There's nothing more powerful for a child than having their father publicly declare his love and delight in them, giving them a foundation of identity that helps them navigate life's challenges.

• A father's voice carries a unique authority that no government, program, or institution can replicate
• When God blessed Jacob (Israel), he gained the capacity to bless his son Benjamin
• Your father's words, whether positive or negative, have shaped your identity and outlook
• We can only give away what we've first received – fathers must experience blessing to effectively bless
• The story of Benjamin shows how a father's blessing can transform a "son of sorrow" into a "son of my right hand"
• Even spiritual fathers can speak transformative words that redirect someone's life trajectory
• It's never too late to receive God's blessing or to speak blessing over your children
• Your true identity comes from being God's beloved son, not from your performance, mistakes, or appetites

Hey, welcome.
I am so grateful that you'rehere, excited about sharing this
special show tonight about thepower of a dad's words, of a
dad's voice.
And have you ever wondered why,in our crazy culture right now,

(01:28):
there is so much attack againstyou as a father?
Why is that?
Well, because you carrysomething that the government
will never carry, that the worldwill never carry, that the
devil doesn't have power to do.
And that's your voice, dad, thepower of your words over your
children, over your life, overyour own story.

(01:50):
Just incredible power that youhave in your life.
And when you learn to unlock itand use this little thing
called a tongue for God'spurposes, it can change your
whole family story.
Excited about it here, welcomeParker.
And Christian Isaac, welcomehere.

(02:12):
Let me know what countriesyou're coming from and where
you're—I'd love to find outwhere you're from and so today
we're going to get right intothis, because I promised this to
you, want to deliver this.
I'm speaking to you from mystudio here, the Tandy Studios.

(02:32):
It's kind of an art studio andat the same time it's video and
all these other things.
But it's wonderful to be heretonight on this show and share
with you some things thatcompletely revolutionized my own
family story.

(02:52):
So let's get into the materialhere.
Number one there are you know, actually I'm on the wrong slide.
Here is one of the thingsthat's really there's nothing
more powerful.
I write this in my book theFather You've Always Wanted.

(03:14):
It's a book that we're goingthrough.
If you've not gotten one toread, I encourage you to get one
.
It's got a website and it'sreally a good read and it's
filled with insights to reallyhelp you become the best dad you
can be.
And if you're a mom, like we doon Thursdays at 12 o'clock, you

(03:36):
invite your lady to come.
But the truth is there'snothing more powerful for a
child to have his or her dadpublicly declare his love and
delight over them.
It's something incrediblypowerful when you learn how to
bless your sons, bless yourdaughters, with words that help

(04:01):
them frame out who God has madethem to be.
We're going to explain that abit later.
I mean, can you imagine beingnear Jesus at the top of that
mountain?
There's a great story in 2Peter where Jesus went up with
Peter, james and John on top ofa mountain and there God, the
Father, manifested Himself.

(04:21):
Elijah appeared, moses appearedand the voice of the Father
said over Jesus again this is mybeloved Son, in whom I love you
.
Imagine being in that moment ifyou were Peter or James or John
, right in the midst of thatincredible moment and in hearing
the voice of God the Fatherspeaking over his son, that same

(04:46):
voice that God the Father wantsto speak over your life.
Well, the truth of the matteris that Jesus was never the same
from that moment.
See, there's two times inScripture that records that the
Father was heard when Jesus waswalking on earth, and both these

(05:07):
times it was heard by otherpeople as well, when he spoke to
bless His Son and to name HisSon.
Those two things happen out ofyour mouth, dad.
When you bless your sons or youbless your daughters.
It has a great power.
I mean, think about your ownstory.
How your dad talked to you.

(05:28):
What kind of words did he use?
Did he bless your life?
Did he say the sky's the limit.
There's nothing you can't do.
I'm backing you up with all Igot.
Or was he a broken dad in thathis own father never blessed him
?
See, something happens.

(05:50):
I continue to write here to uswhen our fathers declare their
love and blessing over us theirapproval, and it's another way
of saying we feel seen, we feelcelebrated.
There's nothing like that.
It's like being in a stands ina football game and you see your

(06:12):
dad up there in the standsPowerful, powerful thing.
But to hear your dad say thatthis is what I love about my son
or daughter, that can mark youfor the rest of your life
Powerful, powerful truth andpowerful truth for you as a dad,

(06:34):
for your children right now,and even the way you speak to
your friends.
You're going to have a profoundimpact by the way you use your
voice.
So let me ask you this question.
We have them here in the notes.
How would your life bedifferent today if your dad had

(06:55):
said those same words that Jesusheard?
This is my son, marked by mylove, the focus of my delight.
What would change in your storyand the way you see yourself
right now, the way you love, theway you risk, the way you bless
your own family?
I mean, one of the incrediblebenefits of learning how to do

(07:17):
this, dads, is that if you'llbless your children and speak
life into them, you're going tohear that one day when they do
it to your grandkids, and that'swhat I'm experiencing right now
.
It's one of those incrediblytender moments when I watch my
children that God showed me howto bless their lives.

(07:41):
Now, bless my grandkids, and youknow what it does for
grandchildren it gives them thisfoundation of love.
It gives them this foundationwhere they can risk and go for

(08:01):
life because they're notquestioning about what.
Does my dad think about me?
Think about your own life.
How much you might havewrestled with discovering your
own personal identity.
How has God made me in my life?
What's he called me to do?
And yet you know it's describedthat the boomers came out is

(08:23):
pretty much the me generation.
We've made everything aboutourselves and no matter how much
you pursue the world, or fame,or money, or careers, or even
the failure we have in our life,we can name ourselves by all
those things and miss theincredible power that God has
for us when we learn to get ouridentity from Him, nothing more

(08:51):
powerful than that.
That's actually the secret toour broken culture.
Now, this election isincredibly important, and so go
vote, go vote and vote out ofthe things in God's word that
you believe that the nextadministration should be doing,

(09:11):
and then go vote.
But I'm not here to talk aboutthe voting, because it's going
to happen whether we're worriedabout it or not.
But the issue is, I'minterested in calling out the
most powerful people in ourculture.
And guess what?
It's not the President of theUnited States, not the Congress,

(09:32):
the Senate.
It's not world leaders, it'snot the czars of different
countries.
It's fathers.
Fathers have an incredibleresponsibility, but an
incredible power in the life oftheir children.
No matter how much you thinkyou've blown it, it's never too

(09:54):
late to be a great dad.
It's never too late to be ableto repair and to fix those kind
of things, because you're stillliving.
If you're watching this, you'restill living.
If you're not watching this andyou can't tune in, because
you're still living.
If you're watching this, you'restill living.
If you're not watching this andyou can't tune in, well, I'm
sorry.
So it's never too late.
Good to see you, greg.

(10:14):
Welcome, greg Fisher.
And so you know, what's powerfulabout learning to use our voice
and to bless our children isthat it can change an entire
story of somebody.
I want to share with you thestory in the Bible.

(10:34):
I've probably shared withbefore, but it's a.
You know.
There's this place wherethere's an undeniable picture of
what happens when God blessessomebody and then when that same
father takes that same blessingand then blessings a son and

(10:58):
the result of what that does intheir life.
So we're going to look at ittonight.
So we're going to look at ittonight.
And so there's a.
You know Jacob, whose name inthe Bible can mean trickster.
You know he was a greatdealmaker and God had blessed
his life, but there wassomething missing with him.

(11:18):
He went out on a journey andended up encountering the
pre-incarnate Christ, wrestleswith the angel of the Lord and
basically says I'm not going tolet you go until you bless me.
And so Jacob wanted a blessing.
You know there's somethinginside of each one of us that

(11:42):
when we're totally honest, wecan't make it in our own
strength.
We've got to be willing to bethat honest, because that's the
truth.
You and I, just in ourmanliness, can't be everything
that our children need us to be.
I wish that were so.
Then we'd write a book and we'dtalk about.
I did it my way.

(12:04):
But the truth of the matter foryou and me is that we need God
in our story.
I shared with you a few weeksago that when Enoch became a
father—they're in Genesis whenthey talk about him—you know the
guy that was taken up by Godand never died but it says that
when he became a father hewalked with God for the rest of

(12:28):
his days.
There's something aboutfathering for us as men that
when we enter into that processand maybe that's fathering
somebody else's kids, being astepdad or being a mentor
there's something aboutfathering that requires us to

(12:48):
connect to God in such a waythat we're able to catch and to
speak His blessing to thosechildren in front of us.
And when that moment happens intheir story, something—it's
like holy superglue from heavenidentity superglue sticks upon

(13:12):
that child.
Now, those same children, manyof them raised in the church.
Today, outside of the churchtoday, the confusion, the
multiple-gender offering thatthe enemy offers to children,
all those things the gaylifestyle and now the trans
lifestyle and all those kind ofthings is an attempt by children

(13:35):
to name themselves.
And the only way that you canname yourself outside of God is
to name yourself based on yourappetite, based on what turns
you, on what.
You end up thinking that you'rethis person because that's an
appetite in you.
The only problem is that it'sshort-lived and they don't end.

(13:57):
Well, I mean, nobody talksabout that in that community,
and I have an incredible heartand have ministered for years in
the gay community and seen, without exaggeration, hundreds
and hundreds of men and womenwho thought their true identity

(14:21):
was to be gay.
And when they met God, theFather, through His Son Jesus,
and learned about their trueidentity in Christ, they got a
brand new beginning and a brandnew story, so much more than
anything the world wants tooffer.

(14:42):
And so that's a powerful thing.
When God does that, it's apowerful thing and it could be
that your identity is in makingmoney in your job, your identity
is all kinds of things in yourlife, but if you're not
connected to the true identitythat God has called you to, then
you're going to suffer.
Now this story goes on.

(15:03):
Has called you to, then you'regoing to suffer.
Now this story goes on and itsays that he's wrestling with
the angel of the Lord at thePadder Ram and I'm wearing a Ram
jersey tonight in honor.
And this angel blessed him andGod said to him your name is
Jacob no longer, but your nameshall be called Jacob, but

(15:28):
Israel shall be your name.
So God renames this child,israel.
Just imagine the impact of that.
Just imagine the impact of that, of having God himself rename

(15:49):
you in your life and you knowIsrael.
Actually, one of thetranslations, the Hebrew
translation of that word, isfather of many nations, because
he actually said to him that'swhat you're going to do with
your life, that God's going tobless you in such a way where
you're going to be a father ofmany nations and his sons grew
up to be the tribes of Israel, the 12 tribes.

(16:12):
Amazing story in itself.
But God started by changing hisname with a blessing, and so he
called his name Israel, blessing, and so he called his
name Israel.
And then the blessing that youreceive in your life maybe it's

(16:37):
a blessing from a coach or aperson or a great teacher comes
up to the level of the authorityand the power that they have.
But when the Lord, god Almighty, bless you, look what comes
with it.
He says.
So he called his name Israel andGod said to him I am God
Almighty, I am that I am.
Be fruitful and multiply.
And so he gave him this commandthat he's going to be fruitful,

(16:59):
he's going to multiply, andthen he tells him about what's
going to happen.
Multiply, and then he tellsthem about what's going to
happen, and a nation and acompany of nations shall come
from you and kings shall comefrom your own body.
Imagine carrying the blessingof God, the Father, in your life

(17:19):
, where he changes your name andyou carry that inheritance now,
as a son, to be fruitful, tomultiply, and that your children
that come from you will evenbecome kings and queens.

(17:40):
Think about just thepossibility of that, because God
does call us a royal priesthood, a holy nation.
Then he says and the land that Igive to Abraham and Isaac I
will give to you, to Abraham andIsaac, I will give to you.
So God does a land swap rightthere and I will give the land

(18:10):
to your offspring after you.
And so the whole battle that wesee around Israel comes because
God Himself said he's going tobless Jacob, change his name, be
with him, make him fruitful andmultiply, and he's going to
give him a land that nobody elseis going to be able to take, no
matter how many scud missilesthat the opposition shoots.

(18:31):
God gave that land to hisoffspring Great, great picture
in Scripture.
And so now Jacob goes back.
You know he's had thisincredible encounter with the
Lord.
He's going back to get back tohis wife, who's very pregnant

(18:53):
with her next son, and comes inand just has this incredible.
Not only did he have anincredible encounter with the
Lord, he now comes up upon thewagon train and discovers the
biggest shock of his life Hiswife had died, had died and in

(19:23):
her last breath, because it wassuch a hard childbirth, she
called his name Ben-Oni.
Ben-oni in Hebrew means son ofmy sorrow.
I remember when I read thisyears ago and in the process of
learning about all this myself,an incredible power that happens
in us when God really becomesour Father and we learn to

(19:44):
receive His blessing is that heloves changing names.
And yet how many times dochildren raised only by a mom
suffer and live the life ofsorrow because their dad isn't
there to bless them and helpthem discover who God's called

(20:08):
them to be?
See that role right there, myfriend, as a father.
Nobody gets that, even ifyou're divorced and you're the
birth dad, you carry somethingpowerful that your children need
.
They might call you every badname in the book because of the

(20:29):
result of the divorce or theseparation, or their anger or
their struggle.
You still carry something.
Or their anger or theirstruggle, you still carry
something.
Part of what we do in ourministry is reunite dads with
their kids and help them how tonavigate that, and it is.
We've had hundreds, if notthousands, of families restored

(20:50):
when fathers learn the powerthey have and their ability to
not only receive a blessing fromGod but then to give that same
blessing to their children.
And so here comes Jacob, whosename is what Israel now.
He now has the capacity fromGod to bless his son because he

(21:16):
got a blessing, to bless his sonbecause he got a blessing.
That's the way it works.
When God blesses you withsalvation, and by grace, you've
been saved through faith.
At least any man should knowit's a gift of God.
The Bible says You've got thegift of salvation in you, and so
when God calls you to go sharethat gift with somebody else,

(21:38):
well, guess what?
You have that gift in you fromChrist.
And so when you go share Christwith a friend or you go share
Christ with an enemy, you carryan authority.
That's why you might be beingpersecuted.
Right now, christians are beingpersecuted.
Well, good to see you, emmanuel, so glad you're here.

(22:02):
And GFF not sure what your nameis?
Well, welcome to our livebroadcast.
But something happens inside ofyou when you've received that
gift of salvation from God.
That's how you got saved.
You didn't get saved because itwas your idea.
It was time for you to turnover a new leaf and start a new
chapter in your life and be abetter person.

(22:23):
No, you were saved when youwere still stuck in the grave of
your sin, and the Bible says inRomans 5a that while we were
still dead in our sins I meanuseless Christ died for us.
And how did he?
Not only die for us, but God,the Father, sent the gift of
grace to you and to me toreceive, and when we receive it.

(22:50):
One great thing about salvationis that we can only receive it.
We can't produce it, because ifwe could produce it, we would
brag about how good we are, andif we boast in ourselves, the
Bible says we're going to behumbled.
So it's just bad news to dothat.
So everything that you needfrom God to be a great father,

(23:10):
great husband, great friend or agodly single man getting ready
for the romance of your lifetimeis you got to learn to receive
it from God.
And here's a picture of God, theFather Himself, blessing
through Christ right intoBen-Oni's life.

(23:32):
He changes his name to BenjaminIsrael, changes son's name to
Benjamin, and Benjamin inScripture means son of my right
hand.
He changed him from son of mysorrow, that has no blessing and
only has got a mom there, toson of my right hand.
And I meet guys like that allthe time, every single day, who

(23:56):
have no clue about how amazingthey are to God the Father.
That's why God the Father sentHis Son to not only die in your
place, as the Christ did, sothat you could receive
forgiveness.
He died in your place so youcould also receive the blessing
of His Father.
Jesus even said I am the way,the truth and the life.

(24:19):
No one comes to the Father butthrough me.
He said it's all up so that wecould receive that gift of
salvation, receive that gift ofhis blessing in our life.
Why?
Because, as equipment goes, ifyou're a fireman, you would need

(24:40):
to know how to turn on the hoseand hold it to put out the fire
.
Imagine having the equipment ofbeing able to use your voice
and your life and the way youlive to absolutely bless your
children.
Think about what that would belike.

(25:02):
Think about your own kids rightnow and measuring your own
fatherhood story with them basedon how much they are receiving
from you, because when my kidsaren't receiving from you,
they're receiving something elsefrom somewhere else, and I hear
almost a 007 song dun dun, dun,dun dun.

(25:25):
You know, it's like I got toget back engaged with my sons
and my daughters because theyneed a dad, because they need a
dad, this whole world needs afather, and not only is God the
father, the ultimate father tohis son, he is anointed and
knighted you as a man with thisincredible potential, if you'll

(25:50):
learn how to receive that, foryourself, to be a father maybe a
spiritual father to a kid inyour neighborhood or a friend of
one of your children, to bethat kind of father that
understands that his words, canstart a whole new season in the
life of someone.
I was in an airport, you know, running to catch my plane only

(26:16):
about 15 minutes, and out of thecorner of my eye, I was looking
over and I saw all of theOlympic team.
There's a bunch of Olympicathletes on the way to Europe
for the Olympic Games and therewas a young man there that I saw
and it just there, that I saw,and it just there are times, as

(26:41):
a spiritual father, where Godwill show you somebody that you
can't walk away from.
And I went over to him and Ilooked at him and I said hey,
what are you guys doing?
We're on our way to Olympics.
I'm an ice skater and blah, blah, blah talking.
I went wow, that's awesome.
And I looked at him and I saidyou know, the Lord sent me over
here to you because I'm not surethat you really understand how

(27:01):
amazing you are.
This guy it's like he's likewhoa.
And I said I don't have a lot oftime to talk to you because I
got to make my plane, but here Iwant to give you something.
And I pulled out one of mypreaching Bibles.
I said my sense is that God isgoing to do something so

(27:26):
extraordinary and so deep in youthat your future is going to be
about taking things out of thisgreat book and sharing with
other people.
Taking things out of this greatbook and sharing with other
people.
And he looks at me, you know, like a Labrador.
That's kind of wondering whatthe heck's going on.
And I gave him my Bible.

(27:46):
He goes you're going to give meyour preaching Bible.
I said, yeah, if you'll read itevery day, god will speak to
you.
And then I prayed for him, blessed him and just made my
airplane.
Well, I didn't know whathappened with him, and about two
years after that event, I getthis email.
Hi, ed, this is Mark.

(28:09):
I can't tell you how much mylife has changed since you
stopped and talked to me at theairport.
I wish I could tell you I wonthe gold medal.
I didn't, but we had a greatOlympics and I went home and I

(28:29):
looked at that Bible for a whileand then I started reading it
and I couldn't stop and thatI've given my life to Jesus
Christ.
I gave my life to Christ.
I've been following him, I'vebeen reading it, I've been
telling others about what I'mlearning, and I met the most
amazing girl and have a family, and we've started a family, and

(28:53):
I just want to thank you forstopping for me and giving me a
blessing.
See, that's how powerful yourvoice is, dad, because if I can
do it as an old football player, you can too.
Something happens when wereceive it from God and then

(29:14):
give it away.
So let's go back here to notes.
And so here's Benjamin.
And did you know?
The tribe of Benjamin wasstarted because a father got a
blessing from God, got his namechanged and he changed the name
of his son and the tribe ofBenjamin was formed through the
blessing of Israel on his son.

Speaker 1 (29:38):
Amazing.

Speaker 2 (29:39):
We don't know the length and the breadth and the
depth of what happens with ourchildren, but when we enter in
to receiving God's blessing forus, we have something to give
our kids.
And so it goes on.
The story goes on.
Something to give our kids, andso it goes on.
The story goes on.

(30:00):
And so here's the truth thatyour voice over your kids has
great power to expand theirhorizons or limit them.
Think about those words that agrandfather or a coach, or maybe
your dad, said to you that werelike wow, that's a keeper.
And you still live by it today.

(30:25):
Some of us even live by thosewords from our dad, because our
dad's words have power.
Even when they're negative, wetry to live down those things.
So how God changes that.
God changes that when we lethim become the father we need,
in our story too.
And so think about those placeswhere you've spoke destiny into
your children, and theyreceived it from you.

(30:46):
Those are great days, aren'tthey See?
You know God's promise in 2Corinthians 6.18, I will be a
father to you and you will be mysons and daughters, says the
Lord over the five.
And they're misspelling GodAlmighty, amazing.
God's plan is to be your Father, who fathers you, and the more

(31:13):
you can receive that, the moregrace you carry as a son to be
the father your children needyou to be.
See, the life of Jesus revealssomething.
I wrote this in this book, right here in chapter 5, that
we're looking at right now.
It reveals the differencebetween the God-given dreams and

(31:37):
their false counterparts.
At least twice during Jesus'life, his heavenly Father spoke
audibly and publicly about HisSon, saying this is my Son,
marked by my love, the focus ofmy delight.
That's what he said to Jesus inthe river.
That's what he said in 2 Peter1.17, when Peter, james and John

(32:01):
heard the audible voice of theFather bless his Son.
Well, if Jesus needs that forHis life, how much more do we
need in our story?
Think about the power of thatmoment, what that can mean for
you.
Matter of fact, how do youreceive that?

(32:22):
Well, you can receive it rightnow.
You don't need to somehow haveto be in the Jordan River and to
hear that audible voice of theFather and be back there.
You don't have to just thinkwell, that was just a great
moment for Jesus.

(32:42):
He wants to give that samemoment to you and to I in Christ
.
That's one of the incrediblebenefits of being a beloved son
or being a beloved daughter ofthe Father in heaven.
He's wanted to re-father thechildren of Adam and Eve and
when we're born again, he getshis kids back.

(33:04):
It's amazing.
You get born again with a newbirth father.
He gets his kids back andbegins to bless our lives.
Why is that so important?
Because we can only give awaythose things that we've learned
to receive from God.
God's grace in, god's grace out.

(33:24):
God's Word into us as wereceive it and live it.
God's Word out of us have greatpower to bless our children, to
bless our families, to leadthem that wisdom and all the
benefits of that.
And so maybe you've never hadyour dad bless you and you've
waited for that moment.

(33:45):
You might be watching thisrecording right now, a couple
days from when we recorded this, and you're saying, man, I need
this for me.
Well, I'd love to just praywith you right now, the same
prayer that God the Fatherblessed me with when I began to

(34:05):
discover that, even though mydad was killed in action and my
stepfather did the best job hecould, god the Father wants to
come into our lives to make ushis sons and daughters.
If you're a gal and watchingthis, that he's called us to be,
so just open your hands, wherever you are, if you want a

(34:28):
blessing.
I just want to pray for you andGod, the Father, is going to
bless you tonight.
Father, I thank you for myfriends that are watching, from
whatever country they're in,whether it's recorded, or
they're watching this live, orthey're watching this live, and

(34:56):
I just want to say to yousomething that I think God is
saying to you right now.
And if you have Christ in yourlife and you've received him,
god the Father wants to say thisto you From this moment on,
your name is no longer aboutyour backstory.

(35:20):
It's no longer about what's beenstolen or what your dad
couldn't do.
It's no longer about your sins,no longer about your mistakes
that you've made.
Your life really is no longerabout your success and all those
things you achieved.
Those are worthy things topursue, but from this moment on,
god the Father says that yournew name and your new identity

(35:42):
is that you are my beloved son,in whom I love, and all the
blessing that you need, mybeloved Son in whom I love, and
all the blessing that you need, all the blessing I have in
heaven, in Christ, is yours, andthe Father would say I have

(36:06):
waited for this moment to adoptyou and to make you a son and
Father.
I pray for my friends that arewatching and I pray that you
would bless them, holy Spirit.
I pray you would fall on themright now, wherever they are,
and that you would light them on, father, with their true
identity that we have in you.
And it's not about our role inthe church, it's not about our

(36:31):
jobs, it's not about ourbrokenness, it's not about our
sexual appetites.
Our identity is all about whoseson we are, and we are either
the son of yours, father, orwe're the son of the evil one.
So, lord, we choose to be yoursons and you say you are my

(36:51):
beloved sons and you are mybeloved daughters, says the Lord
, god Almighty.
And all that you need in theinheritance that you've been
waiting for is yours, becauseI'm now your Father in heaven
through my Son, jesus, who Isent so that you could be

(37:17):
adopted in our family.
In Jesus' name, amen, amen,amen.
Has that blessed you tonight?
You received that love to hearback from you If you could leave
me comments.
