we go when it comes cratching down and it hurts inside.
In a good afternoon, everybody, I am Sean Brace. It
is the Daily Ticket.

Speaker 2 (00:21):
It is Thursday. I feel like I'm in the Truman Show.
Having left the house in a couple of days.

Speaker 1 (00:26):
Still dealing with the uh, the poison ivy that everybody's
sick and tired of hearing about.

Speaker 2 (00:31):
Still scratching, still rubbing, not scratching, which is a good thing.

Speaker 1 (00:35):
But the steroids are working. Sam Austrey from The Score
gonna join me here on Thursday's edition of The Daily Ticket,
as he often does.

Speaker 2 (00:42):
Of course, we like to do it live in studio.
We'll be back next.

Speaker 1 (00:45):
Week, and of course, a big, big, big month of
August front and center for us. We're gonna go really heavy,
really hard, all the way up until Labor Day, get
that party started for college football, and then of course
we know what's on the other side. September means go
time football season. Sam, good afternoon, how are we doing today, sir?

Speaker 3 (01:04):
Doing great? Doing great.

Speaker 4 (01:05):
At the end of July, I means football's coming. I
feel like when August comes, it's the end of summer.
I don't know why when that August first date hit comes,
Oh yeah, I'm just like, all right, summer's wrapping up.
Football seasons here. Training camp started this week, so it's
been a fun summer, but it's coming.

Speaker 3 (01:20):
To a cluse. I feel like we're gonna hate to
hear that, by the way, No.

Speaker 1 (01:23):
It's the truth, though. I feel like for me, I'm
a little bit different where I had a newborn and
it's just everything is running together and of course wrapped
up with this nonsense that I've been dealing with the
last week, which is taking me completely off my feet.

Speaker 2 (01:36):
But all in all, like this summer has cruised by,
and I.

Speaker 1 (01:39):
Feel like as I get older, they just continue to
go faster, man, which is very disappointing.

Speaker 2 (01:44):
But at the end of the day, man, it's fun.

Speaker 1 (01:48):
Like I love doing a show weekend, day in, day out, whatever.

Speaker 2 (01:52):
But there's nothing better than Eagles season.

Speaker 1 (01:54):
So we're all ready to go. We're fired up for
a big football season college and NFL, and then that
rolls right into college basketball and of course the sixers
in NBA. So like the fall is great, Like I
love the fall. I'm a summer guy. I'm a hot guy.
Uh pause, but you know at the end, like there's
nothing better than fall from the sport, from the sports perspective.

Speaker 4 (02:15):
Yeah, one hundred percent. I mean I'm a I mean
I love the summers. Yeah, you never never beat a.

Speaker 3 (02:21):
Great also a hot guy, but I am also not
in that way.

Speaker 4 (02:24):
But yeah, Spencer, you ask, I guess, uh so love
I love the summers, but this summer cruise by, and
then it's like once fall comes, that's that's the meat
and bones of it, like fall into football, basketball, the crossover.

Speaker 3 (02:38):
It's as good as it gets.

Speaker 4 (02:40):
So I've always said, like the best months or these
like it's the early summers, like the June, July, and
then once you get September, October, the heat, the meat
of the fall is the best months of the year.

Speaker 3 (02:52):
So I'm excited to get into it.

Speaker 1 (02:53):
All. Right, Well, we will talk about everything, especially the
Phillies and the whole cheese. Could somebody do something thing
about Alice Cora on the top of a step directing
traffic picking up these signs, like are we kidding me?
Nobody else saw that. But we'll save that for just
a second because of course the big news that just
came down the pipe, and it's about as controversial as
it gets for some. I guess that's kind of going

(03:16):
up against each other, but it is controversial. I choose
not to think too deep into specific situations like this,
and it's easy for me to say as a white man.
You know, like Hule Coogan point blank passed away this morning.
We knew that he was dealing with some serious health conditions.
I heard he couldn't even talk last week. Again his

(03:38):
boy Bubba the love Sponge, who has set him up
for some bad stuff over the years, but apparently it
was still connected to him regardless. You know, people can
go into deep and whatever. You can have your feelings
about anybody. Everybody's entitled to their own opinion. For me,
I just look at a situation like this with Hull
Clogan and bar None. He was the number one wrestler.

(04:01):
He was what I grew up on. It is a
shame what he turned into. It is a shame what
we learned about him with the with the videos, with
some of the things that were released, with his daughter
dating a black man, all of that, and then of
course the the Maga movement tying himself to Trump, you know,
to to really shove it in everybody's face. He was
pushing beer, which nobody has an issue with that, but

(04:22):
he tied himself to that to help promote himself and
get that last bit of you know, look at me
type of deal that these celebrities can never let go
of even if they're at you know, the seventy plus
age of whatever Hulk was.

Speaker 2 (04:35):
How well was he seventy two, seventy seventy one?

Speaker 3 (04:37):
I saw seventy.

Speaker 1 (04:38):
One, okay, which is still not that old, but man,
you know he had some he had some vitamins going
through that body. Brother. Anyways, I would just say this,
I I will simply say that whole Colgan was appointment television.

Speaker 2 (04:54):
The number one wrestler for me growing.

Speaker 1 (04:57):
Up, it was. It was exactly that. And I was
a huge wrestling fan in those days. There was nothing
better than a Hule Versus the Warrior for my money.
And you know, man, he was an icon and rest
in peace, Hulk Hogan. That's all I'll say about that.
But again, everybody could feel however they want about the guy.
I'm not gonna argue with you, but he was an

(05:17):
absolute animal in the wrestling world.

Speaker 4 (05:20):
I don't have much to add I mean Hulk Hogan's
significance to me as someone who doesn't follow, never has
followed a lick of wrestling and can confidently say I
never will. Hulk Hogan's significance to me was introducing Donald
Trump at a bunch of rallies and just seeing him
as a as a huge as a huge maga guy.
And obviously I knew his cultural significance. I knew he

(05:41):
was a wrestler, I knew who he was, but I
didn't understand really why he was so culturally significant until
you caught me up right before we got on air.

Speaker 3 (05:49):
Of a lot of the controversies that he was.

Speaker 4 (05:51):
Hit with, and that's some little bit positions that he
put himself in. But still like seems just based on
the reaction to it, like an American I don't know
icon is the right word, but like pronounced the American
figure for good and bad reasons. I don't know much
about him, so I have much to add on it,
but that's it seems like this is a guy where
everyone's going to be having an opinion discussing him because

(06:13):
of how controversial he was since since his death earlier to.

Speaker 1 (06:16):
That, Look, you think a lot of the wrestling community
would be able to get past a lot of it.

Speaker 2 (06:21):
And I think that tells you where he was, because.

Speaker 1 (06:23):
The last time he came out came out, he was
booed relentlessly. And I know it was in LA but
still I think he's going to have that effect type
wherever he was. Maybe in some South, maybe not. But
it's still one of those things where you know, like
if you were to see Hulk Hogan in a bar,
you'd be like, ho lee hell, Like Rick Flair man

(06:47):
met him two years ago or whatever it was when
WrestleMania was in town, and like, he's got a checkered pass,
checkered history, not the best dude you know behind the scenes,
but it still is jaw dropping.

Speaker 2 (06:59):
That's Rick Flair. That's that's what it is.

Speaker 1 (07:02):
Man.

Speaker 4 (07:02):
I know that wou better than that Rick Flair woo
better than I know any other wrestler.

Speaker 1 (07:06):
Yeah. Man, you know, look, I would love to sit
here and say that we all are we We aren't perfect,
nobody's perfect, but there's levels to it. And I think
he'll crossed the line that That's the least I can
say about that. But again for wrestling, Top four, run,
who are you not? Like? Did you ever tune into
wrestling growing up? Did you pay attention? I know you're younger,

(07:27):
much younger than me, but did wrestling ever interest you?

Speaker 4 (07:31):
Salm not really, not at all, honestly, Never like Rock
It was just brock Back, I said, brock Back, rock Lessner.

Speaker 3 (07:43):
Block, brock Lestener. I know the names.

Speaker 4 (07:44):
I know the names just because of being in the
sports world, but I never watched My parents never had
it on TV, so I was never into it growing up,
and and I just never got into it. I mean,
I could give you a bunch of reasons why. I mean,
I know we have a lot of wrestling fans. I
don't want to offend some people. But when I did
get into it, I went or I guess tried to.
The week before the Super Bowl in twenty eighteen, there

(08:05):
was a big I forget it was WrestleMania or some
some wrestling event. John Cena was there, and I went
to that with some friends and I just couldn't get
into it. I mean, just especially watching in person was
even worse. Honestly, like how how just the acting nature
of it and just how fake it is.

Speaker 3 (08:23):
I just, I mean, I get why people like it.
I get it.

Speaker 4 (08:26):
I know that's gonna upset some people. I get why
people like it. I'm just I've never got into it.
I can never see myself getting into it. I like UFC,
like I like combat fighting, but this is this isn't
for me.

Speaker 1 (08:38):
I'm a UFC guy too as well. Unfortunately, Tip they
are way into the political spectrum and that's why I
kind of had to tune out, Like I'm trying to
watch a UFC fight next thing, you know, at the
Republican convention. But regardless of what they Dana White wanted
to do, God bless him. It's his business. He can
do what he wants. I do know this though. Sam
a proud Jewish man, and I just did look up

(08:58):
some Jewish wrestlers. No, I am not I am not
big in the religious world, but this is interesting to
me that I had no idea.

Speaker 2 (09:06):
But you're talking about some legends. First of all, Paul Hayman,
Paul aim Is.

Speaker 1 (09:10):
That's that's a manager whatever. But you know, a little
off the beaten path for people that don't pay attention
to wrestling, but he is a huge figure. Randy macho man,
Savage was jewish, had no idea. Also Goldberg, Goldberg was
a little you know, macho man.

Speaker 3 (09:30):
Right, I've heard the name. Well we can't place a
face two all right, but uh Goldberg, I can tell
you that's a jew for sure.

Speaker 1 (09:39):
Yeah. And Goldberg was a badass. A matter of fact,
he's still out there wrestling, I believe. So that's pretty
cool stuff there, all right, And you lots something every day.
Nice work sam Ostrey joining us here of course, getting
the party started on a Thursday, having some fun daily ticket.
We got a jam packed day of programming free on
the Gambler, That's all I know. Immediately following us last
night episode one, school Classes in Session for all Things

(10:02):

a lot of fun conversation, banter going around on all
things college football. We're gonna be doing that every Wednesday night,
probably around nine o'clock live and then of course have
it for your consumption if you miss anything always. All

(10:25):
of our podcasts are available at FOXPHL Gambler dot Com,
plus a new episode of Swing It and dig It
and a new episode of Football Is King with Nick
McClay and Ryan beefcoil So Jampac day of programming right
here on the Gambler. Keep it locked right here, all right,
let's open up with this Sam because last night again
Phillies keep on moving. Now they did loose to a

(10:46):
three to the Angels. Socks come in. We're looking at
a potential sweep. Had a big time lead. Hey, Suslizardo,
we know what he's capable of, and we also know
what the book is on him that he can't finish
at this point in time.

Speaker 2 (10:58):
And last night was more of the same. Now full disclosure.

Speaker 1 (11:01):
Had a lot going on yesterday when able to really
dial in too much to the details. I trust Mark
Henry Jr. When he says he should have been pulled.
It was the fifth inning, bases were loaded, Lozardo looked
like he was a little bit gassed. Should have went
to the bullpen. With the day off today, everybody ready
to go with the back to back performances by Wheeler
and Sanchez. So I kind of am leaning towards Mark

(11:25):
Henry Junior's take on this that pull them get him
out of there. Fine. I also will push back though,
because I don't believe Luzardo gave up a base hit
in the first four innings, so I think he had
a no hitter going into that inning. He did right,
So you were paying attention a lot closer to me
before we talk about Korra and stealing the signs, which
was just masterful in his part, and how I'm pissed

(11:46):
off at the Phillies about it. But your take on
that Lozardo pulled? Are you okay with with Thompson keeping
him in at that moment? Where do you stand on
that one?

Speaker 4 (11:56):
I think he definitely should have got pulled because you're
looking and going into that fifth thing, fifth inning, and
he is pitching a no hitter. I mean, he has
command of his stuff. He's pitching really well. But the
thing about Lozardo all season is when he gets runners
on base. I don't know if it's a mental thing.
I don't know if he starts thinking about if he's
tipping pitches and that becomes a mental block. But when
he gets runners on base, his command just completely falls apart.

Speaker 3 (12:20):
And that's what you saw happen.

Speaker 4 (12:21):
I mean in that inning he walked four guys and
then eventually gave up the Grand Slam, as we know,
but so I thought he should have been pulled way
before that. Yeah, you're confident what he did the first
four innings, But once you start to see this guy unravel,
and we've seen him in recent outings start to unravel.

Speaker 3 (12:36):
Once runners get on base, you gotta pull the.

Speaker 4 (12:38):
Plug, especially, like you said, with an off day to
day you have a full bullpen.

Speaker 3 (12:42):
The Phillies are off.

Speaker 4 (12:42):
Today, So I don't get how they left him in.
I get giving him the opportunity and letting him try
to finish it out and get himself out of the jam.
But once he starts walking guys and it's clear it's
a mental block at that point he just has no command.
When he gets runners on base, you gotta pull. It's
just the responsible right to do. And Thomson made a
mistake not doing that.

Speaker 1 (13:02):
Yeah, I agree, I kind of, like I said, I
was siding with Mark on that one without having the
opportunity to watch too much. And it comes down to
the specifics exactly what we just discussed with the off
day and what you got in back to back starts
with Wheeler and Sanchez. That bullpen was rested, ready to go,
and sometimes it just takes a little bit to be aggressive.
And that was the right moment for Thompson to say,

(13:24):
you know what, let's move him now. Is that revision
is history on my part, little bit, little bit no
issues saying that whatsoever. Right now what I am irked about.
And I am just furious over this because you saw
the video this morning. Credit to the folks up there
in Boston Sportsdock Radio that cut the clip and Luke Arcaney.

Speaker 5 (13:42):
Posted on his socials, but you have a situation where
Heyesuslzzardo who has been known to give up tipping his pitches,
and you know whether that was a big factor in
his recent struggles a couple of games he had blow ups.

Speaker 2 (13:58):
Whatever, But it was definitely something that was alerted.

Speaker 1 (14:01):
It was definitely something that was discussed, and it was
definitely something that there was changes being made by lazarro
Because you saw the pitching mint Ninja on Twitter, who's
a great social media fall for all things major League
baseball pitching. He had a detailed breakdown I'll retweet it
from my accounts of about two three weeks ago and
I thought it was great significant. You saw the difference

(14:22):
that they made. Now, I don't know what took place
last night. Again, I wish I was down on the level.

Speaker 2 (14:27):
I wish I was able to see this.

Speaker 1 (14:29):
But it's clear as day that the Red Sox knew something.
And in that moment you saw before the grand Slam
was hit, Coorra was literally you should he could have
been down at the Philadelphia.

Speaker 2 (14:41):
International Airport like with the sticks waving like.

Speaker 1 (14:44):
This, you know, waving them in. Now, is there a
chance he's doing nothing? I don't know, but the reaction,
I think gives it away. And as soon as that
ball was popped for a Grand Slam, Cora turns around,
high fives the base coach next door, the co inside
the dugout, and it was clear as day that what
they were trying to communicate worked. It irks the hell

(15:06):
out of me that nobody from the Phillies perspective saw
that what are we doing? Like this is known that
Lizardo was struggling tip and pitches, and you got a
dugout full of people that what are they doing? When
the team is out there on defense, you position the
players and now it's your job to pay attention to
everything else, Like, you can't be sitting on your hands

(15:27):
right now. You are in an unbelievable spot to win
this division. Every game matters, you're going for the sweep,
and here you are just not doing anything, not even
trying to be aggressive with the fact that the manager,
the head honcho for the opposing team, is on the
top of a step, a place that I don't see
many managers, and he's he's literally communicating to whatever it's

(15:49):
the first base coach or the runner on second or whatever,
and they're getting the signal in such fast fashion. It's unbelievable.
It's so good. And when they were able to do
this and it worked and they got to jump on
the pitch and he hits a grand Slam and that
was the difference in the game. A pretty good game,
pretty good game after it was all said and done
as far as entertainment value, but just a tough loss,

(16:10):
a game that the Phillies probably should have won him.

Speaker 4 (16:13):
It's a tough loss because going into the fifth inning,
like we said, Lazardo was pitching a no hitter, and
you get homers from Schwarber Bryce Harper obviously both have
been just unbelievable last few weeks, and also Bryson Scott,
Castianos Jqumultu.

Speaker 3 (16:26):
I mean you got homers from.

Speaker 4 (16:27):
Five of those guys, like the bats showed up, But
it was obviously Lizardo who was put I'm gonna say,
was put in a bad position in a way, because
how do the Phillies leave him in in that moment where, yeah,
everyone saw the clip, Alex Corr obviously calling out his
tip pitches.

Speaker 3 (16:43):
But he wasn't.

Speaker 4 (16:44):
He didn't start tipping pitches with that batter on the
Grand Slam. He was obviously tipping pitchers pitches way before that.
How are the Phillies not identifying that he's tipping pitches
as much as the Red Sox are and saying, all right,
this is getting out of hand. He's clearly tipping his pitches.
The Red Sox have an advantage. We have to That's
what's so responsible, and not about not pulling him because
he had an opportunity to pull him before that, when

(17:06):
it was clear that he was tipping pitches and the
batters were taking advantage of it, and he just had
a disastrous fifth in it. So, yeah, the clip is
pretty clear. If Alex corr is just on the dugout step.
I don't know exactly what works if he's signaling to
the first base coach who's signaling to the batter, or
he's signaling to the guy on second base, whoever he
was signaling to, whatever that clear path was, he was
signaling to the batter of what was coming, and he

(17:29):
read that change up like he knew what was coming,
because he did know what was coming, and he took
Lazardo's change up and just hit it out of the
park because he was tipping pitches. And this has been
a problem for Lizardo for a long time now, so
the Phillies have to do a better job of of
course fixing it for sure, but also identifying when it's
happening within a game. We have to pull him earlier
because now he's at a complete disadvantage and it's not

(17:50):
just that. I think it's been a mental thing for
him to get over the try to get over the
hump of not tipping pitches, because that's what you're seeing
mentally when he gets guys on bas he's at a
disadvantage where he can he might be tipping pitches and
then guys who were on base can actually signal that
to the better and that's that's the problem, because that
becomes a mental thing for him. So now I think

(18:11):
he's thinking so much about not tipping pitches that it's
actually affecting his pitching.

Speaker 3 (18:16):
So it's all just.

Speaker 4 (18:16):
A ripple down effect of tipping pitches. But the Phillies
have to do a better job and Rob Thompson's stat
has to do a better job of identifying that early.

Speaker 1 (18:24):
Yeah, blew up right in his face in the fifth inning.
Six earned runs on the day he did strike out seven.
We talked a lot about that. That was the number
on DraftKings sports books. So unfortunately that to push gave
up the one home run, which is a Grand Slam.
Only two hits total, five innings pitched, and that was all.
She wrote. Wow, what a what a game you saw?

(18:45):
One two, three, four, five, six, seven eight eight total
pitches for the Phillies. Boston pitched eight as well, so
sixteen total pitchers in the game, and of course to
go to extras. And it was a fun game to
be at.

Speaker 2 (18:58):
I would imagine a lot of a lot of runs,
a even.

Speaker 1 (19:01):
Better game the wager around. As far as the total
is concerned, but unfortunately the Phillies did come out with
the loss. I want to do I want to shine
the light on some positives though, because you know, you
do have the Yankee series coming up, which is gonna
be a lot of fun to discuss over these next
few days. But I'm meant to bring this up going
into yesterday's show. Are on yesterday show, going in yesterday's game,

(19:24):
and that's Kyle Schwarber, and of course he had two
big bombs yesterday. Between Schwarber and Harper, Harper hit his
three hundred and fiftieth, which I believe is the youngest
active player to hit the home run milestone. Listen to
that three hundred and fifty. Harper now becomes the youngest
active player to hit the home run milestone, which is

(19:45):
very interesting because I don't what's Bryce thirty two? No,
he's gotta be more than that, right, thirty four thirty two.
He's thirty two s thirty two. He's been in the
game forever.

Speaker 2 (19:56):
He's been in the game, you know, he started playing
a long time ago.

Speaker 3 (20:00):
Prodigy is a teenager.

Speaker 2 (20:01):
Yeah, yeah, exactly, So he hits that number. It's great
to see Harper and the dish doing what he's doing.

Speaker 1 (20:07):
But Schwarberg goes yard again thirty fourth of the season,
And man, I thought that the kid who brought the
blank check to the game the other day was a
genius because that's a that's a picture I'll be.

Speaker 2 (20:19):
Using a lot, and it's the reality of where we're at.

Speaker 1 (20:22):
Like I just don't see Schwarber hitting a wall and
all of a sudden forgetting how to hit bombs. I
think this dude will continue to do this for the
next three, four, five seasons. This is what he does. Man,
he hits bombs and he's been doing it all season
long for the Phillies. It's a ton of fun to watch.
And for my money and literally my money, where I'm

(20:44):
out is he got something from DraftKings, you know, like
they make the at the end of the year with
iTunes and spotify what songs you played throughout the course
of the year. Well they did the first half major
League Baseball, and the number one player I bet on
was Kyle Schwarber. And that's he's right there. Like he
hits bombs, he must return. I want Schwerber back in

(21:05):
the Phillies' uniform. I know we all do, but it's
gotta happen, and I think it will happen.

Speaker 2 (21:10):
But man, it is so fun to watch him just attack.

Speaker 1 (21:12):
And I know he's one for four yesterday, But Kyle Schwarber,
if they didn't have him this year, I don't know
what we're talking about.

Speaker 4 (21:18):
Yeah, he's been unbelievable. I mean, he is on unbelievably
hot streak right now. He just hits the hell out
of the ball. I mean, it's just it's such a
beautiful swing and the second he hits his bat and
you know it's gone, it's just so fun to watch
and the crowd reaction all of it. I mean, he's
thirty two years old. Thirty two years old, which is
on par with most of the Phillies cores like Harper's
thirty two, Cassi's thirty three, JT's thirty four, Trait Turners

(21:39):
thirty two, And obviously there's gonna be conversations of whether
you're gonna break that core up at the end of
this year if things go south in the postseason. Schwarber
has to stay no matter what I mean him, Him
and Harper are the two guys, and I don't think
there's a question that he will Obviously he's not paid
just yet, and fans are saying put out the blank
check because he deserves whatever he wants. And I'm not
saying give him a eight or ten year content, but

(22:00):
the guy deserves all of his money. I mean, he's
on pace this year to break his his career high
and home runs in a season. He's thirty four home
runs a season. The most he ever hit in the
season was forty seven with the Phillies in twenty twenty three.

Speaker 3 (22:11):
So like it's he spent.

Speaker 4 (22:13):
So many years with the Cubs, but he's really gonna
be remembered as a Philly for how awesome he's been
the last four years and his power is just unbelievable.
He deserves every penny that's coming his way, and the
Phillies better send it to him.

Speaker 1 (22:26):
Well, the Phillies will be aggressive here again. Big weekend
series coming up against the Yankees. We know how good
they are, although they were they've been going to ruts.
They're a weird team.

Speaker 2 (22:35):
This year they should be better than what they are.

Speaker 3 (22:38):
They were managers imploding.

Speaker 4 (22:39):
Aaron Boone's imploding in the press commences and on the
media with John Boy Media.

Speaker 3 (22:43):
You see that.

Speaker 1 (22:45):
He's got a good relationship with them. Yeah, so he's
done that before. They've definitely had back and forths before.
I kind of respect it, I do. I've always liked Boone,
I have. I'm not in on the day to day
decision making. I do think like he deserves a ton
of credit to get them to a world series. Like, dude,
I know they came up short. I don't think that

(23:05):
that's viewed in the same manner up there in New York.
I like Boom. I'm not saying he's a perfect manager.
I like Rob Thompson. I'm not saying he's a perfect manager.
Like that's you were talking about.

Speaker 3 (23:15):
Every different personalities for sure.

Speaker 1 (23:17):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, you were talking about like breaking
this crew up if the things don't happen this year.
It's like anything short of a world series. I'm not
sure Rob Thompson's back, But I don't know if that's
the right move either.

Speaker 2 (23:30):
I don't think, you know, a little bit like kind
of the Knicks.

Speaker 1 (23:34):
With Thibodeau situation, where it's like, yeah, you're bringing somebody new.
I don't. I don't know.

Speaker 4 (23:38):
Yeah, but yeah, I'm with you, but I don't think
that would be the answer. I don't want to get
into these hypothetical conversations because hopefully they cliched.

Speaker 1 (23:45):
Yeah yeah, but.

Speaker 4 (23:47):
I'm I'm with you where I don't think Thom's will
be back if there's an early exit, and we can
debate what an early exit actually is for Phillies and
their fans expectations.

Speaker 3 (23:56):
But that wouldn't be enough.

Speaker 4 (23:57):
I mean, that wouldn't satisfy anybody if they're just bringing
back if the bats fall part in the playoffs again,
they can't advance runners in scoring position, and they're just
firing the manager and the hitting coach, these people complain
about him and bring back the same lineup.

Speaker 3 (24:08):
People would not be happy with it.

Speaker 1 (24:10):
No, yeah, I'm with you there, And like you said,
there's a lot of there's TBD with a few of
these players, but they could easily get.

Speaker 2 (24:19):
Better at some of the more important positions.

Speaker 1 (24:20):
And I realized Castianos has some value and maybe the
contract isn't like the worst contract in sports, but I
just need more power from the outfield.

Speaker 2 (24:30):
Man, I'm sick of it. And like we just said.

Speaker 1 (24:33):
With Scherber, it's like, man, if it wasn't for him,
what are we talking about this year? But again, like
you said long way Togo, no need to poo poo anything.
Philly's with the off day, took two and three against.

Speaker 2 (24:42):
The Socks, or a good team in their own manner.

Speaker 1 (24:44):
Oh, by the way, to let you know right now,
the Yankees trail the Blue Jays, who they ended up
losing last night. If I'm not mistaken, the ate a
bunch of errors in that game, but they were up
by a couple of runs and blew it against the
Blue Jays, but they trailed the Blue Jays by four games.
In the American League East, sixty and forty two are
the Jays, which for my money, is the most surprising

(25:05):
team in the first half. Yankees are fifty six to
forty six and the Red Sox are right behind them
fifty five and forty nine. So that's a really good division,
as it always is, Top two bottom. Over to the
National League East to update it, I believe for the
eleventh time this year, the Mets and Phillies have now
doc dode and traded their top of the position top

(25:27):
of the charts in the NL East, and now the
Mets take first place with the victory yesterday, and the
Phillies drop to a half game out and now currently
the second place of fifty eight and forty four Mets
fifty nine and forty four, A bunch of big series
coming up in August, in September, a lot to look
forward to and really looking forward to covering it all. Man,
We're doing a bang up job all season. Let's keep

(25:48):
it going a lot of fun. Staying with the major again. Schwarber,
shine the light on him. Unbelievable to have him being
able to do what he's doing, step up there and
just crush the baseball. Have so we love it.

Speaker 2 (26:00):
Kind of like a softball type player.

Speaker 1 (26:03):
But he's a guy that I would love to have
at the at the dish, two outs, bottom of the ninth,
I feel like he would shine in that moment. Harper
again just being able to do it hitting that home run.
It seems like he's slowly coming back and hopefully he
can remain healthy and if that's the case, that's only
going to help them. Now, thirty first is the trade deadline,

(26:24):
so all eyes are on the trade deadline. What are
the Phillies going to do? They're going to go ahead
and get a bullpen arm. We know that definitely need
some bats. We'll see what happens with that. O'Neil Cruz
was a name that was discussed out of nowhere today
and O'Neil has been a disappointment for the Pittsburgh Pirates,
There's no doubt about it. But what he's capable of,

(26:48):
and I think if you bring a guy like that
in this environment, sky's the limit. I would love to
see O'Neil Cruz. Now here's the pushback. You probably have
to give up a ton, and I don't know if
the Phillies would do that. I don't know if that's
the right move, but just talking to me about O'Neal
Cruz in this environment, yeah, I'd sign up for that.
I'd love to see O'Neil Cruz in the unit.

Speaker 3 (27:09):
But like, would you have to give up a ton?

Speaker 4 (27:10):
Because I mean, he's twenty six at this point, and
he hasn't He's been with the Pirates for almosteth the Steelers,
he's been with the Pirates for five seasons and he
really hasn't produced at the level they would want. So,
I mean, it wouldn't be unbelievable for them to want
to get rid of him and part with them.

Speaker 3 (27:26):
I think he would be a great addition for the Phillies.

Speaker 4 (27:27):
I mean, the Phillies obviously need a center field or
that's that's a big hole that they have to fill.
They haven't gotten great center field play this year, so
getting a guy like O'Neil Cruz would help. He's batting
two nineteen this season, though, so he's not having good year.
And he's a guy who chases a ton and because
of that, he strikes out a ton. So when you're
talking about someone who chases a ton, that's exactly what
the Phillies don't want in their line I'm not saying

(27:50):
they shouldn't target him or trade for him. I think
he could be a good addition in a lineup featuring
Schwarbur and Harper and Cassidy and Statt and all these guys.
But he is a guy that chases a lot, and
that's something that the Phillies have gotten in trouble for
throughout the postseason is chasing, chasing, chasing. That's something they've
strayed away from. So I don't know if you're going
to bring a guy who has the reputation of doing

(28:10):
that into the lineup where you're trying to avoid that.
I do think if you don't have to give up
that much, it's still worth the swing. I mean, you
need center field position right now, and he can fill
some of those holes. So I think it's worth the
swing if you don't have to give up that much.
But I'm not sure the pirates would command that much
of him on the trade market when he's been largely disappointed.

Speaker 1 (28:28):
Well, I think you would have to probably factor in
the reality of how many teams are making that call
for him. And then at the end of the day,
you know we're gonna go ahead and put the Phillies
package versus you know, ex Teams package, So it probably
could get expensive after it's all said and done, so
I wouldn't hold my breath, but man, when I did
see that, and full disclosure for everybody that's not privy

(28:51):
to the Gambler gang chat O'Neil Cruz was a topic
before the home run derby because I was I was
a little surprised by how bad he's been. When Mark
every Junior was very very as he often is, he
was very outgoing about the O'Neal crew stinks, and I
was just like, wait a minute, Like he's got talent.

(29:13):
His numbers are bad, though, but you know man playing
for the Pittsburgh Pirates night in, night out, like yeah,
you know, and then bringing him to a pack ballpark
like this, you know, like I would love to see
what that would be would happen. But you're right, chances
of O'Neal cruise being in the Phillies uniform are probably
minimum at this point in time. But July thirty first,

(29:34):
right around the corner. We are now seven days away.
I believe it is next Thursday, so we'll be live
in studio for the MLB trade deadline. So that's going
to be fun. Hopefully they'll be aggressive against your last
time to improve your roster, not including the minor leagues
anything else on that front. From the Phillies perspective, with
the trade deadline, I.

Speaker 4 (29:53):
Don't think so. I just think the next week is
really important. I mean, the Phillies can't stand pat at
the deadline. It's all in mode right now. You're with
this roster, You're with this corps.

Speaker 3 (30:02):
This is it.

Speaker 4 (30:02):
It's really now or never, because I really do believe
if they fall short, this core will be broken up.
So I think Dave Dombrowski has a responsibility to go
all in, and that means getting some bullpen arms that
you can trust, not just his reasoning the other day,
where you're starting for you guys and you bring starters
into the bullpen and that that's your bullpen relief in
the playoffs. That hasn't worked the last few years. You

(30:23):
need bullpen help. And we need another bat or too,
and O'Neil Cruz. I don't know if he'll be a Philly,
but maybe that would be the answer. But I expect
next week to be very active for the Phillies, and
they should and I think they will go into all
in mode in a way we haven't seen the last
few deadlines.

Speaker 1 (30:39):
I hope, So, I hope.

Speaker 3 (30:40):
So.

Speaker 1 (30:40):
I think the fan base is very opinionated, very vocal
at this point in time. So I think that's starting
to register again. Dombrowski, who knows how long he'll be here?
How long? How old is Dave Dombrowski.

Speaker 4 (30:52):
He's up there in age. He's been around a lot
of teams and executive all over the league.

Speaker 1 (30:56):
Sixty eight sixty eight. Yeah, So again into what they have,
maddingly right, that's underneath them, So they could be kind
of steering the ship towards his direction. If I'm not
getting that wrong.

Speaker 2 (31:06):
I don't believe I am, but if I am correct
me in the chat, you.

Speaker 1 (31:09):
Never know, maybe that has something to do with it,
Like let's let's make it happen. They do have a
couple pieces in the minor leagues that they can float
out there. I know it's going to be a tough,
tough decision either way with some of those prospects, but man,
prospects are prospects. Nothing is guaranteed this team though, with
Christopher Sanchez, with Zach Wheeler and Christopher Sanchez back to back,

(31:30):
you know, you just got back to back starts ten
plus strikeouts from both of those starters.

Speaker 2 (31:35):
They can do that in every one of those.

Speaker 1 (31:37):
Series leading up to the World Series. Man, get you
to another Fall Classic and Sky's the limit and for
my money, Sola too.

Speaker 4 (31:45):
And then you have Areola who's coming back. Hopefully he's
coming back. I don't know if we know exactly, but like,
is he going to be part of that three men rotation?
Is he going to get a lot of bullpen reps?
You you have deep starting pitching and a lot of
optionality to work with when the playoffs come round.

Speaker 3 (31:59):
But Ranger open and Rangers incredible.

Speaker 1 (32:02):
Right, he had a little bit of a hiccup, he
was still on break, but he's a guy that taxes
in the seventh inning right quality starts. This year, I
think he has ten leading the major leagues. Again, just
please be aggressive, do something, get out there, get some
new blood, get some new bats, and I think that
everybody would tie off on that. We'll see what happens there.

(32:23):
Just want to bring this up though, because Major League
Baseball we do talk about the awards a lot, we
do talk about it is open, right. That's another thing
too that applies to Dombrowski and being aggressive at this
trade deadline, is that, like, the American League is wide open.
I don't care. I know that the Tigers are good.
I know that the Ashers are good. I know that
the Yankees made the World Series last year, and the

(32:43):
Blue Jays are playing well right now.

Speaker 2 (32:45):
For my money, I think the American League is wide
open for the taking.

Speaker 1 (32:48):
And for the National League.

Speaker 2 (32:49):
We all have our eyes on the LA Dodgers.

Speaker 1 (32:51):
Of course, Brewers have been on a hell of a
run this year. I think they won eleven straight, just
lost two nights to go to end that streak. There
are some really good baseball teams, no doubt in the
National League, but all eyes on the Dodgers, and I
do want to bring this up because show hey Otani.
All he's done since coming out of the All Star
Break has hit home runs. Man, it's just insane what

(33:13):
this guy is doing. Otani tied the Dodgers franchise record
by homering in his fifth straight game yesterday afternoon, when
he took Twins starter Chris Paddock deep for a solo
shot in the first inning. The last Major League to
go deep in five straight was Aaron Judge last year,
but the Dodgers have only won just two of the
five games during Otani's power surge. It's incredible to see

(33:36):
what this guy is doing. Thirty seven total home runs
this year, and Sam, before the season even started, he
was your slam dunk National League MVP. Just to update
that right now. You can get it if you want,
right now at minus sixteen hundred for showing TONI it's incredible.
He yeah, yeah, I saw somebody making the case because

(34:00):
Harperer hit a home run over the weekend where he
had to go up and like he changed his approach
mid swing and he got it and hit it. And
this dude who's heavily Philly biased. Oh, he's the best
hitter in baseball when he's no, he's not. No, he's not,
And there's nobody. Aaron Judge isn't as good as hitter
as Shoeotani. Shoyotani is the best hitter in baseball, hands down,

(34:23):
and Judge is a freak. But for my money, Shoyotani
is just something I've never seen before.

Speaker 3 (34:29):
Dude, He's unbelievable.

Speaker 4 (34:31):
And the Dodgers actually got swept They've needed him because
Dodgers got swept out of the All Star Break to
the Brewers, and the Brewers now have the best record
in the NL because of that. The Dodgers, I believe,
just won their series over the Twins, so they're back
to playing pretty solid baseball. It's just just a blimp
that every team and even the champions go through throughout
a long MLB season. But you're right about Showy. At Tony,

(34:52):
he's just been incredible. I mean, there's there's just no
slung him down, there's no pitching around him because that
lineup is so deep that that's that's the nightmarish lineup
that everyone's so scared of. In the playoffs, and we
about the Dodgers and why they won last year and
why they're the favorites. I believe still the favorites to
win this year. Certainly entering the year, they had a
really no low number to win the World Series. And

(35:13):
it's because of show Aytani and it's everything that surrounds
him in that lineup, but he's the centerpiece of it.

Speaker 3 (35:18):
He's best tenter in baseball. No question will be done
l MV.

Speaker 1 (35:21):
Pit Yeah, no question at all. And speaking of Aaron Judge,
she's your favorite to win the American League. At minus
six fifty. It's kind of boring between those two, but
that just shows you how good they are. I think
Judge went yard yesterday or the day before, whatever it was.
Kyle Rowley and the incredible start that he had first
half of the season. He's plus three seventy. Schooball interesting

(35:43):
a third favorite as far as the odds are concerned.
At plus nine thousand. It's give these awards away now,
Like even if Aaron Judge or show hal Tony gets
hurt on July to twenty fourth, I still think they
win the MVP Award.

Speaker 4 (35:56):
No not Judge gets hurt for the rest the season. No,
not judge. The cow rally has a decent chance if
he continues. I don't know if he's gonna be a.

Speaker 1 (36:07):
Hell okay, I'll go there. I'll go there. I probably continues. Yes,
then then maybe, I mean you can't.

Speaker 4 (36:13):
You can't reward a guy who's played what is it like,
eighty games?

Speaker 3 (36:17):
Ninety games? Number two rules in the NBA when.

Speaker 4 (36:23):
The NBA, obviously you have to play certain amount of
games to even qualify for awards. But come on, have
the voters ever awarded rewarded guys played ninety games?

Speaker 1 (36:31):
No? Probably not, But I think his numbers are better
than what they were last year at this point in time.
So he is let's see here, like it's just three
forty five batting average. Geeze, man, he is a unicorn.
He's a unicorn.

Speaker 2 (36:48):
Home runs, he's got thirty seven tied for show.

Speaker 1 (36:51):
Hey, he's got eighty four RBIs right now, unbelievable stolen
bates six that's right, he's not just an incredible slugging
seven to seventeen, which is hired in last year seven
oh one on base percent, slightly down from last year

(37:11):
four fifty three to four to fifty eight last year.
Batting average he finished with three twenty two last year.
He's hitting three forty five this year. It's it's ridiculous, dude,
it's ridiculous. He did finish with one hundred and forty
four RBIs and fifty eight home.

Speaker 2 (37:23):
Runs last season. Could very well get to those numbers again.

Speaker 4 (37:27):
Though, Yeah, it's possible, and look, but it's really more
about what the competition does. Like cal Raley started the
year on a historic run through the first half of
the season in terms of his homers, and if he
continues that, I think he he is not gonna catch
Judge if Judge finished out the season, but just a
hypothetical Judges season ended today.

Speaker 3 (37:47):
I don't know how you reward him. But you're right,
he is a unicorn. They're both unicorns.

Speaker 4 (37:51):
And I don't even know how anyone can compete for
these MVPs over the next few years in the AL
or the NL with those two guys in opposite leagues,
as long as they stay healthy, because those two guys
are just it's them two and then there's a massive
gap and then it's the rest of the hitters in baseball.

Speaker 1 (38:07):
Yep, all right, we're gonna be all over it today.
We got a lot to get to real quick if
we can. Just a final note in the world of
Major League Baseball, a couple games going off today won't
waste our time there. Good luck on all your plays,
Phillies once again, Yankees tomorrow up there in the Bronx.
It's a hell of a series to go to.

Speaker 2 (38:22):
I wish I could make those but anyways.

Speaker 1 (38:25):
Just to let you know, the Colorado Rockies, we did
have our attention on them for how bad they were
to start the season.

Speaker 2 (38:30):
Well some more of that, but on the flip side.

Speaker 1 (38:33):
They did win yesterday. They ended up getting their first
shutout in two hundred and twenty games. The Rockies beat
the Cardinals games six nothing. That Oh my goodness, dude,
they won six nothing. They beat the Cards Wednesday for
their first shutout in two hundred and twenty games, snapping
the longest streak without one in Major League Baseball's modern

(38:57):
era since nineteen hundred. Their last shutout was eight nothing
victory over the Padres back on May the fifteenth. In
twenty twenty four. The Rockies have been playing a little
bit better, I will say that, but not gonna get
too carried away. Still fun to take notice of everything
that the Rockies are doing in that pathetic way all
season long.

Speaker 4 (39:16):
Yeah, I can't say I've watched or even follow too
many Rockies games this year for good reason. But there
was a point in time earlier in the year where
I know a lot of people were just betting against
them every single game.

Speaker 3 (39:25):
It was a pretty profitable strategy.

Speaker 4 (39:27):
I don't know exactly what they are on the money line,
if that would still still add up to in the green,
but or in the black, I should say, but just
an awful baseball team.

Speaker 1 (39:39):
Rockies not an action today, So we won't waste your
time on that one.

Speaker 2 (39:44):
All right, A couple quick odds and ends here.

Speaker 1 (39:46):
As Sam as I said, I want to get some
basketball conversation going with you too, especially after the Summer
League wrapping up. Kyle Philipowski, the MVP of the Summer
League there with the Utah Jazz and the winners getting rings.
Interesting stuff there, and I'm not against it, I'll tell
you that on the other side, But I do want
to bring this up because this caught my attention yesterday.

(40:08):
We have a show by the name of Football Is King.
It's hosted by Ryan Beef Coyle and Nick McClay.

Speaker 3 (40:13):
You really enjoying lessons?

Speaker 2 (40:15):
Oh man, those guys are so dialed in and they
hit it all.

Speaker 1 (40:17):
They do NFL, they do college football, and that's why
the title is Football is King. But did you see
the number that was released yesterday? Due to the whole
situation with the Green Bay Packers and the owners and
like they don't have an owner. So that's why where
I think we're privy to some of this information about
the record revenue.

Speaker 2 (40:36):
Share to its thirty two franchises from last year.

Speaker 3 (40:40):
I did not.

Speaker 1 (40:42):
Well, it's got to be good to be Jeffrey Lori
or Jerry Jones or name your favorite NFL owner. The
league sent each team four hundred and thirty two million
dollars as part of the NFL's national revenue sharing from
the previous fiscal year year. That means that the total
handed out was more than.

Speaker 2 (41:03):
Thirteen point eight billion.

Speaker 1 (41:05):
Dollars, a record. Last season, each team received just more
than four hundred million. It is insane the amount of
money that the NFL makes. And you know, like I'm
not opposed to it, Like, hey man, that's that's credit
to them. They built up the league but can we
just get some cheaper prices down at the games? Can
you just look up the fans like, we're not going anywhere.

(41:28):
We continue to make this number climb, but like I
am so cash, don't.

Speaker 3 (41:34):
Have been eighteen dollars on a beer.

Speaker 1 (41:35):
I can't do it anymore. I can't do it. And
that goes for the Phillies, that goes for any of
these sports leagues. Man, And but the link is.

Speaker 2 (41:43):
Ridiculous because you know the day you're getting into you
know what you're going.

Speaker 1 (41:47):
To be trapped there doing. If the people out there
aren't drinking. God bless you, I salute you. My wife
once said that to me. She's like, you got a
drink and go to an Eagles game. I'm like, yeah,
I do, I do. I do. So unfortunately and the
next year, know, you buy around and now you're out
like one hundred bucks. It's absurd. So if you're making
this type of money, can we just get cheaper beer
prices and hot dogs? Yeah?

Speaker 4 (42:09):
I'm not gonna use a brace for president over here.
That's that's the platform you should campaign on. I'm not
gonna disagree. I mean, it's just ridiculous with the prices
have become it not just any any event, not just
sporting events like concerts, all of it. It's just the
prices have just become a third recently. Even you compare
the Eagles tickets like a decade ago to what they

(42:30):
are now, and look that that happens when you win
to Super Bowls and you make three in the last decades.

Speaker 3 (42:37):
So I get it. Of course, people want to see
this team.

Speaker 4 (42:39):
It's been the best organization of football the last few
the last half decade even, so I get it for sure.
But it's also it's also like, let's make these prices
a little more reasonable at the same time.

Speaker 3 (42:51):
But that'll that'll never happen.

Speaker 1 (42:53):
Let's be honest. No, it will never happen, and it could,
it could go a long way. But again, if you
have the wait list for these people that are going
to get as I lost my camera, Am I still
on there? Yeah?

Speaker 3 (43:05):
No, I lost you for a second. Thing.

Speaker 4 (43:06):
I was about to say, I got you, but the
camera's all black.

Speaker 1 (43:10):
Hello, sports fans whatever. I'm not so sure about that.
But you know the beauty is.

Speaker 3 (43:16):
That the battery love before it went off?

Speaker 1 (43:21):
I'm charged. Oh there it is. Well, there's something's going
on all right, Well, anyways, we'll keep it moving here.
Let me just.

Speaker 3 (43:27):
Bring you full full uh, let me full screen.

Speaker 1 (43:33):
Now you won't hear me. So now that you got
to bring it in, all right, So now I'm gonna
have to it's the gremlins in the system.

Speaker 3 (43:40):
So that's when we're not in studio on Thursdays.

Speaker 1 (43:42):
Exactly, all right. I love it. We're coming down to
home stretch anyways here. Bottom line is, yeah, we go
a long way just to reward the fans just a
little bit there some other odds and is real quick
from the NFL as far as the Eagles are concerned.
I love the mentality, the approach Jordana just what he
said yesterday to the media. Of course, Jalen Hurt's talking about,

(44:07):
Hey man, last year was last year. That's what I want.
That's called leadership. Like that's something that I don't know
if we would get from Joelle Embiid if we ever
did win a championship.

Speaker 2 (44:17):
And I hate to say it, but man, that's a
serious approach.

Speaker 1 (44:21):
That's a team that very well I am buying into
going back to back and that ain't easy. Man.

Speaker 2 (44:26):
I love what's coming out of training camp.

Speaker 1 (44:28):
I'llbe a two days in.

Speaker 3 (44:29):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (44:30):
I mean, look, that's the message Nixiearan has been preaching.
And I think that's something he's learned. Like he said,
he's spent and we know this is true. He spent
a lot of time with coaches who have won at
previous stops and are looking to repeat and defend their titles.
And he said he's seeked out all the advice of
a lot of those coaches, regardless of the sport, basketball, baseball, football,

(44:51):
whatever it is, and whatever the level is, college, high school, NFL.
The approach and the mentality of building on a championship,
and that's something that he's been has been preaching, is
turning the page. It doesn't it's not you're not defending anything.

Speaker 3 (45:04):
This is a new year.

Speaker 4 (45:05):
It's completely new chapter in Eagles history. It's the twenty
twenty five season, and you want to win a world championship,
which is a goal every single season that you enter,
regardless of what happened the previous season. And that was
his mentality even last year. Whereas we're turning the page,
we just collapsed. We just had a complete collapse at
the end of the year. My job is on the line,
I'm on the hot seat. People are calling for jail

(45:25):
and Hurts his job. It's a disaster. Everything surrounding us
seems like a disaster. But we're turning the page on
all that and we're on to next season. No matter what.
This is a new season and a new chapter. And
that's the mentality you have to have, whether you fail,
whether you succeed. And that's the right approach of mentality
the Eagles have. And they have such great leadership, and
I trust Nick Sirianni so much. And leadership is really

(45:47):
from the top down when it's the owner that you're
talking about, Jeffrey Loyer, one of the greatest owners in sports,
Howie Roseman, the best general manager in football. Nick Siroanni
a great leader and a great coach, and I've always
been on that train, as you know. And Hurts, who's
a great leader, and just the entire the entire player
led leadership. When Lane Johnson, Jordan Mylatta, whoever. It is

(46:07):
not so many too many guys on the defense end
because those guys are pretty young, but still you have
that leadership there and that's what you that's what you
want to see from this team. Who made a lot
of mistakes after winning a championship in twenty seventeen during
that season, the next two years just snowballed into what
eventually became a disastrous twenty twenty season, and they got
worse every single year. So this is a new mentality,

(46:29):
and Howie rosemight thing is contributing to that mentality where
he learned from that and you start a new chapter.
And this is a new chapter of Eagles football, and
it's pretty exciting with what they've been producing, what we're
hearing from camp.

Speaker 1 (46:41):
Yeah, man, and again two days into it, not gonna
get too carried away with anything that's happening on the field.
A long way Togo. August seventh, first preseason game against
Cincinnati Bengals, they play three. We ain't gonna see much
in preseason, as we.

Speaker 3 (46:56):
All we learn not to see any offensive starter, that's.

Speaker 1 (46:58):
For sure, right, And it's just like, okay, bring on
the Dallas Cowboys to open up the shop, open up
the season.

Speaker 2 (47:04):
So a lot going on, but we're gonna be there
before we know it.

Speaker 1 (47:08):
Anything else as far as Eagles or in the division,
catch your attention. It seems like Dallas is having a
little bit of rough go again with contract situations. Year
in year out, Russell Wilson was named the starter for
the New York Giants. The Commanders are dealing with their
issues with their star receiver not reporting the camp. You know,

(47:29):
division just seems like it's gonna be there for the
take and with everything that's happening, and you know, I know,
winning cures all, but at the end of the day,
it's a new season. It's like, man, get these things right,
and those teams continue to get things wrong.

Speaker 4 (47:41):
Yeah, I'm not complaining about it. The Eagles are sitting
back pretty and all these other teams. Terry McClure in
his contract situation, he's holding out against the against Washington.
You don't know how that's gonna be resolved before the
season starts. You never want those situations, even when you
look at the Bengal situation with Trey Hendrickson and it's like,
you got to figure this stuff out.

Speaker 3 (47:57):
You have an entire offseason.

Speaker 4 (47:59):
Why you're eventually going to pay the guy, You're eventually
going to come to terms. Why are you letting it
sift into training camp and become a distraction for the team.
They're same with the Bengals last year. With Jamar Chase
and that whole Soka. But back to the NFCS for
a second. You have that going on with Washington. You
have Jerry Jones calling out Micah Parsons for being injured
when he's putting his life on the line every single
time he steps on the field for you, and you're

(48:20):
calling them out for being injured and saying he might
not necessarily deserve that paycheck. And the Micah Parsons retweets
a tweet that JJ Watt said pretty much calling out
Jerry Jones for it. So that's essentially Michael Parsons calling
out Jerry Jones for it. So it's just what's another
day in Dallas with just more drama. It can never
be just smooth sailing over there. When Jerry Jones your owner,
He's the gift that keeps on giving for the Philadelphia Eagles.

(48:43):
And then do we really even talk about the Giants.
I mean, we saw what Jackson Dart did his first
day with that pick six. It's the New York Football Giants.
Not much else needs to be said about them. So
the Eagles are sitting back pretty and things look great.
Of course, a lot can change throughout the season. The
NFCS has not had a repeat winner still since two
thousand and four, that's over two decades. You expect this

(49:04):
to be the year because the Egles are the best
team in the conference, but the Cowboys gonna be better,
Jean and Daniels and the Washington are gonna be a
threat to So maybe this is finally the year. But
the Eagles are the clear favorites, the only team that's
not dealing with any drama after a Super Bowl win.

Speaker 1 (49:20):
You're right about that. We're loving it. He is the
gift that keeps on giving down there in Dallas, and
I like some of their offseason moves, and I do
think with the healthy Dac they're going to be a
little bit better, as they often are with him at
the quarterback position. But again, he's the guy that gets
injured from time to time, so we'll see what happens there. Again,
just it's never a boring day in Dallas, just to

(49:41):
let you know. To win the NFC East right now,
the Eagles are minus one thirty Commanders plus two h
five Dallas plus five to fifty in the Giants twenty
five hundred to one or twenty five to one to
win the division quickly on this Justin Fields with a
toe injury and everybody was panicking. Everyone was like, oh
my god, you'd miss the season. It was absurd, but

(50:02):
it really did put a light bulb off of my head.
And the Jets are eighteen to one to win the
AFC East and Bills are your favorite of three to
one at the highest favorite as far as division winners
are concerned. But it is funny to me, Sam how
quickly things have changed in New York where it felt
like just with that situation this morning with Justin Fields
versus the past two seasons with the Jets were like

(50:24):
we were all out on anything New York and just
hoping for the world to collapse on them. But now
it's like people were so upset about Justin Field's being
hurt and like, oh my god, New York is cursed.
And I was wondering, like, do you have a take
on that? Is it more so of the height that
was built up around Rogers and everything that with the Jets,

(50:44):
and it's like, calm down, or do you think people
really like Justin Fields and like what the Jets are
doing with Aaron Glenn. I don't know, It's just a
much different timeline revolving around what that news was versus
the last two seasons with that team.

Speaker 4 (50:58):
Yeah, I think it's expecting has to do with it.
Like when you have Aaron Rodgers are on the team,
the expectations are going to be sky high. Certainly before
he Torey's achilles entering that year, of course, that the
season becomes a disaster four plays in when Aaron Rodgers
tears' achilles, but even last season when he came back,
I think expectations were higher than they should have been
for this Jets team because Aaron Rodgers one of the

(51:20):
greatest quarterbacks to ever play this game of football. So
when he's on your team, you're gonna have expectations. The
Jets have no expectations this season, and Mark Henry said
that he expected them to win nine games, So I
was pretty surprised by that. I mean, I think they
have no chance of winning more than seven or eight games.
I mean, their division price is plus eighteen hundred, the
Bills are minus three hundred, Dolphins plus seven hundred. They

(51:41):
have their own drama they're dealing with, and the Patriots
plus five point fifty, and the Jets are there plus
eighteen hundred. Like I said, so, I don't give any
stock to the Jets being an even decent this season
with Justin Fields. I'm not the biggest Justin Fields guy.
I think he hasn't had a lot of opportunities to
showcase himself. I don't know the Jets are a great
situation to do that either. He might lead them to

(52:03):
a few wins. They weren't going to make the playoffs,
they were not going to compete in that division. But
I think the reaction was another quarterback, just another season
that's ended before it even really started. And the Jets
fans have had such awful luck with their quarterbacks and
just their star players, so I think they just assume
the worst the second you're here that someone's carted off.
I think a toe injury is the best case scenario.

(52:25):
It's not a serious ankle or a knee injury that
could keep him out for the season. We don't know
the severity of it right now, but you don't expect
a toe injury to keep someone out for the entire season.
We'll see if he's even out for the start of
the season. But I think it was just a collective
like here we go again from Jets fans, even if
they don't necessarily expect them to have a successful season

(52:46):
in the sense that they'll return to the playoffs.

Speaker 1 (52:49):
Yeah, I'm right there with you on that one. But
it did feel like it was definitely a little bit
of a temperature change and a timeline. Let's just put
it that way, and I think everyone can feel it
thinking nail with the expectations. All right, Sam, We're gonna
close up shop with a couple quick hitters here and
as I said, Jampack day of programming on the Gambler

(53:09):
coming up next, all things college football crash Course. Summer
school is back in session. We go about an hour
and ten minutes long. I'm gonna break it up the
two parts. You're gonna love it. Trust me to get
you caught up in everything in the world of college
football as we are inching closer to kickoff in that
week zero.

Speaker 2 (53:25):
I believe on the twenty fourth, let's go, but some quick.

Speaker 1 (53:29):
Hitters on the way out here thirty seconds or less.
According to an anonymous Eastern Conference executive, it says VJ.
Edgecomb could be the six Ers second best player by
the end of the season.

Speaker 4 (53:40):
Your thoughts, that's more disrespect to the Sixers than is
actually respect, because that's assuming. And I think it was
in that quote that Joel Embiid and Paul George probably
won't even be playing next season or for large stretches,
which is probably a fair assumption at this point. So
I think that's saying, Okay, when you take those two
guys off the team, there's a chance he could. It's
also high praise for Vicha and he's be awesome, so

(54:00):
I think there's a chance he could.

Speaker 1 (54:01):
Do all right. Penn State was a big topic yesterday
and they will be all the way up. Of course,
we had the Big Ten media day taking place in
Las Vegas and James Franklin not a big fan of
Las Vegas. Go figure. Anyways, the expectations, where's the bar
at for you when it comes to Penn State in
this upcoming season.

Speaker 4 (54:23):
The playoff appearance is they better win the play playoff
or better be in the playoff. Let's start with there.
They should be in the Big Ten title game. The
only real challenge on their schedules Ohio State. And even
if you lose that game, which people will still say
after they lose that game, if they do that, they
can't win the Big one, but if they lose that,
they're still could probably gonna be in the Big Ten
championship game. With one loss, more than one loss throughout

(54:44):
the regular seasons inexcusable. They gotta get over a hump
where it's like you gotta beat a great team. I
know they were in the semi finals last year, but
they had such an easy path to get there. They
have to win a game they're not supposed to win,
and make a run in the playoffs and potentially win
a Big Ten championship. Because this is the best team
James Franklin's had a while, and I was looking at it,
this is the shortest price they've had to win a
national title in well over twenty years. So this is

(55:07):
this is it's now or never. It's put up, our
shut up time for Penn State.

Speaker 1 (55:11):
Number one quarterback in college football. To Sam austria Is, who.

Speaker 3 (55:17):
Like arch Manning, probably like I'm buying the arch Manning hype.
I'm buying into the arch Manning hype.

Speaker 4 (55:22):
I don't necessarily know if he's gonna win the Heisman,
but I think he's gonna be awesome immediately. And we
saw stretches of that last year for Texas, But now
he's had a full offseason of being with his family
and being with Steve Sarkisian and in Texas system. I
think Arch Manning is gonna be the best quarterback in
college football. Not a hot take, but he's that good
all right.

Speaker 1 (55:41):
And then finally over to the NBA, the Clippers reunited
with Chris Paul. Of course, made a bunch of moves.
James Harden should get a lot of credit for giving
up some of the money that he was due or
due to make.

Speaker 2 (55:54):
I'm sure he's gonna get it back in the long run, but.

Speaker 1 (55:56):
Still made some interesting moves. Clippers your thought, Should we
have any expectations for them? Right now?

Speaker 4 (56:02):
Completely overrated? The most overrated offseason out of anybody. I
think losing Norman pal is a much bigger deal than
people realize, because people forget Kawhi Leonard can't play sixty
games in a season. He's gonna play if he's all
best case scenarios, he plays somewhere between fifty and sixty games.
What the Clippers why they were so successful without Kawhi

(56:23):
Leonard last year was because of Norm Palerd an incredible
season last year. He was going to especially the first
few months of the season when Kawhi was out and
Norman Powell was to go to option. He was right
there on the border to make an All Star team
through those first few months. Now you lose Norman Palell,
and yeah, you get depth in that regard. You get
Bradley Beal, Chris Paul Brook, Lopez, John Collins of course

(56:44):
comes in that Norman Palell trade. But you don't have
a guy when Kawhi Leonard's out, he's gonna be out
for long stretches.

Speaker 3 (56:51):
James Harden's getting a year older. This team is just old.

Speaker 4 (56:54):
We saw the Pacers, we saw the Thunder, great great
teams that made great runs throughout the playoffs. Those teams
got young, are really young, and those teams had youth
and athleticism and played with a lot of peace. Clippers
got older. This is not a league where you got it.
You want to be this soul. So maybe if this
was twenty eighteen or twenty seventeen, this team will win
the championship.

Speaker 3 (57:12):
But it's not.

Speaker 4 (57:13):
And I'm not convinced Bradley Beal's is gonna be some
step in and be some great scoring option immediately because
I think he's well past his prime too, so with
Clippers completely overrated offseason, will make the playoffs, but people
are crowning them like they have a chance in the West,
which I don't see at all.

Speaker 1 (57:28):
Right, we will end on some breaking news. It looks
like Lonnie Walker's run with the seventy six ers is
coming to a buyout. Close here, he's heading to the
EuroLeague power This is in your neck of the woods,
because I know you've detailed this team over there.

Speaker 2 (57:42):
If I'm not mistaken, the tel Aviv.

Speaker 3 (57:45):
Macabeeb mccabi tel Aviv. If he's going to mccabi tel Aviv.

Speaker 1 (57:50):
Mccaby sorry, mccaby tel Aviv.

Speaker 4 (57:53):
Yes, his agent see right now he's signing with the
Kaby tel Aviv.

Speaker 3 (57:56):
Awesome, awesome.

Speaker 4 (57:57):
You know they're having a very difficult time getting played
right now. It's not exactly hard to see why, but this.

Speaker 3 (58:04):
Is pretty good. This is a huge move for him.

Speaker 4 (58:05):
I mean, he'll be one of the best players in
the EuroLeague immediately and ma Coabi tel Aviv is always
a power, so great move for both guys.

Speaker 1 (58:13):
Nice, very cool stuff there. I know. Donnie Walker got
a lot of buzz on the timeline when he did
sign with the seventy six ers last.

Speaker 4 (58:18):
Year, I expected him to be a better NBA player
than his career ended up being. He always had the talent.
Philly guy too, I believe went to Redding.

Speaker 3 (58:28):
Could be wrong about that.

Speaker 1 (58:29):
I think you're right to it.

Speaker 4 (58:30):
Yeah, Philly guy had a great college career. I thought
he was gonna have a better NBA season for whatever reason,
hasn't worked out.

Speaker 3 (58:37):
But he'll get paid a lot over in Europe.

Speaker 1 (58:39):
All right, you want to see my poison, ivy.

Speaker 3 (58:42):
Do I let's see it. That is a fat foot.

Speaker 1 (58:46):
No, I'm not gonna show you.

Speaker 3 (58:47):
You know I sawtorry that foot is blown up.

Speaker 1 (58:51):
Getting better. It did, It's getting better. The problem was
it was getting better. And then I went out and
played in a golf outing and I don't know what happened,
but it was not good for me at the time.
And then I came.

Speaker 3 (59:03):
Home and everything playing golf.

Speaker 1 (59:06):
No no, no, I wasn't And that was And then
the crazy thing is, for the people that care about this,
probably not too many. I started getting these welts all
over my body, and I'm like, I thought, this stuff
isn't contagious. You know, the doctor wanted no parts of me.
Yesterday I sat down, Oh, I sat in his office
and he's like, yeah, yeah, you can go down. And

(59:28):
I'm like, gee, dude.

Speaker 3 (59:29):
Like contagious. When I look it up, it says it's
not contagious.

Speaker 1 (59:33):
That's what they say. And then you know, like I said,
I got a spot here underth my arm. I got
it on my cheek right, But it's all going away now.
I'm getting better. I promise you.

Speaker 3 (59:43):
Staying away from the family they want no parts of you.

Speaker 2 (59:45):
Well, you know they're all right, but that's about as
far as I'll take it.

Speaker 1 (59:49):
Let's just put it that way. I will be back.
Boss Man told me literally stay home this week. He goes,
all right, I don't want to see you this week.
I'll see you next week. I'm like, good, good deal here, Baul.
Thank you awesome stuff. Sam. Once again, we can find
you at the score s O S H T R Y.
Just don't check them out for wrestling and you will
be good to go on that one. Sam Austrey the best.
