בכל מעמד ומצב, בגשמיות ו/או ברוחניות, יכול כל יהודי להתנהג באופן של חיות בעצמו ו"להחיות" את הסביבה, ומתוך שמחה! למרות הענינים הבלתי-רצויים שרואה אצל אחרים. כי אף שבנוגע להתנהגות בלתי-רצוי' שלו אינו יכול לטעות, אם רק עושה חשבון-צדק וכו', אבל בנוגע לאחרים הרי "אין אדם יודע מה שבלבו של חבירו", ושייך שמה שנראה לו בזולת התנהגות כבלתי-רצוי' ה"ז מפני שלא יודע מה הלה חשב בשעת מעשה, ואולי היתה לו מחשבה כזו שמבטלת את חומר המעשה (והרי רק לדיין "אין [לו] אלא מה שעיניו רואות" ועליו לפסוק את הדין ולהעניש וכו' עפ"י מה שעיניו רואות). ומכיון שהדבר בספק – הרי מוטל עליו החיוב (מדרבנן עכ"פ) "הוי דן את כל האדם לכף זכות". ובמילא ברור שלמרות התנהגות הזולת עליו להיות בשמחה גדולה. ובדאי שכן צ"ל אם גישה זו תגרום לו לעזור לזולת, מתחיל מטובה בגשמיות.

Synopsis

No matter one’s physical or spiritual state, every Jew has the ability conduct himself in an enlivened manner and to bring vitality to his surroundings, and to do it with joy. This applies even when one sees undesirable conduct in those around him, because, while one can make no mistake regarding his own failings (provided that he makes an honest accounting etc.), when it comes to someone else, “A person does not know what is in his fellow’s heart.” Thus, even when he sees undesirable conduct in another Jew, he doesn’t know what that Jew is thinking in the moment, and perhaps his thought nullified the severity of the deed. (It is only a judge who “has only what his eyes see,” and who must render judgment and administer punishment etc. according to what his eyes see.) And since there is doubt as to the other Jew’s deed, one is obligated to “judge every person favorably.” Accordingly, it is clear that despite the other Jew’s conduct, one must be in a state of great joy, and this is certainly the case when such an approach will lead him to help the other person, beginning with helping him physically.
