Speaker 1 (00:00):
We're going to talk
about the five undeniable
secrets to sky high social mediaengagement.
These are some things that Idefinitely want to talk about,
because I see a lot of people.
They go online, they're postingstuff regularly.
They're not real sure whynobody's liking their stuff.
They're not real sure whythey're not getting any comments
(00:21):
, getting any engagement.
Let's be honest, social mediaengagement is really down across
the board.
It's really down across theboard, but there are some things
that you can do to really makeit better and to really just get
better engagement, and that'smore exposure for you and for
(00:42):
your business.
So we'll definitely be sharinga lot about that today, all
right, so let's go ahead anddive right into it.
Let's talk about our first one,and the first one is you need to
know your audience.
Your audience is looking forvery specific things to help
them in their business orwhatever it is that they're
(01:03):
doing.
If your audience is into weightloss or fitness, you want to be
very, very clear on what it isthat they want.
If your audience is into techstuff, you want to know what
they want.
What are they looking for?
Are they looking for reviews?
Are they looking for thingsthat pertain specifically to
tech, and if you know that, thenyou can create content for that
(01:28):
specific niche.
So knowing your audience isvery important to having success
on social media.
Now, one of the other thingsthat I absolutely love about
social media is that, eventhough you want to know your
audience and share content thatis good for them and that helps
(01:48):
them, social media is also aplace where you share a little
bit about your personal life.
If you go over to my Facebookprofile, you'll notice that I
don't talk business very oftenvery little.
Here and there I certainly do,but I'm always sharing things
about my personal life, thingswith my wife, my daughter,
(02:12):
things we have going on in ourlife.
Sometimes I rant on Facebook, something that annoys me.
Just yesterday, I postedsomething about AI and why AI.
The people who are going tosucceed with AI are the ones
that have a high level ofintegrity, because that is
required today.
(02:32):
There's a little bit of a rantfor me, so if you want to see
that post, head over to myFacebook profile and check it
out.
But the key is you really wantto share a little bit of your
life as well.
There's a reason for that youwant people to get to know the
real you.
Social media is one of thoseplaces where everybody puts on
(02:52):
the best face.
They always put on their bestwhen they're all dressed up,
real nice, and they're out onthe town and they're happy and
this, and that Every once in awhile, maybe share a struggle
that you're going through, maybebe a little vulnerable at times
.
I'm not talking air your dirtylaundry, but I am talking about
(03:14):
being a little bit vulnerable.
I think back to a couple ofyears ago when my dad passed
away and I shared on Facebooksome of the things that I was
going through.
And now I didn't do that justfor engagement.
I did it because I have a lotof friends on Facebook.
I have a lot of family onFacebook.
So I share that stuff, notbecause I'm looking to get
(03:37):
engagement, because I'm lookingto share my life.
I also want people to know that, hey, maybe I've had some
success in my business, but I'malso a human being just like you
.
I'm somebody who's just likeyou that has struggles in life,
and so sometimes you really wantto do that in terms of knowing
your audience.
Your audience, yes, they wantgood content, but they also want
(04:01):
real.
They want people who are realto the bone.
They want people that they canidentify with.
So if you never share yourstruggles, then that is
definitely going to be somethingthat people won't be able to
connect with you.
When people have an emotionalconnection, man, they feel it so
differently they really do theyfeel you so much differently
(04:24):
and it really has an impact inthe long term on your business,
because people do business withthose they know, like and trust,
and if they can trust you, theywill buy from you.
So know your audience.
Number two and we already kindof talked about this, but number
two is to deliver relevantcontent.
(04:44):
So, if you have a specificniche, obviously the goal is to
connect with other people thatare interested in the niche that
you're a part of.
So, again, if you're a healthand wellness person and you're
into health and wellness, it'sprobably a safe bet that you
should go and connect with otherpeople who are involved in
(05:06):
health and wellness.
Okay, if you are involved in,you know whatever other topic
there may be.
If you're into like forsomebody like myself, I love BMX
okay, I love to connect withother people in the BMX
community, so to speak.
I'm in several groups.
I have several friends.
(05:27):
I don't necessarily haveanything to sell in BMX, but I
still like to connect with thosepeople.
So the goal is, when you'reconnecting and you're building a
social media presence, in orderto deliver relevant content,
you have to have an audience whois relevant to what it is that
(05:48):
you're sharing.
So I'll give you a little bit ofan example of how this doesn't.
This doesn't work, okay.
So I had a client many yearsago that I was working with and
we were setting up some, someads for him and he was running a
Facebook likes that now this isa while ago, we don't really do
(06:11):
that a lot anymore, but this isa while ago and he was from
Australia and one of the thingsthat he was doing is he was
running an ad and he writes meone day and he says mark, I'm
getting a lot, I'm getting likeson my Facebook page For one
penny each.
And I'm like dude, that'sawesome, like that's killer.
(06:31):
I'm like but I have a questionfor you like what country are
you targeting?
Like who are you targeting?
And he wrote me back and hesaid people in the Philippines.
And I was like okay, that'scool, but my next question is
can you even sell your productin the Philippines, like, is it
available?
And he writes me back and hegoes no.
(06:52):
And I said then why are youtargeting the Philippines?
Nothing wrong with targetingthe Philippines, but if you
can't sell your product there, then what are you doing?
He's like yeah, I see yourpoint.
So the point is he wasconnecting with people, but he
wasn't connecting with the rightpeople.
So if you're going to build youraudience on your profile or
your page, or how are we goingto do it, you want to make sure
(07:14):
that you're connecting with theright people.
Okay, so that's very, veryimportant.
So, yeah, cheryl, definitelyyou know homeopathic.
So if you, if you want to sharerelevant content with that
audience of people who areinterested in, say, homeopathic
stuff, then you want to findwhere they are on social media.
(07:35):
You want to create relevantcontent to that so that you
attract that audience to you, sothat that audience who's
interested in that type ofcontent will connect and will
start to watch your stuff andconnect with you.
So very, very important,alright.
So number three Okay, and thisis how to get engagement on
(07:55):
social media.
It's all about and you've heardthis word a gazillion times,
okay, a gazillion times and it'sconsistency.
Alright, it's consistency, solet's just quickly review.
Okay, you need to know youraudience, you need to deliver
relevant content to thataudience, and number three is
(08:16):
maintaining consistency.
Now, we have heard this overand over in the past.
If you've been around online, ifyou followed me any length of
time, if you followed Justpeople who are successful in
general, one of the things thatthey do is they are Totally
hardcore, consistent in theactions that they take.
So if they are hardcore, consistent in the actions that
(08:40):
they take, why do you think youcould do something different
without being consistent?
If you want to be successful inanything, it takes consistency
over the long term and, forwhatever reason, sometimes
people just aren't.
I can't begin to tell you howmany times I've talked with
people.
Even this past weekend, I wasat an amazing event called the
(09:03):
Faith Over Fear Business Summitwith Ray Higgin and Orlando.
I just got back Sunday nightand even talking to a few people
there, I'd hear this I justneed to get consistent.
I just need to get consistent, and I've heard that is a common
theme with a lot of people, evenwhen I'm talking to people that
potentially want to talk aboutcoaching or I'm doing a coaching
call and the idea is, well, Ijust got to get more consistent
(09:27):
with what I'm doing, and so Iunderstand that.
And sometimes we you know we getthat but you have to ask
yourself the question is, why amI not being consistent?
And if you ask yourself thatquestion, you have to really dig
deep and find the answer.
And I will tell you that, firstand foremost, you got to have a
(09:48):
passion for what you're doing.
You got to love what you do.
Okay, that is absolutelycrucial to your success.
You have to love what you do.
When you love what you do, youwill be consistent with it.
So you got to ask yourself doyou really love what you do?
And that's a big one, okay.
So the other thing is and thisis a great comment somebody is
(10:11):
leaving is that life gets in theway.
Okay, life gets in the way.
However, the cool thing is isthat creating content these days
does not take a lot, becauseit's so easy these days to
create content.
Do you know how long it took meto figure out what I was going
(10:32):
to talk about today?
It took me about five minutes.
It really did not take thatthat long.
And the cool thing is Iactually have a notepad that I
use on my phone, and every timeI have a video idea, I will go
ahead and I will put it on myphone, and this is one of the
things that I've done over timeis, you can see, I have this app
(10:57):
right here and this is ascrolling list of ideas that I
have for videos.
So what you can do is, as youstart having an idea for a video
, get into the habit of writingit down on a note on your phone.
You're always pretty muchyou'll always have your phone on
on with you, so the goal is youwant to Jot down those ideas.
(11:22):
I have fleeting thoughts all thetime, like we all do.
You know.
You're out at the grocery storeand you're like something hits
you, something triggers you inyour mind and you're like, oh,
that'd be a great video idea, or, man, that'd be a great piece
of content, or whatever.
Grab your phone, open it up,jot it down and get it off your
mind, because I will tell youright now, one of the things
(11:45):
that will hurt you is we allhave those thoughts, but I will
tell you, those thoughts comeand they're gone just as fast as
they came.
We all know it, because we'veall had million dollar ideas.
We've all had those milliondollar ideas before.
And what happens when we havethose million dollar ideas if
they don't get jotted down, guess what?
(12:06):
They're gone.
You'll never have that thoughtagain.
Maybe you might have it again, but the point is is you're more
than likely gonna lose that ideaand that's gonna hurt you,
because it could have been anAmazing video that you created
that went viral and you knowgets, you know, a ton of
traction.
It could send a whole ton oflead your way.
(12:27):
But because you didn't write itdown, you didn't save that idea
.
Guess what now you're?
You know you're, you're notdoing anything.
So the next time you feel like, hey, life's in the way, I don't
know what to talk about, youpull open your little notepad
and you go huh, let me see, let's grab one of these ideas
and let's do a video about it.
Okay, and it doesn't take long, you can go live, you can put
(12:49):
your phone on.
I mean, it doesn't.
It's not hard today to do it.
I think sometimes we get in thisidea that we have to sit down.
We got to think it through.
We come up with everything inour minds to the reasons of why
we can't do something.
And oh, you know this here andthis here.
You know how long it takes tomake a 10-minute video about 13
(13:12):
minutes, because you'll needlike one to three minutes to
figure out what you're gonnatalk about and then just kick on
the camera and start talking.
And I think sometimes we make itway more difficult than it
needs to be.
So you have to ask yourself whyare you lacking consistency?
Be honest, life can get in theway.
(13:32):
However, it doesn't take muchto be consistent with creating
content.
Now I will tell you, I have notalways been faithful at it
myself.
As much as I love doing videos,I have not always been faithful
to it.
Okay, but I've done it enoughOver and over and over again
that it has allowed me to stillhave a thriving audience.
(13:54):
So consistency is number three.
So hard, excuse me, it's notthat hard, it's so easy to do
and it's something that you canget in the habit of doing.
So first one, know youraudience.
Second is to make sure you'resharing relevant content.
Number three is to maintainthat consistency.
Have that consistency.
(14:15):
And number four this is veryimportant if you want more
engagement on social media.
Social media is not a one-waycommunication tool, and I see
this so often.
You want to treat social mediaexactly for what it is and it is
a two-way communication tool.
Now, this means that if you areputting out content or posts
(14:41):
and people are commenting onyour posts, you want to go and
like their comment.
You want to comment back whenpossible.
That is very, very important.
Now, it may be hard sometimesif you get a lot of comments,
but the truth is that thatlittle bit of extra time that
you take to like and commentback means a lot to those people
(15:05):
.
I know that when I comment, Ialways love a comment back.
I always love a like to seethat what I said was
acknowledged.
Who doesn't right?
So you have to remember thatsocial media is a two-way thing,
and what happens is, over time,as you engage with people's
(15:29):
content, especially those onyour feed or your social media
profile or whatever it may bethe more you engage with people,
the more they will see yourcontent as well.
That's how the algorithm works.
So let's say you have athousand friends Out of those
thousand friends, if there are, say, 25 or 30 that you engage
(15:52):
with on a regular basis.
Guess what's going to happen.
Facebook, or this is howFacebook works specifically.
It's going to show you thecontent of those people and I'll
tell you.
I know that's how it worksbecause let me give you an
example.
There are times where I've beenon social media and I'm like
dang, I haven't heard fromso-and-so in a long time.
(16:13):
So I'll go and I'll search uptheir profile and I'll go over
there and I'll see what they'vebeen up to.
Then, all of a sudden, guesswhat?
I start seeing their posts inmy newsfeed.
That's triggering the algorithm, you see.
So if there's people like youknow you want to see or you
haven't seen in a while, testthis.
(16:33):
Think of somebody on yourfriends list that you know you
haven't seen in a while gosearch up their profile, go to
it, check out their content, like it, comment, and then watch
over the next couple daysYou're going to start seeing
their posts as they post.
It's because that's the way thealgorithm works.
So the two-way communication isvital to making engagement work
(16:56):
on social media, very, veryimportant.
And it works, you know, incredibly well.
So you have to keep that inmind.
Now the ironic part about this.
Now I'm going to veer off.
I'm going to veer off a littlebit from social media.
This is exactly how it workswith email marketing too.
Okay, email marketing is allabout engagement.
Now, it didn't always used tobe that way, but the way the
(17:18):
email service providers now aregoing is it's down the road of
engagement.
They want opens and clicks morethan anything.
They want clicks more thananything, even more than opens.
So what happens is people treattheir email list like a one-way
communication tool and they'relike, oh, email marketing
doesn't work anymore.
It's because you literallytreat it like a one-way
(17:41):
communication tool.
You think that just because Igot a list, I should just send
out a blast email promotingwhatever and I didn't get any
sales.
And you wonder why?
It's because same thing theyare looking for back and forth.
So if you start treating youremail list like that and you get
into that habit, you're goingto treat social media the same
(18:03):
way.
So it's all about engagement,my friends.
Going back to email, the wayemail works is there's so much
spam on the internet.
Like literally 50 to 60% of allemails sent every single day
are unsolicited email byspammers.
Now, spammers, just to be clear, are people that are sending
(18:25):
you emails, marketing emails, spam emails, whatever and you
didn't ask to receive them.
It's different when you sign upto somebody's email list and
you start receiving emails.
That is not spam.
Spam is when it's unsolicited.
You didn't sign up for it andboy, all out of the billions of
emails sent every day, 50 to 60%of them are spam.
(18:49):
So what are those email serviceproviders doing?
They are.
What they're looking at is theyare looking at the engagement
that goes on between it.
Same thing with social media.
So two-way communications.
So know your audience, deliverrelevant content, be consistent,
(19:10):
foster two-way communications.
Now the number five one.
The fifth one is to analyze andoptimize, and this is very
important.
So, over time, as you postcontent, what's going to happen
is you're going to createcontent and what's going to
(19:33):
happen is you will notice let'ssay, you put up 50 pieces of
content.
When you go back and you lookover all of those pieces of
content, you're going to realizethat there is a segment of
those pieces of content that youcreated.
You're going to notice a littlebit of a pattern.
You're going to see, hey, thispiece of content did really well
(19:55):
, it got a lot of engagement, while this one over here did not
.
But this one here did get goodengagement and this one didn't.
So what you're going to noticeis you're going to see the ones
that got great engagement andyou'll see the ones that didn't.
So what you do is you findthose ones that got great
engagement and you stick to thattopic.
(20:17):
You post more content, justlike that.
Okay, I'm not saying you have torepeat yourself over and over,
but the same concept.
So I'll give you an example, asof late, over the last six
months, six to eight monthsyou've been seeing all kinds of
things about AI and chat, gptand all kinds of things about AI
(20:37):
.
I will tell you right now theposts, the content that I create
that is centered around AIright now is getting massive
engagement.
Why?
Because it's also a trendingtopic.
It's one of those things thatpeople are talking about right
now.
So my goal is to double down onthat.
(20:58):
So you're seeing a lot ofcontent about that because
people are capitalizing on thetrend.
And this is where I kind ofdisagree with this notion that
hey, if everybody else istalking about it, you should go
the other way.
Now, in some ways I agree withthat, but in other ways I don't,
(21:20):
because if everybody's talkingabout something, then that means
that's a hot topic.
What you should do is don'tavoid that topic, because that'd
be stupid.
What you should do is take thattopic and ask yourself how can
I put my own twist on this?
Because you can capitalize onthose trending topics, you see.
(21:43):
So it's very important.
Don't get yourself stuck inthis habit of saying, well,
everybody else is talking aboutit, so I'm not going to talk
about it.
No dumb move especially rightnow with AI Just because
everybody else is talking aboutit.
So what?
That means it's a hot topic andyou can tap into that, build
your audience, generate leads, make sales, things like that.
(22:05):
So very, very important torecognize that Analyzing and
optimizing is very important.
Sure, you can go into youranalytics on Facebook and
Instagram.
It gives you all kinds ofanalytics that you can look at
to seeing how your content doesand audience insights.
If you're going into yourFacebook page and things like
(22:28):
that, there's ways that you cando that.
But if you just want a very, very simple one, go look at the
content you've created over thelast 30 to 60 days.
Which one's got the mostengagement?
Was it personal ones?
I'll tell you a lot of personalones.
Get that I've put out.
Get a lot of engagement.
That tells me it's important topost personal things and people
(22:51):
like that.
People like to connect, theylike to know what's going on in
your life and it's like life isa reality show.
Don't always share your perfectthing with your little filter
and give it your Instagram, youknow whatever.
Don't always give that like.
(23:12):
Give some of the stuff too, like a little bit of the
struggles.
Hey, I'm having a rough daytoday, you know so, and so my
family members in the hospital.
I can use some prayer.
Don't be afraid to ask that.
Okay, those are the things thatmean a lot to people.
People want to know what yourstruggles are, not just what
(23:32):
your successes are, because theycan identify with that.
See, because here's the thing.
This is why I believe that theleaders who are a little bit
vulnerable are the ones thatwill go on and have the greatest
success are because when allyou do is share your successes
and not your failures, guesswhat happens?
(23:53):
It's very easy for that personto go.
Man, he or she, they're alwayshaving success.
What's wrong with me?
Like you know, I suck.
Like that never is good for me,just because all they're seeing
is the success you're having.
They don't see the struggles.
They don't see any of thepersonal things that you
(24:13):
struggle with as a humansometime.
Again, I'm not saying air yourdirty laundry, okay, but I am
saying be a little vulnerableand put that out there.
Those types of posts will doreally really well.
All right, maybe you've noticedthat as well.
All right, so let's recap themand we'll close it up.
So the first and foremost is toknow your audience.
You want to know who youraudience is.
(24:34):
Make sure that you're buildingthat on social media.
If you're on your profile, makesure that you're connecting
with people.
If you're using it for business, make sure you're doing that on
Facebook, instagram.
What other other places you'reat that you're focused on as
well?
But make sure that you'reconnecting with those people.
That's how you build theaudience there.
(24:55):
Number two deliver relevantcontent, and relevant content is
put content out there that theywant to see.
All right, that they want tosee.
So have a good mix.
Have a good mix of businesstype things, but also have a mix
of personal stuff.
You want people to feel you andconnect with you.
(25:17):
Number three is that big old Cword called consistency.
If you're not consistent, tryto figure out why that is and
ask yourself if you're justmaking excuses.
We all have life.
Life absolutely will distractyou in every way possible, but
we all have it.
We all have 24 hours in a day.
(25:38):
I promise you that if you getin that habit of creating a note
with all your ideas, you can atany point stop and create a
video all about whatever it isthat you need to talk about.
There's always topics that youcan do, so when those thoughts
hit your head, jot them downright away before you lose that
(25:59):
thought, because you may neverhave it again and that one video
that you create could have beenthe one that built your
audience big time.
So don't wait on that.
Foster.
Two-way communications those arehuge, huge, huge, huge.
Have two-way communication onsocial media.
If somebody takes the time tocomment on your post, make sure
(26:21):
you comment back Like their post.
Give them a compliment.
The power of a compliment isincredibly big If you really.
You've heard guys have heardthat that people don't care how
much you know until they knowhow much you care.
I mean, we've heard that agazillion times, but do we
really live it Like it's notjust a saying Like, it's a real
(26:43):
thing, like when you showgenuine care and concern for
another person, when you'reabout building people up.
I'm telling you, peopleremember that, that little shock
of emotion that they have intheir heart, that little tinge
of emotion that you make themfeel.
They remember that.
They remember that more thanthe killer tip that you gave on
(27:05):
social media or the killer tipthat you sent out in an email.
When they get a personalizedcomment from you, believe me,
that hits right here and they'llalways remember that.
And so number five is to analyzeand optimize.
Look at, over a period of time, what content has gotten the
best results and go through andrecreate that content, take
(27:28):
those topics and really drivethose home.
Okay, because that is obviouslyresonating with your audience.
So you want to do that?
All right, I hope you gotsomething out of this episode
today, this video here, and, ifyou did, make sure you comment
and make sure that you let meknow, go to hashtag replay, make
(27:49):
sure you let me know, and I'dlove to hear more about it.
We plan on doing this everysingle week.
And again, get ready, I'll beletting you guys know if you're
on my email list.
You want to make sure you checkit out, markharbertcom, go
there, get subscribed, and weare going to be starting very
soon doing Faith it Friday, allright, and that's where we're
(28:10):
going to be talking about faithand how.
If you're a person of faith, ifyou want to hear more about the
things in my life that aregoing on and sharing with you
the things that I'm learningwhen it comes to faith, you
definitely want to tap into that.
I'm very excited about that.
It's something I'm just feelingvery called to do and it's
going to be great.
I'm excited about it and we'llbe having more about that.
(28:31):
Okay, love you guys.
Have a great one and share this, or tag somebody if you think
they'll get benefit.
Love you guys.
