That is something else
indeed, right?
30
RR (00:36):
years is something.
30 years for Chinook WindsCasino Resort and then the first
event for another brand neworganization.
Son Paul (00:44):
Right, yeah.
So we've Chnook Winds ofcourse, celebrating their Big 30
and a first-year celebration ofa new nonprofit in the area,
Figs.
Figs.
Yeah, a dog
RR (00:54):
rescue.
And it's not a Fig Newton.
No.
It's a shelter of dogs.
Son Paul (00:59):
Yeah, yeah.
So it's a dog rescue, and we'lllearn about that from our
partner in the Double R Show,Jana Lynn, who's on the show.
And we've got Heather Hatton isgoing to lead us off.
That's all coming up rightafter this.

RR (02:09):
30 years ago, before Heather
Hadden was born, is that right?
Maybe not.
Let's do it.
30 years ago, Chinook WindsCasino Resort came into being
here in Lickin' City.
It has been a marvelous growthperiod.
Heather Hatton (02:25):
Yeah, it's
interesting because in 1995, I
was working at the NewsGuard.
And so I was in sales at theNewsGuard.
And it was big news that thecasino was coming in and
everybody was concerned aboutthings, right?
And it's an unknown.
I think it's, you know, peopleare scared of what they don't
know.
And because we were one of thefirst in the state of Oregon,
(02:47):
that it was new.
And I think that how the tribebrought that into Lincoln City
was smart and intelligent and,you know, with the tent.
And they started off with, Imean, I remember going to an
event there that was raisingmoney and to promote it.
They were smart.
They hired Teresa Simmons astheir community relations
manager to ensure that there wasthis, you know, constant And
(03:10):
that is continued.
Yeah, yeah.
(03:32):
PR Specialist Wednesday Reedy, who's actually, you know, went
to school here for many years.
She's not a Taftite grad, butshe left freshman year and moved
to Tucson.
But she did go to Taft foryears.
And then she's back now, whichI'm excited about.
(03:52):
And then we have a social mediacoordinator, Megan Amos.
And so our sole purpose isobviously to stay connected with
the community, make sure thatwhat we're sharing is valuable
to not just Chinook Wins, but toLincoln City, and is truthful,
factual.
And we've developed really goodgood relationships with the
Portland media to ensure likewhen Echo Mountain fires or
(04:15):
COVID or anything like thathappened that they can call me,
they can call the city, theyknow that they're going to get
an answer.
And so we've become a reallygood information portal too.
RR (04:23):
I think probably one of the
best things media-wise
Chinook Winds has ever done forLincoln City and not just the
casino is the weather that is onthe Portland television
constantly.
Heather Hatton (04:35):
You know, and
what's interesting about that,
yes, I think that was a good getby Bruno Rudolph who has been
there for 20 years.
Him and I are both in our 20thyear now.
And that was a really goodcapture by him because of his
strong media relationships.
And obviously it costs us moneyto do that, right?
I mean, we do pay for therights.
But I think our value is muchhigher in that.
But it's funny because wealways know when the camera's
(04:55):
out.
Because everybody's like, hey,did you know that the camera's
pointing at a bird?
We can't see what's going on.
But we do appreciate everybodysharing that information.
RR (05:04):
But it does make a big
difference.
Heather Hatton (05:05):
It does.
I think that our constantmessaging out there and You
know, obviously our tagline,it's better at the beach.
I mean, we have a camera that'stelling everybody in the
Portland metropolitan area thatit is better and what's going
on.
RR (05:19):
You tell them that you told
them that you told
Heather Hatton (05:20):
them.
Yeah, that's right.
We're going to keep tellingthem.
RR (05:23):
Absolutely.
30 years ago, Chinook Windscomes into being, but you have a
number of people that have beenwith the casino almost that
entire time.
Heather Hatton (05:34):
Yeah, so it's
interesting.
We're putting together a 30thanniversary video.
It should be launchingtomorrow.
It's really exciting.
But I wanted to share thisinformation because I think it
is really clear to the type oforganization that we are and
what it is like to work for thetribe and the casino executive
team.
We're like a family.
And so we have two 30-yearemployees, Barbara John, who was
(05:55):
hired in May 1995.
And then we have PriscillaSwites, who was hired in
September of 1995.
So those two are celebrating 30years this year.
But we have 23, 25-year.
We have 25, 20-year.
51-15 year, 29-10 year, 24-5,and 265 after one year.
(06:16):
Still there because we are atransient population.
I mean, we do have people thatcome in and out.
But I think that's a testamentto how we treat our employees,
the value of our benefits, thatwe encourage them to be a part
of our community.
And so a lot of things that weoffer throughout the year to
them.
So I think that's a hugetestament.
RR (06:35):
I think the way you treat
your employees transcends to the
rest of the community.
Heather Hatton (06:41):
Yeah, I do.
The rest of
RR (06:43):
the community has had to
step up with benefits and the
like for their employees aswell.
Heather Hatton (06:49):
Exactly.
And I always tell everybodythat they're a marketing arm of
the casino.
Whether you are washing thedishes or you are cleaning up on
the casino floor or you're thePR manager or hotel front desk,
you're all a part of what ourmessaging is.
And so anything you're doingout there is a representation
representation of us, whetheryou're wearing a Chinook Winds
(07:10):
t-shirt or not.
And so it goes to us treatingthem properly and treating them
with care so that when they areout there, that they're happy to
talk about us and that we aremaking sure that we're informing
them.
So if somebody does asksomebody, what's going on this
week?
And they know that it'sfireworks or they know that it's
a promotion or that Jay Leno'scoming.
Those types of things, we tryto make sure that we inform our
(07:32):
staff of over 700 as much as wepossibly can.
And
RR (07:36):
what's going on in the
community.
Heather Hatton (07:38):
Right.
I mean, so we do have anewsletter that goes out to all
of our staff and then we have aFacebook team member Facebook
group so that we make sure thatif, you know, our staff has
anything that they want to sharethat's going on or, you know,
Figs Dog Rescue is doing anevent coming up.
Anything that might affect theentire team, we want to make
sure that they know about.
RR (07:57):
Heather Hatton's favorite
moment at Chinook Winds Casino
would be what?
Heather Hatton (08:02):
I would say,
it's hard to choose out of the
20 years.
I would say probably the WPBA Ithink that the years that the
WPBA the Women's ProfessionalBillions Association were there
was probably the span of yearsthat I really got to learn a lot
about PR connections you knowwith Drew Carney out of KGW when
(08:26):
I had a lot of partnershipswith him Joe with KPTV those
years and the years with JoeyChestnut getting to be in
connection with the Portlandmedia and have those media
blitzes.
Those are probably my favoriteyears.
RR (08:41):
You got them here a lot.
Heather Hatton (08:43):
Yeah.
I mean, they were here.
I'd say the last time we hadKPTV here on site.
was probably 2016 when we hadthem here for Beach Pickin' and
Brews.
But then we consistently, thatrelationship has spilled over to
Seafood and Wine Festival.
I was able to partner with themand really build up on that
partnership.
So we were able to keep thatconnection going.
(09:05):
So yeah, we've had a lot ofreally good opportunities to
share the word of Lincoln Cityas well Chinook Winds.
I
RR (09:12):
think probably one of the
biggest events was a guy come in
and jumped on a motorcycle andjumped over the Pepsi trucks.
Heather Hatton (09:19):
Yeah, that was
cool right and I remember too
because I you know people wereparking in the Safeway parking
lot I mean it can be upsettingto area businesses I mean
luckily it didn't last that longbecause it was it was an event
and then people left which wedon't like you know we want
people to stay like when thefireworks happens everybody you
know parking is taken upeverywhere and then you see this
(09:39):
mass exodus afterwards so we doas much as we can to encourage
people like hey maybe come intothe casino and have some fun you
know at the after party orthings like that so that That
was cool.
That was a big deal.
And like this year, we'rebringing the fair.
We're able to be an opportunityfor the fair to have a place to
go.
So when people need oursupport, we do everything we can
(10:00):
to help them.
RR (10:01):
We're going to take a break
and come back and talk about
this week at Chinook WindsCasino Resort right after this.

Heather Hatton is with us fromChinook Wins Casino Resort, and
we've been talking about thepast of Chinook Wins, the last
30 years.
Let's move to this week, because this week is huge at
Chinook wins
Heather Hatton (11:04):
yeah we're we're
excited we've um i'm excited
about launching a 30thanniversary video we did some
interviews with some of ourstaff who have been there for 30
years some who have been thereyou know five to ten years and
we really go over the history ofthe excitement that we've had
over the 30 years and now we'vegot jay leno and Arsenio Hall i
think that's gonna be great
RR (11:24):
that's yeah that's big stuff
Heather Hatton (11:26):
that was a
really good get and i'm really
uh excited our entertainmentmanager she's great heather
thomas
RR (11:32):
are there any tickets still
available
Heather Hatton (11:33):
they're might be
a few tickets so I would call
immediately I would check onthat but we're getting down to
the wire but yes I think thereare a few available and Jay's
been doing some interviews forus so that's been great and
we've got the fireworks ofcourse that's Saturday night and
what
RR (11:50):
time
Heather Hatton (11:51):
around 10
o'clock I mean it's always kind
of approximation and then tuneinto 100.7 they're going to be
playing music to the fireworksso you can do that and listen to
that and watch the fireworksfrom where you want to you know
We welcome people to come to ourparking lot and check it out.
This year, what's really cool, and we have not done this
before, so we have a garagerooftop party going on.
(12:12):
So we've always done that forour VIP guests, but we've opened
it up to the public from 8 to1030.
You can go up there.
There'll be food for purchase, alcohol for purchase.
You can have a good time.
It is limited space, so getthere early.
But yeah, we'll have a funrooftop party.
And there's
RR (12:27):
bands.
Heather Hatton (12:28):
Yeah, there's
bands.
They're great.
I don't have the names rightoff the top of my head, but the
one band...
is actually going to be playingat Beach Pick and a Brews.
They're incredible.
They also played at Seafood andWine.
They're a really good band.
It's really fun this year.
And then after the fireworks, there is an after party in the
showroom.
So Jay Leno and Arsenio Hallwill be Friday night.
And then after the fireworks, there's going to be a fun
(12:50):
showroom party for 21 and over.
RR (12:52):
This is a big party.
It's the 30th anniversary.
It's worth celebrating.
Heather Hatton (12:57):
Yeah, and if you
have not been in the casino
this week, you need to gobecause they've done a really
good job on decor.
We've got a really greatpromotions team they're very
creative and so they've put thattogether I know that there was
a lot of balloon blowing up anda lot of pearls being put in
because it's the pearlanniversary and there was a lot
of hot glue and stuff happeningin marketing we're guerrilla
(13:19):
marketing you know hands on it'sall hands on we gotta do it so
the decorations are incredibleI'm really proud of them and I
don't have that creative eye
RR (13:29):
no I went up last Sunday and
didn't win a car I'm
Heather Hatton (13:33):
shocked Oh,
that's so odd.
I'm shocked.
But somebody did, right?
Somebody did.
Well, there you go.
And
RR (13:38):
somebody again will this
Heather Hatton (13:39):
coming week.
Yeah, they are.
And it's fun.
We've got some hot seatdrawings on the 30th
anniversary.
So on Saturday, we've got hotseat drawings.
RR (13:47):
And a hot seat drawing is
what?
Heather Hatton (13:48):
So it's, you
know, you're playing a machine
and it's random drawings.
So you just got to be playing amachine.
That's all you got to be doing.
You can be doing minimum bed ifyou want.
Just have some fun during thattime.
And then we've got, of course, the cupcakes.
We always have cupcakes onFriday, Saturday, and Sunday.
Around one o'clock, there'll behanding out the cupcakes for
our celebration.
RR (14:06):
Birthday celebration.
Heather Hatton (14:07):
Yeah.
RR (14:08):
People like to have a good
time working at Chinook Wings.
Heather Hatton (14:12):
We do.
In fact, today at four o'clock,we have team member
appreciations every month.
So we celebrate our teammembers with food, some fun
giveaways, birthday people get,if you're celebrating a birthday
month, you get a special giftfrom us.
And so we've got our big picniccoming up in July.
It's right after Beach, Bacon &Brews, and we raise money for a
(14:35):
local charity every year.
And so this year, which I'msurprised we have raise money
for them yet is the Eagles Lodgefor their Thanksgiving baskets
or their Christmas baskets thatthey do every year so Whitney
Groth and her family they arebig and she's our IT department
their family always does a lotduring that time and we've just
never had them do it, so we'regoing to be raising money for
(14:57):
them.
RR (14:57):
Now, I realize this event
does not tie into the 30th
anniversary, but it speaks tocommunity relations, if you
will.
And coming up, the LincolnCounty Fair is coming to North
Lincoln County for the veryfirst time that I know of.
And we'll be at the casino.
Heather Hatton (15:13):
Yeah.
They're a fair.
I know.
Isn't that crazy?
I mean, you know, they came tous because they don't have a
place.
And so, and we've got a bigplace.
And so the rodeo will be outback, and that's where the
tables will be and within fourdays we're doing beach bacon and
brews I promise everybody thatthe it's going to be all cleaned
up we've got a great crew andso yeah so they are we're coming
(15:34):
in and then we've got the bandsout front and the vendors out
front in the parking lot wheresurf city usually is and and
then yeah our entire place isgoing to be taken up by that and
then you know beach bacon andbrews is just a few days later
which is another big communityevent and hill meat company is
our new bacon sponsor and we'reexcited that they're going to be
joining And Les Schwab's ourdesignated driver sponsor, and
(15:57):
we appreciate them coming back.
Taylor & Taylor, TLC, they'reall coming back for Beach, Pick
& Brew.
So we're excited that we'reable to continue that, but we
were happy to be able to youknow, give the fair somewhere to
be.
RR (16:09):
And mid August, we're going
to have a car show again.
Heather Hatton (16:12):
We got the car
show again and we've got the
sound off, which is raised.
I don't remember how much moneyexactly last year, but like, I
think 18,000.
I think the most we've raisedis 26.
And so it's always a lot of, alot of money raised.
And I always tell people, makesure you check the website,
check our Facebook.
If you don't like the sound, leave town for just one day and
then it'll be gone.
(16:33):
And the angels will be making aton of money.
RR (16:35):
And know how important it is
to Angels Anonymous and to the
community that needs that money.
Heather Hatton (16:40):
Yeah, it's such
a huge, I mean, especially for
one day and the Angels doesn'treally have to do much, but work
that one day, two daysactually.
And so I think it's a reallygood opportunity for them to
make money.
I mean, years ago, my sister, when you guys first came into, I
had to use it for my sister andit was a very simple process,
but it helped her through atough time.
RR (17:01):
Heather Haddon, Chinook Wins
Casino Resort.
Thank you.
Happy anniversary to you thestaff, and the tribe.
Heather Hatton (17:09):
Yeah, thank you.
RR (17:10):
It is a wonderful time.
Don't forget to join in thecelebration.
Please do.
Celebrate good times.
Come
Lehto (17:17):
on.
Come on.
It's better at the beach.

word for it.

One person wrote, the servicewas friendly and efficient.
Another writes, La Roca hasbecome one of our favorites
because it's authentic Mexicanfood.
The first voice
RR (17:55):
on a Double R podcast,
Double R show is this voice.
The last word is this voice aswell.
Jana Lynn is here.
Welcome.
Jana Lynn (18:04):
Thank you for having
me.
The
RR (18:05):
very first voice on the
program.
Jana Lynn (18:08):
The first and the
last.
RR (18:09):
The first and the last.
Jana is actually here to talkabout dogs.
Jana Lynn (18:14):
Dogs is my specialty.
RR (18:16):
It really is.
And we have an event that isout to help save dogs.
Jana Lynn (18:23):
Yeah, so I am here on
behalf of Kyla, who is the
founder of Figs Dog Rescue.
It's our first local dog rescueand It was just founded this
year.
In 2025, she became a 501c3, anonprofit dog rescue.
She is a licensed vet tech atOcean Lake Veterinary Clinic.
(18:44):
And her, as well as myself, have seen over the years what
dogs come in that need care thatmaybe aren't getting the care
that they need.
could get in a loving home.
Some dogs that come fromshelters or bad situations where
they've just kind of beenneglected.
Maybe the owner doesn't havemoney to pay for the veterinary
(19:05):
needs or whatnot.
So her rescue is primarilyrescuing dogs out of a kill
shelter in Fresno, California.
RR (19:13):
Out of a kill shelter?
Really?
They actually put all of theseanimals down?
Jana Lynn (19:18):
Yeah.
They're a short time frame thatthey get to stay in there.
They come to the shelter forvarious reasons.
So maybe they have an injurythat the owner couldn't afford
veterinary care for.
Or maybe they're a stray.
Somebody kicked them out on thestreet and somebody finds them
as a stray.
What are you going to do withthis dog?
They take them to a shelter.
And from there, based on...
Their adoptability, which goesinto many different factors,
(19:42):
right?
Like, what's their temperamentlike?
Are they good in a home withkids?
Is the shelter overcrowded?
But would
RR (19:48):
you know that just going in?
Or how do you discern that?
Jana Lynn (19:53):
If the dog comes in
and doesn't have somebody
dropping it off to tell themthose things, they would view...
The shelter sometimes doestemperament testing, but they
also just kind of observe themin the shelter.
But the problem with that is...
When the dogs get into theshelter, they are really shut
down.
They completely go inward.
You know, it's a big, loud,scary place.
(20:16):
They're not with their people.
A lot of barking, a lot ofechoing.
Sure.
And so a lot of dogs will justshut down in there and then
they're deemed not adoptable.
And so then they get on theshort list for euthanasia.
RR (20:28):
So how do the dogs wind up
in Lincoln City?
Jana Lynn (20:32):
Well, that's another
part of the problem is that they
do need transport.
So most rescues, and this onetoo, has people that volunteer
to do transport.
They go from California, pickthis dog up that's in a
short-term home.
Once the rescue...
We call it pulling a dog.
Once they pull a dog from theshelter, it goes into a
(20:53):
temporary home.
So there's temporary fosterhomes.
And then from the temporaryfoster home, a transport will
pick the dog up and bring it upto the rescue here, which is
where they will get veterinarycare, spayed and neutered if
that's what they need, dentalcare.
A lot of them do need dentalcleanings and extractions and
things like that.
Some of them do need moreadvanced veterinary care.
(21:15):
There was one with a broken legthat needed an amputation.
RR (21:17):
Somebody's got to pay for
all of
Jana Lynn (21:19):
it.
Yeah.
And that's
RR (21:20):
where the event's going to
come into play.
Jana Lynn (21:23):
Yeah, that's where
the event is coming into play.
There's a huge cost to all ofthis.
A lot of stuff is out ofpocket.
It's been out of pocket, andthat's where this fundraising
comes in, because you can onlyafford to do so much, right?
So we have to rely on thecommunity to help with that.
RR (21:39):
Now, what is the fundraiser,
when, where, and times?
Jana Lynn (21:43):
Yeah, so this
fundraiser is being put on at
the Red Roof.
Thank you to Brooke Price.
It's going to be on June 28th.
That's a Saturday.
And it's from 2 to 5 p.m.
She's called the event Nibblesand Dribbles for Kibbles.
RR (21:58):
That's cute.
Jana Lynn (21:59):
So Kyla will have a
few dogs there that are in her
rescue now that are adoptable.
And she will also be taking infood donations, you know,
blankets, towels, crates, thingslike that that all can help
assist in a rescue.
But we will also be having araffle.
So there'll be raffle basketsyou can purchase there.
RR (22:19):
Heather, how and just left
here, but before she left, she
gave you a bunch of items thatChinook Wins is going to kick
Jana Lynn (22:26):
in.
Yeah, Chinook Winds is going tokick in two passes to the Beach
Breakin' and Brews Fest, a giftcertificate to the Rogue River
Steakhouse for $75, and aChinook Seafood Grill gift
certificate for $75 as well.
RR (22:41):
Very good.
And again, the event is goingto be out at, you mentioned
Glendon Beach at the Red RoofRestaurant.
And that's easy to find.
It's on the east side of OldHighway 101 going into beautiful
downtown Glenian Beach.
Jana Lynn (22:58):
Yeah, the Glenian
Beach loop back there.
RR (23:00):
Yeah, don't miss it.
Again, going back to the dogs, the rescue of the dogs, this
intrigues me why somebody wouldgo to that extent to rescue an
animal that probably is close tobeing put down to begin with.
Am I right?
Jana Lynn (23:16):
Yeah, I think most
dogs that end up in a are ones
that cannot find a home or aredeemed unadoptable by the
shelter because they don't havestaffing or time to take to give
the care that they need to getthat dog to come out of its
shell.
RR (23:31):
Is there a breed that is
more pronounced in the shelters?
Jana Lynn (23:36):
Oh, I mean, it just
kind of depends on the era.
That's why I have all theChihuahuas because Chihuahuas
were a very popular breed thatwere in shelters for a long
time.
I think a lot of breeds aremisunderstood.
People get them based on theircuteness and they don't
understand the behavioral thingsthat go into taking care of a
dog like that.
Pit bulls are another one.
But Friggs has a wide varietyof dogs across the board.
RR (23:58):
And again, I assume that you
screen the people that are
going to take the dog.
Jana Lynn (24:03):
Correct.
She does take applications forthe dogs and then checks
references based off of whatreferences they leave and kind
of tries to fit the best homefor that dog.
It's not necessarily aboutfirst come, first serve.
It's about what home is goingto be best for that dog so that
they don't end up in that samesituation again.
RR (24:21):
Nibbles, dribbles, and
kibbles on Saturday, June 28th,
2 to 5 p.m.
out in Glendon Beach.
Anything in particular that ismore important that you need
than anything else?
Jana Lynn (24:33):
No, I think just
funding is what she needs right
now to be able to do theveterinary care that the dogs
need.
So even if you're not able toattend the event, you can go to
her website at figs, F-I-G-Z,dogsrescue.org.
Where does that
RR (24:47):
name come from?
The figs.
Jana Lynn (24:48):
The figs is her own
dog.
We call them foster fails whenyou get a dog from a shelter or
wherever and you're going tofoster it and then with the
intentions of finding it a homeand then we call it a failure
because we get attached and weend up keeping them.
She got her own dog fig from arescue in California, pulled her
the day before she was set tobe euthanized and she saw the
(25:10):
transformation that that dogmade in her home, being in a
loving home, how she came out ofher shell and that sparked her
interest to do this.
RR (25:18):
Janet, thank you for
everything that you're doing to
help with the event as well.
And hats off to her.
Jana Lynn (25:24):
Yeah, she's doing a
good job.
Thank you guys for having usand helping promote this event.
Bobs Beach Books (25:29):

Dark Skies Town Hall meetingcoming up on Thursday, June 26th
(26:18):

Suite number 306.
That is an exciting time.
Son Paul (26:25):
Yeah, so we're talking
a lot about this in the last
few shows here when trying toconnect with the night sky.
And this is just one way tolearn a little bit more about
that, what that might mean forour community.
Again, on Thursday, June 26thfrom 6 to 7.30 at the Outlet

And we have the parade, thefireworks at Chinook Winds, but
(27:45):
fireworks are not going to befor sale in Lincoln City this
year.
Son Paul (27:50):
Or for use, too.
Or
RR (27:52):
for use, absolutely.
Absolutely.
We are becoming a free city ofthe fireworks, not only for the
benefit of the animals that arein the area, but the people, and
it's just not a necessity.
Son Paul (28:08):
Yeah, they always say
pets and vets, right?
That's always one of the thingswe hear around the Fourth of
July time.
So this year, instead of anexplosive display, we're going
to have some drones out there.
200 of them.
200 drones.
200 drones on July 4th overSluts Bay.
RR (28:26):
Featuring a choreographed
display of 200 drones
synchronized to music againstthe night sky.
So that ought to really bespectacular.
Yeah, looking forward to it.
Yep.
And of course, the Sluts BayMusic Festival is forthcoming.
We'll have more informationabout that on down the road.

(29:09):
is available now.

RR (29:12):
Will that be up down from
Snug Winds again?
Son Paul (29:15):
It's going to be out
in front of the Roads End State

So we've done the Sand ArtContest before and we're merging
it with the the full Art on theBeach as well.
So it's just going to be oneevent this year, July 26th, 8
o'clock, I think, start time.
So you can register your team.
I'd like to see a lot of teamsout there.
$20 gets you a 20 by 20 footarea to create your own sand
