Speaker 1 (00:00):
Anyways, you have to take our way for it.
Speaker 2 (00:01):
Great finish, great finish in the SEC tournament.
Speaker 1 (00:05):
I'll tell you what. That's what it's all about.
Speaker 2 (00:07):
But it's an appetizer because the madness will be here
starting next week. First four on Tuesday gets started. Of course,
selection Sunday going off here on the sixteenth, will be
live for you Sunday evening, giving you all of hopefully
some good pointers and perspectives for teams that could potentially
win six straight as the bracket unfolds all right, joining
(00:29):
us right now on the Gambler hotline, representing the squad
over our DraftKings sports book. He knows a thing or
two about a thing or two when it comes to
the world of college hoops. This is his time to shine,
damn it. Julian Edlow joining us right here, right now
on the Daily Ticket. Julian, how are we doing good?
Speaker 1 (00:44):
Afternoon?
Speaker 3 (00:46):
We're doing all right. We're hanging in there as you
come to me to speak. I sweat out a UNC
double result and there we go. Wakenesses at the buzzer.
So UNC leads by two at aftime. My double result
is alive.
Speaker 1 (01:00):
Who double result?
Speaker 3 (01:02):
That was good timing. I was you pitched it to me, right,
the right to.
Speaker 2 (01:05):
Live squat double result meaning first half and final.
Speaker 3 (01:09):
Score, lead, lead at halftime, and win the game. I
like doing those with those like six point favorites. You
don't want to lay it win by seven, that's a lot,
But uh, those like six point favorites you usually get
right around the minus one ten range, So it doesn't
get more correlated than betting on a team to win
and betting them to get off to do a good start.
So I do like doing a handful of those around
(01:31):
this time of year.
Speaker 2 (01:32):
Damn right, let it to more than marry. You're a
drafting sports book and they got a ton to choose from.
Make sure you check out everything over at DraftKings sports
Book and for all your madness needs and of course
conference tournament needs as well. All right, Julian, let's just
get the hypothetical question of the day, and you know
where I'm going with the injury of Cooper Flag.
Speaker 1 (01:51):
Yeah, why play these guys? Why play these studs?
Speaker 2 (01:55):
Why play these these players of significance in a torn
that just does not matter? Oh and tell them the
conference tournament's matter. It simply doesn't. The seating is in
on Friday. Half of these big time teams don't even
play until Friday, right, well, some do today whatever. And
all I'm saying is, I'm not specifically talking about full
(02:16):
team sitting out. I'm talking about Cooper Flag, who is
potentially the number one overall pick. I'm talking about Kentucky
players of years past, when Kentucky fans don't give a
damn about the SEC tournament. You know, so why are
we playing players of substance significance in these conference tournament games?
Speaker 1 (02:35):
Is there any pushback on that from your opinion? I
understand the argument.
Speaker 3 (02:41):
I'm against it overall, but I understand the argument, and
you know, I think what it comes down to is
college basketball is just different than the NBA. There's only
so many games. There is no load management in college basket.
Of all, it all counts. So again, I get your
(03:03):
argument the most when it gets to a Cooper Flag
who has completely locked himself into a number one pick.
Duke I probably could have lost today and been a
one seed, not the one seed, but a one seed,
so it doesn't affect their chances to win the national title.
I get that, but it just feels a little ickier
(03:28):
in college basketball than the NBA, right, Like, there's something
pure about college sports where every game matters, and I
appreciate keeping the integrity of that. So there is something
to being a conference tournament champion to some teams, not
all to some. Calipari doesn't care about it. But Calipari
(03:50):
also doesn't know that you can just hit a free
throw to go up four two and a half seconds
and there's no way you're going to lose the game.
So people think differently, And my thought process would be,
go out there and try. You didn't get hurt all
even long. Why are you going to get hurt on
Thursday afternoon against Georgia Tech is a twenty three point favorite.
Speaker 2 (04:09):
Yeah, and of course this is Thursday Morning quarterback revisionist
History Times ten, no doubt about it. But as I
asked Sam, from my co host here, Sam Austria, I said,
do you think that they had this conversation before the
tournament started?
Speaker 1 (04:24):
And absolutely they did it. They did discuss these sort
of deals like is it worth it?
Speaker 2 (04:30):
And you know what, I will also say, Scott Van
Pelt and Stanford Steve just did a podcast where they
were rant and raving about these conference tournaments and what
do they actually mean and I don't know. And also
the cherry on the top will move off of it.
Like I said, it's heavily revisionist history. From my standpoint,
because I am a fan of these conference tournaments.
Speaker 1 (04:50):
I love the action. I don't want to see anybody sit.
Speaker 2 (04:53):
But the number one item on the board family feud
style number one answer. College sports just continue to change
and then some There's so many significant movements in college hoops,
college football, college sports in general in the last two seasons, uh,
due to the nil the portals and everything that you
can match, you know, money being made all that. So
(05:14):
it wouldn't shock me that if somebody said, you know what,
like the conference tournament's good, but guess what, we got
nothing to gain. Let's play our young guns. Let's play
some guys that I want to keep in this program,
and maybe they will look at things a little bit
differently than transferring and hitting the portal.
Speaker 1 (05:29):
I don't know, just thinking out loud, and obviously it's.
Speaker 3 (05:31):
Well, what's the like, what's the what's the game? In
the late regular season games then like do CA had
to beat North Carolina ract accuse doesn't know. Michigan, Michigan
State Michigan State, for example, won ten on Thursday night,
then destroyed Michigan in a big rivalry game on Sunday afternoon,
(05:51):
but that that was essentially a meaningless game.
Speaker 2 (05:54):
You're right, But I would say is and in my opinion,
and I would imagine both you guys agreeing me, the
regular season means ten.
Speaker 1 (06:01):
Times more than a conference tournament.
Speaker 4 (06:04):
Yeah, I was under the I think the regular season
title means more. It's still an accomplishment to hang the
banner for the conference tournament, Okay, Like that still means
something like hanging those banners. Winning championships, even if it's
within your conference, even if your conference stinks like the ACC,
that means something. So yes, the regular season matters more
because you're going through just a certain teams are going
(06:27):
through brutal schedules and it's it's months and months of
just traveling all around your conference. But the conference title
also means something. To go to a neutral site location
and win three or four straight games, that's important too,
Like banners mean something.
Speaker 2 (06:43):
Okay, I will you know, look, I'm playing a role
of Devil's advocate a little bit here.
Speaker 1 (06:49):
And trying to, you know, embrace the bait. On a
daily ticket.
Speaker 2 (06:53):
But at the end of the day, I think there's
definitely something that will be discussed moving forward, and especially
you're gonna see it all over the place in the
next forty eight hours to.
Speaker 1 (07:00):
Cooper Flag getting hurt, Julian.
Speaker 2 (07:02):
As far as odds movement, anything changing from Duke's perspective,
what's your big takeaway with Cooper Flag going down.
Speaker 1 (07:07):
The way he did so?
Speaker 3 (07:09):
Initially the number did move and it wasn't as aggressive
as DraftKings as it was at other shops, but there
was a pretty big move on Duke right away, uh
dropping down the board Auburn Clear Cup favorite, and that's
come back to now floating around uh co favorites. God,
I need to I can't look at sportsbook on my
(07:30):
computer right now because I need to log back into
z scaler and stuff happened to people. I hate this anyway.
Speaker 1 (07:36):
The scaler is something? What is z scaler? What do
you got? I don't know, man, I don't know.
Speaker 3 (07:41):
I can barely check my email. I'm not a tech guy,
but I just I throw my laptop at people and
tell them to fix it.
Speaker 1 (07:49):
Is that a drafting thing?
Speaker 3 (07:51):
I don't know, man. I'm probably now I probably like
gave away come.
Speaker 1 (07:55):
Here, Yeah you're right, yeah, well yeah, I.
Speaker 3 (07:57):
Don't know, so whatever you you guys, long story shortsats
and check the sportsbook for me and see if Auburn
and Duke are are around neck and neck right now?
Speaker 1 (08:08):
They are?
Speaker 3 (08:12):
Yeah yeah, yeah, so right where they were essentially, And
that reaction game when Flag walked back to the bench
with the with a sneaker on, so very immediate reactions there,
from wheelchair to walking with shoes on. That uh ping
Pong's the odds around quite a bit. Let me say
this though, because we were talking before the segment and
I was telling you like, I'm almost more excited looking
(08:33):
ahead days in March than I am about the current day.
I'm already number one. I'm hoping UNC wins this game
because I went a beat. But number two UNC just
had Duke on the ropes at home. They get blown
out down the home stretched. If they could get Duke
tomorrow without Cooper Flag and Malik Brown in a game
(08:53):
that they'd still be right on the bubble. But you
beat Duke even without Cooper Flag, you're in. If we
can at that scenario tomorrow. I'm very curious how many
points we would be getting with Carolina, and you want
to talk about sitting guys out. There's no way Cooper
Flag is playing tomorrow. No, So yeah, that's that's a
spot that when this game, that that halftime ends, I
(09:16):
will be looking to jump on right away.
Speaker 2 (09:18):
Yeah, we were even taking it a step further, as
obviously you would with that injury, and it's about what
are you going to do? What's your approach? Again, we
don't know the significance of the injury. We know the
act rays came back negative. We know how special player is.
So that's the main reason why I'm you know, opening
the show up with it and continuing to hammer at home.
Speaker 1 (09:37):
This dude was about as special as it gets.
Speaker 2 (09:39):
We're talking about potentially the number one player in all
of basketball with the Wooden Award. We're talking about potentially
being the number one overall pick pretty much he will be.
And then some how great he was on defense like
he he is the end all be all for Duke's
chances to win a championship this year six straight now
without him, I think they're a good team, but I
(10:00):
definitely don't think that they're going to cut the nets
down in the tournament. Now, my question would be, how
would there what's going to be their approach when this
tournament gets going. I don't play him in that one
versus sixteen.
Speaker 1 (10:11):
No way, no way.
Speaker 3 (10:15):
Yeah, I you know, ankles are tough. Some guys miraculously
pop back from them when you see, you know, their
ankles touching the floor, and they play a couple days later,
and some guys take a while. I understand the cautious approach.
I would expect he misses the ACC tournament and then
(10:35):
you reassess it next week. But yeah, if you can
rest him till a one eight on a Saturday or
a Sunday and watch the committee have Duke play Friday
and Sunday so that he gets an even extra day
of rest, I would you know the one eight for
Duke is no gimme. Duke is a young team. There's
going to be really good eights. Like you look, get
(10:57):
who's on the eight line right now. It's your you
or you know, pretty good teams sitting there. So I
would say that's when you want them back. You could
try and rest them to the sweet sixteen. But I
think the easy answer I agree with you. Right now
you'd be looking at next Saturday or Sunday. So that's
(11:17):
what eight nine days?
Speaker 1 (11:20):
Ice up? Ice up. Steve Smith, Right, he's been Smith,
that's right, ice up.
Speaker 4 (11:27):
So let me just say I love that North Carolina
look ahead that Julian's talking about. I was eyeing that
game for potential ACC Tournament semi final between Duke and
North Carolina and loving North Carolina in that spot because
that's in and in, in win and in game for
North Carolina. They win that they're in the tournament now
without Cooper Flag and look, they played Duke tough in
(11:49):
that first half, Like Julians said, So, I think this
is a great spot a desperate North Carolina team if
they can escape Wake Forest, who only up two at
halftime right now against but if they can is Wait Forest.
I don't as I think North Carolina would still be underdogs.
I wonder way you think about that, Julian, But they'd
probably been around like three four point underdogs, maybe even more.
Speaker 1 (12:10):
I'm taking North Carolina oh.
Speaker 3 (12:13):
More. They they were just touched twelve and a half
as low as ten point home underdogs to Duke five
days ago, and now points do.
Speaker 1 (12:25):
You think flag shifts a line? Good question?
Speaker 3 (12:30):
Not seven I don't think he's big, but I don't
I'm looking at like five and a half six with
the Carolina would be my guest.
Speaker 4 (12:40):
But you know, you know a lot of people I
feel like would come in on North Carolina too, which
would which would move that line down?
Speaker 3 (12:45):
That why, that's why this is not a wake up
on on Friday and bedit thing. This is a hopefully
Carolina wins and then on DraftKings sports book. Literally within
about sixty seconds, you're gonna see that game pop. So
you know, if you live your life like I do,
you're sitting there waiting for it.
Speaker 2 (13:03):
Yeah, Julian, great stuff across the board, all things College Houpes.
Speaker 1 (13:08):
Make sure you're following Julian.
Speaker 2 (13:09):
And I know that DraftKings has a ton going on
right now over at dknetwork dot com. What are you
guys rolling out specifically to help the folks out there
in the listening audience as far as wagering on conference
Toma and madness. You guys got some splits? What else
is available on DK network that we can find to
help us out here?
Speaker 3 (13:28):
Yeah? Everything, man, The splits are free every day on
DraftKings Network. I usually tweet out the link to that
the most bet player props are free on the DraftKings
Network website. We are working with team rankings, so if
you read any DK network article during March Madness, you'll
see a link to their pool Genius, which is just
(13:49):
another tool to help you fill out brackets obviously for
filling out your bracket, can also help you with some
underdog bets or however you want to view that. And
then just ramping up the content. It's myself and five
other writers, one of them Sean Bernard, who I know
is on the show today. Hell ye, who are cranking
out college content like close to every game every day,
(14:10):
and during the mark during the NCAA Tournament, it will
be every game every day. So the DraftKings Network College
Basketball homepage it is my pinned tweet right now with
links to follow all the other writers that are contributing,
so certainly check that out.
Speaker 1 (14:24):
Excellent stuff.
Speaker 2 (14:24):
Yeah, so we'll be out a little bit later all right,
before we dive into all things NBA and talk about
last night's game between the Oklahoma City Thunder and Boston Celtics,
was continued down the path of college hoops and I'm
curious where are we at right now? As far as
teams that could potentially win it all. This is a
fun question to have with you throughout the course of
the season. Never really pin you down, but do you
(14:46):
always throw some teams out there? I believe you even
was flirting with Iowa State. Is there any teams that
you had your eye on that you were automatically eliminating before?
I'm sure there's plenty of teams actually, but maybe some
teams out there that you thought potent, actually could win
it all, could win six straight. But before the bracket
comes out on Sunday, you're saying, no, I want no
part of that. And on the flip side of that coin, Julian,
(15:07):
is there a team, regardless of the path, that you're
going to have in a Final four, championship game, Elite eight,
anything like.
Speaker 1 (15:14):
That for you? Are you a bracket?
Speaker 3 (15:16):
I got to see it first, Yeah, I mean seeing
the bracket always helps a lot. So again, nobody should
pin anyone down on anything they say until you see
the brackets. But I think Iowa State, who's a team
that I do have some money on. I think I'm
taking them out. But again, they sat there starting backcourt today.
(15:39):
I ideally, because you'd think they would be healthy next week,
so we'll see. Like that's a team that's had life.
I don't know how deep you want to go down
to do. I think everybody's dry on the line through
like Kansas's and Yukon's, but like they are the big
name teams. They did take a lot of money preseason,
so people are still rooting on their tickets. Like I'm
(15:59):
out on those teams making a run. Everyone's gonna have
Auburn and Duke, assuming Flag is healthy, making really deep runs.
And they've been teams that have been saying all year
Auburn is very mistake prone coming this time of year,
Duke is very young, as good as they are on defense,
as good as they are shooting the ball. So I
will look to maybe have those teams bounced given the
(16:22):
right matchup. But again that's that's to see the bracket
type of play. What I will say, if Houston and
Florida are on opposite ends of the bracket, that's gonna
be my championship games.
Speaker 2 (16:34):
And Florida that is a swing for the fences. I
wasn't ready for that one. Nice, Okay, why are you
so confident in that game?
Speaker 3 (16:44):
I just like how both teams have played throughout really
the course of the season. Florida has been good all
the way around. Houston had to shake off some early cobwebs.
They lost to Auburn, they had a bat I'd lost
to San Diego State, they had one other bad one
in there. But they've you know, the form that they're
(17:07):
in and how they go at it every game. Like
they don't have flat spots, and neither does Florida, who
went on the road and beat Auburn, went on the
road and beat Alabama, deep talented, veteran backcourt, a lot
of BIG's depths there. Like, I think Florida is a
team that would match up really well with Duke, and
(17:27):
that could be a matchup I see them winning. I
think that Houston is a team that would match up
really well with Auburn and be looking to get revenge
from an earlier season whatever it was, November December loss.
So that's the way I'm looking at it right now.
I always reserve the right to change my mind until
Thursday at noon, but or next Thursday at noon, but
(17:48):
that's where I'm looking right now. I would be surprised
if Florida and Houston, if they wind up on opposite
ends of the bracket. That'll be my final. Don't know
who I'm picking to win, so hopefully I don't have
to make that a fine a four matchup on one side.
Speaker 2 (18:01):
All right, let's go rapid fire, close up shop here
in college hoops. We got some big ones here, and
we'll start with at home Villanova coming up a little
bit later tonight.
Speaker 1 (18:08):
Ticket on Yukon.
Speaker 2 (18:09):
It's looking like seven currently Undraftkings Sportsbook Yukon seven point
favorites at MSG. Villanova already beat them one time, hung
with them in that first half. I don't think you
can really do much with them up there in Connecticut.
Your thoughts on that game, if anything?
Speaker 3 (18:24):
Yeah, this one opened three and a half wowow night
so themed, and I agree with the money. I'm not
gonna lay seven though. I put Yukon in a money
line parlay. I used them with Kentucky going up against Oklahoma,
who upset Georgia yesterday. I think that's gonna be a
tough game for them. But yeah, Yukon a money line
(18:45):
parlay leg for me for sure.
Speaker 2 (18:47):
All Right, Oklahoma and Kentucky is going to be another one,
but we'll skip that since you already gave us the
lean there SMU and Clemson Clemson six and a half.
I was thinking about SMU as far as between football
and basketball. They've had a hell of a year in
that athletic department. Nice work by them folks down there.
The Mustangs. They're six and a half point dogs against Clemson.
Any thoughts on that one tonight join at nine thirty.
Speaker 3 (19:09):
Yeah, this is another one where it's favorite or pass
for me. I have a lot of respect for Clemson.
I think they're a very tough veteran team. We saw
that in the Duke win. We saw it when they
smashed UNC. I think this team, who went to the
Elite eight last year, by the way, and brought a
lot of guys back, is a team that can play.
So again, I don't like laying sevens in conference tournaments
(19:32):
this time of year, So this would be another one
a moneyline parlay. Leg It's in that range where you
can get a fairly priced halftime, full time result if
you want to just plaim to get out to a
good start and win. So when I like favorites at
that number around now, that's that's generally how I'm playing them, all.
Speaker 2 (19:51):
Right, lied to you. We do have four games for tomorrow.
What do you have your eyes on the most? DraftKings
currently has four games Michigan State, Oregon, four and a
half for Sparti, Ole Miss and a Auburn ten and
a half. What's the one player eyeing up the most
for tomorrow?
Speaker 3 (20:05):
Yeah. I was hoping to get like an Arkansas getting
thirteen and a half or something like that against Auburn,
just because Arkansas is so athletic matches up with Auburn. Well,
but I'll go Ole Miss ten and a half. That's
most likely going to be a play for me. Again,
I think Auburn is a team to fade this time
of year. I think they've peaked. I'm not saying they're
(20:25):
bad or they're not, you know, a top five team
in the country, top eight team in the country, they are.
I just think they've they've already peaked and they're coming
down a little bit. And we saw that with losses
to good teams Texas, A and M and Bama to
wrap up the regular season. I just think it is
trending downward on Auburn. Who again sees what happens to
(20:46):
do today and says, why don't we just hold on
to our number one seed. Not that they're gonna fit, guys,
but what's the reason to go all out? Whereas an
old miss catching double digits that feels pretty good.
Speaker 2 (20:57):
I'll tell you what great job joining on it college
basketball scene, as you always often do here, but I did.
I was hit with this Sam and Julian yesterday. So
I built somewhat of a studio in my house back
in twenty seventeen, twenty eighteen, maybe even earlier than that,
if I'm honest with you. Anyways, I put two like
(21:18):
decent sized TVs. I think they're fifty five inches. If
I had to guess, two fifty five's up? Man, If
I could go over and do it all over again,
it's two TVs. There's no reason you just need one
big TV. The quadbox. With the Quadbox, YouTube TV has
revolutionized the game.
Speaker 1 (21:35):
Man's that's the setup.
Speaker 3 (21:36):
To I can't I have this argument all the time.
And this is again I told you earlier I'm gonna
battle with z Scaler here. I can barely check my
email like I'm that guy. But I don't like the
Quadbox because you can't always pick your games. I need
my games, So I am a guy, I have four TVs.
Speaker 1 (21:57):
What game is not on the quad box? Like, what
do you bet?
Speaker 2 (21:59):
And sent Florida or something like, what's what's the game
you're looking for?
Speaker 1 (22:03):
Division?
Speaker 3 (22:04):
You can't tell me. You can't tell me what the
bet and I want it on my TV?
Speaker 1 (22:07):
Is in YouTube TV?
Speaker 2 (22:08):
Fixing that because I feel like a lot of people
were saying that last year though, and they didn't.
Speaker 1 (22:12):
You're right, it's it was a little up and the.
Speaker 3 (22:15):
Even fixed it. You're right. I'm telling you. I have
a friend that, like, you know, we we go to
each other's houses watch some games that when I'm over there,
I'm like, so we really can't get this combination of
games and he's like no, no, And I'm like, well,
I'm out on.
Speaker 2 (22:29):
Julian needs Florida, Atlantic and Charlotte to have a corner,
all right.
Speaker 1 (22:32):
He's got a lot of money. I'm shure, yeah, we
have that right now.
Speaker 3 (22:35):
What it is? You don't need to know what it is.
I just need it.
Speaker 2 (22:37):
It's I love it all right Over to the NBA.
Juliana had a big one in your backyard last night.
I said, going into it, it's hard to make a
big deal, especially about both of those teams. We know
what their potential is, X, Y, and Z. But if
you made me give you an angle for last night's
game heading into it, I said, this is a game
for Oklahoma City to really show what they're made of.
(22:59):
Everybody at this point in time is kind of stretched
out thin with their schedules. I'm talking about just general
sports fans. They're tuning in. Oh, it's one versus two,
Let's see what you got. I thought the only thing
I could take away was whether or not Oklahoma City
if they did go in there and win the way
that they did, I was lying because on the other
side of that, Boston loses. And I get it. Both
teams are doing a little of injuries. I'm just curious
(23:21):
about the three point approach. Live by the three, Die
by the three. Did they shoot as many three pointers
last year as they are this year?
Speaker 1 (23:31):
Where are you at?
Speaker 2 (23:31):
Because you're the perfect person to ask that question. Are
they different with their approach as far as shooting threes
this year compared to last year.
Speaker 3 (23:39):
I don't know about different, but it is ticking up
a little bit. They're on record setting pace three point wise.
I'm pretty split on it because I think it's like
you're playing analytics, you're playing numbers, which is fine, but
at some point you have to add a human element
to the game. And that's the same way that I
(24:01):
would like, say, to handicap a game, Like you know,
tomorrow we're talking about UNC Duke, it's going to be
this many points. We're also adding a human element of
we don't really know how many points flag is worth.
And UNC is playing for a a NCAA tournament berth
while Duke is set in stone one seed, So like
it's all about splitting that down the middle, or splitting
(24:23):
it however you feel you need to split it. So
I did see some numbers that like they took a
lot of open to wide open threes and they shot
a pretty decently lower than average percentage on those, So
maybe they did have a little bit of bad luck
on the threes. And again that'll lose you games sometimes.
But like I've been saying on this show and every show,
(24:45):
are going all year, I don't think, Okay, s he's
two and all against Boston, I still don't think there's
a team that beats Boston four times in seven games
in a row. They're going to get their spots. But
like those shots are going to go in at a
much higher clip two days later and the Celtics will
win that game. So that's where I'm at there. But
at the same time, Okac shot, however, many more free
(25:07):
throws than Boston a ton more, and everybody on Twitter
because I follow a lot of Celtics counts, it seems
to be complaining about that. Yes, SGA had some flops,
but they were driving to the hole and creating contact.
Boston wasn't. They shot two to two pointers in the
first quarter. Yep, So how do you expect to go
to the free throw line if you're just floating around
(25:27):
the perimeter shooting threes. So there is a time in
that game late where you know it was tied, you
missed a couple threes. Now at six, maybe you go
to the rim there with limited time left because you
can't afford to play the percentages and see if the
threes keep missing. They did, they missed, then it was eleven,
and then the game's over. So like that's what I
mean about splitting up the numbers in the human element.
At some point you have to say, like, maybe the
(25:49):
better idea right now is to put my head down
and go to the rim, which Tatum and Brown are
fantastic at. So I would like to see a little
bit more of that.
Speaker 4 (25:56):
My problem with Boston's threes it's not the volume. I
don't care about the volume. They're shooting six more threes
per game this year than they were last year. But
it's not the volume that I have a problem with.
It's how you're generating those threes. And the problem right
now with Celtics is last year they had an inside
out approach and this all goes back to Kristaps Porzingis
his health because you had Kristaps Porzingi's post ups. Like
(26:17):
the Kristaps Porzingis post us was one of the most efficient.
Speaker 1 (26:19):
Plays in all of basketball.
Speaker 4 (26:20):
Last year, they were scoring one point one to three
points per post up. Last year the Celtics that was
the best in the league. Now they're one point h
one on post ups this year. It's not even top
seven league. So they're driving the ball less. Their drives
are down per game. They're not generating threes in the
same way. So I don't care about the volume. It's
it's that you're you have variety to your offense. Is
that you're you had Kristaps Perzingis post ups. Last year
(26:42):
you had the driving kick, which obviously they still do
a lot of. But you're not generating threes as well
as you were last year. I don't care about the volume.
They're gonna shoot a ton of threes. Obviously, twenty for
sixty three for thirty one percent last night. It is
just an absurd No, Well, that's just what they're gonna do.
They're gonna shoot a lot of threes.
Speaker 3 (26:58):
You know.
Speaker 4 (26:58):
If they're hot, they're gonna win games. If cold like that,
they're gonna lose. It's gonna come down to three point arrants.
They have good shooters, but it's how you're generating threes,
and and that's the problem. And that goes all back
to Christaps Porzingi's like, why those post up numbers aren't
as good as they were is because Porzingis hasn't consistently
played this year, and he hasn't played in long stretches.
So it all goes back to the health with me.
(27:20):
But I will say there's another concern, and I'll ask
you about this. We're sitting regression from Jalen Brown and
Drew Holiday, and this isn't just the last night thing.
Jalen Brown was obviously awful last night he found out
of the herocious, but this wasn't just the last night thing.
He's been worse this year than he was last year.
His scoring per forty is slightly down, his true shooting
(27:42):
percentage is the worst it's been in six years. His
three point numbers are down. He's not scoring and shooting
the ball as well. And the Drew Holiday regression is
pretty obvious too. If those guys aren't producing at that level,
I'd be worried about the Calves.
Speaker 3 (28:00):
Yeah, the two Like I have in my mind reasons
why that's happening. The Holiday thing, I think he's dinged up.
He's been in and out of the lineup a lot.
I think Holiday is hurt and that's cause for regression. Brown.
I honestly think he got too jacked this offseason. I
don't know if you guys have noticed.
Speaker 1 (28:15):
From he does.
Speaker 3 (28:18):
He came back to if you go back to the
media day ones though, he's even more buff, and I
think he's you know, the course of the season, you're
not lifting as much, you're running more. I think he's
trimmed down a little over the season, but I don't know,
maybe doing all that lift everybody. Everybody's gone to the
gym throwing some weights around, and then you go into
go to the basketball court and put a hole in
(28:39):
the backboard like I did. Jalen Brown get too strong.
I don't know, Like why this year? Why is the
finals MVP? Uh having this regression? I don't know. Maybe
I'm wrong, but that's that's what I have in my head.
Hopefully it's something those two guys can improve on in
the next six weeks leading up to the playoffs. Uh.
(29:02):
But yeah, Porzingis is the best, the biggest thing being
on and off the court. But like we've talked about
on the show, like you got to plan not to
have him. He wasn't there last year. He was there
in a very limited capacity. He essentially got you off
to a great start in Game one of the Finals,
and that was really his only contribution other than being
available on a few other nights. So you got to
be ready to win without him. And if you do
(29:22):
have him for Cleveland and OKC, which are the two
matchups you need him the most, that's a luxury. But
that again goes back to something I've talked about on
the show, like why Is. Porzingis out now over two
weeks with an illness. He said, what is this guy like?
I don't know. So if this is like a shrewd
way of creating some load management, I'm fine with that.
(29:42):
I don't know if it is or isn't. Like Porzingis
has had a weird injury history, but uh, if they
want to get creative with him. If they want to
get creative with him in the playoffs against how am
I going to throw out there? I can't even throw
out the Sixers because they're not gonna make it.
Speaker 1 (29:59):
If they're you, I'll play the next in the second round.
Speaker 3 (30:01):
Yeah, god, yeah. The Magic scare me because they have size,
Like I don't even have a good team. But if
they if they are up to nothing or whatever, and
you gotta rest in me game in the playoffs, I'm
fine with that. To get him for Cleveland, okse.
Speaker 2 (30:13):
Julian thirty minutes As always, man can't thank you enough,
Jim Pat. Of course, you can find Julian on socials

Congratulations by the New England Patriots signing Milton Williams to
the highest average salary player contract in Patriots history. Yeah,
that's not gonna turn out that for you guys. Let's
call it overpay. Wow, he was Don Brady.
Speaker 3 (30:46):
Maybe they should have paid him in twenty nineteen.
Speaker 4 (30:49):
God or.
Speaker 2 (30:52):
Milton was good. He was really good. All right, we'll
see how that one plays out. But obviously football right
around the Quarnerman can't wait, Hey, man, good luck on
all those plays. Of course, we'll touch base next week,
getting everybody ready for the madness. Yoh, we definitely got
to do it. If we could before Thursday, if you

Speaker 2 (31:30):

send it boom of the game, and then next thing
you know.
Speaker 1 (31:36):
Was recording the stream. That was Aaron. Yeah, but I'll
see if I can get it. On the other side,
what a great.
Speaker 2 (31:43):

Speaker 4 (31:59):
Yeah, I have a Villanova plus twelve hundred to win
the Big East Tournament.
Speaker 3 (32:04):
Wow.
Speaker 1 (32:04):
So I don't know even't decide if I'm gonna double
down yet again the night.
Speaker 4 (32:07):
I'm certainly rooting for Nova. I think they could make
a little run here. I think they could make a
little run. Look, they beat all the best teams. They
beat Saint John's Marquette. Yeah, you don't hear that too
much anymore, except you did last night.
Speaker 3 (32:21):
Nice win.
Speaker 1 (32:21):
The Seahold look dominant. All right, let's take a quick
