Speaker 1 (00:05):
From the Daily Os. I'm Emma Gillespie, I'm Lucy Tassel.
It's Wednesday, the twenty third of July. Here's what's making
headlines this evening.

Speaker 2 (00:14):
Opposition Leader Susan Lee and Prime Minister Anthony Albanesi have
clashed during the first question time of the new parliament.
Lee directed her first question as Leader of the Coalition
at Albanesi, asking the Prime Minister about what she called
his quote failing housing policies. The government has set a
target of building one point two million homes by twenty

(00:35):
twenty nine, but senior labor officials have admitted the deadline
is ambitious. Lee also grilled the PM over Labour's plans
to tax Australians with more than three million dollars in
their superannuation accounts. Albanesi responded by criticizing the Coalition for
voting against the government's tax cuts during Labour's last term.

(00:56):
The forty eighth Parliament officially commenced on Tuesday. Earlier today,
the government introduced its long awaited hex and childcare reform legislation.

Speaker 1 (01:07):
New South Wales Police have provided an update on a
Sydney jetski crash that killed a fifteen year old boy
and left a fourteen year old with a severed arm.
Emergency services were called to Sylvania in Sydney South on
Tuesday evening after reports two boys writing the same jet
ski were involved in an incident. New South Wales Police
Superintendent Donald Folds said it's understood the jet ski was

(01:30):
owned by one of the boy's families and that investigations
are ongoing to understand what caused the crash. The younger
teen was taken to hospital in a critical condition but
is now stable. Both boys were wearing life jackets, which
Superintendent Folds said likely contributed to the fourteen year old's survival.
Classmates of the older boy gathered near the crash site

(01:52):
today to pay tribute to the teenager.

Speaker 2 (01:57):
Italy's parental leave laws will be expanded to give more
same sex parents access to paid entitlements. The country's Constitutional
Court ruled that non biological mothers in same sex unions
should be entitled to paternity leave because the role is
equal to the role of a father. The landmark decision,
handed down on Monday, means Italy's ten day paternity leave

(02:19):
entitlement will no longer be exclusively available to fathers. The
same court handed down a ruling in May allowing two
women to register as a child's parents on a birth certificate.
Italian politician and LGBTQ plus activist Alessandro Zan welcomed the
ruling and said justice reminds the government of a simple principle.

(02:40):
Love is family and every boy and girl is entitled
to the care and protection of both parents without discrimination.

Speaker 1 (02:49):
And today's good news, and animal shelter in Kerr County,
Texas is working to reunite hundreds of pets with their
owners after flooding devastated the region earlier this month. Kurville
Pets Alive, a not for profit organization, estimates its rescue, adoption, transport,
and vet services have assisted some three hundred and fifty
cats and dogs in just nineteen days. kPa said it

(03:13):
has returned twenty five pets to their families so far,
and his continuing efforts to help reunite pets and owners
as more animals continue to show up. The shelter acknowledged
the vital support of its community, volunteers and veterinary specialists.
