Speaker 1 (00:05):
From the Daily Odds. I'm Lucy Tassel, I'm Billy fitz Simons.
It's Friday, the twenty eighth of November. Here's what's making
headlines this evening.

Speaker 2 (00:14):
Two men have been arrested over a fatal shooting in
Sydney's West This morning. Police and paramedics responded to reports
of a shooting in Blacktown at eleven fifty am on Friday,
finding a man in his early twenties who had been
shot in the neck, chest and leg. Two men fled
the scene in a car. Pursued by police, the two
crashed the car around the corner and fled again, and

(00:36):
were arrested shortly afterwards. At a press conference this afternoon,
Superintendent Brendan Gorman said police were investigating the possibility that
the shooting was gang related, and that both the two
who had been arrested and the murder victim were all
known to police. Residents have been told to avoid the
area while investigations continue. However, there is no risk to

(00:56):
the public at this time.

Speaker 1 (01:00):
US President Donald Trump has announced one of the two
National Guard members shot near the White House yesterday has died.
Trump made the announcement on a call to US troops
marking the Thanksgiving holiday. National Guards specialist Sarah Beckstrom was
twenty years old. It follows revelations that the alleged shooter

(01:21):
had come to the US because of his involvement in
a CIA program where Afghans worked with American soldiers during
the Afghanistan War. On the call, Trump said, quote, this
atrocity reminds us that we have no greater national security
priority than ensuring that we have full control over the
people that enter and remain in our country. Director of

(01:41):
u S Citizenship and Immigration Services Joseph Edlow said in
a social media post Trump had directed him to review
the green cards or immigration documents of people from countries
quote of concern, such as Afghanistan. Trump has separately called
for the reinvestigation of all Afghan refugees who entered under
President Joe Biden, who was in office when the US

(02:04):
withdrew from Afghanistan and the Taliban retook power.

Speaker 2 (02:10):
Victoria's health regulator has imposed sanctions on monash IVF after
an incident in June where a patient was implanted with
the wrong embryo. The company later blamed human error and
it limitations for the incident. Clinics across the state will
now operate under new conditions that the regulators said were
about ensuring the integrity and traceability of genetic material. While

(02:33):
it didn't name specific conditions, the regulator mentioned more strenuous
consent verification and record systems. In April, monash IVF also
revealed a woman at a Brisbane facility had another patient's
embryo incorrectly implanted in twenty twenty three because of human error.
It meant the woman gave birth to a stranger's baby.

(02:54):
The two bungles sparked an independent review, which has since
been completed, but its full contents undisclosed.

Speaker 1 (03:02):
And today's good news, a new South Wales high school
student has been called a hero after he saved a
ninety two year old woman from a house fire. Thirteen
year old Luke Mullard from the Hunter Valley had stepped
off his school bus when he saw smoke coming from
ninety two year old Roma Wilson's house. Wilson said she
had tried to exit her home when she smelled smoke

(03:22):
about went through a side door, leaving her trapped in
the backyard. Once he knew triple zero had been called,
Mullard went inside the home and guided Wilson through the
smoke and flames out to safety. Mullard went home and
was getting ready for his shift that night at Pizza
Hut when the police asked him to make an official statement.
A detective told his mum he saved someone's life, while

(03:43):
Wilson called him absolutely marvelous.

Speaker 2 (03:46):
That's the latest from the Dallyho's newsroom. If you're looking
for something else to listen to, check out today's deep dive,
where we talk about Barnaby Joyce's decision to leave the Nationals.

Speaker 1 (03:56):
We'll be back tomorrow morning with an episode that is
just good news that sounds like good news to me.
Until then, have a great evening. My name is Lily
Maddon and I'm a proud Arunda Bungelung Kalgadin woman from
