Menzees, the overall winners andtalk with them a little bit and
see how the race went.
We might even have a specialguest today too, so and she's
blonde, so we'll see if howshe's doing as well.

(03:33):
So, yeah, so let's get Bryceand Orin on real quick here and
we'll talk with the boys and seehow they how their race went.
And they were hauling the mailtoo, so it was pretty cool to
see.
All right, orin, I'm acceptingyou now.
So there we go, buddy.

(03:53):
Orin Anderson.
What's up, dude?
How's it going?
Buddy, good to see you again.
Yeah, you too, dude.
It was kind of crazy down thereat the well at the finish line.
It was down there at thestarting line, tech, all that
stuff.
You guys were busy, dude, justwinners all day.

Speaker 4 (04:08):
Oh man, you know the people that you know race had
obviously know how chaotic it is, but there's like a million
things going.
You got a million things goingthrough your head Like just
getting a hello out.
You know is hard sometimes, soit's always good to see you down
there at the start and finishand catch up for a little bit.
Wish we had more time, but yeah, totally.

Speaker 2 (04:26):
So there was a couple of things that I wanted to ask
too, because we talk about, like, the pace of the trophy trucks
now a lot Like we've beentalking about it.
Dude, we probably over talkedit for you guys because you guys
are used to it, but to me itseemed like I don't want to say
that it's starting to even out,but it seems like maybe the way
to put it is you guys yourselves, you and Bryce are getting more

(04:48):
consistent at going at that toplevel speed and you're getting
more used to it.
Is that kind of true, or like, how does it feel in the truck?

Speaker 4 (04:57):
I mean it, it feels fast.
I mean it feels like we'regoing at a really quick all day,
so like it used to be whereyou'd push a little bit and then
felt like you could back downand kind of run a consistent
pace.
But there was, you know, a fewreally fast trucks out there for
most of the day that arerunning that same like push
almost qualifying pace the wholetime.

(05:17):
I mean we were all within what?
45 seconds physically apart atthe end Crazy.

Speaker 2 (05:22):
Yeah, dude, totally it was pretty wild.
Bryce Menzies, what's up, dude, how are you?

Speaker 5 (05:26):
What's happening, guys?
Sorry, kids were running alittle wild side.
It took me a second to get onhere.

Speaker 2 (05:32):
Hashtag DadLife.

Speaker 5 (05:34):
Yes, yes, it's taken over.

Speaker 2 (05:36):
How has it been, since you guys both have a
newies?

Speaker 5 (05:40):
Oh man, it's unreal.
In the now, to have a or be adad is something special.
I always tell people until youhave a kid you really don't know
what it's like.
So it's pretty cool to relateand have some stuff like that.

Speaker 2 (05:54):
Have your guys kids yet have a chance to meet yet,
or no, not yet.
Dude, that's probably going tobe pretty wild right.

Speaker 4 (06:02):
We were hoping to at the 400, but that didn't work
out.
But yeah, I can't wait, man, wealready FaceTime each other
back and forth and I let at the400,.
I was showing his daughterCarson pictures of my little
girl Brantley, and she waspretty psyched about some of her
toys.
So hopefully I can.
That's perfect.

Speaker 2 (06:19):
Oh my gosh, she's got better toys with me and then
dad has to go out and getdifferent toys.
You guys got to be careful whatyou show them.

Speaker 4 (06:26):
That's different toys .
All right, I'm a better gamethat gets out of hand.

Speaker 2 (06:30):
Yeah, dude, totally All right.
So let's talk about the Baja400 a little bit.
Guys, we were just talkingabout, like we've mentioned Pace
so many times, like it's thepace of the trophy truck class
questions kind of getting out ofhand.
But I was talking to Orin alittle bit and it seems like you
guys are getting more used togoing that pace and Orin was
like man, it's hard becauseeverybody else is kind of
getting used to that pace.

(06:50):
And I noticed there was alsoanother blue truck out there
with some Red Bull logos withthe number 31 on it and it was
probably tough keeping himbehind you at Bay going that
pace too.

Speaker 5 (07:01):
Yeah, I knew, with him qualifying a little bit far
back, that it seems likenowadays it's Luke, me and if we
don't really have a problem,it's hard to track us down.
And then I know Andy being inthe mix, I knew it was going to
be us three fighting for the win.
So it was all day long Kind of.
The pace is honestly getting sofast where it seemed like a

(07:26):
couple years ago you could push, let it calm down for a little
bit, regroup, and now it's likeyou're pretty much kill mode
almost the whole time.
So unreal the pace we'rerunning, how these guys can
maintain keeping the truck oncourse, and that's why it seems
like you have to have a guy inthe right seat that you trust on

(07:47):
and you could communicate withand do your homework, because
you miss one call and you'regoing to be either hurt or
you're going to be totally in atruck.

Speaker 2 (07:56):
So yeah, it's pretty wild, right.
Obviously don't want that badjuju after the race either.
So, like, and with that, though, like I kind of feel like the
track was getting broken up alot.
I mean, I saw a bunch of stuffon social media, but didn't it
feel like some of the big rocksand stuff were just all of a
sudden popping up out of nowhere?

Speaker 4 (08:17):
That's the hardest game is playing Chase,
especially on.
Like you know, we're prerunning daily down there, so
we're coming, you know,confident, into a section.
It's like, all right, remember, there's a rock on the right
around this corner and you couldcome around and it's dead
center now, or it's in the leftright, like it changed daily,
where all the big rocks were.

Speaker 2 (08:33):
It's kind of crazy.
Does that mean that you have to?
Just, I don't know.
I feel like Bryce's eyes arejust not blinking, like are you
just wide open the whole time, just concentrating, just focus,
focus, focus.
Yeah, it seems like.

Speaker 5 (08:44):
Lately the game has changed where people were pre
running in their pre runners andnow it's people are pre running
in their second trucks, racetrucks.
So the course is developing sofast where if you miss a day of
pre running you're going to bein the race and all of a sudden
that rock that was on the rightis now in the left right, or
that ditch that was a checkupone is now a checkup three.

(09:07):
So it's just insane that thelevel of commitment that
everybody's put into the sport, what we got to go do to go win
these races is is on a differentlevel and it's cool to see.
But it also is tearing up thedesert so much that me and Orton
, about halfway through, we aregoing dang man.
We both have headaches fromjust jarring and hit, ramming

(09:29):
into stuff.
But it's really cool to seewhere our sports going, the
level the competition has gottento.

Speaker 2 (09:35):
Yeah, does that mean it changes?
Well, I don't know how to evenput this statement, but, like,
focusing is really hard, nomatter what happens, right, like
you could, it's hard to focusat your computer desk, right,
and then add in going 130 milesan hour or whatever it is with
rocks and all of this otherstuff, like.
To me that seems like the levelof focus is also really has to

(09:56):
improve when you're having those.
Well, I mean, you're full kill, right, like Orton.
How is it managing all that inthe passenger seat?
Because you got to manageyourself and Bryce.

Speaker 4 (10:06):
Well, I mean, I wouldn't say I'm managing like
we do.
I think we do a really good jobof just getting a lot of
information when we're prerunning.
So I'm just, I'm just givehopefully just giving him
reminders.
Hi Carson, hey Carson, oh yeah.

Speaker 2 (10:20):
Go back up there, sup , the superstar right there.
Hey, you guys want to just letCarson talk?
We'll talk about racing later.

Speaker 4 (10:31):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (10:34):
But yeah, so you're right, like I guess it is.
It isn't because you're, yougot all that homework done,
right.

Speaker 4 (10:39):
Yeah, so I don't need to help Bryce with pace or how
to drive right.
He knows how to do that justfine without me.
But if I can just give himinformation, you know, hopefully
just a little reminder so hecan keep his pace up, that's all
I'm trying to do from my sideis just take the surprise out of
it.
And one thing that, like youknow, as I've been in the right

(11:00):
seat with a bunch of differentpeople like and not to toot his
horn, but Bryce can processstuff like on the fly way faster
than I can and faster than likeevery guy I've raced with
before.
So it's like we'll bepre-runner section at 95 miles
an hour and he'll switch lane toa lane I never even saw it
because we're going so fasterthere and it's like how did you

(11:20):
see this?
He's like, oh, I've seen thatthe last two days through here.
I just finally wanted to try it.
It's like I can't even my he's.
We're already committed 200feet into a new line before my
brain even processes we switch.
It's a next level of, you know,of vision and processing for
some of these trophy truck guysthat I couldn't keep up with.

(11:40):
So I'm no help there.
But if I can have a note whereI can tell him hey, in 500 feet,
you like this before.
That's my only goal.

Speaker 2 (11:47):
Yeah, and so that's exactly where I was going.
I'm glad you were talking aboutthat, like.
So that's kind of where I wasgoing to lead the question back
to you, bryce.
Well, we got a couple ofquestions that are comments and
stuff that came in too.
So Victor Tacoma actually saidBryce Menzee's drive with a
calmness like on a freeway, heis the best.
And Andy McMillan everyone elsedrives desperately under
pressure.
Well, we actually talk aboutthis sometimes on the dirt life

(12:09):
show, like like you just said,or in Bryce's a breed on his own
right.
The way that you can process andhold yourself together really
makes it like a race car driver, right, like.
So an example was is I Ithought I was a great race car
driver, right, I'm just drivinga slow UTV.
I drove in Lucas off roadseries.
You know I won races anddifferent things like that.

(12:29):
I'm like, oh cool, like I candrive pretty well.
And then I sat in the passengerseat driving around with Rob
McCacken at an event thatWarfighter made did, and I was
like dude I'm not even barely inthe novice class dude Like the
way that he sits there with justfull calm and he's barely
moving and his feet are barelymoving, and I can see what
you're talking about when youtalk about how Bryce works as

(12:52):
well, because I don't know, bryce, how does it feel in your
head when you're being able toprocess information that quickly
and you're able to just move soslowly?

Speaker 5 (13:01):
I would say it came one time I mean at the very
beginning.
It was challenging.
But after so many years, somany times, and I just feel like
I'm on the truck and thingsdon't really like upset me to
where I freak out and startdriving where my mind is, I just
am very calm and process thingsand have a have a goal of

(13:24):
getting the truck to the end andalso relying on the guy in the
right seat to give me the rightnotes, be a therapist at times
to calm me down.
It seems like we work reallywell, Just being smooth.
I think learning from a singlebuggy with limited power and
just knowing that if you scrubany speed or if you make big

(13:44):
movements you're not going to gowin those races in that class.
So that really helped me isfrom starting in a limited class
and then stepping up into a bigclass that I took all that.
I learned from that and put itinto effect as well.

Speaker 2 (13:57):
We got a comment from BJ that said Bryce.
What did he say?
Bryce couldn't back out of ourgarage without accidentally
hitting the house.

Speaker 6 (14:07):
At least everybody knows how to wipe.

Speaker 2 (14:09):
Yeah, Perfect.
We also said had somebodycommented saying that after show
celebration at the compound waspretty sick too.
Like the motivation and thehappiness was like all I could
see.
Like we couldn't see your facebut I could see a smile on your
face the way that you come intothe house.
That was pretty sick.

Speaker 5 (14:28):
Yeah, we, we won the 500 and that was the first time
my dad had our pilot put thehelicopter down in the compound
and then this time I knew thatit was going to be there and
last time I kind of just slidthe truck in and I came in hot.
This time I knew I didn't havefront drive as we lost front
wheel drive at the end.
So I came in and knew I coulddo a donut and I wanted to do

(14:52):
three donuts because that wasour third consecutive win the
ball 400.
And I've done so many donutsand shows and little stuff with
my pro too.
So I have a very good depthperception of where the truck is
.
And I saw my dad and he wasfreaking out, but I believe I
was still at least over a footand a half away from the

(15:13):
helicopter.
So we were clean, we were good.
They have the whole team thereand then have Andy there and my
family and my wife and mydaughter was something special.

Speaker 2 (15:22):
Yeah, dude, that's super cool.
Yeah, and the space and timething, like that goes back to
what we were talking about Orin, like he just knows right, like
that has to grow with experienceand stuff.
Hey guys, so we have a specialguest on, so Bella Bershard.
She has been helping with thedirt life.
How are you, bella?

Speaker 3 (15:40):
I'm great.
How are you?

Speaker 2 (15:41):
So we're doing awesome.
So, orin and Bryce, if you guysdon't know, bella now has her
own segment of the dirt lifeshow and she's talking to the
youth and stuff like that.
She does it once a month and soshe's kind of practicing and
getting all her things togetherand she wanted to jump on and
ask you guys a question.

Speaker 5 (15:59):
Awesome, Hi Bella.
Hi Hi Bella.
That's amazing that you'redoing this and it's so cool to
bring the youth and do it andhelp, help them come up, and
they need just as much show aswe do.

Speaker 3 (16:11):
Yep, because that's where we all started.
But first of all, congratulations to both of you
guys, because that's, that'scrazy.
I'm very proud, yeah.
So, throughout those 400 miles, what was the biggest obstacle,
you guys overcame.

Speaker 5 (16:27):
I would say for me was probably losing front drive
and knowing that Luke was onlyabout a minute behind me and
knowing that if I got a flattire or some little issue and
Luke got by that it would bevery hard to keep him within
those two minutes.
So, processing that in my mindand just trying to be smart and
not make any mistakes, the last200 miles was probably the

(16:49):
biggest obstacle I had toovercome in the race.

Speaker 3 (16:52):
Yeah, yeah, that's.
How do you even deal with thatstress Like just knowing that
someone's right behind youchasing on you.

Speaker 5 (17:00):
Probably just over years of usually I freaked out
and I've learned that justtrying to stay calm and then
also having a guy next to youthat you feel really confident
in Knowing the truck and what itcould do in a two wheel drive
that I've raced so many times, and just trying to be smart,
think big picture instead oftrying to win the race every
mile.
Look at the long term of tryingto get the truck to the finish

(17:23):
and I think just 16 years ofracing has helped me process all
that.

Speaker 3 (17:29):
Yeah, that's my full lifetime 16 years.

Speaker 2 (17:32):
Yeah, but Bella I mean, like Orrin, the calmness,
I think is what is the mainthing that Bella should be
looking for right Is trying tostay focused and calm in the
vehicle.

Speaker 4 (17:43):
Oh yeah, getting excited or getting upset, that
doesn't help anything out at all.
Right, you're just goingbackwards at that point and
that's something if you havesomebody that you trust sitting
next to you, like Bryce and Ikind of feed off each other, so
like there's times where I hopeI'm helping keep him calm, but
he helps keep me calm too, andwe just kind of get on the same
page Like, oh, no big deal, that's 45 seconds.

(18:03):
They got to make that up.
We're still going fast and youknow, can you talk to each other
off the ledge to where you justkeep making smart race
decisions and not doing anythingsilly that puts you on the
sideline.

Speaker 3 (18:14):
Yeah, just desert.
Mentality regulating emotions?
Oh yeah, let him out.

Speaker 4 (18:20):
Let him out at the end, not during the race.

Speaker 3 (18:22):
Yeah, I agree.

Speaker 2 (18:23):
That's pretty cool, bella.
So you're learning as you arehosting the show.
That's pretty sweet man.

Speaker 3 (18:28):
Yeah, I know, just taking it back.
There you go.

Speaker 5 (18:33):
It's funny hearing you say that I've been racing as
long as you've been old, because I felt the same way when
I was racing with RobMcCackeren and he was telling me
how long he's been racing and Ijust was in my first or second
year.
So it's been full circle, andnow I'm that older guy that's
saying the same things.

Speaker 3 (18:51):
Yeah, yeah, and I eventually hope to get there too
.
I know like all this stuff medoing, george, and like
interviewing people that's goingto get me places, but I want to
be that for somebody that'syounger and especially like
bringing all the youth, becausethat's where we all kind of
started.

Speaker 5 (19:08):
So that's so awesome of you.
I really appreciate you puttingin all the effort and the work,
because the youth is where itis at and we got to keep them
coming to keep this sport alive.

Speaker 3 (19:19):
Yeah, yeah, I agree.

Speaker 2 (19:20):
All right, Bella Lauren, what you got going on
and what's going on with yournext show.

Speaker 3 (19:27):
Um, so we got some people coming on.
Um, it's October 11th, so it'llbe every Wednesday, the first
Wednesday of every month, butwe're just interviewing a bunch
of like new people new faces, old faces kind of just talking
about where everybody startedand where everyone's you know
five year plan is and all thatstuff.

Speaker 2 (19:49):
It'll be cool.
Thanks, bella, we'll see youguys later.
Tell hi, tell everybody in yourfamily Hi.

Speaker 3 (19:54):
Hi guys, bye, bye, see you later.

Speaker 5 (19:57):
I said meet you.
Bye, bella.

Speaker 3 (19:59):
Bye.

Speaker 2 (20:01):
Yeah, thank you guys for answering all her questions.
Um, yeah, it's really cool tosee, like, uh, the youth and the
progress and stuff.
Like, do you get to feel thatsame um, I don't know vibe and
stuff when you're down there inBaja, cause last show that we
talked about, when, uh, you wonthe Baja 500, uh, we talked
about how, uh, everybody was soexcited at the finish line,

(20:21):
right, you got squirted with abeer and all this crazy cool
stuff.
Um, do you get to see the otherportion of it where you're
seeing, uh, people that look upto you, people that are wanting
to be a sponge and, you know, get uh information from you guys
as well, so they can befantastic professional racers.

Speaker 5 (20:37):
I would say, uh, yeah , of course.
Uh, I get a ton of stuff, whether it's, um, just Instagram
messages or people running upto me and talking to me, and and
I always try to put in the timeand work to talk to them, write
them back, just because I wasthat kid once.
I was a kid that came into thesport had no idea what I was
doing.
Me and my dad showed up to thefirst race with a truck and a

(20:57):
trailer and, uh, I never racedan off road car in my life.
So, um, I was one of those kidsasking those same questions,
and, and the people that helpedme and taught me, um is the way
that I want to be.
I want to make sure that I givethe same, or more, back to the
sport and to the youth because,um, I truly believe in that if,
uh, if, if we keep, um, you know, answering the questions,

(21:21):
making the right decisions forthese kids, that it is just
going to get better and betteras it goes.

Speaker 2 (21:24):
Yeah, totally.
And then, like with all thetechnologies coming out and you
know, live streaming and all ofthese different things that are
happening, I feel like they cansee it and then, once you say it
, they'll have a visualconnection to it.
So there's a lot that goes onbehind all that.
So I'm pumped for the future ofoff road, for sure.
Um, so let's talk about therace a little bit, because we
got about five minutes before weget Mark Burnett on.
Uh, he was the pro turbo UTVwinner.

(21:45):
Um Orrin, what was the some ofthe stuff that you had to uh
focus on the most?
I mean, obviously Bryce saidthat you guys lost front wheel
drive.
What were the things that youwere busy with during the race?

Speaker 4 (21:58):
So early on, you know it was just dealing with uh
like the course was super dry, everyone been pre running so
much there's a lot of dust.
So early on it was just makingsure that I got all the notes
out that we had.
You know, just like didn't missanything on my calls and focus
on that, because we were drivingblind for a lot of the time.
And then there was a funsection at about uh, before we

(22:19):
got into valley T, like comedown the the goat trail, we knew
we were close to a few guysphysically right in front of us
and we knew a lot of people hadsome pits set up before the Mike
Sky Ranch loop.
So it started.
You know it was fun, like going, well, hey, you know we got to,
we can play some pit strategyright here, normally in the
front you'd, you know, runningwith Bryce, like we just run our
pit strategy, so you hope wehave enough gap to get out in

(22:40):
front of the guys behind us.
But now it's like if we stophere and not over here, maybe we
can get somebody in the pit.
So it was, you know, managingthat, what we thought the
competitors next move was goingto be and then trying to base it
off what we could see themdoing on the, on the pavement
section, the speed zone ahead ofus, like that was fun, I
enjoyed that.
And then you know just regularrace stuff, trying to call out

(23:00):
notes and uh and make surethere's nothing that we didn't
something, anything that changedthe night before the race or
animals and stuff like that.
And then just being you knowsupportive of of Bryce when the
front, when the front diff didgo away, I mean it's like from
the pasture seat it feels likehe's trying to drive with
something dragging the frontbrakes.
So when it sets up for a cornerand lays into the throttle it

(23:22):
doesn't just drive around, itfeels like that the rear ends
trying to pass you the wholetime.
So you know me trying to besupportive, you know side chick
you, you got it.

Speaker 2 (23:33):
Probably did feel kind of crazy, like you almost
probably needed the supportright, bryce, to like twist your
brain and actually dealing withit.

Speaker 5 (23:41):
Yeah, 100%.
When we first, uh, I felt itgoing um a little bit earlier
and I just didn't want to put itin my head and didn't want to
think that.
And then, uh, we finally gotLuke after the crossover, where,
first on the road and literallyright when we jumped off the
pavement, I stood on the gas andthe rear came around and I'm
like, oh I, that was the firsttime I said it I was like I
think we lost from driving Orn's, like no dude, this is just

(24:03):
really slippery right here.
And I'm like, no, I felt thisbefore.
So, um, just knowing that andjust trying to play it smart,
and we've had that happen before.
So, uh, like you said, you gotto both work together and
balance it back and forth.
But, um, yeah, that was aninteresting one for sure.

Speaker 2 (24:21):
Dude.
Yeah, it's kind of crazy.
Hey, real quick.
So we have a couple ofquestions that came in, uh, the
first one was madfab.
Moversport says uh, how farfrom the finish did you guys
lose the front drive?

Speaker 5 (24:31):
Um, so we lost it right at the end of the
crossover road.
So I want to say that is, whatis that Orn?

Speaker 4 (24:37):
to 10, to 15.

Speaker 5 (24:38):
Yes, right in the middle to 30, I think, is when
you hit the pavement, so like to40, something like that.
When we jumped back on the dirtis where we noticed it went
away.

Speaker 2 (24:47):
Yeah, so it was about 60%.
So you had basically half therace that you had to drive there
.
They, that's actually prettyimpressive that you're talking
about that now, when you said,uh, you know you're trying to
manage having, uh, the guysbehind you, that was probably
pretty difficult, cause I usedto always have a hard time going
from 250 to 125 when we wereracing dirt bikes.
Right, that's the same type ofthing, right, cause you're used

(25:09):
to having all of this action anddriving style.
Then all your muscle memorygoes away and you have to
completely drive different.
The good thing that you'relucky to do in two wheel drive
stuff and short course stuff, cause you can adjust on the fly.

Speaker 5 (25:20):
Yeah, it was huge Just just knowing that and, um,
I think that really helped out.
A ton is just.
I had to upshift a ton and putit in third and fourth year
where I would be in first yearin corners and just let the
motor do the work and not burnthe tires off cause we were
going to run tires long.
So, um, a ton of differentstuff that over the years I've
just learned how to, how tohandle it, what to do, um not

(25:42):
try to slide the truck in, drivein hard off easy.
Um, a lot of little things thatI think really helped us out
with.
And then also just the pressureman, knowing that Luke was, I
want to say, at times he gotdown to like 40 seconds and an
Allen was only 40 seconds behindhim.
So, um, knowing they were therefor 180 miles was very tough.

Speaker 2 (26:01):
But we pulled it off, Dude.
Yeah, that's crazy.
Uh, just one Baja also asks uh,is Andy McMillan racing with
Bryce out in the Baja 1000?

Speaker 5 (26:11):
Yes, for sure.
Uh, we've been trying to dothat for the last three years.
I've been trying to do that for13 years.
So when the ball 1000.
So me and Andy are going toteam up again.
Um, and that's why we race twotrucks just for a starting spot,
because if you don't start nearthe front, it's going to be
very hard to win one of theseraces from a peninsula run.
So, um, Andy will be jumping inthe truck for sure.

Speaker 2 (26:32):
Uh, actually this is a good technical question and I
don't know if you'll be able toanswer this, orrin, but uh,
simon Trophy borough said whydid Toby have to pull out of the
race with a broken front diff, but Bryce could keep going?
I think it's a little bitdifferent situation, but can you
give any expertise on that?

Speaker 4 (26:48):
Yeah, different parts failed.
On the end he had somethingmore catastrophic, like the, you
know the actual like gearsinside fail, whereas we had
something a little bit smallerfail that just lost the
drivability, so it wasn't likefluid wasn't leaking out.
We've had that happen beforewhere we drained all the oil out
of a front diff.
That does park you no matterwhat, but uh, but yeah, we just

(27:10):
got lucky.
It was a minor.
You know what the issue was?
Minor versus his seem to be alittle more catastrophic.

Speaker 2 (27:15):
Yeah, it still amazes me that the trucks can actually
put up with what they do Like.
I mean, even though I know thatthey're growing and they're
getting better and better, butlike holy cow, the amount of
abuse that they take and theycan hold up is just mind blowing
.
Oh yeah.

Speaker 5 (27:29):
Uh, I'm so fast nowadays that, uh, I don't.
I don't know how these truckshold up, especially for a short
race where it's 400 miles.
I mean, we're going kill modethe whole way, where you know we
were going through sections andorange like man.
We're running qualifying paceright now, so it's crazy that
these trucks even handle that.

Speaker 2 (27:45):
Do you guys remember, like uh, or do you even know
what the top speed you guys gotup to in the race was, or any of
the uh?
I don't know, cause it justseems so fast.

Speaker 4 (27:54):
Yeah, like one one thirties was top speed, but I'd
say like our overall pace isjust so fast, like we're
boogieing through the mics loop, like you know, just Bryce's,
bryce's work in the wheel overthere.
I mean, that's sawing throughall the the tight technical
stuff I think is where we reallypicked up a lot of time,
because everyone's trying topush hard and make up time
through those sections and likejust overall, it just seemed

(28:16):
like everywhere like we just hadto, like I had to be on all day
.
It wasn't like notes wererolling down slowly, it was like
go next note, next note, go bam, next thing, next thing is just
crazy.

Speaker 2 (28:25):
We're both your guys brain or in your answer first,
since you just talked about it,we're both your guys brains.
Pretty fried at the end.

Speaker 4 (28:32):
I like through Europe and Europe and is the most
stressful section of the race.
So, like I, that's like highstress.
You finish all this fun coaststuff, then you hit your pan and
then like just getting throughthat.
After getting through that withno issues, like oh my God, this
like pretty much feels likeyou're finished with the race.
But it's like just survive thatpart.
But yeah, like it takes so muchfocus for eight hours to keep

(28:54):
up with the pace Bryce isdriving.
He's nuts.

Speaker 2 (28:57):
Was your brain fried at the end, bryce, or were you
doing okay?

Speaker 5 (29:00):
No, it was.
It was pretty fried.
I mean, I tried to tried todrink and eat as much as I could
, but then I got a.
I got a massive headache andthat was really bugging me.
But, like Orrin said, the pacethat we're running, like if you
take your mind off the ball forone second, you're crashing,
you're hurting each other.
So you got to be focused 110%the whole time.

(29:20):
Nowadays.

Speaker 2 (29:21):
Yeah, dude, totally All right.
So Travis coin also had a greatcomment that he said 169 miles
per hour all day, dude, allright boys.
Well, thank you very much.
Throw a shout out to the someof the people that helped you.
Obviously, I know you guys wantto shout out to your family as
well.

Speaker 5 (29:37):
Yeah, I mean obviously my team.
They prepped two trucks.
This is the first time that weran two trucks and we had both
of them finished, first andthird.
So my team, all my guys at theshop, obviously Orrin for
putting in all the work.
We were down there for over aweek pre running, every single
day, waking up early, getting inlate.
Our bodies were sore.
And then obviously all mypartners that helped me out.

(29:58):
Red Bull has been with me for13 years.
Amsoil, toyota tires has hugelystepped up their game to get
only one flat on the run.
And then Andy had zero flats, fox shocks just everybody helps
me out.
I couldn't do without them.
And obviously my family forcoming down.
That's what keeps themmotivated to get to the finish.
Seeing my daughter cheer me onis something very special.

Speaker 2 (30:19):
Dude, that's the best right.
All right, orrin, you hit the,hit the, take the floor.

Speaker 4 (30:24):
Same same deal.
I mean the effort that theMenzies Motorsport team, all the
shop guys, have put in thisyear.
I mean zero major issues withany truck at all.
I mean pre runners have beenflawless, race trucks have
always been flawless.
And to do that too this timelike people don't understand how
much work that is to make anall wheel drive truck, which is

(30:45):
already insanely complicated, you know issue free for hundreds
upon hundreds of miles everytime we take them out driving at
qualifying pace.
So really, I mean they're myhats off to those guys.
They're they're kicking buttand probably the best crew, I
think, out there and it's anhonor to be a part of that.
And then, yeah, it's great to.
You know I didn't have myfamily down there with me this
time.
You know I always love havingmy wife carry down there, but

(31:08):
her father, jim, passed away acouple of weeks before this one.
So to do this race and reallyto do it as a tribute and and to
honor him and go out and get tohave awesome results and kick
butt and bring home a win forhim.
It was a very meaningful for meand everyone back here.

Speaker 2 (31:23):
Yeah, our condolences and everything like that, but
we really appreciate you guysbeing such a humble and awesome
human being, so we'll let youguys get back to the family and
thank you guys very much.

Speaker 5 (31:33):
Thanks for that.

Speaker 2 (31:34):
Congratulations, boys .
All right, so we're going toget Mark Burnett of MB
Motorsports on.
He was the pro UTV winner.
Congratulations to Bryce andOren for doing such a fantastic
job on course as well as offcourse and just being good human
beings in general.
It's always good to see we lovethe off road community so much.

(31:54):
So let's, let's try and see ifwe can get Mark Burnett.
Hey, mark Burnett what's up,dude?

Speaker 6 (31:58):
How are you?

Speaker 2 (32:00):
doing Awesome bro.
How are you?

Speaker 6 (32:02):
Good driving in traffic down here in San Diego,
california, right now.

Speaker 2 (32:05):
Yeah, that's the way it goes, dude.
When you're a winner, though, the traffic doesn't stop for you
.
I don't know about that, butokay dude, it was pretty cool to
see you on the top step of thepodium, though I didn't get to
talk to you much.
I wanted to have tacos with youand everything.
But, dude, you put in a lot ofwork to get to that point.
You've been racing for a longtime and it probably felt really
good.

Speaker 6 (32:25):
That felt awesome.
You know, my team you just youknow really worked hard.
We had, you know, some issuesin the race but then overall we
we brought home the win.
We knew our game plan, the carscoming together.
The new car we have is finallycoming together.
We have some important parts onthe car now that are just
amazing, made the world adifference for my axles and

(32:47):
stuff like that.
So to go to Vegas Tarino weknew when we went to Vegas
Tarino we had no issues.
I gave the car to my partnerand we knew I was all smiles,
you know, from there I knew itwas my first time not replacing
any belts, no axle problems.
I knew when I was coming downto the Baja 400 that it would

(33:08):
come out well at the end of theday.

Speaker 2 (33:11):
It's just such a I mean, we were just talking about
it with Orin and Bryce, likeit's it's the amount of effort
that goes into just getting avehicle across the finish line
is pretty phenomenal, right, andyou have a good team with you
and you're going to be able tosupport your own things.
But it everybody has theirissues and you've had a couple
this year and now you comeacross the finish line first.

(33:32):
That means like I don't know.
It's got to feel like I don'tknow a victory in itself just
across the finish line, letalone win.

Speaker 6 (33:41):
It was.
It was like emotional thing.
You know we could lead the race, you know a lot, lot just last
year and this year, but we couldnever finish, you know, and be
on the top of the box or orhaving it, not have an issue.
So to have that, you know, tomake it to the finish line.
We did have an issue at 190.
We had an issue with thetransmission and we were just

(34:03):
praying that we make it to thefinish.
So we're really excited about, you know, making it there and
the results.
You know I mean I was full ofemotions, you know I, you know,
with things that's happened inmy life last three years, it's
just been really rough and andwe knew we could do it and I
know I have the team that can doit and you know this thing is

(34:25):
dedicated to those guys.
The team, you know, has been, you know, with me so long and
they deserve this more than me.
I mean they're there all thetime, you know, not seeing us
win or have a problem with thecar and it's frustrating.
They get bummed out and to getthis win, I think all those guys
are just it, just big blackcloud just went by us and we're

(34:48):
really happy and we learned alot.
So I think at the thousandwe're ready.
I think that there's a coupleof other things we got to do to
the car, but we know we have thespeed.
We just we didn't have all theeverything in line to make it
work, so right now you knowthat's what we're doing.
We're looking forward to thethousand and just trying to

(35:09):
focus on on the win.
I've never won on a UTV.
I've never won the ball 1000.
I've won it on a bike and atruck, but I've never done it in
a UTV.
So it's something that hauntedme for a while and I would love
to go down there and win.
It's going to be a lot ofmileage.

(35:29):
It's going to be.
I just saw the course, wemarked the course and we do
stuff with score and the course.
You know it's going to be 1300and eight miles.

Speaker 2 (35:39):
Holy crap Really.

Speaker 6 (35:40):
Yes, yeah, a lot of people don't know that Bryce is
probably going what yeah?
It's bottom mileage and I wasgoing to ask him you know what
happens at the diff?
The front diff blows on thatthing at.
You know that many miles Do youhave to replace it?
Do you just keep driving on it,or what?
I was wondering the same thing.
Those things are worth over amillion dollars, you know.

(36:01):
So I was that's a question ofthe day, what happens there.

Speaker 2 (36:04):
So yeah, I got you.
Well, that brings in, like, ifit's 1300 miles, that brings in
a whole another.
I want to talk about the 400real quick too, but the like a
whole.
Another logistical thingbecause parts expire, especially
in desert racing right.
So whether it's a radius rod ora front differential and a can
am or a trophy truck, like, there's a logistical thing

(36:25):
that's going to probably happenand change with the Baja 1000
because it's such a long race.

Speaker 6 (36:30):
Oh, yes, it is.
I think there's going to bepitting strategies.
You know we're going throughSan Felipe.
You know the people that knowSan Felipe.
You know the people out thereknow it are going to be ahead of
the people that don't know it.
There's a lot of lines thereand a lot of stuff that you know
that's at the end of the race.
I mean, you're looking at 250miles from the finish, pretty

(36:52):
much from there.
So it's going to be a challengeto see.
You know things are going tochange.
If somebody's leading the racethey can change in that it's
definitely going to be changingthere for sure.

Speaker 2 (37:04):
Yeah, even if you're at 1200 miles and you're smoked,
you could still have theopportunity to lose that bad boy
.
Todd Zacon keeps commenting.
In a couple times he said youneed to have some strong
trannies.

Speaker 6 (37:17):
Yeah, I'm going to keep that right now.

Speaker 2 (37:21):
Oh, that's a funny one, though Everybody keeps
laughing in the comments.
I know you're paying attentionto traffic, but so during the
400, bella Bershard just came onand she asked the question to
the boys Bryce and Oren what wasthe most difficult portion of
the race?
Can you answer that samequestion?

Speaker 6 (37:39):
I'm going to tell you that's really easy.
For me and I've done this many, many times.
It was European.
European was the most stressfulthing I could think of.
It was really bad.
The terrain was really.
It really was up and bad anddefinitely something that was
the worst I've seen in a longtime.
You know, I marked the course, like I said, and I've seen

(38:02):
everything in that by far is theworst I've ever seen it.
The four wheel drive trucks andall these trucks.
They have beat that stuff up sobad.
So, many people are running nowand people out there know I mean
, look at Herbs, where it wassilt over there.
He went off the side, he gottowed out, rolled the truck, I
mean it was.

(38:22):
It was dramatic, it was bad andwe knew that going into this
race that it would be bad thereand we were just trying to, you
know, get through that section.
And it was brutal and we madeit through it.
I was very, I was very happythat we made it through it and

(38:42):
that was definitely the section.
European was the hardest, ofthe course, Everything else, I
think for me it was easy.

Speaker 2 (38:49):
It wasn't hard Totally, and so driving a UTV.
We have tons of people thatlisten to the show and UTV.
Some like are just enthusiaststoo.
They're not racers.
It's hard for me to evenexplain because I pre run all
kinds of miles down there.
But can you give the bestdescription to, let's just say,
me I'm going into a UTVdealership and I'm going to buy

(39:10):
my first UTV and I say I want togo down to Baja and I say
what's the difficult portion ofthe race?
And you say you're a pan.
Can you describe to me thegnarliness and how it feels
driving a UTV down there to abeginner like somebody like me?

Speaker 6 (39:25):
Yeah, I mean in that section, if you had to go
through it after we went throughit or after pre running.
I mean the track changed somuch from the day and I'm
talking Friday to Saturday ofthe race.
I mean it's you know, you justgotta watch yourself, take your

(39:48):
time through the rain, ruts andand be okay, going through
everything and and that's thebiggest thing and keeping a
spare tire with you and plugsand just being prepared when
you're in Baja.
You gotta prepare foreverything.
You never know what you'regonna see down there or happen.
I'm sure you can relate to that.
I'm sure you had a tire orsomething go bad.

Speaker 2 (40:10):
Yep.

Speaker 6 (40:11):
And especially if you're by yourself, you know you
want to bring food, water, andI mean even matches.
I mean we've been out therebefore.
We had to spend the night inthe middle of nowhere, you know.
So when you're buying a car, just take your time and, and you
know, don't think you're, youknow, price men's are going
through the section.
You know, I mean I think that's, you know, taking your time

(40:32):
through there.
I mean it's just like the Trovetrucks tell over her.
I mean you saw it, you helpthem out, they're probably going
to.
They went on the edge and itjust dropped into that little
section right there and it andit happens, it happens to the
best of us and they wereprobably pushing and that
section.
You kind of kind of take yourtime through there to just get,
just get navigate through thatsilk bed and just go from there.

Speaker 2 (40:55):
So it's kind of crazy to think, right, what's up,
stoke to shred when you, whenyou like, because they didn't do
anything wrong, right, likethey were just doing their thing
, and like and that happens toall kinds of racers right, like,
let's just say, I don't know,60 out of 100 racers, you're
just doing your thing, and thenBaja wins at some point, right.
So it's kind of crazy, and Ilike the fact that you're

(41:16):
telling everybody to I don'tknow how to say it like mind the
gap right, like be careful, tread lightly, like be
methodical at what you're doing.
How do you do that as a racecar driver, though?
Because you have to have thatsame mindset, but you have to
have it 200 feet, 300 feet aheadof you, and your navigator has
to have it a mile ahead.

Speaker 6 (41:38):
Well, that's for sure .
You know and have greatnavigators.
You know the two guys are withme, they know what they expect
of me and I expect of them.
They tell me what's coming upbefore I even know sometimes and
you just got to navigate.
When you know that section isbad, you just got to let off a
little bit and get through it.
We were thinking for us becausewe're on UTVs that there would

(42:00):
be trucks there.
The only truck I did see wasterrible herbs and it was on the
side and it was before he gottowed out.
He was already on the edge andhe was stuck there and he just
got.
All it took was his tire justslid over that little edge and
he got stuck.
It was an easy thing to do.
It wasn't his fault and ithappens, and because the rut

(42:24):
will sometimes get you to slideoff, and move off the side and
then you're screwed.
Even in the full drive vehiclethat we're in UTV it goes
everywhere, but sometimesthere's holes and things that
push you off to that edge, youknow.

Speaker 2 (42:37):
Yeah, dude, it's kind of crazy, right, like just to
think about that.
Well, actually, what was thegnarliest portion of the race?
Like I don't know mentally, wasit still European?

Speaker 6 (42:48):
Yeah, I mean mentally .

Speaker 2 (42:50):
Well, because the mental game like the mental game
has always been hard for me,like because you have to stay
focused for so long, like Iasked the boys, or an embrace,
like where their brain smoked atthe end.
You were in the car for longerthan they were, obviously
because the pace is slower and asmaller vehicle.
But I mean, like I still don'tknow how you guys do it.
How do you stay focused forthat long?

Speaker 6 (43:13):
It's not that bad when you have an issue, that's
when things go bad.
I mean, at 1 90 we were aboutto call it quits, we stopped,
talked for like 10 minutes andwe were on the side of the
course.
Are we going to go down thishole?
And you know where we had to godown, about 200 or whatever it
was down this area.
We were worried that if we didbreak there we would have to get

(43:36):
towed out for one.
But there's only one littlesingle line, so they'd be
pushing us off the, off thecliff.
And you know, get out of theway.
They don't mess around, youknow.
I mean they don't.
You know the trophy trucks andstuff, they don't mess around in
the way of the things, in theway of the course.
So we were.

(43:57):
I was thinking, oh god, we'regoing to go down here, we're
going to have an issue, and Iwas just praying to get through
there.
So I was mentally drained itafter 190, thinking that I'm
going to lose this race, leadingthe race because of an issue.
And it made it.
So I'm just so happy that itmade it.
But that's not going for me.
But keep in focus.
If you don't have problems,it's not that bad, you know.

(44:20):
I mean I've been in it, I'veIronman the Baja 1000 numerous
times, to the point, and that isdefinitely draining.
That's a lot of miles andyou're in the car over 30
something hours, so it's reallyhard, especially when you're old
dude it's hard, you know.

Speaker 2 (44:37):
I could only imagine, like, what do you do to?
This is actually will help meand a lot of people that listen
to the show.
But what do you do to get overthat?
Like so you're at 190 andyou're like, oh, whatever, we're
going to call it, quits f this,my brain's fried.
And then what do you do?
Just take a deep breath, shakeit off and then just get back on
the race course exactly what Idid.

Speaker 6 (45:00):
I I basically took a deep breath and held it pretty
much all the way to the finish, just the cross fingers to get it
to the finish line.
So you know, I felt like I wasin Vegas to Reno when I was
qualifying for the race and, andthis happened in the situation,
so I was pretty stressed out, Iwas pretty bummed out, but at

(45:21):
the end it worked out and andyou know we're, we're looking
ahead, you know.
So you just kind of breathe.
You know, just deal with it.
It's ball racing, it happens.
I've been racing off for a long, long time down there.

Speaker 2 (45:34):
So I know, you know there's goods and bad and you
just got to go with it and rollthe dice sometimes dude, I give
you such mad props for doingthat like you're making it sound
like it's pretty easy to do,but I know that there's a lot
that goes behind all that stuffand just in your head like so
you have to beat those demonsbefore you even get behind the
wheel again yo for sure.

Speaker 6 (45:55):
I was telling my code driver my code.
I was talking to me at the endand I told him I go to ice and
he's talking about transmission.
He's talking about this and I'mI'm like, hey, shut the hell up
, we got only five more miles,10 more miles, don't open your
mouth.
And I was laughing, he waslaughing at me and I go, don't
even say a word, I just want toget to the finish.
Then you can stop to me.

(46:16):
I'm not going to say a worduntil I get to the finish.
We're just counting down themiles, just hoping that we made
it there, you know, withoutissues yeah, that's right.
Like sometimes it just takesthat clear mind and just just
laser focus on what the job isat hand yes, that's exactly what
it is and, like I said, it, wemade it and, like I said, we're,

(46:37):
we're just happy to, you know,be there and finally pull
something off.
You know we, like I said, we'veled the races before but we've
always had an issue and I thinkwith the new car we got the new
car blues worked out.
I think we're going to be athreat for the thousand and you
know, you know, I know thecourse really well and I really

(47:00):
that you know we'll be there atthe end of the day, hopefully
yeah well, you're always athreat when you're on course,
dude, so give yourself a littlebit more credit than that.

Speaker 2 (47:06):
But anyways, we got to get the class 11 guys.
On last question for you whatwas the best tacos you had when
you were down there?

Speaker 6 (47:15):
dude, I'm telling you it's Phoenix, the Phoenix fish
tacos.
I need to have you come downthere to go have those Phoenix
fish taco place.
That's the best place out there, for sure you have.
You been there not yet okay, well, I'm going to take you this
time.
We're going to come down thereand I need to talk to you about
also the Starlink, with my myfavorite thing of the time using
it down there.
So I need to talk to you aboutall that stuff down the road

(47:38):
here yeah, thank you very muchfor mentioning that.

Speaker 2 (47:40):
Yeah, we can get together.
So what Mark's talking about issome live broadcasting stuff.
We have some kits and stuffthat we can put on the cars just
to get an eye on it.
You know, what's cool about itis we figured out that it's
really really good for logisticsand your whole team and for
safety too.
So it's not just marketing.
There's a lot of other stuffthat it benefits.

Speaker 6 (47:56):
So we're pumped dude yeah, and you're the master at
it.
I all I've been hearing and alleverybody's telling me you're
the master at stuff.
So you need to contact that guyright there because he's doing
and he knows how to do it.
So, because I'm dumber thanrocks it comes to computer stuff
and you're lucky, I'm even onthe stupid Instagram right now
hey, dude, you figured it out.

Speaker 2 (48:16):
We're just going to call you tech support from now
on yes, you're in alright, mark.
Hey, thanks for the complimentsand really congratulations to
you and your whole team.

Speaker 6 (48:26):
Dude, that was awesome to see you on the podium
and I'd like to thank all mysponsors out there monster can
am quantum racing, you know, very go as they help you out a
lot.
I mean you know there's not alot of people out there that
have been in a pretty big goodway and a lot of people out
there that have been there, uh,saying craft gates, belts, kwi,
clutches, all staff suspension, and I mean everybody out there
it's been helping me.
You know, throughout the yearthey stuck by us and and I
couldn't do without all the guysand my team, my teams, the guys

(48:48):
there are always there for meand I couldn't do with it out
those guys later, all right, sowe're going to get some of the
class 11 boys on here real quick.

Speaker 2 (49:03):
Pete McLeod, and I think we got a special guest
that's going to join us, becauseI don't know if Tim Slatten is
going to be able to come on andhang out with us.
I think he's got something elsegoing on.
Pete McLeod, what's up?
Dude?
Going on, bro, how are you?
Good dude?
How are you?
So Tim's not going to be ableto join us.

Speaker 1 (49:22):
I'm not sure.
I don't think so.
I think Clyde's going to jumpon.
I think Tim's a little tied up.

Speaker 2 (49:29):
He, we got a tag Clyde in.
Is that what you said?

Speaker 1 (49:31):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (49:32):
All right, so hopefully does Clyde know how to
get on here.

Speaker 1 (49:35):
I think so.
I think he's watching.
I think I sent you theInstagram link, okay.

Speaker 2 (49:40):
All right, so let me see if we can get him on here.
I'll probably have to add himjust in case.
I don't know if you send himthe text message on how we can
get on, but how was the week foryou guys, dude?

Speaker 1 (49:54):
It was good man.
You know, we started early andgot our pre-running done quite a
bit ahead of time and thenreally just took time to make
sure that the car was dialed inand got ready for the race on
Saturday.
Lots of pre-running homework.

Speaker 2 (50:17):
All right, there we go.
What's up, dude?
You got it on Instagram now.

Speaker 8 (50:21):
Yeah, we're live, we live, all right.

Speaker 1 (50:27):
He does logistics better than that guy.

Speaker 2 (50:30):
Really All right.
So give us a little bit ofbackground on him.

Speaker 1 (50:35):
Oh, Clyde.

Speaker 2 (50:35):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (50:36):
Yeah, no, clyde's.
Clyde's been racing for quite awhile.
I mean, he'd tell you a littlemore about that.
But as far as our program, clyde's the one who's putting
together the pit books.
He's letting us know wherewe're going to pit Pid A's here,
pid B's here, pid B's here, pidC's here.
If you're not here by this time, here's where you're going.

(50:57):
We've got all the razorlogistics.
I mean, there's just no does itbetter than Clyde?
And he's a huge part of thereason that we've had success
down in Mexico and we couldn'tdo it without him.
I mean, there's no questionabout that.

Speaker 2 (51:11):
Yeah, dude, well, logistics is gnarly right, but
hey, so, clyde, real quick.
How is it working with?
Have you dealt with like trophytruck teams and other teams, or
just class 11 stuff?

Speaker 8 (51:20):
I did.
Yeah, I ran.
I worked with Alex for all theyears that we ran that spec
truck with GHA racing, so wewere pretty successful with that
.
I mean we got second and Ithink it was 2015 and the best
in the desert championship wewon Parker, we won, we won quite
a few races.
And best in the desert, we gotthird over third at the

(51:42):
peninsula run in 17.
So having that kind ofbackground and understanding the
pace and all that kind of stuff, so I kind of just brought that
over to class 11 and it'sworking out pretty good.

Speaker 2 (51:52):
Yeah, Well, it's working out pretty good,
obviously.
I mean, Pete and Tim werestoked on it, but there's a huge
difference though.
Like and that's kind of where Iwas going with that leading
that question was it's wild tobe class 11 compared to a trophy
truck Like there?
I don't even know how you wouldswitch the logistics, because
it's completely different, right.

Speaker 8 (52:11):
So it's a lot harder.
Believe it or not, it's, it isa lot harder.
You know the trophy truck, youknow the spec truck stuff, you
know it's it's a lot more fastpaced.
You know, and with that kind ofstuff, and I mean the trophy
truck guys will tell you, if yougot to work on the car, your,
your, your podium days are over.
Yeah, right, you're pretty much.
I mean yeah, you can go for thefinish, but you know you can

(52:32):
maybe get one or two flatsduring the race.
But if the thing comes in andyou got to do a five or 10
minute pit, it's over, right, Imean you're not, you're not
going to win.
And a lot of times when thetruck comes in, I mean maybe you
put tires on it, you put somegas on it and they're out of
there.
So with these things, you knowand I learned it from Tim, he's
got to, he's got a valid pointthat with these bugs it's much
easier to work on it in the pitthan it is in the desert.

Speaker 4 (52:54):
Dude totally.
So every time it comes through.

Speaker 8 (52:56):
You know we, you know .
You know what they say fast isslow or slow is fast.
But we kind of got to.
We have a thorough pit everytime to make sure that we're not
dealing with the stuff in thedesert and nobody stranded out
there.

Speaker 2 (53:07):
Yeah, it's kind of crazy, well, and you have to pit
more often.
You have to make sure that, like yeah, that's kind of crazy
to even think about.
All right, Pete, so give us alittle bit of a rundown of how
the race went.

Speaker 1 (53:18):
The race went good.
Actually, this is probably oneof the better races we've had as
far as not having any downtime.
We started out, me and Ericstarted the race.
We jammed.
We were jamming and Flemantewas just barely out in front of
us.
We stayed with him pretty well.

(53:38):
The big issue we had reallyalready was a broken clutch
cable.
Outside of that was justfinding the get around cars and
vehicles and flip vehicles andall kinds of other stuff.
But smooth, I'd say.
For the most part the race wentpretty flawless for us, to be
honest.

Speaker 2 (53:58):
But do you think the?

Speaker 1 (53:59):
pace is getting faster.
Oh, it's definitely gettingfaster.
Class 11 is like going likethis.
I mean it's just it's nutswhere this is going, dude,
that's it's forcing everybody tobuild new cars lighter, faster,
carbon fibers coming in themixtures and deck lids and hoods

(54:22):
and disc brakes and the.
It's just insane where this isgone.
But I mean, what piece?
I don't power plant.
We had issues with power allday.
We could .5-degree angle and goagain and just power right up

(54:43):
it.
We just have zero issues withTim's motor.
But outside of that it was agood race, just a tough one for
us.
But obviously we'd like to getfirst.

Speaker 2 (54:54):
Yeah, dude, totally hey.
Whoever's got the dog we got tosee if we can calm him down
because it keeps making theaudio cutout.
Hey, what pieces are carbonfiber?
Dude?
That's gnarly.

Speaker 1 (55:05):
Yes, or you're allowed to have fenders, deck
lid and hood fiberglass, soessentially it's basically
fiberglass pieces but it's gotthe carbon fiber look to it.
But yeah, you're allowed to golightweight on the fenders and
the hood and the deck lids.

Speaker 2 (55:23):
Dude class 11's getting bougie over there, don't
you think Clyde Dang yeah.

Speaker 8 (55:29):
Yeah, it's, the pace has really come along.
It's pretty wild.
I got to bring up that I waslistening to the guys talking
about the I'm going to kill mydogs, by the way, after this but
listening to Bryce and the UTVguy talking about the course and

(55:54):
how it had deteriorated.
Oh my God, dude, try doing thatin a class 11.

Speaker 2 (55:59):
So that's how it was, yeah.

Speaker 8 (56:01):
These guys are talking about.
The course was rough man.
I pre-ran it the weekend before.
I mean it was unrecognizable.
I mean those big silk beds downby Colinette, I mean I was
passing these trucks and stuffthat were just buried to the
doors.
It was pretty tough but, likePete said, interestingly enough

(56:26):
we made it through all of itwith no issues, didn't get stuck
, motored up.
All that stuff didn't get stuckin the silk beds or anything,
which is.
It sucks when you get stuck inthat stuff and you're trying to
figure out how you're going toget out of it, but it was
reassuring to get through itwithout any trouble.

Speaker 2 (56:42):
Was it just a creative line choice or was it
planning, preparation?
Because a lot of times, if youjust see that and you don't
already have a plan, you'refucked right, like you fall into
it or whatever.
So what was the reason that youguys had success with it?

Speaker 8 (56:56):
So one of my alternate lines was blocked with
some caution tape so I couldn'tgo that way, so I had to take
the shit line.
Another one it wasn't.
I mean, it was fine when wepre-run and then we came through
and it was just silt and youjust point it and pray and yeah,
I mean check this out.

(57:18):
The two track was so deep thatthe car was riding on the door
and like going to flip over.
Really.

Speaker 5 (57:25):
Oh it's.

Speaker 8 (57:27):
Yeah, pete, am I right?

Speaker 1 (57:29):
Oh, yeah, yeah.
Now it's crazy that you do somuch homework and then you get
out there in the course wildlydifferent by the time you get to
it that you're just like wemight as well have not even
pre-run sometimes.
Yeah, of course you're sochewed and so tore up from all
the all-wheel drives.
It's just wild by the time youget there in a class 11, it's
just.
You never know what's going tohappen.

(57:49):
You always have a game plan, but the game plan always goes
out the window.

Speaker 2 (57:54):
To be honest, yeah, that's what I was going to say.
Dude, I saw some I didn't seeit, on course, because I wasn't
out there, but on Instagram somemassive rocks, I mean, dude,
like a motor size rocks, like anLS block size rocks in the
middle of the GO trail.

Speaker 1 (58:09):
Yeah, oh yeah, that was Pete.
I came down that with Eric and, yeah, we had to pick our way
through there and every time youjust when you're looking at it
near your pre-run or whateveryou're just like.
There's no way we're gettingthrough this dude, but somehow
we always find the way and wealways pick our way through, and
that little bug is so much morecapable than anybody thinks

(58:30):
it's capable of that thing.
It just the little engine, youknow what I mean.
It just keeps going.
There's just something I don'tknow.
We always find a way through.
So, yeah, there was a lot oftalks but we managed to find our
way around everything you know.

Speaker 2 (58:45):
Dude, we've talked about this a bunch of times like
and I'm sure you guys rememberbut like the amount of
admiration and I don't know whatyou want to call it, just cool
factor that you guys have whenyou get those things across the
finish line, it blows me away.
I can only imagine what thefans think when they're down
there, like when you got to thefinish line, where people just
like hooting and hollering thewhole time.

Speaker 1 (59:07):
Oh, yeah, always.
Yeah, that's definitely a fanfavorite.
It's you know, we always talkabout it.
I mean it's like it's trophytrucks and it's class 11.
And that's the two coolestclasses off road right now and
it's super fun, class 11.
It's fun to be a part of a bigcompany like Baja Vita.
That you know.
We're just we're getting afterit this year and it's been

(59:29):
really good so far and yeah it'sjust that's when you're
supposed to lean in with yourhat on the phone.

Speaker 2 (59:33):
On the phone, dude, boom, they're gonna got some
Baja drink right here.
Here's a hot chocolate.
There you go, dude, Just yeah.
Oh yeah, Pete's got it on hisshirt too.
Just start chomping on it, dude.
You're good.

Speaker 8 (59:47):
Well, yeah, it is.
You know, when you talk aboutthe fans, it is pretty cool,
like in 21,.
You know, I finished the Baja500 and it was like I mean we
were coming through back throughEl Host at like five, six AM
and people hear a bug coming, you know, and I mean they're
crawling out of their tents atfive, six AM, like what the

(01:00:07):
hell's that noise, you know?
And they come out and they'recheering you on.
And I mean, when you'reliterally suffering in these
bugs because let's make no bonesabout it, it is not always a
comfortable ride and so whenyou're kind of putting yourself
through that and then you knowthe fans are cheering you on, it
kind of makes a lot of it worthit.

Speaker 2 (01:00:26):
Yeah, they totally.
You know, I can only imagine.
Yeah, cause I see all you guysand, obviously, like I've never
been able to sit in a class onebefore which I, or class 11
before which I'd like to one ofthese days, so maybe when you
guys are out testing, I couldcome.

Speaker 1 (01:00:42):
Let's go Go.

Speaker 2 (01:00:44):
Yeah, it would be pretty cool.
What do you guys have plannednext?
Actually, baja 1000.
Oh, that's going to be a.
Did you hear what Mark saidabout the course I did?

Speaker 1 (01:00:56):
Miles 1308 miles.

Speaker 2 (01:00:59):
What's the longest?

Speaker 8 (01:01:00):
We did the one in 21.

Speaker 5 (01:01:02):
How long was that?

Speaker 8 (01:01:03):
one 1221,.
I think 12, 1220 something.

Speaker 2 (01:01:07):
Yeah, about 1225 or so, dude, another hundred miles,
that's going to end.
It's at the end.
That's going to be freakingbrutal dude, holy shit.

Speaker 8 (01:01:15):
If we could come around San Felipe and not have
to do a European believe it ornot in the class 11 car, that's
going to be way better.
I know it sounds crazy to wantto go through San Felipe.
Whoops, but that's actuallymore doable than or a pan.

Speaker 2 (01:01:30):
It's tough.
Yeah, probably less hard on thevehicles too.

Speaker 8 (01:01:34):
Yeah, those rods and stuff like that.
It's just, it's just, it's justcrazy.

Speaker 2 (01:01:37):
Yeah, cause you're dragging belly all the way
through there, aren't you?

Speaker 8 (01:01:40):
Yep, a lot of it yeah .

Speaker 2 (01:01:42):
Yeah, that's great.
What about, like riding on the?
I always call it the crownmolding, but like you're riding
on the edge and riding on theside of the tire, like can you
guys do some of that stuff ornot in the?
Still like that.

Speaker 8 (01:01:53):
The silt.
The track is so wide that itjust sucks you into one or the
other.

Speaker 2 (01:01:57):
Yeah, so you just hold on and just hope for the
best.

Speaker 8 (01:02:00):
Yeah, you're just kind of doing a grind right,
pete, and then, and you can'tget out of the line, even if you
try, you just got to, you justgot to pan it and go for it.
Dude, that's so wild.

Speaker 2 (01:02:09):
The closest I've ever .
I would love to be able toexperience that.
The closest I've ever come tothat is using my dad's razor 800
to pre-run on the UTV WorldChampionship course and the
tires weren't touching theground for half the time.
Just riding the belly the wholetime.
One, in fact one time we had toget out and push.

Speaker 8 (01:02:28):
But yeah, the peninsula run should be pretty
wild.
You know, Baja Vita, BajaJerkees really, really into this
.
It's pretty cool to see they're.
They're super fired up about itand we're still in a position
to win the championship, sothat's our goal.

Speaker 2 (01:02:47):
That's super cool.
Does that mean that the prepstarts now?
Prep started on Monday.
Dude, you guys are on italready.
Right, let's see here we got aMTC Santiago said greeting from
the team Esparuda de Encinada weare eager to compete in the
Baja 1000.
Are there a lot of guys thatare already starting to think

(01:03:07):
about doing the Baja 1000 inclass 11, you think?

Speaker 8 (01:03:11):
Yeah, they were already playing it and those
guys are such great competitors.
We had a good run with them allof last season at the peninsula
run, so we couldn't ask forbetter competitors.
Everybody in this thing's likeeverybody's like friends and
brothers.
You know, when you're in aclass 11, you know everybody has
similar parts, components, steering boxes and all that

(01:03:33):
stuff.
I mean, they loaned us a.
They loaned us a steering boxat the last Baja 500.
Dude, that's so cool.

Speaker 2 (01:03:41):
Pete, were those the guys that you were talking about
last time?
We were on the show that youguys are battling with?

Speaker 1 (01:03:45):
Yeah, well, them and yeah, I mean we're always
battling with those guys, andthen also the Flemates, that's
who won this race.
They've been really dominatingthe last four races.
Those guys are studs.
But yeah, the Sarabias, thoseguys hats off to them.
We've had a lot of good battleswith those guys and you know
there's a lot of goodcompetitors in class 11.

(01:04:07):
We enjoy racing them all andit's always all love at the end
of the day.
You know, we enjoy racing allthese guys and if we could help
them, we will, and if they helpus, they do, and it's a really
cool kind of class to beinvolved in Dude?

Speaker 2 (01:04:20):
it totally is, and it keeps growing on me more and
more.
I don't know Like I went toCranon a few weeks ago and the
amount of class 11 dudes thatwere over there like that was
pretty sick too.

Speaker 8 (01:04:31):
Yeah, we were.
I remember I don't know if itwas the bolts they gave us or
something they gave us somesteering box components or
steering box at the Baja 500.
And at the same time, thereason they were there next to
us is because they have broketheir transmission.
And Eric from the Baja Jerikiwas like hey, if you want to
borrow our transmission, you cantake it.
You know, so everybody workstogether.

(01:04:53):
And then they were helping usreplace the steering box on our
car.

Speaker 2 (01:04:56):
Dude, that's so sick.

Speaker 8 (01:04:58):
Yeah, yeah, like literally right here, we're
there, so it's a lot of fun.
It's a lot of fun.

Speaker 2 (01:05:04):
Hey, pete, repeat what you just said, because we
didn't hear you.

Speaker 1 (01:05:07):
Oh, just that, yeah that they were there helping us
change that steering box.
They were in the motorcompartment, literally like
doing the work alongside of it.
It was just cool to haveanother team like that involved
and wanting you to keep goingwhen they're out.

Speaker 2 (01:05:21):
That is so sick.
Hey, I don't know if you heard, but Mark said that we've been
helping with some live streamingstuff.
I know we have to build a mount, but it would be super cool to
put a Starlink on one of theClass 11 cars and see you guys
live too.

Speaker 1 (01:05:34):
That'd be sick, that'd be awesome.

Speaker 2 (01:05:36):
Let's talk about it a little bit after the show.
All right, boys, we got to getsome terrible Herp skies on the
show.
But dude, first of all, firstand foremost I say this every
time Congratulations forcrossing the damn finish line.
That's a feat itself.
But having fun and showcasingthe sport is like.
I always just applaud you guysfor that.

(01:05:58):
So throw some shouts out andthen we're going to get those
guys on Cool.

Speaker 8 (01:06:03):
Yeah, I mean obviously you know Baja Dricky,
baja Vita.
You know Sleighton, Tim'sMotors.
You know, I know MP does somestuff.
Our whole team, man, obviouslywhen you're doing a feat like
this, your whole team.
You know everybody is justimportant as the next guy and we
have no slackers on our team.
You know you got Ryan, justin, chester, monica, rudy, adrian,

(01:06:27):
you know Edgar, armando Ventura, every Byron, I mean you name it
.
You know these guys everybody'sa hustler, everybody puts in
their work.
Chris at Baja Vita, I mean he'sthe main guy over there that
makes he makes all this happen.
You know he kind of like turnsus loose and says, ok, see if
you can make this work, and sowe do that.

(01:06:47):
Obviously, monica, you knowshe's super integral to helping
me with all the logistics.
She's basically my right handand she takes care of a lot of
the stuff.
And then also, you know I gotto give Alex a GHA shout out.
I mean if it wasn't for him wewouldn't even be a team.
You know, because he startedall this a long time ago with

(01:07:08):
the spec truck and the class one.
And then this guy is a psychobecause he raised class trophy
spec and he's the one who saidhey, let's go race class 11
after that.

Speaker 2 (01:07:19):
Dude?
Yeah, I remember Alex wastelling us that and I was like
dude, you are a psycho man.
What are you thinking?
He's a badass.
It doesn't make any sense, total badass.
All right, pete, throw yourshout out.

Speaker 1 (01:07:30):
I mean, it's the same ones that he just mentioned.
It's huge thanks to Baja Jerky, baja Vita.
None of this would be possiblewithout them.
And obviously Tim Slettin runsan amazing program.
He's built this bug and hismotor.
We wouldn't make it throughhalf of this without his motor
and you know, just super blessedto be a part of this team and

(01:07:50):
grateful to be where we're at.
And you know, clyde nailed therest of it.

Speaker 2 (01:07:54):
So All right, two quick questions, so you guys got
15 seconds to answer both ofthem.
Clyde, you go first.
Who or how much time do youhave left on that motor, or is
it going to be a fresh one forthe Baja 1,000?
Fresh one?

Speaker 8 (01:08:05):
Fresh one, all fresh, all right.

Speaker 2 (01:08:06):
P.
What was the best tacos youguys ate down there?

Speaker 1 (01:08:10):
I'm a big valley team .
I like those tacos that havevalley.
They're dead man.
I don't know.
I can't find anything betterthan that.

Speaker 2 (01:08:16):
All right, we'll slide it in there.
What was yours, clyde?
I'm a Trilateral guy.
Good, you guys got it All right.
Thanks, guys.
Really appreciate you guysjoining us, and let's talk a
little bit more about the livestream stuff.
We'll connect after, for sure.
Take care man Later, guys.

Speaker 8 (01:08:31):
Thank you, thank you.

Speaker 2 (01:08:34):
Sure, all right.
So we're going to get JamesDean on.
We might even have specialguest Brian Moore come on.
So, james, go ahead and try tojoin.
Brian, go ahead and try to joinas well.
Dude, it's so cool to see thateverybody is just having such a
good time down there.
Like the amount of stress andthe like all these guys have
said, the amount of what do youcall it, the work that goes into

(01:08:54):
it and teamwork that goes intoit, it's just, it's amazing.
And for those guys to have sucha smile on their face, whether
they cross the finish line ornot, it just amazes me.
I love it, all right, so we'regoing to get James Dean on.
James, what's up?

Speaker 9 (01:09:08):
Hey, how's it going.

Speaker 2 (01:09:09):
Good dude Say so.
We're going to see.
I think B Moore might join usas well.
We'll see if he has time, butso far, how did you feel down at
the Baja 400?

Speaker 9 (01:09:23):
I'll tell you what.
It's a pretty surrealexperience Just all the way
through it.
Coming through off-road racingfrom a big family, my
grandfather started racing backin the 60s and my dad raced in,
had him in the 80s and he wasdone.
And growing up as a kid we werearound all those guys the Herbs
, the Collins, the McMillans, all those big names.

(01:09:44):
So growing up you see a teamlike the Herbs and it's like a
pinnacle of the sport.
You got to realize and to beeven allowed to drive one of
their trucks.
Man, like truly it was achildhood dream come true and,
like I said, it was just surreal.
It was one of the coolestexperiences of my life, for sure
.

Speaker 2 (01:10:02):
Yeah, it was cool and what I like to see too is well,
you kind of already gave alittle bit of the background on
it, but you've done motocrossand dirt bikes and different
things like that throughout yourlife, so you're used to driving
in the dirt and riding in thedirt and obviously your father
drives and helps out with TimHerbs in the number 19 truck and
you got the opportunity to doit for the 400.

(01:10:25):
One of the things that I firstnoticed was I haven't really
seen you in a trophy truck everand I saw you at qualifying and
you took off just like everybodyelse takes off.
You were giving it some pepperand then there was a little
chicane with some like I wouldcall them just like whoops, but
you did it like a dirt bike guy.
You held the throttle and youskipped over it and you kind of

(01:10:46):
preloaded and it just floatedover this little crest and came
down and I looked at B-more andI go no shit, that dude's ridden
dirt bikes and I had no ideathat you had ever done that,
because that's the way you droveand I was like you can always
tell a moto did.

Speaker 9 (01:11:00):
So it's actually funny to say that I really we
were never allowed to ride dirtbikes growing up.
We had like pilots and fanciesand stuff like that, but dirt
bikes were never one of those.
There needs to be some force, which is crazy.
Our dad always thought we'd gethurt and unfortunately there's
just so many guys on dirt bikes.
They're cool and I give madprops to everyone that races
dirt bikes.

(01:11:20):
They're one of the toughestdudes out there, but
unfortunately you make one ortwo mistakes and it's brutal.
So we weren't allowed on that, but a lot of it comes from the
buggy.

Speaker 4 (01:11:30):
Oh really.

Speaker 9 (01:11:31):
Yeah, our front end is really light.
I've got all the power on theback, so to keep that front end
out of the hole is crucial.
So you've got to learn where toplace it, how to get stuff over
it, and I think from there Ijust kind of excelled in the
buggy.
I drove a little hard so Ilearned a little bit more than I
probably should have.

Speaker 2 (01:11:50):
But you would not to do.

Speaker 9 (01:11:52):
Exactly right.
But I think a lot of it camefrom the buggy trying to keep
that front end up in the air.
I don't like that buggy kick.

Speaker 2 (01:11:57):
Yeah, actually.
So that's actually a reallygood point.
So I guess it was kind of thatsame style that I was seeing,
Because with the trophy truckyou obviously have a lot more
power.
With the buggy your foot'sprobably just smashed on the
ground like just trying to getit to go, but you have to use a
lot of your front end input tokeep the front end off the
ground, Because that's what itlooked like instantly, Because

(01:12:18):
you're like brap, brap, brap, brap and then you just float it
over that little crest.
It was so sick.

Speaker 9 (01:12:22):
No, that was cool.
It was definitely, like I said, one of the cooler qualifying
but definitely a really tightsection.
So I felt like for the spectrucks and the four-wheel drive
it's very beneficial Becausewith a little bit too much power
sometimes it just takes so muchaway from it Because you have
too much momentum coming in inturns, you're slowing down too
much and there's a lot offactors that go into it.
But, like I said, it was apretty good run.

(01:12:44):
I think we got 10th, so I waspretty pumped with that.

Speaker 2 (01:12:47):
Yeah Well, how did you actually feel behind the
wheel then?
So was that your first timedriving a TT.

Speaker 9 (01:12:54):
So Tuesday was actually the first time ever
driving a trophy truck and theHerps were generous and let me
take the truck out for 30 miles.
I got to drive from Ohos to K77.
And I got to learn quite a bitright there but wasn't fully
comfortable yet Because there'sjust so much faster than
anything I've really driven Over100, like it's just still

(01:13:16):
pulling.
There's so much power there.
The paddle shifts.
It's a five-speed in that trucknow, so it's very spurty on the
move, ready to go and a lot ofpower.
It'll break those wheels looseat 100 miles an hour.

Speaker 2 (01:13:27):
So I noticed a couple of things Because we got to see
a little bit of the livefootage that we had in your
truck.
I noticed a couple of thingsLike maybe this is the thing you
were talking about with thebuggy.
During qualifying, you pushedthe front end a few times Like
you were like, oh shit, thistakes a little bit longer to
slow down, and so I don't wantto say you missed it, because
you didn't actually miss thecorners, but you overshot them a

(01:13:48):
little bit and had to correct, overcorrect and come back in.
So that's probably where thelearning curve was.
You just had to learn splitsecond.

Speaker 9 (01:13:56):
Yeah, 100%.
That's where in the trucksthey're very tough Coming from a
buggy, because our buggy canturn so well.
We have a cutting break, so ifit's a really tight corner we
just grab it.
Where the trucks have a lockerand it's a little tough to
figure out at first, stilltrying to learn it, just like
you got to fully pitch it Rightnow more comfortable Just
getting the truck side of itwith the throttle, yeah Go from

(01:14:16):
there, do you feel like you gota pretty good grasp on it, since
you got to put in a few miles?
Oh yeah, qualifying it wasn'tlike they have the confidence I
usually have going into it.
But then race day, we were alot more calm being able to we
had a couple lucky breaks and wewere able to just go from.
Every time we got aroundsomeone we would just drive to
the next truck.
And that confidence from beingable to know that the pace is

(01:14:38):
there and that there's a lotmore in the tank Was really cool
yeah well and you say you got alittle bit more confidence.

Speaker 2 (01:14:44):
But I'm gonna go ahead and say that you got a lot
more confidence because youwere sending it pretty hard,
dude.
It was pretty cool that.
It was pretty cool to see.
So for anybody that didn'tactually get to see it on On
Instagram, I think this has goneviral already for the off-road
community.
But how was it sending a trophytruck that far, dude?
Was that a mistake or were youjust like, dude, I got a chance.

Speaker 9 (01:15:06):
I'm going so I mean an off-road racing, right the
whole thing.
You got to have some fun.
You got to go out there andthere's a lot of pressure once
you get into these big trucks, especially with the herds.
You got that live stream, soit's actually about everyone
watching and the speeddifference I wasn't used to.
So we came in, I wanted to jumpit and Halfway through the air
being my coat or like, okay, that was way too fast.

Speaker 2 (01:15:30):
You're sitting in the air, holy-anus steering wheel
going oh man, 100% my co-writersitting there.

Speaker 9 (01:15:36):
I was like Shane, I was fast and he goes.
I don't think we're falling yet.

Speaker 2 (01:15:42):
Well, I guess, okay.
So let's talk about the buggycomparison.
You couldn't have felt thatgood landing in a buggy.

Speaker 9 (01:15:48):
No, the buggy would have been a lot rougher of a
landing.
For sure, the truck on thoseKeings manager, just it, like it
was very forgiving, landedsmooth.
It was.
It was awesome, dude, I.

Speaker 2 (01:16:02):
I can only imagine how cool it was.
And then you probably I don'tknow how it was, because you
booked it after that you wereJust hammered down after that,
but could you see anybody on thesidelines going?

Speaker 9 (01:16:12):
Yeah, cuz, I mean, obviously we saw it on the
videos, oh yeah oh yeah, everywe came around the next turn and
everyone's sitting therescreaming, phones are out to hit
the next jump and oh, you couldhear from in the truck.
It was like it's a realexperience.
It was pretty cool.

Speaker 2 (01:16:27):
Dude, that's so sick man the showstopper.
Has anybody said like you'retrying to give you a new
nickname, like sender oranything yet?

Speaker 9 (01:16:36):
No, no, nothing like that.
Be more starting to call itJames's jump.
But Besides that and I saidit's it was fun, really cool.

Speaker 2 (01:16:50):
You should.
You should be pumped, becausehaving opportunities like that
don't come Very often right.
And to have an opportunity likethat and take advantage of it
and also perform at a high level, it's very, very good.
Like you should really patyourself on the back first of
all, but you should also likeUnderstand, like how cool it is.
Like all of us, myself included, if I read the opportunity,

(01:17:10):
treat it the same way as you, just be humble about it and just
go as like good as I can andhave a bunch of fun.
Bella Bouchard jumped on at thebeginning of the show and she
asked Bryson Orin what the mostdifficult portion of their race
was.
Do you have a difficult portionof the race?

Speaker 9 (01:17:25):
I'll be honest, there's a tight technical
section after K77 before valleytee kind of knew we beat it in
pre-running and everything and Istill get used to the truck so
seen over the hood and makingthe super tight corners with the
front end pushing, I reallystruggled in that.
It's definitely something Iwant to want to work on and try
to be able to improve in.

(01:17:46):
But I mean, really it was justa big comfort disc booster, like
I said, we would go Every timewe got around.
So we just drove to the nextperson and I was able to figure
out just be able to keep myselfcalm and slow down and don't
push through dust, don't takechances and, like I said, no one
comes from behind.
So yeah, really I get in thatspot.

(01:18:06):
I mean, you know there, we'vebeen there in the buggy a couple
times behind my brother and I,um, but states racing and mechs
racing so different waydifferent yeah.
And most your big names.
Like I said, you got Bryce, yougot Lou Dan Robb and Catherine
Annie McMillan.
You got a lot of big names downin Mexico and Prudio, but those
let's so to go down there Iknow you can kind of run that
pace in the same category wasReally a huge confidence build

(01:18:30):
builder and, like I said, such asurreal experience the whole
thing and you got to think theHerb Shreven likes it.
Allow me to be a part of it.

Speaker 2 (01:18:36):
So, uh, I'm gonna ask you another question following
this.
Uh, but off road pit biatchsaid, uh, we can make one for
you, and that's a nicknamegrasshopper.
I think he sent it way harderthan grasshopper.
I think rocket man would besomething cool.
Um, but yeah, so, having thatopportunity, um, have you guys
to have a debrief with any ofthe guys on the team, like Todd
or Ryan or anybody, and Talk tothem about how your experience

(01:18:59):
was, or what their experiencewas, with you being behind the
wheel.

Speaker 9 (01:19:03):
Yeah, we talked about it after the race and, uh, on
my hand, like I said, I just Ihad.
My job was make sure to get thetruck to Tim.
So we didn't take any chances,we didn't push and Even
qualifying with the data thatthey pull off the trucks, it's,
it's getting tough coming from abuggies.
We have no really electronics, you can't tell as much and you
can't lie as much either.

(01:19:24):
So you got to make sure you'reon it.
Um, but they said that, uh, Iguess it was really really cool
taught and then we're all pumped.
The whole crew, damian, workson the truck.
He put together an amazingtruck and we had zero issues.
They said our qualifying roomwas flawless on the computer
data, no mischiefs, nothing.
I'm still trying to get to talkto Todd been busy with work and

(01:19:45):
everything since I've been backand see how the data looks from
there.
But they were all pumped.
Um, super, super happy.
Uh, tires came off at like 80tread.
So, like I said, there was alot of high ends on my side.
Yeah unfortunately, Tim just Timjust has a lot of path luck
sometimes and I feel terriblefor the guy because he needs to
eat.
I want him to win so bad and Ithought we could have been close

(01:20:07):
.
And it's Mexico.
You never know what's gonnahappen.

Speaker 2 (01:20:10):
Yeah, we were talking about that with the boys
earlier too.
It is kind of crazy, man, butum, yeah, you should pat
yourself on the back, like Isaid, because it's cool that you
were able to do all that stuff.
Do you have any plans ongetting back in the truck?
Because?
Will them just uh commented inlooking forward to the 1000.
I don't know if that meant youor he was just looking forward
to going down there.

Speaker 9 (01:20:29):
Yeah, yeah, so will is one of the pick guys.
He's awesome, love him, um, butyeah, so I've been teamed up
with them, or plan was to do the1000 with them all year.
Cool, it's really worked out toget some See see time and some
experience in the truck.
Before we went there.
Not sure what section I'll bedoing Once the boss man, tim,
figures out who's doing what anduh and Troy, they can figure
out who's gonna do what, butit'll be tim herbs, my dad and I

(01:20:50):
in the trophy truck, 19 at the1000.
So super excited and can't waitfor that.

Speaker 2 (01:20:54):
That's gonna be pretty cool, man and that, like
I said, those opportunitiesdon't just come up there,
they're pretty cool and that's alot of uh what do you call it
level of respect that the wholeteam and the drivers and stuff,
because they don't just letanybody come in there and do
that stuff right.

Speaker 9 (01:21:09):
No, no, like I said, once you go onto the herpes team
or any any team like that forthat matter the pressure that
gets put on you is just so muchmore like I've never felt so
much pressure coming on this guygoing into a Truck or a vehicle
at all and I pulled him out.
I pulled him out.
I feel like this is a ton ofpressure and I'm really hoping I
could just help out and performand do my, do my duty.

Speaker 2 (01:21:32):
Yeah, you got a lot to live up to.
Hey, be more.
What's up, dude?
How are you Sorry?

Speaker 7 (01:21:36):
dude phone call.
Off the phone call.
What's up?
Be more?
How are you buddy?
Hey how you doing.

Speaker 2 (01:21:41):
So it was funny, james, when, uh, when we were
doing the live stream, uh, I wasobviously not in the helicopter
watching you, we were helpingproduce it, uh, but it was funny
because, uh, I get a message onthe text broadcast that we were
doing and be more goes.
Dude, he just hit a jump sohuge and we hadn't seen it or
anything.

(01:22:01):
Be more, how was it seeing thatthing in the air?

Speaker 7 (01:22:05):
It was.
It was funny because, like wewere, you know that that section
, I remembered it from the, fromthe 500, and I didn't.
I'm like, obviously, everyone'slike normally kind of rolls
over it and, uh, you know, corner.
More obviously, I'm looking ata monitor and kind of trying to
like, hey, is this working, isthis working, is this working?
And all of a sudden I just seelike literally through the, the
window of the helicopter.
I seen you jump up and I lookat my screen.

(01:22:25):
I was like, oh my god, and itwas from the air, the air
actually looked at it.
It's so big, so big.
Uh, yeah, I, that's theofficial, james jumps.
You know, I'm telling you it's,it's been, it's been named like
that was.
Uh, yeah, that was, that wassick.
That's crazy.
I can tell you, dude Uh, wewere talking about George is
like dude, no one.
It's like who cares?

(01:22:46):
Who wins?
Dude, it's always, it's allwho's.
You know, the biggest jump offthe dyke went for battle pram.
No one cares.
So I think that works for thattoo, as well.

Speaker 2 (01:22:55):
I think what we should do is you sent me a
couple videos and I just playedthem for the audience and stuff,
but I think we should try tosee if we can get a good picture
of it and then, or maybe wejust even use one of those reels
and see if we could submitsomething on the dirt life or
the terrible herpes, motorsports, uh uh instagram account and
see if we could come up with anickname people submit nicknames
for like rocket man or bigsender or whatever.

Speaker 7 (01:23:16):
Not?
Not bad for a guy that uh, withno, with no truck time, the
buggy dork time and just.
You got to impress him somehow, dude.
I think he's got.
I think you got to do that.
It's impressive, it's.
You know, it's funny.
The just the dean family justgot all the, all the talent.

Speaker 2 (01:23:35):
It's uh, save some for us, james, I know right.

Speaker 9 (01:23:39):
You gotta say something to my brother.
How top of it, man.

Speaker 7 (01:23:41):
Well, I, I had, he was with me last night, we were,
we were talking about it.
Uh, poor guy, but uh, I felt Iwas like man there.
Here's the downside of livestream, dude.
It's like the now it's, it'sstuck on the internet forever
now.
Oh yeah so it's fine, it's justuh, yeah, poor guy.

Speaker 2 (01:23:59):
Well, we just talked to like mark brunette and he was
like dude, that's Baja, likethere's nothing else that you
can say.
I know, that's a.

Speaker 7 (01:24:06):
That's a thing I mean .
There's so many things thathappen like and you know that
instance, like you know it sucksthat that happened, but at the
moment, like it's in the moment, right Like you you're, you're
in such tunnel vision like, hey,how can I get, how can I do
this, this and that, whateveryou know, it's funny, it was
talking to as your brother aboutit.
Actually he was like man, I waswell, I almost had it out with
walking the, the jackson, thetruck almost out of that hole

(01:24:28):
and it's like man, if it wouldjust have been like another two
minutes, it's like I couldprobably could have got it out
without having to get trying toget told.

Speaker 9 (01:24:38):
Yeah.

Speaker 7 (01:24:40):
Yeah, and that's it's .
It's awesome, like I said that, and at the end of the day, I
think you know, for you knowthem racing for the thousand
they're probably a betterhappier in that position anyway.

Speaker 2 (01:24:49):
So yeah, totally hey, we got some comments that come
in.
Uh, let's see here.
Logster 337 said I love thedener boys.
Uh, let's see Dean Porter saidbe more as beautiful.
West leftler said.
Oh, he's throwing in a nickname, James the jet dean Dude.
I think this could be good.
I think we should throw a polltogether.

(01:25:10):
Be more.
I don't know if you want to putin that much effort on the
social media side of things.
But you probably get a fewnames in there.

Speaker 7 (01:25:17):
Oh, I mean, let's do it.

Speaker 2 (01:25:19):
It's got to be clip of the year, right?
Yeah, dude.
There was a lot of clips though.

Speaker 7 (01:25:23):
Yeah no it was fun.
I mean the coast we finally gotthe coast section, do you?
It's like that that hold downthere, those it's so, so pretty,
like, and just that's the thing.
I mean people like what we'retrying to show, the live side
dude Like, I mean people getserased down the beach and you
know, I mean the fact that Ithink we're figuring, we're
getting closer right, likePutting in the perspective of

(01:25:44):
people are like oh, you shouldbe doing this, you should be
doing this.
You know, it's like I don'tthink they realized, kind of
we're just testing, like I thinkthere's so much opportunity and
capability, but we're just likewe're getting, we're going for
reliability, you know.

Speaker 2 (01:25:56):
Yeah, we had a lot of reliability though one of the
utvs that was racing, I think ittook them about 12, 12 and a
half hours to complete the wholerace and they only had, I think
, three or four minutes ofdowntime.
So it was pretty much 99%.

Speaker 7 (01:26:07):
Yeah, and I, you know , obviously like on our end,
dude, I mean 150 miles an hourstill getting 100 megs down like
yeah did you hear that, James.

Speaker 2 (01:26:15):
They were going 150 in the helicopter and he was
still getting super goodstarling speed.
Yeah crazy.

Speaker 9 (01:26:21):
I would tell you.
The live feed is gotta be thecoolest thing ever.
We got out and we werefollowing Tim going up to Ohos
and watching the coast live likethat has got to be the coolest
thing you know, people don'tknow, but we were.

Speaker 7 (01:26:35):
Obviously, you know that wasn't supposed to be prior
or supposed to be public at all.
You know we had, we had had thediscussion, said, hey, look if
it works, you know, becausequalifying day we obviously had
some issues.
Yeah, that we had worked aroundand me and George Just I mean
just trying to figure it out,and then obviously realizing,
like you know, hey, someone putscarbon wrap on one of the
dishes and that I mean it'scrazy.
You know, you can, we can nowlike the algorithm, like how you

(01:26:57):
can see the algorithm and whatthe dishes are doing and the
information we're getting, wecan adjust.
And so, had we not have thatinformation now, Obviously we
would have never known thatthere was carbon in this rap and
we're getting signal loss andthis on that.
So it's, you know, I know, likefor us on the terrible side,
we're just I think it's amazingto be with a group of people
that are willing to innovate andspend the money to, you know,

(01:27:21):
try to try to move this forward.
They see, they see it, we seeit, I mean we're very passionate
about it.
So you know, how can we, how dowe get the sports, the next, the
next phase, where it's just not, you know.

Speaker 6 (01:27:34):
It's just a lot of right you know it's, do I think
it's tv?

Speaker 7 (01:27:39):
No, I think tv is stupid.
I think it's like how do youput a 12 hour race and a one
hour or 45 minute you know Showwith, with commercials that you
can't and and so, in my opinion, you know, with the live, uh,
obviously you're watching whatit is and you know, I think,
what, I think that can be done.

Speaker 2 (01:27:58):
Well, you're in it, like you're literally in it.

Speaker 7 (01:28:01):
I mean it's like, like you said, like you know,
like truck rolls over, that'slike minus if we smash the
starlink off, but, like you know, if you can be in that moment,
you can be in and I think like, again, we we haven't even done
the full, full, the Capabilitiesright.
We're just getting, just tryingto get reliability and then you

(01:28:23):
can really start implementing.
You know, all these otherthings that we're talking about,
whether I mean, like you know, having something like building,
whether an internal app so youcan talk to the driver while
they're, you know, in a speedzone, obviously like that's
total dude, like I think thesky's the limit with data and
and all that stuff.
It's just a matter of, you know, reliability, and I think we're

(01:28:44):
every race gets better, welearn more every time and you
know it's it's, you know it'sjust that's it.
I actually see the comment aboutthe fact that it's not coming
within the industry.
You know, that's a funny thing.
You mention that.
I'll, I'll keep that to myself, but yeah, it's uh, you know,

(01:29:05):
yeah, it takes people like theHerbs and the Menzies and and
people like that that arewilling Because they're so
passionate about it and theylove the sport so much that
they're willing to invest theirown money to make it better.

Speaker 2 (01:29:14):
Yeah, there's all kinds of stuff that comes into
play too well and people likeyou too be more and the guys
that work with us.
Like everybody has got a littlepart of it right, but yeah,
like tracking is great now withthat stuff.
Like we even have a Multiplayerthat you can actually select
all the live stream cameras, soif the organization's ever
wanted it, then we could justhave.
You could pick your dirt bike, you could pick or, excuse me,

(01:29:36):
you could pick your side by side, or you could pick a Uh trophy
truck.
You pick a 6100 truck and youcould watch everybody.
So maybe you know, maybe theorganizations will maybe start
taking us a little seriouslysoon instead of, you know,
trying to uh, oh, dude, you knowwhat we should do be more,
since we got to find the clipbecause we we saved all of the
footage.
Uh, james, and I wonder if wecould get the footage of you in

(01:29:59):
the cab coming up to the jump, because nobody's got that.

Speaker 7 (01:30:03):
Oh yeah, I didn't think about that.

Speaker 2 (01:30:04):
Yeah, dude, that would be sick if we could find
that.
I didn't think about that.
All you're gonna see is a hoodand sky and just like.
What was the view?
What was the viewpoint for youand Shane?

Speaker 9 (01:30:17):
Sky in the hood like literally there was nothing else
, and the feeling like you justwent weightless.
It was.

Speaker 7 (01:30:24):
It was crazy.
Yeah, we, yeah, like how manylike was it like?
Hey, we're, we're still in theair.
I'm in the air right now.

Speaker 9 (01:30:30):
Oh yeah, it was full ricky bobby like yep, I'm in the
air, not good.

Speaker 2 (01:30:36):
Dude, that's hilarious.
Shane was probably sittingthere just with his eyes peeled
open, not even blinking.

Speaker 9 (01:30:41):
Oh he's, he's crazy.
He just sits there, smiles andgiggles and laughs.
Relan, he's like that wasawesome, but I'm like that was
waking up Shane.

Speaker 7 (01:30:48):
Yeah, I just thought the fact that you thought you
were going like that thing is sofast.
You didn't think you were goingthat fast, you know Like that's
100% Impressed at a cityacceleration.

Speaker 2 (01:30:59):
So it felt slower, like when you were going up.
You're like, oh, this is good.

Speaker 9 (01:31:02):
Oh, it felt like probably 50, maybe 55.
We were probably doing like 80,like it was way too fast, way
too fast.

Speaker 2 (01:31:11):
Dude.
That's so badass though.
So what was your guys'sfavorite things about going down
to Mexico this trip?

Speaker 9 (01:31:18):
I mean, it's every Mexico trip.
You want to know the truth, going down there and spend time
with your friends and Such greatpeople like the her, the her
crew.
They surround themselves withsuch amazing people.
They are amazing people.
They'll give you the shirt offtheir back.
They're just so generous and sonice.
It's hard not to have a goodtime when you're surrounded by
people like that.
And I love racing, so beingable to pre-run every day and do

(01:31:40):
with my friends.
Right, I got my brother downthere, we got our friend Shane,
longtime friend.
Our guys, peter, have a lot ofchase us and love just going
down there to be with us.
And for me, that's the biggestthing with off-road racing.
We're family and it's toughseeing nowadays, right, teams
got a little more competitive.
No one's right.
Growing up, everyone was family.
It didn't matter who you raisedfor what you did.

(01:32:01):
It was a family.
And I miss that part of thisfor because I feel like it
brought us all together andthat's the best part about it.
Right, at the end of the day, Iwant to be able to go out and
hang out with Bryce or hang outLuke, hang out with all these
guys and Just talk about how theday was right.
All the fun sections like thejump, or man I lost, two will
drive like Bryce did.
Like right, he lost hisfront-wheel drive.
Those are the stories.

(01:32:22):
Or, for instance, even mybrother, right like I, my heart
goes out to him for.
But for that to happen, right, three races from now, right,
we're gonna be laughing about it.
Yeah one of the long night itwas to get him out and the
people in there to get him right.
It's just after racing, such afamily sport and you really
can't beat it.
In my eyes, I think that'swhat's makes it the most
addicting thing out there.
It's.

(01:32:42):
I collect more anything's worsethan drugs because it's
different.

Speaker 7 (01:32:49):
Yeah, 100%, I think off-road is something like it.
I mean the experience of it,right, like the fact that, like
and that's my biggest thing, like you know, we have a bunch
of stuff we're doing internallyat Terribles that you know like,
we know, like we know what todo, well, in the offer, in the
internal space, right, we'redoing some stuff, we're shooting

(01:33:10):
right now and it's like, buthow do we show it and get people
that don't really live it tounderstand, like I have market,
as someone who doesn't really, you know they may be an
off-roader but they don't reallyunderstand which are gracing or
or whatever, and and that'swhat we're trying to do right
now.
I was like I want to, you know,I know I can make something.
That's that the market will youknow that the off-road market
black, that's easy.

(01:33:30):
It's the.
How do I get the?
You know some some Jeep guy orwhatever that you know is kind
of whatever, is like a mudballguy, but he's gonna see this
thing and you know it's likeholy crap, this is, I'm into
this, you know so.
You know, my whole goal is to,you know, grow and and reach to
the market where it hasn't beenright like we're.

(01:33:50):
We're into a point now.

Speaker 2 (01:33:51):
We're a percent.

Speaker 7 (01:33:52):
I think we're you know we're it's, it's growing.
I mean, look at the truckcounts are good.
If we could get theorganizations to get their shit
together, that'd be great.
But you know, it's just amatter of we're just gonna keep
doing what we're doing andhopefully that you know we love
it enough.
We'll just we'll do what we'regonna do dude, I agree, I
couldn't like.

Speaker 2 (01:34:12):
I support that, that statement so much.
I will say this though Trophytrucks are more expensive than
drugs, so the addiction might beflawed.

Speaker 9 (01:34:20):
So you might be more expensive, but I don't feel like
you're going down to thestreets in the trophy truck.

Speaker 2 (01:34:26):
That's true.
All right, boys, I gotta getgoing, I gotta shut down the
shop here, but so just give ashout out to you know some of
the stuff that you experienceover the weekend and people that
helped you.

Speaker 9 (01:34:39):
Like I gotta think the whole her team for giving us
give me such a awesome Truck tobe able to do what I can do,
and for the her forgive you, give me this opportunity, step
up and be able to race but thenmy brace them for a couple,
couple races now, in every race, right?
It's just childhood dream cometrue, it really is so to be able
to spend time with people likethat, with you, with Brian Moore

(01:34:59):
, right?
I don't know how much morethankful and grateful I can be
for being a, being able to be apart of it, and I gotta think my
wife, or just put it up withall the time I put off you know
I do all the prep on our own car.
So before my dad bailed I wasalmost 24 hours for the whole
week between our sign shop andget my pre-runner ready to go
down there and they put up a lotof got my three-year-old

(01:35:22):
daughter she puts up with.
So I like said I gotta thinkeveryone that surrounded me my
dad and mom, for even Helping meout all these years and get me
places, and my grandpa foreverything he's done teaching me
how to drive and give meopportunities.

Speaker 2 (01:35:35):
Dude, grandpa is always the one with the
shout-outs to drive.
Hey, what's your daughter'sname?

Speaker 9 (01:35:40):
Emma All right.

Speaker 2 (01:35:40):
Big shout-out to Emma .
Brian, big shout-out to Emma.
Yeah, it is just cool to seethe teamwork.

Speaker 7 (01:35:48):
No for sure.
I mean, that's all right, man,I feel like it's such a good
place.
Now, you know, he's saying like, and that's the thing, like,
dude, the things like I stillfeel so fortunate to be
surrounded, like in this spacenow, just of just positivity.
And I mean, dude, like you know, I mean you working together
and this team, and you know Ithink it's just a common goal,
dude, and that's that's thebiggest thing, like there's no,

(01:36:11):
you know we just there's athere's no tunnel vision.
It's like the sky's the limit, and how do we get to that point?
And, and you know, it's just, Ithink that's what I Just love
being here.
Yeah, it's been.
I'm able to open my wings and Ihave so much going on.
I'm definitely the busiest I'veever been now, which is a
blessing.
Yep, you know, I'm literallyshoot.
I've I had, you know, james'sbrother with me last night till

(01:36:34):
10 o'clock.
We're at wrapping a car that I,so I can blow the tires off,
and tomorrow for.
So, yeah, I just you know, I'mmissing tacos right now.
That's how close by we hit, bythe way, was, oh, my god.

Speaker 2 (01:36:51):
It was pretty fire and we.

Speaker 7 (01:36:52):
Josh.

Speaker 2 (01:36:52):
Metzger just commented in, this is three hot
dogs right there, but I wouldsay rather just change it to
three tacos, because Brian and Ihad a lot of tacos dude, you
know I had a lot of.
That was so good we went.
So, james, check this out.
So we go to this new taco spotI think it's called Los
Antojitos or something and weroll up and Brian's like dude,
I'm pretty hungry and I'm likeI'm gonna get three tacos, how
many you want.
He's like I'll take three to.

(01:37:12):
And then I roll up there and Istart ordering and he goes I'll
take three carne asada and threepastora, like that's right hey,
he just how many?

Speaker 9 (01:37:21):
you just said three.
Yeah three of each is what hemeant.

Speaker 2 (01:37:28):
All right, so bring Emma back real quick.
We got to ask her a question.

Speaker 7 (01:37:32):
Emma, emma, she's like, I'm out, he's out.

(01:37:58):
