Speaker 1 (00:05):
From The Daily Os. I'm Emma Gillespie, I'm Lucy Tassel.
It's Friday, the twenty second of August. Here's what's making
headlines this evening.

Speaker 2 (00:14):
Eric Menendez will remain in prison after a failed parole
bid in the US state of California. Eric and his
brother Lyle were found guilty of murder in nineteen ninety six,
seven years after killing their parents inside their Beverly Hills home.
The case gained renewed interest following the release of last
year's Netflix series Monsters, the Lyle and Eric Menendez Story.

(00:37):
The pair were resentenced to life in prison with the
possibility of parole earlier this year, creating a new path
to freedom. However, officials have now rejected a parole bid
by Eric. Following a ten hour hearing. The board found
the fifty four year old still represents a risk to
public safety and ruled he can reapply for parole in
three years. A parole hearing for his brother, low Yle,

(01:00):
is scheduled to take place over the weekend.

Speaker 1 (01:05):
Ex Liberal staffer Bruce Lehman's defamation appeal has ended early
after federal court judges said they quote struggled to understand
his lawyer's argument. Lehmann launched defamation proceedings against Network ten
and journalist Lisa Wilkinson over a twenty twenty one interview
with Britney Higgins. During the interview, which aired on The Project,

(01:26):
Higgins alleged Lehmann raped her in Parliament House in March
twenty nineteen. She did not name him in the interview,
but Lehmann claimed the broadcast damaged his reputation. Last year,
Federal Court Justice Michael Lee found it was more likely
than not that Lehman had raped Higgins. Lehman was back
in court this week to appeal the decision, but on

(01:46):
the second day of hearings, the court expressed frustration with
his lawyer, Zalie Burrows, who claimed Justice Lee turned the
defamation case into an unfair quote quasi rape trial. The
three judges presiding over the appeal said they were confused
over Burrow's argument and asked her to be more specific
about the grounds of Loman's appeal. The hearings have wrapped

(02:07):
a day earlier than scheduled, and the judge's decision will
be handed down at a later date.

Speaker 2 (02:15):
Ozzie sunscreen brand Ultraviolet has recalled one of its products
after Choice found the sunscreen contained significantly lower SPF than
its advertised fifty plus protection factor. In June, the consumer
group released test results showing popular sunscreens that weren't meeting
their SPF claims. Ultraviolet's Lean Screen product returned an SPF

(02:36):
of four and was the worst scored sunscreen tested by
Choice at the time. Ultraviolet contested the findings. However, the
brand has now released the results of its own independent testing,
which showed Lean Screen returned SPF data ranging between four
and sixty four. A statement from the company said it's
decided to withdraw Lean Screen from the market, effective immediately.

(03:00):
We are deeply sorry that one of our products has
fallen short of the standards we pride ourselves on. Ultraviolet
said purchases of this product will be eligible for a
refund and a product voucher, regardless of where it was purchased.
The statement noted.

Speaker 1 (03:16):
And today's good news, NASA's James Webb Space Telescope has
discovered a new moon orbiting Uranus. The previously unknown object
was spotted by researchers in February. NASA has confirmed expanding
the planet's known satellite family to twenty nine The newly
discovered moon is considered relatively small, at around ten kilometers

(03:37):
in diameter, Astronomers said quote no other planet has as
many small inner moons as Uranus, and their complex interrelationships
hint at a chaotic history. The discovery means Uranus is
likely even more complex a planet than originally thought, according
to researchers. NASA said the James Webb Telescope is providing
a new eye on the outer Solar System to unlock

(03:59):
the mysteries of the cosmos.

Speaker 2 (04:01):
