God reveals seven attributes of His character in Exodus 34:6-7, providing a powerful description of divine nature through His own words to Moses. We explore four of these attributes: God's compassion, graciousness, patience (slowness to anger), and His unfailing loving kindness (chesed).

• God describes Himself as "slow to anger" – demonstrating incredible patience with humanity
• The Hebrew word "chesed" means loyal love or "stubborn love" that persists despite obstacles
• God's patience gives us multiple chances and serves as a model for our relationships
• Romans 2:4 reveals that God's patience and kindness are designed to lead us to repentance
• The Psalms repeatedly celebrate God's loving kindness that "never ceases" and is "everlasting"
• God's loving kindness is particularly remarkable when we consider how difficult some people are to love
• This divine patience should influence how we parent, lead, and build relationships

Speaker 1 (00:01):
Welcome to the Daily Blade.
The Word of God is described asthe sword of the Spirit, the
primary spiritual weapon in theChristian's armor against the
forces of evil.
Your hosts are Joby Martin andKyle Thompson, and they stand
ready to equip men for the fight.
Let's sharpen up.

Speaker 2 (00:21):
Alright, guys, this week we're looking at Exodus 34,
verses 6 and 7, where Goddescribes his attributes.
So let's go ahead and readExodus 34, 6 and 7 in the New
American Standard Bible 1995edition.
Then the Lord passed in frontof him this is Moses and
proclaimed the Lord.
The Lord, god compassionate andgracious, slow to anger and
abounding in loving kindness andtruth, who keeps loving

(00:43):
kindness for thousands, whoforgives iniquity, transgression
.
So in these two verses Goddescribes seven distinct
attributes of himself.
Yesterday we discussed two ofthe attributes, that's God is
compassionate and God isgracious.
Today we're going to theattributes, that's God is

(01:04):
compassionate and God isgracious.
Today we're going to focus onthe next two God is slow to
anger and God's loving kindness.
So I'm going to go ahead andthrow myself under the bus here
with this one with the slow toanger thing, okay, so if there
was like a drone, that was likefollowing me around, like doing
like a live stream of me atdifferent points in my life,
even though I've matured andcome a long way in my

(01:25):
sanctification process, I'm kindof the furthest thing from slow
to anger.
I more so have like Formula Oneanger or, like you know, drag
racer anger.
It's just one of those thingswhere something small, even
something big, will happen, buta lot of times something small,
and I will just shoot throughthe roof.
Now, used to, I would stay upin the stars, like in all my
anger, but now I kind of comeback down to earth pretty

(01:51):
quickly.
But this is just not somethingthat's easy for me.
And other ways to say this interms of the context of this
verse is that God is patient, okay.
God is long suffering, okay.
So think about how long hewaits for all of us right, us
dumb sheep to get our craptogether.
Okay, and just think about allthe patience he's showing the
Israelites throughout the entirebook of Exodus.
I mean, it's a tremendousamount of long-suffering
patients and he just gives uschance after chance after chance

(02:12):
.
And this is actually convictingfor me as a father of young
boys, because if they don't dothe thing I want, boom like
immediately.
Sometimes our reaction can beoverly harsh and I have to
remember wait, god was patientwith me.
I owe them patience.
They're developing.
They don't understand.
I just need to give them asecond right.
And what is the point of Godbeing slow to anger?

(02:34):
It's because he wants us torepent, guys.
So let's go to Romans 2.4.
Or do you think lightly of theriches of his kindness and
tolerance and patience, notknowing that the kindness of God
leads you to repentance?
So think about that.
But also let's talk about God'sloving kindness.
So my pastor, dr Mark Hitchcockof Faith Bible Church in Edmond
, oklahoma, taught me that theword used here is the Hebrew
word chesed, which can meanloyal love, and he even came

(02:56):
across a definition of stubbornlove.
Okay, so again go back to Exodus34, verse six.
God is abounding in this loyaland stubborn love.
And just think about the peoplethat are in your life and some
of you have a bunch of thesepeople.
They're just really hard tolove that.
They don't give you a whole lotof opportunities to love them,
right.
So maybe they keep making thesame mistakes.
Maybe they've stolen from you, maybe they've lied to you, maybe

(03:18):
they cheated on you, maybe theyjust looked at you like you
were a target.
And just think about how hardit is to love those people Like
it's really difficult.
And God loves us in a way thatis infinitely more love and more
patient than any person thatyou've ever met, that any of us
have ever met right.
And look at what the writer ofthe book of Lamentations says in

(03:39):
chapter three, verses 22 and 23.
The Lord's loving kindnessindeed never cease, for his
compassions never fail.
They are new every morning.
Great is your faithfulness.
And, guys, the Psalms are justreplete with more examples of
God's loving kindness.
Psalm 136, verse 1, give thanksto the Lord, for he is good, for
his loving kindness iseverlasting.

(03:59):
Psalm 36, 7, how precious isyour loving kindness, o God, and
the children of men take refugein the shadow of your wings.
Psalm 100, verse 5.
For the Lord is good, hisloving kindness is everlasting
and his faithfulness to allgenerations.
Psalm 89, verses 1 and 2.
I will sing of the lovingkindness of the Lord forever To
all generations.
I will make known yourfaithfulness with my mouth, for

(04:21):
I have said, loving kindnesswill be built up forever In the
heavens.
You will establish yourfaithfulness.
Let's keep going.
Psalm 143, verse 8.
Let me hear your lovingkindness in the morning, for I
trust in you.
Teach me the way in which Ishould walk, for to you I lift
up my soul and we'll do one more.
Psalm 107, verse 1.
Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his loving

(04:45):
kindness is everlasting.
Guys, if you want to know theattributes of God, let's take
him at his word.
God is slow to anger and God isfull of loving kindness.
Keep that in mind today.
Come back here tomorrow formore.
