Speaker 1 (00:00):
Number one on your car radio preset hand the new
and improved Diehard Radio WAYES and WD two seven three
D Philadelphia.

Speaker 2 (00:07):
I is Fox Sports Radio the Gambler. Where we go
in a good afternoon.

Speaker 1 (00:26):
Everybody here the theory outside the middle of the road,
workday to Wednesday.

Speaker 2 (00:35):
Yes, as I said, good afternoons.

Speaker 1 (00:37):
So much getting on And yeah, I'm sure you all
feel like I do a little bit right now, a
little light in ahead. If you've been staying up late,
and why have you not? I'd think at this point
in time everybody needs to be staying up late because
of the fightings. Those fightings are on the road, and

(00:58):
as they are competing for the overall best record in baseball,
the overall one seed in baseball, in the way that
they continue to do it, battling back and yesterday might
have been the epicenter of it all. And what took
place out there schebez Ravine with the Dodgers. Yeah, of
course we open up real easy today. As the Phillies

(01:21):
went on the road in Game two, in a game
that shohe Otanni had everybody talking, everybody focused on, because
the idea was that the Phillies would be a little lackluster,
a little LAXA day's a little light in their loafers
due to what took place the previous evening.

Speaker 2 (01:39):
And we know what took place.

Speaker 1 (01:40):
The Phillies clinched their second NL East Division crown, and
these celebrations went into late into the night. But this
team has something about them, and I know I brought
it up yesterday where I said, well, everybody that believes,
well this anti celebration folks like to bet against the

(02:01):
team that celebrated the night before. I know it worked
against me last year. And one of the culprits of
why that went against me last year was Garrett Stubbs
and Stubbs if you remember, they were on the road
against the Pittsburgh Pirates and Stubbs went yard in a

(02:22):
game that I think they ended up only winning by
one run. And in that game, Stubbs hit a home run,
his only home run in the season. So it's funny
how these things play out. But again, fast forward to
last night. This Phillies team is fighting for the overall

(02:43):
one spot and that is so important because if the
road to the Fall Classic runs through Philadelphia, and then
there's a good chance that already will but of course
if they get to the NLCS and they say they
are said they'd take on the Brewers out the overall
one spot. Who oh, by the way, have a one

(03:03):
game lead at this point in time, they're ninety two
and fifty nine. Phillies, they're ninety one and sixty one.
Everything will work itself out and everything will play itself out.
But the Brewers ended up winning yesterday by a score
of ninety two against the Angels. They're back at it
again this evening, seven forty at home against the Angels.
There's still I believe eleven games left if I'm not mistaken,

(03:24):
eleven for the Brewers. But to last night's game and
how crazy it was that if you missed it, you've
definitely heard about it right now. It's just wild because
this team has so much fight and they're fun to watch,
and that's what I wanted to That's what I opened
up yesterday's show about. That's where my focus was, and

(03:45):
when they were able to catch the crown or clinched
the crown, when they were able to do what they
did clinched the postseason berth on Sunday as they head
out to La Like if you haven't been watching. If
you haven't been enjoying this team from the start of
the year to this point, then shame on you.

Speaker 2 (04:02):
Shame on you.

Speaker 1 (04:02):
They had one wall in April and that was it.
Ever since then, this has been one of the best
teams in baseball, and I think, for my money right
now the best team in baseball. Oh, by the way,
without Zach Wheeler and Trey Turner in the lineup, it's
incredible what this team is able to do. But last
night more of a reason to believe that there's something

(04:23):
magical about this season. Albeit regular season, we know what
happens come postseason time teams get hot.

Speaker 2 (04:31):
Look at the Diamondbacks.

Speaker 1 (04:33):
We'll get into them in just the second, but grief,
they traded every I think they traded six players at
the deadline and now I think they're a game back
of the Mets, maybe a game and a half of
the Mets. And they battled back at one last night
like it's wild. What's happening with the airs on the Diamondbacks.
But again, it's that time of year where magical stuff happens.
We saw it last year with the with the Tigers.

(04:54):
As they continue to move forward here this season, like
there's something you know beyond explain explanation at this time
of year when it comes to the great game of
baseball and playoff baseball on the horizon. And last night
you had the battle of the Phillies and the Dodgers,

(05:15):
and this was a game full of star power and promise,
maybe so much more from the Dodgers' perspective, because of
here we are. The Phillies were playing undermanned. JT wasn't
in the lineup. Dude to being ill.

Speaker 2 (05:32):
Oh the old man can't hang. I know the feeling, JT.

Speaker 1 (05:35):
I know the feeling anyways, But this is a collapse
that took place last night that like, if you're a
Dodgers fan, you're asking how and why and what's going
to be different? But shoheo tani on the mound, they
were slight favorites and minus one thirty seven, and he
was insane through five innings, no hits, one walk, fly strikeouts,

(05:56):
he was all over it. Peyton corners made the look
silly and just one by one chewing up those innings,
and then all of a sudden he comes up to
the plate and he hits his fiftieth home run of
the season five zero.

Speaker 2 (06:16):
But this is this is where it all like blows
up for the Dodgers.

Speaker 1 (06:21):
So the Dodgers, I believe, were up six to nothing,
and after sixty eight pitches, the manager decides to say
that Showhy needs to come out of the game. And
all I know is, if I'm a Dodger fan, pulling
sixty or pulling o'tany at sixty eight pitches to protect him.

Speaker 2 (06:44):
Or whatever it was to get your bullpen where I don't.

Speaker 1 (06:48):
I still don't understand the reasoning behind it no matter
what's being said. I just think it was being overprotective
of your star player that you know you need at
the plate. But all in all, it's like, then don't
pitch them period. If he's out there, he's warm, he's limber,
and he's got a note hitter. By no means do
you pull them? Do you have to let him go
all nine?

Speaker 2 (07:07):
No?

Speaker 1 (07:08):
Maybe you pull him in the eighth, maybe you pull
them in the ninth. But that's not how the Dodgers
handled it. And joey Otani, in his thirteenth start, was
carving up the phillies and was pulled after sixty eight pitches.
His season high this year was eighty. He has him
thrown more than five, and that's understood. But for the

(07:31):
standpoint of yesterday's game, you know, what are you doing here?
It's four to nothing lead. Justin Robleski inserts the game
and records one out before he allowed the Phillies first hit,
and then the second, then the third, and then Bryce
Harper came through with a basis loaded double before Brandon
marsh homeward and it was five four Phillies. Before anyone

(07:53):
could catch their breath, five four, I thought it was six,
not the apologies as it was four nothing. So then
all of a sudden, you're talking about Otani going yard,
hitting his fiftieth and the Phillies trying to find a
way to get a base hit.

Speaker 2 (08:14):
Take the lead, take the lead.

Speaker 1 (08:18):
It's like, all right, if you are a Dodgers player,
you got to be asking yourself what is going on
right now?

Speaker 2 (08:25):
Like, what are we doing here?

Speaker 1 (08:28):
Phil's score six in the top of the sixth, La
comes back, Rafael March.

Speaker 2 (08:39):
And comes up with a two out, three.

Speaker 1 (08:41):
Run home run in the ninth, and the Phillies go
on to win nine to six. Just incredible how that
game played out yesterday.

Speaker 2 (08:55):
I still don't even believe it. The Phils scored nine.

Speaker 1 (09:00):
Against the Dodgers' bullpen, nine hungover too, except for Bryce
Harper to win that game nine to six. It was
a magical day at the Ballyard for the Fightings and
a game that will probably have an impact out with
this team's mental over the next few weeks and then

(09:24):
some because look, this is the time where you have
to be playing your best baseball. This is the time
where you need a little bit of you know, those
those thoughts, those positive thoughts, the reassurance of yourself that
you can come through in the clutch, you could battle back,
and they have done it time and time again. Without

(09:44):
Trey Turner and Zach Wheeler in the lineup, Phillies have
nine games left to the Dodgers eleven. They have one
more again tonight against the Dodgers here, so a lot
to play for. Oh, by the way, they do have
this Diamondbacks coming up on the West Coast swing, and
then they come home before to three against the Marlins

(10:05):
and then three against the Twins. So that's how it
shakes out as far as the Phillies are concerned.

Speaker 2 (10:11):
To close up the regular season. But if that is.

Speaker 1 (10:15):
Something that is a precursor to what we should expect
coming up here. As far as the playoffs are concerned,
look out because this team has it. They have it
for all the naysayers last year, you can't say the
same thing about this team this year. This team has
the look. The oddsmakers believe they're favored to win it all.

(10:38):
That's You're at top of the list at plus four
to twenty five to win the NL over the Dodgers
over the Brewers. Phillies are at plus two to ten.
On DraftKings, sportsbook makes use braces to promo coo. Let
them know that you're listening to us. On the Gambler,
new users take advantage of everything.

Speaker 2 (10:54):
They have to offer baseball betters.

Speaker 1 (10:56):
They got live major League Baseball home run boosts happening,
fifteen percent profit boost, all that more. DraftKings is the
place that I go to no matter what, I always have,
always will. Starting to look at some of those playoff
numbers right now, but don't want to get too ahead
of myself. This team needs to continue to win ball
games and solidify themselves as the one or the two

(11:20):
seed and that's it, and that's all that matters. If
they're able to get that home field throughout. I love
their chances to get back to the Fall Classic. Was
I saying that last year? To a point? To a point,
But there's no doubt in my mind that this team
was a little different last year than it is right now.

(11:42):
They're hitting their best baseball, they're finding ways to win,
they're playing well or they're they're running a base as well,
playing great defense.

Speaker 2 (11:51):
And they have great starting pitching.

Speaker 1 (11:54):
Christopher Sanchez, who will be the number one starter in
the playoffs. I saw an inquiry writers say that beyond that,
Rob Thompson said it depends on the matchup. He said
he would not rule out using three lefty starters Santanosjuarez
Zzardo in a series.

Speaker 2 (12:07):
No, he can't, he can't.

Speaker 1 (12:10):
So like he came out after the game, he said,
the Phillies are going to shuffle their rotation for this
weekend series and Arizona basically set up things for the postseason.
Only certainty is that Christopher Sanchez will start tonight in
Game one of the nlds that came before the game.
Should they clinch a first round by.

Speaker 2 (12:29):
Hopefully that's the case. What a banger. It was.

Speaker 1 (12:31):
Great job by Luke Rcanny hanging out throughout the course
of the night.

Speaker 2 (12:35):
To get those clips up.

Speaker 1 (12:36):
Phillies are thirty nine twenty seven this season against teams
above five hundred, which is the best percentage against teams
above five hundred major League Baseball. There's so many things
we could look at to make you a believer in
this team right now. And I hope, I hope I'm
not alone. You know this, sometimes this city is real
fast to say that you know these teams are going

(12:57):
to be a disaster or something. You know, the panic out,
what are we gonna do? How are we gonna get
this done? Well, as long as they continue to do
what they're doing, playing the way they have played since
the All Star break, playing la they have been playing
since basically the beginning of August, more than anything with
Harrison Bata edition And oh, by the way, you gotta
love remember that guy yesterday tweeted me during the show

(13:18):
about Harrison Bader or Harrison Batter went over to yesterday.
I am certainly not going to sit here and make
Harrison Batter out to be who has been one of
the best players since he's been traded to the Phillies.
I'm not gonna make him up to be something he's not. However,
I think he's got the better glove out of Marsh,
out of Castie, out of Kepler. Kepler played well last night.

(13:40):
I think Kepler had a couple of hits like Mark
the the fact that Batter plays the best out in
the defensive side of the game, he is going to
get the start, hands down.

Speaker 2 (13:52):
I prefer to use Beata. I prefer those other.

Speaker 1 (13:54):
Guys coming off the bench as far as Penn hitting
is concerned. But we're getting Waid ahead of ourselves, Like
I'm not going to say and make Batter out to
be some hit or that he's not, even though he's
been playing his butt off since he's been brought to Philadelphia.

Speaker 2 (14:09):
People look at these numbers.

Speaker 1 (14:10):
And they say, well, if he's he struggled in playoff matchups,
and I think we went over his numbers. It's been
This will be I think the sixth time that he's
been to the playoffs. I think he's been a nine series. Yeah,
he struggled a little bit in postseason.

Speaker 2 (14:24):
Who hasn't.

Speaker 1 (14:24):
Though it gets more, it gets harder to hit a baseball.
The pitchers are better in playoffs. The game slows down,
a little more analytical, a little more dialed in, little
bit more defensive shifts, a little bit more adjustments from
the coaches over the top.

Speaker 2 (14:40):
Let's just put it that way.

Speaker 1 (14:43):
They're gonna they're gonna flip over every rock trying to
find anything possible to give them the advantage with a
magnifying glass, you know that. So things get a little harder.
Runs being scored into playoffs are a lot more difficult.
But this guy has also made can cast you out
to be something that he's not. And that's that's where
the rubber meets the road, if I may, But what

(15:06):
a game last night, and if you stayed up late,
love to get you involved the conversation at Fox PHO Gambler,
at Fox PHL Gambler, because there we are the Phillies
find a way to win another game. That not to
say that they didn't have no business doing. It's just
how freaky of a game it was, right you know,

(15:26):
you got the no hitter perspective from show. He gets
pulled and you're just like, wait a minute, what's going
on right now? Staying in the world of baseball, though,
I do want to put this out there. Cal Rawley
is fantastic and maybe maybe he might get the job
done when it comes to winning the AL MVP.

Speaker 2 (15:44):
I I'm throwing my hands in the year. I'm done
saying that.

Speaker 1 (15:47):
You know he's not going to This has been an
interesting race, to say the least, to pay attention to
who's going to win the a L and the n
L MVP Award this year? And then I get it
for people out there that have been anti cal Raley
or anti Kyle Schwarber because of how great show.

Speaker 2 (16:05):
Hey is and of course Judge.

Speaker 1 (16:07):
I think Schwarber's got his work cutout against him because
show Hey is the unicorn.

Speaker 2 (16:12):
Right. Judge is having a great season.

Speaker 1 (16:14):
However, cal Rawley continues to bell home runs and should
be a bigger story. Looks like he's a bigger story
than Judge, just because well, the position, the switch hitting,
the history. He could potentially get to number sixty as
last night he hit two more home runs, two more
home runs. This guy's got like, what ten ten games

(16:37):
this year where he has hit two more than one
home run with eleven games to play, cal Raley, He's
not gonna catch Barry Bonds seventy three back in two
thousand and one for baseball single season home run record.

Speaker 2 (16:49):
Through the AL. Though the AL.

Speaker 1 (16:50):
Record is according to CBA Sports is in play, the
record is of course held by New York Yankees captain
Aaron Judge, who slugs sixty two in two thousand and two.

Speaker 2 (17:00):
Here's the ALS single season home run leader board.

Speaker 1 (17:03):
Judge Maris sixty one, Ruth sixty, Ruth fifty nine, Jimmy
Fox with those A's fifty eight, Greenberg fifty eight Tigers,
Judge fifty eight Yankees, a Rod fifty seven Rangers, and
now cal Raley fifty six. In counting, there have only
been nine sixty home run seasons in baseball history, and
they've been accomplished by six players Bonds, Ruth, Marris McGuire, Sosa,

(17:27):
and Judge. If cal Raley joins that group, he very
well could be the guy that gets the award this year.
Plus four to seventy five out there right now after
last night's two home run performance, I think that's worth
a shot.

Speaker 2 (17:41):
I do.

Speaker 1 (17:42):
If he gets to sixty, I think that's going to
be extremely difficult for voters to look the other way.
As great of a season as Aaron Judges having as
he is dominating him an average imbays, you name it,
name the number, I get it.

Speaker 2 (17:57):
But the fact that Raley is able to do what.

Speaker 1 (17:59):
He's doing with the position that he plays, the historical
you know, reasoning behind it is more than anything of
why I would say, as I just went through the list,
sixty is a big dang number. Mariners are, oh by
the way, at the top of the West. So if
they add that to the mix, a division crown eighty

(18:19):
three and sixty eight a half game up on the Astros,
I think cal Rawley at this point in time is
worth the play at plus four seventy five. Well, to
get your thoughts there at Fox Pho Gambler, we're just
resetting it.

Speaker 2 (18:31):
You know.

Speaker 1 (18:31):
Look at the end I've said, Judge, I didn't think
the the the voters would pick against him. But if
he's continuing to do this two home runs, like I said,
eleven games to go, anything is possible. Plus four seventy
five dangling out there, DraftKings, why not take a shot
at it?

Speaker 2 (18:49):
All right?

Speaker 1 (18:49):
Major League Baseball? To open the party here, of course,
we got to get on over and talk some football
on the other side. Little underweather today not gonna lie
so We're gonna roll in a little bit of everything here.
We got singing and ding it coming up, and football
is king as well with Beef and Maclay also going
to run back a little bit of Sean Bernard and
myself as we talked a little nfl Q and A

(19:10):
from week two where we're at power rankings and beyond.
I will hit on some of those numbers myself as well,
But a lot to do right here in the Daily Ticket.
