Speaker 2 (00:20):
All right, guys, the end of another week All week.
This week we've looked at fiveof my favorite hymns of all time
and we've dug into the lyricsand the biblical truths therein.
Today we're looking at the mostfamous hymn of all time and I
really think it's a debate andthat's Amazing Grace.
So this is, in fact, the hymnboth of my sons love the most.
So thank you, veggietales.
We've actually heard ouryoungest Eli we just call him

(00:42):
Squish.
He will sing this hymn at nightwhen he's supposed to be
sleeping.
All of a sudden we'll just besitting there and then we'll
hear on the monitor him singingthe lyrics to Amazing Grace.
So this hymn was actuallywritten in 1772 by John Newton.
So Newton was actually a slaveship captain who actually became
a Christian after a violentstorm at sea in 1748.
So after his conversion hebecame a minister and then one

(01:08):
of the leading voices in theabolitionist movement there in
England.
So just an awesome story.
And my favorite version of thishymn and it's so good, it's so
good it's from Leanne Rimes backin 1997 on her album you Light
Up my Life inspirational songs.
So I just think it's sofantastic.
But let's go to the lyrics here.
Amazing grace, how sweet thesound that saved a wretch like
me.
I once was lost, but now amfound, was blind, but now I see.

(01:32):
T'was grace that taught myheart to fear, and grace my
fears relieved.
How precious did that graceappear the hour I first believed
.
Through many dangers, toils andsnares, I have already come.
T'was grace hath brought mesafe thus far, and grace will
lead me home.
The Lord has promised good tome.
His word my hope secures.

(01:53):
He will my shield and portionbe as long as life endures Ye,
when this flesh and heart shallfail and mortal life shall cease
, I shall possess within theveil a life of joy and All right
.
So let's dig in.
Here's a lyric Amazing grace, how sweet the sound that saved a

(02:19):
wretch like me.
So, first of all, we aretotally depraved.
You know breaking news if youdidn't know that.
But God right.
So let's go to Romans 5, verse4 and 5.
But God, who is rich, in mercyfor his great love, wherewith he
loved us even when we were deadin sins, hath quickened us
together with Christ.
By grace, ye are saved.

(02:40):
Another lyric I once was lost, but now am found, was blind, but
now I see.
So, guys, we can be regenerated.
Here's the words of Jesus asrecorded in Luke 15, 32.
It was meet that we should makemerry and be glad for this.
Thy brother was dead and isalive again and was lost and is
found.
Another lyric through manydangers, toils and snares, I

(03:02):
have already come.
So, guys, we can legitimatelyhave perseverance in the faith.
Psalm 23, verse 4, ye thoughthrough I walk, through the
valley of the shadow of death, Iwill fear no evil, for thou art
with me.
Thy rod and thy staff, theycomfort me.
And then the last lyric herewhen we've been there 10,000
years, bright, shining as thesun, we've no less days to sing

(03:24):
God's praise than when we'dfirst begun.
So, guys, the reality is is,amazingly, we can have eternal
life.
1 Timothy 6, 19, laying up instore for themselves a good
foundation against the time tocome that they may lay hold of
eternal life.
The thing about the grace ofGod that is, it's just that it

(03:46):
is truly amazing, right, andthat he would love us, us black
hearted, wretched sinners, enough to send his only son here
to provide propitiation for oursin debt through his death.
Right, I mean, it's wortheverything, everything.
So if you have not acceptedGod's free gift of grace, yet I

(04:06):
compel you to do so today.
Thank you for your attentionthis week.
Stay sharp.
