Speaker 1 (00:00):
Ladies, a job with boys and girls. It is time
to ride the sports carousel. Joining me on this wonderful day.
Here a brand new daily ticket coming your way. Mark
Henry Junior, host of the Tough Cover radio show, heard
every Saturday on The Gambler. How about CBS Sports rolling
(00:23):
out Claudia Bellafonte. Do you know who she is?
Speaker 2 (00:26):
Mark every Junior, I'm aware. I'm sure Beef. I'm sure
Beef knows Claudia.
Speaker 1 (00:30):
Claudia. I exchanged messages with her a long time ago
when she was just getting into the business. She's had
a million to one jobs, I feel like, but now
on CBS Sports breaking down giants and cowboys on my screen.
Very good at what she does, very a good hire
by anybody. But nice girl too as well. I just
(00:52):
want to put that out there. And she's on my
television screen for the first time. Oh a great way
to start the show. Let's go, Mark every Junior. We
got a lot to get into. Forty forty five minutes
NFL Week two deep dive on the Eagles and Chiefs
and college football. Wow, do we have some great games
like we? I know every week you probably have like
(01:14):
one or two. I could point the five and that's
under selling it. That are going to be bangers. So
I can't wait to get your thoughts on all. But
I want to open up with this Mike and Mike,
Mike and Mike, Mike Greenberg. He brought up Mike and
Mike today, So that's why I was on my head,
on my mind. There was a good stat on get up,
(01:35):
and they're always good with these trends and then you know,
you can say it one year and then be like, oh,
that was a good put that on the shelf for
next year. And what it was was teams that start
oh and two. There's been four teams in the history
of the NFL that have started ZHO and two that
have made the Super Bowl. Three out of those four
(01:55):
teams have won the Super Bowl, Great Dallas Cowboy team
in ninety three, one the Patriots teams uh that Brady
ended up winning it with, and the Giants with Eli
Manning started ohing too the year that they beat the Patriots.
Crazy to think that, but as we look here right now,
knowing what our guesses were heading into the season and
(02:18):
right hand of the air, I had the Ravens in
the Super Bowl. I'm sure people were selling the Lions
in the Super Bowl. We can go down the list
of all the great teams that have opened up on two,
the one the Chiefs. Who's in trouble? Mark, as you're
looking at the week two card right now, who is
starting oh and two in your mind?
Speaker 3 (02:38):
H that's a good question. Let me take a look here.
I'll go off the board a little bit. You know what, No,
I won't go off the board. Let's keep it on
them now, you know what, Let's go off the board.
Speaker 2 (02:51):
Audible, audible all the way to Monday night football.
Speaker 3 (02:55):
I'll go all the way, skip past the whole weekend,
and I'll go I guess there's two more than football games.
Speaker 2 (03:00):
It's not the last game of the week.
Speaker 3 (03:02):
But one of the two minion my football games. And
it's the spread that has shocked me the most. And
I said all week last week, I bet every game
in Week one because in part because I didn't have
one game or one bet that I was in love
with that I was like, you know what, this is
a five unit play for me. If you pay attention
to my plays, five units is usually like a that's
(03:22):
the best bet on a usual Saturday or a Sunday.
Speaker 2 (03:25):
And last week I think my biggest bet was two units.
It was the Raiders.
Speaker 3 (03:28):
I had nothing I loved, but a lot of plays
I liked a little bit. I'm back this week with
a couple of plays I really love, and the number
one play for the whole weekend is the Tampa Bay
Buccaneers plus two and a half after Houston Texans. It
is unfathomable to me that the Houston Texans are favored
in this game after the offensive performance they had against
(03:49):
the La Rams. That offensive line, I don't think they
could block a defensive line put together of the Gambler.
You throw, you throw Tanzy out there, maybe you, maybe Roy,
maybe Beef.
Speaker 2 (04:01):
I think we're taking care of business. I think we're
getting to the quarterback.
Speaker 3 (04:04):
So I think that Texans oh line is disqualifyingly bad.
If I were to have a mulligan on maybe any
singular prediction, I picked the Texans to go nine to
eight and win that division. And it's mainly because I
couldn't get behind the Colts with Daniel Jones, I couldn't
get behind the Jags. I felt like, in lieu of
(04:26):
filling a lot of holes, they went with the sexy
Travis Hunter thing, which, by the way, I feel like
a little justified with the anti Travis Hunter things do
played six snaps on defense and we spent the whole
off season talking about him. I predicted that will quickly
stop being a hot button conversation that leads national sports shows.
But anyway, I couldn't get behind the Jags or the
(04:48):
Colts after Week one. Am I telling you the Jags
are legit or the Colts are legit?
Speaker 1 (04:53):
No?
Speaker 2 (04:53):
But what I am telling you that is that the
Texans OH.
Speaker 3 (04:55):
Line is disqualifyingly bad, and that one of those teams
are going to overcome the texts even if they get
win eight, nine, ten games. I don't think any of
the teams in the South are going to be any good.
But I love Tampa to get Houston off to an
ozho and two start. And if you look at the
Texans schedule, it is you're looking at a team that
(05:16):
I think could pretty easily be sitting two and six,
three and six in week eight, week nine, just just
going over it. You have the Bucks at home. This
is very uh you mentioned Mike and Mike. This is
very France and Mike and the mad Dog a little bit.
That's a lost dog, but a dog, I don't know dog.
But you have at the Bucks at home at Jags.
(05:39):
We'll see if the Jags are competent, Titans at home,
that should be a win. We're at Ravens at Seattle,
San Fran at home, Denver at home, Jacksonville at home.
I mean, you still have some more tough ones in there.
The Bills come a couple weeks later, the Chiefs come
a couple weeks later, the Chargers come a couple weeks later.
But that seven or eight games stretch, you know, road
(06:00):
games in Baltimore, Seattle, road game in Jacksonville, and your
home matchups are Tampa. You got San Fran who might
be pretty good.
Speaker 2 (06:09):
Denver.
Speaker 3 (06:10):
I'm not as high on them, but seem you know
a lot of people are pretty high on them out there.
If the Jags are halfway competent, that's a tough, tough
eight nine games to open your season for Houston.
Speaker 2 (06:21):
And I'm all in fade in the Texans.
Speaker 1 (06:24):
What's your read on the Jags. I'm curious. I know
that it was the Panthers. Panthers are awful, but I
did have you know, look, mister Duvall himself, you got
a new coach. I think he was pretty good with
the Tampa Bay Bucks as the offensive coordinator, So I thought,
you know what, Trevor Lawrence. I've been pumping him up
since he was brought out. I believe in Trevor Lawrence.
Why not the Jags this year? And I took him
(06:46):
to win the division again one winning Carolina Panthers. I
will say this much, I am intrigued by the Colts
too in that division right now. That might be an overreaction,
but what is your read so far on the Jags.
Speaker 3 (06:57):
Yeah, it's really who you decide to between the Jacks
and the Colts right now. To pick that to win
that division comes a lot based on who you take
more seriously out of Carolina over Miami, because both teams
win in a pretty convincing fashion Against two teams I
expect to be picking top five, I would probably lean
towards saying Carolina is more competent than Miami. And I'd
(07:20):
probably lean towards saying that what Jacksonville did in Week
one is probably a bit more repeatable.
Speaker 2 (07:25):
Than what Indianapolis did in Week one.
Speaker 3 (07:29):
Jacksonville has more talent on the roster, I'd say in India,
I buy Trevor over Dangle Jones, which is a funny
wit thing to say. But like you said, Liam Cohen
did a great job in Tampa. And the biggest thing,
my biggest takeaway from Jacksonville in Week one, Travis Etn
two years ago was a top five, top seven fantasy
(07:50):
running back. I have to go look at the scoring
leaders at the end of the year, but he was
unbelievable two years ago. Caught a lot of balls out
of the backfield, and in Week one he went off.
You be spent all off season? Is it Etn? Is
it bigs b is it tooting? Bigs be traded by Tuesday?
Speaker 1 (08:06):
You know?
Speaker 3 (08:06):
And you have Etn going off in week one. And
what you saw Liam Cohen do last year is he
picked Bucky Irving in the what I don't know, the
fifth round for Tampa and he year one was, you know,
one of the ten most efficient running backs in the sport.
I think he's got great run game concepts. I think
he coaches up the O line well, or whoever he
has is his O line coach coaches up the O
(08:29):
line well.
Speaker 2 (08:30):
And I think that the Jacksonville, if.
Speaker 3 (08:32):
Jacksonville can run the ball like that, and you get
twenty twenty three Travis etn then that's a really interesting offense.
Speaker 1 (08:39):
Plus twenty five to win the South for the Jags
plus twenty twenty five for the Texans. Forgive me both
tied at the top to win the division the Colts
plus two sixty Titans plus eight fifty. Good luck on
that one with Tennessee. All right. You know, look, it
is an interesting conversation with that division based off of,
like you said, the success that both of those two
(09:00):
has had in Week one. I'm with you on the
Texans and Bucks. I can't back the Texans. I think
that there will be a little bit more buzz in
the building they're returning home. I think that defense is
the truth. I think it could keep them in there.
I think maybe Tampa Bay could be a little bit
Liam Cohane, Liam Cone no longer there, so I think
that could be working out some kinks. I thought that
(09:21):
victory gets the Landam Falcons told us a little something
on the road, but people could pick that apart. It's
week one. Can't get too crazy here. But definitely with
you on that Monday night game between the Texans and
the Bucks.
Speaker 3 (09:33):
And you mentioned that right there, and I think it's
a good segue just to the Sunday night game, which
is probably my second favorite bet of the week.
Speaker 2 (09:40):
I like the Falcons.
Speaker 3 (09:41):
Give me the Falcons plus four and a half over
NFC Offensive Player of the Week JJ McCarthy, nonpa for
drop back.
Speaker 2 (09:49):
He won that award, won the award.
Speaker 3 (09:51):
Won NFC Offensive Player of the Week the way, and
I'm buysed. I fell asleep a half time and caught
the game in a condensed game for him the next day.
Speaker 2 (10:00):
I need I'm washed up.
Speaker 3 (10:01):
But maybe so I feel a little bit differently than
maybe if you rode the live roller coaster and you
felt JJ come back in the second half. Me watching
the way the game the way that I watched it,
watching the tape, and then listening to everybody talk about
JJ McCarthy, I swear I watched two different games, like
I swear I watched someone different than everybody else watched.
(10:24):
When it comes to JJ, so and I will say,
you look at the koc Era in Minnesota. It's been
littered with short it's been littered with close victories. They
win one score games like it's nothing. They win games
on field goals, games by three points all the time.
Speaker 2 (10:39):
You go look through the Kirk era into the last
into last year they won.
Speaker 3 (10:43):
I went, I think they went nine to one in
one score games with Sam Darnold last year, and I
think that tells you give me plus four and a
half Atlanta. My take on the Tampa Bay Atlanta game
is I walked out feeling like both those teams are good,
and I walked out feeling like Atlanta's a playoff team.
Speaker 2 (10:57):
I think Ennox is legit.
Speaker 3 (10:59):
I think the defense it's hell really tough against a
really good Bucks team. And then at the end of
the game, what does Baker Mayfield do? He makes plays
when the game's on the line. I think we've seen
that now in his Tampa tenure, that when you know
two minutes left and you know he has.
Speaker 2 (11:12):
To go get a touchdown, has to goet a field goal, whatever.
Speaker 3 (11:14):
It is, not many guys in the league I want
having the ball over Baker. So I tell you Atlanta
outplayed Tampa and maybe impressed me more than Tampa in
the game. At the end of the day, Baker and
Tampa found a way to get the job done and
win the game.
Speaker 1 (11:30):
There was a Drake C.
Speaker 3 (11:31):
London probably scored a touchdown in the NFL couldn't get
a camera angle on the ball and they called it
and complete. I think it was probably a touchdown. The
end up getting a field goal there, and that definitely
changed the game a little bit. So you could say,
you know, Atlanta scores that touchdown, Atlanta wins the game,
and maybe I'm not feeling as good about Tampa. I'm
feeling great about both Tampa and Atlanta, and I think
both teams make the playoffs this year. So my two
(11:54):
favorite bets of the week Tampa Atlanta.
Speaker 1 (11:56):
I like that, And there's so much to chew on there.
First and foremost, that's surprising about J J. McCarthy winning
the award, I forgive you would have to go down
the list and see who exactly did what. It's mark
the NFC is concerned on the offensive side of the ball.
I would say Jordan Love looked a little like I
think he looked better. I think he played better. I'd
say Brock Purty looked pretty good too. At Stafford.
Speaker 3 (12:23):
Jalen Hurts, Yeah, that's pretty good.
Speaker 1 (12:29):
J J. McCarthy, dude, he he all right, he played
a good quarter. I'll give him that, And it was
something to really give him a lot of credit on
for for a struggling the way that they he did
and then to bounce back and turn around and win
the game. Chicago Bears, obviously that's a roster filled with
some holes, especially on the defense side of the ball.
It's a brand new head coach out there. They did
(12:51):
put it on the platter for the vikings. He made plays.
He didn't throw the ball far down the field. There
was a lot of like checkdown stuff that wasn't taking shots.
He had the two touchdown passes, So I'll give him
the credit on that one. But wow, all right, Awards.
Speaker 3 (13:05):
I'll tell you what if we're going to just Offensive
Player of the Week and we're saying, you know, made
a big play in an important moment, how to come back,
and everyone to say, give.
Speaker 1 (13:13):
Me a mech egg Buka, there you go.
Speaker 3 (13:14):
We're catching sixty seven yards two touchdowns, like called his shot,
said get me the ball and on a post and
I'll win the game. When you have Mike Evans in
the huddle, you got the guys of Psycho to have
the confidence to come back and tell your quarterback, please
call this play. They do it, and you score a touchdown,
that's your second of the day that wins the game.
(13:35):
I think Guka if over jj if I just off
the top of my head.
Speaker 1 (13:40):
Yeah, look, you're gonna have to really if you're playing
the Tampa Bay Bucks, you know it could It's going
to free up Mike Evans eventually. So if you want
to focus on Evans right now, Buka's gonna make your
pay over the top as he did in that game.
I think they ran that same play two times and
both times the safety could not get to the ball.
I believe Baker was saying after the game, But you know,
(14:02):
Mike Evans eventually, they're gonna say, all right, we got
to cover the kid, and Mike Evan's gonna eat. So
that's a really pick your poison. As far as the
Bucks are concerned, a lot of conversation to get the
party started here on a daily ticket mark every junior
on all things. It feels like the NFC South. Let's
keep it moving though. As far as the Eagles, right,
(14:22):
I like that. Let's talk about the Eagles though, And
you know, going into this game, obviously the Eagles they won.
Wasn't the pitch a perfect game that we all wanted
to see where they cover the number. And it's a
twenty five point victory and it felt like last year. No,
but it was a week one win over to Dallas Cowboy's.
(14:43):
We talked about that on Friday. Then the Chiefs play
Friday night and that was an ugly, ugly game. Worthy
gets hurt. They're already dealing with the suspension with Rice,
They're dealing with the lot going on that the offensive tackle,
the rookie was struggling. So there's a lot to fix
in a one week. But it's the Kids City Chiefs
and that number as flip flop mark. The Chiefs were
(15:05):
favored pretty high as far as the look aheadline before
they played Thursday and Friday, and then now you get
the Eagles at minus a point and a half, so
yesterday was at a half a point money continue to
coming down to Eagles. Where are you at on this
one right now? What does your read on the Kids
City Chiefs? Can they fix their problems in one week?
Speaker 2 (15:24):
No?
Speaker 3 (15:24):
Not this week, Not against the Eagles, I don't think,
and you know, not against an Eagles scene that has
a day of extra rest on them. Not against the
Eagles team that isn't traveling back from Brazil.
Speaker 2 (15:36):
Like they are.
Speaker 3 (15:37):
And yeah, I just you know, you could throw all
the the home stats you want out there, about all
the games that he's won, or about all the times
that he you know, has been a home dog. It's
one He's been a home dog one time. He did
lose as a home dog that one time. But Jalen
Hurts and AJ Brown when they both play are three
(16:00):
and seven when they both start and finish the game.
Forty four and eleven in games that AJ Brown plays
in general. And I expect a big AJ Brown day
after last week, after not being used at all until
the end of the game to ice the game, Nick
uses him as kind of the the rallying cry. I
guess in the in the in the meetings with his
(16:21):
team where he's talking about he stayed locked in all
that stuff.
Speaker 2 (16:24):
I think they reward AJ. I think AJ has a
big day.
Speaker 3 (16:27):
But all that to say, forty three and seven over
the last four years, when their quarterback and star receiver
both play in a game, that's unbelievable.
Speaker 1 (16:37):
Yeah that is, And you're exactly right. Look, I think
Nick Sirianni knows what he needs to do to keep
everybody cool. Even though it's week one, Aj as much
as they won the game, and he can say all
the right things, you know, he's got to get the
ball a little bit more than that. He's too good
of a player to only touch it that many times.
But then again, like, was he still dealing with a
(16:57):
little bit of an injury? Right? Like I didn't watch
the take. If I'm not one of those guys that
do the eye in the sky stuff, plenty of people do,
so I do, you know, look at what everybody else
is breaking down, But what did you see as far
as d Aj Brown. Obviously Jalen Hurts let the game
come to him. Dallas, is there a little bit more credit?
It was week one, But was there anything as far
as AJ's getting off the line, Maybe a little bit slower,
(17:20):
and he was dealing with an injury in the offseat
or in training camp.
Speaker 3 (17:23):
I know Shane haf thinks, so, so I'll defer to
him and saying maybe he is dealing with something. I
think if he was dealing with something that bad, he
wouldn't be out there. So I think he's probably gonna
struggle with like you know, dig routes and things like
that and quick cuts maybe, so maybe let's not ask
him to do it, let's run him on slants to
thrown him on on go routes. You know, I would
(17:47):
say that even if he is slow in certain ways
getting getting out of routes, I think there's still a
lot of ways you can use aj as more than
just a decoy. So I think there are people who
think that out there. I'm less concerned about that. I'd
say personally, all right, good stuff there.
Speaker 1 (18:04):
Yeah, the Chiefs, Look, we know that they're going to
be ready to play. They can't wait to get back home,
and I do expect a much better performance Worthy. What's
the latest with Xavier Worthy? Do you expect him to
be in there? And what type of difference did that
make in the game? Because I look at it from
I thought Worthy would be the guy this year. I
thought Kelsey would be a little bit long in the
(18:25):
two time to move on to a point of course,
like I said, we brought up the suspension, so they're
trying to figure things out. Hollywood Brown never really jumped
up the page of me process elimination. They don't have
a run game. I thought Xavier Worthy would have been
the guy that Andy Reid would have tried to force
the ball to get him involved as much as possible
out of the backfield, swing routes, whatever it may be.
(18:45):
And then he's gone four plays in what type of
factor did I him have in the game? And if
he's able to go on Sunday versus the Eagles, do
you think that changes a hold a whole lot for the.
Speaker 2 (18:56):
Chiefs in this game? I'd say no.
Speaker 3 (19:00):
I think the fanjo is so good at limiting explosive plays,
and that's that's what Xavier Worthy does.
Speaker 2 (19:06):
It's pretty much all explosive plays.
Speaker 3 (19:09):
So I would say in this matchup, I'm not as
worried about it, but I don't think he's playing.
Speaker 2 (19:13):
Maybe I'm maybe I'm off there.
Speaker 3 (19:15):
I saw Chiefs fans like celebrating that they didn't put
him on the I R, which you know that means
they think he's going to be back in less than
four to six weeks, and they were celebrating that. So
I would guess he's not out there, and I would
guess you're getting a whole lot of Hollywood Brown and
Travis Kelcey.
Speaker 1 (19:32):
Kelsey opened up on the New Heights podcast co hosted
by his brother Jason Can I can I say something
that's probably not going to be liked.
Speaker 2 (19:41):
Uh uh? Not a fan.
Speaker 1 (19:45):
I don't think Jason Kelsey is all that good on camera.
Speaker 2 (19:49):
I think he's pretty.
Speaker 1 (19:50):
Good, all right. I think there are moments where you
should use them, but I think they're forcing them too much.
How about that.
Speaker 3 (19:58):
I think a lot of people feel that way. Maybe
I'm biased for not feeling that way, but I I
just I think he's I think he's incredibly like, I'm
very relatable.
Speaker 1 (20:10):
Okay, that's an interesting way of looking at it. You're right,
you're not wrong on that. This They did the whole
deal where he's doing the concession stand, and it's just
he didn't feel comfortable.
Speaker 3 (20:22):
And I know, like, all right, I didn't watch Monday,
I didn't watch Countdown much.
Speaker 2 (20:26):
I'll be honest.
Speaker 1 (20:27):
All right, Well that's where it hit me, and I'm
just like, I don't know, Just put Jason like he
was reading a script. He was doing highlights and he
was reading a script. And I get it, it takes time,
but like, yo, let let you know, put him in
a comfortable position. Just let Jason Kelcey be Jason Kelsey
(20:47):
and don't make him into Stuart Scott. All right, he's
not doing highlights. Don't make them do that.
Speaker 3 (20:52):
I don't think you're alone. Like did that Late night
show he was doing just like go away. Yeah yeah,
I was like a thing and it just just run away.
Speaker 1 (21:02):
Yeah, And and I guess that I should change my stance.
My stance is just put him in the spots that
you know, Jason Kelsey's going to excel. Put him in
you know what you need to do. Put him, give
him a microphone and walk him into the parking lot,
cut to the to him in the crowd. How about
here right like, that's that's Jason Kelcey. Yes, more of that.
Let's not make him into like the the the the anchor,
(21:25):
you know, like that's what you got Scott Van Pelt for.
But yeah, of course we love Jason kelce Sorry, yet
we changed my stance. Ke all right, Uh, well, like I
was saying about Travis Kelcey, he said that it was
his fault and quote, I ran into one of my
guys and off him out of the game. I literally
(21:45):
took out one of my took one of my players out.
That's one of the most frustrating parts. And it's hard
to get your choices going, uh back going, knowing you
just heard a guy close quote. So yeah, he was
feeling it after he ran into him. Uh he said,
I'm supposed to be running my route debt for Worthy,
so it's frustrating to me. I was trying to get
kind of set up. My guy was able to get
(22:05):
into position. It all just happened pretty quick, it did. Man,
that was an explosive collision where I don't I was.
I thought Worthy was just going to combust, just like
bones everywhere.
Speaker 3 (22:18):
That's after she Rice got taken out by my homes
last year.
Speaker 1 (22:21):
Oh wow, completely forgot about that too. All Right. The
big news, obviously is Jalen Carter in the mix. We
know that that is going to be something to watch
because he is going to be pissed off. He's going
to be rested, ready to go prove everybody that had
anything bad to say about him wrong. And oh, by
the way, it's an offensive line that struggled against the Chargers.
(22:44):
Jalen Carter's going to eat true or false this week.
Speaker 3 (22:48):
It's true anytime anytime he's out there, he's making a huge,
huge difference, even if he's not getting.
Speaker 2 (22:55):
The sack totals. Or the tackles for loss.
Speaker 3 (22:57):
He's what he's opening up for everybody else on that
defensive line, like we saw for the guys who got
paid off of what they did next to Jalen Carter
last year, and like we saw with Nolan Smith having
ten and a half sacks or the last twelve games
last year, and everything we saw from that that blitz.
It's like, it's why I was so not worried about
anything I saw on defense in Week one, because you
(23:19):
take any team's best defensive player out without any planning
before the game and just pluck them out of the
game plan.
Speaker 2 (23:27):
I think any.
Speaker 3 (23:27):
Defense is going to struggle, especially when it's out a
position as important as defensive tackle, especially when you have
a guy like Jalen Carter who makes that position as
important as it can be when he terrorizes the pass
rush and is so integral to.
Speaker 2 (23:39):
Stopping the run.
Speaker 3 (23:41):
So that's another thing I'll say is we saw Javonte
Williams in a bad Cowboys running back room do pretty
well against the Eagles. I would not expect that this week,
especially from a Chiefs team last week that maybe the
only late less talented running back room in all of
football that than Dallas's Kansas City and what we what
(24:03):
we saw them do last week was completely abandoned the
running game, I know. But Checko had five carries, Kareem
Hunt had five carries, Worthy one. They had ten total
running back carries last week in a close game, not
a game that they were being blown out of or
anything like that and had to throw from behind.
Speaker 2 (24:19):
That was mostly a close game.
Speaker 3 (24:20):
So yeah, I would say I would not worry too
much about the running game of Kansas City. I would
worry about them attacking a Dori Jackson wherever they can
find him.
Speaker 1 (24:30):
All Right, I want to hit a little bit of
the card. Is there a player that you wanted people
to pick up? As far as the waiver wire, was
there one player when you logged on Monday or Tuesday
morning waivers went through this morning that you had to
have that you recommended for people out there. I actually
was saying Hollywood Brown, not specifically, not specific to this week. Obviously,
(24:52):
it's a tough matchup. It was a pretty good corn
well one's a good cornerback. We'll see what happens how
they come about it this weekend. But Hollywood Brown was
probably the one guy that I was looking at. Was
there one guy that you were aiming that you were
targeting for.
Speaker 3 (25:04):
Yeah, he's the only guy he's owned in all my leagues, unfortunately,
and i own him in quite a few leagues.
Speaker 2 (25:10):
So I'm happy about that.
Speaker 3 (25:11):
But I I I'm not really a Quinton Johnston guy.
There's gonna be so many mouths to feed there. You
have Keenan Allen who had a lot of targets. Actually,
Trey Harris is a rookie, had a nice catch, didn't
play that much. They have another rookie who they want
to play and call Gary Lambert Smith and quit like
lat McConkie's gonna get his and Omarion Hampton.
Speaker 2 (25:30):
I think we'll get some targets out of the backfield.
Speaker 3 (25:32):
So Quentin Johnston, I've seen the story before, Like, I
don't think we I don't think Quentin Johnson just broke
out all of a sudden. I think he had a
good game. So I'm trying to think who I saw.
Harold Fannon was a guy who people were freaking out about.
Another guy like I don't want like the fourth option
in the Browns offense behind like Jerry Judy and David
and Joku and Cedric Tillman and then the oh yeah,
(25:54):
there's Harold Fann in the second tight end, Like I'm
probably good on that. I saw some Kenny game well loved.
Speaker 1 (26:01):
Yes, that was me. That was me this morning.
Speaker 3 (26:05):
I'm kind of now of the mindset that I just
think I don't want any of the running backs for
the Steelers, Like I don't know, I'm throwing my hands up.
I have so much Caleb Johnson in some of these leagues.
He looked horrible in a week one and only like
he only had one rush and he was a negative
one and he I think he got blown up on
pass protection the one time he was out there. Just
(26:25):
I thought, you know, Jalen Warren has never had I
think I don't.
Speaker 2 (26:29):
Know if he did this week.
Speaker 3 (26:30):
I know before this week he'd never had more than
fifteen touches in a game. So I just felt like
if he, if he was the guy, I thought Pittsburgh
would have made him the guy one of these past
couple of years, and they hadn't, so I thought maybe
the guy they took on Day two, Caleb Johnson would
step into that role. You have gain Well, I think
there's just too many guys. You almost need someone to
get hurt and then they figure it out from there.
Speaker 2 (26:49):
But I'm not in love with any of the waiver wire.
The only big waiver.
Speaker 3 (26:53):
Moves I made were just defense streaming San Fran playing
New Orleans, the Rams are playing Tennessee.
Speaker 2 (26:59):
Those are some good, some good streaming defenses. I like that.
Speaker 1 (27:02):
What about as far as if I asked you for
a quarterback in week two, people will be looking at
DFS leagues They're like, all right, Sunday morning, I gotta
fill out my lineup. Is there a quarterback that you're
looking at that you think is absolutely going to light
it up this week?
Speaker 3 (27:19):
It's absolutely. You have to just with the values of it.
And it's why I tripled my money in DFS last week.
I'm not very good at DFS and had a good
week last week, but justin fields, he's being valued as
like the twentieth best quarterback and he's a top ten
fantasy quarterback even against Buffalo, absolutely, because I think there's
a chance Buffalo scores a lot and they're thrown from
behind and they're running from behind. But I mean, just
(27:41):
to get to the car, I will say give me
Jack plus seven there, So that goes one thing there.
I think it's a leftdown game and that Bill's defense
did just get against Baltimore, and I had Lamar running
against it as well. You can see the same with
Fields again, So I would say Fields is a must.
I have two DFS lineups I've already put in. Both
(28:01):
have Justin Fields in it.
Speaker 1 (28:03):
You need to get we need to get you a
Justin Fields jersey because you have been, you have been
his number one supported as off season, all strictly fantasy.
I think you did. You did try to sell the
Jets a little bit. Don't get me wrong in that.
Speaker 2 (28:15):
I bet week he cashed. They cashed the spread.
Speaker 3 (28:18):
They did not win the game. And the saddest part
is good good on Garon Glenn. They cut I think
his name is Quinn Shawn Gibson, Gibson or whatever it is.
He fumbled the kickoff. The kickoff and if he did
not fumble that kickoff, Justin Fields is the story of
Week one. We're all talking about, Oh my god, what
an amazing redemption. Justin Field's revenge game against Pittsburgh. They
(28:41):
didn't want to be the starter, and there he goes
and beats them. But instead we have you know, Aaron
Rodgers smug you know what, you know, getting the brag
on the dais instead.
Speaker 1 (28:53):
But I throw four touchdowns, no picks, and did take
a bunch of hits. He he's allowed, he's allowed.
Speaker 2 (28:58):
He took a bunch of hits because he came move. No,
he's a third bro, he can't move.
Speaker 1 (29:03):
But you're right about the justin fields. So that is
an interesting angle. I've yet to hear that. If that
game goes the other way, he is the story of
Week one. I can get down with that.
Speaker 2 (29:15):
I like that angle, and with the Jets Bills thing.
Speaker 3 (29:18):
Over the last decade, teams to lead a comeback down
fourteen plus points in their previous game are just fifty
five and seventy in their next game twenty three and
thirty nine against the spread on the road in that situation.
So I think it's a classic leftdowns. But it's also
a home home dog on that. On top of that,
a home divisional dog of seven or more, which is
eighteen and one against the spread in the first nine
(29:40):
games of the regular season since twenty twenty two, thirty
seven to ten and two against the spread since since
twenty twenty so there's a lot there to like in
terms of the Jets, kind of a not a bounce
I won't even call it a bounce backs box. I
think I think everybody who anybody who's rooting for the
Jets probably walks out a Week one feeling good about it,
even though the defense didn't play well. I would say
(30:03):
maybe a little bit of a bounce back spot. Just
you lost the game, so you don't you're not high
and mighty coming off a Week one and then little
leftdown spot for Buffalo.
Speaker 1 (30:12):
I agree with that. That's a team that I had
zero expectation for and they did look good. They were
scoring a bunch of points. Oh, by the way, the
lowest total on the board in the in Week one,
they scored the most points up until eighty two was
thrown up on Sunday night between the Ravens and the Bills.
And you know, that was a pretty entertaining game, to
(30:32):
say the least. So let's go Jets. I'm with you.
Speaker 3 (30:35):
On the Justin feels love give me both give me
both quarterbacks to score a touchdown in that game.
Speaker 2 (30:40):
Also the one ten give me both fields on Allen
I like that as well.
Speaker 1 (30:45):
All Right, Survivor pool play Mark pin you down, keep
it simple.
Speaker 2 (30:48):
Stupid Baltimore.
Speaker 3 (30:50):
I don't even really see a second one on the
board that intrigues me. If Purdy was playing, I would
have taken a look at San Francisco at New Orleans.
Speaker 2 (31:02):
With the pretty question marks.
Speaker 3 (31:03):
I don't know, maybe you take a look at the
Rams at Tennessee. I wouldn't do the Buffalo at the Jets.
Don't want to do a road a road divisional matchup there.
I don't trust Dallas. I don't trust Detroit. I don't
trust Arizona. Yeah, maybe Arizona, but I would I would
(31:28):
just go with Baltimore, and you didn't use them in
week one, So I would go with Baltimore.
Speaker 1 (31:32):
Twelve and a half point favorites at home. As he
pointed out against Cleveland, Cleveland's defense looked good at times,
but come on, man, it's Baltimore Ravens. And they looked
who they looked fast. They Flowers. Man, I had Zay Flowers. See,
I'm a prisoner for this when I draft players in
my fantasy league one year and it's like, eh, you know,
like I need new blood Jay Flowers as I'm a
(31:53):
lot of my teams last year. And then he goes
off in Week one. I'm a huge fan of A
and and of course Lamar in the Baltimore Ravens offense,
So we'll see if they can keep that going against
the Cleveland Browns. But twelve and a half, I think
that that's gonna be a pretty big play. I think
the second biggest play, if I'm not mistaken, is the
Cardinals at home to the Carolina Panthers. And then I
(32:13):
am buying a little of that Dallas because the Giants
were that bad. They were that bad on offense that
I think Dak and that receiving crew could at least
score a few points. I don't know if the Giants
are gold to find the end zone all that much
until I don't even know if it's Russell Wilson, but
at least Jackson Dart will maybe like make some dumb
(32:35):
decisions and throw it deeper at times. You never know.
I don't know, but I do notice that was an ugly,
ugly game against the Commander's Week one.
Speaker 2 (32:42):
Yeah, you know, I just you know me. I think
Dallas is gonna stink still this year.
Speaker 3 (32:47):
I think that was an illusion in the Week one,
the Jalen no Jalen Carter, especially the impact it had
on the first half, and you look at what happened
in the offense in the second half the Eagles normalized.
If I was going with one outside of Baltimore, I'd
go La, I'd go with the Rams.
Speaker 2 (33:00):
Uh and I have Rams five and a half. So
Tennessee Rams Tennessee at Tennessee.
Speaker 3 (33:05):
Cam Warden took six sacs last week, and we just
talked about the Rams dominating the Houston oat line. So
I could see maybe a repeat performance. Titan's like thirteen penalties.
They went two for fifteen on third and fourth down
last week. Sometimes you could point to that and say, oh,
positive regressions coming. I pointed that and say, oh, Brian
Callahan's a bozo. I think their head coaches are moron. Yeah,
(33:28):
he didn't know about how you. I think you're you're
on top of it. So what did he say exactly again.
Speaker 1 (33:34):
Said the elbow isn't equal two feet. It was a
play that the guy got his elbow down, and he
said that doesn't equal two feet, when in reality, the
forearm equals two feet, the butt cheek equals two feet, right, Like,
you know, you got to know these things if you're
It's one thing if we're saying it. It's another if
you're the head coach of the team, Like, come on, dude,
(33:55):
you got to know these things. And quite honestly, that
that I don't know if that's a viirable offense, but
that is definitely a call to my office and like,
what are you doing? Bro? Like you don't know the rulebook?
You got to know when to challenge, Like what's going
on here? I will say, it's like that Camboard's box
score was ugly, but I liked what I saw for him.
I think I think you have potential. That roster is
(34:15):
a disaster. Those receiver catching anything for him, But the
Denver Broncos were just trying to lose that game.
Speaker 3 (34:23):
They were trying and that's why I'm so annoyed. I'm
in this one group chat trol ro dude has this
group chet for NFL stuff and I've been loud about that.
Speaker 2 (34:33):
My Broncos hate this offseason.
Speaker 3 (34:34):
I think everybody was ridiculous putting them up to being
a contender all of this.
Speaker 1 (34:38):
You're a Sean Payton guy, though I am.
Speaker 3 (34:40):
I am, which is what made it hard for me
to point out to people the stat I've been saying
all off season, eighty percent of top five defenses don't
finish top ten the next year. And if you go
down the list of quarterbacks that the Broncos played last year,
it's an unbelievable list. And then if you go down
the list of quarterbacks that they're going to have to
play this year, it's Mahomes twice, Herbern twice, Gino twice, Burrow,
(35:06):
Jalen dak Stroud, Jaden Love, Trevor. I left some guys
off who you know you could maybe include if you
want to be higher on. I think Fields is on
the list, but there's some other names too. But and
they looked great in Week one. I think this Denver
Broncos defense is especially designed to beat up on bad
(35:26):
quarterback play, and we saw that last year. They went
one in eight or one and seven against competent quarterbacks.
The only one that they beat was Baker, So I
think they looked great against Cam Woard. Everybody's celebrating them as,
you know, the best defense again this year. I think
once they have to play some legitimate quarterbacks, I don't
think it's gonna look like that. And also people are
celebrating that Broncos defensive performance against cam Ward.
Speaker 2 (35:48):
I don't even like cam Ward. I'm not a Camward guy.
Speaker 3 (35:51):
I had him like fiftieth on my big board this
year overall, so him going first was crazy to me.
But he's also set up worse than any rookie quarterback
I can ever remember. There's no talent on that roster.
The coaches at Bozo I don't understand anything. I don't
understand the plan in Tennessee kind of really outside of
(36:12):
we like cam Ward. So I feel bad for cam Ward.
I think there's a good chance he flames out of
this spot in the next three to four years, just
because it takes a long time to put together the
bones of a roster, and I don't think they have
the bones of a roster. So I think more likely
than not Camwards not the quarterback of the Titans in
(36:32):
four or five years. Whatever he want, yell, I just
I will say this.
Speaker 1 (36:36):
I think we had that conversation a ton heading into
the draft, and it was as simple as trade back,
pick up abdul Card or pick up somebody else, whatever
you want.
Speaker 2 (36:45):
With the Jacks game up for Travis.
Speaker 1 (36:47):
Yeah, that's absurd too. And then you got this year,
which are this upcoming year with college football going to
get to looks like there's gonna be some pretty good
quarterbacks in that draft to choose from. We'll see and oh,
by the way, you have to look around the league now.
Albeit this might be an overreaction after one week, but
justin Fields, moves On played well, Daniel Jones moves On
(37:07):
played well.
Speaker 2 (37:08):
There's been a Gino.
Speaker 1 (37:09):
Gino played well, Like, okay, you know, you can see
some other quarterbacks. Sam Donald didn't play well this week,
but look what happened last year. So maybe like, oh,
I gotta find that franchise guy. No, you gotta build.
You have to build it the right way or else
you need to get the absolute stud at overall number
one pick. And if they're not there, what are you
(37:30):
gonna do. You can't just pick up you know, can't
grow them in the backyard.
Speaker 3 (37:33):
So you mentioned Gino and Donald, and this is just
a take that I want to get out there. The
hypothetical twenty twenty five Seahawks if they would have done
everything they did this offseason except pay Sam Donald and
get rid of Gino, if they just kept Gino as
the guy and paid him what they paid Sam Donald,
They're a Super Bowl contender this year. Wow, maybe not.
(37:58):
Maybe an NFC contender is maybe a little bit more fair. Really,
I would have picked them to win the division.
Speaker 1 (38:03):
I am making that a segment takes that we need
to just get out there. All right, we just put it,
you know, it's like, all right, we're doing a show.
We're trying to move in a direction, but we got
to get these takes out there.
Speaker 3 (38:14):
I really like Seattle's defense last week, even though they
made a couple of boltonhead plays down the stretch, streakul
and just reach your hands out and intercept the ball.
But they they gave up seventeen to a San fran offense.
That's pretty good.
Speaker 2 (38:28):
You know. That's Kyle Shanahan on the other side.
Speaker 3 (38:30):
So I will say, Mike McDonald cowardly field goal or
tied ten to ten with three minutes to go, fourth
and one on the ten, instead of going for it
to try to take some time off the clock and
score a touchdown, kicks the field goal.
Speaker 2 (38:44):
San Franco's right down the field and scores a touchdown and.
Speaker 3 (38:47):
Seattle, luckily, you get all the way back down and
have another chance. And then Darnod gets the ball knocked
out of his hands, which goes back to my original point.
Gino wins that game, and I think Gino twenty. I
think this year's team with Gino wins eleven twelve games,
and I think they're gonna win like nine games.
Speaker 2 (39:02):
Interesting with Arnold.
Speaker 1 (39:04):
No, you're right because Shanahan couldn't get the run game going.
I know McCaffrey looked good, but that defensive front for Seattle,
they were stuffing them. And then Shanahan had to be
his crafty self and he was dialing up good plays.
McCaffrey out of the backfield. Christian McCaffrey. I'm crossing my fingers.
I got him in my one league. I rolled the dice,
Mark Grea Than I yeah, I know. I'm trying to
(39:25):
trade them right now. All right, look real quick, give
me some rapid fire because we got to get over
to college. Where are you at? Give me a lean,
give me a play Thursday Night Football three and a half,
Packers favorite at home.
Speaker 2 (39:37):
Nothing.
Speaker 1 (39:38):
Now.
Speaker 2 (39:38):
This is a watch and learning game for me.
Speaker 3 (39:40):
The team that wins this game is our toughest competition
in not just the NFC, but all of the NFL.
The commedis are the team that impressed me most in
Week one.
Speaker 1 (39:50):
Wow, Steelers in Seahawks Pittsburgh got home three points spread
their favorite.
Speaker 2 (39:54):
Give me the Seahawks plus three.
Speaker 3 (39:55):
Like we just talked about the front, I think any
team that puts pressure on Aaron Rodgers is gonna give
them a lot of trouble. When the Jets got pressure
on Rogers, you couldn't do anything. Jets chose to not
blitz at all. I think Mike McDonald blitz is a
little bit more here. Give me the Seahawks plus three.
I can't believe I'm betting on Sam Darnold again.
Speaker 1 (40:12):
Cincinnati three and a half at home against Jacksonville.
Speaker 3 (40:15):
Give me the Jags. Jags plus three and a half.
Joe Burrow, I don't need to tell you all the numbers,
all the stats about the first two weeks against the spread,
how he's been in his career. Fun fact, though, Trevor
Lawrence five straight games that he started he's covered.
Speaker 1 (40:29):
Wow. I like that. We love a team that covers
Bears and Lions. Oh my five and a half points
spread Lions at home? Are they gonna right their wrongs?
Speaker 2 (40:37):
Give me the Bears.
Speaker 3 (40:38):
I think that the loss was less catastrophic than people
want to make you believe because it was on Monday
Night football. If that game happened at one o'clock, I
think the reactions to that Bears Vikings game are a
lot different. J. J. McCarthy certainly not the NFC Offensive
Player of the Week, and whatever we.
Speaker 2 (40:53):
Want to say.
Speaker 3 (40:53):
I think the Bears defense looked a lot better for
most of that game until the end of the game
when they wore down. But yeah, me Bears plus six.
The Bears and Ravens both blue ten plus point leads
in Week one. Teams to blow a ten plus point
we lead in Week one are thirty and nineteen twenty nine,
nineteen and one against the spread since nineteen ninety.
Speaker 1 (41:13):
Ooh, that's a good nugget. I love that one. Broncos
two and a half on the road in Indy.
Speaker 2 (41:19):
Who you got stay away? I have no idea.
Speaker 3 (41:22):
Probably Denver, Probably Denver, probably wins Denver and Arizona or
in Indian Arizona, whatever two of the three would pick.
They're all gonna be two and oh and I bet
whatever their live win total under is at that point,
I might do that with what Arizona and whoever wins
this game. I'll bet their live win total under, especially
if it's Denver.
Speaker 1 (41:39):
All right over to college football, mark every junior. We
got a couple of big games, and I can't wait
to get your thoughts on. Check the temperature here on
a Wednesday and Penn State and Villanova fifty points, nikid,
let's open it up with the let's see here, I
wanted to go to the SEC. Let's go Georgia Tennessee.
(42:00):
Georgia's on the road in Rocky Top. They're three and
a half point favorites. Am I wrong to believe that
Tennessee could win this game? Out right?
Speaker 3 (42:09):
Definitely not. You're definitely not wrong to believe that. I
just believe the other way. I'm with Georgia. I'm on
the dogs here, and I know it's kind of hard to.
Speaker 2 (42:20):
Georgia hasn't played anybody yet.
Speaker 3 (42:21):
I haven't played nobody, Paul, so it's hard to make
any declarations about what I think Georgia is as a team.
And in fact, they probably should have beat Booth teams
they played by even more. But I do think that
Tennessee defense was gettable against Syracuse. I thought Garrett Syracuse
moved the ball and there were a couple of mistakes
where I felt like they put up twenty six points.
I felt like they actually could have put up more.
(42:42):
They gained three seventy seven, They've had more first downs
than Tennessee. They threw a pick in the red zone.
They actually had the ball for longer than Tennessee. I
think there was some creakiness on that Tennessee defense that
I think Georgia can exploit here.
Speaker 2 (42:58):
If I'm saying what I think.
Speaker 3 (42:59):
The worst unit is out of the four, I think
it's still the Tennessee defense. So give me Georgia minas
three and a half. I don't love it, though.
Speaker 1 (43:06):
That's fair. It's a good, good game to start off
a little bit of the SEC Conference competition, and the
game is being played in Tennessee, so it's making people
think a lot, a lot more into the game than
just like, hey, I got to take them dogs. And
it's tough because you know, we've bet these games one
hundred different ways over the last like ten ten years,
whatever it is, and Georgia constantly comes out on top.
(43:27):
That's the issue, and you just can't get that out
of your head. As we lose Mark there for a second,
you can't get that out of your head. And it's
just so frustrating because that's they've been dominant. Right, you
know where I went and Mark just pop back. The
problem is we bet these games over the years, and
nine times out of ten Georgia comes out on top.
(43:48):
So it's like, all right, here's the spot where Tennessee
has played well. They threw the ball a ton against Syracuse.
They got some big receivers on offense, but it's still
Georgia and we know what they're capable of.
Speaker 2 (44:00):
That's kind of where I'm at as well.
Speaker 1 (44:01):
Gimmy Kirby, all right, a couple of big spreads. Hereous
where you're at. And I'll tell you what these numbers
are moving. So if you're waiting, shame on you. You
gotta get on these numbers early. But let's talk about Miami.
In South Florida. That was seventeen and a half. I
took it yesterday. Now we're under seventeen. We're at sixteen
and a half. South Florida. Impressive start. Two and zero
(44:23):
one the season against two ranked teams. Miami. Don't tell
you much about Miami. Look good against Notre Dame. Where
are you at? And that one is it gonna be
a good ball game in your mind.
Speaker 2 (44:33):
I have no idea. This is a tough one because
it's so unpredictable.
Speaker 3 (44:36):
With USF coming off with the biggest winning program history,
maybe I think that's not unfair beating big brother Florida.
I'd have to look into if they ever beat a
Florida or Florida State or Miami. I don't say there's
not one coming to my mind that that was a
bigger set. I know in seven they had a run,
they got to.
Speaker 2 (44:54):
Number two in the country. Yeah, they fell off.
Speaker 3 (44:57):
I don't know if they had like a massive win
against the super power in there, I'd have to go
back and look, it has all the makings right of like, oh,
USF comes out and loses thirty five nothing, and that
was their moment. And they partied all week in South Florida, which,
by the way, that's in like Tampa, that that university,
which is not South Florida, that's like Central Florida. But anyway,
(45:22):
I think that they're they're probably living it up down
there this week after beating Florida, after beating the team
that they probably all wanted to go to. But yeah,
I think that this is a situation where Miami probably.
Speaker 2 (45:37):
Puts it on them.
Speaker 3 (45:38):
But we've also seen christ of Baul struggle with plenty
of teams that he should have put it on in
the past.
Speaker 2 (45:42):
So I don't have a strong read on this one.
Speaker 3 (45:45):
By the way, if USF wins, they should be like
number four in the country.
Speaker 1 (45:48):
Yeah, well, you know as far as the as far
as DAP voters are actually watching the games, sure, that's
probably with I have never I have never read as
much about the AP pole voting and how it works
and who gets to do it as much as I
have in the last twenty four hours.
Speaker 2 (46:10):
Helen Sawyer is that her name?
Speaker 1 (46:11):
Yeah, Yeah, there's sixty two voters, like she made it
seem like there's two hundred of us. We'll figure it out. Nope,
that's not the case. Uh yeah, that was not a
good look. She clearly did not watch and she was
trying to play it off.
Speaker 3 (46:29):
And you know, and by the way, I actually think
something that's more consequential than this.
Speaker 2 (46:36):
If we're talking about voting and what we need to
be doing a review.
Speaker 3 (46:40):
Of the the Heisman voting is a joke, of course,
it is a joke. The way your people only are
voting for their regions. I don't even know how these
some of these people get a vote.
Speaker 1 (46:53):
I know how, I know how John Jansen got his vote?
Speaker 2 (46:56):
How did he ask for it?
Speaker 1 (46:57):
No, Dick Girardi had a vote, and Dick couldn't do it.
So Dick, who is a real journalist, said he knew
Jansen's been doing a show with Janson for years. He
knows Jansen loves college football, so he said, I know
you watched the game. Will you do the right by
this award Jansen has and he's still voting.
Speaker 3 (47:14):
So but like some ways I respect that and and
it's a good thing in that case, but in other ways, it's.
Speaker 2 (47:22):
Like people shouldn't even give their vote to someone.
Speaker 1 (47:25):
How did she get hers?
Speaker 2 (47:27):
Yeah, it's it is a travesty.
Speaker 3 (47:31):
And I mean, I'm still not ash and Gentsy not
being a Heisman last year is a joke.
Speaker 2 (47:36):
And there's no way you can convince me that it
wasn't because of the media machine that became of course,
Mime and Dion and Travis and all that nonsense. It
wasn't even based on statistics. It was based on narrative.
Speaker 3 (47:47):
And oh, no one's ever done No one ever did
with genty was doing it like blow it up. I
was so that the Heisman voting. This made me think
about the Heisman voting. It's all the AP voting. That's
That's what it flipped me to think, you're.
Speaker 1 (48:00):
Not alone because Commissioner Danny Canal. Hey, he's the one
that's shining the light on all this nonsense. I love it.
Although it was a USF blog that originally put the
tweet out and that's the one that got it going,
but it was it.
Speaker 3 (48:18):
Was not pro sec so Danny builled it was okay
to talk about.
Speaker 1 (48:22):
Well, yeah, Canal, we know he's got his ways. But
you know, at times I don't mind Danny Canell. I mean,
so he was, but he was talking about it, and
he did bring it up. He's like, we will talk
about the Heisman Trophy voting when we get there, but
for right now, AP volter voters do better, so that
we'll leave it at that. We'll see if that's the case.
Hopefully they just watched the games, that's all all right.
(48:44):
Other game happening in our backyard. Another gigantic spread. This
Temple making a ball game against Oklahoma Mark every jr.
Speaker 3 (48:53):
Te Temple University no, I probably not, say probably not.
Did you hear the hot with the Clahoma reporters talking
about it's an high school game?
Speaker 2 (49:03):
They're not wrong high school games.
Speaker 1 (49:05):
I was gonna say my high school. Yeah, that's that's
that's the type of crowd that would show up from
my high school games, not the majority of like especially
around here. It is you know, it's they play in
the link. It's too damn big. They should be playing
down there. But where are they gonna play?
Speaker 3 (49:21):
Regardless though, I want Roy Burton and Kyle Pagan in
front row there.
Speaker 2 (49:26):
They better be here.
Speaker 1 (49:28):
They better be twenty one and a half. Someone's twenty
one and a half, Mark kivy Jini. That's a noon kickoff.
I'm pissed me.
Speaker 2 (49:37):
It's what's the It's only twenty one and a half.
Speaker 1 (49:40):
It's come down a lot.
Speaker 3 (49:42):
Wow, that's that's not a big number team they're favored by.
That's like what Alabama's favored by against Wisconsin.
Speaker 1 (49:49):
Pretty much simple scoring points right for them.
Speaker 2 (49:54):
That's that's respect.
Speaker 3 (49:56):
That's respect from Vegas twenty one and a half against Oklahoma,
who just Michigan last.
Speaker 2 (50:01):
That's respect.
Speaker 1 (50:01):
Good for Temple if Oklahoma doesn't play their best game.
Do you think it's gonna be close? Do you think
like there's a chance that In.
Speaker 2 (50:09):
My opinion just kind of changed based on the spread.
I hadn't looked at the spread. I figured it was
like thirty five. To be honest with you, I didn't
know it was that low. I guess I should be
treating it with a little bit more respect.
Speaker 1 (50:18):
Twenty one and a half.
Speaker 2 (50:19):
All right, I haven't caught Temple yet, I'll be honest.
Speaker 1 (50:22):
No, yeah, I missed that game against Howard last week.
How dare I let's talk about USC and Perdue. This
is another interesting one big number here, twenty one USC
on the road at Purdue, both teams two and zero.
Bury Otam running the ship for Purdue. Lincoln Riley as
himself a quarterback, a Hawaiian quarterback. I'm a Samoan quarterback
(50:46):
out there who has the sleeve of like those tattoos.
I just I want to know the details that goes
into that tattoo. I mean, he's got this really crisp,
but he's there.
Speaker 2 (51:00):
Do you the Samoan wrestlers all have like the same one.
It's kind of right here leading into the R and
Roman name.
Speaker 1 (51:07):
It's like Maui's Maui.
Speaker 2 (51:09):
Yeah, Rock has one now too.
Speaker 3 (51:11):
It's some sort of I actually think it has a
Samoan I think it's like a Samoan heritage.
Speaker 1 (51:16):
I'm sure. But the detail, it's just incredible.
Speaker 2 (51:19):
They're crazy. I mean, go look at Roman Ragns tattoos.
Sometimes it's unbelievable.
Speaker 1 (51:24):
Well, this kid can sling it. Lincoln Rally. People are
saying he's back twenty one points. So you're taking USC
or Purdue. If I made you give a play lay the.
Speaker 3 (51:32):
Points, I'm on USC. It's one of my players this week,
one of my favorite players this week. I'm a MYABA believer.
I'm a little bit less of a Lincoln Riley hater
than I think the people you will find out there.
And I think if Lincoln Riley wants to get this right,
he's got to win these next two games at Purdue
and against Michigan State.
Speaker 2 (51:49):
And look good doing it.
Speaker 3 (51:50):
Before you have at Illinois, Michigan, at Notre Dame, at Nebraska,
you know you have at Oregon later in the season.
They have some tough games. They've got to win these
games big. If Lincoln Raley wants to stay your long term, so.
Speaker 1 (52:02):
All right, let's stay in or let's go to the SEC.
I want to talk to you about South Carolina and Vandy.
I'm trying to get an updated number on that one.
You have a number on that one.
Speaker 3 (52:15):
Six and a half is what I wrote down right,
It's not one that's on my card. I would lean Vandy.
Vandy came through for me last week big time against
Virginia Tech. Not to do the similar opponents college football game.
Dandy looked better against Virginia Tech than South Carolina did,
And I think Vandy's was on the road and South
Carolina was at home. So if you want to do that, you.
Speaker 1 (52:37):
Know you could do that.
Speaker 2 (52:37):
College football mas's not always linear, I would say, but
I was. It's not a four and a half.
Speaker 1 (52:43):
Yep, far and a half.
Speaker 3 (52:46):
I would lean Vandy winning the game, So maybe I
should be betting Bandy. But again, similar to US have
such a big win last week, where I don't know
if I want to if I want to be riding
a team coming off to such a big win. Fandy
is a little bit different in USF because they had
some of that success last year where a lot of
those guys are back to this team. They've had some success,
(53:06):
so but I'm gonna stay away from this one.
Speaker 1 (53:09):
I lean Mandy, all right, two more and you know
where we're ending. We're gonna We're gonna go to LSU
and Florida. Now though this is a seven and a
half point spread, LSU favored at home seven thirty kickoff
on Saturday, taking on the Gators who were just embarrassed
reeling for answers. Is this one going to be a
tight game, a blowout? Who you got?
Speaker 2 (53:31):
It's gonna be tight?
Speaker 3 (53:32):
I don't have the stones to bet Billy Napier to
Just to be honest with you, you know how I
feel about billion Apier and how I've felt about him
since the day he was hired.
Speaker 2 (53:42):
That was that it's crazy I've been here that long
with the gambler.
Speaker 3 (53:47):
But I mean that's got to be three or four
years ago, right, He's been there a good bit of
time now.
Speaker 2 (53:52):
And I remember the day he was hired. I ran
into the group chut and said, that.
Speaker 3 (53:56):
Ain't gonna work in the in this SEC brother, and
he's I think he's proven he's not the SEC.
Speaker 2 (54:03):
He's not an SEC coach.
Speaker 3 (54:05):
Having said all of that, everybody's looking at this spread
and looking at it like, ooh, LSU against the team
that just lost the USF and all I have to
lay is seven and a half. It's kind of like
how I looked at Ole Miss against Kentucky last week,
which bit me in the butt because Mark Stops took
a meaningless field goal with ten seconds left or whatever.
But it does feel like this is the most obvious fad,
(54:27):
the public spot of all time.
Speaker 2 (54:28):
I'm not someone who cares about that generally.
Speaker 3 (54:31):
I like generally evaluating what's on the field and going
off of that. I don't even look at the public
splits without even I'm sure you know a little bit more.
Is LSU a public play in that matchup? I'd have
to imagine they are.
Speaker 1 (54:44):
Yeah, I would assume so too as well. But I
don't know exactly what the numbers are. But if you
pin me down, yeah, and especially with seven and a half,
I think that's like, you know, you throw that extra
hook in there. Now you get people think it both ways,
But I could see Florida be into play absolutely.
Speaker 3 (55:00):
It's just based on that, which it was just why
it's not on my card because I don't like betting
just based on that. There's a lot of people who
almost based on that, But I do think Florida would
be the way I would go. If you're in a pool,
or if I was in a pool and I had
to pick all the spreads or something like that, Florida
would be the way i'd go.
Speaker 1 (55:18):
All right, final game on the card. You know we're
head in South Bend.
Speaker 2 (55:22):
We're not Cal Minnesota. Are you kidding me?
Speaker 1 (55:24):
It's the game of the week, Yo, That kid can
sling it.
Speaker 3 (55:30):
Can you pronounce the name Sean Brace? It's the Cal kid. Yes,
he took the Cal kid. I wrote it down, sounded
out with me.
Speaker 2 (55:40):
Jaren Jared sunga pool of tailor.
Speaker 1 (55:46):
Yeah, no, shot, it's the Cal kid. It's the Cal quarterback.
Speaker 2 (55:50):
I'm going I'm going with JKS.
Speaker 1 (55:53):
What nice I like Jks. What a fastball he has.
Speaker 2 (55:58):
I'm in. I'm in on this kid.
Speaker 3 (56:00):
I I by Saturday, I'll have all the numbers for
Justin Wilcox, the Cal head coach. As an underdog has
been unbelievable. And then if you look at his numbers
as a favorite, he's been horrific. So against the spread
when Cal isn't supposed to win, when their backs are
against the Wall. You know they're gonna cover. I'll have
the numbers for that. But by Saturday there's some great
Wilcox against spread underdog numbers. That's my favorite bet of Saturday,
(56:23):
though for sure, ten thirty Minnesota traveling to Cal to Berkeley,
there's not gonna be that many people in that stands,
I would guess. I think Cal has a traveling times.
I do think it's such a cow spot. I think
the joke they should be favored about like five and
a half. In my opinion, you're getting plus one and
a half plus two and a half depending where you're looking.
So Cal is my favorite play of the weekend for Saturday.
(56:44):
That's I mean, we talked about all the big games, right.
Speaker 1 (56:47):
Yeah, oh yeah, that's that's the final one and then
we'll get one more. Here my joke, gotcha, you're off
the screen. Why do you think Texas A and M
is going to give Notre Dame or run for their money?
Speaker 3 (56:59):
I think they're winning the game. Marcel Reed looks unbelievable.
I picked text saying them to make the playoff. And
let me just tell you this, Sean Brace, I think
this is the biggest thutard Dame regular season game since
twenty twenty, just because of the fact that they lose, lose.
Speaker 2 (57:16):
You have no wiggle room in this.
Speaker 3 (57:18):
You lose this game, the season's over and it's a
shame because you play your toughest, two toughest games, or
the first two weeks of the season.
Speaker 1 (57:25):
Nobody had a tougher start. Nobody had a tougher start
than Notre Dame.
Speaker 2 (57:29):
It's their two toughest games of the year.
Speaker 3 (57:30):
Now you can say, look at their next ten games,
none of them were that hard. It's true, their toughest
one is probably USC at home. Maybe for the rest
of the year, maybe, but there's not a lot of
tough games the rest of the year. And if you
went ten and two coming off of a national title
appearance where you lost in week four and then in
week nine, I think you'd probably be like, Okay, you know,
(57:51):
we might not have made the playoffs, or but you know,
we went ten and two. We had a pretty good season.
Marcus didn't let the train run off the track. But
because you're starting zero to two, it's going to make
whatever if they do lose, it's gonna make the season
feel different even if they win out ye shocking to me.
Speaker 2 (58:12):
Shocking to me, I will say I love the moxie. CJ.
Speaker 3 (58:15):
Carr showed down the stretch in that game, especially for
his first game in college, in a big moment, in
a big spot in Miami. Uh, And I would say that,
you know, I have a lot of optimism for CJ.
Carr going forward, But it is still a second game
as a freshman where Marcel Reid and Elko played together
all year last year. They've looked good here early on
(58:37):
this year. I'm worried about A and M. I said
before the year, this game scared me more than Miami,
and then they went and lost in Miami. So I
think that this is a loss, And then I think
Notre Dame probably does win out. Maybe there's one tough
loss in there. They have lost some weird games to
bad teams in the Marcus Streaman era, so maybe they
go nine and three, which, in theory, a nine and
(58:57):
three season coming off the National championship, where you're a
pretty young team with a freshman quarterback.
Speaker 2 (59:02):
Shouldn't be that big of a problem.
Speaker 3 (59:04):
But when it starts with oh to two, there's gonna
be jokes all over the timeline on Saturday night.
Speaker 2 (59:09):
If Notre Dame loses that game, all right.
Speaker 1 (59:11):
Yeah, it's gonna be a good one. And uh, I
actually think it's gonna be a Notre Dame victory. But
I would take the points with A and M. I
just think that's one too. But you Notre Dame like
the challenge for that offensive line. They got to be
better tas Miami's defense looked pretty dark good. They had
some pretty pretty big studs on the defensive line. A
and M's got some studs too though on defense. That's
(59:34):
that's the rub there.
Speaker 2 (59:35):
But it's gonna be better than Miami personally. I know
those people wouldn't agree with that. I'm really high on
A and M.
Speaker 1 (59:43):
Well, we're gonna find out. We're gonna find out who's
a better job. I love it. Mark, you're the best.
To be listening to you on Saturday. Of course he
will be before us as we are live from Happy Valley,
Penn State will be transitioning from Markemmginia a Tough Care
radio show to us with the College Football Rundown Show
Live from Penn State. Big Game Villanova and Penn State
(01:00:06):
can't wait. At least we're got beautiful weather. It's gonna
be a lot of fun. Mark is always takes out.
Speaker 2 (01:00:10):
Please hit minus six and a half pit Country. Let's
ride Mark.
Speaker 1 (01:00:15):
Every junior is the best. Be sure to catch them
every Saturday Tough Cover radio show. It's the Daily Ticket here.
Don't touch that doll. If you missed anything, you can
always get to our outsite at Foxpho Gambler dot com. Good
luck in those plays, go Berts. It's the Daily Ticket
with Sean Brace Monday to Friday. All right, time for
(01:00:36):
the best of the board, my Power rankings, and forgive
me for not waiting on Monday Night football, but already
I got the top three locked in my head. Week
one edition with that as well. At number three, the
Indianapolis Colts. Yeah you heard it, Daniel Jones at the
offense home. The defense was flying around for the Colts
and Tyler Warren. That is the truth. Don't be shocked
(01:00:57):
if Indies in the mix for the Division crown. At
number two of the Green Bay Packers, Michael Parsons only
played twenty nine snaps, but his impact was felt on
every single one of those.
Speaker 4 (01:01:08):
That's scary for the rest of the NFC. Watch out
for the pack in the NFC and the top dog.
No surprise, the Buffalo Bills. Josh Allen through for two
hundred and fifty one yards in the fourth.
Speaker 1 (01:01:20):
Quarter alone, hero ball come back win over the Ravens,
and the reigning MVP is already stacking up another campaign
back to back MVPs. Well, it's not that crazy. If
he continues to put performances like he did on Sunday Night,
the Bills are still that team if you can wager
on it. We're talking about it right here on the Gambler.
