Speaker 1 (00:00):
The Driver's Show with Paul Marriage and Gaudy Waters.

Speaker 2 (00:11):
What are you driving.

Speaker 1 (00:12):
I've got a twenty fourteen BMW X one which I own,
which I bought off my brother and caught a little
bit on fire. I did it a little bit, but
it's fine.

Speaker 2 (00:23):
Not a lot of fire.

Speaker 1 (00:24):
No, it was just like, when I got out of
the car, I was like, fuck, it's really smoky in
the Southern Highlands today. It's so weird. They must be
going up. And then I got out of the car
and then I was like the air underneath the cart
was like wavy, yeah, and I'm like that that's a
bit of fire. I'm like, yeah, there is something really
hot in this car. And so I, uh, that's been

(00:45):
in the shop and I don't care to think about.

Speaker 2 (00:48):
Yeah, so it's still there.

Speaker 1 (00:50):
Yeah, yeah, it's going to be a very expensive fix.

Speaker 2 (00:52):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (00:53):
BMW's. I fucking love them, oh swearing.

Speaker 2 (00:57):
This is a Christian podcast. I would prefer if you
didn't in the name of my Jesus.

Speaker 1 (01:02):
Okay, that's noted. So I freaking love bnw's. But when
they go off a cliff.

Speaker 2 (01:08):
Yeah they're just off man.

Speaker 1 (01:12):
Good service though, yeah, not that good. Not twenty fourteen.

Speaker 2 (01:16):
In my experience, our great service. I had a mini though,
I had a Mini Cooper.

Speaker 1 (01:19):
S yeah baby car.

Speaker 2 (01:22):
Yeah okay, and they yeah, they were were always really nice. Hey.
By the way, the weird thing is it might seem
that paul is absent. I'm so sorry. It's been quite
a while between recordings. Basically, paul is no longer killed him. Yeah,
well you have so Basically what you're hearing now is

(01:43):
Pauline Pavlo has transitioned, which is nice.

Speaker 1 (01:46):
Thank you, congratulations, Thank you so much for being such
a supportive workplace for this. It was a big decision,
but I'm definitely a better person.

Speaker 2 (01:55):
For they did. They love it off properly, Like, is
that something you can bring in on the trail?

Speaker 1 (02:00):
I think that you're not allowed to ask that question.
Why not because the rules say cart but yes, it's gone,
it's gone. Is that like it's gone.

Speaker 2 (02:08):
We can't call midgets midgets like we call it like
dwarfs midgets or whatever.

Speaker 1 (02:13):
I can't be canceled on this podcast. It's too early
for me to be canceled on this podcast as Paulina.
Paul is dead, but Paulina has a clean slate.

Speaker 2 (02:22):
Wait, till Donna finds out. So, yes, Steph Coombs is
here journalist speaking of transitioning. I guess we could say
you're making the transition into there's a lot of car
journalism going on in your life.

Speaker 1 (02:35):
There is, you know, because like truly at the core
of myself as a person and is a media professional.
I'm actually a grifter, okay, a through and through grifter,
And so I am. I'm grifting out of podcasting and
other stuff, and I'm grifting towards car media, which is
my preferred area at the moment.

Speaker 2 (02:54):
I don't know what grifting means. It sounds like a
subject on you, pawn.

Speaker 1 (02:57):
It's like, if you're grifting, you know, you're sort of
you're like a traveling salesman.

Speaker 2 (03:01):
Oh yeah, you know, like, oh yeah, like a riverboat dandy.

Speaker 1 (03:07):
Thank you, thank you.

Speaker 2 (03:08):
Yes, I've always thought of you as a riverboat dandy.

Speaker 1 (03:11):
That's how I see myself.

Speaker 2 (03:12):
Because general stuff comes with her letters.

Speaker 1 (03:15):
What can I do, precisely give me a car? Yeah yeah,
So at the moment, I just I just like cars.
And it turns out that you can get paid to
do this, Yeah, sure to work that bit out, Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah,
Well some of us.

Speaker 2 (03:29):
Can some of you can. You not me, And you
can tell by the way. You can actually tell that
STEP's the pro at this because she's the one with
the laptop and I'm just scribbling shit on paper.

Speaker 1 (03:37):
Well, I'm googling what is car?

Speaker 2 (03:40):
Yeah, I look like I look like a nineteen eighties
journalist who's just like finishing the story on the bottom
of his car, like, yeah, submit, submit, I say, I
just I'm basically Trevor Long. I'll just yell my review
out on the top of the town hall steps. Do
you know who Trevor Long is? I do actually surprised

(04:01):
many people do. No.

Speaker 1 (04:03):
Back in my talk back radio days. Another thing that
I used to do. He was our tech reporter, I
think when I was working at two GB. Wow, I know,
I know, I've been everywhere.

Speaker 2 (04:13):
And I love the whole time. Trevor's still just been
a tech reporter. Have you ever known as that Trevor
Long just looks like a court drawing of a homeless person.

Speaker 1 (04:24):
No, I haven't noticed that.

Speaker 2 (04:28):
No, Well take another look.

Speaker 1 (04:30):
I don't want to am I starting a fight with
Trevor now? Well, if you got to, I feel like
this is a long standing fight you have with Trevor.

Speaker 2 (04:37):
I've got no problems with trev You just called him a.

Speaker 1 (04:39):
Court reporter sketch of a homeless person. Yeah, that feels
like you've got a fight.

Speaker 2 (04:44):
No no, no, no, no, it's not a fight unless
it's accurate and facts were good.

Speaker 1 (04:49):
Okay, that's good.

Speaker 2 (04:50):
That's good. Hey, I wanted to talk to you about
the kid Tasman because the launch has happened. You got
to go. I talk driving impressions. I don't really know
too much about this car. They have released prices now right,
they have indeed, so we know prices, we know it's
out there. We know there could be other variants coming.

(05:10):
We know it was designed by a guy called fuck it.
That'll do, Damon, just submit it. We know that.

Speaker 1 (05:19):
Do we want to do? We want to talk pricing
because I have actually got it up.

Speaker 2 (05:21):
Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah, you've done with.

Speaker 1 (05:23):
I mean not up. It's all in my head. I'm
so good at this stuff. So you've got about ten
variants coming, right, So at the top of the line,
you've got the x Pro and that's that is a
like a really solid off roading car.

Speaker 2 (05:36):
And that does look good. I will say that one.

Speaker 1 (05:38):
Definitely looks better than I think a lot of the
S line, which which has a much bigger nose on it.
So the X Pro that's going to be about seventy
five thousand dollars before on road costs and then right
at the other end. But but for that as well,
like you get all the you know, the transmission lock,
you've got the low gear range, you've got cameras that

(05:59):
look at the floor when you're driving. I found that
to be not at all useful, but really not. Even
SI couldn't see it, couldn't see it. It was. It
was too mushy to sort of make much of an
impression anythink. But you know, I'm also not great at offerating.
Someone else who's better than me might get more use
out of it.

Speaker 2 (06:14):
So it's the sports bars and stuff like that on it.
Because I saw it with the sports bar, I'm like,
that better be. You've got a factory like look.

Speaker 1 (06:22):
I think that there are accessories. You've asked me a
specific question which I have not prepared for. I could lie,
I don't know the answers.

Speaker 2 (06:29):
To make this ship.

Speaker 1 (06:31):
It's not like I sat in like three press conferences
and was specifically told that information but at that point,
you know, I was probably playing snake on my phone
or something.

Speaker 2 (06:40):
Do you know when they first launched this in tazzy
funny enough.

Speaker 1 (06:44):
Tasmanism what they did there.

Speaker 2 (06:47):
The PR team are fucking geniuses. So someone it was
literally like the Homo Simpson car. One of the press Yeah, yeah, yeah.
So one of the rest journalists put the hand up.
Possibly could have been Dave McCowan. I'm not sure, but
they said.

Speaker 1 (07:07):
My editor, yes, great guy.

Speaker 2 (07:08):
Yeah. The first question was is it too late to
change the design? And the designer was there and he's like, yes.

Speaker 1 (07:20):
That is superb. That's that is that is a bold
first question.

Speaker 2 (07:24):
Yeah, I love that.

Speaker 1 (07:26):
Well, look, the design is controversial. You can't go online
without people talking about it. I reckon the S and
the SX variant are uglier than the X line X
line Pro.

Speaker 2 (07:40):
I think the X line pro is definitely to pick
from what I've.

Speaker 1 (07:43):
Heard, and you know, who am I to spread gossip
on this fine established journalistic podcast that we're on. From
from what I was told, do you say that? Just
do you say that?

Speaker 2 (07:57):
Paul? I do, actually, and he does. And let me
tell you that the kind of guy who would that
press fruit bowl that he does on the glass of
that studio door.

Speaker 1 (08:06):
Let's just say, hey, I touched that with my hands before.

Speaker 2 (08:09):
Was out of season. Let me just say that there
is a fruit fruit.

Speaker 1 (08:15):
Again. I really hope that you guys wipe that down
nice and well. Yes, no. So the rumor, the interesting
rumor that I was told from a couple of people,
is that there were a few designs right, and there
was a design that was sort of unanimously preferred, and
they were like, it's that one. And then there was
a captain's call further up in the head office and

(08:37):
they're like, nut, we're going for this ugly one because
it's and they wanted something that was really bold. And
you can't deny that it is a bold design. It
is something that stands out, and they have to do
something that stands out because they are late to the
game and they're in a very crowded market and what
they're offering, I think is not a bad off, but

(09:01):
only marginally better I think than what's already out there.
And people can debate that that it it hasn't gone
far enough and whatnot. They said at the launch, because
I did ask the question, I'm like, I mean, this
is all anyone's talking about is the way this looks.
I mean, you're concerned about that coming out to the launch,
and they said, look, we think that the angst there

(09:21):
was not mine. The angst about the looks of this
will go down when people see it on the road.

Speaker 2 (09:26):
I agree with that, but I do too.

Speaker 1 (09:28):
I do too.

Speaker 2 (09:28):
Yeah, I think what's going to happen is after time.
This is like a design that is, no doubt polarizing,
polarizing both, but I think it'll soften by the time
people kind of get used to it and see it
on the roads. Another thing that Key's got to realize is, well,
people have got to realize Key has really transition their

(09:49):
design language a lot. Like you look at the everything
from the Evning nine and downwards the Key at K
four or that. Now they've come up with this you
and it really kind of has to set in that
design language that they're coming out with.

Speaker 1 (10:02):
It does, and it's also tricky because they have to
very quickly establish themselves as blokey. And this is a
hard thing because I think of care and I think
of sensible, nice lady cars for driving, you know around,
And you.

Speaker 2 (10:16):
Know, I had had a care Stinger that's not Is
that a senseable lady car? I'd like to think it is.
I would like to.

Speaker 1 (10:23):
Think which was a great car, great engine. A couple
of people said like, couldn't you put the Stinger engine
in the Tasman because it's you know, but but they haven't,
didn't they.

Speaker 2 (10:32):
Hey, by the way, with that, I think they used
the same one they're putting in the yan Day Palisade.
I don't know for sure. I've thrown thrown that one
out there.

Speaker 1 (10:42):
Yeah, I love it. How I have not prepared for
any of these things, like, you know, trying to look
like I know what I'm talking about. Look, it is
a two point two liter four cylinder engine, which is
and I didn't feel like it was.

Speaker 2 (10:55):
And did they talk about the toying on that they did?

Speaker 1 (10:58):
But but you know what, towing is complicated, isn't it.
So it was like it's three point five when when
we towed something around it, it felt we were towing
around a two ton caravan. It felt fine. For all
of these utes, they do over promise and you have
to be a little bit careful about what your rear
axle can actually take. So if you're doing any sort
of serious towing. Think, is there any dual cab you

(11:19):
that you really would trust?

Speaker 2 (11:21):
There's only there's only one when it comes to towing
that I fully fully trust, and that is the BYD Shark,
Because yeah, I mean that is just a piece of
engineer and genius in the towing department, in the off
road department. I'm being cynical, but yeah, look, so hey,

(11:42):
one thing I did love about the Key Tasmin, especially
in the Expro, the interior on this is really cool.
Like it is they've taken the bloky ute and they've
made it look really posh, like it's really well set out.

Speaker 1 (11:55):
It's the interior and a lot of people were saying
this is like you know, you're you're looking that they've
just signed interior out in a lot of ways. So
you've got a really nice entertainment system in the x Pro.
You've got this sort of faux leather not actual leather.
But the seats are really comfortable, electric seats, heated seats,
which which is the one thing, the one thing which
is a non negotiable for me, heated seats.

Speaker 2 (12:17):
Yeah, I cannot go back. I refuse to go I
love them. Yeah, Okay, some people don't like them. My
mistress goes, don't check the heated seats on It makes
me want to poo. I'm like, to be honest with you,
everything makes you poop. We could have any you could
walk past.

Speaker 1 (12:32):
Have you got it at like the cooling seats, maybe
it would do the opposite can make yeah. Yeah, But
the heated seats in the in the front and in
the back in the Expro, which I thought was a
nice little and the back seats actually had a reasonable
recline on them too, so because usually the back row
is just miserable in these dual cabs, but the back
row was quite roomy. The car is very large as well.

Speaker 2 (12:56):
How does it stuck up to, say, like the BYD
Shark for instance, I'll go back to that. But yeah,
I think it's actually not a bad car. But it's
a bloody big bugger. Does it feel big?

Speaker 1 (13:06):
It feels big, and it is marginally larger than a
lot of these big uts that are on the roads.
I think you need that, right, like, if you're going
to have like a comfortable back row and if you're
going to be sort of try and separate yourself on
the market, like and they needed it to be big,
and they needed it to be bloken. You just need
to look at the ads right to see how they're

(13:27):
trying to position themselves in the market.

Speaker 2 (13:29):
All the sports people cameo is like it's a happy
Gilmore Too movie.

Speaker 1 (13:32):
Can I tell you a story about the launch? Go
on the second night there was Tasman Town and we
had no idea what Tasmin Town was.

Speaker 2 (13:39):
And so you need a map Tasi to get around
Tasman down.

Speaker 1 (13:42):
I'm not answering that. So Tasman Town. As it turned out,
they've taken over the town of Sephala, right, and where
is that near bathist Sophala? Beautiful mining town, very small
town only has like one hundred and fifty people population.

Speaker 2 (13:55):
I lived in Orange for a couple of months.

Speaker 1 (13:57):
I should know it. It's like around the corner from Oreckon. Yeah,
couldn't give a ship, but we were dropped off there
and the night were you abducted, it felt a little
bit like a launch.

Speaker 2 (14:09):
You were at some wind.

Speaker 1 (14:11):
Carrying my trauma and you just have to receive the trauma.

Speaker 2 (14:15):
I feel like you're in a cult.

Speaker 1 (14:17):
It felt it was an interesting night because they brought
in all these sports stars who were there, Like Volkanovsky
was there, Alex Volkanowski, the UFC guy, Boonie was there.

Speaker 2 (14:28):
I mean, they got all these dudes go on regional.

Speaker 1 (14:31):
There were nine of them, and I didn't know half
of the unless it's a racing driver, I don't know
any of these people. But they brought all these guys
in and it was I would describe it as like
live improvisation theater. And I would sooner gnaw off my
own hand often than deal with that, because I find
that very quick, you know, uncomfortable. So you're going in
and and all these guys are assuming the characters that

(14:51):
they've been playing in the ads, so like Volkanovsky is
like the chef, and like Boonie is that it's Boonie's
Bakery in there. And so the town mayor who was
in the ads is like, oh, you know, hello you newcomers, like,
come along and I'll introduce you to your neighbors. And
have you ever did you ever go to old Sydney Town?

Speaker 2 (15:10):
Yes, imagine that we had something when I was growing up,
because I grew up in Melbourne. We we've got something
there called Sovereign Hill and it's very it's a very
similar vibe I reckon exactly that.

Speaker 1 (15:20):
So imagine those sort of like historical open air museums
or whatever, only it's it's Tasman Town and a sporting
style lineup that you and I know, Volkanovsky and the
rest of them, and Boonie because like it's Boonie.

Speaker 2 (15:32):
It's Booney, it's boonievb bubblehead.

Speaker 1 (15:34):
Yeah, yes, yes, legend and everyone else. This was a
very very stressful time for me because like I'm talking
to people like do I know you from a carllege
or are you some Australian sporting legend. I should absolutely know. Anyway,
I'm just in this heightened state of anxiety and then you.

Speaker 2 (15:50):
Put a lot of pressure on yourself.

Speaker 1 (15:52):
You are right, no, I'm not giving you a check down.
It gets worse, it gets worse. So where finally there's
a sit down dinner part and I'm like, oh, thank
you know now now it's over. Like I'm sitting down
and so this guy sits next to me and he's like,
I'm Nathan, who are you? And I'm like, holy hell,
that's pretty aggressive starting thing. I thought he was just
sort of like a brash card journo. So I'm like

(16:14):
I'm Stephanie. Who are you? And then he said, oh,
I'm Nathan. Heind marsh, I'm one of the footballers. Also,
I said how are you?

Speaker 2 (16:22):
What's wrong with that?

Speaker 1 (16:23):
It didn't I thought he said who are you? And
he said how are you? So I just beat a
massive bitch to him and I'm like, oh, mate, I'm
so sorry. I don't know anyone here.

Speaker 2 (16:31):
I thought you said, let's recreate that, right. Yeah, we're
sitting at We're sitting at dinner.

Speaker 1 (16:37):
It's nice and.

Speaker 2 (16:39):
You're just going about your business here, hey going, I'm Nathan,
how are you?

Speaker 1 (16:45):
And I say, I'm Stephanie.

Speaker 2 (16:48):
Who are you? Oh? And he was like, I'm fucking
Nathan from the bloody shitty football club.

Speaker 1 (16:54):
He wasn't like that.

Speaker 2 (16:55):
He was sorry bloody got involved in that case. A
couple of years back. We can't talk. But on whatever
job on Celebrity Apprentice.

Speaker 1 (17:03):
He was so nice. He was such a lovely bloke, Nathan,
and he was he was very good human about the
holding in that situation. I was the bad guy.

Speaker 2 (17:11):
You single or what.

Speaker 1 (17:15):
He talked about his wife and his kids. It was wholesome,
but it was a nice story. In that story, I'm
the bad guy. I'm the bad guy.

Speaker 2 (17:21):
He's a good guy.

Speaker 1 (17:22):
He's the good guy.

Speaker 2 (17:22):
All right. So anyway, so you got on.

Speaker 1 (17:27):
Yeah I got through. But but you could sense how
much time and money had been sort of spent on.

Speaker 2 (17:32):
This and he's basically he's a stripper. He's been paid
to talk to you and were you don't know.

Speaker 1 (17:41):
I don't know if they'd like that, but.

Speaker 2 (17:42):
They do, like a lot of things on their podcast.
Trust me, I'm doing okay. It's fine. You don't need
to stress. You're in safe hands. We can say what
we like.

Speaker 1 (17:51):
I just I don't necessarily endorse the messages that are
coming out of this podcast. But yeah, it was It
was a really seriously like expensive and and ritzy and
quite a nice event. But it gave you a sense
of just how much they need this to work, and
they need it to work, and they need to align
themselves with like blokes and trade's and sporting stars, and

(18:13):
they've got to build credibility really quick. And I think
their car is good. It drove well. The off roading
was really good. It's really smart. When you get off
the tarmac, it does a lot of the thinking for you.
I think four years ago, this car would have been
a smash hit.

Speaker 2 (18:30):
I think like seventy five thousand dollars at the moment
for a Kia and you're dealing with the trade's I
think that's fine. I think, like, I mean, it's kind
of it's somewhat priced competitively. It's going up against a
lot of established blokey brands that are out there, and
I don't know, it's a shaky one. We're gonna wait
and see on this.

Speaker 1 (18:49):
Yeah, well they want to they want to be number four,
So they want to.

Speaker 2 (18:52):
Be number four.

Speaker 1 (18:54):
Yeah, that's what the target. Well, but like to be fair,
like they're up against the Highlucks, the Ranger, Azuzu D Max. Yes,
so like four is good. But when you look at
the BYD Shark, Yeah, I actually that's where their competition is.
I think, And I reckon, I reckon. It's hard to
come in with a diesel ute when there's a lot

(19:14):
of diesel uts doing a good job that are established
and you know what their resale value is, Whereas like
BYD comes in with a plug in hybrid and you're like,
well that's that's a compelling different offer.

Speaker 2 (19:25):
Yeah, but this kid Tasman can do a lot of
things that the BYD can't do.

Speaker 1 (19:29):
I haven't driven the BYD.

Speaker 2 (19:30):
Oh yeah, oh yeah, yeah. Look I like them, like
we joke about them a bit on the podcast. I'm
a bad fanboy, Like I freaking think the Seal Performance
is an excellent EV. They make great cars in fact,
like if I was to pick an EV, it would
be at the top of the top of the pile somewhere.
But I think where they went wrong with the Shark
is they advertised it as a fun off road car

(19:52):
as well, and you can see that in their advertising.
And I don't know, I wouldn't confidently take this. I'd probably,
you know, I think it'd be fine on the sand
on the beach possibly, But that's where I kind of
draw the line. And look, Paul will tell you he
had a lot of problems going up test hills and
stuff like that with that car. So yeah, it's a

(20:13):
little bit shaky with the off road hill climbing and
stuff like that. But I think as a daily you know,
you want to check stuff in the back of a car,
you need to cut the kids around. I think it's
actually great. The tech, it's good, it feels bougie, it's
really competitively priced, like compared to the top of the
line Kia Tasmin say the x Pro, this is like

(20:33):
ten grand cheaper. Yeah on road, oh god, if that
could even be fifteen.

Speaker 1 (20:38):
I will say that the Tasman was really good offer it.
I'm not an experienced off road driver, and so I
thought that this car was going to have to do
a lot of thinking for me if we were going
to not roll it. And sure enough it really did.
It's only got a rear diff lock, which is a
slightly limiting factor, but the traction control it is so
smart that it does manage just to really chew through

(20:59):
some fairly rugged roads.

Speaker 2 (21:02):
You're a rugged person, I am.

Speaker 1 (21:04):
Can't you tell?

Speaker 2 (21:05):
I can tell so tough.

Speaker 1 (21:07):
I'm so tough.

Speaker 2 (21:08):
It's so tough. You know what you need?

Speaker 1 (21:10):
What do I need?

Speaker 2 (21:10):
A Genesis? I had a Genesis. I went on a
cute little road driven by Genesis GV eighty coop, as
Stephan likes to call it now, a Genesis. I took
it down from Sydney to Melbourne and then up into
the Victorian Highlands. We took its skiing stop LUs Yeah,

(21:32):
very lucks, I tell you what. This was one of
the best SUVs I've ever driven. Really, Oh my god,
it's so good. It's so good twin Turbov six. So
it's kind of got that. I guess the Stinger engine
in it. It's got a really strong engine. It's just
got all the lucks. It looks good. Mine was like this,
Matt Green and yeah, the coup at the back is

(21:55):
definitely the best looking Genesis out there.

Speaker 1 (21:57):
Think about the Genesis is that like I always look
at that car and I'm like, what is that car?

Speaker 2 (22:02):
What do you mean?

Speaker 1 (22:03):
They're a bit of like a mishmash of other cars.

Speaker 2 (22:06):
They're not.

Speaker 1 (22:06):
I look at them and I'm like, oh, you are
an amalgamation of every car on the road. I love
a bit of a Yeah. I mean, look there, they're fine.

Speaker 2 (22:16):
They're fine, They're fine.

Speaker 1 (22:17):
I'm sure they're beautiful on the road. But I don't
get if I see a Genesis going by, I'm not like,
holy hell, really there goes a Genesis.

Speaker 2 (22:24):
Oh my god.

Speaker 1 (22:24):
I kind of think of them as like TMU Bentley's
real tu Bentley's like with the the way that the
wings kind of flare out on the Genesis badge and
I'm like, oh, yeah, who are you trying to fall
you know, it's like they're kind of pretending to be
a fancier car than they are. I don't respect that.

Speaker 2 (22:43):
Really, I don't respect you.

Speaker 1 (22:45):
I don't.

Speaker 2 (22:46):
But you know what terrible things about my Genesis, you
little bitch. Get out of here.

Speaker 1 (22:51):
Put me. I haven't I haven't driven one. Maybe there
you go.

Speaker 2 (22:54):
Get out of here, you fucking hussy.

Speaker 1 (23:00):
Because you look at it. You look at it and
you're like, oh, is that a nice car? And then yes, yes,
and you're like, oh, it's a Genesis.

Speaker 2 (23:07):
It's a great car. What's wrong with it? It's not
you haven't even driven one.

Speaker 1 (23:12):
Yeah, I know.

Speaker 2 (23:13):
I'm going to give you some homework. You need to
drive one. Drive the GV eighty Coop sports Back whatever
they call it, and then get back to me.

Speaker 1 (23:22):
Because I'm happy to eat my words on that one.

Speaker 2 (23:24):
It is kitted out and it is fantastic, and it
drives just as well as a BMW X six. Yeah. Yeah,
does it look as good though, Yes it does. It
looks fantastic. It looks really good. It's not bullshit. How
dare you?

Speaker 1 (23:42):
I can't believe we're having our first fight?

Speaker 2 (23:43):
We are? I love it? Hey, I'm going to say
a couple of names of cars right that I've driven
and I know you've driven, and then you can stop
on one and tell me where we could talk about.
Are you ready? Mazda m X five. Next, I'll get
back to that gmc dnali you came.

Speaker 1 (24:03):
Yeah, how long did you have the car for?

Speaker 2 (24:10):
All? Right? This is a pissing contest, or is it?

Speaker 1 (24:13):
You would win?

Speaker 2 (24:14):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (24:15):
I've got a strong, steady stream.

Speaker 2 (24:18):
I was afraid of what you're going to say. Then
I've got a strong name.

Speaker 1 (24:23):
I like cars, man, it's all suspects.

Speaker 2 (24:26):
Yeah, sorry, what was your question? I was too busy
thinking about you.

Speaker 1 (24:30):
How long my schlong? How long did you have the
Yukon Force?

Speaker 2 (24:34):
I had it for a week? Yeah, yeah, which is
pretty standard.

Speaker 1 (24:37):
So I was only there for the launch of that car,
so I didn't have it for a very long time.
But I really enjoyed it when we were driving around
sort of the back area, sort of camera and whatever,
and like big country roads. It's like driving a couch.

Speaker 2 (24:50):
The thing is with that car. It is so big.
In fact, I think it's actually the biggest suv in
Australia on sale right now for a bloody large car
feels like a piece of piss to drive.

Speaker 1 (25:03):
Absolutely, it's so easy.

Speaker 2 (25:04):
And it's it's such a joy, and it's such a
shame that like these American yank tanks, whatever you want
to call them, they're getting a bad name, like, oh,
they don't fit on Australian bloody roads. Oh they don't
fit in Australian bloody shopping shirt of car parks. Yes
they do. Shut up, shut your fat, bloody Northern lager,
bloody great Northern drinking fat, prostate cancer hole. I can

(25:31):
say that my dad has prostate cancer.

Speaker 1 (25:32):
But oh well, now you brought the tone down twice.

Speaker 2 (25:35):
No I haven't, I've brought the tone up, but just
just shut up. It's a great, big, fat American car
and we need to see more.

Speaker 1 (25:42):
Of I don't know, man, driving that, I loved it
when I was out in the country, but like driving
that back to Merrickville was white knuckle.

Speaker 2 (25:49):
Oh yeah, driving around Sydney. I took that to I
took that to the work car park, which is think
think like Meriton Sweets style. Usually my Genesis loves it,
but this Denali I couldn't fit it in and I
had to drive it home and I had to get
an uber into work. So there is okay, the big

(26:10):
fat idiots, So saying doesn't fit in Astrolian car parks.

Speaker 1 (26:13):
Okay, that's yeah, some some astral city city driving.

Speaker 2 (26:16):
Yeah, all right, you've had your way. But like whatever, it's.

Speaker 1 (26:19):
Very it's it's the cost of it is a bit inhibitive,
like it's it's it's so expensive.

Speaker 2 (26:24):
What is it like one hundred and seventy yeah.

Speaker 1 (26:26):
Sixteen hundred, sixty hundred and seventy, like it is an
outrageously expected car. And but if you are a rouse
hill bogan, don't say that. I'm sorry that is that
is a that is a Hills District aspirational car.

Speaker 2 (26:38):
I think it's a cashed up man car.

Speaker 1 (26:40):
You've got five you've got five acres and you've got two.
It could be on the gold kids that hate you. Yeah,
and then you've got no, it's a it's a Hills
District broken car.

Speaker 2 (26:51):
There is nothing Bogan about that car.

Speaker 1 (26:54):
There is nothing UKONDINALI.

Speaker 2 (26:57):
Yes, it looks slightly it is like.

Speaker 1 (27:00):
It's obnoxiously large, it's ridiculous on the roads. It is
you know, overpowered and heavy, it's overpowered. Well it's it's
it's powered enough size. Look, it was it was fun
to drive. I found the breaking a bit tricky on
that car. Actually, did you find that? Like when I
when I hit the brakes, I felt like it sort
of was a bit touchier than I was expecting.

Speaker 2 (27:23):
No, not really, I found it just maybe I'm just
a shit driver. Yeah, I just found it absolute joy.
Like I took that. I did city and like I
took it on a few road trips and stuff. And look,
if you have a big block of land, if you've
got an acreage and you don't need to drive into
the city, this is a great car, just because the
city comes with issues. But yeah, I don't I don't

(27:44):
think there is anything Boganish. If you're gonna say Bogan,
I kind of think, like fucking you could throw anything.
You could put a bloody commodore or something like that's Bogan.

Speaker 1 (27:54):
No, no, no, no, this this is this is new
money Bogan car. I will die on that. I grew
up at the supercars, Like I'm a secret bogn Hills history.
Like I'm not fighting any of this. It's not a
bad thing, but that is I reckon. That's who their
market is.

Speaker 2 (28:09):
So what if if a cash that person like with
a bit of a bit of soave, if they've got
a big bunch of cash, what Suvre they driving Genesis?
They're not driving in Genesis. Yeah, driving in Genesis.

Speaker 1 (28:24):
That's a good question.

Speaker 2 (28:25):
Because it looks it looks very what do you call it?
Cadillac kind of looks like I guess like they would
be driving an escalade.

Speaker 1 (28:32):
Yeah, look, I have nothing against it. I reckon the
TV screens at the back. Nice car was very nice
to drive, I agree, but like as soon as you're
in sort of narrow streets, it's like it's brown pants stuff.

Speaker 2 (28:44):
Tell you what I reckon? You were like, yeah, the Volvo.

Speaker 1 (28:47):
X ninety indeed, indeed, yes, So I live in Bondai
now and only too at me? How long to mention that?
And I see a lot of the X nineties. I
think the Bondai. Though Bondo is the Porsche capital of Australia.
I think that the Porsche to resident ratio there would
be ridiculous.

Speaker 2 (29:06):
But I see a lot of it's pronounced but that's so.

Speaker 1 (29:08):
Yeah only if you're only if you're a winker. So
I see a lot of them. I don't think of
Volvo as particularly luxury brand.

Speaker 2 (29:18):
To be honest, really, I don't.

Speaker 1 (29:20):
I think of them as a nice sort of mid
range vehicle. But Volvo see themselves as a BMW right
up there. And I was like, yeah, right, I know.
But from the second I picked up that car from
the Volvo headquarters. And usually when you're picking up a
press car, I'm sure you've experienced this. You're picking up
from this warehouse. They throw the keys at you, and
there's just cars everywhere, and you are desperate not to

(29:40):
scrape up the car and just break it. Press cars
get damaged because it's just chaoe. So you have to
drive it out and then you're in the middle of
a very crowded suburb and so you're trying to work
out how to drive the car. It's a pretty unpleasant time,
I find, But I haven't smashed anything up yet. When
I was picking up the Volvo, you know, someone from
the Volvo head's office who was wearing a suit and
was so sociable and and came down and it's like,

(30:01):
you know, gave me the tour of the car, and
you know, this is how you do this. And my
favorite thing about the car is this, and like I
think that you'll enjoy the speaker system. I'm like, I
think I will enjoy the speakers.

Speaker 2 (30:10):
You don't get that. You don't get that.

Speaker 1 (30:11):
You don't you don't like if you were picking up
pretty much any other car, it's like the keys get
pegged at you and you were on your own.

Speaker 2 (30:17):
Yeah. Yeah, and it's the roads that way, dighead. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (30:20):
Have you have you ever smashed a Presca?

Speaker 2 (30:23):
Yes? Have you? Pavely doesn't know about this yet. I
haven't told Paul.

Speaker 1 (30:28):
Okay, so and I don't know he's not here.

Speaker 2 (30:31):
I don't know if I'm allowed to talk about it.
But you know what, I did pay for the damage,
so well yeah, so it was the gw M Canon Alpha,
big beautiful shiny ute.

Speaker 1 (30:46):
And that is a big car.

Speaker 2 (30:48):
It's a big but yeah, it's good. I actually enjoyed
it as a diesel. The problem is I was coming
out of a car park where and then it's it's
a Dickey car park where the gate of the car
park goes inwards and you have to stop at a ramp,
got to swipe your security card and then the gate
opens inwards. And so by the time you've got clearance one,

(31:10):
you've got to kind of get up this ramp, so
you've got and plus dealing with the diesel. I looked
at it and I literally had less than an inch
on each space, right on each side. It was I
knew it was going to be narrow. But I've done
it heaps of times. I've you know, I've been parking
there for over twelve months. It's generally fine. But the
problem is when I sort of revved it to get
up this this ramp, the whole thing just fucking came

(31:34):
out of nowhere, like really like push forward and yeah,
just I really scraped this shit out of the side.
Like it was that gate that got it. I'm like,
what the fuck? No, yeah, panels, uh, the front the
front quarter panel. Yeah, it was bad. It was real bad.
I mean I paid for the damage, and it doesn't

(31:55):
change my opinion on the car. I think the car
was actually really good, and I think Great Waller makes
some really good cars. But yes, I scraped the shit
out of this. It's very, very embarrassing.

Speaker 1 (32:05):
Oh I haven't you know, touched would But like if
you're driving a lot of cars, it's a matter of time.

Speaker 2 (32:10):
Do you want to see the photo?

Speaker 1 (32:11):
Oh yeah, Oh, let me have a look at it.
I am. I can see the pain in your face.

Speaker 2 (32:16):
Oh wow.

Speaker 1 (32:17):
Oh no, I thought it was a bit of paint. Nah, No,
that's body wine.

Speaker 2 (32:22):
I properly fucked it.

Speaker 1 (32:23):
No, that's that hurts a bit.

Speaker 2 (32:26):
Yeah. Can you see the amount of room I had? Yeah? Yeah, yeah, No,
it was crazy. It is.

Speaker 1 (32:31):
But this is why I don't take out anything that's
a luxury car because the cost of repairs if you
mess it up, would financially ruined me.

Speaker 2 (32:40):
Yeah, it wasn't look that I owned it. It was fine.
They were good about it. We did what we had
to do.

Speaker 1 (32:45):
But ah, yeah, this is the thing, Like it is
hard when you were driving a car that is not
your car, and especially if you're changing them, often driving
their ex ninety. I was really anxious about that car
because that was a very large car and it felt
big on the roads, big suv, a lot of go,
a lot of guts. But I like taking that into
a car park. If I've got a press car, often

(33:06):
just don't go into car bucks because it's like, I
can't be certain, not just me, that someone isn't going
to push a trolley into it. And it was a
nice enough car that I didn't want to bug it up.
Like it was really nice inside, really nice outside. Like
I've got to reall, I've got to return this in
one page.

Speaker 2 (33:21):
It's such a it's such a brilliant car. We've got
an XC forty. I love it. It's such a great, little, cheap,
run around car. And it's funny because I look to
spec we've got very basic. I think it's cloth seats
and stuff like that, which I was fine with. I
think the cloth seats in that one looks looks pretty good.
But yeah, I would consider these. I would consider now,

(33:42):
Like we were talking about this off air. When I
was a kid, of Volvo was the big fat station wagon. Yeah,
station Wagon, that's that family car. And it was this
safe car. But it was Swedish and it was it
wasn't I wouldn't have called it shit, you know what
I mean. I wouldn't have called it like Hyundai in
the early days.

Speaker 1 (34:00):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, Look, it was never a bad car.
I just never found out a particularly sexy car.

Speaker 2 (34:04):
You know.

Speaker 1 (34:04):
It's like it didn't have any of the sort of
the sexiness. And I still don't necessarily think of it
as a sexy car, but I can say that was
a luxury car, and as someone who has worked an
audio and who really cares about sound, they hand it
over and they're like, I reckon, this will have the
best sound system that you ever have. And it did
an electric car that's a bit quiet, plus all the

(34:26):
speakers that they had. I was listening to my own
music that's on my phone, hearing stuff that I hadn't
heard own music.

Speaker 2 (34:33):
Can you imagine tell me about your music.

Speaker 1 (34:40):
If I did have a rap album, which I cannot
stress enough I do not have, you couldn't water board
that information out of me.

Speaker 2 (34:46):
I wonder what your rap album would be called. I
reckon it would be called to be Mild.

Speaker 1 (34:51):
It'd be like milk toast the album fat.

Speaker 2 (34:54):
Genus, fat Geese. That's just the title of the album,
that's not.

Speaker 1 (34:59):
Yeah exactly, Yeah all right, yeah, yeah, yeah, we'll work
on the rap, right. But yeah, I was listening to
it and like, I'm a sound person. I like, you know,
good headphones or whatever, but I'm like, I'm hearing stuff
from this car sound speaker, which I think it has
really good high ends and really good and really nicely
sort of balanced sound system. So I rate that. I
rate that if you can get your hands on one

(35:19):
of those, give them a go.

Speaker 2 (35:20):
Yeah, I think I.

Speaker 1 (35:21):
Think I was like, this is the standard. It is
very big, but it did set the standard. I think
for suv electric cars.

Speaker 2 (35:27):
They are big, aren't they. But they've got yeah, everything
in them needs to be there. They're so good with
the storage, they're so good. I think nowadays I would
consider Volvo like just a sexy, stylish luxury brand and
a luxury car. And I think they're doing far out
that ex thirty and that little run around that they've done.
That's a great little car. A bit small, but yeah,

(35:48):
I mean they look great on the roads. Paul not
so much of a fan, but I've got a lot
of love for the for the Volvos. Yeah, I reckon
they're great.

Speaker 1 (35:56):
You're in an electric car at the moment.

Speaker 2 (35:58):
Oh yeah, we should talk about the five s ev Now.

Speaker 1 (36:02):
I haven't driven. I've never driven an MG. I was
supposed to. Actually, on the topic of Snaffoo's I was
supposed to drive Snaffoo Little issues, little issues.

Speaker 2 (36:10):
I was spoken up words today.

Speaker 1 (36:12):
I'm not making up words. I've just got a good vocabulary.
I'm sorry. I'm trying to try to bring grifter and
snaffo sounds like saying.

Speaker 2 (36:20):
I'm playing on kiss. He's the latest out of Shaboozy
and chef.

Speaker 1 (36:24):
I'm trying to I'm trying to bring up the tone.
I'm trying to help lives.

Speaker 2 (36:28):
That's bloody, that's carrying.

Speaker 1 (36:29):
I'm sorry, but yeah, we I were supposed to have
an MG and then I think something happened to the
MG that the I supposed to be driving. Yeah, yeah,
that was it, and so I never I've never actually
driven an MG, but they feel like they're releasing a
new car every week. Those guys.

Speaker 2 (36:44):
Here's what I say about the MG. I remember when
they came out with the mg hs and all that
sort of stuff, and I'm talking like seven eight years ago,
they were releasing cheap SUVs and they were selling really well.
And for me at that time, I was a bit like,
ho hum, whatever. They've got their thing going on and
they kind of serve a purpose. So now what they've

(37:07):
done is they're bringing out these cars that are well
priced and their quality and I'm not like, this isn't
pissing in anyone's pocket. I'm just literally stating, you can
check for yourself. They're brought out a fleet where one
all the news design language has changed, and I feel
like they're settling on these cars that are just doing

(37:29):
really well in their space. So you look at say
whether it be the HS or the ZS Hybrid Plus,
I had that for a while. That was a great car.
The MG Sedan I'm not a huge fan of, but
everything else what they're putting out is just really great
stuff for their space, well priced, well designed, And what

(37:51):
I think it's allowing them to do is put out
these cars that are kind of like, oh, all right,
that's a bit wow. Cool, you're actually doing that. So
that was like the MG Cyberster, for instance, Like that
ev it's a two door convertible sports car. The dealership
guy called it a supercar. He's like one hundred and
ten thousand. It's not a bad price for a supercar.

(38:13):
Shut up, sir, no, I love that.

Speaker 1 (38:15):
That's cute. This isn't as when they've got when they
drink the kool aid. Yeah, it's nice when they drink
the co but.

Speaker 2 (38:20):
It is that. Having said that, the cyber Stories, I
reckon it's a great car. It's so fun and it's
it's fast, and I actually think it's worth the dollars.
But what I'm trying to say is everything else that
they're put in in their space is is quality and
it's worth the price. So the MG five s EV
depending on spec, aroundabout between forty and forty seven thousand

(38:41):
drive away, as well two battery types and range, the
forty nine killer what hour battery and the I think
it's a sixty two killer what hour battery somewhere along there.
So you're going to get anywhere between sort of three
hundred and thirty five and four hundred and thirty five
kilometers WLTP. Just for transparency, I had the tops back,

(39:03):
which I think is like the essence. I mean, you're gettingses,
not as good as a Genesis has everything going on
to like the faux lever seeds, the heated steering wheel,
which I know.

Speaker 1 (39:15):
You love fucking love heated steering wheel. Yes, oh god,
I wish my car had a heated steering whe I've
got the heated seats.

Speaker 2 (39:22):
That's oh yeah, oh yeah, it's last.

Speaker 1 (39:24):
I aspire to.

Speaker 2 (39:25):
That panoramic sunnary for electric tailgate, all the all the
who ha, they're taking this, by the way, the three
sixty camera, the wireless phone charging, wireless Apple car play
as well. Here's what I'll say, Like forty seven thousand dollars,
you're getting all that in an EV that's driving really well,
and it feels lucks. It feels way more expensive than
it is. It drives really well as a get around towner,

(39:48):
picking up kids, doing your daily stuff. It is just mint.
It is bang on for what it's supposed to do.
It's serving its purpose so well. The tech in this,
I will say, there's two things that pissed me off
about tech. Now, there's all the bings and bongs that
we all hate that. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I hate that.

Speaker 1 (40:04):
The first thing you get when you get into a
new car, what do you do?

Speaker 2 (40:07):
You turn it off? You turn it off.

Speaker 1 (40:09):
It's like, can we just.

Speaker 2 (40:10):
Look it's got all the tech and the cool thing
I do love about this is literally with one swipe,
you can go swipe, save it to your favorites button.
You got the favorites button, so then anytime you're in,
all you're doing is just pushing the favorites button which
is on the steering wheel, and it's all gone. It's
not all gone, like you pick and choose what you want,
but the annoying stuff is gone.

Speaker 1 (40:30):
So yeah, I hate lane assist in ninety percent of
the cars. Like the amount of times lane assist has
tried to drive me into oncoming traffic. It's not a lot,
but it's enough.

Speaker 2 (40:41):
The little jolts, yeah, like stop it, stop it.

Speaker 1 (40:44):
Yeah, Like when it's when you're driving next to a
you know, a really big truck for example, and you're
in a big car and it's like, oh, I think
you should be further along. That's like, no, no, I reckon.
I don't want to be under the wheels of that truck.
I think I've got this one. Like, let me. I
hate I hate fighting cars.

Speaker 2 (40:57):
Yeah, who think that?

Speaker 1 (40:58):
You know they're driving better than And I've never had
it save me because I don't know about you, but
I don't drive off the road that often.

Speaker 2 (41:06):
Oh I do. I drive into car parks all the time.
You've probably noticed. Yeah. No, this thing is packed full
of the safety tech, which is customizable. The one big
plus for this car, and I think a lot of
them aren't doing, is a lot of tech these days
is getting in built in the screen, which is the
most annoying af thing ever. Right, we all agree, we

(41:27):
don't want to be fumbling around. What they've done is
at the bottom of the screen. It's kind of hard
wired in, so you've got everything you need at that
one touch. Things like heated seats, heated steering wheel. The
climate control is physical and it's bloody easy. The volume
there is actually physical, that's all there. Everything's kind of

(41:48):
that you definitely need is physical, and everything that you
want to have that you don't want to have to
fumble in the tech is all hard wired in. It's
probably one of the best infotainment setups I reckon I've
ever used. But EV forty seven grand, top of the range.
So far, so good. I think if I was to
give it a bit of a stab, possibly driving ranges

(42:10):
getting to me so one hundred percent is getting me
around about three hundred and ninety k's, which it's published
as about four point thirty, which is a bit concerning.
I'm going to have to check that out. I suspect
it could be a fault. I'm not sure, but yeah,
MG five s EV so far big tics.

Speaker 1 (42:30):
Yeah, come on, getting in one.

Speaker 2 (42:31):
You need to get anyone.

Speaker 1 (42:32):
Yeah, I mean, look, when you are like relatively new
to the game, as I am, a lot of this
is just getting as into as many cars as possible,
so you have like a sense of what is on
the road and you can start sort of building a
mental library of like, oh well this, this drove well
in this way, but you know, compared to this and whatever.
So it's funny. There is a there is a little
game that I've noticed that you can play with most

(42:53):
car riders or car journals, which is who do you
think will.

Speaker 2 (42:56):
Be divorced first?

Speaker 1 (43:00):
That's easy though, that's an easy one. But if you
if you're you know, pick on my peers. The marriage
is Like I said, I am new to this game.
I cannot do that. Give me another year and then
we'll go.

Speaker 2 (43:13):
We're going to start bitching about it.

Speaker 1 (43:14):
But the of the new Chinese cars that have entered
the market, like who do You reckon? Will be still
in the game.

Speaker 2 (43:21):
He dominated time by d We're.

Speaker 1 (43:23):
Still in there.

Speaker 2 (43:23):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (43:24):
By d MG is one that comes up a lot
as well.

Speaker 2 (43:26):
Yep, yes, but they're not specializing in just evs.

Speaker 1 (43:30):
No, no, but just Chinese cars full stop. Chinese cars
who have come into the market, because as we all know,
there's been a huge influx. Who will actually be here
in ten years.

Speaker 2 (43:38):
It's tricky because like even Volvo for instance, is a
Chinese car. They're just like masking as a Swedish car.

Speaker 1 (43:44):
Yeah so, but of the of the newer entrany, so
like will a Cherry be around you? Reckon? I think
Cherry is going to be saying.

Speaker 2 (43:50):
I think Cherry's doing really well. I think MG is
doing great, but they've been in the market for a
long time. By D for me, would be probably this
safest bet out of all of them. I think if
you're going to bet on car brands that won't be
here in five to ten years, I'd be surprised if

(44:11):
Leap Motor are still kind of floating about. I had
their C ten and that is easily the worst car
I've ever test. Oh my god, it's just I hated it.
I hated it so much. It's so clumsy, it's undercooked.
It's not ready, it's not ready for the market. It's
like the user experience is just who was the focus

(44:33):
group when they were putting this thing together? Because it's
so poorly put together. The card, which I know Paul loves,
but I hated it. The card is like.

Speaker 1 (44:42):
I find cards really tricky.

Speaker 2 (44:44):
Cards, and your mobile phone. We're past that don't have
a mobile phone that's going So this card isn't proximity sensing.
It's literally you've got to tap it on the side mirror.
And by the way, it is that happy Gilmore tippity
tap tap tappy and it's your fucking around with it
for so long. What else did I hate about it?
It's got no wireless Apple Car Play, It's got none.

(45:06):
In fact, it's it's rare.

Speaker 1 (45:07):
Actually it's taking. It's hard to find a.

Speaker 2 (45:08):
Car that has In fact, it's got no Apple Car
Play or Android Auto, so it's got none. None of that.
You literally have to use whatever their elite motor apps are.
The boot was a faff around. Yeah, I just look,
I didn't like it. It's been a lot.

Speaker 1 (45:20):
It's kind of refreshing though, because I've had this conversation
before with other people. It is rare, I think these
days to get into a car, whe're like, that's a
bad car. And this is one of the challenging things
if you're writing about this industry, is that you get
into it and it's like it's another above average car.
Like it's rare that you get something that I think
is exemplary and it's even rareer to get something. We're like,

(45:40):
this is a lemon. Like, we don't have lemons in
the way that we used to have lemons. At least
we don't when they're brand new. After five six seven years,
that's when they may become lemons. But we don't get
them for five six seven years. We get them for
two weeks. So it's kind of hard to say these
days that was that was trash.

Speaker 2 (45:55):
Yeah, I think that Zekra are good. I think they've
based themselves really well. I think they've got good found
They've obviously got a few little improvements here and there.
I think that mainly goes into software for me as
a personal thing. But yeah, I think the established one.

Speaker 1 (46:08):
What about Jacu?

Speaker 2 (46:09):
Jacu are good. I haven't had too much experience with them.
I've had a little flutter, and I think they're putting
together something really good. They certainly look good. Are they
owned by the same people who own land Rover?

Speaker 1 (46:22):
I do not have an answer to that off the
top of my head. Let's ask because we trust that.

Speaker 2 (46:28):
Yeah, I do. Let's try it. Let's give it a go. Hey,
is the owners of the car Jacu? Do they own
land Rover.

Speaker 1 (46:39):
Yes, Jaguar and land Rover are actually part of the
same parent company. They were both acquired by Tatumotors, an
Indian automotive giant, back in two thousand.

Speaker 2 (46:49):
Oh thank you, okay, Papa dumb.

Speaker 1 (46:51):
I think that what a lot of these people are
going to be fighting for is just brand awareness, because
we've had this like influx of car brands and it's
actually hard to keep up on you know, who's got
what and where they sit in the market and whether
they're good. And I reckon that there will be a
reckoning at some point or another. There's going to have
to be some of these brands are gonna have to
sheath off because there's just too much. I think there
are more cars than there are people looking to buy
cars at this moment.

Speaker 2 (47:12):
So who do you reckon is going to stick around?

Speaker 1 (47:13):
I think MG And I would also say, well, obviously byd.

Speaker 2 (47:17):
They're just the sales are killing.

Speaker 1 (47:19):
And they're doing interesting things.

Speaker 2 (47:21):
Also, like the biggest ev car manufacturer in China, and
they have been for years. They've got a lot of
money behind them, and they're one of the few that
are kind of manufacturing everything every part of their car.
They manufacture themselves.

Speaker 1 (47:33):
I spoke to someone who worked at BYD and they
were like, oh, we got to go to a tour
of the factory, right and it's like you arrive at
the factory, the factory is the size of a city
and it's like, oh, okay, well to go get your pass,
you first have to get on the BYD monorail because
it's so large you can't walk there. So like it's
got its own sort of like transport system internally because

(47:53):
it's just and like it defies the imagination of someone
in Australia where you know, where we don't really do
manufactor how ridiculously huge and how much money is going
into this. So I think b White at this point
too big to fail.

Speaker 2 (48:06):
Yeah, absolutely, Cherry as well. They're making quality stuff and
it's being.

Speaker 1 (48:12):
Well received like I was in the Ti Go four,
I think, and for the price of what it is,
no wonder where losing cars like the eagerness, because how
could you how could you possibly compete on price? Like
it's just that the what is a cheap car has
now really fundamentally changed.

Speaker 2 (48:27):
I'll have the double check, but I think in South
Africa they've launched I think It's like Emota and Cherry
are treated as two separate things, and I think Cherry
is known as like a luxury car brand over there,
which is so wild considering like what they've launched here,
the same car, same sort of stuff at an amazing price.

Speaker 1 (48:48):
It is really hard I think for the Korean car
manufacturers to sort of work out who they are in
this market, Like what is cheap has just been redefined,
and it's really hard.

Speaker 2 (48:56):
I think it's great though. I think it's good. I
think it's bringing on more competition. I think it's people
in brand new cars, in safe cars, and cars with
big warranties like that MG. I hate to bring it
up again, but the MG five s ev that was
like a ten year warranty.

Speaker 1 (49:11):
I think the thing is like a warranty. Yeah, And
the same thing for the Tigo It's got like a
seven year warranty something ridiculous. But a warranty is only
so good as the parts being available and is it.

Speaker 2 (49:25):
Yeah. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (49:25):
So it's like when these things start to as all
cars inevitably have their issues and whatnot, will they actually
be fixable and serviceable. I think that that is that
the next big test. And you might get people to
buy your car once, but if you give them bad
service and the parts aren't available and they're on a
back order for four years, then what happens? And that
is the true test of a car. And they haven't

(49:47):
been on the roads long enough for us to know that.

Speaker 2 (49:49):
I think, look at this stamping it down. You're like
the young event of car chournalism.

Speaker 1 (49:55):
Thank you so much. Yeah, just don't just no one
in fact check anything I say. Okay, if we can
all agree on that, I sound very convincing.

Speaker 2 (50:01):
Yeah, I think it's good. Do you know what I
loved you had? You had a rant on your on
your socials the other day, right, so many Yeah, yeah, sorry,
but it was one of my favorite things I like
to look at on YouTube, and it was I don't
know if I'm allowed to say it, but it's the
fat chicks at disney Lands.

Speaker 1 (50:19):
Plus sized park hoppers.

Speaker 2 (50:21):
Leave them alone, sorry, leave them alone, the large ladies
of Disneyland, right, and they test out like the different
food they test out the different foods and like the rides,
and it's like it's incredible. They'll be like, Okay, the
Triple Stack was okay, and the Splash Mountain ride was okay,

(50:42):
but if you have and they'll pan the camera down
if you have a look at me. It's been giving
me thy rash.

Speaker 1 (50:48):
I haven't seen them talking about thy rash. I think
I think it's being mean.

Speaker 2 (50:51):
I mean, like I like it. If you if you
can't the whole thing, you're dick it under your rampit
it'll keep one for a couple of hours.

Speaker 1 (51:00):
For people are listening. That is so unfair, you know what.
They're just a bunch of fat chicks who were who
were just like, hey, I'm fat, Like here's what the
experience is. You might fit in this ride, you might
not fit in this ride. And I and here's the thing,
I've got skin in the game. I used to be
a fatty, right, not not plus sized park hopper fat
to be.

Speaker 2 (51:15):
Fair about like we are we talking.

Speaker 1 (51:17):
Look, I reckon, I'm about sixty three or four kilos
now right and I would have been about eighty six.

Speaker 2 (51:24):
That's all right, that's me now, yeah.

Speaker 1 (51:26):
But like I didn't carry it well, so like I
was festive.

Speaker 2 (51:29):
Have you got a photo?

Speaker 1 (51:30):
I do, but I have to dig it out. It
will put it in the show notes.

Speaker 2 (51:33):
Can we fat?

Speaker 1 (51:34):
Stephanie Stephan, it's like a video and it's more that
it's more as well as an eighteen year old. I
just I looked like a fifty year old woman who'd
gone through a couple of hard divorces, actually had two
teenage sons, which she just didn't like.

Speaker 2 (51:49):
Yeah, I didn't like her. No, no, recent shut up
and playing your fucking PlayStations. Steph's got to get back
from bloody.

Speaker 1 (51:56):
I wouldn't have to work so hard if your dad
didn't leave me for that twenty year old. Eh. Anyway,
So like that, that was the.

Speaker 2 (52:05):
Like, I'm not I'm making fun a little bit. I agree,
but I genuinely think it's just very it's just very
entertaining stuff.

Speaker 1 (52:12):
Like they're just like what's nice about them is they're
charismatic women who are actually have good chemistry. But you
go into the comments and people are just so mean
in the comments, like the bilogy costs so little.

Speaker 2 (52:24):
Just be nice. Come on, come on, if they're putting
themselves out there like that, they've got a bloody they're gonna.

Speaker 1 (52:32):
Like just for existing. They're not existing now they just
say like, hey, we're fat. People were at a theme park.
We thought this and everyone's like, oh they lose their minds.

Speaker 2 (52:41):
No, no, no, they're doing more than that. They're going this
is if you're if you're like a pluck, what do
I say? What's the correct thing?

Speaker 1 (52:46):
By the way, they call themselves a plus size pack,
but like you for coppers. But you can you know,
fat is a descriptive work. Okay, you know I can
say I was fat, and I can say that those.

Speaker 2 (52:54):
Women are fat? Am I fat? Can I say fat?

Speaker 1 (52:56):
I don't think you're fat.

Speaker 2 (52:57):
I think I'm fat. I reckon, I can fat? Okay,
and I reckon that, ye ship. Anyone who sees my
like reviews on install where I'm just doing this selfie thing.

Speaker 1 (53:11):
The millennial high angle, Yeah yeah, yeah, they can tell.

Speaker 2 (53:15):
And the amount of times I've got to breathe, I
reckon I can classify as fair.

Speaker 1 (53:20):
I think that there is actually a few interesting studies
that if you are mean to people on the internet
and just you know, like just say mean things, you
are statistically more likely to be a cunt in real life.
So we can but like you know, if you if
you if you're an asshole online, you're probably an asshole
in real perl probably like just just so just if
you have the choice between being an awful person online

(53:42):
or just seeing that and being like, ah, whatever, I'm
going to let that go. And I don't actually have
to be an arm in which case, in which case,
like you choose the second option.

Speaker 2 (53:52):
It is a bit I feel like, I feel like
this is going.

Speaker 1 (53:53):
To go up online. I'm just going to get a
bunch of mean comments.

Speaker 2 (53:57):
No, no, no, no, what about those guys? Have you
seen that fairly who goes to like Costco AND's like
a double chocolate chip cookie. We're trying it right now.
I love America. I love it.

Speaker 1 (54:07):
No wonder you like the Yukon den. Yeah, I'm seeing it.

Speaker 2 (54:11):
I'm taking that thing. Cars.

Speaker 1 (54:13):
Yeah, look, it's just And the weird sort of dichotomy
of me is that I love cars, and I love
like big cars and stupid cars and petrol and whatever.
And I also like EV's But you know, I'm a
bit of a dirty tree hugging greeny as well, and
I just try not to think about that. But there
is something about the ridiculous consumption of America which I
find very entertaining and I'm kind of admire. It's like,
look at you, guys, that's exactly what I care about.

Speaker 2 (54:35):
Just get in. There's what I'm talking about with the
plus iosed pack.

Speaker 1 (54:37):
Yeah, and the yukondinyality like yeah that is that is
as big in as of Knoxes as a car. It's
good for you.

Speaker 2 (54:42):
Yeah, you did it. I wonder if they drive a yukondinale.

Speaker 1 (54:45):
Oh, they'd have to.

Speaker 2 (54:49):
See I did say that I'm allowed to. I'm allowed
to have the tables have turned.

Speaker 1 (54:53):
Oh, now I'm the bad guy. Sorry for anyone who
actually wanted to hear about cars in that bit.

Speaker 2 (55:00):
No, that's what we're all about. You're putting this podcast
on some sort of a pedestal. We barely talk about cars,
all right, Yeah, will get along.

Speaker 1 (55:07):
I feel like I listened to you guys once when
and I said, they know what they talk about. They're
kind of talking about car.

Speaker 2 (55:11):
Yeah, we'll get we'll get to cars eventually. Yes, But
there's a lot of like wading through the ship and
just just crap that we talk about.

Speaker 1 (55:18):
But hey, if you do want to listen to me
rand about dumb shit on Instagram at Koomball's Koomballs at Koomballs,
my last name is Koomb's Koomballs is mine?

Speaker 2 (55:27):
How we spelling that m B l E S. You
know you're going to get a whole heap of men
following you.

Speaker 1 (55:34):
Like you know what, I'm always I'm always happy to
have new symps.

Speaker 2 (55:39):
Have you ever got like a creepy dam.

Speaker 1 (55:43):
I've got a really nice one once from a guy
who was like, I just want to pay you to
exist And I'm.

Speaker 2 (55:46):
Like, ah no, but not what does that mean? You
to exist?

Speaker 1 (55:49):
Let's just pay me to exist? And I'm like, but
then I was like, look at this profile. I'm like,
oh man, you're not rich enough to do that, Like
you can't.

Speaker 2 (55:56):
Is that a nice way of going, Hey, here's two
hundred bucks, which you No.

Speaker 1 (56:00):
No, it wasn't even like you should have an only fans.
It's like, you know, he was probably like a little
pay pig. I don't want to take money from someone who's.

Speaker 2 (56:07):
I totally will and I'm open to that ship. Yeah,
if you want to pay me. Hey, by the way,
if anyone's listening and wants to DM and pay me
two hundred bucks, I will.

Speaker 1 (56:14):
You'll take the money, I will get my ill do
a little dance for it.

Speaker 2 (56:16):
I will get my butt out, I'll get my butthole
and I'll.

Speaker 1 (56:19):
Be up and I will give you two hundred dollars
to not see your butthole?

Speaker 2 (56:23):
Would you get? Yeah, pay me to bucks. Right now
I'm getting I'm getting my ass out.

Speaker 1 (56:27):
It's like, yeah, I worried to Yeah like that, that's
how you could actually make money. Yeah, it's like reverse
only fans.

Speaker 2 (56:33):
Yeah exactly.

Speaker 1 (56:34):
It's like every day I get two hundred.

Speaker 2 (56:36):
Bucks, I get two undred bucks.

Speaker 1 (56:38):
I'm not going to show you my bunghole.

Speaker 2 (56:39):
Yeah, I'm going to threaten. I'm going to threaten to
get my dick out. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (56:43):
Yeah, that's why I reckon new business models.

Speaker 2 (56:45):
But I want three hundred bucks to keep it in.

Speaker 1 (56:50):
I reckon people would.

Speaker 2 (56:52):
Pay for the health and safety of people. Please, we
do not want to see your tiny pinos.

Speaker 1 (56:59):
Yeah. Anyway, this is the next iteration of the Driver's Show.

Speaker 2 (57:03):
Yeah, whatever it is. We're wrapping up, by the way.
I feel like we've talked about have we talked enough?
Have we missed anything? I don't know, do you know?
So Paul's been away everywhere, and one of the places
he was at is Goodwood because he loves a little
good Wood, and I was five kinds of jealous. So

(57:24):
what I've kind of done is I'm making it my
little New Year's resolution. Oh right, yeah, So I know
it's like we're mid year, but I kind of said
to myself, so this time next year, I'm definitely doing Goodwood. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (57:38):
Do you think that's going to happen?

Speaker 2 (57:40):
See, I've got this thing called radio ratings, and I
don't know if they'll let me go in.

Speaker 1 (57:43):
Yeah, that's the thing. You just have to pull a
really convincing sicky. Yeah, have a little mental breakdown. I
could do that, Yeah exactly, Like.

Speaker 2 (57:52):
That's pretty common in my game, and they'll believe it
coming from me.

Speaker 1 (57:56):
And then you can do a podcast about men's depression
or something, and then then you're.

Speaker 2 (58:00):
We can talk about our problems. Yeah exactly. I have
said that to Paul so many times. I said, if
we're going to get this podcast up, you need to
start fucking crying. I need you to talk about your
mental health as I need you to share. I need
you to be vulnerable.

Speaker 1 (58:16):
I would love to see him being vulnerable. I don't
know if if Paul could do it.

Speaker 2 (58:20):
We're looking at him right now, we can see the
photo right now. Do you think every morning he looks
in the mirror and just goes, why did Jesus make
me so deformed?

Speaker 1 (58:27):
He has the cold dead eyes of a killer.

Speaker 2 (58:29):
He does. He's very were wolfy, he's very hairy.

Speaker 1 (58:33):
And I actually tried to get writting work for car Expert?

Speaker 2 (58:36):
Did you the ghosted me?

Speaker 1 (58:38):
Oh?

Speaker 2 (58:39):
No, way to reply?

Speaker 1 (58:40):
No, No, it was he well, yes, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 2 (58:43):
But Paul you bitch.

Speaker 1 (58:45):
Well I don't. I don't think I got in touch
with Paul. Actually someone else in the team. But that's fine.
I'll let that go. I now have a few little
places I write for and it goes through.

Speaker 2 (58:54):
Well yeah, yeah, many publications I am.

Speaker 1 (58:57):
I am many well storied publications.

Speaker 2 (59:00):
Hey, before we wrap, you have a three cars to
go into a dream garage. I'd be keen.

Speaker 1 (59:06):
Oh man, that's too hard, No, it's not.

Speaker 2 (59:10):
Let me help you out one classic one EV. Now
here's the deal. I always think at the moment where
I'm at in my headspace, is you kind of it's
like a topic of bad depression game, So you kind
of have to have, like I reckon, it's a good
idea to have like some sort of hybrid or EV,
preferably EV and plus a supercar.

Speaker 1 (59:33):
I honestly I'm honestly stumped by this. If I was
going to go something old, i'd want something a little
bit weird. I think, like nineteen eighties cars really beautiful.
So I would consider like a Mitsubishi Starion, for example,
which is I don't think that was particularly good car
to drive, but the ad campaign for the Starion at
the time was quite like sort of punky, sort of

(59:55):
new wavy, really cool, really sort of retro Japanese campaign
new order. It was quite beautiful in the car itself.
It's funny, how you know, when you're a kid, nineteen
eighties cars look a bit, you know, ridiculous, but now
they're so cool like that sort of like really boxy aesthetic.

Speaker 2 (01:00:10):
You look at even like the Only like I'm a
Porsche fanatic, you look at even like the nine to eights,
they were like what the fuck?

Speaker 1 (01:00:17):
Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah, they look kind of cool now
yeah they do. So I'd want something kind of silly,
you know, Like i'd want a car and like in
good condition, but silly good condition.

Speaker 2 (01:00:26):
EV.

Speaker 1 (01:00:29):
The X ninety is is top of mind, literally because
I was just in it and I haven't driven a
lot of EV, so I know that one is good.
I am a bit of a BMW fan. I would
love to drive some bmwev's.

Speaker 2 (01:00:40):
Probably one that doesn't catch on fire like yours.

Speaker 1 (01:00:44):
To be fair to my car. It's an X one
from like twenty fourteen, so you know it is at
that time where it just catches on fire occasionally. But
I love I'd do the Batist twelve hour, oh every year.
I love the Bathist twelve hour. And the BMW is
the one. We're just shockingly like shockingly beautiful. New M
twos are good, you know, speaking of cars that sort
of grow on you, like the BMW with the sort

(01:01:06):
of toothy grill looked ridiculous, I think when they first
came out and they released something and it looks really absurd,
and then they sort of pull it back a little
bit in later iterations, and so like I think the
X five M is a good looking car like that
looks like a weapon on the road. Yeah, beautiful, like
that really so sharp.

Speaker 2 (01:01:25):
I've been looking at the X three and the X
five and forty eyes and yeah, they look they're just solid,
They're so good.

Speaker 1 (01:01:32):
Yeah. Yeah, yeah, it's a Mercedes New Air Class error
as well, because that would be oh, i'd be interested
to know how that goes.

Speaker 2 (01:01:39):
We don't talk about Mercedes on this podcast, don't we. No,
no no, because my dad got his MERK stolen quite recently.
Really yeah yeah, and Mercedes refused to turn on the
tracking device. It's a whole thing, right, Oh okay, some
of the reels, it's all in there.

Speaker 1 (01:01:55):
Yeah, because the GT you know, AMG Like I find
those really cars like big, big fronthood, so maybe maybe
one of those.

Speaker 2 (01:02:03):
It was really disheartening when all that happened because I
was like, I'm never going to fucking buy a Murger gam.

Speaker 1 (01:02:07):
But and then you see one and you're like, oh,
they're beautiful. Yeah, it's so nice, Like I forgive you.
It's like it's like a on the crazy Hot Girlfriends goal, right,
like it's crazy hot but treat you bad, but so hot.
That's like, I'm sorry, babe, come back to you.

Speaker 2 (01:02:20):
Crazy hot girlfriends never going to bring you a sign
you for lunch, that's the problem.

Speaker 1 (01:02:24):
They're not they're not, but they're so hot. And then
you know you've seen with them and everyone's like wow,
look at that, like look at that, so like that's
that's it.

Speaker 2 (01:02:30):
She's home maintenance cost you a lot of the mechanics I.

Speaker 1 (01:02:33):
Know, yeah hah ha. But but also she's hot. Yeah
I would. I would be considering you know, some AMG
tootle ridiculous thing, any anything BMW would be great. Good
pics yeah yeah, so look I mean good pics, but
also something silly, you know a little silly. It's something,
you know, something that's little drive and ridiculous.

Speaker 2 (01:02:51):
