(00:00):
This is the Drive In podcast. Take one.
(00:25):
Howdy Doody. Welcome to episode 4710 TDI.
This is Doctor Rowe on the horn to start.
Per usual and as always, I'm joined by my Co host, my best
friend and James Gunn believer. Ricky Flex.
(00:47):
How are you my friend? Superman is here.
Are you excited to get the bold predictions right this time?
This is the summer of Superman, I have decided, and that is with
the Fantastic Four. That is with the Jurassic World
rebirth. The year of 2025, the year of
(01:07):
the blockbuster, is going to be dominated by Superman.
That, that's a huge statement. Superman coming out this
weekend. Before we hopped on, I, I was
giddy, I was smiling and you were like, what, what's going
on, doc? And I said, this is a historic
podcast. This is 1 where we're being
(01:28):
introduced to the DCU. We're giving our bold
predictions for Superman, but inthe same episode, we will also
give our initial reactions for about 20 minutes or so to James
Gunn, James Gunn's debut film for the DCU.
So bold predictions. We'll hit a couple stories in
the check up and then boom, initial reactions for Superman.
(01:52):
Ricky Flex. We had a lot of, I guess outside
noise when it comes to this movie.
And I, I don't know about you, but this might have been the
most important Rotten Tomato score to ever hit the Internet.
And I don't know about you, Ricky Flicks.
(02:12):
I was on pins and needles. I felt like honestly, it could
have had that green spot next toit.
It could have had that red tomato, could have had that
certified fresh. We still knew there was going to
be a bunch of Hubble blue. When it came down to this Rotten
Tomatoes score. What was your reaction when you
see that it's certified fresh? 85% for critics, 96% for
audience. Were you surprised by these
(02:34):
numbers? It's not a crazy take that this
was the most consequential Rotten Tomatoes score release of
all time. Consequential.
I think Oppenheimer slash Barbiewas up there.
I think Top Gun Maverick was up there because those movies were
so box office. Like, are these movies going to
bring back the box office? So those were a couple.
(02:55):
I think we're very consequential, but here it's not
just for this movie. It's for a franchise that movie
theaters and a. Huge audience.
A loyal, impactful audience not just to a blockbuster and box
office, but to livelihoods, DCU,and multiple films and
franchises down the line within the universe of the of DC.
(03:19):
This was so important. Like.
So so. Important and I know we're
certified fresh. I know we're at 85% right now
and in the back of my mind I'm thinking Wonder Woman 1984.
This is a very similar story, but I have confidence in James
Gunn, like you said off the top.I do have confidence in James
Gunn in his back work. I'm sorry, background in his
(03:41):
previous work and this rotten tomato score is doesn't confirm
anything but it's nice knowing. That the 85% certified fresh,
the 96% audience score, which honestly I was more nervous
about than the Rotten tomato score to see if everyone will be
accepting of this because this is a little different for
Superman, for DCU, and again, the James Gunn effect to start
(04:03):
the DCU. Would audiences be on board with
this post? Zack Snyder against Snyder
versus, so does Snyder versus Colt.
Maybe a hijacking Rotten Tomatoes?
No, not going to happen. 96% audience score.
This was the most consequential Rotten Tomatoes release ever.
This has there's been a lot of tension that's built up between
James Gunn fans and people that believe in the DCU, that believe
(04:26):
David Corn sweat and want this movie to be good versus the
Snyder heads that restore the Snyder versus Colt and this.
Was like the. Shot her around the world this
rotten tomato drop and once it had the 91 percent that first
came up. There were the.
Gun fans that came out with the hashtags, they were sticking it
(04:47):
to everybody. They said, I told you they were
rubbing in the face of the Snyder heads.
And I, as usual, the Snyder heads, they fight back.
Like I usually like to stay off too much Twitter when it comes
to the release of these movies because of spoiler reasons.
But I had to kind of get a gaugeon where people were.
And like I said, this was setting off a civil war on X,
(05:09):
you know, and the the Snyderheads, they tried so hard.
They were basically putting out fake reviews for this movie,
lambasting it. And they are review bombing it.
They are saying it is a mess. They're saying there's too many
characters. All things that you would kind
of tell from the. Trailers they were.
(05:30):
Acting like they saw the movie, you didn't know what critics
that actually saw it or not. They had a blue check mark, but
that means nothing nowadays. And to like see them kind of try
and recover from this, It's kindof hilarious to watch.
It's great to watch these guys look at every like positive
review on Rotten Tomatoes like this is considered positive.
(05:52):
Three out of five stars is considered positive.
This and that they are nitpicking so hard And I think
when that score came out it kindof ended the war.
At the same time, it's like, hey, like critics like this and
the 96% is what really is telling the popcorn meter.
The audience that loves this movie makes me excited for later
(06:13):
on when we react to the pod, react to the movie.
Ricky Flex Where else? I I mean, we, we could go right
into the predictions for this. I think that'd be a natural
transition for us. And I, we have kind of revamped
the bold predictions. Instead of doing 10, we're
looking at narrowing it down to five.
(06:34):
We're also having the initial reactions on the same episode.
So I think this is a nice littlechange up from what we usually
do. Ricky Flex, It's always good to
kind of spice it up a bit. Yeah, just a little.
Half and half, you know, insteadof doing 10 bold predictions a
huge pod that drops on a Friday instead.
Again, some some people may havealready seen the film, so the
(06:54):
bold predictions doesn't really play it too much.
They have a little bit for both.Right.
People that see it on the weekend, the majority, but then
also for the people that see it on the Thursday or Friday, and
they could just right after theywatch the movie could pop this
up, pop this review on. So it's kind of for both sides
of the argument. Exactly, right, exactly.
You're playing both sides. And we will have a full on
review Monday that will be must listen and that'll be going
(07:18):
through spoilers. The one at the end of this
episode will not be hitting spoilers.
And on Monday, we'll be kind of previewing the upcoming DCU
slate. What are the ramifications of
Superman? What comes after?
What's next for James Gunn potentially?
And we anticipate we'll have ourDC correspondent on another
guest that will join us for back-to-back weeks.
(07:40):
So that's very exciting. Hopefully, hopefully.
We seem to have locked him down. But you know, I will see if he
commits to the schedule. Ricky Flex, full predictions
here. Now that we don't do 10, we have
to go down to five. I still think we have to keep a
staple and that's going to be box office.
(08:02):
I think we need to have that Ricky Flex.
I know you always prepare for it.
Do you have a prediction ready in terms of box office for
Superman? Of course, of course this is the
one prediction that you could count on that I did ample amount
of background research. Most of the time I might hit
rate is really good. Thunderbolts I got bullied into
doing a little bit extra than I wanted to.
Ended up losing. Won't let Jax bully me into that
(08:24):
again. Actually I no promises I I peer
pressure is bad when it comes tothe box.
Office I'm always hopeful I'm always an optimist, but OK
Superman there's Rotten Tomatoeslike that helps a lot right and
I'm I've already been looking atmy AMC app checking on the
seating the seating charts everysingle Thursday Friday's booked
(08:48):
everything's booked that's a great sign.
Usually you don't really see that unless it's a Marvel film.
Love seeing them right now let'sfocus on the worldwide box
office. OK, these prediction totals OK,
I think we could say 600 is a conservative prediction. 700
would be OK, That's that would be great.
(09:12):
I'm going bold prediction now. I think we're going to hit 800.
I think we're hitting 800 worldwide.
Now, let me just give you a couple facts here.
OK, so opening weekend domestic box office projections at least
130. OK?
Some are saying it could be 150.The highest I've seen is 175,
(09:34):
which would be absurd. That would be DC's biggest
opening by far. Domestic.
Domestic. OK, that would be absurd.
All right, bigger than Jurassic World Rebirth and Signaling 800
is definitely in, definitely coming about.
OK, the DC movie with the biggest opening weekend box
office. Can you guess it?
(09:55):
The DC like we're talking DDCEU.DC in general, but yeah, you
could say DCEU. Wonder Woman guessed it.
No, no, no, no. Like, are you talking Batman?
Batman versus Superman, the two fries assets, right?
2016 Dawn of Justice, that was 166 domestically opening
(10:16):
weekend. OK, now if that hits that
number, we are looking at at least 750, OK, But we we we just
keep diving in here. OK, let's look at Guardians of
the Galaxy Volume 3, last James Gunn movie that had a full
theatrical release. All right, not thinking The
Suicide Squad, all right, that had a global opening weekend box
(10:38):
office at 282, including 120 domestically.
OK, so again, like this is goingto be bigger than that.
All right, the lowest projections are bigger than that
and Guardians of the Galaxy 3 worldwide.
What was 845 million 845 All right, and yes, Superman more
(10:59):
American story don't have a Chris Pratt in the lead.
It's more of an unknown. It's not the 3rd and iteration
here. I I I think the Superman is
going to be different. I think this rotten to me score
helps. I think James Gunn helps from
that experience in the guardians.
All right. And then my last point is the
Batman link back to March 2022. What did that do with the
(11:21):
worldwide box office? The first movie really that was
like post COVID full theaters blockbuster event.
The Batman made 772 million worldwide.
So we could say it could beat the Batman or we could say 800
and be even bolder. I think both are especially
bold, but I'm going to leave thethe option to you where we pick
(11:43):
800 plus or just beats The Batman worldwide.
I had I knew this was coming. I knew like you spearhead this
prediction every time and I was going to leave it up to you.
What the what the I guess the key number would be and I kind
of said it will it beat the Batman?
You know, can it be a movie withthe most popular DC character on
(12:08):
film right Would be Batman monetarily and Batman came out
also 2022. A little bit still COVID.
Effect, you know, I think that'sa low number from what The
Batman could have done. I think The Batman, if it came
out a year later, potentially $900 million film, honestly, and
(12:29):
that says a lot for a movie thatwas kind of leaning on that R
rated side, potentially has thathorror vibe to it, violent
adult, kind of themed. This one more kid oriented.
I am in favor of saying that this will beat The Batman at the
box office. That's what I'll say.
It'll be over $772 million I think with the Rotten Tomatoes
score and all that jazz. The only caveat, obviously it's
(12:54):
the elephant in the room is thatit has to make a lot within the
first two weeks. The first weekend is going to be
super important, building into momentum for the second weekend.
We got a pretty big landscape for the second weekend, but we
know what comes up that third weekend.
Marvel, Fantastic Four first steps.
Do you think it can it with thispositive potential word of
(13:14):
mouth, the critics score? Can it still compete and make a
substantial amount of money in that third weekend competing
with Marvel? Couple push backs here or no,
Sorry. A couple things I'm going to
agree with you on in a couple weeks, Fantastic Four is coming.
That is going to be a monster that could that looks like it's
(13:34):
going to break 800 million. That is going to be crazy.
And that's a huge star-studded cast that everyone knows versus
here, not so much, right? This is really relying on the
character and also James Gunn, hence why James Gunn is so
active in this press tour that we kind of talked about
previously. So you're right, he needs to do
well in these first two weekends.
But let me throw this at you, Jurassic World Rebirth is going
(13:59):
to be in a second weekend, this upcoming weekend.
So you would say, OK, similar audiences, not exactly the same,
but that's similar. OK.
I think if the projections hit like 17175, then holy crap, then
yeah, like this movie doesn't matter.
What else is up. This like, people were seeing
this movie. All right, So that's a good omen
for the next weekend and going in going forward.
(14:21):
And I think this movie looks rewatchable.
I think you mentioned the bet the Batman less kid friendly.
I know there's rumors about thisone and some stuff going on in
Superman that maybe it was like kind of darker than people with
thought and like what the showerpromotes.
But on paper, I think parents are going to take their kids to
this movie. Parents took their kids to
Jurassic World. They were popping in my theater.
(14:43):
They will see this in Superman. And also why it's going to be
rewatchable besides like the comedic timing.
Superman American, whatever whatnot.
This movie's two hours and 9 minutes.
It's not. This is not The Batman's two
hours, 56 minutes. This is a shorter film.
James Gunn kept it condensed. Even with a bigger cast, I think
this will be rewatchable and people might go back a second or
(15:05):
third time to see this. So I I still am confident that
it will beat The Batman. More digestible this movie than
The Batman and also kids they'llprobably want they're probably
eating up all this merchandise man.
They're probably going to love crypto.
They want to see crypto on screen again.
They want to see Superman on screen again, right.
They're probably going to love the justice gang and I, I, I do
(15:29):
think it's going to beat the Batman.
So I think let's put that down as #1 defeats the Batman at the
box office. Good financial start for the
DCU. I'm going to go into, I guess
more into like the actual movie, what we're going to see.
And a huge part of the promotionof this movie has been crypto.
And James Gunn loves a animal ora creature playing a pivotal
(15:53):
part of the story. So I'm going to jump to, I think
crypto makes the play of the dayin this movie.
I think Crypto saves the day. It could be Superman struggling
at the end of this movie. You need someone to put like the
heroes over the top. It's not the Justice Gang, it's
not Mr. Terrific, it's not Lois Lane, it's not Superman himself.
(16:14):
I think Crypto makes like almost.
I guess I would call it a game sealing play in this movie.
I think that's what I'm going tocall it.
It's the game sealing play. Crypto gets the moment, the
heroes moment at the end and people it will just stack on the
love people already have for thecharacter.
I think that with this director wants to give that shine to
(16:35):
right Crypto boom. That's my second prediction.
I like this. I like this.
I'd also had this on my list here.
Let me put devil's advocate for a second, because, you know, I
love to do that. What if people are saying, oh,
he literally focused his last film, Guardians of the Galaxy
Volume 3 on the animals and saving Like Rocket is basically
(16:57):
the main character of that movie.
And he's kind of like the animalguy.
He throws his own dog as Crypto, not like the Crypto in the
comics. Look, he has his own dog models
for Crypto. So it's like all right, like
he's just again, this is a JamesGunn stick.
Maybe he has to divert or it's origin movie for Superman.
Superman has to save the day because in his first movie
(17:19):
people have to invest in him. Not crypto and not like the
stick, not just James Gunn stickof animals, but also the stick
of oh like. Baby Yoda and like.
The we talked about Jurassic World rebirth like the baby
dinosaur, like there's this. Established floor though, like
crypto exists, he wasn't just added out of nowhere like he
exists in comic books and this is the most comic book.
It's being described as the mostcomic book Y comic book movie
(17:42):
ever made. Right, I'm just playing devil's
advocate. Like I said off the top.
We also have a. Superman, who's been getting it,
seems like the trailer gets his ass kicked a lot.
You know, maybe he can't do it on his own and maybe that's why
he need crypto. Yeah, I, like I told you, I had
on my list. I, I like the pick.
I, I just was trying to think ofsomething else to kind of, you
(18:04):
know, think of reason not to do this one.
OK, yeah, well, I didn't do thiswith the the box office.
I was like, yeah, Ricky, let's do it.
And you're like, I put out crypto.
You're like, well, let's see whywe shouldn't do.
It. Like what the hell is that?
Dude, I'm over here wearing my Superman shirt.
I got my corn sweat curl going for this and this is what you're
(18:25):
doing? You're going against me at this
point. That's OK.
Devil's advocate, good podcaster.
I get it. There you go.
Yeah. All right.
So crypto saves the day. Yeah.
I guess movie ceiling moment, you know, it's we put some over
the top. I don't know how you put that
into words. I think I'll leave it to you
with the graphic, but I think the audience understands what
(18:46):
I'm saying. So while you want to go with
your next prediction. OK, I think we need to talk
about Ultraman. That's a big topic and it's a
big who is Ultraman? And I'm open to what we want to
go with here. All right?
Some are saying a clone of Superman, Lex Luthor clone
(19:08):
perhaps could be a hybrid of Bizarro, right?
So I think in that last show where we saw that crazy similar
like looking like a Bizarro withthe laser vision or laser eyes
and black hair, pale huge Superman like structure
(19:29):
abilities. So what are we thinking here for
Ultraman? I think that should be one of
our bold predictions. I, I, I am thinking that they're
going to, there's going to be a reveal and he becomes the main
villain in the third act of the movie.
That's what I think. Maybe it's, it's coming from
somewhere else. We talked about these pocket
dimensions that are going to play a role in the movie.
Is there going to be someone that comes out of one of those
(19:50):
dimensions, becomes a villain atthe at, at the end of the film?
I think potentially pocket dimensions play a part in this.
Maybe Lex Luthor grab this Ultraman from the pocket
dimension, right? And basically put in masked him
as Ultraman and I think it then it's going to be Bizarro.
I actually had a prediction thatBizarro will be the main villain
of this movie by the third act, and it's going to be played by
(20:14):
an actor we do not know. Can I let me throw something at
shit here too? Because I was thinking like as
as well, like a third act spin on this and I'm like, what if
it's something that we don't even know?
And what have they told you about Lex Luther throughout this
two years of this movie is that he's not the main bad guy,
(20:34):
right? So he's not the one pulling the
strings. Someone else could be pulling
the strings. Someone that's smart.
Could you have? A brainiac situation.
Wow, that's that's the big move if they go.
I know that would be bold. That would be the boldest take
we have. I was also thinking the Ultraman
(20:55):
character, if you want to go back to him, he maybe he goes
against Lex Luthor by the end ofthe movie in some kind of
capacity and becomes the villainat the end.
OK, yeah, I I think Brady X2 bold maybe save him for another
movie, but I was thinking that. So do you want to say that
Ultraman crosses Lex Luthor and and and becomes the main villain
(21:18):
in the third act? You can say that.
What do you think? Do you want to say that or do
you want to go with bizarre? I think those are two options.
That last trailer showed some type of being that is fighting
Superman, someone that wasn't wearing the Ultraman mask.
(21:38):
And you also got that still of Ultraman shared by James Gaunt
of him getting looking beat up, hair sticking out of his helmet.
It makes me think this could be a Bizarro situation because this
is a non traditional look for Ultraman compared to what he
looks like in the comics. He doesn't wear a mask.
He's basically an evil version of Superman from another world.
I think we're getting that character from a pocket
(22:00):
dimension, hence like the Ultraman type of title that he
has and we find out it's Bizarro.
I think it's a combination of two pretty iconic Superman
villains and it ends up being Bizarro in the third act.
OK so help me word this. Because Bizarro is also Bizarro
is also not. The character itself is not easy
to control. He's very like high, like he has
(22:22):
a lot of emotions. He kind of acts in a very
uncontrolled manner. So you could, I could see that
type of character going against Lex Luthor if that's the case.
So I'm going to say Bizarro's the third is the main villain in
the third act. Do you keep it simple as that?
OK, I like this too. Because Bizarro.
(22:44):
The problem with Bizarro and just comic Superman comic lore
is he's just not a big enough villain when it comes to brain.
It's too dumb, like he can't be in an entire movie without any
other support. He's more of like a really good
supporting henchman. Like henchman is not the right
word, but I can't think it's like if Kingpin hired hobgoblin.
(23:08):
You know, like the hobgoblin. Is as strong as Superman.
That's the thing. He needs someone else to be the
brains and he be the Bron. That's why it's like a really
good when you pair him with Lex Luthor.
That's why I think he's in the movie.
Yeah, I can't think of a good reason, but what I'm trying to
say is Bizarro. I feel like James Gunn wants
because we've never seen Bizarroon the big screen.
He wants to incorporate this huge Superman villain.
(23:31):
He is because Superman again, wetalk about does have a huge A
list cast of villains, but he wants Bizarro is one of those
like Oh well known ones. So it's he wants to incorporate
him some way in like a potentialtrilogy and perhaps I would
guess, but he can't be a main villain in one of these movies.
How about he's one of these guysthat can kind of take over the
movie but isn't like the overallarching guy throughout a 2 hour
(23:55):
movie because he just. He honestly can't be that guy
because. He is dumb.
Do you also? So if we're putting this down,
Bizarro is going to be the villain by the third act.
Do you you don't want to put this down the prediction.
Do you think Cornswat's playing the evil version or do you think
it's another actor like I was talking about that we maybe
don't know is in the movie that is like, oh holy shit, that
(24:15):
character is that actors in thisand boom, he's the villain.
So I remember we talked about this when the IT got really or
it got shown in the last trailerand potential bizarro right?
And my thing was David Cornswat and his first ever leading role
is playing Superman. And then you tell him he also
(24:35):
has to play another character. For me, that feels odd.
And like also this character would not be similar to
Superman. Obviously an ability it
abilities, yes, but in every other capacity he wouldn't be.
He would have to play. It would be a completely like, I
don't know, a big task, I would say.
And I'm gonna say Davis Kornwickcan't do it, just that we've
never seen him do it. And to give him even more
(24:56):
responsibility on top of that seems like that would be kind of
odd for James Gunn to do so I I would say.
Different person. OK, yeah, I would say different
person too. We don't have to include that.
The prediction. So we're officially putting down
Bizarro be the villain of the third act.
Boom. That's our third prediction.
So it's now it's my turn to makeone and I maybe we do something
(25:19):
minor like like I have a couple. So one not minor I guess.
Next movie for the DCU is Supergirl.
Dudes, the Supergirl make an appearance in this movie and
there's two post credit scenes. Will they be consequential?
I don't know. Will Supergirl be name dropped?
(25:42):
I think absolutely in this movie.
Another thing I was considering, will they name drop Batman in
this movie as a prediction? That's something we can talk
about later on. But Supergirl next movie in the
DCU, you probably will have someconnection of this movie to that
movie. We haven't gotten much from
(26:04):
Supergirl. We we got that picture of Millie
Alcock sitting in the chair reading the comic book.
We haven't seen her really in costume.
There was been a couple set photos that you're really
blurry. I think you might get a hard
launch of Supergirl at the end of this movie leading into
Supergirl. Now it's not Woman of Tomorrow,
but Supergirl. Completely agree.
(26:26):
I, I've been saying this for a while, Super Supergirl is going
to be in this movie in some capacity, whether it's a post
credits scene or actually in themovie.
And now with that movie being the next DCU movie, and also
Superman being like kind of likethe, the translating hero to
Supergirl, she has to be in thismovie, especially because we
(26:47):
know she's on set. You know, she's better than the
suit. So we know behind the scenes in
production, it can work, timing could work, everything could
work. So she's going to be in this
movie. It's just is it going to be
actually in the movie or as a post crediting one of those two?
It's. Hard because James Gunn's
(27:08):
devaluing the post credit from his promotional.
Comments. So I want to say she's going to
be in the movie, like I've been saying for a while.
And maybe it's, it's almost, youknow, how some, you have some
movies that have a post credit. That's not a post credit.
You know, it's like the last scene of the movie, but it's not
a post credit. I think it might be one of those
(27:29):
situations where it's Superman saves the day and then here
comes his cousin who he hasn't seen ever and introduces
herself. I don't know how long
Supergirl's been in this world, right?
The world has been around. Superman's been around for three
years. Maybe it's the first time he's
seeing like his cousin, like Supergirl.
I think that could be one of thefinal scenes of the movie before
(27:51):
you hit the credits, so I'll saySupergirl will appear in the
movie. OK, you know what I was thinking
for post credit scene too, so you should do that.
I have a couple for this. I was thinking brainiac.
I don't know if they'll, becauseJames Gunn seems like really
(28:12):
he's playing a little coy about a Superman sequel, what it looks
like. When's the next time you'll see
Superman? Will he be in?
Super World. Not one but two post credit
scenes. James Gunn also if we can recall
for Guardians of the Galaxy volume 2 he had five post credit
scenes. Only like 1 of them was
consequential. I would not be surprised if it's
just like a crypto post credit that means nothing, honestly.
(28:34):
Or maybe it's a Guy Gardner postcredit that means nothing.
I I'd be willing to put that it's not a great bold
prediction, but I'd be like Guy Gardner has a is in a post
credit scene. You know, it seems like
something he would do, but. What if it was an OK so now
let's just let's just be fanboysfor a second here.
Things you would like to see. Brainiac I think would be cool
(28:54):
post credit. I think leaning into lanterns
would be a cool post credit ATV show.
Obviously that would be kind of weird, but still that would be
kind of cool. What?
What? You think Lobo?
Lobo. I could see a Lobo.
It's why else would they report like a year ago that Jason Momoa
(29:15):
was going to be Lobo? There was rumors for a while,
there was rumors for a while. He was in this movie.
Right. So maybe because that was so
long ago again around productionof this movie, not during the
VFX year but the year before, maybe he was on set to do a post
credit at the minimum. That would be a bold prediction.
(29:36):
Lobo and the Post credit. That would be bold.
Let's put it down. Let's put a yellow next to it.
How about that? OK.
You're typing them in. Lobo as a post credit.
OK, yeah, let's put that as a yellow.
But I was also thinking, you know, I was watching on
Instagram, Instagram Live, they had out like the they were
(29:59):
broadcasting the premiere and there was an actor at the
premiere that is not in the movie.
And I don't know if I should saythis.
I don't know if he's in the movie.
I haven't seen a spoiler of it. But there's an actor who's been
rumoured for a character in the DCU that was at the Superman
premiere. You know who I'm talking about,
Ricky. Any idea?
(30:20):
No, but I have a guess. A guy who seems like he was made
to be in a James Gunn movie. Who's your guess?
Oh, well, my guess is going to be Alan Richardson, because he's
been rumored, like you said, like this guy's been rumored to
be. So I was like, oh, Alan
Richardson. My next hint will be that this
person's actually been in a Marvel movie.
A lesser popular Marvel movie. Let.
(30:44):
Me think for a second here, thisguy seems like he could be in a
James Gunn movie and he's been in Marvel.
Not a very notable Marvel character at all.
Oh, OK, Lesser movie makes it difficult because now I'm
(31:06):
thinking like it's hurdles. Now I'm thinking, yeah, I'm
thinking that level. Yeah.
Camille Nanjiani. Yes.
What character would he play? Booster Gold.
He's been ruined for a long timeto play Booster Gold.
I had a prediction that Kumail Ninjani will be Goose Booster
Gold in this movie and join the Justice Gang or whatever they're
titled by the end of this. But he's getting his own show.
(31:29):
Is he, maybe this is how you launch the character.
Maybe you don't make, maybe he'snot a part of the Justice game,
but like maybe he makes a cameo in the movie.
He was at the premiere. I don't know the comic book
lore, as in I thought he, I thought he was a solo hero.
I I might be. Yeah, I'm not saying he's a part
of the gang, but I think he could make an appearance in the
movie with the prospects of him getting a show sooner rather
(31:52):
than later. His comedic beats, I think
matcha James Gunn movie and alsothe other people that are
involved with future DCU projects were at the premiere.
Do you see Andy Musketi was at the premiere, right?
So the guy who is supposed to bedirecting Batman the Brave and
the Bold will see he's at the premiere.
So almost like to me confirms that he will be directing that
movie. But it makes me think Kumail
(32:14):
might make his debut as booster goal before his show in
Superman. That's a big one.
I, I, I think we leave that off,but I like it.
I just wanted to throw it out there.
OK, let's go. I like that casting though.
Yeah, I think it, I think it works perfectly for a guy who's
like a hero, but he's not a hero.
He thinks highly of himself. Everyone kind of looks down upon
(32:35):
him. He doesn't really have these
powers, but he's, you know, a serious.
Hero and like. No fun type of.
Hero, but he's not necessarily, you know, high end actor
capital, a actor. So how many predictions do we
have? 4 technically.
If we include Lobo 5. OK.
So let's go with like maybe something else that you have
(32:55):
like really believe in before wekind of narrow this down.
I have none of those left, but Ido have one here that is kind of
a staple of our bold predictions, and it's a death.
Wow, OK. We always throw a death in
there. And there's there's a, there's
(33:15):
an obvious one to me. Oh cool.
Metamorpho. But he can't because he's a kid.
Yeah. I was trying to think of
something bold with Metamorpho and I was thinking, oh, is does
he do the save the day moment? Because like he clearly like
that divide in Metropolis that'screated from him and that's why
(33:37):
he's probably in prison from Eris or whatever Argus.
And then when Superman's in prison, he's the one keeping him
hostage basically, or in prison because of the kryptonite on his
arm. So does he do do like a saving
play and like break him out of prison basically?
But I think that's too predictable, not bold enough.
(34:01):
I don't know. I don't know what else you got.
I don't like that one that much.Yeah, again, not on my list.
I just thought about it. The one I have that I don't
believe in. But again, I was trying to think
of who's going to die in this movie and that we don't know
from like the trailer, right? And we always have to do this.
And I don't really see any of these heroes dying.
(34:23):
I don't think we can have a death.
One, they're setting everything up, but there's got to be some
sort of death on here. And if it's just a robot who, I
forget the name already, then whatever.
But you know what I was thinking, oh, what was James
Gunn saying today or whatever? What are the three moments that
don't need to be seen again in acomic book movie, right?
(34:44):
And I was thinking, oh, what's atypical Superman truck?
Papa Kent dies. Can't will not.
No. No, no, Hear me out, Hear me
out. I don't think that James Gunn
would do the same thing off of that quote today.
But. I don't think you could have a
Superman movie with both parentsalive.
I'm saying Martha Kent dies. OK.
(35:08):
Ma can't. Yeah, Ma can't either dies or is
dead. Like I, I, I that's like, again,
we think back all Superman lore, whether it's 1978 Superman,
whether it's Smallville, whetherit's Man of Steel, it's always
Paul Kent, James Gunn, someone literally today is saying we're
not doing the same shit. You know, I think he changes it
(35:30):
up. And also when you look at the
trailer, could be Paul Kent and and Clark are like really close.
Maybe they're closer because hismom died.
Again, it's a bold prediction. I was just thinking, Martha
Kent, dead death. Wouldn't it be crazy?
It's a bold prediction, but it'snot crazy.
Seems like this is the most humane Superman we've had.
(35:51):
It's highly described, right? A lot of emotion on his sleeve
as opposed to the cavil Superman.
There has to be something reallyimpactful in his personal life.
We've seen Paw Kent die in everymovie iteration of Superman.
I'm OK if we say Ma Kent dies. I don't think it's that bold.
I think that's just a good prediction.
But if we do that, why are we taking Lobo off?
(36:13):
I think we take Lobo off or we take out Supergirl appearing in
the movie because honestly you could have so many post credits.
It could be Peacemaker like the evil Peacemaker.
Potentially even season 2 that walks out of the pocket
dimension. It could be some other character
walking out from the pocket dimension.
I do like Lobo. Because he's been rumored for
(36:35):
the movie or Superman and he's in Supergirl.
So that makes me think that he could be appearing in a post
credit or at the end of the movie somehow or he is makes a
quick cameo to kind of just proof of existence type of
thing. So I kind of like Lobo in a post
(36:58):
credit over like Supergirl appearing.
Wow over Supergirl you Lobo getsseen before Supergirl.
Cuz Supergirl's a huge character.
I think you had Zaslav talk about Supergirl being one of the
pillars of the DCU and if you'redoing that, definitely stealing
some of the show from Superman'salready so much, I guess
(37:22):
commentary on all the heroes in this and they're all like C list
or less heroes that are joining Superman.
But all of a sudden you add Supergirl and you're talking
about her being a pillar of the of the DCU.
It might take away some, you know, steam from corn sweat.
So I like Lobo as post credit. OK I I I like that last part but
(37:43):
what if I said oh then Supergirlis in a post credit?
Well, James, that's the thing. James Gunn has talked about how
he devalues the Post cred. So I'm like Lobo, he's not even
the main villain I think of Supergirl.
So I don't know. It could be just a lot.
To put in a post credit, it's not even the main villain in
the. Next, I don't know if we
mentioned post cred just say Lobo appears.
(38:04):
It kind of like covers our bases, whether in the movie or a
post credit. OK.
I think that's bold enough. Bold enough to say Lobo you.
Think it's higher likelihood that Lobo's in this movie The
Supergirl or appears that's whatyou're saying?
Yeah. OK, all right then.
All right, I'll ride with you. So Lobo appears.
(38:24):
Supergirl out. Yeah, I don't know what?
What do you think? Like dude like what are your
thoughts? I think Lobo's not big enough to
be a post credit over Supergirl.I think they're truly trying to
build up this universe. Clearly this is the first movie
and they even though James JamesGunn is being coy about this
(38:45):
post credit, we've heard nothingabout the Supergirl except that
it started and they took they changed the name to just
Supergirl and they took away woman of tomorrow.
So I think they're going to theythink this they know this
movie's a banger. They're going to hype you up
from the next movie next year. They're they want you to buy in.
That's why I think it's more likely Supergirl, the actual
movie who is about we see nothing yet we see nothing.
(39:09):
That's where I'm like, I think they might show us something
here, whether it's a post creditor an appearance or something.
That's where I'm like kind of like, oh, I, I, I would lean
Supergirl over a Lobo where I really do.
I, I actually like both of them.I do like, I like your take with
Lobo. But if I did have to pick
between the two, I'm like Oh if Lobo's not even the main bill in
Supergirl, why would he get a post credit and or at least a
peer and Superman? Lobo put it as a bonus.
(39:33):
What do we have that makes? Six.
OK, bonus. I think 'cause since we cut it
down from 4:50, just make one that seems more unrealistic.
Make it a bonus. And then were there any ones
that you've considered terms of predictions?
I'll list a couple I guess. Yeah, you go.
I I don't I, I the last one I had was brainiac somehow like
(39:56):
post credit. But I think I think you're
right. I I don't want to put that I I I
retract that statement. A thing I want to talk about,
it's not really about who appears, but I don't think we're
in a single flashback in this movie.
Like I don't think we're, it's almost similar to what like The
Batman did. They didn't give a single
flashback for the Batman. They put you in the world.
He's existed for two years. Same thing with that Superman.
(40:16):
He's existed for three years. His heroes have existed.
We're not flashing back to anything with Ma or Paul Kent's.
Him getting him, you know, his experiences first being a hero.
I don't think that we're going to get a flashback, and that's
rare because James Gunn movies always jump around timelines.
They always have flashbacks. I think James Gunn, along with
that prediction I had was no, nonoticeable needle drops.
(40:40):
And I think they want the score to do the work for this movie.
And that's also a staple of James Gunn, him saying I have to
change up my style a little bit more important of a character,
bigger legacy. I can't take too much control,
right, of something that's so hallowed and so not hallowed,
but hallowed, you know, so important to a lot of people.
(41:01):
I can't get too funky with it. That is, I love that one.
That is unbelievably good. I think James Gunn always does
something funky like that with the music soundtrack.
Obviously Guardians of the Galaxy 1 and 2 and even 3 great
soundtracks. And in the trailers in those
movies, he has unbelievable songs going through them.
He didn't do that with Superman. Not a single song.
(41:24):
Not a single song. I do love that.
I will. Get rid of Lobo one.
Just get rid of it. Add that one.
Yeah, that, that I, I love that my I, I will like, I will
disagree on the flashback though, because like you said,
James Gunn, I feel like relies on the flashback a little bit.
And to go along with our Ma Kentdeath, I think we might get a
(41:47):
flashback to like post Ma Kent might be already dead and we
might get a flashback to Ma Kentor something.
And like David Corn sweat in that T in the trailer looks
younger when he's conversing with pot Ken.
So it might be right after the Ma Kent death.
So I'm not in love with the plastic.
I think it's a good take, but I am not on board with the plastic
(42:08):
just in case because I I think it's a bold prediction, but I
just I don't think I'm on board with that because I think what
they said, the James Gunn history and also what we see in
the trailer and the other prediction that we have with Ma
Ken. OK.
Replace Lobo and we're going to say no needle drops.
Flashback wise, I'm OK leaving that off for sure.
I think the scene where you havePruitt Pruitt, I forgot the
(42:31):
guy's last name, guy's playing podcast, him embracing corn
sweat. It's it could be after the death
of Ma Kent that that could be the scene.
So that's why it makes me like your prediction that Ma Kent
dies in this movie. This is the other one I had.
I said Batman, name drop. He's existed.
I think in this world at this point, Superman's been around
(42:53):
for three years. Batman.
The next movie is Brave in the Bold.
He's a Robin, so it's Damian Wayne.
So he's been in this world. I think there will be a name
drop of Batman. Oh, you actually think that like
or is that like just to take? No, it's I think it's going to
happen. I think they're going to mention
Batman, but also. Wait, what?
Sorry, I'll just stay on this for a second.
(43:13):
Big big thing online this week was the soundtrack got released
or whatever, the scores, whatever for Superman and that
one with Batman, like it soundedlike the Batman score.
I don't think he's in this movie.
That's not what I'm saying. But that was a big topic online
this week and I thought that waslike taken way too far.
Yeah, I, I, I, I can't wait to see what that aligns with what
(43:35):
scene in the movie. And I think it's going to be far
from like anything like The Batman and having a machete
muskete at the premiere. It shows me the Braven bold is
happening. We are getting a different
Batman. We are not getting patents in in
the DCU. I'm, I'm fairly, I would say I'm
90% sure 90, yeah. I would be shocked if Batman.
(43:57):
Like I would be. Dumbfounded if Batman was in
this movie because. Not in it.
I'm not saying he's in it. Yeah, right, right, right.
Because that would be the first thing we talk about when we
leave the theater is holy shit, Batman was in this not Oh my
God, that was a great movie or Ilove that Superman, your bench,
your cornerstone franchise builder and Superman.
(44:19):
You're not talking about that. You're talking about Batman in
the movie for a second. That's why like I kind of lean
towards not have him not even being mentioned because me and
you will be like wow, like Batman, Batman, Batman, like
like in Musketeer who's going tobe the Batman.
Like I don't even want him mentioned in this but I could
see him being mentioned but I I wouldn't like it.
Work at the Daily Planet, there's someone probably name
(44:42):
dropping Batman. What's going on in Gotham City?
You're talking about happenings of the world.
Bruce Wayne could be easily mentioned.
You can just talk about Star City.
You could talk about Blood Haven.
I think you're going to get namedrops at different parts of the
DCU at the Daily Planets. That'd be the place to do it
without sounding to like we're building universe for the first
time. You need to be aware of these
(45:02):
places. Most place that could sound
natural in the dialogue would bethe Daily Planet.
Speaking of the Daily Planet, I was re watching Superman 78
today. I think if I was make a really
if we're doing 10 bold predictions, I would say there's
going to be a play on Lois Lane misspelling things.
I don't know if you watch Superman 78 recently, the Margot
(45:23):
Kidder version of the character doesn't know how to spell.
So I hope that in this movie youget a lot of misspelling from
Rachel Brosnahan, Superman and or Court Clark correcting her,
Jimmy Olsen correcting her on her spelling.
That'd be a nice little like tribute to the 78 version.
I think that's a great point. I think there'll be at least one
with that. I, I think actually, if I had to
guess, there'll be exactly one time it happens.
(45:46):
But they you already see like some of the, you know, OS of 78
or Christopher Reeves of Superman, like even with the
interview. And the, you know, balcony, you
know, in Superman 78. Exactly.
So they're they're already doingthese outs right.
So I think that is actually that's a great prediction, not
bowl, but that's a great like 1 to one thought, you know,
prediction. Any other ones you have before
(46:07):
we wrap the preview up? No, I would just say like the
Ultraman thing. I think like we kind of ditched
that and just went bizarro. That is a big topic.
I, I, I think because that's going to open up like how are
like, is this movie going to be reliant on using these, what's
it called? The Ultimate Universe's
dimensions. Pocket dimensions.
(46:28):
Pocket dimensions. Thank you.
Are we going to be too reliant on the pocket dimension again?
We'll do our reactions shortly. Are we going to be too reliant
on those, Are we? Is the DCU going to be too
reliant on those? Like again, the Superman, the
depth of the villains isn't at that much there.
Is there going to be too many villains that we take out of the
pocket dimension. There's one movie when there's
already so many different characters.
A lot of questions with the pocket dimensions and Ultraman
(46:51):
itself. And last thing with that is like
if it is a clone of Superman, then you're doing that in the
first movie. Like that is a lot to do.
Like when the second and third with Lex Luthor because Lex
Luthor is like how is he going to even compete against Superman
if he already brings out like probably his best like combative
which is a clone of Superman to beat Superman.
(47:14):
It's going to be very up in the air.
Like I, I'm not sure exactly what's happening.
If Ultraman is going to be a huge reveal, who it is, is it
Bizarro? Is Bizarro coming from a pocket
dimension and it's not Ultraman. Is Ultraman taken out sooner in
the movie than we think? And we talk about potentially
Ultraman crossing Lex Luthor. Is Ultraman actually Bizarro?
(47:35):
That is the hottest take. Like we don't know that is so up
in the air. And I love that about the
promotion movie because I feel like we've seen so much of this,
yet we still don't know much about who is working with Lex
Luthor here, who's behind the Ultraman Mask.
And that's been a problem with Superman, particular Batman VS
Superman and other DCU movies and superhero movies in general
(47:57):
with their promotion, their giveaways.
And here it seems like we reallyare unsure.
Yeah, which I think is great. And like what goes along with
that and kind of like with this villain narrative that I've been
talking about with Superman justin history, is they created a
new villain for this movie in Hammer of Bravia.
And it's like. Is he new hammer of Bravia?
I I believe that is a brand new character and like there's some
(48:18):
speculation where it could be Super Girl, There's some
speculation that's the clone of Superman.
Like there's so many things up in the air, but that one clearly
looks like it's going to be a small, small, small, small role.
Smaller than Ultraman, smaller than the Engineer, smaller than
Lex Luth. There are all these other
villains in the movie, but does that have a, some sort of
important reveal maybe at the end of the movie or something
like that? I think again, we'll see, but it
(48:40):
looks like you have something tosay.
Well, I was just doing some research.
Hammer of Boravia is not is a newly new character.
It's not established in Supermanlore.
But I don't know if you saw the clip today of the Hammer of
Boravia. Did you see that?
So there's a scene that was released.
It's the Hammer of Boravia beingcontrolled by Lex Luthor, you
know you're saying. Nobody's in the suit.
(49:03):
Potentially nobody's in the suit, maybe some maybe a
henchman of Lex Luthor, but Lex Luthor is basically controlling
the suit from like his, you know, Watchtower at Lexcorp or
Luther Corp, whatever they're calling it in this movie.
He's controlling the movements and like the direction that the
hammer Boravia takes. So I would.
Hate. Like again, the one time or the
(49:24):
first time that we reduced this from 4:50 and like we get these
like extra predictions, right? Or like of like, oh, Hammer
Borivia, oh, there's no one inside.
It's just like they're like robot basically.
And like Lobo, oh, he's in this or like, you know what I mean?
Yes, makes me also think like with him controlling the hammer
or Borivia in that scene, there's a good chance Ultraman
(49:46):
does cross Lex Luthor by the endof this movie.
How so? Because he's on in control of
the hammer of Bravia. Lex Luthor's a guy likes to be
in control of situations. You know, he likes to be the
smartest guy in the room, likes to be, you know, the guy who is
making the ultimate call. And Ultraman is potentially
rivaling the power of Superman. He's like, why am I taking
(50:07):
orders from a guy who's weaker than me?
I, I can see that potentially happening.
And Lex, maybe the temper gets the better of him.
Maybe he talks down to Ultraman and then boom, he crosses him,
tries to take down Superman, boom, here we go.
The third act. I could see that happening too.
But though, can you want? Can you read our five full
prediction plus our bonus beforewe wrap today?
So #1 worldwide box office beatsthe The Batman Superman will
(50:31):
beat the Batman the worldwide box office 772 million.
Crypto makes a defining play, saves the day.
Still working on that wording. 3Bizarro will become the main
going in the third act, not justin the movie becomes the main
bone in the third act. That's what we have. 4:00 we
(50:52):
have yeah, we have Super Girl isit appears in the movie.
That's what we have right now. And five, we have Ma Kent dies
or is dead in the movie and thenwe have a bonus.
There will be no needle drops, no major needle drops in this
movie. I think it's pretty good.
(51:13):
I think something else that I'lljust throw out there is a
potential something that maybe the hammer Abravia doesn't work
and maybe the hammer of Bravia gets destroyed.
Who do we know does jump in a suit at the face Superman Lex
Luther with Lex Luther jump in asuit by the end of this movie.
(51:33):
To do with this early like as inthis early in the a trilogy,
hopefully a trilogy that seems like a lot, but I do love that
take. OK, just want to throw it out
there before, oh, you can't leave anything on the field.
You know, you got to leave it all out there.
So those are our bold predictions.
Any last comments for a preview of Superman before we go see the
(51:54):
movie? I'm hype, Doc I, I, I got, I
made the bold take that this is the year of Superman, the year
of the blockbuster, the year of Superman.
I, I think, I think we're, we'reready for this.
I, I think Fantastic Four will be great.
You know, I think, I think some other movies that are great, but
in a year defined by the blockbuster, I think Superman
(52:17):
might not make the most either. Fantastic Four might beat it,
Wicked might beat it, but the best overall movie along with
the box office will be Superman.I'm excited to see Corn Sweat
really, and a lot of these reviews, they're highlighting
him and how his Superman differs.
And I was watching Superman 78 like I said, and Christopher
(52:40):
Reeve is so good. He is so good as that character,
the defining iteration of the character.
How does David Corn sweat differ?
Can he take up the mantle from Henry Cavill?
Can he improve upon it? And can he kind of live up to
the high expectations of being the core of the DCU?
And then also, I can't wait to see the surrounding parts of the
(53:01):
DCU. Like as a nerd, I like seeing
the mentions of Gotham City, Blood Haven, you know, Star
City, whatever it may be, other heroes that are name drop, the
ones that do appear. I can't wait for that.
And something else. Ricky.
I I did want to say the justice gang.
I I didn't, I didn't know if we were going to have a prediction
for them. And I could see them splintering
(53:23):
by the end of this movie. You know, I could see Mr.
Terrific and maybe splitting away from Guy Gardner, who's
like a Dick and Isabella, Merced's Hawk, Hawk girl.
Those two are in the Peacemaker trailer for season 2, but I
don't think Mr. Terrific is. So I can see Mr. Terrific
splintering away. Maybe a spin off movie for him
(53:44):
afterwards or something. A lot of.
Praise for Eli G Don't even Ed Gaichy or Ed Sorry, Ed Gaichy.
Gaichy. If you, if you never say that
last name before I say it, I will always get it wrong.
I don't think I'll ever rememberthat.
But there's been a lot of praisefor him in this, you know, So no
wonder he might not be in the Peacemaker Season 2, because
(54:06):
maybe he's only for theatrical releases.
You know, they might be saving him only for the big screen,
which I love. That's a good omen for this
movie. So that does it for a preview
for Superman. Let's hit a couple checkup
topics before we go see the movie and then hit our initial
reactions. Very hyped up quick hitters.
This is like an express checkup style.
(54:27):
Today Movie news Godzilla -1 director Yukashi Yamakazi has
agreed to visit DC Studios. Ricky Flex James Gunn probably
talked about how Yamakaze maybe having discussions.
This just goes to DC. What James Gunn's doing is
different than Marvel. Marvel looking for usually
(54:49):
younger indie directors, how they can have a little bit of
their imprint on a movie but kind of morphed to the Marvel
style. It seems like James Gunn's like
I just want the best directors possible that want to be a part
of this universe. Not us asking, but like they
have an idea and they bring it to him.
Like having James Main Gold, like wanting to do Swamp Thing,
to have Luka Guadagnino wanted to do Sergeant Rock, a rumor of
(55:13):
Darren Aronofsky doing like a Plastic Man movie, you know,
something like that. Almost like what Marvel didn't
do with Edgar Wright. Like Edgar Wright going and
saying I want to make Ant Man. I write an Ant Man movie, but
then you change my Ant Man movieand then kick me off the movie.
They are the opposite. If it was James Gunn running
Marvel, he takes Edgar Wright, he makes his movie.
You know, that's the difference between Marvel and DC.
(55:36):
I can't predict what Yamakaze has up his sleeve.
Anything what that Yum you wouldwant I guess from the Godzilla
mice. One director.
For me, I kind of would want to see him do ADC, not ADCU movie,
but I would like to see him do like ADC elseworlds and kind of
tackle something like relativelyunknown hero because I feel like
(56:02):
yes, Godzilla and we all know Godzilla, but like the story
behind Godzilla -1 was kind of like a great backbone behind
obviously the great action scenes, right?
And I know like I know our DC correspondent, Big Mike big into
like the Godzilla Superman lore and like overlap in the recent
comics. I know nothing about that.
And I think that's just cheesy comic books.
(56:24):
I want to stick to something more substantial so I would like
to see him do something elseworlds full control, kind of
put his spin on whatever he wants to do.
So again, DCU would be great, but I feel like he'd be best in
Elseworlds as no matter what, just get him.
When you have the Godzilla -1 director going to talk to James
Gunn, you immediately think of the comic series that just came
(56:46):
out, like the Justice League verse Godzilla.
And James Gunn's also said like, hey, we have a sequel sort of
plan for Superman, but he's alsonot calling it a direct sequel.
He's been very tight lipped about it.
Can you imagine if that story was like Superman versus
Godzilla? You know we already have.
In this movie. Exactly.
And we already have Godzilla versus Kongs across over, James
(57:08):
Gunns also said. We're trying to do something
that like no superhero studio has done before.
Would it be like bringing in a Godzilla to established world?
I think it's too early for that. You have to establish the world
first on its own. Not bringing a Godzilla.
I think it's a little ludicrous.I appreciate the creativity and
imagination from our DC correspondent Big Mike.
We're hoping to have him on for Monday's Deep Dive review.
(57:30):
Moving on, check up a new Night of the Museum Movies in the
works. The film will be a new story set
at the museum with all new characters.
This news comes from Deadline. Ricky Flex How bad is this movie
going to be? Who cares?
Who cares about this thing? I just googled it.
Do you know that there's a animated night at the museum
that just came out like a few years ago?
I think I did hear that and I never, I never watched it.
(57:51):
It seemed like it'd be very muchlike in the vein of like those
PBS shows you'd watch in elementary school.
Looks like not Cyber Chase, but there there's other ones you
would travel back in time, see historic things.
Seem like it'd be a good educational PBS show.
That's a good call. But yeah, I these things make
money, dude. The three combined theatrical
releases over 1.3 billion. There's a third one.
(58:13):
Yes, yeah, that third one made 363 million.
Worldwide. Is that after the death of Robin
Williams? 2014 so yes, but again, like
here like you would have to do afull reboot.
I guess like Chris Pratt would be a perfect like Ben Stiller
replacement, right? And you could do a couple other
(58:35):
like Robin Williams, like you could do a couple other like
big. But you need like I, I, you need
someone that's not as athletic. You need someone that's like you
could believe is a bit nerdy, but.
Like that's probably. That's like him in Jurassic
World where it's like he's a trainer of a dinosaur kind of
made sense where he wasn't like a a sattler or like, you know,
like like a whatever Sam Neil character.
(58:57):
It, it, it was just like a little bit like, you need a
nerdier person for that role. I like Ben Stiller, like he
wasn't a nerd he didn't know anything.
He just needed a job for his kidright?
Support his kid and his kid was big into.
The I guess you're right. Yeah, he was just a He's just
think it would. Have helped if he was a little
bit more. Athlete Kevin James or Paul
Blart, you know, type of thing. God that would be automatic.
(59:18):
Like 14% Rotten Tomatoes at 26% audience score.
But whatever, these things make money.
Who cares though? Big Adam Sailor.
Do it. Adam Sailor should do it.
Netflix deal. OK, moving on.
Dude. Do Messiah, which we thought was
going to be the title of being adapted from Doom Messiah.
(59:41):
Doom Part 3, the third film fromDanny Villeneuve.
It's going to be called Doom Part 3.
We initially thought it was going to have the entire movie
shot with IMAX cameras. It was reported a couple days
ago that has since been revised.Only some of the movie will be
shot with IMAX cameras. Imax's CEO said that the whole
movie was going to be IMAX. Not the case.
(01:00:02):
It's going to be called Doom Part 3 instead of Doom Messiah.
I don't think this is a huge story.
Ricky Flex. I just wanted to bring it up
because this is Doom. But we did bring up full IMAX.
What movie is doing that? It's the Odyssey.
Going to be the first ever movieto do that from Christopher
Nolan. Cosmo Jarvis was going to be in
the movie. He will no longer star in
(01:00:23):
Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey due to scheduling conflicts.
Who replaces him? Logan Marshall.
Green source comes from Deadline.
Ricky Flex saw a very funny tweet that I think said what
everyone else was thinking. You get 1 Tom Hardy replacement
replaced by another Tom Hardy replacement for a Christopher
Nolan movie. Isn't that what these guys are?
(01:00:44):
Yeah, that's exactly what it is.We talked about it when Cosmo
Jarvis took the role that he's going to be in the Tom Hardy
role. He's off, by the way.
Scheduling conflicts. What are you freaking scheduling
conflicts when you're in a Christopher Nolan movie coming
off the best picture? Especially in the honesty.
I have questions for his agent. It better not be Shogun and it
better not be the Stalin biopic.Probably not, right?
(01:01:07):
Has to be right, because that's the leading role.
It has to be for a leading role.Probably the Stalin biopic.
That's honestly a good sign for the Stone biopic, by the way,
something that we've been kind of hesitated on.
Or just how small? This role is.
Yeah, that could be that too. But then Logan Marshall Green,
good for him. You know, he was just in that,
like Jason Bateman, Tara Negriderton, Christmas Flight
(01:01:30):
movie crap. Yeah, he, he, he.
I hated him that movie. Carry On.
But. I bought stock after upgrade and
I might still own some so this is great.
I know it's probably going to besmall but you know what?
Take note for Gazma Jarvis doinga little role for Christopher
Nolan. The Odyssey.
(01:01:51):
Just enough screen time where maybe you can get your career
back on Jack track to not do Netflix movies and 4th 5th bill
rolls what was what. Was it called the host or the
invite that Logan Marshall Greenwas in?
Do you remember watching that? It was like a dinner movie.
Like goes over to his ex girlfriend's house.
Oh, I'd never watched that, but I know exactly what you're
(01:02:12):
talking. About I think I thought I
watched it with you. I think I actually watched it
with Big Mike and his good buddyEric.
Intrusion for the invitation. The invitation.
Invitation. Batshit ending.
Batshit ending. I'll watch that.
Put that on the on the streamingrec sometime.
I think that'd be 90%. On Rotten Tomato, John Carroll
Lynch is in that movie. I love John Carroll Lynch.
It's it's like, it's like a, it's a, a group that gets
(01:02:34):
together. He is invited I think by his
ex-girlfriend. He goes there and he notices
like the vibe is very weird and I'll leave it at that.
And he's an outsider of the group for sure.
So watch the invitation. Is it streaming right now?
Do you still have it up? It's on J Man's favorite
streaming service, Tubi, and it's on Peacock.
(01:02:55):
Watch the invitation batshit ending, all right, That doesn't
put the check up. It's time.
Let's go watch the movie Ricky Flex and then let's have our
initial reactions for James Gunn's Superman.
We've seen it. The DCU debut on the big screen
(01:03:16):
has come. The Drive In pod has seen
Superman. Ricky Flex and I, we saw it with
our parents, we saw it with our uncle, we saw it with our
cousins. It was a family affair at our
local AMC. Ricky Flex, how are you feeling?
Leaving Superman. Relieved.
I feel relieved. Dr. I.
(01:03:37):
It's a Yeah, That's exactly whatis a It's a sigh, you know, I'm
so sorry. Not a sigh.
It's a You could breathe now. We were holding in our breath
for how many years? Ever since, you know, DCEUNS,
we're like, all right, what's going to happen next?
We're holding our breath. Who's going to run the ship?
Oh, it's James Gunn. We have hope, right?
And what is he going to do? Like, oh, he's going to do
Superman. He's going to write it himself.
(01:03:59):
He has David Corn sweat, someonethat's never actually LED a
movie before. He's there's like again, we have
so much at hand here. Is there going to be a brave in
the bold who like there's not even a Wonder Woman yet.
Remember we thought that there'sa chance that Henry Cavill was
going to come back. Remember when we thought that
there's a chance that Gal Gadot was going to come back?
Remember there was a chance thatthere was Rock Johnson was going
to stay in the DC DC universe. No, we figured it out and this
(01:04:24):
is more oh, breath, take a breath here.
We figured it out after seeing this movie.
I'm confident that we're on the right footing.
Relieved is a great word and I think a more appropriate one is
there's hope. There is hope as Superman would
inspire and what James Gunn has instilled with DC fans.
(01:04:47):
This is going to be. Obviously, we both like the
movie. This is going to be about a 15
minute conversation. Spoiler free reactions, full
review with spoilers, in depth. Deep dive coming Monday.
But we had to hop on because of this prehistoric release and
something that we're very passionate about.
(01:05:07):
I told you beforehand, this is probably what this was probably
my most anticipated movie since Oppenheimer 2 years ago.
So I had a lot riding on this. I had such high hopes for it
and. I, I I.
Really enjoyed it, like it was afun movie.
There was a lot of nerves, I guess from a lot of people about
(01:05:29):
James Gunn making it is going tobe over infusion of comedy.
Is it going to be campy? Is it going to be too much of A
turn from what we got from Zack Snyder?
Is it the right director for Superman?
And. I got to give.
Props to James Gunn, it seems like he has an understanding of
the Superman character, but he also did not apologize for being
(01:05:53):
for being himself in this movie. This movie was.
Unafraid to like have its tone drastically different from the
Snyder verse, drastically different from the Batman, and
it wasn't afraid to be goofy, campy, but also would make you
feel fuzzy inside by the end. I adored it.
I will go see it again. It's interesting because the
(01:06:16):
group we were with was pretty torn and our uncle and our
cousins weren't as big a fans ofwhat we saw on the big screen.
Our dad liked it, our mom loved it.
We were a family divided, I think afterwards, and I
anticipate that's going to happen for this movie.
Ricky flicks, would you be? I know it's 83% Rotten Tomatoes,
(01:06:37):
it's critics score, it's got 96 audience.
But I think this movie will be more divisive based on how goofy
it could be at times. I think that might rub people
who adore the previous version of Superman the wrong way.
Yeah, I, yeah, It's interesting how you say on the car ride
home, you know, I'm jamming out a little bit and I was deep in
(01:07:02):
thought trying to figure out what I was going to say here and
I that was something that I cameacross is that.
True. Blue Superman fans I think are
going to be divided and I think I am divided myself.
Where I think they did a lot of great job playing homage to
Christopher Reeves and the priorSuperman iterations playing the
comics and other times they didn't, OK, they just did not.
(01:07:24):
And I'm a little torn on that myself.
And I'm not saying I'm the biggest Superman fan, even
though I have a poster in the background, you know, and the
background of this picture, you know, also I have a poster of
The Batman. So I'm a little bit torn.
But at the same time, it's like I look at the audience score 96%
and I look at maybe just a general movie going audience.
(01:07:44):
Yes, maybe they're going to be alittle bit confused if they're
not in the lore if you don't listen to this podcast on a
weekly basis. And we're keeping you up to date
on the behind the scenes of how they make this movie and what
not and the rumors and what not.But yes, there's a lot going on.
I thought since we are in the know a little bit, I thought it
was doable. I thought maybe seem some things
felt rushed. But at the end of the day, like
(01:08:06):
you said, this is a James Gunn joint and this is a very
uplifting Superman's superhero story.
And I thought it worked. And that's what matters because
the DCUEU has not worked. This definitely worked and was
uplifting and especially by the end and this is a movie going
audience pumped your fist in theair at the end type of movie.
And I think honestly, the DCU just needed a win out of this.
(01:08:29):
They needed a win. I'm not saying this is a
generational movie, but this is definitely a movie where it's
like, that's a good movie, man. And it works.
And you might not love everything about it, but you
can't say it's bad. That's where like I kind of was
like fighting a little bit with our cousin, our our uncle,
perhaps. Like, I don't think you could
say this is a bad movie. You might not like some things
(01:08:49):
about it and it could be polarizing at times or divisive
and you might not like some of the things they did.
But this movie works and it's a solid movie.
Like at at the minimum in my opinion, I think it's minimally
a solid movie. Yeah, that more than solid.
I I think minimally die hard Superman fans, they might be
divided on it a bit because of messing with the lore a little
(01:09:13):
bit. And also Superman gets his ass
kicked a decent amount in this movie.
And I'm being light about that and maybe more so I would say
definitely more so than any other Superman movie.
And it's a start. And by the third act, like you
start to see what the Superman'sgoing to be in the future for
(01:09:35):
the DCUI think David Corn Sweat.I think he put his own spin on
the character that I don't thinkis the definitive version of
Superman, but I think it's separates himself from like the
brooding version that we get with Henry Cavill and the near
perfect human being slash alien that we get from Christopher
(01:09:59):
Reeve. And then you obviously have
Brandon Routh kind of just doinga Christopher Reeve imitation
course. What I don't think really did a
Reeve imitation here. I think he made it his own, I
guess a general, a new Superman for a new generation.
That's what it kind of feels like and I.
Course, what I thought was. Good.
I'm excited to see how his character develops in the
future. I do think that were there were
(01:10:22):
several other performances that were pretty stellar in this
movie. And I, I, I think Lois Lane,
Rachel Brosnahan, I think she's going to have her own spin on
the character. I think she's going to be a
definitive Lois Lane of her own generation.
I think the scenes of her and Clark Kent very good.
I wish we even had more of thosescenes, if anything.
(01:10:44):
And I think Nicholas Holt as LexLuthor, my guy, you knew, you
knew he was cooking when he was doing some evil shit in the
third act. And our dad gave the double bird
to the bald headed Nicholas Holefrom this third to last row in
the theater. That's how you know my boy Nick
Hole is cooking. He's making the audience hate
(01:11:06):
him to death. I thought Lex was diabolical in
this movie and I think the last one I just wanted to call out is
Mr. Terrific. Mr. Terrific I think was a
complete scene stealer in this. I 100% could see a spin off with
him. Ed Gate G Total redemption from
X-Men first class. Those are the performances I
really want to highlight. Ricky Flex.
Any thoughts on what we saw fromthese crop of actors?
(01:11:28):
I thought the performances across the board, I thought for
the most part were great. I thought Lex Luthor was a
standout. I thought Lois Lane was a
standout. Ed Gaichi.
Again, just because you said it and I could imitate it, and
that's why I got it right. Ed Gaichi.
I thought was. Great, and you are right, dude,
like I you would never seen him like again.
I was a little nervous with the casting because Mr. terrific
(01:11:48):
kind of a monotone guy and like Ed Gaichi, like nothing he's
ever been in, whether it's I'm not saying I'm a huge edge
Gaichi follower, but I've never seen him be that like monotone,
like very low leveled guy and henailed it.
I think he nailed Mr. terrific. I I thought he was great.
I'm I'm not doing punts today. I I I'm not doing punts.
(01:12:13):
I will say the one performance Idon't think was bad, but clearly
was like kind of missing was hotgirl.
She was kind of the odd man out.You know, she was kind of like
the Justice Gang. Guy Gardner.
Nathan Fillion was cooking and his, like, Comic Relief.
We just talked about Mr. Terrific Lois Lane and her story
(01:12:33):
arc I thought was good. Jimmy Olsen.
Jimmy Olsen. Hello.
Yeah, I'm fine, dude. Yeah, Jizando was good in this
movie. We got he was.
Good. I would say that the one person
that kind of got left out was hot girl, even likes crypto was
good, maybe a little too much crypto in my opinion, but he was
good. But I yeah, hot girl was, I
think was the odd man out. I think she just got short
(01:12:56):
changed with the script, honestly, more so than anything.
She just didn't really get the splashy type of lines like you
get from Guy Gardner and you getthe excellent delivery from
Nathan Fillion. And the character is just a wise
ass, you know, and Mr. Terrific is like the smartest dude on the
planet. But also he has like a comedic,
you know, deadpan delivery that Ed Gagey just nails.
(01:13:19):
He nails it, and he has one of the best action sequences of the
movie, if not the best action sequence, you know, and
Superman's not even in it. So that's like a minor spoiler.
I'm throwing it out there. That was an awesome scene.
And also that scene with James Gunn being James Gunn.
That's where it's like James Gunn, this is a Superman movie.
Is he going to like curtail his style a little bit?
(01:13:42):
I don't think he did. He kept it within the scope of
Superman. He honored the lore, in my
opinion. I think he honored the lore and
he gave us right hope for the DCUI.
Think that was it's really hard to do because it's such a tall
task to take on a Superman movieafter you just you're like
heralded as the next head of D of DC Studios.
(01:14:03):
You have made successful, like, I guess C list, like character
superhero movies, and then you're asked and then you
basically appoint yourself to doSuperman.
You want to like, look at what you've done in the past, what
has been done in the past. But he was himself in this
movie. And if you are a James Gunn fan,
you are going to love this movie100%.
(01:14:25):
Yeah, I completely agree. And I think like.
Yes, there were a lot. Of characters.
That was probably my biggest worry heading into this movie
was that and the CGI. I thought CGI, we didn't see it
on IMAX. Nothing memorable, good or bad.
And the CGI respect and with performances you mentioned at
Gaichi, Mr. Terrific having one of the not the best action
(01:14:46):
sequence. We are hyping this movie up a
lot. I will bring us back down to
earth a little bit. Just like I mentioned with the
CGII don't know if there is likethe Hallmark Superman moment in
this movie, which I kind of was waiting for.
It's not like something like youcould like point to and say
that's my Superman, I think. I think it was missing something
(01:15:08):
like that. They tried to give it to you.
I I I know 1 scene where they tried to give it to you.
I don't think it lasted but. I don't think it worked.
I don't I don't think it worked out for me.
So like when you're leaving the theater, I was like, that's a
good movie. But I I literally said to you
like, or I said to you and her cousins, I said that didn't like
that wasn't a game changer of a movie.
(01:15:29):
Like sure, it was different and yes, it worked.
I think it's a great start for the DCU and it's a good movie.
And I, I think all these performances worked.
There's nothing wrong with the movie except like, I, I guess I
just thought like, I guess I wanted a little bit more.
Maybe my expectations were raised this week.
You heard it earlier on this podcast that our expectations
were high. I guess I just wanted a little
(01:15:50):
bit more and say, whoa, that like that action scene from
Superman, like that's my Superman, That's my Christopher
Reeve. You know, that's my Tony Maguire
spider man. I didn't I didn't get one of
those in this movie. So like I'm sold on David Corn
sweat as like Superman. Not a lot of Clark Clinton,
Clark Kenton's movie against spoiler free.
But I'm just preparing you for that.
But again, maybe just like when you're going to see it, maybe
(01:16:12):
look for a moment where you're like, that's my guy.
I I know exactly the moment theywant you to think it is.
I think it could have been a more impactful moment of the
movie and then you could have had the shot.
I think that's what we're looking for, the shot.
And I think they had the shot, but I don't think it was at the
most opportune time. And I will also say I do agree
(01:16:32):
with the direction where they didn't do an origin story.
OK, I agree with this. And I think a big thing about
Superman is that he's human. Like he like, they try to
humanize them as much as possible.
And they tried in this movie, but they did try with a lot of
exposition. And they kept trying to tell you
I'm human, I'm human, I'm human.And I think it was a problem.
(01:16:54):
It felt like it was catching youup over the past three years of
trying to tell you what has happened and how he is human.
And we didn't see enough of it. And maybe you could say it's
because we didn't see a lot of Clark Kent or we didn't see
enough of Lois and Clark together, you know, Lois and
Superman, whatever you want to call it.
Maybe you could say that there'sjust not enough time in this
movie. I guess you could have that
complaint. So I guess some of this also
(01:17:16):
like kind of draw me back from saying like this is my guy, this
is a generational movie or you know, or like, you know, not
generational movie, but like, you know, an All Star movie that
versus like this is a very good movie, which I think it is.
I I think them dropping you in the middle of the DCU, a non
origin story, it led to a lot ofdialogue in the first two acts
(01:17:40):
that are expositioning and they're explaining, I guess the
circumstances of the world whereSuperman stands in the world.
It's not exactly natural at times, but I think it gets its
bearing in the third act. I think James Gunn did a good
job of a telling you what type of world we are in without kind
of overstepping, without, you know, going beyond the scope of
(01:18:03):
Superman 'cause that's where Batman VS Superman went wrong,
where they went beyond the scopeof Batman and Superman and
they're teasing the Justice League and they're showing
different characters. This one still remained in the
scope. It's the first movie in the DCU.
James Gunn has been talking a lot about the different parts of
the DC Universe, the different cities, the I I was anticipating
(01:18:26):
that there we would get more of,you know, name drops and
character mentions. It all really does come back to
Superman, but the exposition like type of dialogue is kind of
just trying to set the scene foryou.
And that also makes it an imperfect movie.
And that's what separates it doesn't make it perfect.
You know, it's not as good as the Batman.
(01:18:48):
I'm telling you that straight up.
It's not as good as the Batman. And the Batman is puts on a
clinic when in terms of like this character, we're not
showing the origin story, but we're all we're going to tell
you like all about like where hecame from without being in your
face about it. The Superman doesn't do as well
in that regard. But does it capture the essence
of the character similar to the way the Batman did like the
(01:19:09):
Detective? Roots.
Of Bruce Wayne, just like the hope that Superman inspires and
I think. Both movies are very successful.
In those manner, in that manner,Ricky Flex, other thoughts that
we have. Yeah, I think just building off
of that, I think you nailed it. I think, I think with The Batman
again, and now we're bringing itback to this almost perfect
(01:19:31):
poem. But let's just talk for a second
here. Another movie that kind of drops
you, not an origin movie, but inthe in the middle of the
character, right in the middle of his journey, right?
That one's different because that's not in a universe, you
know, it's just the Batman universe, you know, is it James
Gunn has to think of so many different elements to mention
(01:19:51):
here. Every piece of dialogue is going
to be analyzed and say, where's my Wonder Woman movie?
Where's my Supergirl movie? So it's a lot harder.
OK. And The thing is, The Batman has
been the one consistent good property from DC.
And also consistently made Superman is the exact opposite
where we haven't had is going tobe really pissed off some Snyder
(01:20:14):
verse stands. And.
I'm a cavil guy. I love cavil.
It's just that it's not your typical Superman that people
like from the comics or Christopher Reeves.
What you using your words? And I agree with the essence of
Superman capturing the Superman, humanizing Superman that the all
American Superman, Boy Scout, you know, Boy Scout, he doesn't
(01:20:34):
tell a lie. We haven't seen that since
Christopher Reeve. We we just haven't right.
And this movie, The really the two big things that James Gunn
had to do with this movie is give us trust in this universe,
which I talked about just beforethis, and give us our.
Core. Our cornerstone of our
franchise, Superman back to his true essence, his true
(01:20:55):
character, and I think he nailedthose two.
And that's why this movie is good, right?
It hit the like it it it blew back.
Like if it didn't do either of those like it only did one of
those, then like we would have aserious discussion here.
But The thing is that it did both of them and now it's like,
all right, like wipe your hands,we're good to go.
Now Let's like open the floodgates.
(01:21:15):
Let's get to this universe cuz we actually our cornerstone
franchise guy, he's not going out to the clubs at night.
He's ready to go. And that's what we have here.
Yeah, I, I agree. And I, I comic book accuracy is
huge. I think when it comes to this
universe, OK, maybe switching upsome of the lore, but also
letting directors be themselves.James Gunn showing I'm going to
(01:21:36):
make my movie this way. And if I learned anything from
this, there's no way the next movie is going in the DCU, The
future DCU movie slates they will have.
The directors will have power over the tone of the movie.
James Gunn will not make every movie The same tone as this one,
and I find that very exciting. There is no way that you're
(01:21:59):
going to have movies that fit this tone for everything.
I I I just love that that that idea because it's like what
James Gunn said. It's like we're not looking for
one typical tone to go across all these movies.
We want to see these characters interact, but we also want to
see them exist and put together the best movie possible.
You know, so I think we should maybe have one or two comments
(01:22:23):
here, Ricky Flex and then we save it for the full deep dive
on Monday. I wanted to add Crypto.
I think he'll also be a little bit divisive of a character
because at times he could feel like maybe it's too much.
You know, other times people will say this is the cutest part
of the movie or the best part ofthe movie.
(01:22:45):
I am in the camp that it was awesome to have crypto in this
movie. It fit the tone of the movie.
It if you like the dark broodingSnyder verse, you're going to
absolutely probably despise crypto in this movie.
But if you love having fun at these type of movies and are
open to a different iteration that we that we just saw with
(01:23:07):
the Snyder verse, I think you'rereally going to enjoy crypto.
And I'll leave it there. I I think crypto was awesome.
I'll save more for the deep dive.
And I think when you find out more about the background of
crypto, like the his behavior and his relationship with
Superman, it makes more sense. I think there was nice little
sly writing in that regard whereit's like, yeah, people are
(01:23:30):
going to say and have these typeof, you know, question marks at
the end. I think James Gunn actually
covered his tracks pretty well at the end of this movie.
Rick I. I think that's a good way to put
it, cover his tracks because. I think there was a little too
much crypto. I think I said that earlier.
I think there was. But it worked.
It did work. And you did expect that, if you
(01:23:50):
know James Gunn. Yeah, we, I think we talked
about this earlier in the pot, like we expected this, you know,
and was there one, was there oneor two scenes maybe that was
pretty unnecessary. Yeah.
But he did cover his tracks a little bit at the end.
And I, I give him the benefit ofthe doubt because he did that,
because I think that was really clever.
I'll also say this felt like a summer blockbuster because of
(01:24:11):
the pace, though. This is breakneck pace and
that's where it also felt like that you like you're getting
dropped in this universe. You're turning left and right,
you're doing three 60s like where am I right now?
And you get a bunch of title cards.
In the beginning, a movie reallydoesn't stop.
It is like a fright train and made it feel like a summer
blockbuster. I think that was a good, good
way to approach this movie. No slow parts. 2 hours 9 minutes
(01:24:33):
that flew by. Yeah, I like if I.
Had to pick between this or, youknow, maybe dive into a couple
other things. I think just for a general movie
audience, keep it, keep up the pace, keep it going.
I think this was the right move. But like, if I did have to say
something like or say a drawbackto his, what I was saying
earlier about a lot of the exposition in the first couple
acts, a lot of the feeling of catching up to the origin story
(01:24:54):
of the prior three years and thebouncing like around.
It was bouncing around at times because it had a breakneck pace.
Yeah, it does. And there was different
storylines, so many different characters.
So like again, for people like me and you and people that
listen to this podcast and we, we kind of had a good preview of
what was going to be, but the normal general audience maybe
(01:25:17):
didn't appreciate. That it's a double edged sword
because like if you have that break deck pace, I think the
entertainment value and the entertainment factor goes up.
But if you have the longer movie, you get more time with
some of these supporting characters too, which I think
was also I get, I don't want to call it a negative of the movie,
but it's just something that maybe I wanted to hang out a
(01:25:37):
little bit more with some of these important.
Characters. But at the same time, like the
scope, it all is funneling towards Superman and that's the
most important thing. So I think it was the right
decision do. You think there is enough
Superman? I think there was enough
Superman. I think there was.
I think there was enough, but there wasn't enough.
(01:25:58):
Like he got his ass kicked a lot.
In this movie. And I'm saying.
He didn't like like that one moment.
Like I was waiting for that dude.
Yeah, it seems like I'm very interested if Jamie's gun comes
back to direct the sequel. And I I think in the next movie,
this is kind of going into next podcast a little bit, but I
think you're going to be seeing a different Superman in the next
(01:26:19):
movie in terms of the use of hispowers 100%.
And I think it's going to dive more into the back story and the
lore that we got a taste of in this movie.
I will say that I don't know James Gunn's going to come back.
His responsibilities may go up in the DCU, may not have time to
make the sequel. I would be interested to see if
there's a new director and is itmore like a guy action oriented
(01:26:43):
wants to see like someone that gets you, your get your like
gears going like hey, Superman'sgoing to kick some ass in this
movie. And similar to similar to The
Batman, like we did again, we previewed this similar to The
Batman with Robert Pattinson again, you're too Batman.
He's not going to be the perfectBatman.
That's why he was getting his ass kicked at times.
It was somewhere about here where they say at the beginning
(01:27:05):
of the oh, wait, wait, I don't want to do.
I'm not. I think we got to cut it soon.
Now we're getting crazy. Now we're yeah, I'm getting
crazy. It's dark.
You can see it's dark here. TDI late night.
That's when things get. We got to cut it off.
We. Got to cut it off.
I'm cut off, I'm cut off. We'll save it because we're
