The bitches lined in the right on marsh.
Speaker 1 (01:00):
He makes the sliding cats and that's the ballgame. And
that's a three game sweep for the Phillies over the
Toronto Blue Jay, says the Phillies, And.
Speaker 3 (01:09):
That was the wrong cut.
Speaker 2 (01:11):
Sorry about that, off and running here, you dummy, Sorry
about that. No, that is not it. Yeah, yeah, last
night's score. Sorry about that.
Speaker 1 (01:25):
Here we go, one ball, two strikes, the pitch swung

Castiandos to the track near the wall, jumps, makes the catch,
begs into the wall and he hangs on and Nick
Castianos makes the cats at the fence and the Phillies

Al right.
Speaker 2 (01:43):
First thing for other kids listening out there, delete what
you don't need in your folder. Just get rid of it.
Don't eat because stuff like that happens. Sam Ostrie from
The Score joining me today. You gotta delete the old
files because you just never know. Always delete them, always
leading rid of them. You never know you're gonna play
something from a three game sweep that was, you know,
(02:05):
a couple of days ago.
Speaker 3 (02:06):
Let's put it that way.
Speaker 2 (02:07):
Hello everybody, another edition to the Daily Ticket coming your way.
I believe today is Thursday. All these days are running
together for the past couple of weeks. Don't ask me why.
It could be the fact that I'm getting about three
hours of sleep daily, nightly whatever.
Speaker 3 (02:20):
But that's all right. Well, nobody's complaining here.
Speaker 2 (02:22):
Ready to roll. We got a lot to discuss. NBA
Finals Game six, Sam Oustree. Right now, I'm gonna ask
you point blank. I don't need you just sell me
this pin. I don't need a winning wager. I just
want to know, simply. Are we going back to Oklahoma
City for Game seven?
Speaker 3 (02:40):
Nope? Yeah, it ends tonight. I'm with you. It ends tonight.
And it's such a great start to a series. Kind
of feels like an anti climactic end, which I think
also happened in the real Stanley Cup two. Why do
you say that because Tyre's Aliburn's injury status, that's it
and it seems like whole play. But at what level
is gonna be at without a fully healthy Tyres Aliburn?
Guyho has already been did by that Thunder defense. Oh,
(03:01):
if he's not fully healthy, if he's not getting into
the lane and driving the ball, well, this pace of
offense can't function. And we've kind of have seen the
Thunder figure them out a little bit over the last
game and a quarter. I would say, going back to
I guess it was Game four, that fourth quarter when
the Thunder had a great comeback and completely shut down
the Pacers offense. Since then, it's kind of been the
(03:22):
Thunder from there, and I think that this one ends early. Yeah,
we have some great sound from Rick Carla.
Speaker 2 (03:27):
Of course that's dated from the standpoint of last night,
yesterday into this morning, and in fact is the recent
report according to Shams that Tyrese Halibert will give it
a go. I would assume that, Yeah, if he's going
to miss like anything other than you have to chop
off his leg, he's going to play an NBA Finals
Game six, right.
Speaker 3 (03:46):
But that could hurt them. So it's like he's going
to give it a go. But we've seen injuries like
this happen before with Ojan Andobi come back from a
hamstring injury, and that was probably more severe. But he
couldn't even give it a go. In Game seven last
year in the second round against the Pacers, he was
completely hampered out there. And the Thunder already liked to
target Tyrius Aliburn because he's like a below average, not
an awful defender, but he's a below average defender. But
(04:08):
he has this calf injury. They're gonna be targeting him
time and time again, and the Pacers may make the
decision at some point we're better off without you. But
we'll see how he was moving out there.
Speaker 2 (04:16):
Yeah, capstrains are tough, and I think he said yesterday
if I'm not mistaken, that if it was regular season,
he probably missed two.
Speaker 3 (04:24):
Calf strains, aren't. You don't mess around with capstrains because
a lot of times those lead to achilles. You saw
Kevin Durant when he tore his achilles in that finals
against the Raptors. He was coming back from a calf
strain injury that missed that he was forced to miss
a ton of time in the playoffs, so you don't
mess around with with calf injuries. But maybe it's not
that severe for Tyres Saliburn where they're comfortable giving it
a go. But hopefully nothing worse occurs tonight. But I
(04:47):
just don't think he's able to move at the level
that the Pacers need him to move.
Speaker 2 (04:51):
All right, Well, we do have the points spread in
front of us, courtesy of the folks over at Drafting
Sports Book, and that is Oklahoma City minus six.
Speaker 3 (04:58):
So then let's get into that conversation.
Speaker 2 (05:00):
I am under the impression that this is going to
be in Oklahoma City victory, and therefore.
Speaker 3 (05:07):
I would take okay See to go on the road
and cover the number here.
Speaker 2 (05:10):
But again, this is a team that has battle tested
demonic is what I've been saying about them. You know,
no Haliburn out there is a big deal. But he's
had moments, he's had games, stretches specifically, but definitely a
game if I'm not mistaken where he was held to
you know, not to say he's not existent, but the
box score is relatively small. So at the end of
(05:31):
the day, if you replace him with whether it's a
TJ McConnell plus other minutes. Will the Indiana Pacers have
enough to keep it close? Could they potentially pull out
of home victory with the place rocket? You got McAfee
there getting everybody ready to go.
Speaker 3 (05:47):
It's the NBA Finals, Sam it is and they have
They're so deep, which is part of their strength and
why they're where they are right now, because they even
when their second unit comes in, it's not that big
of a drop off. But number one, you need to
have more from Pascal Siakam. He has not been producing
at the level he did last series. And TJ McConnell's
great in stretches. I mean, he's been incredible. It seems
(06:08):
like no one knows what to do with him. He's
so small, but he still is able to create his
own shot with pushoffs, with fakes, with spin moves, with
his great footwork. He shouldn't be able to shoot over
some of the guys he's shooting over, but he does.
But he gives you sparks and bursts and great shifts.
He's not a guy that you're gonna rely on for
thirty plus minutes in any game. And if that's what
the Pacers have to go to their in trouble. So
(06:29):
like all the Thunders wins they've covered in these finals,
when they win, the usually can pull away late. Even
though don't think this Pacers team is gonna go down easy.
If anything, we've seen from this entire playoffs, all four series,
this even last game with when tyres Aaliburns hampered Pacers
made a late run, all of these games have been
the Pacers do not give up. They will not give in.
So I don't think it's gonna be a blow up
(06:49):
in a stretch, but I think the Thunders still cover
the numbers. All right, We got Julie Nelough.
Speaker 2 (06:53):
He'll be joining the party coming up at three thirty
from DraftKings Sports Book.
Speaker 3 (06:57):
A lot to discuss.
Speaker 2 (06:58):
We're gonna get into a little bit of Ace Bailey
seventy six ers talking just a second, but staying with
the NBA Finals tonight front and center. Sorry, Caitlyn Clark
won't have a screen in my house. Am I the
only one America that doesn't think, well, well, I watched
through Twitter For being honest.
Speaker 3 (07:12):
I mean, I'll turn on a Kaitlin Clark game if
there's nothing else on, But I only really watched through Twitter,
but I'm intrigued by her. I mean, did you see
her comeback when she came back from that injury last weekend.
She had a great game. But not only that, she
had nine points and thirty eight seconds like that was
that was fun to watch. Okay, even if you love her, Hey,
Kaitlyn Clark, her pulling up to half court and just
drilling threes back to back to back. That's fun. It's
(07:35):
fun basketball. Even if you're sick of the Kaitlin Clark discourse,
which I sure end. Yeah, it's just, you know, the
conversations arounding. It's just it's too much. It's too much.
And r Mark Henry Junior has it all muted. Yeah,
I love it. He's just out on all things WNBA.
When it's Angel res verse Kaitlin Clark, that's when the
conversation just becomes brillad.
Speaker 2 (07:55):
It's so stupid because that's like, you know, people don't
need to be comparing the too. Yeah, there was a
little bit of a rivalry there in college that's not
existing right now, and I mean they're not even on
the same stratospyre of players. But I do like the
fact that Angel Reese did trademark me bounds.
Speaker 3 (08:10):
I love that she's good at that using her brand.
Turn Lord, that is so good. All right.
Speaker 2 (08:17):
So Sam Austry represents the folks over at the Score
and he does a great job over there. He's got
a bunch of posts up. And yesterday I'm sitting in
my driveway. I got my baby boy in.
Speaker 3 (08:27):
My in my my arm, enjoying the warm weather.
Speaker 2 (08:30):
It wasn't too hot where I was like sweating, dripping
like it is right now, but you know, I wanted
to be outside get the fresh air. He's a little
fidgety man. He won't He's a little fidgety nugget. Yeah,
he won't go down.
Speaker 3 (08:42):
You know, he's like a bit of him sneezing the
other day.
Speaker 2 (08:44):
Yeah, he's got to move if like I literally put
him to sleep in the driveway by dancing with him.
There was a you know, a little great in the
drive No, No, like he's in the you know, this
little carrier type. There's a little lot of bed was
in the drive Not yet we still get along. No,
you know he's in this little lounger and next thing
(09:06):
and I pull him up. You know, he wants to
fall out, but he won't like he won't fall Excuse me,
won't you know?
Speaker 3 (09:11):
He wants to fall asleep, but he won't. So I'm
over there dancing the next thing.
Speaker 2 (09:14):
He's snoozing anyway, So I get an opportunity to grab
my phone. I got a cold beer in my hand.
Nice job by the folks over at what the hell
is the the the brewery? Why am I drawing a
blank over there? No man, these guys over there in Delaware.
I'm such an idiot right now that I can't remember
the folks that are Dogfish. I apologize for not remembering
(09:36):
that off the top of my head, but I got
a lot calling out right now. So I'm enjoying a
nice hazy ip, a great beer from from Dogfish. And
then all of a sudden, I'm scanning, skimming through the timeline,
and I see sam Ostri put a tweet out, and
sam Ostri makes the case on a tweet that this
MVP ward is not over.
Speaker 3 (09:59):
It's not a given that it's going to SGA. Now.
Speaker 2 (10:03):
You know, normally i'll fire as week, normally I'll respond,
but I didn't even want to go and do this
on the timeline.
Speaker 3 (10:12):
I got a text instead.
Speaker 2 (10:13):
I texted Sam and go, dude, I love you, but
are you out of your mind? Like, there's no way
that this award is not going to SGA. And if
you missed it two days ago, I was very passionate
about it.
Speaker 3 (10:26):
I know.
Speaker 2 (10:26):
Jalen Williams is the talk. He went for forty. He's
a great player. He is Robin to Batman. Let's not like,
you know, mistake it. SGA is averaging thirty plus throughout
the course of the NBA Finals. He is the best
player on the floor. Jalen Williams is great at forty.
Speaker 3 (10:43):
I get it. But the people out there that are like,
look at the numbers.
Speaker 2 (10:47):
He was nine to one, now he's seventy one, and
now he's six to one, which is hysterical. It's like,
all right, So I text Sam and I'm like, dude,
it's not going to happen. And then Sam simply put
to read the article and you had some gyms, dude,
And I'll tell you what the one about the Boston
(11:08):
Celtics from last year. You know, I'll say it blew
my mind. I don't remember it. But the fact that
Tatum and correct me if I'm wrong here led the
series in points, rebounds and assists yep, and still lost.
(11:28):
As we know he did. The Jalen Brown the MVP
for the finals. What I don't even know if I
remember it like that. I didn't have a horse in
the race, like as far as a bet, but he
led in all three of those categories and still did
not win. Take us through your thoughts and why that
MVP award is still open this year.
Speaker 3 (11:49):
So I don't think that Jayalen Williams should win the MVP.
I would never argue that. I'm telling you why he
might win the MVP, and it's because there were eleven voters,
media members who make up the panel. Those guys decided
the MVP. It is just like the regular season MVP.
It is a very much narrative, headline, media, hype driven award.
(12:10):
And that's what happened with Jalen Brown last year where
Jalen Brown came out in the NBA Finals and had
a thirty seven ball to start, or excuse me, a
twenty two bawl and then a thirty four bawl and
then another thirty ball in Game four. So he had
a bunch of high scoring performances where Jason Tatum didn't
start the series out as well. Those were Jalen Brown's moments.
(12:30):
He was dominating the headlines even though Jason Tatum was
garnering more defensive attention, similar to SGA in the series,
where SGA is getting all of the defensive attention, all
those drives, they're being crowded and that's creating opportunities for
Jalen Williams. Same thing last year with Jason Tatum. Jason
Tatum was the guy who all olives drives. They were doubling,
(12:50):
The MAVs were sending everything at him, and that helped
Jalen Brown get more opportunities, scoring opportunities and assist opportunities.
But Jason Tatum still ends up leading there his entire
team in points, rebounds, and assists, and he only led
by two points per game on average over Jalen Brown,
but still leading points, rebounds and assists. NBA voters like
(13:12):
to reward the underdog and not the best player when
they have the opportunity to do so, and you saw
it even in the NBA Finals in twenty fifteen when
the Warriors won their first title. Andre Gadala won over
Steph Curry and Steph struggled that series by his MVP standard,
he still led that team by a massive margin in scoring.
He was still the best player and the most impressive
(13:33):
player for that Warriors team and the most important player.
But Andre Gadala had some great scoring performances, and he
was also guarding Lebron most of the time. Even though
Lebron Is still put up exceptional numbers. He was the
guy guarding Lebron, and that was the storyline, headlines drive
this award. Coming after off of game five, everyone's talking
about Jalen Williams, not as much Sga. Sj's leading the
scoring by a decent margin over Jalen Williams. People are
(13:57):
still talking about Jalen Williams. The headline is Jalen Williams
is forty piece. How much Jayla Wims has elevated this
game and he's been great this entire finals. And part
of that is because the Pacers have been hounding SJA
when he's bringing the ball up the court. Yeah, Jalen
Williams has been taking a lot of his ball handling
responsibilities and he's the guy initiating the offense more and
the thunder of playing Shay more off the ball. So
that's giving Jalwiens more opportunities. So that's a storyline. All
(14:19):
these storylines are just building to this moment that Jalen
Williams had where he had a forty ball. You have
to have moments that voters remember, and that could be it.
I'm not saying it should be. I not necessarily it
will be. But don't be shocked when Jalen Williams is
handed that true.
Speaker 2 (14:34):
Oh shocked. My job will be on the ground for
the next three days. I will be blowing away with
everything you just said. I like when you texted me
that last night. I said, Okay, that great article, great
great talking point. Fantastic job by you, because it really
does open your eyes to the possibility of it. But
(14:55):
for crying out loud, he had tennis. The guy's averaging
thirty plus points every game. Believe, the best player out there.
It's a quiet three, right, It's.
Speaker 3 (15:03):
A quiet to watch it. Sure, it's quiet, but if.
Speaker 2 (15:07):
You're paying attention to the game, even though he had
forty in that game, he's still Jaleen Williams had forty
in that game.
Speaker 3 (15:13):
Has thirty one thirty one, which what I mean quiet
thirty is it doesn't generate the headlines the next day.
Jalen Williams sockey point. That's what I mean.
Speaker 2 (15:21):
And even it's a talking point because people want to
be controversial, okay, but that voters like to become controversial.
Speaker 3 (15:26):
Voters have a propensity to reward the underdog. They just
do they want. They like when they have the opportunity,
like last year Jason Tatum, Jylen Brown, Steph Kerry Andregadala,
they want to give it to the dog. Even last series,
Tyre's Saliburn is Pascal siaka We talked about that together.
Pascal Siakam had no business warning that award. He actually
averaged more than Tyry Saliburn. But Halliburn is everything to
(15:46):
that team. He was the most important player in that
series against the Knicks and the best player, no question.
But voters like to reward the underdog in this situation,
and when the opportunity pronounce itself and they see a
window to do that, they will. And it could be
possibly another situation where Jayan Williams could become the youngest
finals that mean piece since Kawah thirteen, which would be
pretty crazy. I don't know what the numbers were.
Speaker 2 (16:08):
We'll have to ask Julian coming up at three thirty
from the start of the NBA Finals.
Speaker 3 (16:12):
What do you know what Jalen was listed at the start? Yeah,
he was plus I've already he was plus four thousand
at the start, forty one toy to one. Yep.
Speaker 2 (16:24):
Oh, oh, I got a little I got indigestion on that.
I wish I had a piece of that. Yeah, that's
that's a tough pill to swallow. I mean, he's he
like we we know, he is the Robin to the
batman here. So if you were going to take a
flyer on anybody winning other than SGA, and why not
because SGA was a monster favorite. Do you know what
(16:45):
his number was going into it, Like minus five fifty,
minus six hundred. Okay, so he's minus five to fifty
right now. He's minus five fifty right now. So he's
still a huge favorite. He still probably win. Oh yeah,
he better win. He has to win. He's been the
best player out in the floor.
Speaker 3 (16:58):
I'm an advocate for just giving unless the guy is
an awful series, a truly awful series that carry by
his teammates. Sure always give it to the best player
on the team, the most important player that was not
at all. That was step back then, that was Tatum.
Last year, that was Tyre's Halliburton in these Grammars finals,
and that's s J right now, So it should be
his award to win. But voters like to get cute
with this thing. They just do. And there's only eleven
(17:19):
of them. It's not like it's one hundred guys. You're
pulling eleven. Where's Dave McManamon. That's who we need to find.
Speaker 2 (17:24):
He voted last year for Jalen Brown and for for
Pascal Siakam over Tyres Haliburton.
Speaker 3 (17:30):
And oh yeah, I sent you the votings. Uh the
the I think those Tim Bonteps remember we mentioned his name.
Speaker 2 (17:36):
Oh it was Tim Bone. Sorry I crossed up the
white dudes that covered Sorry, Tim Bondteps, that's who it was. Yeah,
because I tagged him in the DA he didn't respond.
I never heard a justification out of that for him.
Speaker 1 (17:50):
No.
Speaker 2 (17:51):
Look, at the end of the day, I think you're
spot on where it's like, you know, how could I
make it a little bit about me. Let me have
a little agenda here if I'm one of the voters,
and it's just the world that we live in with
state of social media, it's easy to get somebody to
look at it. We see it all the time, whether
it's Hall of Fame voting or uh, you know, the
the awards for whatever league it is. It's like you're
(18:13):
always gonna find that one weasel that has no business
checking the box next to said player's name. But look,
I'm not gonna kill Jail Williams because he's had a
great series. He had a fantastic Game five. But SGA
had a great Game five. SGA saved the series. If
it's not for SGA in Game four and that fourth
quarter going for fifteen out of his thirty five, the
Oklahoma City Thunder are not winning their first NBA championship.
Speaker 3 (18:36):
And that's it. And Jim Limbs was the guy that
carried through three quarters because I thought Shay was pretty
bad that game. But then in the fourth quarter, Shay
does this thing a great mid range jumper that was
in that game, but not in the fishing twenty. And
that's not great production from him like that, that's not great. Yeah,
fifteen and overtime, that'll do it, or excuse me, from
(18:57):
the fourth quarter, that'll do it. And that's what he did.
Really closing time. He's the guy, and he's the guy.
So that's why I would never give the award to
jail Williams. Yes, but there is a justification and rationale
that voters can make in their mind right now where
they can tell themselves. Jalen Williams had some moments in
the series. He generated the headlines. Let's reward him this.
Speaker 2 (19:17):
All right, big question to get the party started here,
get involved with us at Fox pH O game gave
me trivia real quick.
Speaker 3 (19:22):
Oh sure, if Shay wins the MVP, Okay, he will
be the first player since who to have won the
regular season and finals MVP Steph Curry Nope, because he
didn't win finals MVP when he won it was Iggy
A couple of years before that twenty thirteen.
Speaker 2 (19:41):
Oh god, you're giving me the year or two? Twenty thirteen?
Wasn't that The run of the Heat was okay, and
it was of the Heat and Spurs in those final.
Speaker 3 (19:55):
Two seasons and it like Lebron.
Speaker 2 (19:59):
Yeah, it's gotta be leron twenty thirteen with that he
you know, yesterday I believe was the anniversary of that
Game six where Ray hit the three pointer that outs Alan. Yeah,
I three and and you know, I remember Pop got
something wrong with the benching of I forget what he.
Speaker 3 (20:17):
I think Tim Duncan was out of the game of
correct and they gave up the offensive rebound the Chris Boss.
Speaker 2 (20:21):
Correct and then but I had the spurs in that series.
And it's crazy because if he if that shot is
not made, like are we in Lebron's Lebron's legacy?
Speaker 3 (20:32):
Lebron is saying some wild ring. I can't even He's exhausting, man. Yeah,
when it's the all season, we love watching you hoop.
When it's the all season, can you just go away
so no one has to hear your voice?
Speaker 2 (20:46):
And that sucks to say. That really does suck because
there's a lot around Lebron. You know, first and foremost,
I hate where the people are just on that side.
That's just I hate on everything he does because there
are some really good things that he does and it
specifically that's school and Acron and I love when you
bring it up. People like a bunch of tax right, like,
shut up, you think he's got to attach his name
(21:09):
to No, he literally wanted to do something great for
his community. He goes back to Cleveland, right like he
didn't have to go back to Cleveland. Dan Gilbert wrote
that like Dan gil he hated it, Dan gilliy Dan
Giller hated him like he didn't have to go back
to Cleveland, but he wanted to do what was right.
Speaker 3 (21:21):
He brought a championship back.
Speaker 2 (21:23):
There are so many good things that could go on
and on about Lebron, but dude, like take a page
out of jay Z's book and just less is more
like we don't need to hear from the podcast in
and now that the whole Ring culture And it's like
I can't even you know, you want to put context
on this quote, but I can't listen to that podcast.
Speaker 3 (21:43):
I can't go. Jaja Redick was great. JJ's really damn good.
Here's the irony is that this whole idea of this
podcast is we're strictly going to talk about exces and
we're not talking about all the stuff that media is
talking about. But then, what did you talk about this
week that generated all the headlines? Was supposed to listen
to podcasts of this season Ring Culture?
Speaker 2 (22:04):
It's probably because he's like, you know, pulling Steve Nash
across the finish line, who will, by the ways, a
nice dude, but not a guy that's really all that
great on a microphone, very quiet and calm.
Speaker 3 (22:14):
And that podcast was good last year because JJ Reddick
was the one talk next to and JJ is a
brilliant media guy and just a communicator, so that that's
why it was a good podcast. I used to watch
every episode last season. Will never tune in for the season.
Speaker 2 (22:26):
Yeah, it's tough, and I, like I said, I hate
to rip on Lebron because he's one of the best
players of all time. But it's like, to come on,
you know, the only thing you're trailing Jordan in is
the rings and now you're trying to make it about X,
Y and Z. And again, I'm not even into this
because of the context that I'm probably missing. But at
the same time, like, he's not that deep, you know,
(22:47):
Lebron is not that deep, right He tries to come
off like he is, but he's not. And again, I
just I don't want to rip on him because I
love Lebron. I do it and came up witnessed all that,
like dude, single handley took the baton for the league
and had me tuning in. And that's that's an interesting
little segue here because if we could squeeze this in
before Julian joins us at three thirty.
Speaker 3 (23:09):
I did have some other things I want to get to.
Speaker 2 (23:11):
But last night, the Lakers were sold for ten billion dollars.
I think I saw something over It was valued at
like six billion or seven billion, so three billion over
what they were truly valued at, according to whatever whoever
values these franchises. And we just know how iconic they are,
(23:31):
of course, how many championships they have won. You know,
when you think about American sports teams, you think about
the Cowboys, you think about the Lakers, you think about
the Yankees.
Speaker 3 (23:40):
It's just that's it.
Speaker 2 (23:41):
Stop, right, But ten billion dollars a lot of money,
a lot of money.
Speaker 3 (23:47):
It'd be nice to have ten billion dollars. And all
I know is right.
Speaker 2 (23:51):
You would never think that the Bus family would never
have majority steak in the La Lakers. But when the
price is right, everybody's got a price. Ten billion is
ten billion. But is there something else? And you're a
good guy to ask this because you pay attention somewhat
to the ratings, and it's not even about that, but
it's about everything. Like Cubans out at Dallas, that's something
(24:14):
I never thought we would see. It just feels like
no ownership, nobody cares anymore. Like I don't care who
owns the Sixers. Like, think about it, Josh Harris, who
owns the Commanders owns the seventy six ers?
Speaker 3 (24:26):
If you told me that that was going to be
the case twenty years ago?
Speaker 2 (24:28):
Who lost my mind ten years ago to fifteen years ago, whatever,
Like no way you can, Like who cares? I feel
like there's just nothing that attaches us to these teams anymore.
Speaker 3 (24:39):
That's it.
Speaker 2 (24:40):
And I don't and and I don't think it's going
to ever be better. Ratings feel like they're coming down.
You know, you see some things that are happening around
the world as far as streaming are concerned. You know,
you look at the Major League Baseball with ESPN sorry
or esp and says now we're good, you know, so
(25:01):
we're out in Sunday night Baseball, Like there are so
many I just feel like we could be running into
a situation here with sports across the board or am
I off my rocker that at the end of the day,
live sports are gonna control all and command big money
and blah blah blah.
Speaker 3 (25:17):
But it feels like, all right, you know, more and
more as we is we move into.
Speaker 2 (25:23):
The future here that like these contracts are gonna blow up,
Like it's just have we just hit a spot right
now where it's about as good as it's ever gonna
be and the only way we're going from here on
out is down.
Speaker 3 (25:39):
Well, with this Lakers situation, it does have to do
with that to a degree in terms of the contracts
that they were gonna have to to give out because
Lakers have been run as a mom and pop shop,
and what that means is that their only revenue stream
was the Los Angeles Lakers, like that was a profitable
business for the bus fan. Almost all other owners, not
(26:02):
just in basketball, but in most professional sports, those teams
that they own are secondary revenue streams for them, and
that's an investment that they make. They have their other businesses,
whether it's hedge funds or whatever. A lot of these
guys are hedge funds partners or whatever it is, but
that's where they accumulate actually their wealth from and then
they make the investment in this team, and these teams
are secondary incomes for them. The Lakers were different, and
(26:26):
that's kind of why I think a big reason why
they sold that team is because now they have real cash.
The entire Bus family. Of course, it was Jerry doctor
Jerry Buss who owned the team in nineteen seventy nine,
and he owned it up until he died, I believe
was twenty thirteen, and then Genie Buss, and she has
five siblings. So now all this money that they just
sold it for ten billion dollars becomes that's that's cash
(26:48):
that they actually can have now. So now they have
real money and aren't just relying on the Lakers as
a revenue stream. So what that meant for the Lakers
in the rest of the league is that they didn't
have a ton of money to spend like they're entire
ire like Ethos, I guess was based on their brand
and the glitz and glamour of Los Angeles, and that's
how they attracted stars, like the history of the franchise
(27:10):
and just LA's cachet. But now you don't have to
rely on that anymore because you have Mark Walter coming in,
who actually is a Los Angeles guy. This guy is
the guy who owns the Dodgers. He is a Los
Angeles sports fan. He cares about Los Angeles. He has
a ton of cash. He is willing to invest that cash,
and he'll invest in all the departments that needed to
(27:31):
be invested on. It's analytics department, the health and fitness department,
the researchers, the pr whatever it is. All those departments
will be properly compensated now in a way the Lakers
didn't always do. So, Yeah, it does. I think partly
has to do with ratings and the direction everything's going.
But this is more to me about just the contracts
(27:53):
and how much more expensive the NBA is getting at
this point, and the beat Bus family wants no part
of that. They're saying, let's just let's cash out while
we can. Yeah, and look Cuban out right, Like you said,
it feels like there's a lot, But Cuban defends the ratings. Still,
you could defend the ratings, but there's more to it.
The conversation is in just ratings. I don't think, to
(28:13):
answer your earlier question, I don't think live sports will
ever not be a thing. No, I'm with you there,
I wouldn't. I wouldn't, But there are levels to it
and where we're where we consume live sports, like like
I'll use for example, my generation. Our attention spans are
really really poor. I mean, that's why Technical grew up
on cocoa melon. That's the issue. What's coco all right?
Speaker 2 (28:31):
Thank god you didn't grow up on that anyways, But that's
ruining attention span right now.
Speaker 3 (28:34):
Tech even worse, grew up on TikTok, and it's like you,
no one can pay attention. Nobody knows how to read,
nobody knows how to write, nobody has to do basic things.
You depend on chat. So I think the intention spans
of people in my generation are so shot. That's going
to be it's going to be different now people actually
consume live sports where it's going to be through social media,
(28:55):
and you're seeing that more and more. But live sports
will always exists in that platform and that medium will
always exist. But the worth of live sports may decrease
just based off of people can't sit down and watch
a two hour basketball game anymore because their attention spans
are just getting worse and worse and worse. And that's
a result of social media. But the leagues are benefiting
from social media because that's how other people are consuming
their content, and they're counting that as popularity. Yeah, you're
(29:17):
consuming on social media, that's still consuming the NBA. So
that's still a fan of the NBA. If you were
of the NBA. Well, that's how the NBA counts.
Speaker 2 (29:25):
I just look at what these contracts are coming up
as far as with NBA NBC, right, And I don't think.
Speaker 3 (29:30):
They have the finals, which is hysterical to me.
Speaker 2 (29:33):
Right, you look at last pensils, correct, you look at
last year with the numbers were with Boston Celtics. I
don't think the numbers did all well last year in
the NBA finals. Right, You look at what's happening right now.
I get it, we're not even going to get into that,
but I don't I think we have seen the best
of the best as far as that category is concerned,
as far as the NBA.
Speaker 3 (29:50):
And that's why you get busted again. Almighty dollars controls.
Speaker 2 (29:53):
Ah, you flow ten million in front of me, three
billion over what was projected value, then of course you
have to take it. She's still involved, But it's crazy
because you would just think that the Bus family would
always be the number one ownership group as far as
Lakers concerned. Like we talked about with Cuban. Anyways, a
lot to get to Julian edlol from Draftings Sports. But
back over to the NBA Finals, does he believed the
(30:15):
MVP Award could go to Jalen Williams. We'll talk about
some of that movement is concerned. And we also have
some odds on the NBA Draft. And Sam Austric has
done a great job with Jack Forest, who's a hooper.
Speaker 3 (30:26):
I didn't know he balled. Plays over in Greece. Is
he in Grease? Yeah, well he's here now before the summer,
but yeah, he plays in Greece. What was he a
buck now? Yeah?
Speaker 2 (30:33):
Even thrown down dunks bro. Anyways, Jack Forrest and Sam
Ostri on the clock. It's our NBA Draft special shows.
We got two of them. We're gonna roll one out
tomorrow again at five o'clock. We got more on tomorrow's
We're Live from Sisters Bank Park or Expendy Live. Excuse
me for the big series between the Mets and the Phillies.
But Julian's gonna talk a little bit more about the
(30:54):
NBA Draft and specifically Ace Bailey rejecting the seventy six.
Speaker 3 (30:59):
Ers the City of No Love.
Speaker 2 (31:01):
Sam Austrie Ace wants no part of Philadelphia, but Foolis
should win any part of him. It seems like he
doesn't want to go anywhere. This dude's an interesting cat.
We'll talk about Ace Bailey the movement as far as
the object concern.
Speaker 3 (31:12):
Should we be reading into it a little bit more?
Which WILLI know?
Speaker 2 (31:15):
THEO from DraftKings sportsbook on Things NBA Finals, Game six
other side back of this
