Speaker 1 (00:05):
From The Daily Os. I'm Billy fitz Simons, I'm Lucy Tassel.
It's Friday, the tenth of October. Here is what is
making headlines this evening.

Speaker 2 (00:15):
The Israeli government has approved the first phase of a
ceasefire agreement with Hamas. The deal will involve the release
of all remaining hostages and the withdrawal of Israeli troops
from Gaza, to a quote agreed uponline. Meanwhile, Australia's Foreign
Minister Penny Wong has said she is open to the
idea of US President Donald Trump receiving the Nobel Peace Prize.

(00:36):
Speaking to Sky News on Friday, Wang said, quote, Obviously
it's a matter for the committee, but this has been
the greatest contribution to peace in the Middle East for
a generation or more. The peace deal agreed by Israel
and Hamas was proposed by Trump. The twenty twenty five
Nobel Peace Prize will be announced around eight pm Australian
Eastern daylight time tonight. Trump is confirmed to be eligible

(00:57):
for the twenty twenty six prize after he was nominated
in July by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netnyahoo.

Speaker 1 (01:05):
Former Defense Force employee David McBride has lost his last
attempt to appeal his conviction for disclosing sensitive information after
the High Court refused to hear the case. McBride is
currently serving a sentence of five years and eight months
in prison. About two years ago, McBride pleaded guilty to
unlawfully sharing classified Defense force material with the ABC, including

(01:27):
allegations that Australian soldiers committed war crimes in Afghanistan. McBride
has always maintained his actions were in the public interest.
The first step in a High Court appeal is applying
for something called leave to appeal, which means the judges
decide whether or not they will consider your case. McBride's
case has failed at that stage. High Court rulings cannot

(01:48):
be appealed and its decisions are binding.

Speaker 2 (01:52):
A magnitude seven point four earthquake has struck in the
ocean off the Mindanao region of the Philippines, sparking tsunami warnings.
President Bongbong Marcos said authorities are assessing the situation on
the ground and are coordinating with local governments to carry
out evacuations in coastal areas. Local residents have been told
to quote move to higher ground and stay away from

(02:13):
the shore until authorities declare its safe. President Marcos added,
we are working around the clock to ensure that help
reaches everyone who needs it.

Speaker 1 (02:24):
In today's good news, research has found that singing could
improve quality of life and reduce some symptoms for people
living with lung disease. The study, presented at the European
Respiratory Society, had patients participate in a one point five
hour online singing group once a week for three months.
In total, there were one hundred and one participants, with

(02:44):
half participating in singing and the other half being provided
with traditional care like inhaler therapy. When given a questionnaire
measuring quality of life, the singing group had over seven
points higher compared to the control group. The trial was
led by Professor Natashes from Monash University, who said the
results could be quote due to better control of breathing,

(03:05):
social connections or mood improvements.

Speaker 2 (03:07):
