Number one on your car radio preset hand the new
and improved iheard radio w D y S and w
D two seven Bring d Philadelphia is Fox Sports Radio
the Gambler.
Speaker 2 (00:45):
Anyway, we go, Good afternoon, everybody Daily ticket with you
on a Tuesday, Seanbrais and Kyle Fisher from the Jump
once again represent the folks over at the Philadelphia Sports Network.
Speaker 3 (00:59):
Great to have you, Kyle on a Tuesday.
Speaker 2 (01:01):
A lot to discuss, of course, NFL on the mind,
a lot of cuts happening, some trades that took place
over the weekend. As far as Howie Rosebud and Eagles
are concerned. I want to get your take on all
of that college football and of course the Phillies losing
on the road to the New York Mets. See, Kyle,
how are we doing today, sir?
Speaker 4 (01:23):
Doing pretty well?
Speaker 5 (01:24):
Sean? Thanks.
Speaker 4 (01:25):
I know we're normally Wednesday guys, but I like this
Tuesday slot.
Speaker 5 (01:27):
It's been working for us.
Speaker 4 (01:28):
So, you know, feeling good on a Tuesday, and hey,
can't love to talk to you, and then can't wait
to get out and enjoy some of this nice weather too.
Speaker 3 (01:37):
Amen.
Speaker 2 (01:39):
Yeah, look, we got Labor Day coming up here, and
of course everybody is looking forward to that Friday. But
you know, it's an important series right now for the Phillies,
and I think we need to be paying attention to
it a little bit.
Speaker 3 (01:53):
More, if that is possible.
Speaker 2 (01:55):
But I know everybody was watching yesterday and right now
everybody's coming up with the talking points of like, oh no,
this is what the Mets needed all of a sudden,
They're gonna turn our season around. And I'm not here
to say that the Mets are going to be a dissester.
They're not going to make the playoffs. But come on, man,
it was just one game. They play one sixty two
we've have we not done this enough. Ugly game though,
(02:16):
and there's some question marks that are questions that need
to be raised, specifically Romano. Why is he still on
this roster? Everybody told me he was getting cut at
the trade deadline. He's still here. He obviously does not
have it. Why do they continue to have him out there?
I will ask you that question. Uh, the microphone situation
(02:38):
with Alec Bohm up there, I always thought that that
was I thought that was funny. Why not, you know,
But of course it starts and ends with the fact
that the Phillies had an opportunity to go up to
City Field and exercise the demons and get a victory,
and with Christopher Sanchers on the mound, they did anything
(02:59):
but that.
Speaker 3 (03:00):
It was just a bad game in general.
Speaker 2 (03:01):
Sanchez getting roughed up a little bit there, and the
bats going silent, not coming through with runners in scoring position,
and oh, by the way, the Mets did and that
was the difference in the game for my money, Your
take though on yesterday's game, and again it was only
game one.
Speaker 3 (03:17):
Obviously, we want to win them all.
Speaker 2 (03:19):
I was sitting here saying that they're gonna sweep them,
They're gonna have a ten game lead after they leave Queens.
Speaker 3 (03:24):
Was not the case. Tough one last night.
Speaker 2 (03:26):
It ended up getting really really ugly final score thirteen
to three. Your big takeaway on last night's game was what.
Speaker 4 (03:32):
Though, Yeah, for whatever reason, New York seems to be
a problem for them recently. You know, back in the
utly Rollins Howard era, they seem to own New York
and it seems to be a little bit of the opposite.
As of lay, They've lost nine to ten up there.
Now the players and the coach are going to tell
you that that's not a problem and that they don't
(03:52):
see it.
Speaker 5 (03:53):
But if they.
Speaker 4 (03:55):
End up catching up somehow and making this a thing
and they want to all of a sudden you have
to play some home games up there instead of having
the advantage yourself, it's a pretty serious issue if you.
Speaker 5 (04:06):
Can't win up there for whatever reason.
Speaker 4 (04:08):
Now that it goes hand in hand, every team is
better at home, but the Mets are especially good at home,
and they're especially rough on the road this year. So yes,
the Phillies have are really good at home as well,
but their road numbers at least seem to be above board,
whereas the Mets kind of are almost Jekyl and Haidish
when you look at their home and road numbers. The
(04:30):
big thing for me was the runners and scoring position.
You can take the drama away, you can take the
rival cleats away, you can take the shiny microphone away,
you can take the wise Jordan Romano coming out of
the bullpen in a close divisional race game. All of
that doesn't matter. If they hit with runners in scoring position,
it's a very different game. They were one for nine
with runners and scoring position despite being up three nothing
(04:52):
in the game. I think at one point it just
started to get away from you. But if they keep
the score closer, it probably doesn't start to happen that way.
Speaker 1 (04:59):
You know.
Speaker 4 (04:59):
I think every everybody started to let their frustrations mount,
And to me, that screams of a team that while
they don't feel like there's a problem playing in New York,
it's starting to get to them that they can't win
in New York. And I don't know that. I bet
if you ask everybody in that locker room, all twenty
six guys, every clubhouse attendant, every coach, they're gonna make
there's no such thing as an issue with us playing
(05:21):
in New York. But until you prove us otherwise, I
don't know how you can't see the frustration from last
night and start to think that yourself.
Speaker 2 (05:29):
Yeah, look and back at it this evening. But we
know what the schedule is. And I, for my money,
I would say that the Mets dug themselves too much
of a hold to catch the Phillies with five weeks left,
and now they're trailing by six games. But if they
do get the next two right, and then there's a
four game series coming up against the Phillies, anything is possible,
(05:52):
So you need to figure out how you can find
a way to win a game. And then, like I said,
if you listen to this show yesterday, I did think
there was a chance in hell that Sanchez was not
going to step up for that moment. Was there anything
in your mind that he could have done differently? How
disappointed with you with his start last night.
Speaker 4 (06:11):
I would have liked to have seen a little bit
more poise after that that odd inning where he had
the the bak where his foot got stuck, and then
he threw the wild pitch and then he comes off.
He ends up getting out with minimal damage, comes off
the field and really showed his emotions, which isn't something
you see out of him a lot, except for the
end of games.
Speaker 5 (06:29):
He typically keeps his cool throughout.
Speaker 4 (06:30):
You know, you'll see him get fired up at the
end of an outing or when he's in the seventh
throwing his hundredth pitch, so it's assumed that it's the
end of his outing. You'll see him get pretty fired
up with big moments like that. But to go the
other way, which is something that leaders on this team
have criticized other younger members of the team for in
the past showing emotions. This guy goes and shows a
lot of emotion and then has to go back out
there on the field and perform again. Maybe that's an
(06:51):
opportunity where Topper could have, Hey, you know.
Speaker 5 (06:54):
Let's go to the bullpen a little earlier.
Speaker 4 (06:57):
Like he's teased in the last couple of weeks, he's mentioned,
you know, as a way to save some of these guys.
Maybe if they're getting into a little bit of trouble
despite my trust, and then that's an opportunity to give
them a little bit extra rest.
Speaker 5 (07:07):
And he doesn't do that.
Speaker 4 (07:09):
Sanchoz goes back out, gets a little roughed up, and
they have a reliever coming in with some with some
traffic on the base pass already, which is never a
good situation, let alone for a guy who's been struggling
like Romano mass Yeah.
Speaker 2 (07:20):
Look, Dave Phillies opened up three nothing lead, and I'm
saying to myself, all right, that's exactly how I thought
that this game is gonna play out. And then all
of a sudden, the Mets just went on their run,
scoring three in the fourth, one in the fifth, two
in the sixth, four and the seventh, three in the
eighth and they were blanked in the ninth.
Speaker 3 (07:36):
Oh that's right. They didn't play in the bottom of night. Hey, now, yeah, exactly.
Speaker 2 (07:40):
But grief did that game get away from him? And
all you gotta do is bury to tape.
Speaker 3 (07:44):
That's it. You can't talk about it. You got to
move on.
Speaker 2 (07:47):
And heyesus Solizzarda was on the mound this evening minus
one fifteen seam and I on the mound. Four the
Mets at minus one oh six eight is your total? Look,
you know, the Mets. We were talking a little bit
about this yesterday and it might surprise some people, but
go back to mid June, they had the best record
in baseball.
Speaker 3 (08:05):
This is a good lineup. This is a damn good lineup.
Speaker 2 (08:08):
And I felt like it was kind of a little
bit of a morgue at that stadium last night. I
didn't really feel like from the television screen for my couch,
I didn't feel like I had some juice. So I
just thought it was going to be, you know, a
little bit easier for the Phillies to go up there
and find a way to win the game.
Speaker 3 (08:22):
But this is an opportunity that.
Speaker 2 (08:25):
They need to go ahead and fulfill here because as
we said, the six game lead for the division. You
got two up there at City Field that are left
and then four coming back. So there are plenty of
games between the two teams, and anything is possible if
you guys are going to d to ed, which is
one of the big reasons why I was saying possibly
coming back after Monday Tuesday Wednesdays game, they would have
(08:48):
a ten game lead in division.
Speaker 3 (08:49):
Shame on me. But Christopher Santez is going, my goodness,
let's go.
Speaker 4 (08:53):
Yeah, you know, it's a pretty safe assumption. I mean,
I had the opportunity to talk to Cole Hamil's about
the loss of Zach Wheeler earlier this week, but he
really complimented Chris Sanchez. He said, you know, it's a
little bit easier to swallow the pill of losing your
top guy when you have another number one right behind him.
Speaker 5 (09:13):
He's a guy who's in the cy Young race.
Speaker 4 (09:15):
He's an ace pitcher, he is a future leader of
this rotation, and that's a guy that you can lean on.
And I think that there maybe internally with the fan
base and almost felt like this was the moment he
had to prove it. Now. He also has five six
weeks to continue to do what he's done all season.
He's proved all season and all last season that he
can be that guy. It just feels like, oh man,
(09:36):
the first time without Wheeler in a big moment. For
him to falter feels like a gut punch. But there's
plenty of baseball left and this is a team full
of veterans who know how to win and know how
to move past things.
Speaker 2 (09:48):
Why do they continue to use Romano? That's the big question?
And should they?
Speaker 4 (09:55):
I mean, they've talked all season about how the bullpen
was taxed early and then you use a lot of
the rotation to go a little bit deeper and then
as a result, the rotation get gets a little banged up.
So you need to then rely on that bullpen again.
And if they're not, really I don't think it's a
top or call to DFA this guy. So as long
(10:17):
as he's in the bullpen, he needs to use him
in order to balance everybody else. And maybe you could say, hey,
why not just go to Alvarado, use the guy as
much as possible.
Speaker 5 (10:26):
You can't use him in the postseason, but that's hit.
Speaker 4 (10:29):
They want Alvarado in a spot where he can really
shut the door later in the game. Romano's role has
been clean up. He just hasn't done it well. I mean,
he's officially at the spot where he has I think
the worst eer in Philly's history for a relievers.
Speaker 5 (10:44):
It's for a qualified reliever.
Speaker 4 (10:46):
It's not a pretty picture, and it, like you, it
was a great signing. There's no such thing as as
a bad one year deal in sports, especially in baseball.
It's easy to move past it. You saw them do
it with You saw them do it with who wasn't
with Maryfield last season. You saw them do it with
Corey Kanabel a couple of seasons ago. But ultimately, it's
(11:10):
like it gets to a point where can you justify
having him out there anymore? And you know, like I said,
Topper's gonna use him when he needs to because he
needs to make sure that his other guys stay healthy
and they're not overworked. But at the same time, is
it's a net negative value every time he's on the mound.
It doesn't work out, and it's it's been a really
(11:30):
rough watch for a little while now. So for you know,
Topper's doing what he can and he's a players manager.
He's going to defend him no matter what he's going
to talk about. Hey, you know, yes he left some
balls over the middle, but he also through ninety seven
tend the inning. So I always take Topper's words with
a green of salt because he's such a good players manager.
It's not on him to decide whether Vermano's on the
team or not.
Speaker 5 (11:50):
If he's there, he has to use.
Speaker 3 (11:51):
Them, all right.
Speaker 2 (11:53):
We've got Kyle Fisher on a Tuesday here. Of course,
Phillies ended up losing last night. Tough one across the board.
Always something that when it feels like these two teams
get together, though, So we got plenty of B list
material to get into.
Speaker 3 (12:05):
And is there anything there with the microphones? You know?
Speaker 2 (12:10):
Twenty seventeen is what Ricky bow is telling me. That
these things were up there all along since twenty seventeen,
twenty nineteen. And Alec Boham has an issue because he
grounds into a double play. I thought from the broadcast
perspective they did the one did look a little shiny,
and I'm like, well that.
Speaker 5 (12:25):
That's way shiner than the other one.
Speaker 3 (12:27):
That's ridiculous.
Speaker 4 (12:27):
They ended up taking both down correct and Topper made
a good point, He's like, it didn't affect us when
Senga was in the game because it's coming from the
other side on the left. He starts coming out here
right where the shiny one is. It's and Topper even
said he said it looked like it was a little more.
Speaker 5 (12:42):
Turned than usual.
Speaker 4 (12:44):
So I know Ricky Bow wanted to go on his
rant and he's good at it, and that's part of
the deal with that show.
Speaker 5 (12:49):
And God to respect Ricky Bow. He knows way more
ball than I do.
Speaker 4 (12:52):
But the fact of the matter is if it had
bothered them before, they would have pointed it out in
the years past. Clearly something was different today because me
and you both just said that we saw it. Ruben
Tomorrow said that he saw it when they showed the replay.
Tom McCarthy said that he saw it when they showed
the replay. And those aren't Yes, they are the hometown broadcasters,
(13:13):
but those two guys will be honest when they need
to be. They may be a little you know, I
don't know if they might dance around it like I
do sometime, Sean, but usually it's either full support or
they dance around when they're unsure about how to approach
it and it was full support yesterday, and that replay
showed pretty clearly to me that there was some shine.
Maybe it probably shouldn't have taken that long. Maybe the
(13:34):
ground screw could have went out there and pulled the
thing down quicker.
Speaker 3 (13:36):
Yeah, or a fan.
Speaker 5 (13:39):
Well, now, all of a sudden, you.
Speaker 2 (13:41):
Get in trouble if you take just reached over and
grabbed the damn thing. I was saying already it was ridiculous. No,
you're right about the the Tom McCarthy and Kruk, and
I thought.
Speaker 3 (13:50):
This was great yesterday.
Speaker 2 (13:52):
Did you happen to catch now if you're watching the
broadcast the uh stump, the fan trivia and the four
fourth dying And it was Dwight good in reference when
he won twenty games at the age.
Speaker 3 (14:04):
Of whatever he was whose record did he beat?
Speaker 2 (14:07):
And it was a gentleman by the name of Bob Feller,
a pitcher, and they called him bullet Bob.
Speaker 3 (14:14):
Right now, I.
Speaker 2 (14:15):
Did not know this, So here's the t Max starts
talking about it. When the question was asked, He's like, oh,
I think I know this. In the fourth inning. As
a matter of fact, this guy used to come and
hang out with me when I was in the minor leagues,
I think Trent and Thunder, and he would come into
my office and we would talk baseball. And so he
starts waxing a little bit poetic about bullet Bob. Bullet
Bob passed away. Oh by the way too, we don't
(14:36):
want to talk ill about the dead. But he'd pass
away in twenty ten. So whatever it is, eighth inning,
seventh inning. They give the answer, and Kruck, when he
found out who it was, he was like, oh, man,
I don't like that guy.
Speaker 3 (14:52):
Oh I don't like that guy.
Speaker 5 (14:54):
I didn't see that far. I didn't see I did
talk about not liking him.
Speaker 3 (14:59):
Is dead and t mac buttered him up nice. Oh yeah.
He came to my office and Cruck's like, yeah, I
don't like that guy.
Speaker 2 (15:07):
And he told a story about how he was in
minor leagues and he asked him for an autograph because
he said his dad was a fake. He said his
dad used to drive from West Virginia to Cleveland to.
Speaker 3 (15:16):
Watch him pitch.
Speaker 2 (15:17):
And the dude, bullet Bob Feller said yeah, you got
twenty bucks, I'll sign an autograph for you.
Speaker 3 (15:22):
The John cruk oh I was dying I was dying
right away.
Speaker 4 (15:28):
Mac was like, are you sure he signed so many? Yeah,
he's such a great guy.
Speaker 5 (15:34):
Cruck is the best guy.
Speaker 2 (15:36):
Cruck's the best. In the beginning, I thought Cruck was
a little over the top. I could deal without the
pom poms from time to time. But I you know,
that's the worst that you get with it. That's fine.
But he is entertaining and he is real. And when
he told that story, oh I don't like that guy.
You never hear anybody say that. Nobody ever says they
(15:58):
don't like anybody on television. Not one time I ever
heard someone say I don't like that guy. Cruc did
last night. I thought that was tremendous.
Speaker 4 (16:05):
This is the same guy who regularly talks about like
his wild West Virginia adventures and finding dead bodies and
like all kinds of crazy knots being arrested and chased
over state lines, all kinds of craps. Be the least
surprising thing nowadays is him saying I don't like full
of Bob. That's it's par for the course at this point.
Speaker 2 (16:23):
All right, So we won't get into next year's twenty
twenty six schedule too much.
Speaker 3 (16:29):
I do want to know? Do we have the Minnesota
Twins field a Dreams game.
Speaker 4 (16:33):
They don't have a specific date, but that they're playing
the Twins that weekend of the August fourteenth, of the sixteenth.
I already looked for flights and they don't plan flights
that far now.
Speaker 3 (16:43):
No flights. You could get a hotel room though.
Speaker 4 (16:46):
Yeah, probably, well yeah, I'm probably gonna do that. Book
the hotel now and then plan a little trip where
you can hit a couple of stadiums out there and
make sure you catch that one on the way.
Speaker 3 (16:54):
How do I get invited? Man? How do I get
in that?
Speaker 1 (16:56):
You know?
Speaker 4 (16:57):
Maybe maybe I'll make it. Maybe I'll make it a
big group.
Speaker 3 (17:00):
Let's go group for we wanna have a catch? I
wanna have a catch.
Speaker 5 (17:04):
Milwaukee is what I'm thinking.
Speaker 3 (17:08):
No, we're cooking. I like that, all right?
Speaker 2 (17:10):
Kyle Fisher with me here on a Tuesday, last one
from last night. I have no issues with this at all.
I know that people are outraged and it doesn't take much,
especially after a loss of the Mets. But Harper in
his opposing UH pack, I believe he's calling it his
h his rival pack. That's what it is. Which look, man,
(17:33):
you gotta you gotta reinvent yourself. He's out there to
sell merch, right like Bryce Harper's got cleats, He's got spikes.
It's marketing one on one. And he came up with
the rival pack and he said, going into some of
these stadiums, some of these away teams, I'm gonna, you know,
wear some different cleats that are their colors. And yeah,
Harper's not shy in that department, from the fuzzy fanatic
(17:58):
elbow pads to of course the shing guards, to anything
and else. You know this dude, We knew from day
one that he was way over the top in that category.
So I have no issues whatsoever. But people are like anybody,
but the Mets, I don't know.
Speaker 4 (18:12):
Well, it's a tougher pill to swallow if he you know,
when you lose thirteen to three, and people felt like
he made some mental mistakes along the way that he
did it.
Speaker 5 (18:24):
If he comes out.
Speaker 4 (18:24):
And goes bonkers at the plate the next two days
wearing the same colors, like, Okay, you're gonna look back
at this series, letter man. Okay, remember when Harper wore
the black and orange and went in there and Toore
New York up. It's it's all about immediate reaction. I
know that that's what social media is, but it's a
cool idea.
Speaker 5 (18:41):
I support.
Speaker 4 (18:42):
The guy does a lot of different stuff and kind
of has turned marketing into his own thing. And oh yeah,
instead of having one consistent shoe, he kind of releases
these limited edition things.
Speaker 5 (18:50):
It's cool for collectors, it's cool for him.
Speaker 4 (18:53):
It's you know, he's a star in the league and
sometimes you got to do things to stay relevant. That's
a pretty cool thing that he's doing. If they get
swept this week, maybe you put that on the back burn.
Speaker 2 (19:03):
Yeah, the Arrival pack. Yeah, I'll tell you what you
could do with that rival pack. Bryce, Yeah, that was
a bad job. That was some little league stuff out there,
Like if you're chasing them to the next base, get
it out of your hand immediately because that is a
no no. And then all of a sudden, he put
Bryce and Stott in a tough position to grab the
ball come down with it. It was just an ugly game.
(19:25):
It's one time to move on. Let it go on
to the next one.
Speaker 3 (19:28):
He started. It's it. That's all you can do, all right.
We will come back to tonight's game.
Speaker 2 (19:33):
As I said, Lizard around the Mount, we'll talk a
little bit more about some props and see if we
can find some winners there for the people. Oh, by
the way, a little bit later in this hour, Kyle
and I are going to talk about some storylines for
the NFL, as well as the trades that went down
with the Eagles over the weekend. Some big news in
the NFL as far as players being signed, and Michael
Parson's still unhappy in Dallas. Thumbs up, thumbs up. If
(19:55):
I pined you down right now, does he play in
that game against the Eagles on there nine days away?
Speaker 4 (20:01):
I feel like, I feel like if Jerry doesn't make
that happen somehow, it's it's a massive failure. I think
he's a guy who's gonna stayin enough shape where maybe
he doesn't play as many snaps as he normally would,
but I think he can get out there on the
field if they get something done. If they don't, he's
he's been pretty staunch about not going out there. So
if you're making me pick one, I'm gonna say no,
(20:22):
just because of how a lot of the things have
gone in Dallas recently. But it wouldn't surprise me if
you know, next Monday they're getting a deal done. All
of a sudden, he's playing thirty percent of the Snaps
by Thursday.
Speaker 2 (20:32):
Yeah. I don't know what he's doing behind the scenes,
but he's not practicing. Obviously I would be I'd be shocked.
If he's playing nine days from now, I would be.
Speaker 3 (20:41):
Yeah, I'd be shocked. Surprising, Yeah, it'd be uh.
Speaker 2 (20:44):
Right now, I'm gonna say he does not play, and
for my money, that is at all time fumble. But
Jerry Jones is doing it his way and he is
screwing this up and then some. But we'll see what
happens there, which is always Even the.
Speaker 4 (20:56):
Bengals figured their situation out and we talked about it
earlier in the offseas, and they have had some rough
situation there recently.
Speaker 5 (21:02):
So for them to figure it out in time and.
Speaker 4 (21:04):
Jerry still drag his feet is a little embarrassing for
the Dallas Cowboys, all right.
Speaker 3 (21:08):
But before we get on over to the gridiron, more
from the Diamond.
Speaker 6 (21:11):
The three to two other win of cow swinging a
well hit ball deep the left field head into the
upper deck, state bear ou per deck. Goodbye, Baseball, not
for fifty. For cal Raley, he becomes one of only
thirty three members of the fifty home run club, and
(21:31):
he reaches the upper deck like he did with home
run number forty eight yesterday, forty ninety crushed off the
Janna Zad scoreboard and the magical season just contissues for
cal Rawley ho he smokes.
Speaker 3 (21:46):
What a shot.
Speaker 2 (21:47):
Mariners Radio and Network on the call of course, cal
Raleigh going yard yet again, what a season, what a performance,
And what he's doing as a switch hitting catcher is
just unbelievable.
Speaker 3 (22:01):
It really is.
Speaker 2 (22:01):
That's the only word I have for It's just unbelievable
for him to get up there and do exactly what
he's doing. And these pictures know that if you get
it anywhere near the play, he's got a good shot
at knocking out of the park. Right now, the ball
is as big as a beach ball, and what he's
doing is just so remarkable. Again, the history historical backing
(22:22):
behind it. As we just said, fifty home runs in
a season. He is now joined Mickey Mantle as the
only switch hitters with fifty home runs in a season
and became the eighth player in Major League history to
reach the half century mark in August. He is also
the first to smack at least twenty home runs from
each side of the plate in a season. So there
(22:44):
was an article I was reading earlier, like, yeah, if
he gave him the thirty home runs from one side
of the plate and put that on this team or
that team across the league, what it would do for
their offense. Of course, everybody ball goes boom, you score runs.
That's always a good thing, right most of the time,
it's going to lead to victories. I saw a stat
over the weekend from the Yankees when they hit a
home run. It's just unbelievable what they're able to do.
(23:06):
As far as win loss is a concern, it seems
like they hit a home run in a lot of
their games, just threw up another ten spot.
Speaker 3 (23:12):
As now they have found their winning stride.
Speaker 2 (23:14):
But cal Raley, of course, when you start to talk
about mister Raley, you got to start to discuss the
a L MVP and Kyle here we are right now
on August twenty six. We have discussed this a few
times on this show, but this is one of those
awards that everybody should be caught up in everybody should
have a take on You know, yesterday Luke ran I
(23:38):
was gonna pull this out because he is hell bent
on Judge's numbers and the season he's having is incredible.
But you have to put yourself in the voters' shoes.
Will they a have voter fatigue with Aaron Judge? Will
they view the long ball differently? What will Judge's numbers
We don't know. What will they be after it's us
(23:59):
and we don't know. But right now Cal Rolly even
money to win the al MVP Aaron Judge minus one thirty.
So I ask you, Kyle Fisher on August of twenty sixth,
if you were a voter and you had to vote today,
who are you checking the box next to him?
Speaker 6 (24:15):
Man?
Speaker 4 (24:15):
It is really really difficult to pick against Aaron Judge.
His numbers are outstanding, not only the power, the average,
the walks.
Speaker 5 (24:26):
Everybody's scared of him.
Speaker 4 (24:27):
His numbers might be even better if people pitch to
him as often as they do Cal, which is becoming
a mistake clearly across the league unless.
Speaker 5 (24:34):
You're the Phillies.
Speaker 4 (24:34):
Will get to that a little later, but Philly is
basically one of the only teams to keep that guy
in check this season. But man, it's it's really tough
to I'm a big proponent of.
Speaker 5 (24:46):
The entire game.
Speaker 4 (24:47):
And while Judge has really good defense out there and
a great arm in the outfield, and he plays almost
every day, Raleigh is the reigning Platinum Glove winner in
the American League, likely when the Gold Glove again, at
the toughest position and possibly most important position on the
field outside of pitcher, in all of baseball. So for me,
(25:07):
you take in the fact it's not like he's hitting
two twelve like Schwerber did before hitting forty plus. He's
hitting in two fifty plus a lot of RBIs. He's
basically carrying this team, which everybody thought was going to
be a little bit better. He's carrying them to a
playoff position right now. Up in Seattle. A lot of
people like that franchise. It's an easy he's an easy
(25:28):
guy to fall in love with. First ever catcher to
win the home run Derby. It's it's impressive what he's doing.
I would have to lean again. I know you're gonna
pin me up against the wall. Make me pick one. Yeah,
if I had to pick today, I would vote for Raleigh.
But that's me personally. I think overall, Judge's season is
probably more impressive, and it wouldn't shock me at all
(25:49):
if the voters swing his way. But it doesn't matter
how it ends, right, If the Yankees end up on
the outside of the playoffs and the Mariners end up in,
that might be.
Speaker 5 (25:58):
The difference maker for a lot of voters.
Speaker 4 (26:00):
If Roley hit sixty, that might be the difference maker
for a lot of voters. So it's going to depend
on this last month for sure. But like you said,
it's something that everybody who talks sports should be talking about.
It's one of the more exciting MVP races we've had
in recent memory.
Speaker 3 (26:15):
Yeah, we got Andrew checking and he believes it's just Judge.
Simple is that.
Speaker 2 (26:19):
I agree, and de Rel's checking in get out of
here at that, let's go Mets.
Speaker 3 (26:23):
We don't want to hear that. No, you know, it's funny.
Speaker 2 (26:25):
It's like Aaron Judge is actually having a down year
compared to last year, which is insane.
Speaker 4 (26:31):
It's ridiculous, insane that he's in like three twenty and
it's a down season for Aaron Judge.
Speaker 2 (26:37):
You know, I just I look at what you know,
and like you said, the biggest caveat in all of
this discussion is what happens over the next five weeks
right long Way Togo a lot of baseball to be played.
But I look at what Rally is doing in that
home run total that I think will get the award
(26:57):
for him, And I'm making it really simpleistic, but I
just feel like the ball goes boom is going to
catch attention.
Speaker 3 (27:04):
Right. Everybody loves the long ball. You can hit me
with the.
Speaker 2 (27:07):
Ops, you can hit me with all those some of
the other analytics. Even batting average is something that I
think people would pay attention to from a voter perspective,
and Judge is dominating cal Raley. But I think these
voters are going to keep it really simple and say
that this guy is catching switch hitting. Oh, by the way,
has never done it before. Judge, of course, we know
(27:27):
he's been here, done that. So I think that there's
going to be a little bit of that fatigue mixed in.
If I had to make a play right now cal
Rally on the even money, that's definitely a ticket that
I would prefer to have. Again, it's tough when you
start to talk about these things because Raleigh two months ago.
Was you know, plus twelve hundred, plus sixteen hundred, whatever
it may be, You prefer to have that ticket in
(27:50):
your portfolio right now. But even money's even money. Plus
money is plus money. Judge is still a favorite at
minus one thirty hund draft kings at this point in time.
Long way to go. But Ollie, well he can then
just do now. Three home runs in the last two days.
Speaker 4 (28:04):
Yeah, I mean, but like you said, it could be
judged too. He's leading the AL and walks. He's leading
the entirety of the majors in every slash category, so
batting average, on base, slugging ops ops plus any of
the advanced metrics, he's leading either the A or the
majors in he has a Despite my talk about how
good Rally is on defense at an extremely important position,
(28:27):
he has nearly a seven war already, Rally hasn't quite
yet touched five. So, no matter how you spin it,
if you look at old school statistics, if you'll get
new schools to statistics, there might be a slight difference
in home runs. It's about ten homer difference right now.
But man, everything else is coming apparent. Judge, it's hard
to vote against him. I personally am biased towards catchers.
(28:48):
I love catchers in the toughest position, if you can
do it a lot. To be a switch hitter, and again,
to carry that team the way he has it does
stand out how much he he really is the force
of that offense, and they keep pitching to them despite
not having all the protection in the world. I know
they traded for you Henio Suarez and Josh Naylor, but
for them to continue to pitch to him and him
take full advantage of it, it's just an impressive run
(29:11):
for him. Whether it ends in an MVP season, there's
gonna be a lot of fans who remember that twenty
twenty five cow rally run.
Speaker 3 (29:16):
Yeah, you're right about that.
Speaker 2 (29:17):
I will say this much as far as the westest
concerned right now, this, as much as we don't want
to put it into the equation, I think team success
does have something to do with these voters and their
mentality when they have to press send on those votes.
The Astros currently lead the West by a game and
a half right now, up on the Mariners seventy one
and sixty one are the Mariners.
Speaker 3 (29:37):
Seventy two and fifty nine or the Astros.
Speaker 2 (29:39):
I'll have to look up how many times these guys
play over the next month or five weeks. Love to
check in on some of those games with that division
battle or right down neck and neck here probably the tightest.
Speaker 3 (29:50):
If not the Titans.
Speaker 2 (29:51):
No, yeah, you got the the other West Dodgers and Padres,
which has been awesome to pay attention to.
Speaker 3 (29:57):
Yeah, no game. Padres are a game down.
Speaker 2 (30:00):
Dodgers are back to they've they've been going back and forth,
back and forth.
Speaker 3 (30:04):
They played over the weekend.
Speaker 2 (30:07):
It's been really something to watch out there in the
West wind and of course the Dodgers had all the expectations.
Speaker 3 (30:11):
In the world.
Speaker 2 (30:12):
All right, we will continue to talk a little Major
League Baseball from the Phillies perspective. Other side will give
you some winning plays in tonight's game again, Wizardo on
the mound for the Phillies minus one fifteen, Kyle Fisher.
Speaker 3 (30:23):
Isn't a must win ball game tonight.
Speaker 4 (30:26):
I mean as must win as must win as you
can get before the month of September starts.
Speaker 2 (30:31):
I would say, yeah, I like that, good answer, sir,
good answer. I'll give you a roaring round of applause
on that one nice bird. You're like the Masix.
Speaker 3 (30:42):
All right.
Speaker 7 (30:43):
Other side, though, I have an article in front of
me about big time storylines in the NFL. We'll go
through them and see if any of them catch Kyle
Fischer's attention. And of course we got to talk about
some birds moves that took place over the weekend.
Speaker 3 (31:00):
Howie Roseman staying aggressive? Is he done? I don't know.
Season kicks off in nine days.
Speaker 2 (31:05):
I think you could still add a couple more pieces
if the timing is right for some of these players.
We'll break it all down. Cayle Fisher hanging with me.
Don't go any more after this from.
Speaker 1 (31:13):
Tusca Loosa to the Big House Saturday. Start here our
clip ship, Chris got it in for your home for

Fox PHL Gambler. Kyle college Football. Did that catch your
(31:53):
attention over the weekend? You a college football guy.
Speaker 4 (31:57):
Not the biggest college football guy. I'm not gonna likee
is just I only have so much, so much room
of the brain understood how the turnover and guys I
may never hear of in a couple of years. Again,
I pay attention a lot close to draft time, and
that's about where I uh or I limit it to.
Speaker 3 (32:12):
Now does Texas and Ohio State?
Speaker 2 (32:15):
Like? Does that get the juices going at all? I mean,
it's a big time deal. Arch is unbelievable. Did you
see the quote he had?
Speaker 5 (32:22):
I didn't see the quote he had.
Speaker 4 (32:24):
Although I am excited about that matchup, any big matchup,
I'm usually I'll tune in, especially like when when I'm
on the road with the crew for CBS. We're typically
really really zoned in after our production meetings watching any
Saturday night matchups.
Speaker 5 (32:38):
So yeah, I mean I didn't see what he said.
What did he say? Let me get react in real time?
Speaker 2 (32:42):
And obviously Kyle Fisher's with CBS Sports on the road,
he will be on the sideline helping out the great
Tracy Wolfson. I get that name right this time I did.
Who did I say last? It was an NBC anchor? Yeah,
it was an NBC. It was a local aer, Yes,
the great Tracy Wolfson, who tweeted a picture out she
(33:04):
was at the US Open with her son, who is
about ten feet tall compared to her, I would assume
Tracy's a little short.
Speaker 4 (33:12):
And she also posed a picture with Lisa Leslie. It's
hilarious seeing those two next to each other.
Speaker 3 (33:18):
That's funny. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (33:19):
So, and you are opening up the season on the
road in Green Bay where they are hosting the Detroit Lions.
Speaker 3 (33:26):
What a matchup? What a game? All right? So Arch
said the following quote.
Speaker 2 (33:33):
He was asked about, you know, Texas having a target
on their back, he said, quote, I think we kind
of try to shift the narrative here at Texas.
Speaker 3 (33:41):
We're going for everyone else. The target's not on our back.
We have a red dot on everyone else. Oh that's fire,
that's firing the people.
Speaker 4 (33:58):
Smith, I guess to be fired up. I'm not gonna
lie I like that.
Speaker 2 (34:04):
I think again, he's a young kid. He's got he's
got when he gets some swagger, look out. I don't
know the kids use that word anymore.
Speaker 3 (34:12):
But you could tell.
Speaker 2 (34:13):
Like when he did say it, he was really quick
and kept it moving. So if he had a little
bit more like behind it. Man, I'm telling you that
would have been the quote of the year. But uh,
you know, it's good.
Speaker 3 (34:24):
It's good. It's good. He's getting the juices going.
Speaker 2 (34:26):
He's telling you exactly what's going through their brain down
there in texas As the way it should.
Speaker 7 (34:31):
You know.
Speaker 2 (34:32):
It's everyone seems to have a take right now in Arch,
and I get it. It's a slow time in between
Labor Day weekend before the game gets started. But I'm
seeing some things that are like coming from people that
obviously have not paid attention.
Speaker 3 (34:45):
This kid is good. He's really good, and he.
Speaker 2 (34:47):
Can make plays with his legs, very talented, has a
cannon of an arm, and very accurate. He's a manning
from the bloodline. We know what he's capable of, what
we've seen already in limited doses. So I I think
he's gonna have a hell of a day. But it's
gonna be tough on the road against Ohio State. That's
a really damn good team that just won a national
championship last year.
Speaker 5 (35:07):
That's all yeah, yeah, no big deal.
Speaker 4 (35:09):
They're just an incredible dynasty, have been for my entire lifetime.
Doesn't matter that Texas is number one, they're number three
right behind them, raiding champions.
Speaker 5 (35:19):
You know, no big deal, no pressure.
Speaker 2 (35:21):
So we did have some line movement in that when
that's down to it dropped down to a point and
a half. It's back up to two and a half
right now. I don't think we'll see threes, Just to
put that out there, I don't think that this game
is gonna get up to three. So it's a very
intriguing number in two and a half. Forty seven and
a half is our total. And that when a lot
of people think our defense is gonna be a little
bit more of a factor in that game. Your guess
(35:43):
is as good as mine with that one. Again, these
week zero Week one games, I love, you know, the
people that are beating their chest. I know what's gonna happen.
I'll break your bookie all that good luck, good luck.
It is college, a lot of tramp, a lot of change,
a lot of turnover, and you know, you would like
to believe that, yeah, we're gonna get a great game.
It's gonna go over that forty seven and a half.
(36:04):
But it could be a game that has a bunch
of fumbles, maybe an interception or two, and next thing,
you know, it's staying way under the total, so we'll
see what happens. But of course it is the big
game on the card this weekend, which opens up on
Thursday tomorrow. We're gonna be all over college football right.
Speaker 3 (36:22):
Here on the game. But we have Julian Edlow, I'll
have Ryan.
Speaker 2 (36:25):
Beef Coyle as well a little bit later, and Sam
Osti's gon to join us in studio. Kobe marshow is
going to be making appearance as well, be talking a
lot of college football Week one on tomorrow's Daily Ticket. However, though,
I would like to get out over to the NFL
and chop that up with Kyle here. And the first
thing that I did want to bring up is the
(36:46):
fact that the Cincinnati Bengals said, you know what, yeah,
we got ourselves a pretty good quarterback. Maybe we want
to improve on defense, and yeah, let's go ahead and
sign Trey Hendrickson and get him into camp. This way,
he could perform this year and maybe lead the league
in sacks. Yet again, just it'd probably be good to
(37:06):
have him out there on the defense side of the ball,
And that's exactly what happened. Bengals announced on Monday, they
agreed to a new deal that will give Hendrickson a
fourteen million dollar raise. That's pretty good on his existing contract.
Now that agreement doesn't do anything other than just takes
them through the year.
Speaker 3 (37:23):
So I got a two part question for you. First
of all, your read on the deal.
Speaker 2 (37:28):
Was it all worth Trey Henderson time after his all
said and done A and then b his time in
Cincinnati's over, right, I would.
Speaker 4 (37:38):
Think so if they're not going to sign into a
long term extension, I mean, maybe they can work something out.
You know, it's with Jamar Chase, they overpaid, probably just
to make sure that he's stuck around. I mean not,
I know, he's the top receiver in the world, but
you know it's they're not a team that likes to
spend a lot of money if they don't have to anyway.
So the fact that they didn't turn it in to
(38:00):
a long term extension to me, you know it's NFL
owners do this a lot. The injuries happened so much
more often in this sport than other sports that hey,
you know, let's if we can give him some money
to keep him around for another year and then we
see what happens. You know, that's that's best for us
long term. So I don't know if it was worth it.
Trey gets the money, But I think the Bengals got
(38:21):
exactly what they wanted to. They got a guy who's
extremely impactful player, who's going to stick around for at
least one more season while they have their offensive corps
still intact.
Speaker 3 (38:31):
Schamar Stewart got his contract. Yeah, they the Cincinnati Bengals
just don't operate the right way.
Speaker 6 (38:36):
We know it.
Speaker 3 (38:37):
We've we've talked about this for years now.
Speaker 2 (38:40):
We learned it really with the one hard knocks, with
the offensive lineman from Alabama that they were playing, you know,
trying not to give him the money that he was
owed due to the simple factor where he was drafted.
Speaker 3 (38:52):
It was ridiculous.
Speaker 2 (38:53):
And that was more with Shamar Stewart as well, seventeenth
overall pick out of Texas A and M. And again
this is on the defensive side of the I just,
you know, I wonder what Joe Burrow really says behind
closed doors, That's all. I would love to hear what
his take is on that organization as all.
Speaker 5 (39:10):
Well, yeah, I mean that would be interesting for sure.
Speaker 4 (39:12):
I'm sure that he's had a lot of private frustrations,
maybe get the guy an offensive line. He dragged him
to the super Bowl with nobody protecting him that one season.
So but for this particular deal, I mean, it really
does work out in their favor that they managed to
get no clause related to a franchise tag in there.
So if they wanted to keep him two more years,
(39:33):
Sure he plays really well this year and plays and
is near the league lead in sacks once again, they
can keep him around, they can let him walk. It's
really they kept all the control, even if they gave
the guy a little bit more guaranteed money this season
than he originally had, So it didn't work out the
way that Hendrickson wanted. He does get more guaranteed money,
which is great, but I'm sure that just like a
(39:54):
lot of guys, you want those years of guaranteed money
as opposed to just getting a little bumps this season.
Speaker 3 (40:00):
That happened a little bit after the show yesterday. Didn't
have a chance to really talk about Henderson's deal, but
we did bring up Terry McLaurin on the show yesterday,
and that has a huge, huge gap by the Commanders.
They had to have him in and that one never
made sense to me other than the fact that, of
course he's a little bit up there in age, and
that's fine. Mclaurin's twenty nine right now. I believe he's not.
Speaker 2 (40:19):
Exactly thirty just yet, but early in the season, so
he turns out okay, So he's turning thirty in this season,
all right, So that's maybe one thing. Again, I just
looked at it from the standpoint of like, look, you
have your rookie or you have your quarterback on a
rookie deal, like that is the time to attack, and
you had success and now your number one option, you're
(40:40):
not going to bring him back with all the expectations
for that franchise.
Speaker 3 (40:44):
Really really, you know, just made me guess.
Speaker 2 (40:47):
But all in all, McLaurin gets his money, and I
think that's raises his salary the thirty million and twenty
twenty five if I'm not missa or no excuse me,
three year extension worth up to ninety six million dollars
which kicks in next season a year. Yeah, that's a
nice job by him. So he got what he wanted,
right and then some.
Speaker 5 (41:07):
Yeah, definitely I'm worth it for him for sure. He
got paid.
Speaker 4 (41:11):
You gotta keep weapons around the young quarterback in Washington.
I think that that was a smart move, And I
mean I know that Eagles fans want want the want
the Eagles to target everybody. That would have been funny
if if they were like, yeah, you know what, we
might be out without aj for a little bit. Let's
go steal this guy from underneath our rivals nose. You
(41:31):
can't can't let that happen. So not that I don't
think they would have been legitimate players when it comes
to the price tag, but yeah, he got exactly what
he wanted, a little bit more than than Hendrickson did,
probably off though man thirty thirty plus year old wide
receivers hit walls.
Speaker 5 (41:49):
Yes, what one guy has worked out.
Speaker 4 (41:51):
Recently, and it was only for one or two seasons
in DeVante everybody else, you know, you look at Diggs,
you look at Cup, you look at Antonio Brown. Those
guys hit a product and then in some cases some
personal walls too. So it's a little bit we'll see
if it works out. They got a good system down there,
and he doesn't seem like he's necessarily a guy who
you got to worry about off the field too much.
(42:11):
As far as his mental so we'll see what happens.
But he got exactly what he wanted. That's you got
to give props to the guy for that.
Speaker 2 (42:18):
I know it would never happen, but Michael Parsons ended
up in an Eagles uniform. Oh, by the way, the
year after that, Saquon Barkley ended up in the Eagles uniform.
Speaker 3 (42:26):
Would have been classic. Classic, And there.
Speaker 2 (42:30):
Is something there with Mike and the Eagles, and of
course Penn State that whole connection. But again, that deal,
it's it's ridiculous what has taken place in Dallas, and
we don't need to go down that road because it's
being covered by everybody.
Speaker 3 (42:42):
We already hit.
Speaker 2 (42:43):
We don't think he'll be suiting up in nine days
taking on the Eagles in Game one. There's sixteen other
games after it, so it's not the end of the world,
but you know for it, like I will sit as much.
A couple of weeks ago, I was floating around. We
were talking about the teams that could potentially end up
with the worst record after it's all said and done
this season, and I'm telling you right now, Dallas feels
(43:05):
like it could be a complete disaster, and they could
end up with the worst record and look at the numbers.
That's another reason why I'm bringing it up, because the
payout is just through the roof. So to take a
stab on the team with the worst record that means
three four five wins. I think five wins is too many.
(43:26):
Four wins.
Speaker 3 (43:27):
I'm telling you, Dallas has that vibe for me right now.
Speaker 5 (43:30):
That is a that would be very surprising to me
if they were that bad. There's some bad.
Speaker 4 (43:37):
Teams in the NFL. I don't know if I would
put them as the worst team. We talked recently about
how we think that with a healthy Dak Prescott, they
could be maybe not fight the Eagles for the division,
but you know, they could be a problem.
Speaker 5 (43:51):
They could be a thorn in some people's sides. And yeah,
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (43:54):
Thirty to one plus three thousand, it's a good seaton
again because you know, the yeah, the hype value, the
hype behind the Cowboys is always there, so you're getting
great value there. For instance, just to let you know,
the team that has the best odds two teams to
have the best odds to to have the fewest regular
season wins this year. Of course, the Saints and Browns,
no doubt. We understand that. Way down the board in
(44:17):
the middle, you get the Cowboys at thirty to one.
New coach Michael Parsons issues. That feels like that's playing
out and it's like all these players have to continue
to answer it. An injury or two, maybe Dak goes
down again.
Speaker 3 (44:32):
It could happen. I could see it.
Speaker 5 (44:35):
It could.
Speaker 4 (44:36):
I also would if I'm looking to win, not money,
just be the victor.
Speaker 5 (44:42):
If it's a pick not a bet.
Speaker 3 (44:43):
Sure.
Speaker 4 (44:44):
I mean I'd picked five or six teams before I
even looked their way, right, It's there's some some horrid
franchises out there as of late, so you know, you
know it's but for the value, that's.
Speaker 5 (44:57):
That's a pretty good choice.
Speaker 4 (44:58):
I could see the has been there all preseason, all offseason,
so why not.
Speaker 3 (45:02):
I agree with that? All right?
Speaker 2 (45:04):
Kyle Fisher, your thoughts on what Howie Rosman did on
Sunday with his busy, busy afternoon. Three trades and he
has now pulled off five trades this month. Yeah, we
still got a little bit to go here. But Fred
Johnson from Jacksonville for a twenty twenty six seventh round pick,
why did that move go down.
Speaker 4 (45:22):
What did that say to you, Well, I mean they're
a team built in the trenches. It didn't surprise me
at all that they went and got some additional depth there.
I think that you've done some mixing and matching. You know,
you lose becked in after his strong performance last season.
Speaker 5 (45:38):
You need to fill that role.
Speaker 4 (45:39):
You're putting some guys in maybe some unfamiliar, uncomfortable positions.
You've had some warning signs with both of your tackles
these last couple of years. Add some depth, and if
it's a guy who you're already familiar with, even better.
So to me, it's just they're a team that's always
been built in the trenches. If you have a chance
to add some cheap depth, you do so, especially a
guy who can more ease pick up your schemes since
(46:02):
he's been there before.
Speaker 2 (46:03):
Acquired Sam Howell in a twenty twenty six sixth round
pick from Minnesota for a twenty twenty six to fifth
in a twenty twenty seven to seventh round.
Speaker 3 (46:11):
What did that trade do to you? What did that
mean to you?
Speaker 5 (46:15):
Well, I mean McKee gets hurt.
Speaker 4 (46:17):
It was a d RT. It was just a sign
to me that they didn't trust him. You see, he
gets he gets cut as a result of that deal.
Excuse me, but the Yeah, to me, it was just
you get a veteran just in case. You know, Hurts
hasn't played every game in a season, yet you go
out and get him. I think that if McKee wasn't hurt,
you probably don't make that deal. But just in case
(46:38):
he goes down, you want to make sure that you
have somebody besides a rookie to go because you have
you have Super Bowl repeat aspirations here. You're not trying
to make some noise. You're trying You're trying to can
continue the noise if you will, So you need a
veteran to help run this group. And to me, it
made a lot of sense.
Speaker 3 (46:55):
All right. And of course the uh.
Speaker 2 (46:58):
The beachy move a little earlier this week he came
from the Texans. Correct, Why am I drawing a blank
on that?
Speaker 3 (47:03):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (47:04):
Texans receiver. Yeah, I thought that was a good move too.
I mean, you have an injury to Johnny Wilson, you
go add some depth for yourself and they have a
solid wide receiver room. A lot of people felt like
it was a little thin after, you know, before Johnny
wasn't one of those those good performances in preseason people
thought it might be a little thin outside of the
top three. Wilson shows something, then he gets hurt. You
(47:25):
want to go get another veteran. You know you might
be without aj for a little bit. Davante's been hurt
at least minor injuries each each of the last two years.
So you get yourself some insurance a guy who's been
around the block before. Don't hate that movie either, And
you have plenty of picks. Why not?
Speaker 2 (47:39):
Plus the Alabama love Alabama Alabama and Georgia Alabama to
Red's all you need. Maybe let's keep sec Eagles man
this is and oh, by the way, how he's a
Florida guy, which is pretty funny when you think of it.
Speaker 3 (47:53):
Once again.
Speaker 2 (47:54):
Eagles and Cowboys nine days away, seven point spreads, still
holding strong on DraftKings sportsbook. Four forty six and a
half is our total. And that one if I made
you make a play right now? Given the seven? Who
uh too many?
Speaker 4 (48:11):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (48:11):
Given seven, I do it.
Speaker 5 (48:13):
Yeah, yeah, you're making it.
Speaker 3 (48:16):
Yeah, I'm right there with you on that one.
Speaker 5 (48:18):
All right.
Speaker 2 (48:19):
I got an article in front of me from Yard Barker.
They always do a good job with these sort of
deals and uh storylines that keep an eye on for
the upcoming in FL season. And I'll tell you what
one of them has my attention from the jump. And
I think you and I have discussed it a few
times already. Yeah, of course it's offseason, so you know
you got to hit on some of the big topics
(48:39):
that are out there. But I am fired up to
see what Ben Johnson and Chicago Bears are going to do.
I don't know if that's the number one storyline for me. No,
that would be will the Eagles run it back? But
Ben Johnson and what he was able to do in Detroit,
the way he called plays, the formations, the difference that
he was with the success in that franchise. For him,
(49:00):
I'm coming back. I'm a big Ben Johnson believer. Now
will that translate with Caleb Williams and that offense over
there with the Chicago Bears.
Speaker 3 (49:07):
We'll see. I do like him in that Monday night
football game. We discussed that last week.
Speaker 2 (49:10):
But as far as a storyline in the NFL that
gets you excited for this upcoming season, where do.
Speaker 3 (49:15):
You rank that one out of a one to five scale, Kyle,
I'd put it.
Speaker 5 (49:21):
Like a three, maybe a four.
Speaker 4 (49:23):
I think it's interesting to see that you might see
the burgeoning Dan Campbell coaching tree if he has some
success what he did with that offense. You know a
lot of people didn't have faith in that offense when
it comes to Jared Goff and put a lot of
it on the weapons. We'll see what happens with a
more dynamic quarterback. Maybe less dynamic weapons, but more dynamic quarterback.
(49:44):
They added to that offensive line to help. I've talked
a lot about how the Bears are greatly improved to
me on paper, at least in the offseason.
Speaker 5 (49:51):
So we'll have to see what kind of poise they
get from the quarterback.
Speaker 4 (49:55):
But yeah, that should be an exciting team to watch
because you have a really strong coach in there, and
if you add protection and some weapons to the young
quarterback and Caleb Williams, no reason to not have a
little bit of faith that they take a big step up.
Speaker 5 (50:08):
So maybe fight for the division.
Speaker 4 (50:10):
I don't know about that, but they could be exciting
early and really turn some heads.
Speaker 3 (50:14):
Yeah, especially with that division matchup.
Speaker 2 (50:15):
Right from the jump, Like you said, it's definitely a
game that could get some serious attention with the Monday
night football. Of course, I think it's a solo game.
I don't think there's two Monday night football games, right.
Speaker 5 (50:26):
I don't believe so there is there Week one?
Speaker 3 (50:29):
No, not Week one.
Speaker 2 (50:30):
The following week we get two Monday nights if I'm
not mistaken. Yeah, the following week we get the Bucks
and Texans and the Chargers and Raiders.
Speaker 3 (50:39):
And then.
Speaker 2 (50:42):
That's it, Lions and Ravens whole week. Three Monday night
football lines and Ravens. You gotta love that, all right.
The Aaron Rodgers deal in Pittsburgh? Where does that rank
for you? As far as storylines for the upcoming NFL season?
Does that get you all hot and bothered? Rogers with
the Steelers and Mike Tomlin.
Speaker 5 (51:00):
I don't know a one.
Speaker 4 (51:02):
I don't care about He's It would be fun if
it ends up working, because you know, we know that
it's going to be his last season. But if it
doesn't work, I mean to me, it's more interesting after
the season because if it doesn't work, what do you
do with you know that Rogers is going to retire?
What do the Steelers finally start questioning? Whether Mike Tomlin
(51:23):
is still suited for the job. There's a lot of
question marks there. You know, you've moved on from some
highly talented players as of late. It does he do
they need to make a change there would be the
bigger thing for me. But if Tomlin can take a
forty two year old Aaron Rodgers who has not worked
out as the last couple of steps, and make this
team look really strong again, then you know it's it's
(51:43):
a very different situation.
Speaker 5 (51:45):
The Rogers part of it.
Speaker 4 (51:46):
I don't really care too much. I know that he's
better than guys like Russell Wilson and some of the
other veterans who have changed teams lately, But to me,
he's just another retrack guy until he shows me different.
I know he had a strong season in New York
last season, but we've.
Speaker 5 (51:58):
Talked about it. I'm kind of over that guy a
little bit.
Speaker 4 (52:01):
He's a great talent, don't get me wrong, sure, one
of the best I've ever ever seen with my own eyes,
But you know it's to me, I'm a little I'm
a little past the Aaron Rodgers hype.
Speaker 5 (52:10):
Until if you go out there and you know these
start six and oh or something like that.
Speaker 4 (52:14):
Maybe maybe you're turning my head, but as far as
right now, I'm going to one two if you're if
you want me to to not be bored by it,
basically all right.
Speaker 2 (52:22):
Final question, as far as storylines that are getting you
excited for the upcoming NFL season nine days away, pick
one that you are more excited for it Would it
be JJ McCarthy's debut with the Minnesota Vikings or Travis
Hunter attempting to play both sides of the ball for
the Jacksonville Jags.
Speaker 4 (52:42):
I think the the Travis Hunter one is the more
intriguing one as a fan of neither team. You know,
to see a guy who who could potentially play both
sides of the ball regularly would be impressive. You know,
Deon Sanders did it a tiny bit. He would do
a little bit here and there back in his day.
But the yeah, I haven't seen anything like that with
(53:05):
any sort of regularity, so to if he's able to
pull it off, I think he's going to end up
playing one more than the other. But if he's effective
on both sides of the ball, it'll be really exciting
and it'll get a lot of eyes on a team
that probably doesn't get as many eyes as they deserve
who they have some big names but have had some
ups and downs. And if he can bring some additional
eyes there and they find some success, that could be
(53:26):
an exciting story.
Speaker 5 (53:27):
The more interesting story for the Eagles.
Speaker 4 (53:30):
Is if JJ McCarthy can be successful because they're competing
directly with the Vikings for the lead in the NFC.
So I think intrigue. I would pick Hunter, and I
put it out of four it's really high for me.
He's very interesting. I think if you take it from
an Eagles fan perspective, I'm going five on. Is JJ
McCarthy going to carry what Sam Donold was able to
(53:50):
do and maybe then some in Minnesota?
Speaker 2 (53:53):
Yeah, JJ McCarthy's definitely intriguing situation out there with Minnesota
because a lot of people are making the case that, look,
you get anybody with O'Connell and and they're gonna be uh,
you know, I have a great season. Of course, that
offense produces, and I get it, But H McCarthy never
really struck me as that great of a college quarterback.
(54:14):
I wasn't buying when Harbaugh was saying he was the
best quarterback in that draft.
Speaker 3 (54:18):
I mean that was his guy.
Speaker 2 (54:19):
That's fine, but it is really going to put it
will put you know, the O'Connell stuff to the test,
and I don't know if we'll get our answer in
year one.
Speaker 3 (54:28):
I would I wouldn't be uh, that wouldn't be fair.
But we'll know, we'll know if J. J. McCarthy could
play the position or not.
Speaker 2 (54:34):
Uh, you know, at the professional level this year, after
it's all said and done, I think he'll have some success.
Speaker 3 (54:41):
But I don't like the Minnesota Vikings in that division,
that's for sure.
Speaker 6 (54:46):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (54:47):
Sorry, I just saw one of the comments in the
comments section. Sorry to just with the NFL talk. Joe
Ross just got released, not Jordan Romano. Joe Ross just
got released by the Phillies.
Speaker 5 (54:57):
Crazy.
Speaker 4 (54:57):
I'm gonna I'm gonna give you a second to look
it up and I'll talk about that Vikings stake.
Speaker 6 (55:01):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (55:01):
I think one of the things that we've talked about
with rookie quarterbacks in the past is they get thrown
into the fire. And I know it was mostly because
of injury, but McCarthy has had the benefit of learning
from this coaching staff and learning from a veteran quarterback
from the sideline.
Speaker 3 (55:13):
I had more.
Speaker 5 (55:16):
Excited might not be the right word, but I think
there's more promise in.
Speaker 4 (55:19):
Him this season than if he came in last season
as a rookie and had to prove things with a
veteran laden squad around him. For me, I like giving
rookie quarterbacks a chance to adjust and learn behind somebody else.
Speaker 5 (55:35):
That's a big deal for me.
Speaker 4 (55:36):
I think too many rookie quarterbacks have not worked out
because they were thrown into the fire in a situation
that was not beneficial. Most rookie quarterbacks who are forced
to start are playing for bad teams. The reason they
were bad is because they couldn't protect the quarterback, and
it's just an endless, vicious cycle of people taking quarterbacks
when they're not ready for one. So I think that
you're throwing him into a good situation with a really
(55:57):
good quarterback coach, and he had a year to learn
under a veteran I'm a little more excited about him
this year than I would have been if he were
the starter this past season.
Speaker 3 (56:05):
Yeah, thank you very much Jose for adding to the show.
Speaker 2 (56:08):
I was going to break out the Travis Hunter Taylor
Swift angle to close up this segment with.
Speaker 3 (56:12):
You bron Travis Kelsey, did I say Travis.
Speaker 5 (56:15):
Hunter as you did?
Speaker 3 (56:17):
Whoops?
Speaker 2 (56:18):
Breaking news. Taylor Swift and Travis Hunter are getting engaged.
Speaker 5 (56:24):
That would be breaking whoops.
Speaker 3 (56:25):
No, Travis Kelcey, she's a billionaire. Yeah, put a ring
on it, dude, put a ring on it.
Speaker 1 (56:31):
Now?
Speaker 3 (56:31):
Does he have to sign a prenup?
Speaker 5 (56:32):
Pretty easy decision?
Speaker 3 (56:33):
Does he have to sign a prenup?
Speaker 5 (56:35):
I mean one of them should be, both of them
should be. Maybe, I don't know. Protect yourself. I'm sure
they're going to respect each other.
Speaker 7 (56:41):
Big.
Speaker 5 (56:41):
Look, what's yours is yours.
Speaker 4 (56:43):
What's mine is mine. We know who we are, we
know how these things can go. Let's let's uh, let's
each protect our own and we'll keep our stuff separate.
They don't need each other's money in any way, shape
or form, right, so why not both of them signed?
Speaker 2 (56:54):
One billion is a billionaire though, that's a bee Travis.
Travis Kelcey is not a billionaire.
Speaker 4 (57:02):
I guess he's a media darling though he's been there.
Speaker 2 (57:05):
I mean the money that they're making from that podcast alone.
All right over to the Phillies having some fun here
with Kyle Fisher.
Speaker 3 (57:10):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (57:11):
Matt Gelb from the Athletic tweets out the Phillies have
released Joe Ross, who signed for four million had a
five point one two er and fifty one innings this season.
I know Joe Ross hasn't been good, of course the
numbers will tell you exactly there. But are we being
trolled right now? Like if there's one guy that needs
to be released, it's Romano, that's it.
Speaker 5 (57:32):
Yeah. I don't understand this at all.
Speaker 4 (57:34):
I know that he has more experience closing, but Ross
is a guy who could have gone multiple innings for you.
Could have been a spot starter if you wanted to
give some guys rest in a six man situation. I mean,
I haven't seen the corresponding move yet, so I don't know,
like if they're calling up Seth Johnson or who else
is going to be called up?
Speaker 5 (57:50):
I haven't been able to find that on Twitter yet.
But yeah, I don't.
Speaker 4 (57:55):
Look it's It's not a good situation when when one
move doesn't surprise you and it still feels like the
wrong move, right. I mean, he signed a four million
dollar contract, has a five to twelve VRA and fifty
one innings. Romano signed a what eight and a half
million dollar contract and has a almost an eight and
a half vra is worth almost negative two war in
(58:16):
forty two and two thirds innings, and you have him.
Speaker 5 (58:18):
Doing mop up duty.
Speaker 4 (58:20):
I'd almost rather have Joe Ross, who is more versatile
and yeah, I mean not great numbers, but his numbers
are better.
Speaker 5 (58:28):
You know who knows.
Speaker 4 (58:29):
I don't know what you can I don't know what
you can say about either one. I would imagine that
both guys will be will be cut before the end
of August, because then you if you get guys up
in the bullpen before September hits, they are eligible for
the postseason.
Speaker 5 (58:44):
If you wait until September first call up, they are not.
Speaker 4 (58:48):
So you will Like I would not have been surprised
if Romano has cut, it's a little more surprising that
Cross is. Maybe Romano sticks around now, which is crazy
to me, But I'm not the one making those decisions.
Speaker 5 (59:01):
It's you know, we'll have to see.
Speaker 4 (59:02):
I wouldn't be surprised if if Ross gets picked up
by somebody and thrown in the back of a bullpen,
So we'll see. Luke Trevine, Okay, that's a guy who
I was talking to some friends yesterday. Maybe that he's
been thrown well down on Triple A. Maybe he's the guy.
So Jose, thanks for the.
Speaker 3 (59:16):
Jose coming in. Yeah, Jose's a Phillies, Phillies insider here today.
Speaker 4 (59:21):
Yeah, what is going on?
Speaker 5 (59:22):
I'm supposed to be getting these little I.
Speaker 3 (59:24):
Love it nice, very We appreciate that good stuff there.
All right, Well, before you get out of here, Kyle,
give me a take on tonight's game. What are you
looking at?
Speaker 2 (59:32):
What's what's a player that you think is gonna pop
off against Naya? Of course with the with the Mets
minus one oh six Lozardo on the bump for the
Phillies minus one fifteen eighth your total. Of course, Lozardo
last time I had eleven twelve strike up twelve strikeouts
because he went back to back with Sanchez twelve strikeouts.
So I don't know if we're gonna get that type
of caliber of performance from Lozardo, but would be nice anyways.
(59:55):
From the batting perspective, the hitter props from the Phillies,
where are you looking at tonight?
Speaker 4 (01:00:00):
I haven't taken a look at the props, but I
do like Trey Turner tonight show Manaya is a he's
been struggling since coming off the injured list.
Speaker 5 (01:00:09):
I mean, so was Senga, and he looked great yesterday,
So we have to see.
Speaker 4 (01:00:13):
But I think you could see a nice game from
Castianos since they've done I think over the last week
and a half, since he's kind of been added to
the outfield platoon, he has three multiple multi hit games.
He's sitting like three forty five, three, three sixties somewhere
in there. I forget the exact number off the top
of my head because I was looking like six guys
at once yesterday. But he's hitting in the in the
(01:00:33):
mid threes ever since he's been added to this platoon,
whole likely be back in the lineup. But if I
have to go with somebody that I'm going to put
some money on, I'd say Trey having a big game today.
Speaker 5 (01:00:42):
What are some of the props you got there? So
I'm not speaking out of turn.
Speaker 2 (01:00:45):
Well, Trey, of course one of the hottest bats in
baseball period, but you can get him at two plus
hits a plus one eighty. I'm a big total bases guy,
Trey Turner, total bases even money for two plus there,
I think you could take a stab at that he
was one for five last night. If I believe I'm
correct on that one, Shorebert plus two fifty five to
hit a home run, and he's been without a home
(01:01:06):
run in like four games four games now, So could.
Speaker 4 (01:01:09):
That Tree when he's been hitting lefties really well?
Speaker 5 (01:01:11):
So could back and continue.
Speaker 2 (01:01:13):
We'll see man that chase in Utley's corner up there
at City Field. Yeah, let's see here Boom back in
the mix. You can get him some total bases going
up against the lefty there. Bowm would be a guy
i'd probably look at plus one fifteen. Yeah, I guess
the big question I would have for you is will
the Phillies get their first win at City Field this year?
Speaker 5 (01:01:37):
I think they do. I think it.
Speaker 4 (01:01:39):
I don't think it's going to be nearly as ugly
as a as a game of yesterday. I don't think
this is necessarily a team that carries emotional reactions one
day to the next. I think they're going to come
out a little more poised and show yesterday isn't who
we are. I don't think it's going to be any
bludgeting of any kind, but I think they're going to
bear down close early, maybe score some runs late. They've
(01:01:59):
been really good seventh inning on and the Mets bullpen
has been pretty rough as well.
Speaker 5 (01:02:04):
So not only do you have a rough starter.
Speaker 4 (01:02:05):
Manaia on the mound, if you can get many out
early and get to that weaker portion of the bullpen
before you get to Hellsley and Diaz, I think they're
in good shape. So I'd go Philly's victory tonight. I
take I like the total basis mark, I'll go total
bases on trail.
Speaker 5 (01:02:18):
Let's take the over on that.
Speaker 2 (01:02:20):
Blizardo seven plus strikeouts at plus one thirty, as I said,
coming off a monster performance in that last time out,
just real quick. I just wanted to bring this up
because I don't remember if I came across that number again,
it got so lopsided, so I want to really put
too much stock into it. But just as far as
how many times the Mets struck out last night, eight
(01:02:42):
total strikeouts on the day, how about them leaving the
National League in double plays grounded into that's a good number,
or that's a number you don't want to stat you
don't want.
Speaker 3 (01:02:52):
To leave the league, and that's for sure. Yeah, no,
you do not, all right, Kyle, Great job as always
what do you got cooking over there? Man? What's happening
in your world?
Speaker 2 (01:02:59):
Once again you can find I'm Kyle and all things
Socials of Kyle Fisher forty five at the Philly Sports
and Network. Be sure to give those guys and girls
to follow at Philadelphia s n's cooking over there, sir.
Speaker 4 (01:03:11):
So, our team is doing a lot of Mets stuff
this week, obviously big series for us. I'll be doing
the recap, I believe, tonight and tomorrow. I just released
a piece. I had an opportunity to talk to Cole
Hammill's The Phillies Legend and the Dugout. I actually was
there at the ballpark Saturday and accidentally broke the news
about Zach Wheeler to him.
Speaker 5 (01:03:31):
I had assumed that he saw it. Asked when to
talk about it. He said, I didn't hear the latest.
So I pulled up my phone.
Speaker 4 (01:03:36):
I was like, before you talk to me before I
turned this recorder on, man, let's review it and see
if you still agree to talk. So I did a
nice little write up on some of the quotes he had,
and he had some great, great quotes on Chris Sands
talked about what in their experience they were able to
do and still lean on Roy Halliday when he went
out in twenty twelve. Yeah, it didn't turn into a
(01:03:56):
world series that season, but they were still able to
lean on a lot of his experts tease, even with
him not being out there on the mound to contribute,
so a lot of great info from him. And then
we're gonna be doing something on September call ups. Obviously
just predicting predicting that, but it's gonna depend a lot
on what this what this Mets series gives us. And
(01:04:16):
then I think I told you this last week, but
I'm actually gonna be contributing to the PSN Sixers coverage soon,
So let's go look up. But I'll have some some
basketball articles out soon enough, so be on the look.
Speaker 2 (01:04:29):
Oh man, I can't wait. Bring on the Sixers your coverage.
I'll tune in for that.
Speaker 5 (01:04:35):
But you know, I appreciate it.
Speaker 4 (01:04:38):
I'm a little Yeah, everybody's a little shaking their head
right now, so of course it's the perfect time for
me to get in, right what everybody's frustrated, it's all
engagement farming, Sean, That's what it is.
Speaker 5 (01:04:48):
And then when everybody's mad at everything.
Speaker 2 (01:04:50):
Yeah, it's speaking of engagement farm and just fire a
tweet up of Taylor Swift and Travis kelce.
Speaker 4 (01:04:55):
I already said I sent a gift of DeAndre Swift
and as Kelcey and said, this is the only Swift
Kelsey couple we acknowledge.
Speaker 7 (01:05:03):
They go.
Speaker 5 (01:05:04):
Nice work by you already said you're acknowledging it by
tweeting this.
Speaker 2 (01:05:07):
You know, I want to get you out of here
because I know I got you a little extended, but
one more quick one because this was a ridiculous story
from the weekend.
Speaker 3 (01:05:15):
It just did pop up and we knew it was
going to be the case.
Speaker 2 (01:05:18):
Kenny Pickett got traded, So therefore Shador Sanders will be
making the Cleveland Browns roster. What what did you make
of that whole saga him going in in that second
half in that final preseason game against the Rams not
playing in a two minute warning? Uh, you got RG three,
who's a bonehead saying that, yeah, they're they're trying to sabbage.
I just didn't understand, Like, what would the Cleveland Browns
(01:05:41):
get by sabotaging a guy that they picked, Like, don't
they wouldn't they want to see Shador Sanders be successful,
and like, I understand, well, you want to see him
out there in a two minute warning. No, maybe not,
Maybe I don't need to see should or centers in
that two minute drive in a preseason game, which oh,
by the way, he got sacked already five times and
(01:06:01):
it looked pretty bad.
Speaker 3 (01:06:03):
And you know what, I don't want to get to
get the kid hurt.
Speaker 4 (01:06:05):
I don't know, that's the big thing for me. It's preseason.
He didn't get cut. They didn't rip him off the field.
A coach didn't yell at him. It wasn't a benching
and a big drama filled situation on the sideline.
Speaker 5 (01:06:18):
He didn't play in the preseason.
Speaker 4 (01:06:21):
Everybody who is important on a roster doesn't play full
games in the preseason. It was a big nothing. People
get upset about the Browns all the time.
Speaker 5 (01:06:31):
There's an easy talking point to get, like you said, engagement,
farming to get people to pay attention to you.
Speaker 4 (01:06:36):
It's easy. It's an easy thing to get clicks on.
RG three was a little over animated about it. Guess
what they picked him. They picked sure Der, he's on
the roster. Everybody assumed he was going to be on
the roster and they're protecting him, which to me means
that they have big things planned for him. Potentially they
view him as potentially the backup. We're going to have
(01:06:57):
to see how the depth chart plays out. But you
protect your investments, and that's exactly what they did. Nothing more,
nothing less.
Speaker 2 (01:07:03):
Yeah, the four o'clock deadline just happened, and that is official.
It is the NFL cut day, and all teams needed
to trim down their rosters from ninety to fifty three players. Now,
that took over time, but still, man, that's not an
easy deal. You're talking about guys who were the best
of the best at every single level that they played
(01:07:25):
football at and now all of a sudden, you gotta
find Okay, you know this guy. None of these guys
were ever told you're not on the team until right now.
It's crazy when you think about it in that perspective.
Speaker 3 (01:07:36):
Crazy.
Speaker 4 (01:07:37):
Yeah, man, It's not an easy business to be in,
not an easy business to be in. Pro athlete, Cale,
you're the best.
Speaker 3 (01:07:43):
Thank you very much for giving us an extended period here, man,
always a pleasure to get you on the daily ticket.

Speaker 3 (01:08:01):
Fisher on the Gambler stream. I'm late for a break yet.
Speaker 2 (01:08:04):
Other side, I want to bring up some college football,
get into some of the talking points that I've been
paying attention to. Specifically in the LSU and Clemson game.
That is a game that everybody would be watching Saturday night.
Of course, Belichick on Monday night is very intriguing as well.
With TCU. I don't have a good vibe about UNC.
I really don't easy schedule, but not in that game.
(01:08:25):
I think that's a tough loss or a tough game
to open up with from Belichick and a lot of turnover,
a lot of change going.
Speaker 3 (01:08:31):
Up against a decent TCU team with a pretty good quarterback.
Speaker 2 (01:08:34):
We'll talk a little bit more about that one, but
as I said, it is the NFL cutday, some significant
names have already been released.
Speaker 3 (01:08:42):
We'll go over some of the big.
Speaker 2 (01:08:43):
Names around the league, and maybe the Eagles, maybe Howie
Roseman comes calling for a few of these players. We'll
talk about all that and more on the other sides,
daily take Bakfists
