Speaker 1 (00:00):
Number one on your car radio preset hand the new
and improved Iheard radio apps w D A S and
w D two seven Bring d PHILADELPII is Fox Sports
Radio The Gambler ew here we go everybody daily. Take
(00:50):
it with you on a Game three NBA Finals Wednesday. Hello,
how you doing everything? Good, beautiful day outside, sunny shine.
We are ready to go. Wheel of Misfortune going down
this evening. And if you have no idea what the
hell that is? Oh oh, you're in for a treat.
(01:13):
Thank you, yeah, thank you bugles right in the year.
You gotta love that to start a show. Anyways, we
have a lot to get to joining us on the program.
I'm liking this spot three pm on a Wednesday. Love
to make it a permanent official Well, he's got other
things going on in his life, unfortunately. Kyle Fisher joining us,
(01:34):
and we got a lot to discuss. Kyle, great to
have you. How are we doing today, sir.
Speaker 2 (01:37):
Good man. I'm feeling fresh, I'm feeling clean. I lost
about I don't know, three inches off the face yesterday.
Speaker 3 (01:43):
So oh look at you, Oh yes, sir, yes, sir,
freshened up. This is the shortest my facial hair has been.
Speaker 2 (01:50):
In nine years.
Speaker 3 (01:51):
Nine all I thought I didn't know what to do
when I walked in the door yesterday to pick her
up from daycare.
Speaker 1 (01:56):
All right, so time out here. And this is funny
because I reached out to Kyle. Kyle and I we
go back and forth and we try and figure out
what's a good day that he can fit us into
his busy schedule, and most of the time he gives
me a nice little window a couple of days of
work with both Tuesday was a perfect day. I'm like,
all right, let's go Tuesday. I got some ideas Phillies.
Of course, we're playing in the day today, so I'm like,
(02:18):
let's go with Tuesday. He locks it in. Next thing,
he goes, I have a haircut appointment, and I was like, hmm,
you know, just one of those things that I don't
have to deal with, and you know, it's just it's
it's it's at the end of the day, I'm a
bald man. What I do. I wish I had my hair.
Of course, my son is about a month old, and
(02:40):
he's got more air than me for the last fifteen
years of my life. At this point in time of
his of his early childhood here. But bottom line is
it's one of those deals that I'm saving money. That's
the wrong. What's what's an average chop cost just for
the hair? And do you have to pay extra for
the beard?
Speaker 2 (03:00):
So I always do hair and beard.
Speaker 1 (03:02):
Wow.
Speaker 2 (03:04):
Guy I go to I've known him forever.
Speaker 3 (03:05):
We were we know each other in high schools, a
few years behind me due His name is Jake down
at the Men's Club in Rocksborough.
Speaker 2 (03:11):
Anybody's interested. N He does wonderful work.
Speaker 1 (03:14):
Rocksboro has a men's club.
Speaker 2 (03:16):
Yeah, it's called the Men's Club. You know, it's it
needs to be a really tiny spot.
Speaker 3 (03:20):
Now it's they've expanded into what looks like a double
on Bridge Avenue.
Speaker 1 (03:24):
Really it's his personal barbership called the Men's Room.
Speaker 2 (03:27):
No, he works at the Men's Club. I know the
owners way back with me and my family understood.
Speaker 3 (03:34):
Been going there for a long time and then when
Jay topped on board there, he and I go way back.
He's done work with Eagles players, sixty players, he does
stuff international. The guy's a mogul, so, uh, definitely a
guy I go to it. It's a little pricey, sixty
five bucks for the hair in.
Speaker 2 (03:50):
The in the beard beard.
Speaker 3 (03:52):
But it's more than worth it because I come out
looking like this every single time.
Speaker 1 (03:56):
What's up? You do? Look good? You look fresh, you
look clean? What is that? How long of a chop
or you know, like when you got to do the
head and the beard? How long you take in there? Okay, yeah, yeah,
that's all right. That's sixty five hours. That's a good pay.
That's a good pay.
Speaker 2 (04:12):
We chop it up too. Man.
Speaker 3 (04:13):
We're sitting there telling life stories, catching up with each
other three so it's it has like an old school
barbershop feeling there, and we definitely take advantage of the time.
Speaker 1 (04:21):
I love it, all right. We got Kyle Fisher with
us here for the first hour. Roy Burton coming up
at four o'clock. We got some football discussion. I'm not
forcing it either. I want to get into when we
talk about football. Coming up at three thirty, Kyle with you.
I want to start focusing on some of these franchises
that we pretend are like great because they had success
(04:41):
thirty years ago. Like eventually that's got to run out, right,
And you know exactly who I'm talking about. I'm talking
about the Pittsburgh Steelers at the top. There are a
couple other ones that I have listed, whether or not
we're calling a reel or not as far as our
pretender as far as a franchise are concerned, And the
way we think about the Pittsburgh Steelers is not true
(05:03):
anymore to who they really are. So it's definitely something
I want to get into. They have murdered and then
dug up the dead body from the graveyard all Miles
Garrett and then drug the dead body down the street
like the way they handled signing Aaron Rodgers. Deciding on
a quarterback this year is about as bad as you
(05:23):
could do from a franchise perspective, especially in their situation
as desperate as they are. So like, I just want
to start diving into some of those bad franchises, those
pretenders that are out there. A lot to discuss as
far as that is concerned. Also, the Cincinnati Bengals. No
one's saying that they are a good franchise, but how
should we look at the Cincinnati Bengals as far as
(05:45):
contenders AFC Championship. This is two straight years they haven't
made the playoffs, two straight years that Joe Burrow has
not made the playoffs and I know he's a great quarterback.
Yet an unbelievable season, but how should we view that franchise?
And there are some alarming stuff coming out out of
training camp there and no surprise as the way that
they have been handling business all of these years. All right,
(06:06):
speaking of handling business, we have to open up shop.
We're an honest show here. Yeah, there's a live baseball
game going on right now, live game, and the Phillies
look good. Six to one right now, you got the
bottom of the seventh inning. Of course, last night. We
(06:27):
don't go crazy over losses, especially on June tenth, but
it was an ugly game and the Phillies ended up
getting lumped. I think eight to four was your final score.
But no need to waste time on that, because at
the end of the day, it's about winning a series,
right Like that's you got three games in front of you,
you take two of three. You'll take that every single time.
(06:48):
Most people, most Philadelphia sports fans, would take that every time.
The other one's down. Are probably listening to an afternoon
radio show yelling about something at this point in time.
But as far as the Phillies are concerned, Schwarber today
home run one for three. Let's see here Boom also
one for three. He has been looking good at one
(07:08):
of the surprising numbers. As we are alive right now,
somebody else just hit a home run here Bomer, Boom Yard,
here you go. Boom's having a day seven to one
right now. Philly's on top out of the three spot
for bomb Casty one for three. They got it going
right now. The one thing I wanted to bring up
for people Brandon Marsh actually doing well in the month
(07:31):
of June, you know, like when you struggle as much
as he has to start the season as bad as
as has been. Luke Arcaney sent me a text earlier
today was like, Dude, you know, I know it's a
big talking point as far as Brandon Marsh is concerned,
but man, he's really turned it around. And those are
the things like you have to grasp onto. Those are
the small victories that will take you to that next
(07:52):
step and hopefully break you out of the slumps if
you've had a disaster start to the season.
Speaker 3 (07:57):
For Brandon Marsh, for sure, Yeah, I mean, the guy's
been hitting almost three hundred over the last month. Last
two weeks, he's hitting three twenty yeah, I think.
Speaker 2 (08:08):
He's heard the noise.
Speaker 3 (08:08):
I think he's heard whether it's the chatter from the
fans or whether they're having discussions internally.
Speaker 2 (08:13):
You know, they're making call ups.
Speaker 3 (08:14):
And there's been some excitement down there with Justin Crawford,
even though he's probably not ready for.
Speaker 2 (08:18):
The call just yet.
Speaker 3 (08:20):
But when the hot topic of the minute for the
team besides the bullpen is the outfield, you can either
sink or swim, and Brandon has decided to swim and
get himself back in a position where he can be
a contributor to this team. Seeing how well he's hit recently,
obviously is an exciting part of the team. But he'll
(08:41):
have to keep that going long term for them to
avoid making a big splash at the deadline. I still
anticipate them making a move for an outfielder before the deadline.
I don't think they're going to rush Justin Crawford up.
I think it's more likely they go external for something.
But yeah, Brandon has been exciting recently. Boone's been exciting recently.
Other players have been down. But you get into a
(09:03):
trend when everybody but everybody struggles at once. That's when
it becomes frustrating and challenging. So to see some of
these guys starting to pick it up. Even JT's been
pretty good over the last week, So to see some
of these guys starting to get out of that funk.
It doesn't have to be everybody at once, but it
is promising to see some guys starting to hit the ball.
Speaker 1 (09:22):
Yeah, Keper had a little bit of a day yesterday. Again,
tough to pump that up. When it comes to the loss,
we'll talk a little bit from the pitching perspective. That's
really where what I want to focus about yesterday's game.
But on to the next one. Phillies came in today,
had to find a way to win a home ball game.
It is funny. It was hitting me last night and
I know this city very well. They would have been
(09:45):
losing their minds if they did not win that game
in extra innings the night before, and it would have
been six straight going into last night's game, and you
had t Mac and Kruck and Ben Davis and Rubin
Tomorrow and the fanatic up there in Section two hundred
(10:05):
people would have lost. There was already people going crazy
on the timeline about losing. And then these guys are
having the time of their life up there in section
two hundred. I was dying reading some of those comments. Again,
I don't agree with them. You play one sixty two.
These guys are out there, they're having fun. It's what
it's all about's entertainment. But there are some negative nancies
(10:27):
on the timeline are just like, oh, these guys drunk
just about my screen. They haven't talked about baseball all game,
and it's like eight to three, eight, the two, whatever
it was. I was just cracking up. But it's a
pretty cool look. And then t mac is having the
time of his life. I have no issues with it,
but it would have been funny.
Speaker 2 (10:45):
Yeah, I mean, it's a fun thing that they've done.
Speaker 3 (10:47):
They started it back with the team, I mean when
there was more room in the sands, that's when they
started it back in twenty thirteen. But a lot of
fun moments. I mean, it gives you a different look
to the broadcast. One sixty two can get monotonous after
a while. Very just switching it up for the fans,
switching it up for them, keeping them lively. I mean
I saw the fanatic bash his head against the railing
fifteen times in a row.
Speaker 2 (11:08):
That was fun.
Speaker 3 (11:09):
Yeah, John Kruck was personal live television his alcohol and
that would make a good squirrel stew.
Speaker 2 (11:15):
Like, there's all times of crazy stuff happening yesterday.
Speaker 3 (11:18):
So even if the result on the field wasn't what
fans had hopes for you or at least entertained.
Speaker 1 (11:23):
Along the way, Yeah, Cruck is the best. It's it's
a whole different broadcast when you get John Kruck in
the booth. And that's obvious. So it's been like that.
I mean, this guy is he was meant for television.
You go back to the nineties on Letterman and and
so on and so on of course ESPN, and when
Kruck is in the booth, it is a it's just
musty television for my money. Oh yeah, I agree, all right,
(11:47):
And you know what else is musty television when they're
winning seven to one. But again quickly on last night
with Mick Gabel, what what was your takeaway? I know
that the control wasn't there, That's what Thompson said, Uh,
maybe catching up? Is this a matter of like, okay,
the teams out there now have a little bit of tape.
I'm mickable after only two starts. Still though, you're able
(12:09):
to get what he was able to do in triple
A and take that. But your takeaway from a bad
performance by Mick Gabels something we have yet to see
in his professional career.
Speaker 2 (12:18):
Yeah, I mean, it wasn't the best start.
Speaker 3 (12:19):
It's something that guy, regardless of how good you are,
you need to learn how to deal with those struggles.
And you have one of the better teams in the
National League coming in. Not only are they one of
the better teams overall, they are one of the best
offensive teams in the majors. Yeah, they're extremely good with
two outs, They're extremely good with runners and scoring position,
and all those things are very difficult to limit for
a Zach Wheeler, let alone a Mickabel making a third
(12:42):
start in the big league. So I think that especially
when you're on the cusp of potentially winning the series today,
God forbid something insane happens here the rest of the way,
but for that to be your loss, and you still
end up looking back at the series as this was
a bounce back, and the way that Mickabel has been
able to change his mindset, It'll be interesting to see
if that mindset shift still sticks after facing struggles.
Speaker 2 (13:05):
For the first time in the big league level. But ultimately,
I mean, the guy battled right.
Speaker 3 (13:08):
Not having his best stuff, He's still battled through only
four innings, three earned runs, three walks, all on the
Hope solo shots, so he wasn't overloading the bases.
Speaker 2 (13:19):
He escaped some jams.
Speaker 1 (13:21):
You know.
Speaker 2 (13:21):
You look at the three home runs.
Speaker 3 (13:22):
It's only the third time in his professional career that
he's allowed three.
Speaker 2 (13:26):
Or more homers in a game.
Speaker 3 (13:27):
He did it once at Reading two years ago, once
at Lehigh Valley last year, and those are some seasons
where he struggled. So he's gonna have to figure out
what he needs to do to make those adjustments after
doing it against some high powered offense yesterday. But you
also look at the flip side he escaped that big jam,
got Kyle Tucker swinging at two curveballs to escape a
bases loaded jam to end his outing. I mean, there's
(13:49):
positives to take away, especially like the club specifically. Rob
Thompson talks a lot about what you said at the beginning.
You want to win series. If you can take two
or three every single time, if you're winning twenty six
to thirty of the series that you have in a season,
you're setting yourself up for success, and if you can
take these points to learn from them, that'll be a
big deal. So I think I'm not too worried about
(14:11):
make Abeles start yesterday. We need to see how he
responds in the next start.
Speaker 1 (14:15):
All right, speaking being worried, where are we at on
the Bryce Harper and Aaron Nola injuries? As far as
being worried, the word that I was able to get
last night was nothing that I wanted to write home about.
Somebody said to me, again, don't know what's true and
what's not. I'm not going to take this as gospel,
(14:35):
but I'm curious to know your thoughts that they wouldn't
be surprised if Harper is out to the All Star break.
Speaker 2 (14:42):
That would be a little surprising. I haven't heard that.
Speaker 3 (14:45):
Maybe it's a let's shut him down and let him recover,
because this isn't the first time that he's dealt with
the wrist injury.
Speaker 2 (14:51):
He dealt with it from May through August of last year.
He had some struggles in that time period.
Speaker 3 (14:56):
Obviously he had some hot streaks mixed in, but if
you remember when he ended up going sitting out for
a few games in August, the first time we ever
heard about the risk injury. He said it had been
bothering him since met excuse me, So it's a little
alarming that he's he has this recurring issue that didn't
do surgery in the offseason. He said he felt great
coming into the year. He tweaked it a little bit
(15:19):
before the elbow, and then the elbow exasperated a little bit.
So it's gonna just need some rest. I think the
injured list was the right move. The tough part for
me is managing him right. A lot of times you
need to manage superstars. He's a guy who wants to
be out there every single day. And if you know
about this risk, even if it's not public knowledge, if
you know internally about the risk issue, and then he
(15:40):
gets a ninety plus mile an hour fastball off the
elbow that has the same you know, the same side
of the body with the risk. To me, there was
a chance where maybe, yeah, he comes back and hits
that home run in Game one in Toronto, but maybe
they should have put him on the injured list a
little bit longer, a little bit earlier, let him sit out.
Speaker 2 (16:00):
I will tell on him.
Speaker 3 (16:01):
I had not heard about through the All Star breaks,
so that would be interesting to watch. They're going to
need some reinforcements, for sure, if that is the case.
But where those reinforcements come from, I don't know that.
They're not really big on pulling pulling the trigger on
an early trade under Don Browski at least, and there's
not really anybody high powered down in the miners that
(16:23):
isn't already up Matt Kemp was leading the team in
home runs, leading the International League in home runs, so
he's already up here. We'll have to see if he's
suddenly gets a power surge with the major league team.
But I think if he's out that long, there's some
concerns for sure, and you need to start thinking outside
the box. That maybe pulling the trigger on an earlier trade.
Speaker 1 (16:43):
All Star break July the fifteenth, going down in Atlanta,
they were able to get that back down there? Huh?
Speaker 2 (16:49):
I didn't know, I guess, so yeah, I mean they
what was it?
Speaker 3 (16:52):
They moved a few years ago because of some unrest
right sore. It is a big it's a nice stadium.
I know that they've eyed it up quite often for events,
so it makes sense that they're back there. I didn't
I didn't get into the minutia on what went into
those negotiations.
Speaker 1 (17:08):
No, we get twenty twenty six, baby, right here in Philadelphia,
which is going to be unbelievable. What a year. Hopefully
things calm down by then and we'll leave it at
boot hopefully, hopefully, hopefully. Yeah, we're all on the same
page with that one. All right, Aaron, Nola the latest there.
So before we get into Nola, just back to Harper
because that needs a little bit more emphasis here. Sorry
(17:29):
on that, Like you said, moves of course, and this
is one of the things that I wanted to get
into yesterday. We talked a little bit of yesterday with
Luke Arcaney. I wanted to ask you, like, what do
you want to see now the trade deadline? Of course,
we know that they're going to have to go out
there and make a move something I know over these
next couple of weeks you'll have to It will help
you determine whether you need a bat, whether you need
(17:50):
an outfielder, whether you need a picture, whatever it may be.
But you'll you'll find those those determining factors over these
next five weeks of play. Because the trade deadline is
until July thirty first, But like, now is the time
that could really take you out of a playoff race.
Now is the time that could trip you up. And
(18:12):
if you are able to turn in a five game
losing streak or nine out of ten into what the
losers are seventeen out of twenty, you don't know where
you're at right Teams could be playing better. Next thing
you know, you're fighting for a wild card spot. So like,
these next five six weeks are so important. So I
wanted to ask you today, and this was before I
heard the Harper news, like what did you want to
(18:33):
see from this team? What do you want to learn
from about this team over these next four to five weeks?
But man, with without Harper in the lineup. We just
did a show last week where he returned, and I
just was like, isn't it great when you get the
superstar back into your lineup a and then beat? What
Bryce Harper brings to the mental for this team inside
(18:54):
that locker room, that clubhouse, The calming factor that he
is just having Harper in the line at the field,
you know involved, and here he is possibly potentially out
for another month. Again, you all start breaking until July fifteenth.
We're looking at June eleventh right now, Kyle, So are
you concerned A and then B? What do you want
(19:16):
to learn? What do you want to see from the
Phillies over these next four to five weeks? Of course,
putting winning to the side.
Speaker 3 (19:24):
Yeah, I mean they need to stay steady. They need
to it's not winning, but they need to be in
every series. You can't have series we're losing the first
two games and you're trying to scramble to fix the
next one. I want to see some consistency in the bullpen,
but that's very unlikely. They've been changing a lot of
names recently. Carlos Fernandez just DFA either after yesterday's game
(19:45):
or this morning. Michael Mercatto hasn't been great at Triple A,
wasn't great in the little Tasty got last year.
Speaker 2 (19:51):
So obviously you want to see some bullpen consistency.
Speaker 3 (19:54):
But from the lineup while Harper's out, I want to
see someone, especially a right handed bat, step up in
a big way.
Speaker 2 (20:01):
Whether it's Alec Bowme.
Speaker 3 (20:02):
We saw what he's what he's done today, big game
from him, Nick Castianos, can he take it up a
notch He's been pretty consistent, but the slug hasn't really
been where you would want it to be with a
from a guy with his prowess.
Speaker 2 (20:15):
And then Ken j T pick it up a little bit.
One thing.
Speaker 3 (20:18):
I was doing a deep dive the other day, just
trying to look for something outside the box and talking
to my brother about.
Speaker 2 (20:25):
One of the things that they're good at. What are
the things are not good at.
Speaker 3 (20:27):
If you look specifically at how they do against left
handed pitching, they're in the upper echelon in almost every
category and left handed pitching, But when you split it
out and look at how they perform against left handed
starting pitchers, they're.
Speaker 2 (20:41):
Near the bottom of the league in every single category.
Speaker 3 (20:43):
They seem to really dominate a team's left handed reliever
who might not be their closer, but they really struggle.
You know in early season trums that they st struggled
against starters. One way you cannot struggle against the left
handed starter is by a right handed bat coming up
big and really dominating handers. So I'd really like to
see while he's out, who can take that next step
(21:05):
in their game. Can boone return to a guy who's
hitting three point thirty with runners and scoring position. Can
Castianos turn some of these singles into doubles? And I
don't mean where he's trying to stretch an obvious single
into a double thrown out and second like he did
the other night. I mean, can he take one that
floats in front of the right fielder and push it
down the line for a guaranteed double. Those are the
(21:25):
kind of the things that we want to see from him.
JT hasn't been hitting all that great in the last
about two weeks.
Speaker 2 (21:33):
He is hitting around two fifty.
Speaker 3 (21:35):
If you can hit consistently two fifty from him batting
in the second in the bottom half of the lineup.
Speaker 2 (21:40):
That gives you some additional depth.
Speaker 3 (21:42):
They're left handed heavy, so every time left hander's out there,
I mean, yeah, they've made some adjustment. They'll put at
Mundo Sosa out there, They'll put West and Wilson out there.
Speaker 2 (21:50):
But those guys have struggled. I'm more looking about the
everyday guys.
Speaker 3 (21:54):
Which one of the everyday guys who's not an appletude
is going to step up in a big way with
the superstar out.
Speaker 1 (22:00):
What great answer one and two? Yeah, everyday players that
is Nick castianis who uh, yesterday made history with the
two hundred and thirty first consecutive start and passed up
Jimmy Rawlins, which is crazy to believe, but I'm sure
he got a night off. Whatever it may be, Nick
cas two d and thirty one. This was according to
(22:22):
John Clark. That move makes him or moves him past
Jimmy Rollins. And now Nick has the longest streak for
the Phillies since Pete Rose back in the eighties played
three hundred and fifty games. So Pete Rose set the
market three point fifty, Cassidy, could he get there? Of course? Yeah, yeah,
we'll see exactly again he is. He is consistently playing,
(22:47):
that's for damn sure. I'd like I'd like to see
a little bit more pop out of that bat. What
does he have three home runs this year?
Speaker 3 (22:55):
I think it's only three though, all right, went off
the top of the fence, but triple Nonetheless.
Speaker 1 (23:01):
Yeah, I would like to see just a few more
home runs from Nick Castios. I think we'd be all
in agreement on that one. All right, Aaron Nola, how
concerned are you about? Aaron Nola?
Speaker 3 (23:10):
I'm a little concerned. You know that every time a
guy faces a setback. As a Philadelphia sports fan, all
of a sudden, I feel like the war the dog
with the War mean, thinking about the Sixers and how
every time someone got injured they ended up with a
different injury than what they started with. Yep, you know,
he goes on the injured list with the sprained ankle
(23:31):
and now he's dealing with a stress reaction in the ribcage.
He's not gonna throw for two weeks. Then he's got
to be built back up from there. I mean, their
depth is getting tested, and luckily Lozardo looked great today.
Speaker 2 (23:44):
Once again. They said that they found something in his
that he may have been tipping in the pit.
Speaker 1 (23:50):
Yeah yeah, but.
Speaker 3 (23:51):
Not only that. The thing that I liked it wasn't
just tipping pitches. They said they found something in the
data that would likely show on another team's game plan.
So if you're scouting him, you might see a pattern
or a certain thing that he does regularly that you
can wait and attack for when you're in that situation.
They apparently found something like that as well. So to
see him make those adjustments and come out strongly against
(24:13):
a good Cubs team today is promising. But their depth
is going to be tested, and again it's going to
be how does make Gabel respond? How does Andrew Painter respond?
He had a really rough outing yet today at Triple A.
How does he respond against tougher competition now that he's
moving his way through the ranks.
Speaker 2 (24:30):
You know, if Nola's going to be out into late.
Speaker 3 (24:33):
July early August, that's around the time where Andrew Painter
is expected to be ready. So if he doesn't respond,
now all of a sudden, you're looking at we have
five guys. The other two that we thought might add
some death aren't ready yet. Taiwan Walker's already even moved
to the bullpen full time, and you went from eight
guys to five guys in a couple of weeks. So yeah,
it's very concerning. We're gonna have to see how he
feels in those two weeks. It's if he can be
(24:56):
a weapon later in the year.
Speaker 2 (24:58):
Great.
Speaker 3 (24:58):
You know, hopefully you're playing strong enough and make able responds,
and Noah can almost be like an additional trade deadline grab,
obviously without having to give anything up, but to have
him come back after the deadline after making some other
moves would only add to their depth. Now just going
to be tested for a little bit and hopefully these
other guys can stay healthy.
Speaker 1 (25:17):
All right, once again seeing you know, the young guns
coming up and contributing like they did with Otto coming
in having three hits the other night. Of course, still
getting some pt. We'll see who else is going to
get an opportunity to shine. As we were just discussing
with Bryce Harper being on the mend for a little
bit more longer than what was expected Aaron Nola of course, mccabele.
(25:40):
Now that opens the door for him to continue and
hopefully get back on track after what took place last night.
And like you said about Lozardo, it's great to see
him go out there today and get back to those
first couple starts that he that you know, showed us, Like, dude,
how good is this guy? All right? You want to
say that the Philly gonna make a move all all
(26:01):
season long. Yeah, you discounted Bizardo and had ten strikeouts
today in six innings pitch, so more of that, of course,
And we did talk a little bit about the tipping
of the pitch. The Great Pitching Ninja has a good
breakdown on that one. So a great yeah, fantastic follow
one of the best, just a true diehard Trusika when
(26:23):
it comes to throwing Major League Baseball's all right, staying
in Major League baseball. Let's do this real quick. The
Padres manager is Mike Shilt. Is that how you say it?
I want to say his last name is. I apologize
if I'm getting it wrong. It just looked it up.
I think that's how you say it. Anyways, I'm gonna
play you a sound after last night's win over the
(26:46):
LA Dodgers and have a listen to this. We'll discuss
we had to say on their side.
Speaker 4 (26:50):
You know, rowat to THEX. I even right, I get
it completely. At the stadium is gonna be rocking. It's
gonna be fantastic. I appreciate the heightened awareness to what
likely's the best rivalry in baseball as far as what
they look for. You're gonna look to see good, hard
nosed baseball and us getting after it as as hard
as we can at every turn.
Speaker 1 (27:06):
Yeah. Sure, so he's the Padres manager. You got two
teams out there in the West that are doing really great.
Of course, we know the Dodgers that are living up
to those expectations when they spend bukuu amounts of money
and they're getting every you know, a big time player
slash pitcher in there. Of course they're dealing with injuries,
but oh hull home, you get one of the best
pictures to join your staff and show hey, Otani coming
(27:28):
up here soon. But last night was a great game
and it was all Padres. They're back at it again
this evening. And as you just heard, he said, it's
the best rivalry in Major League Baseball right now? Padres,
Padres and the Dodgers. Do we need to tell him
to pump the brakes just a little bit? Is there
a new king when it comes to Major League Baseball rivalries?
(27:52):
I'm not here to pour cold water on it because
I think it's a great series. It's one that I
stayed up for now two nights in a row, got
a right last night, my only win last night, and
went one and two. Bad job by me. But the
Padres and Dodgers. Is it possible that we are talking
about the best rivalry in baseball for your money?
Speaker 2 (28:13):
Best? I don't know about that.
Speaker 3 (28:15):
I mean, they're still Yankees, Red Sox, There're still Cubs, Cardinals,
and when both of those teams are good that they
are this year. That is I know that they're two
Midwest teams, but that is a huge rivalry to two
long standing franchises with a deep, deep fan base. Philly's
Mets is still very lively when we at the same time,
it's so good to watch, and he has them a
(28:35):
little biased on that being from Philadelphia, but I think
that you've seen the coverage nationally when those two teams
get together, whether it's ESPN or in the playoffs last season,
the coverage is nuts. Then content creators go crazy with
that rivalry. So seeing those guys face off is obviously big.
It's developing, for sure. I mean it's it's rare that
(28:55):
both of those teams have been really good at the
same time, and we're on like a five year run
where both teams are really good, Both teams are staying competitive,
making moves to stay relevant, making moves to stay competitive
each year. You have a good mix of veteran and
young talent, a lot of big names involved, so that helps,
you know, especially with the team with the league trying
(29:16):
to grow as much as they can right now, viewership
has been up so to really highlight and emphasize the
star players on both of those teams.
Speaker 2 (29:24):
I think it's definitely something they should lean into. Is
it definitely the best rivalry in Major League Baseball? I
don't think it's there quite yet.
Speaker 1 (29:32):
Yeah, I'm with you on that one. And you know,
I have no issues if you want to come out
and say it is. You're the coach of the manager
of the Padres and a big time win yesterday. Nice
work as far as Padres could turn. And that was
a be it down, which is always welcome when you
do take on the La Dodgers to knock them off
eleven to one. That was what we like to call
(29:54):
a no sweat winner on that one. It took a
little while to get there, but they continue to add run.
As far as the Padres bats were concerned. Now, it would,
you know, what's a fun game. That would be a
great rivalry if if the one team from the two
teams perspective would actually spend some money, maybe keep Paul
(30:15):
Skins and what they were able to do the Pirates.
It would be fun if the Pirates were actually worth
the damp and that turned into a little bit of
a Phillies, a little battle for the Commonwealth, the little
Phillies Pirates rivalry had Pirates haven't been good in decades.
I know that they had a little bit of a
playoff run, but still like this, No, it's a bad franchise.
(30:37):
It's a it's not even a pretending franchise. Skeens is
probably counting down the days to get the hell out
of Pittsburgh, which is a shame because he's one of
the best pictures, if not the best pitcher in the game.
But it's reality, and it would be interesting if they
were actually able to turn in and be a good
franchise from a rivalry perspective in state.
Speaker 2 (30:58):
Yeah, that would be fun.
Speaker 3 (31:00):
I just I don't understand the ownership there. They had
this beautiful stadium, beautiful backdrop. I know so many people
who love the city of Pittsburgh. It's an easy flight,
it's a fun drive if you.
Speaker 2 (31:11):
Have a group going.
Speaker 3 (31:12):
It's long, but it's fun. That could be a great
rivalry for years to come. They're so young, but they
refuse to spend any money.
Speaker 2 (31:19):
To add to add long term talent around.
Speaker 3 (31:22):
I mean, they did make some moves right, it was
Mitch Keller and Brian Reynolds. They signed to longer term deals,
probably undermarket value at the time. But now that one
of them is really paid off, like you would hope,
you'd think that with Paul Skins and Bubba Chandler is
the next guy who they're going to go to shortly,
I would think that they would want to start investing
in some veterans.
Speaker 2 (31:42):
So maybe that changes this offseason, but their track record
wouldn't say otherwise.
Speaker 3 (31:46):
I wouldn't hold my breath if I was a Pirates
fan waiting for them to get competitive, But man, it
would be a fun rivalry.
Speaker 2 (31:52):
And we saw do you remember.
Speaker 3 (31:53):
How electric that stadium was and those broadcasts were back
in twenty fifteen and Cutches first go around with them,
they made the playoffs.
Speaker 2 (32:01):
That was so much fun to watch to see that
stadium bumping the way that it should be.
Speaker 3 (32:05):
So obviously that would be exciting, but I'm not waiting
for it to happen anytime, so.
Speaker 1 (32:09):
That it has been so long. When did they have
the All Star Game out there?
Speaker 3 (32:13):
I don't remember when the when the All Star Game was.
Speaker 1 (32:16):
Wasn't that Ryan Howard was in the home run derby
out there? I think Peter Alons am I am I
tripping on that Pirates All Star Game year? Yeah, Look
it's like you said, it starts and ends with that
that stadium. It's one of the best stadiums in all
of baseball. And you know, when it comes to a
team that just has not been able to put it
(32:38):
together for whatever reason and management, ownership, whatever, pirates are
at the top of that list, and it's unfortunate. Like
I said, it's in state, and if they weren't able
to raise it up a little bit, that would be
a reason to go ahead and make the trip out there.
Quick little trip. Lot going out in Pittsburgh this weekend
to US Open.
Speaker 2 (32:58):
A lot going on out there. But yeah, you were
right by the way. That was the Ryan Howard won
the and was the starting second basement.
Speaker 1 (33:07):
Have you ever had it like the.
Speaker 2 (33:09):
Year but still a fun year for Philly?
Speaker 1 (33:11):
Have you ever had a Primanny Brothers sandwich? Me? Neither
saw them today on the US Open coverage. Saw them
today early morning Permanny Brothers bite. And I'll tell you
what those guys, uh, I'm sure they had a good
little you know, chomp at it. But at the end, man,
if you eat one of those mixed in with some coffee,
(33:34):
I think I know your next destination. We'll just leave
it at that.
Speaker 2 (33:37):
Yes, you better have your body well trained.
Speaker 1 (33:42):
All right, let's keep it moving here. Hey, let's talk
some football, Kyle, what do you say? I know we
got an NBA Finals game coming up tonight. Okay, see
five and a half two twenty seven and a half.
We're doing the Wheel of misfortune. But I want to
talk about some franchises that like to pretend that they're
actually run well. And at the top of that list,
I'm starting to wonder whether or not that people are
(34:04):
pulling the sheet up, you know, and like we need
to look at the Steelers a little bit differently. And
you know, I love Mike Tomlin, great coach. Everything that
you know, we already know what's going to be said
was record. But man, when we talk about the quarterback situation,
the most important position in all of sports, I think
they have butchered it. And then so we do have
a lot of other things to get to. Oh, by
(34:26):
the way, Kyle does some great work for the folks
over at CBS Sports, And I'm looking at an article
right now and awful announcing the NFL today to travel
on location and select weeks starting week one at lambeau Field.
CBS NFL pregame show hitting the road this season. That's
(34:46):
pretty cool. They should hit the road, make them boys
get out there in the cold.
Speaker 3 (34:51):
They've only done it a little bit, but it was
a lot of fun, great environment both like we felt
the excitement, fans felt the excitement.
Speaker 2 (34:58):
So that'll be good to get the boys out there
more often.
Speaker 1 (35:01):
And you know, it's September sevenths, not exactly cold, but
I like it. I like it when you know you
get further down the road in the season and you
know what, you gotta get the hand warmers out there.
You gotta deal with the elements. Now. I always when
I think of CBS halftime shows or pregame shows, you
know where I'm going. I think of that time, what
was it the Kansas City Chiefs in Buffalo Bill's playoff
(35:22):
game and the band was playing at halftime and Boomer
and those guys couldn't even hear each other, like I
can't hear I think that.
Speaker 2 (35:31):
I think it was Baltimore. I don't think it was Buffalo.
I think it was Baltimore.
Speaker 1 (35:35):
Oh man, I thought it was actually in Kansas City.
What to look that one up? But still just fantastic,
And that's live television. And look when you got Nate
Nate Burleson out there, JB coach, Bill Kauer. It's a
great lineup, man, So get those guys out there. People
love to see it. CBS has some really good people
over there. All right, let's keep it moving other side,
over to the NFL. I want to talk to you
(35:57):
about how bad the situation is down in Atlanta. You
want to talk about butchering quarterback spots. They did exactly
that by saying Kirk Cousins last year and drafting Michael
Pennock's junor we'll talk a little bit more about that situation.
Stefan Diggs addressed the boat video, got some sound on
that one, and Rogers playing with Tomlin and Pittsburgh good
(36:19):
move or not. We'll discuss it all on the other side.
Kyle Fisher hanging with me. Roy Burton will join me
at four o'clock talk a little fantasy football. Don't go
any more of this
