#009- The Means of Discipleship
In this episode, Becky and Father Dave discuss focusing on the means of Christian formation and discipleship efforts in the Church, rather than the ends. If the end of formation is the total transformation of our souls into Christlikeness, what are the means? It can be overwhelming to consider this, but as Deep Practice teaches us, we can break things down into small and more manageable chunks, asking ourselves, what is the next small conversation we can engage in with someone with great love? Another aspect of focusing on the means is allowing ourselves to be stretched. In “The Little Book of Talent” Daniel Coyle calls this concept “reachfulness,” and it is one of the commonalities shared by successful athletes, musicians, and other learners. When we focus on doing small things with great love, and let ourselves be stretched, God himself can help us attain the greatness for which we were created.
