Capt. (Dr.) Benjamin Lewis Solomon, a dentist assigned as a combat surgeon at a forward Army field hospital, was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for his actions during the Battle of Saipan in World War II.  A true American warrior!

Colonel William R. Lawley, Jr., flew B-17s over Europe in World War II. In 1944, then-1st Lieutenant Bill Lawley brought his shot up bomber and severely wounded crew home after a fateful mission over Nazi Germany. In a radio call to the control tower, he made the now-legendary comment that he was inbound "with one turnin' and one burnin." This is his Medal of Honor story.

Melvin O. Handrich (January 26, 1919 – August 26, 1950) was a soldier in the U.S. Army during both World War II and the Korean War. He posthumously received the Medal of Honor for his actions on August 25 and 26, 1950, during the Battle of the Pusan Perimeter. He is buried at Little Wolf Cemetery in Manawa, Wisconsin.

LtCol Jay Ziemer and Lt Joseph Sarnowski were part of the crew of a B-17 flying on a reconnaissance mission on June 16, 1943, that was ambushed by 21 Japanese Zeros. William Henry Johnson was born in Winston Salem, North Carolina and moved to New York City as a teenager.  He enlisted in the U.S. Army on June 5, 1917 and was assigned to Company C, 15th New York (Colored) Infantry Regiment - an all-black National Guard unit that would later become the 369th Infantry Regiment.
