Speaker 1 (00:00):
Number one on your car radio preset hand and new
and improved. Iheard radio app w D yes and w
D two seven three D Philadelphia is Fox Sports Radio
the Gambler. Yeah, eating away we go. Good afternoon, everybody.

(01:03):
It is the Daily Ticket. I am Sean Brace and
the Phillies are getting smoked right now in the seventh inning,
game one of a doubleheader right here at home Citizens
Bank Park. Of course, we got a little fireworks action
going off that hike, and yeah, fourth of July right

(01:25):
around the corner. We are going to have some fun today.
I can't wait to get into the four o'clock hour
and a special guest making his Daily Ticket debut and
talk a little bit more about what he's got cooking.
And we'll get into all of that a little bit later.
Here's the deal, though, Today was a Kyle Schwarber day.
And give me a fireworks again. Please give me a
fireworks again, because Kyle Schwarber just delivered bye bye put

(01:49):
another home run to the right field seats. It is
now six to one. We took Kyle Schwarber two plus
total bases at PLA plus one fifty today. That was
how we got the party started. Earlier today on the
DraftKings app, and when I saw that number, jumped right

(02:09):
at it. I also said, you know what, let's keep it.
Let's just keep it simple stupid, right, kiss, keep it
simple stupid? Where's to live by? Kids, when you're coming
up in this great content game of ours, whether you're
in the professional business, whether you're in the broadcast industry,
if you're making cheese sticks for a living, you're a plumber.

(02:31):
Well I don't know about that, but what I would
say is keep it simple, stupid. That's the words to
live by. And Kyle Schwarber, I get his numbers. I
mean Schwarber mashes. He's ready to go. He was off
against the knuckleballer two nights ago. Of course they were
rained out last night, and I just said, why not

(02:52):
roll with Kyle Schwarber in back to back games. There
are worse bets to make Kyle Schwarber having eight app
bets and for him to get you two bags, and
of course in each game, let's roll with it. No
idea what the nightcap number will be. The home run
number was plus two to fifty. I got two total
bases at plus one fifty. Yeah, it would have been

(03:12):
nice to have that dinger number, but at the end
of the day, a win is a win, damn it.
And that's how we start things off here on a
daily ticket Wednesday. A lot going on in the sports
world and a lot going on around here in Philadelphia,
including some stuff that last week. Natalie Eganoff joined us
in studio at sam austri on Thursdays and we talked

(03:36):
about the poop cruise. I think we need to come
up with something like that. That's happening right now in
Philadelphia with all the trash not being picked up. So
we're gonna discuss a little later today things that we
can't live without. Services that you think you're all right with,
but if they're not there when you need them the most, yeah,

(03:57):
you're gonna go through hell. And right now, all that
trash being piled up before Fourth of July weekend, Yeah,
not a good scene, not a good site right now
for the city of Philadelphia. We'll talk a little bit
more about that big breaking news story of the day.
It seems like the New York Knicks got their man,
and it's looking like Mike Brown, two time Coach of

(04:20):
the Year, will be the new head coach for the
New York Knicks. Now, there's a few ways that we
can go about this, and let's just start with this.
Do they have a good coach? Yes? Yeah, I'd love
to sit here and say that, Oh, you know, it's
a new guy. It's a rookie coach. He has no
idea what he's in for. Mike Brown has been a
the around the league for a long long time and

(04:43):
New York media, New York fans, of course, the mentality
of you must win every game. Bottom line is Brown
has been around the sun and then some. He has
a combined record of four hundred and fifty four and four.
He was the head coach of the Calves, the Lakers,

(05:03):
and the Kings. He won his first NBA Coach of
the Year honor in two thousand and nine, and then
won again with the Sacramento Kings in twenty and twenty three.
And if you went Coach of the Year with the
Cleveland Cavaliers and the Sacramento Kings, and I know who

(05:24):
was there in two thousand and nine, that's understood, but
the Sacramento Kings, that's saying something about what you bring
to the table. There's also a video that has circulated
about Mike Brown for a long time, and specifically at
his run in Sacramento, which was cut short and to
no fault of his own. To be honest with you,
that was a bad job by the general manager slash

(05:47):
ownership group out there in Sacramento. Two remove him from
that spot. Like you said, you just came off of
Coach of the Year and the next thing you were
firing him off a tough start. I know that they
were thirteen and eighteen heading into December, but bottom line is,
come on, man, it's the NBA Play eighty two. You
gotta give him a chance. So with Mike Brown, the
one thing I remember the most is the video and

(06:08):
the way he gets the attention of his players. He
seems like a player's type of coach, no nonsense, knows
what he wants, good axes and o's, but really had
the attention of those players out there in Sacramento. And
as I said, the teams won in Sacramento. Remember they
had the great rivalry with Lakers for all those years,

(06:30):
with see Webb and Vladi Divac and Paisie Stayokovic and
Bibby and you know, the list goes on. Who was
the dude from Kansas, the white Actually he had a
heart problem. What was his name, the big name, It
will come to me, but yeah, look at the end
he was out there in Sacramento and he was able

(06:51):
to win. Mike Brown for me, is about as a
slam dunk head coach higher as you can get for
the next But here's the deal. That's like rubbing me
the wrong way. You know, this wasn't the plan all along, right,
Like they had their eye on Jason Kidd. And I

(07:12):
know that we can look at a guy like Mike
Brown and say he's a secondary prize and that's all
well and good. But from the ownership's perspective, are they satisfied?
And that's where it starts because Dolan is an absolute
madman and the fact that he did not get his guy,
and if Mike Brown comes in and Jason Kidd becomes available,

(07:35):
he doesn't get a new contract. Mike Brown could be
out next year. It's just a mess of a situation
with that owner and it's not going to change until
he is out. I know people wanted to suggest that, oh,
he wasn't involved bs BS. I think Cowherd put out
the idea that again they were behind the spear out

(07:56):
there in Las Vegas. MSG runs it. So Dolan was
kind of trading on that. I come on, man, if
you own the New York Knicks, you eat, sleep, and
drink this stuff. You go to every game, You're a
part of every decision that's possibly made. You're not going
to all of a sudden just give up. Oh well,
you know what, I'm gonna let these guys run the show.

(08:16):
And then all of a sudden they started winning. He
was involved to what manner, we don't know, and ultimately
he was the one that fired Tibbs as well. So
with that being said, that's where it starts. For me.
It's like, I don't expect this to be a smooth
operation due to the fact that the owner is still
running the show. With all that being said, the players

(08:40):
on this current roster are good enough to win the
East next year. We have been saying that the East
is wide open. The Knicks could very well win the
East next year. I love it. Man, It's July second,
we're talking about the NBA. They got something going on.
Free agency had all of our attention. I know, it's
kind of a you know, a no man's land right now.

(09:01):
We got baseball front and center. It's not even we're
not hitting. Not a lot of people are talking football.
I got a couple of topics we're gonna get into today, specifically,
one of will be rookies. We're gonna hit on some
quarterbacks underrated overrated list that came out, which is always
fun for July. Second, not a lot of football conversation.
The NBA has done a great job. They're controlling the

(09:22):
scene right now in the end of June early July,
because we're rolling right in the summer league and people
are talking to me about that. Now. Are we saying
that the ratings are gonna be the roof? No, But
it is interesting from an NBA perspective what they've been
able to do, Finals, Draft, free agency, summer League. They're
running those two three weeks. Man, nice work there on

(09:44):
that one. And we're opening up the show today talking
about Mike Brown being a new head coach for the
New York Knicks. I like Brown, I like the roster.
I just still don't like that owner. And the issue
is if something goes south, what happens if he's starts
thirteen and eighteen. I don't know if you could tell
me Mike Brown's job is safe. Dolan's a madman. We'd

(10:08):
hope that would not be the case. I'm sure Brown's
getting paid a pretty penny if he does get removed.
Oh well. But at the end of the day, if
you're talking about a team that you want to put
your money behind and place a wager on this team
to win X, whether it's the Eastern Conference, whether it's
you know, the division, whether it's to win the NBA Finals,
which I don't think they can just because of how

(10:31):
loaded that West is, But the East is wide open.
And if you're gonna sit there and tell me and
talk to me about the Sixers if they're healthy, the Calves,
the Orlando Magic, the Atlanta Hawks, which we spent a
ton of time on yesterday. Sam Austria actually sold me
on the Hawks, then you have to put the Knicks

(10:52):
up there with Jalen Bruns and leading the charge, because
that dude is a dog. Mike Brown, new head coach
for the New York Knicks. Again, does it move the
needle for you? Does this mean success? Was this the
right move? I will revisit a question that was asked
when Tibbs got fired, and the big question that I

(11:15):
remember we got into during that show was will the
New York Knicks regret firing Tom Thibodeaux, And I simply said, no,
there won't be anything that happens that again, even if
they start thirteen and eighteen, You're not gonna look at
Tom Thibodeau and be frustrated that you fired him. As

(11:36):
a Knicks fans perspective, from a Knicks fans perspective, from
just an NBA observer, I don't think that that would
be the case. And the reason why is because of
the way that Tibbs ran the team. Those guys played
an unbelievable amount of minutes that was not healthy. I
know that they made the run, but you saw the

(11:57):
tired legs. You saw it in the past two seasons.
They deserved a ton of credit. But if you're talking
about a team that needs to take that next step
and then all of a sudden they get to an ECF,
that whole tired leg scenario not gonna work for you.
And I didn't think that that was going to change,

(12:18):
And ultimately I believe that is what cost Thibodeau's job.
He was not going to change his ways, no reason
to revisit it. This has been discussed one hundred different ways.
But he was not going to change his ways. Tims
is sixty seven, sixty five, He's up there in age.
He wasn't going to all of a sudden say, you
know what, I'm gonna listen to outside voices or another

(12:40):
perspective on how I need to be a successful coach
at the NBA level. It's been a pretty damn good
head coach proved his worth, made me a believer. But
the question that was asked then was will the New
York Knicks regret decision of firing Tom Thibodeau? And I
said no that, And of course with the hire of

(13:01):
Mike Brown, there's no way you can tell me that
you regret firing Tom Tibodeau. And you didn't even get
your guy. Brown's a good coach. You know. We went
to the F one Arcade grand opening and it was
the day that Tims got fired, and I saw DJ
Jazzy Jeff. Oh, by the way, Sam Austrey, the young

(13:23):
buck that he is, had no idea who DJ Jazzy
Jeff was. I you know, I try, I try, I
try to school these young guns. I'm here for them,
you know when he said I did not know who
Djeff Lord, Yeah, exactly, kind of hurt me. I said,

(13:45):
wait what, it's a Philadelphia icon. It's one of the
greatest DJs of all time, right there, Will Smith Fresh
Prince Jazz got thrown out the front door. He used
to hit on Hillary. Any of that connecting Sam, No,
but I digress. I asked the DJ, Jasey Jeff what

(14:07):
his thoughts were TIBs being fired and he said, I'm
a Sixers fan and I say, yeah, I know. And
he said, well that's your answer, and I said, well,
what do you mean? And he's like I thought, with
Tibbs they were never going to win anything. Now who knows.
So that's the question that I'm going to roll out
now with Mike Brown. This improves them, right, This makes

(14:36):
the Knicks better because the play on the court is
the play on the court. They were able to solidify
somewhat more of a bench. We got into a little
bit of that discussion yesterday with Sam where they targeted
Jordan Clarkson. They were able to get Yaboo seally. So
now they've beefed up their bench, which was their number

(14:56):
one issue again, tired legs rotation, and he just needed
a little bit more from the players not named Brunson,
Josh Hart, Cat, And with going out and getting some
new free agents out there that were going to help
that bench, that's only going to make life easier for

(15:17):
those guys. Get rid of Cat was never the answer
for me. But Mike Brown, new head coach of the
New York Knicks, changes things up to the point that, Okay,
this guy knows what it takes to win two time
Coach of the Year. He's going to connect with his
players so that he's going to handle the ebbs and

(15:39):
flows of being the head coach of the New York Knicks.
And I just look at right now, from what DJ
Jazzy Jeff said to me, I think he was on
the something. As a Sixers fan, I'd almost rather TIBs
to be the head coach. Still, they were flawed. I'm
not so sure that that's going to be the case
with Mike Brown in there. Plus two eighty five right

(16:02):
now to win the Eastern Conference Calves plus two fifty
Nicks plus two eighty five Magic plus five fifty six
Ers eleven to one, Celtics eleven to one, Box twelve
to one. Is anybody buying any of the sixer stock
right now? I can't even sell it. I can't sell it.

(16:24):
It's so frustrating. But I spilled my bucket of frustration
yesterday and I choose not to do that two days
in a row. About the seventy six ers, again, I'm
very pessimistic about the upcoming season. As far as health
is concern, we're gonna be praying to the Lord above
about Dwelven be the big man, and of course Paul
George thirty five years old. But if that's the two

(16:47):
out of five, as far as the starting lineup is concerned,
we are going to have issues, and it is it
will be. But here they come play the song? Ah Lord,
all right, here's the deal. Let's up dated, ladies and gentlemen.
What do you say those fighting's doing a little of
that down there in the South Philly heat six to
three currently in the seventh inning as we speak, What

(17:10):
do you say we take a look at the live
action here, Tracy, what do you say currently you can
get the Phillies at plus seven poin forty to win
this game. It's in the seventh inning. Shore we're coming up.
I don't remember how many outs there are right now,
but I'll tell you what plus seven forty game one,
you got me believing nice little Penny to sprinkle a

(17:32):
little something on I'm live. I can't enjoy it, so
I'm not going to do that here right now. But
bottom line is the Phillies are in the seventh inning
and back in the running. Of course they're playing two tonight.
Do you want to get into a real quick thought
on a mcabel, as he did not have his stuff today.
He ended up going one and two thirds innings, allowed

(17:54):
two hits, five earned five walks, picked up three strikeouts.
ERA is now up to five point zero four lost
command and that was all she wrote, young gun. It's
full of potential, but it was never about mick Abel.
It was about Matt Painter. So mick Abel continues to
do what he's doing. You get him back into Triple A.

(18:17):
We're gonna have the return of Aaron Nola soon. So
that's going to be the case. And as I said,
Matt Painter needs to make it up to the majors,
like there's no reason why he needs to pitch in
Triple A for the remainder of this season. You need
to bring him up and get him involved to see
what he can do and ultimately if he can help
you out as far as rotation is concerned. In September,

(18:38):
and of course the playoff months are at it as well.
We'll see what happens, but that's a good problem to
have again. Kyle Schwarber at the dish and my guy
wait Yard earlier. That's what I'm talking about plus one
fifty on the two plus bagger DraftKings Sportsbook, no doubt
about it. And we're gonna ride with him again tonight.

(19:00):
It was a Kyle Schorber type of day. It'd be
great to see him go yard right here, right now.
And then I believe Turner is on first base, and
I think they have two guys on so that would
be a three run bomb if that would be the case.
I digress nighttime coming up though, we will have Game two.
We'll break that one down a little bit more as

(19:21):
soon as this one goes final. Dylan Cees and Christopher Sanchez.
Actually it's only one run around Trey Turners on first
two outs in the bottom of the seventh and again
schureb'er at the plate. Keep you updated on everything. Phillies
once again. Game two tonight, Christopher Sanchez on the Mount
Dylan Sees. Story for me is about this pitching rotation,
one of the best, if not the best, in all

(19:43):
of baseball. Sanchez a huge reason why six and two
this season, two point seventy nine ERA, coming off a terrific,
absolutely stupendous month of June. Sanchez had a one point
eighty five ERA and five starts month of June, most
recent outing against the Astra. Remember, everybody pitched really well

(20:04):
as far as the starters are concerned. Bats non existent.
He gave up one run over six plus settings last
Thursday in a no decision. Struck out eleven in that one.
So again we will shine the light on the nightcap
Padres and Affilies. I got some numbers on Dylan Cease,
so we'll talk a little bit about that as well.

(20:24):
Matt Scherico's going to join us at four o'clock. This
dude has been absolutely on a fire and he's a
member of the Gambler Guy. He has been helping us
out doing a lot behind the scenes. He is a
menace with the photography. He is all over the place

(20:45):
as far as cameras are concerned doing some really cool events.
And the one that jumped off the page the most
was Devonte Smith's softball game. He did it last year.
They rolled him back out there again up in the
Lehigh Valley. Place was packed. You're talking about some heavy hitters.
Ryan Hour was out there. But I can't wait to
talk to Matt about Cooper Degene. This dude's a freak man.

(21:07):
I know people are kind of worried about Cooper Degene
and the award tour that he's been on this offseason
and this summer. And I saw pictures like he's looking
cross eyed, and my man's twenty two. He's loving life.
He's a Super Bowl champion, just celebrated his twenty second
birthday on Super Bowl Sunday. Picked six like, it's gotta

(21:30):
be good to be Cooper Degene, Right, It's got to
be good to be Cooper Degen. And he is such
a gifted athlete that no matter the sport, this dude
is going to excel. He won the home run Derby
for the softball, He won the three point shooting competition

(21:53):
for the Eagles down at the Plestra. He's condunk. You
can throw down alley oops like He is the chosen one.
He is a white cornerback. Cooper dejen is the chosen one.
I thought long and hard about buying a Cooper Dejeen
jersey for this upcoming season. I think I'm going to

(22:16):
do it. I am twenty two years older than this dude,
and I'm going to buy that jersey. Yeah, yeah, Yeah,
I'm gonna rock. I'm gonna rock. No shame in my game.
This dude is incredible to the point that he might
be one of the gift, the most Listen to what

(22:37):
I'm saying, skilled, gifted, the most athletic player in Philadelphia Sports.
Look what else do you need to see? He can
do it all. He literally won beer pong. He won
the beer pong competition with Jason Kelcey that will be

(22:58):
popping out here soon on video near you. You want
to talk about the skills, the speed he returns punts
at the NFL level. He's a cornerback at the NFL level.
He might be one of the most gifted, most athletic
players that we have ever seen in the Philadelphia sports uniform.

(23:21):
Don't take my word for it, just open your eyes.
Who else is on that list? When it comes to
the most athletic players that made you go, whoa the hell?
Cooper dejen is doing it right now. We'll have fun
with that conversation. A lot to get to. As I said,
Matt's going to join us at four o'clock. So many

(23:42):
cool things happen at that softball deal and Devonte Smith
really making a name for himself talking about the rookies.
Some good stuff there. So Matt was behind the scenes
and then some involved with the night time before. As
far as the dinner is concerned, he's going to talk
about some of the good players that were hanging out.
A good story. He'll be sharing it with us, and
of course he is a Knicks fan as well. So

(24:03):
we're gonna have some fun with Matt coming up at
four o'clock. A lot of fun coming your way. Trust
me when I tell you we're gonna talk some racing movies.
There's some controversy on my timeline when we're discussing some
of the better racing movies of all time. It's a Wednesday,
it's July second. We're gonna get through it together, people,
But we're gonna have some fun, all right, ah lord, Yeah,

(24:25):
we'll talk some racing movies off of the F one
movie Rotten Tomatoes? Do people use rotten Tomatoes? Is that
a thing for people like I don't get bogged down.
I don't really watch something because it gets a high
level score, you know. I trust my friends like Jansen
and Mark Henry Jr. They take this stuff seriously, like yeah,
they're in on the movie vibe. They're like, yeah, that's

(24:47):
a good movie, you should see it. I've been dying
to see Centers. Marken Virginior still won't stop talking about it. Good.
I'm fired up to see Centers. I'm not gonna pay
thirty dollars to rent it at my house, but I
want to see Sinners. Controversy on the timeline about F one,
the movie and the racing scenes. I will put the
racing scenes up against any racing movie ever made. And

(25:12):
if you're gonna tell me Ferrari and the racing scenes
in that movie are even close in the same stratosphere,
I'm gonna tell you're out of your mind. Ferrari is
a great movie, but we're talking racing scenes. I'll give
you some other good racing movies from a past and
we'll have some fun with that conversation. Uh, not so fun.

(25:34):
The Diddy trial. The hell's going on there. People are
out of their minds. We'll talk a little bit about that,
and then some Fourth of July discussion. As I said,
the fourth of July right around the corner. And some
of the questions that you continue to get is number one,
the fireworks. Yeah, there's negative nancies out there where they're like, oh, man,

(25:58):
I don't want to hear the firewars? Do we have
to do the fireworks? I love fireworks. I can't get
enough of them. I feel you, you know, on a
serious note, when we talk about veterans that actually do
deal with that stuff, the PTSD all, my heart goes
out to them, absolutely understood. Got it. The dogs, I
feel you got it. But man, fireworks are great. I

(26:21):
love fireworks. I once worked with a guy who hated fireworks,
who said it was a waste of money and that
people shouldn't spend money on fireworks. Boo hoo, it's America,
it's apple pie, it's burgers, and it's fireworks on Fourth
of July. But what else? What else we bring it
to the barbecue? Fourth of July must have? So I
got a nice list in front of me, we'll have

(26:42):
some fun with that. Again, a lot to discuss, but
we're gonna slide it over to the NFL. On the
other side, we'll keep you up to date on everything
that's happening in the Phillies right now. Bottom line is
this Phillies are playing too. We'll let this one play out.
Hopefully they can come back here. We will preview game two,
get you set up for some plays there as far
as DraftKings is concerned. But on the other side, I

(27:02):
want to flip it to the NFL. Got a nice
list from CBS Sports on a July second. We call
that a little alleyup to the Coope de Gene. That's
what that was at the Palastra Underrated, Overrated. You are
not going to believe who is on the underrated. I'm
not sure you would agree either. And uh yeah, he
plays for your favorite team right here in Philadelphia. We'll

(27:24):
talk more about that list. It's a daily ticket at Jericho.
Going to join me coming up at four o'clock more
or after this
