Speaker 1 (00:05):
From The Daily OZS. I'm Sam Kazlowski, I'm Lucy Tassel.
It's Tuesday, the seventeenth of June. Here's what's making headlines
this evening.

Speaker 2 (00:14):
US President Donald Trump has left the G seven summit early,
canceling plans to meet with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanzi.
White House Press Secretary Caroline Leavitt announced he would leave
the high level meeting in Canada earlier today, citing concerns
about the growing conflict between Israel and Iran. Israel carried
out a wave of strikes on Iran on Friday, which

(00:36):
it said was in response to Iran making progress towards
a nuclear bomb. The two nations have since exchanged missile fire,
killing two hundred and twenty four people in Iran, including
military officials and civilians, and twenty four people in Israel,
all identified as civilians. A spokesperson for Prime Minister Albanzi
said he understood why Trump was leaving, and said the

(00:57):
government is quote very concerned about the conflict. In response,
Opposition leader Susan Lee said Trump's departure was quote understandable,
but to the detriment of Australia. She urged the PM
to be more proactive in securing a meeting, noting concerns
about Tariff's and the Orcus Agreement, which the US Department
of Defense is reviewing.

Speaker 1 (01:20):
Police have confirmed human remains found in Queensland Bushland belonged
to Phoebe Bishop, a seventeen year old who was declared
missing last month. Bishop's housemates, thirty four year old James
Wood and thirty three year old Tanika Bromley, had previously
been arrested and charged with her murder. Earlier this month,
police found human remains in the National Park near the

(01:40):
town of Jinjin, where the group lived. Police have now
confirmed these to be Phoebe's body. Phoebe first went missing
in late May after failing to check into a flight
from Bunderberg. Police said their investigations into her alleged murder
are continuing, with Wood and Bromley due back in court
in August.

Speaker 2 (02:01):
A doctor who supplied friend's actor Matthew Perry with ketamine
is set to plead guilty to drug charges over his death.
Perry died of an overdose in a hot tub at
his home in October twenty twenty three, aged fifty four.
He had been prescribed ketymine to treat depression, but was
taking more than he was prescribed in the days leading
up to his death. Following an autopsy, medical examiners ruled

(02:24):
Perry accidentally died due to quote acute effects of ketamine,
finding he had as much ketamine in his body as
an anesthetist would use to put someone under for surgery.
US authorities allege a group of people in Perry's life,
including the doctor and his assistant, worked to supply him
with ketamine to profit from his addiction. Four other members

(02:45):
of the group have pleaded guilty to a range of
offenses over the death.

Speaker 1 (02:52):
And some good news for your Tuesday afternoon, More regions
of the ocean will receive special protection following commitments made
at a UN Ocean conference last week. Spain has announced
five new marine protection areas, while France pledged to protect
five million square kilometers around its specific territory, French Polynesia,
that creates the largest marine protected area in the world. Overall,

(03:15):
the European Commission announced it'll invest one billion euros in
ocean conservation efforts now. In terms of Australia's part, it
and ninety six other countries have committed to ramping up
efforts to limit plastic pollution in the ocean, with Environment
Minister Murray Watt saying there isn't a moment to lose.

Speaker 2 (03:34):
