Here's what's making headlines this evening.

Australia's corruption watchdog has found a senior Home Affairs official
engaged in serious corrupt conduct when she helped her sister's
fiance secure a job in the department. The National Anti
Corruption Commission, also known as the NAC, found the official
had leaked the job panel interview questions, forged a signature
to fast track the candidate's application, and didn't disclose their relationship.

(00:36):
The executive has since stepped down from her role, but
the NAC said it would have recommended that Home Affairs
dismiss her, saying the public service needs to shield itself
from nepotism and undeclared conflicts of interest. It is the
first investigation completed by the NAC since it was first
set up in June twenty twenty three.

Large parts of New South Wales are being told to
brace for damaging winds, heavy rain and potential flooding, with
a rain bomb predicted to hit the state tomorrow. The
Bureau of Meteorology has warned a quote vigorous low pressure
system is developing off the New South Wales coast, with
severe conditions expected from tomorrow. Bomb meteorologist Angus Hines said

very strong wind gusts of up to one hundred kilometers
an hour are expected across most of eastern New South
Wales in an area stretching from the Illawarra to Lismore.
New South Wales Coastal communities are being warned of potential
power outages, difficult driving conditions and large swells. Parts of
the South Coast region and Sydney could see in excess

Two firefighters have been shot dead in the US state
of Idaho after what police suspect was a planned ambush.
A fire crew was responding to an emergency call in
Canfield Mountain near the Washington Idaho border when they were
showing by a lone sniper. Authorities said two firefighters were
killed and another was seriously injured in a shootout lasting

several hours. Police located the body of a man believed
to be the shooter on the mountain on Sunday night
local time Local Sheriff Bob Norris told reporters investigators quote
believe that the suspects started the fire, and we do
believe that it was an ambush and it was intentional.
State Governor Brad Little called those killed in the incident heroic,

adding quote, this is a heinous direct assault on our
brave firefighters.

And in today's good news. Wimbledon will get underway this
evening with the highest number of Aussies in the draw
since nineteen ninety five. Wimbledon is the third of four
tennis Grand Slams for the year. On the men's side,
there will be ten Australians in action, with alex Demonor
as the eleventh seed and Alexipopperin as the twenty second.

In the women's singles, there will be seven Australians competing.
It'll be the first first year Daria casset Kina, the
sixteenth seed in the women's singles, will be representing Australia
at Wimbledon after becoming a permanent resident in April.
