Speaker 1 (00:01):
Welcome to the Daily Blade.
The Word of God is described asthe sword of the Spirit, the
primary spiritual weapon in theChristian's armor against the
forces of evil.
Your hosts are Joby Martin andKyle Thompson, and they stand
ready to equip men for the fight.
Let's sharpen up.

Speaker 2 (00:20):
All right, welcome to day four in this interaction
between Jesus and the woman atthe well.
So at this point Jesus meetswith this woman, breaking
through religious boundaries andsocietal boundaries, and then
he digs into where she really is.
That her whole life is picturedat this well.

(00:40):
That the reason she's coming atnoon is because she's made a
train wreck of her life.
She's on her sixth man.
She's had five husbands.
The guy she's living with nowis not her husband, so she's
ashamed.
She comes in the middle of theday.
Jesus does not wait for her toget her act together, but he
pursues her and a little simpleprayer ain't going to be enough.
He digs into the deepest, darkest places of her life and

(01:03):
she has freedom, she has healing, she has the peace of Christ
sitting next to her, making thegreatest offer of all time Put
your faith in me and you will befully and finally satisfied
with a wellspring of life on theinside of you that leads to
eternal life.
And then what she is going todo and this happens all the time

(01:25):
is that she is going to dodgethe invitation with some kind of
theological jujitsu here.
Here's how this goes.
This is a total deflection.
Verse 20, the woman is speaking.
Our fathers worshiped on thismountain, but you say that in
Jerusalem is the place wherepeople ought to worship.
And Jesus said to her womanbelieve me, the hour is coming

(01:52):
when neither on this mountainnor in Jerusalem will you
worship the Father.
You worship what you do notknow.
We worship what we know, forsalvation is from the Jews.
But the hour is coming, and isnow here, when true worshipers
will worship the Father inspirit and truth.
This is not an either or thatwe are supposed to worship God
truly.
This is why doctrine matters.

(02:12):
You can't rightly love Godwithout right thoughts about God
.
But we're also supposed toworship him in spirit, with all
of our heart and all of our souland all of our mind and all of
our body.
Four the father is seeking suchpeople to worship him, thank
God.
God is not looking for aparticular style of worship.
He is looking for the saints toworship him.

(02:34):
Verse 24, god is spirit andthose who worship him must
worship him in spirit and truth.
And the woman said to him Iknow that Messiah is coming, he
who is called Christ, and whenhe comes he will teach us all
things.
And Jesus said to him.
I know that Messiah is coming,he who is called Christ, and
when he comes he will teach usall things.
And Jesus said to her I whospeak to you, am he Now?
Anybody that ever claims thatJesus never claims to be God in

(02:55):
the Bible has never read theBible.
So Jesus, right here in chapterfour, verse 26 of the gospel of
John, claims divinity.
Right here he says I who speakto you am the Messiah, I am the
Christ, I am the fulfillment ofthe Old Testament.
All right, but here's what Iwant to talk about.
Jesus is talking to her aboutthe most important thing in all
of eternity her sin and hersalvation.

(03:17):
But what she wants to do?
The moment she finds her placeherself in an uncomfortable
place, she wants to deflect andshe goes.
Oh, I got theological questions.
Our forefathers say we worshipon this mountain, but your
forefathers say it's about thatmountain.
And then, when Jesus gets tothe heart of worship, she goes.
Well, one day, you know, wedon't know now, but one day
somebody will tell us.

(03:37):
Okay, oftentimes what begins tohappen when people are
confronted with the spirit ofGod and they begin to realize
their way isn't working.
And the spirit of God does thatdeep dive into their heart like
Jesus just did, then they know, people know this woman knows if
I actually follow this God thatI'm talking to here at the well

(03:58):
then something's got to change.
At least my sex life has tochange.
My marriage situation is goingto change, and so people will
often dodge with theology whenthey don't want to deal with
personally surrendering.
One time I was on an airplaneactually a million times I was
on an airplane.
But at this particular timethis younger girl comes and sits
next to me.
I had a layover in Amsterdam.

(04:20):
I always travel with somepeople, but this girl sitting
next to me, from Amsterdam.
She sits down, I have a Bibleout.
She looks at me and says do youactually believe that?
And so I go.
Of course I do.
And I began to share the gospelwith her.
And this girl had never seen aBible.
She was doing some shady stuffin Amsterdam and she began I'm
telling you, the spirit of Godbegan to woo this girl.
I began to tell her about howmuch God loves her, no matter

(04:43):
what she's done.
And those things weren'tworking.
And she knew deep down in hersoul she was more than just a
physical body, but she was aspiritual being and something
was wrong and you could tell shewas being drawn and drawn and
drawn.
The tears began to well up andthen she pulled the woman at the
well move.
She just begins to ask metheological questions and

(05:03):
they're nothing but distractions.
She throws it up hey well, whydoes God hate gay people?
And what about the dinosaurs?
I mean, how do you explain thedinosaurs if God created
everything?
And what about a man on anisland that's never heard about
Jesus before?
Okay, these are legitimatequestions.
God doesn't hate gay people.
There's an answer aboutdinosaurs and there's also an

(05:25):
answer see Romans 9 and 10,about the guy on the island.
But in that moment I looked atthe girl and says are you gay?
She says no, okay.
Are you a paleontologist?
She says I am not.
Are you a sociologist?
No, I am not.
Then why don't we deal with youand God in this moment?
This is what Jesus is doingwith this woman.

(05:46):
Jesus says the Messiah, theChrist, the answer to everything
that you were looking for issitting right in front of you.
Don't ever let somebody dodge agospel conversation with some
sort of theological distraction.
You just get to the heart of it.
Who is Jesus to you?
Amen.
