Speaker 1 (00:00):
Number one on your car radio preset hand the new
and improved Ihard Radio on WD two seven Bring deep
Philadelphia Ice, Fox Sports Radio. The Gambler.
Speaker 2 (00:15):
Swum on blasted high in the air, right Marte looking up,
and that ball is gone.
Speaker 3 (00:22):
Kyle Schwarmer with a towering home run back in his
home state of Ohio. Kicks and deals and the Pitts
swung on a little looper to third, Sosa backing up.
He's got it and the ball game's over and the
Phillies have got their fourth straight win to start this
road trip.
Speaker 1 (00:40):
Is they beat the Reds four to one. Yes, and
that's how it sounded. Courtesy of Scott Franski and the
Philadelphia Phillies Radio Network. Last night was an enjoyable one,
four to one. Your final score the Phillies battling back.
Abbott pitched his butt off for the Reds, but might
have been in there to tad Bit long and the
(01:02):
Phills took advantage of that. Now, I want to give
all the credit in the world to the Phillies. Regardless
of whether or not you would have pulled Abbot there.
There was a mistake by Tito to keep him in
the game. Ultimately, the Phillies needed to come through and produce,
and they did exactly that, especially in that eighth inning
when they scored four runs. But what a game it was,
(01:22):
and it's one of those games for my money. As
I was watching it last night that I was saying,
what a great experience it is. What a fun time
to be a Philadelphia sports fan. What a fun time
to be a Phillies fan. You know, Schoerberg goes Yard
in that inning and now has the was he a
(01:45):
forty one on the season right now, he's just demolishing
the ball. It's been. It's sane to watch him forty
two on the season, ninety seven RBIs that was their
sixty ninth win on the season for the Phillies. Sure,
Bett two and again I think it was zero for
three stepping into that spot, he goes yard. Turner came
(02:06):
through in that game in that inning as well. Sosa
as well with two hits last night, just filling in
wherever he needed to be, second base and third base.
This team is delivering all at the plate, and that's
where it starts for me. This team right now has
showed you with a couple coming from behind victories against
the Rangers and then last night against the Cincinnati Reds,
(02:29):
both really good squads that they're capable of battling back
due simply to the bats. Now ball goes boom. That
always helps life. Right. We talked a lot about the
power numbers over the past few weeks, and I get it,
Shoorber is the one guy, but ultimately it doesn't matter.
They got the job done. Harper had a double, Real
Mutto had a double, Harrison Bader had a double, Western
(02:51):
Wilson had a double last night, and again from the
RBI perspective, Shoreber, Turner, and west and Wilson getting the
job done. Two out RBI Trey Turner, Schoreber and Weston
Wilson and this team was dialed in from the dish
in the late inning setting last night in Cincinnati. Now
to the pitching side of things, tywe Walker with yet
(03:14):
another solid appearance. He gave up one early six innings,
pitch six total hits, one walk only one, earned two strikeouts.
And I know you're flirting with disaster by rolling Taiwan
out there, it feels like, but the proof is in
the numbers, and like I am definitely a detractor for Taiwan.
Walker but he's looked good and he's passed few few stars.
(03:36):
Now you're not expecting him to go nine innings. You
don't think he's going to have a complete game, and
you want to get him out of there. I'm like,
ab it last night from the Red's perspective, But Taiwan
Walker six innings, pitched six hits, only one earn. If
you listen to the show yesterday, you know that's a
thumbs up across the board. Romano came in. That was
(03:57):
probably his best appearance in a long time. Roberts and
gets his first sign, his first action for the Phillies.
He ended up walking the leadoff hitter on four pitches,
but he came back, battled back and was able to
get out of the inning with zero runs scored. And
Kirkerham comes in in a save opportunity and slams the
door shut. And that's all. She wrote. What a great
(04:19):
game by the Phillies last night, in a game that
you know. I think there were a couple of those
over the weekend against the Rangers. I know that there
have been a few in the past few weeks. This
team has showed you that they're battle tested for any
situation that might present itself throughout the course of nine
innings plus. You know, here they were. The bats were
(04:41):
dead silent going up against the pitcher in the eighth
inning that had their number all evening long. Just settle in,
stay the course, get the bats at the top of
the order to the dish, and exactly what they did,
and they were able to make them pay with a
magical smash. They had to review. It was interesting because
(05:04):
it did look a little bit like it could be
possibly viewed as foul. But for my money, just a
great hit by Schwerburn again, forty second home run. As
far as the you know, it's funny as we were
talking about this yesterday, let's take a look at that
real fast if we could. As far as the odds
are concerned, and whether or not we've had some change
(05:25):
when it comes to the nationally now, yes, yeah, a
little bit. No, Actually did that go the other way?
It's minus ten thousand, Shover's plus sixteen hundred. I forget
what show Hay was yesterday, but I think the number
has climbed. As far as the favorite for the MVP
is concerned. Show heyes in the news, but not for
(05:48):
hitting a home run. He did hit his third straight
game having a home run, did go yard yesterday, forty
two bombs on the season. It's incredible to be able
to see him. And then yes, he was in the
Angels stadium. So first game back at the Angels. We
saw this happen a couple times last night with Alec
Bregman with the Houston Astros, or excuse me, with the
(06:11):
Red Sox going back to Houston, hit a home run
in his first time back at Houston and show hey,
his first home run back at Angels Stadium. So he
does go yard last night, and that is why we
didn't see much of a movement when it comes to
odds except for in his direction. He is minus ten
thousand to win the nationally gibb b. I think this
race is all but wrapped up. But if you want
(06:33):
to put money on Kylee Schwerber, due to the fact
that he could continue to hit bombs, if he does
hit fifty nine, if he does hit sixty, could very
well have an opportunity to win the award. But man,
those odds makers are making it look like this is
a one horse race. Still, the show goes on, and
here's what we got tonight round two between these two teams,
(06:53):
Phillies and Red's Brady Singer on the mound for the
Cincinnati Reds. Ranger Suarez getting his start this evening for
the Phillies. And look last time out for Ranger last
couple times out, if I'm not mistaken, for Ranger just
can't get over the hump from that fifth and sixth
and it can't finish what he has started now his
(07:15):
last time out. Let's see or first of all, like
I said, the odds for tonight's game minus one fifty
six for Rangers Suarez plus twenty seven of greatest singer
on Draftckings sportsbook. Nine and a half is our total
in the game. It was pretty high last night as
far as nine and a half was concerned. I think
that's what the number it went off at and stayed
well under there. Ranger Suarez this year two point nine
(07:39):
four ERA last time that we had Luke, and Luke's
gonna be joining me here shortly. I asked him if
he was concerned about Ranger Suarez and he said yes.
Ranger SWAZ two point nine four E r A eight
and five on the season, seventeen games started, so this
is his eighteenth game going this evening. Last time out,
pitched six and a third against the Orioles and ended
(07:59):
up giving up nine hits five total earned runs in
that outing. Previous one before that was seven innings and
then he had two duds, five and two thirds and
four and a third. But before that it was essentially
death taxes and Ranger Suarez getting you to the seventh inning.
So you'd like to believe that Ranger Suarez is gonna
return to Ranger form, something that we have you know,
(08:20):
seen the majority of this season, and hopefully that will
be the case. But it's gonna be an interesting spot
for Ranger of course, with Cincinnati not getting the victory yesterday,
but the show rolls on. Man, what a great come
from behind victory last night. A game that I will
look back if the season plays out the way I
believe it will, then you know, it's one of those
(08:42):
games that you just you're gonna mark the tape. You're
gonna remember August eleventh, where they're able to battle back.
It's one of those games that will be featured on
the yearbook. Right. Oh, we were in Cincinnati and it
was hot out and you know what, we didn't have
our best day at the lineup or at the dish.
But all of a sudden, it just took one spark
and then boom, it's a Sosa base and then boom,
(09:03):
Turner gets on, and then boom Schwarber yard blasted. Let
me hear Franski again.
Speaker 2 (09:12):
Swung on, blasted high in the air to right. Marte
looking up and that ball is gone. Kyle Schwarber with
a towering home run back in his home state of Ohio.
Speaker 1 (09:26):
Did not know that, did not know that. I know
that the people are talking out the idea that Rangers
that Kyle Schwarber could want to return to his Midwest values.
And I say, you know, that's all great for fodder,
but I don't believe that that would be the case.
Cubs are good, though. I think KYLEE. Schwarber wants to
play in a place that he could finish his career,
(09:46):
have fun doing so, and oh, by the way, be
highly competitive, and that's here in Philadelphia. Check all the
boxes the Cubs. I'm no dummy. It's got to be
fun to be playing for the Chicago Cubs, especially when
they're good. They got some things going for them right now.
But again, and I would just look at the you know,
the skeleton of the Philadelphia Phillies, and I would probably
(10:07):
say that that's better than the majority of the teams
out there that could potentially sign Kyle Schwarber. I know
Dave Dombrowski's on MLB Network and at the end of
the day we were talking about this from the gambler
gangs perspective. We were throwing out numbers for the contract
side of things. If Kyle does stay, what is he
going to get? Xavier Scruggs, I believe is how he
say his name from MLB Network said he could see
(10:28):
Schoreber getting three hundred million. I don't think it's going
to get that high. I don't think it's going to
be as high as people want to claim it to be.
I also don't believe that the Phillies will allow him
to walk. You know, if it was for top dollar,
I would assume that the Yankees would say, Kyle, we
would love to have you and name your price, right
(10:50):
if it was for top dollar. He's got a lot
of baseball left and with that short porch, how many
home runs is Kyle Schwarber hitting every single year He's
going to deliver? And then some on that contract. But
I just don't feel like Kylee. Schwarber's gonna say, you
know what, I'm ready to leave Philadelphia, let me cash him,
let me go play for the Yankees. Maybe maybe not,
(11:10):
who knows. I don't know if this season has much
to do with that. As far as the success as
a team. I just think Schwarber enjoys playing at Citizens
Bank Park in front of the fans, fits in really
well in Philadelphia. I mean, he's a god. He can't
walk down the street by himself, so I would assume
(11:30):
that the Phillies will open up the checkbook and give
him whatever he needs. So it won't be because of money,
but it will be because if he does leave that
he wants to play for somebody else, and I don't
see that happening either. It is a hot button topic
here on August twelfth August the eleventh, but it's something
that will be settled in the offseason, so I'm not
(11:51):
losing sleep over it. Instead, the Phillies continue to win
and now are six games up first place in the
NL East. They're sixteen forty nine and there's sixty ninth win.
Last night nice against the Cincinnati Reds. Reds dropped through
sixty two and fifty eight, now thirteen games out of
first place behind the red Hot Brewers, who, oh, by
(12:13):
the way, have their second ten game win streak of
the season. They are thirty games above five hundred. That's
a hot team right now. Christin Yelich went yard yesterday.
They had some other players that stepped up and did
some good things for them. Again, I'm tuning into these
Brewers games and I'm just laughing because I'm like, Oh, Okay,
(12:34):
that's a guy that's doing something. That's a guy that's
doing something. Yeah, they're rolling right now. And it's a
rarity to put together multiple double digit win streaks in
the season, and I believe now it's been only five
weeks since they were able to do it. But there
has been only a handful of teams since two thousand
(12:56):
or in Major League Baseball history that have been able
to accomplish that. Feet two double digit win streaks in
a season. O one Cardinals, thirteen Braves, fifteen Blue Jays,
seventeen Dodgers, nineteen Astros are out of twenty twenty five Brewers.
It's a good company to be in, but all in all,
it's what you're doing for me come October. End of September.
(13:17):
This is a good team, a really good team, number
one team in baseball according to their record. But they
are flawed. They do have holes, and they're not showing
it right now. They're red hot. They're battling back. They
beat the Mets on a walk off the night before
and again putting it together to get the victory last night.
There's a lot to like about that Milwaukee Brewer squad.
But at the end of the day, we'll see how
(13:39):
things are looking coming up here and just about a month,
give me to September, we'll talk more about what the
Brewers are. Last night they lumped up the Pittsburgh Pirates
seven to one. They were minus one seventy four favorite.
So tonight once again we got the Phillies and Reds
going head to head. Suarez in amount of minus one
fifty six Singer coming through at plus one. And then
(14:02):
for the Brewers, Freddy Peralta taking on Paul Skiing. So
Skiing's getting the opportunity to go head to head against
the red hot Brewers. We'll see if they can cool
them off. This evening. You can get Paul Skeens at
plus one eight. I would definitely take a flyer on
the Pirates getting the job done tonight. As I said,
Luke Harcane's gonna join me on the other side. We'll
talk more about all things Phillies MLB. We'll even mix
(14:25):
in some Eagles conversation. Plus you're going to hear about
the NFL preseason one with Football is King with Ryan
Beef Coo and Nick McLay got the boys working hard
this week. It's football season, ladies and gentlemen, it is here.
We got a lot to talk about, some dumb side
topics that we will get into, but all eyes on
(14:45):
all things NFL College football coming up here soon. But
the Phillies continue to win and are extremely fun. I'm
telling you, I was sitting there at the dinner table
last night, tilted the TV towards us. Wife didn't say anything.
My daughter was watching, of course, my baby boys all
dialed in. I don't know if I should say that
out loud. He's three months old. He's kind of watching
the TV off in the distance. That's not good. We
(15:06):
don't want that. But still we're all phillied up, ready
to go, and it's gonna be a hell of a
month of September because Schwarber's gonna continue to hit bombs
him and Ohtani, you're gonna go back to back, belly
to belly. You hit one, I hit one. Keeping it moving.
Cal Rawle's gonna be continuing to stay hot in the
American League. There's a lot to discuss and it's gonna
(15:27):
be a great month of coverage right here on the Gambler,
all led by Luke Arcaney, who is our MLB and
Phillies insider. He joins me on the other side, it's
the daily ticket. Don't quant more after this
