Headlines: Sydney hospital fails to address safety concerns

An audit of a Sydney hospital has found it “failed” to address significant safety concerns.

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS), the U.S. tax service, is considering whether to revoke Harvard University's tax-exempt status, according to U.S. media reports.

Australia’s unemployment rate increased slightly from 4 to 4.1% in March, according to new data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics.

And today’s good news: Scientists have captured footage of a colossal squid in its natural habitat for the first time.

It's Thursday, the seventeenth of April. Here's what's making headlines
this evening.

An audit of a Sydney hospital has found it failed
to address significant safety concerns. Northern Beaches Hospital is operated
by a private operator, Hellscope, in a public private partnership
with the New South Wales government. The audit was commissioned
in response to the death of a two year old
boy who waited nearly three hours for emergency care. The

(00:35):
report made three recommendations for the New South Wales government
that included reconsidering the public private model at the hospital
and resolving safety and quality issues by December this year.
The New South Wales government has said that it accepts
and will implement all of the recommendations.

The Internal Revenue Service or the IRS, which is the
US tax serve, is considering whether or not to revoke
Harvard University's tax exempt status. That's according to US media reports.
This follows, as we described in the podcast This Morning,
US President Donald Trump's decision to cancel two point two
billion dollars in federal grants to the university after it

declined to comply with a list of demands concerning its
staff and student policies. Under US law, universities typically qualify
for tax exempt status because they are considered educational institutions
that serve the public good. Earlier this week, however, Trump
posted to truth Social questioning whether the school's tax status
should be changed. He posted, perhaps Harvard should be taxed

as a political entity if it keeps pushing political ideological
and terrorist inspired supporting sickness.

Australia's unemployment rate increased slightly from four to four point
one percent in March, according to new data from the
Australian Bureau of Statistics. The unemployment rate measures aventage of
people who were looking for work but couldn't find any.
The number of unemployed people in Australia increased by three
thousand people in March. That's also according to the abs underemployment,

which measures the percentage of people who could not find
as much work as they wanted, remained at five point
nine percent.

And today's good news, Scientists have captured footage of a
colossal squid in its natural habitat for the first time.
Led by the University of Essex, the footage was recorded
last month during an expedition to find new marine species
in the South Atlantic. The squid was discovered on camera
exactly one hundred years after it was first identified and named.

Experts believe that it can grow up to seven meters
in length and also weigh up to five hundred kilograms.
This makes them the heaviest spineless animal on earth.
