They finally clinched the NL East and back to back seasons,
the earliest that this team in franchise history has ever
clinched a division. You gotta love that, all I know, Like,
I hate to be this type of guy. To start, obviously,
we had to dial up Luke Arcane to join us.

as they clinched, like so many things are coming together

this team has been a joy to watch all season
long for me. And if you have not been in
that driver's seat with me, if you have not been
riding shotgun with that viewpoint this whole season, then I

feel for you. I do if you are of the
Michael Barkin caliber where there has been a point this
season where they were disgraceful, like it's just an idiotic take,
and here we are clinching the division, Like, let me
just repeat that. As disgraceful as it was this year,
this is the earliest that this team has ever clinched

the division of franchise history. Yeah, that's disgraceful. Nobody wants

felt a little poetic to me that the the reliever
that the Phillies just signed from money in the middle
of July that a lot of people thought was stupid
and too much money for a guy that's forty years
old and was never really that great. Here comes into

clinch the division. I'll tell you this, watching watching your

team and and teams your root for all year, and
teams you cover all year, watching them celebrated division never
gets old.

Just it's it's just guys are kids, man, like all
of them. They're just little kids that are really good
at baseball. That's all it is. I mean, Stubbs had
a double funnel last night. Apparently he brought two funnels

Listen, if Stubbs wasn't there, there wouldn't have been a
funnel there last night, and we wouldn't have got videos

You need a mess your ceremonies every once in a while, man,
you need someone to hand out.

Yeah, yeah, I mean, it was just it was an
incredible win, felt like a win that you know, if
somehow there's still people that doubt this baseball team after
clinching the division for the earliest they ever have in
the history of the franchise. If you sat there and
you watched all ten innings last night and you don't
think this team can win the World Series if they

play their best in October, then I don't really know
what to tell you at this point.

Yeah, And I think to like the overall point here
is like the beauty of baseball as a sport when
you talk about from a fandom perspective, is these are
your guys at night in and night out. That this
isn't like football that it's once a week, or this
isn't you know, limited games. It's basically every night you
can flip on a Phillies games. So you got to
live through the highs and lows that come with the season.
And I think there were a ton of dipping points
where people were ready to get off the ship this year,

but nonetheless they did pull through it. And I also
don't think we should forget the dark days of Phillies
baseball before this era, before Bryce Harper, before Kyle Schwarzer.
For a couple of years, yeah, there were some miserable years.
So the fact that this is almost like the norm
for this Phillies team is still something that I think
we should.

Not get like taken for granted. No it doesn't. And
even when you say this is the norm, I'm like
really like.

I don't know how to say that they were a
checond team to clinch in baseball, like seventy clinch playoffs
in baseball, Like this is just a legitimately very good
baseball franchise and should be recognized.

Back back to back division championships and that never gets old.
I love that flag. I don't care. I get it.
People want the big flag out in the outfield. Of
course the World Series championship, but you know, all those years,
I just think about how the Braves dominated this division,
and yeah, I would like a little of that, you know,
regardless if you're not able to win it all, this
is one of the if not the toughest sport to do.

So to become a champion, but to win a division
throughout the course of one sixty two when you're competing
against your your your your main rivals all season long,
including the Mets and the Braves, like, it doesn't get
any better than that. So they go on the road
and win against the Dodgers. Yes, celebrations, the champagne was popping,
the buds were being bound, the lights were strapped up,

their first series, there's a very good chance that it's
Phillies Dodgers in the NLDS. So you know, this is

a team they're probably going to see again. This is
a clubhouse that you know they must be in again
and maybe a clubhouse they're going to be celebrating in again.

To make this thing bigger because if they be the
Dodgers in the NLDS, I think Stubbs might have three
funnels with them that weekend.

played for here, including the overall one seed, the best
the best record in baseball if I'm not mistaken, which
is currently owned possessed by the Milwaukee Brewers, but it's
very obtainable from the Phillies perspective.

What do we need to know from this point moving
on here?

Yeah, So, I mean, you know, the big focus right
now is that first round by and you know, when
I say that, that means either the one seed or
the two seed. Right now, they hold the two seed,
but as of right now, they're also only a game
and a half back of the Rowers, so that one
seed is still in play.

I believe there's eleven games to go.

For each team, So you know that overall one seed
in the National is still in play. But you know,
the main overall goal is to get that one of
those top two seeds.

So right now, the magic number is seven.

It was nine before last night, it went down to
seven as they beat the Dodgers.

which is basically an extra game. So if they win

do think the defense being legitimate is like a notable
takeaway that they are exceeding my expectations there. I do

think Keenan Allen can still play, and it's like a

back to the wagering side of things, the Chargers were

I thought that it was a really good win against
the Patriots on the road, but the Chargers are for

I didn't think that they would have an issue and
Gino through three interceptions made life hell of a lot
easier and the Chargers were the play. Now to the

early game seven o'clock, the best in the business, Joe Buck,
Troy Aikman, and a pretty darn good game too as well.
Twenty nineteen came down to the wire. One of those
games that we said, hmmm, why are the Houston Texans
favored here? And they went up late and that was
about to blow up in our face. But you got
to give credit where credit is due, and I know

Baker Mayfield is the truth. And as far as successful
quarterbacks in the last two three seasons, he is top three.
You look at the numbers across the board, but wow,
do they have us stud in Bucky Irving. Bucky Irving
is a bad man. Get him the rock and get
out the way. He only went for seventy one yards.
He did have a couple of grabs fifty yards, but

that he had two one run, one catch late that
he is just pushing fools off, getting down the field
and extending plays.

Yeah, and the wide receiving group, the mecha Boku who
he brings to that group. Mike Evan's still doing it,
Chris Guy when coming back, Like there's just a ton
of talent, and Baker Mayfield it is just a gangster
man like him. The where he almost got hurt and
then immediate it looked like he got hurt, then he
immediately's up talking trash to CJ. Gardner Johnson, you love
it there, Like that's the type of quarterback that it's

impossible not to root for. And it's so cool to
see like his personality so reflective on the team and
like Baker directly right here has more toughness about him,
more personality about him than the entire Cleveland Browns organization.
Oh yeah, and it's so crazy to think about how
this guy was cast aside as a bust not that
long ago. He's one of the better quarterbacks in the NFL.
And there's no other way to slice that.

two seasons. It might have been the last three, but
Goff topped him with his great day on Sunday. But
then after what Baker did last night, he is now

been a Baker guy. But there is one thing that
I've always said is that he is a cool dude.
And I would imagine that him as your quarterback. That

want to make plays for him. He is that type

you know he's got the athleticism, the skills to make
the plays. So it's not a surprise but it is
really interesting to go back and look at what took

four straight in pursuit of a fifth straight NFC South title.
They are currently right now minus two to fifty five
on Draftings Sports Book. If you remember game one week
one against the Falcons was a really good game there.
Falcons went on the road and beat the Minnesota Vikings.
But if you had to ask me right now is
gonna win that division, It's going to be the Bucks
with the leg up. I was not saying that preseason.

I had the Falcons plus two to fifty right here. Yeah,
the Bucks look like they're the real deal again this year.
And of course, as I said, open it up the

teams still make the playoffs that I do think the
Falcons are going to be a postseason team. I think

the real deal. I think that Atlanta got their guy
for their foreseeable future and have been very impressed with

the score, but everybody was watching it with like the
place was filled.

was watching. They're not watching because they're diehard Penn State fans. No,

to see where we're at at this point in time,
what's happening, where we need to be paying attention as

will tell you, though, Shamanard. Right now, a lot of
these numbers are focusing on the injuries of a number

of quarterbacks across the league, and we have detailed these
and in depth yesterday with Joe Burrow and JJ McCarthy,
Jaden Daniels as well on Thursday. I did skip over
the brock Purty deal, who's dealing with a toe and
a shoulder, doesn't seem like he's going to be back
anytime soon, and Justin Fields with the concussion add him
to the mix as well. So you have five quarterback

injuries that are pretty good with good teams out there,
except for the Jets that are going to have an
effect on the number, and none more that I want
to focus on than the forty nine ers because Mac
Jones made me a believer, albeit against the Saints, but
Mac Jones made me a believer, and I think there's
value there because Mac Jones knows the system plays well,

and I think Kyle Shanahan has not put him in
any dangerous situations. They have the Cardinals coming up here
on Sunday, the twenty first of four to twenty five.
Right now, the forty nine ers are a point and
a half favorite. Forty four and a half is our
total in there.

What exactly do you mean by mac Jones made you
a believer? Like can win this game? Or you're in
on the mac Jones experience?

the question we need to be asking ourselves because the
forty nine ers, and we know they have an improved defense, mccafficka,
remain healthy watch out. I know that they're dealing with
some injuries to Kittle and au Auk excuse me, Ayuk,
Randon Ayuk, but you know you're getting some other players

back in the mix that can go ahead and help
you at the wide receiver position. So we'll see, we'll
see what happens.

But yeah, well half, And it's interesting like San Francisco
is a team that was pretty much perennially in the
Super Bowl conversation these last couple of years and then
basically had one of those everything that could go wrong
did go wrong years last year and they've sort of
a toss to the side this season.

I'm not like super you gotta buy a forty nine
er stock and I'm the biggest brock party guy whatsoever,
but it is strange to me that they've just kind
of and viewed off the map to an extent, which

if they can stay afloat during this mac Jones stretch,
bring back brock Pardy, and find their full gear heading
me on the stretch, they could be a dangerous team.

Yeah, well, that's what happens when you do only win
what five games last year three and fourteen. It was
in my head though they won one, two, three, four,
five six. They won six games last year, they ended

him a forty seven to twenty four So not a

lot to like six and eleven season, and maybe that's
why we wanted to forget. But McCaffrey was banged up
immediately from the start of the season. Having him in there,
no doubt about it. We know what his potential is.
So if they could keep him healthy, I think that's
only going to lead to bigger and better things for

we're just being honest with our assessment and we will

team and and teams your root for all year, and
teams you cover all year, watching them celebrated division never

somehow there's still people that doubt this baseball team after

the history of the franchise. If you sat there and
you watched all ten innings last night and you don't
think this team can win the World Series if they

play their best in October, then I don't really know
what to tell you at this point.

Yeah, And I think to like the overall point here
is like the beauty of baseball as a sport when
you talk about from a fandom perspective, is these are
your guys at night in and night out. That this
isn't like football that it's once a week, or this
isn't you know, limited games. It's basically every night you
can flip on a Phillies games. So you got to
live through the highs and lows that come with the season.
And I think there were a ton of dipping points
where people were ready to get off the ship this year,

but nonetheless they did pull through it. And I also
don't think we should forget the dark days of Phillies
baseball before this era, before Bryce Harper, before Kyle Schwarzer.
For a couple of years, yeah, there were some miserable years.
So the fact that this is almost like the norm
for this Phillies team is still something that I think
we should.

Not get like taken for granted. No it doesn't. And
even when you say this is the norm, I'm like
really like.

I don't know how to say that they were a
checond team to clinch in baseball, like seventy clinch playoffs
in baseball, Like this is just a legitimately very good
baseball franchise and should be recognized.

Back back to back division championships and that never gets old.
I love that flag. I don't care. I get it.
People want the big flag out in the outfield. Of
course the World Series championship, but you know, all those years,
I just think about how the Braves dominated this division,
and yeah, I would like a little of that, you know,
regardless if you're not able to win it all, this
is one of the if not the toughest sport to do.

So to become a champion, but to win a division
throughout the course of one sixty two when you're competing
against your your your your main rivals all season long,
including the Mets and the Braves, like, it doesn't get
any better than that. So they go on the road

a clubhouse that you know they must be in again

seed is still in play.

the main overall goal is to get that one of

back to the wagering side of things, the Chargers were

I thought that it was a really good win against

easier and the Chargers were the play. Now to the

Troy Aikman, and a pretty darn good game too as well.

games that we said, hmmm, why are the Houston Texans
favored here? And they went up late and that was

to give credit where credit is due, and I know

Baker Mayfield is the truth. And as far as successful
quarterbacks in the last two three seasons, he is top three.
You look at the numbers across the board, but wow,
do they have us stud in Bucky Irving. Bucky Irving
is a bad man. Get him the rock and get
out the way. He only went for seventy one yards.
He did have a couple of grabs fifty yards, but

that he had two one run, one catch late that
he is just pushing fools off, getting down the field
and extending plays.

Yeah, and the wide receiving group, the mecha Boku who
he brings to that group. Mike Evan's still doing it,
Chris Guy when coming back, Like there's just a ton
of talent, and Baker Mayfield it is just a gangster
man like him. The where he almost got hurt and
then immediate it looked like he got hurt, then he
immediately's up talking trash to CJ. Gardner Johnson, you love
it there, Like that's the type of quarterback that it's

impossible not to root for. And it's so cool to
see like his personality so reflective on the team and
like Baker directly right here has more toughness about him,
more personality about him than the entire Cleveland Browns organization.
Oh yeah, and it's so crazy to think about how
this guy was cast aside as a bust not that
long ago. He's one of the better quarterbacks in the NFL.
And there's no other way to slice that.

think it was he's now I think it's the last
two seasons. It might have been the last three, but
Goff topped him with his great day on Sunday. But
then after what Baker did last night, he is now
number one at that list most touchdowns stro and I

been a Baker guy. But there is one thing that
I've always said is that he is a cool dude.
And I would imagine that him as your quarterback. That
is something that would galvanize you. You like, you want

want to make plays for him. He is that type

you know he's got the athleticism, the skills to make
the plays. So it's not a surprise but it is
really interesting to go back and look at what took

Beckham's dad had everybody believing that Baker Mayfield was the

And by the way, not just Cleveland, like this dude

four straight in pursuit of a fifth straight NFC South title.
They are currently right now minus two to fifty five
on Draftings Sports Book. If you remember game one week
one against the Falcons was a really good game there.
Falcons went on the road and beat the Minnesota Vikings.
But if you had to ask me right now is
gonna win that division, It's going to be the Bucks
with the leg up. I was not saying that preseason.

I had the Falcons plus two to fifty right here. Yeah,
the Bucks look like they're the real deal again this year.

teams still make the playoffs that I do think the

the real deal. I think that Atlanta got their guy
for their foreseeable future and have been very impressed with

and that the Justin Herbert fight will live on in
my brain. So I was flipping back and forth, but
I won't lie. I was a little more tapped in football.

a quarter in that Chargers game and that was it.
That was done. And yeah, because the ten o'clock the
first game ended, and it was perfect timing because like
the Phillies just started. Yeah, and I'm just.

eyes are already heavy, and it's it's been a long
forty eight since we got back from Penn State, and
you know, oh no, I'm like, all right, let me
get some rest here.

I know the alarm's coming going to be going off
bright and early. With that being said, a lot of
diehards up early and watching the game. Of course, it
was a great game, Harper hitting the home run, of course,
the blown save, and then the Phillies getting the job
done winning six to five bases loaded a matter of
fact for the Dodgers, but won out, I want to say,

and still to win that game in the bottom of
the ten, So a lot of drama between those two teams.
I went and got a Starbucks iced coffee on my
way in, and as I was walking in, as I
were my Phillies cat guys like you stay up late
last night, and I'm like, I want to lie to you, Sarah,
but I did, and I was like, oh, you missed
a thriller. They don't rub it in. Shout out to
cousin Nikki checking and he said, everybody hit that like

there coming down to the wire. I think they scored
a touchdown twice personally in the Villanova at the end there,
but nonetheless in insane cover and All Timer.

Yeah, and I told the story yesterday. I was very
honest as Offternam with the listening audience. And you know, look,
you don't want to put it out there that we
left the game early, but it was. It was an
interesting game day experience up there at Penn State. They
are going through some issues with this construction. That's just
as fair as I could be, but it was. It
was brutal and the lines were ridiculous. So we got

out at about halftime when they were down twenty four
to nothing. I was starving, I know the boys were
hungry and thirsty as well. So we ended up heading
downtown to a wonderful spot I think the place Brothers
was it correct, and we got a table, got some
great food, and we were literally the only people in
there with Villanova plus forty eight and a half. And

it wasn't like we were obnoxious because the score was
the score, but everybody was watching it with like the
place was filled.
Speaker 4 (43:47):
It's forty what was it?
Speaker 3 (43:49):
It was fifty two to nothing, Yeah, it was fifty
two to nothing. It's fifty two to nothing, and everybody
was watching. They're not watching because they're diehard Penn State fans. No,
they're watching because they know the number. Forty eight and
a half. Doesn't mean that everybody had to play on
it doesn't mean that everybody's betting on Penn State.
Speaker 4 (44:09):
I'm just telling you.

That everybody was watching, and when it happened, the play
itself had everybody just their jaws in the ground, and
then of course, the big gasp of air, like, oh
and here our table is high five and going nuts.
I think I recorded it on a video and I

Friday show was great. That have Mark Farante coach roll
through and just having the red carpet rolled out for
us as play Fly did for both Villanova and Penn State.
A fantastic weekend. And now look, Penn State's got to
hit the fast forward button get ready for Oregon. It

is going to be a tough game. And I know
Penn State is good. I Organ's really good though, and
it's gonna be a tough battle. But it's a wide
out home game for the Nittyllions. We'll see.

Yeah, and I know the number like obviously ended a

There was a minute where I was like, Okay, Villanove
was keeping this a game or half? Yeah, the first half,
especially the third quarter, is when really things broke open there.
But that first half, like there was a moment where
it was I think they were up seventeen and it
was like Noah was driving. They if they tie it there,
then we're talking about a ten point game like there was.
It didn't feel as dead as the number indicates or
the final score indicates. There that I think Noviad deserve

some credit for at least scrapping in the first half.

I think that's exactly what coach Fronte is going to
say today live from Chickens and pezz in uh Malvern. Yeah,
Oregon has Oregon State this weekend and then they'll have
Pens or then they have Penn State. At twenty seventh,
did we leave really, Cousin Nicky was fifty two to nothing?
Like kill Dog? Did we leave early? Fifty two to nothing?

Bro Like, come on man, you know like it was
hot if we were up there, I'm telling you. At halftime,
I went to go get a drink, and the line
went to go get a drink right before halftime and
use the facility. I'll just put it to you that way.
And the line to get a drink was not It

not going to happen. And then the bathroom line was
and I'm just like, all right, I've had enough. I'm out.

Guys like and I met two dudes that were awesome
right behind us, had ice cold beer. There was a
tailgate lot right where we were parked, so I had
some facilities. And you know, the cool thing was, they're
the big jumbo tron of a TV right next to
the RV. They had the game on. So come on, man,
I'm out in the lot hanging out with a couple
of dudes. It was a good time, a beautiful day

up there in Happy Valley. We will talk some college
football here. We will get into a little of that
as far as the numbers are concerned, the big games
and everything that we have coming up over here in
the next few days. But I do want to get
into the NFL and of course what we have going
on with some of the debating topics now coming up.
At four o'clock, we'll do Tuesday Tells, and we like
(47:05):
to look at the numbers. We like to go from
the opening number that they come out on Sunday night
to see where we're at at this point in time,
what's happening, where we need to be paying attention as
far as the number movement, all that and more. I
will tell you, though, Shamanard. Right now, a lot of
these numbers are focusing on the injuries of a number
(47:26):
of quarterbacks across the league, and we have detailed these
and in depth yesterday with Joe Burrow and JJ McCarthy,
Jaden Daniels as well on Thursday. I did skip over
the brock Purty deal, who's dealing with a toe and
a shoulder, doesn't seem like he's going to be back
anytime soon, and Justin Fields with the concussion add him
to the mix as well. So you have five quarterback
(47:48):
injuries that are pretty good with good teams out there,
except for the Jets that are going to have an
effect on the number, and none more that I want
to focus on than the forty nine ers because Mac
Jones made me a believer, albeit against the Saints, but
Mac Jones made me a believer, and I think there's
value there because Mac Jones knows the system plays well,
(48:10):
and I think Kyle Shanahan has not put him in
any dangerous situations. They have the Cardinals coming up here
on Sunday, the twenty first of four to twenty five.
Right now, the forty nine ers are a point and
a half favorite. Forty four and a half is our
total in there.
Speaker 8 (48:22):
What exactly do you mean by mac Jones made you
a believer? Like can win this game? Or you're in
on the mac Jones experience?
Speaker 4 (48:28):
No, no, no, yah, can win the game? Over in
the game.
Speaker 3 (48:30):
All you want from a backup quarterback is to win
you a game. Well you did that. And I'm not
a believer in the Cardinals, So I think I'm looking
at that number and that number makes you want to
believe in the Cardinals a little bit more. But I
think there's some value here and I think the odds
makers are undervaluing mac Jones.
Speaker 4 (48:48):
Yeah, I don't hate that take, I know we had.
Speaker 8 (48:49):
I love the discussion we had on Friday talking about
is it Kevin O'Connell or Kyle Shanahan is the most
quarterback friendly system or a guy that can make basically
any guy work. Well, both coaches are now being asked
to do exactly that. We got the Carson Wentz experience
in Minnesota and of course Mac Jones out there in San.
Speaker 4 (49:03):
Francisco, so yeah, we're gonna see it. I'm with you that.

I just don't think this Chargers team has much to
be perfectly honest, Kyler Murray, I felt look better.

beat the Saints, but he looked good in that game,
and I just am starting to buy a little bit
of the Shanahan wanted him, knows what he can do
with him, and that is an intriguing game from the
standpoint of the division, and if they can continue to
win with him in there as a starting quarterback over

and get a healthy brock perty back in the mix,
we'll see, We'll see what happens. And I think that's
the question we need to be asking ourselves because the
forty nine ers, and we know they have an improved defense, mccafficka,
remain healthy watch out. I know that they're dealing with
some injuries to Kittle and au Auk excuse me, Ayuk,
Randon Ayuk, but you know you're getting some other players
(50:34):
back in the mix that can go ahead and help
you at the wide receiver position. So we'll see, we'll
see what happens.
Speaker 8 (50:39):
But yeah, well half, And it's interesting like San Francisco
is a team that was pretty much perennially in the
Super Bowl conversation these last couple of years and then
basically had one of those everything that could go wrong
did go wrong years last year and they've sort of
a toss to the side this season.

Speaker 8 (50:52):
I'm not like super you gotta buy a forty nine
er stock and I'm the biggest brock party guy whatsoever,
but it is strange to me that they've just kind
of and viewed off the map to an extent, which
I don't think they necessarily deserve that. So we'll see
if they can stay afloat during this mac Jones stretch,
bring back brock Pardy, and find their full gear heading
me on the stretch, they could be a dangerous team.

So I'm not counting them out completely.

Yeah, well, that's what happens when you do only win
what five games last year three and fourteen. It was
in my head though they won one, two, three, four,
five six. They won six games last year, they ended
on a four game losing streak to the Rams, the
Miami Dolphins, the Detroit Lions, and then the Cardinals got
him a forty seven to twenty four So not a
(51:34):
lot to like six and eleven season, and maybe that's
why we wanted to forget. But McCaffrey was banged up
immediately from the start of the season. Having him in there,
no doubt about it. We know what his potential is.
So if they could keep him healthy, I think that's
only going to lead to bigger and better things for
the forty nine ers this year. Nobody wants that, but
we're just being honest with our assessment and we will

do that more on the other side, what Tuesday tells
a feature here on the Daily Ticket Tuesdays with sham
Manard and myself, we're gonna look at the opening lines
of all things NFL week three.
