Speaker 1 (00:00):
If you can wager on it, We're talking about it.
It's The Gambler, the Fox Sports Radio, The Gambler. Fox
Sports Radio in Philly is the Gambler, The Gambler, Philly's
home for all things sports gambling. O'clock Daly Tiger, Rona

(00:22):
sam OS's gonna join me in a little bit. Of course,
we'll keep the Super Bowl conversation rolling all week long
right here on The Gambler Specialty shows. This week we're
rolling out the red carpet for our coverage, shining the
light on all the personalities, the talent that we have
on this roster. Oh, I can't wait. Starts tonight once

(00:46):
again six o'clock. We'll be live from Chickens Beetz and
Marlton set Joiner on the on the program with Jerald Colton.
Of course Jarry Evans too as well. Can't forget big job,
big weekend for him down there in New Orleans, host
of the party and maybe even get a phone call
that he's heading to the Hall of Fame. We are
pulling for a big job as far as that is concerned.

(01:06):
A great listen coming your way at six o'clock. Chicks
of Pete's in Marlton seven o'clock, finish the story fifty nine.
Oh yeah, Sam Austrey on the mic, He'll take you
till nine o'clock and then socials only Monday through Friday.
This week I'll be doing a live Eagles chat video.
All that and more Eagles at Night, Eagles at Night, USA.

(01:31):
That was USA Up at Night man. There's a little
throwback there Up at Night. If you got it, you
got it. If you did it, it's over your head. Anyways.
That's coming your way at nine o'clock tonight, punching the
clock and then some my man Tim Murray this weekend
on Visan. When he introduced me, it's like Sean's always
on socials, so just give him a follow and he's

(01:53):
constantly live. So I thought that was it. That was
a thumbs up. That's a good thing. We stay aggressive
over here. We try and on your timeline, and especially
this week with the Gambler Gang, as I said, sample
joining a little bit if we could. We got to
mix in some of the dumb things that continue to
happen around the sports world. And this is unfortunate because
I want to be upfront with the world of sports

(02:17):
gambling and what we specialize in since the station's existence
a twenty nineteen. It's in our name, the Gambler. It's
what we do, and we do it very well. We
do it better than most and we definitely are the
number one as far as station slash outlet to do
this in Philadelphia bar none. Now, with that being said,

(02:40):
I am not the biggest, like Gung Ho. Everything is
fine when it comes to the world of sports gambling.
And you know, like I have a great partnership over
the years with DraftKings and those guys and girls have
been in my in my corner from the beginning. I
got great friendships slash partnerships with everyone over there and

(03:01):
will continue to do so. But even they would look
you and yaye and say it's not perfect, like there
are things out there that need to change. And and
number one would be some of the the issues with
the with the youth. You know, it's never a good
thing to hear about high school kids and people that
are growing up. Like, you know, I didn't wager actually

(03:22):
place a bet. Now, I had some dumb bets when
I was in high school. I remember betting on McGuire
and Sosa. So that was my eighth that was my
eleventh grade year, so it was in eleventh grade when
they went off and I remember making a wager there
that I lost because I thought Sammy Sisa was gonna
win that year, but he did not. So you know,

(03:44):
everyone's going to place a bet here and there. But
it's a different day and age. When you can, somehow
or another, whether it's through your older brother or through
your parents that are allowing this or whatever it may be,
to create you an account, that's that's tough. And I
think that there's there's got to be some change there.

(04:04):
I don't know how, and that's a whole different can
of worms that we're not gonna bother to address at
this point in time. But it's the reality, right, And
there are things that are done differently in Europe. You know,
when you're watching games, you're not getting these sportsbook advertisements.
I think it's illegal here. It's different and maybe that
needs to change, right. Also the fact that putting the

(04:25):
sports book to the side, the fact that you can
go to your phone and literally have a casino on
your phone, like that's you know, like I'd look you
straight in the eye and say that's tough for somebody
that that has an issue, right, Like, I don't think anything.
We're stating the obvious there, long winded, but it's not perfect.

(04:46):
And we continue to see whether it's a professional athlete
or anybody translator wink wink, allegedly translator that is making
the wagers. You know, we continue to see these stories
pop up, and there's two ways to look at it, like,
oh my goodness, this is a huge issue. We got

(05:08):
professional athletes, people are gambling. This is you know, we
can't take these games series ten dyings like you know,
you can go down that path or you can go
down the path and say yeah, but the alarms are
going off, red flags are being raised, and these people
are being caught right, Like, there's got to be a
middle ground, and that's where I'm at, Like the things

(05:31):
that are put in place are actually working. You could
come back and be that we know, of sure, we
can do that dance all day long. But the latest
one was Terry Rosier and we still don't know what's
going on there. Apparently he was cleared of charges from
the NBA if I'm not mistaken, but as far as legally,
he hasn't been cleared, so maybe something could be happening there.

(05:56):
TBD will find out. It's a shame that that gentleman
would even go down that path. Making over one hundred
million dollars playing for the Miami Heat. The new contract
that he was able to get, whether that was with
the Hornets and then carried over to the Heap, but
still four years twenty five million per It's like, come on, man,
he made over one hundred and thirty eight million dollars
and he's wasting his time talking to people about throwing

(06:18):
games and taking unders on props. Well, we got a
new one here over to the world of Major League Baseball,
and it's an umpire and it reads his followed from
John Hayman. Umpire Pat Hoberg, considered Major League Baseball's best

(06:39):
by many, was fired today for sharing a betting account
with a friend who bet on baseball. Major League Baseball
said there's no evidence he bet on baseball or affected
games in parentheses, his umpiring was excellent, but MLB found
he impeded the inquiry by deleting messages. Now, the thing

(07:05):
I would say, and this is what I said about
scary Terry and anybody that continues to go down this
path to think that like it's going to lead you
to money, or it's going to lead you to getting
in with people that are connected. Like, I don't know

(07:26):
why these professional athletes would risk being suspended for life.
An umpire would risk being losing your job. You know
how hard it is to make it to Major League
Baseball as an umpire. How long it takes. Now Pat
Holberg looks young here, so maybe he didn't have to.
I do know that they will open up in spring training.

(07:48):
Like for the top two umpires that grade the highest,
I think they do get elevated a little quicker. But
other than that, man, you're slumming it up and single
A and D making what forty five thousand dollars a year,
maybe fifty triple A. It takes you forever to get there,

(08:11):
and then you think you're making good money. You don't
make good money in triple A as A as an umpire.
You make good money when you get to the bigs.
And for this dude to go out there and ruin

(08:31):
everything he's worked so hard on for, what what does
it matter with these people? Now we'll learn more about
what took place. And I can't sit here and say
anything other than what the article is telling me in
front of me, and that's it. But obviously it's fishy

(08:53):
to the point that he's deleting messages. And oh, by
the way, sharing an account with a friend who's betting
on base Why are you sharing an account as a
grown man? What is that? Yeah, Pat Hoberg, that is
not good. Let's look him up real quick. I want
to see how old he is, because he looks young.

(09:15):
Of course. Now he's thirty eight. That's impressive. You don't
get to Major League Baseball by thirty eight. It's from
Des Moines, so he's not from here, so that's good.
Let's pull up his Wikipedia here as I'm sure it's updated.
Oh yeah, updated, all right, there quick. On February third,

(09:38):
M Wilb fired Hoburg for and that's the investigation into
violation of the league's gambling rules. Hoburg made his major
league debut in twenty fourteen and was one of four
umpires promoted to the full time staff in twenty seventeen
upon the retirements for the twenty eighteen regular season. He

(10:00):
was found to be a top ten performing home played umpire.
He worked the World Series in twenty twenty two. I'm
trying to find like how long it took him to
get to where he was, Eh, whatever. Well, again, the
big picture for me is you're going to get caught.

(10:23):
Whether you're a player, an umpire, a translator, whatever you are,
you're going to get caught. And it's just not worth it.
The juice isn't worth the squeeze, as they say, because
what books are taking the the action. And that was
the crazy thing about Rosier is we never heard about

(10:44):
this stuff, but these Rosier props were getting flagged. I
think he some what was it thirty three times? There
was a prop that was put up that was somewhat suspicious.
I believe it was an eleven times actually caught the
red flag. I think that was the article I read

(11:05):
last week about Scary Terry, which I was just shocked
to read them like, he's not dealing with anything a
little bit further than that at this point in time,
but still moral of the story is you're going to
get caught, and it's just not worth it. It's just
not worth it. With these sports books putting limits on everybody,
what are you going to get one thousand dollars? Maybe

(11:28):
you're not able to put five thousand dollars on an
under on a prop, on a three point prop. You're
just not You're not. And again, like I said, it
will come back to the red flags. Those whistles are
going off. Pat Hoberg thirty eight years old, forever tarnished
his image man and supposedly was a damn good umpire.

(11:48):
I'm bad at knowing umpires and referees names like I
know like a few of them. But I wouldn't have
pulled Pat Hoberg out of anything. If you were like, yo,
Pat Hobert, does that name straight? Ring a bellfy? I'll
be like, did I got to school with them? No clue?
All right? Daily Ticket rolling on. As I said, sam
Ostri's gonna join us, coming up here at five point thirty.

(12:09):
We'll talk a little bit NBA with him. But everything
back over to the Philadelphia Eagles and the Kansas City
Chiefs once again. Super Bowl fifty nine going down on Sunday. Storylines.
Continuing to talk about storylines here on a Monday, we
asked Kyle Fisher, what's the big storyline from the Kansas
City Chiefs perspective? Of course, at the top of the list, Yeah,

(12:30):
number one, it's about creating history, winning their third straight. However,
I do have some other in front of me, other
ones in front of me that I think are real storylines,
and on top of that, some interesting trends that might
sway you in one direction. I'll just put a tea
that way. Once again, sam Ostre's gonting join us. On
the other side, it's the daily Ticket, don't go work, spreads,

(12:51):
totals and all the prop that's in between. It's the gambler.
