Speaker 1 (00:00):
So today we're going
to talk about the significance
of the heart according to God,and I'm going to pull up some of
my verses that I have here.
But as I was doing some of myresearch and kind of studying a
little bit, one of the thingsthat I found I actually heard
somebody say a statementrecently and they said that the
(00:21):
heart is mentioned more in theBible than even salvation, and
it's mentioned over so manythings.
And so I did a little bit ofpreliminary study on this and
according to some sources andI've looked up every single
instance myself but the heart, which is the heart of a person,
(00:43):
is mentioned over 800 times inthe Bible, in the Old Testament
and New Testament the referencesto the heart.
And I was really blown away bythat because the heart really is
so important in so many ways, and I recently was really
starting to get turned on tothis subject because I have a
(01:04):
book that I read and I'm goingto read it again, but it's
called Wild at Heart by JohnEldridge.
I highly recommend this for themen.
This is a book for men.
I highly recommend it.
Go right over to Amazon, grabit.
If you have not read this book.
If you have read it, do me afavor and comment and let me
know.
I'd love to know that you'veread it.
And for the ladies, there is abook called Captivating and it's
(01:28):
the same concept of this book, but it's for the woman.
And this book really has openedmy eyes to the heart and really
understanding the importanceand significance of the heart.
And all throughout the Bible, god talks about the heart.
He talks about it's part of the10 commandments.
You shall love the Lord, yourGod, with all your heart, soul,
(01:48):
mind and strength.
You shall have no other godsbefore me, all those things God
is searching for the heart.
A lot of people think that Godis looking at us based on our
actions and as soon as we decideto make Jesus Lord of our life,
our actions are not what'sgoing to determine God's love
for us.
God loves us regardless of ouractions.
(02:10):
He loves us regardless.
You know he loves us and hewants us, to our heart, to be
with Him.
Now, of course, our actionsmatter.
Okay, I'm not going to say theydon't.
However, the most importantthing God wants is our heart,
and he understands that we arenot perfect beings.
He understands that we're goingto make mistakes, but if we can
(02:33):
keep our heart in alignmentwith him, especially in our
day-to-day life.
And for us entrepreneurs, whichI am, god wants to be a part of
your business.
He wants to be a part of whatit is that you are doing each
and every day, and he wants tobe a part of your major and
minor decisions.
You just have to give him thatopportunity, and so one of the
(02:55):
things that I've been doingreally over this past week now
again, I read this book and Isigned up.
In this last weekend I went toa three day no, excuse me, a
four day men's retreat here inOhio that was basically based
around this book and it wasamazing.
It was an awesome time.
I thoroughly enjoyed it.
(03:17):
I loved every second of it.
It was a great blessing and Idefinitely want to go back and
do some of the other ones thatthey have as well, but it was a
great time to get away andreally start to focus on
restoring the heart.
And this world is nutty.
Okay, it is crazy.
You don't have to look hard tofind out what's going on in the
(03:39):
world.
Hop on social media.
The information that we have intoday's culture and world is we
get information at a lightningpace.
It's like something happens onthe other side of the world, and
immediately we get a ding onour phone about what it's all
(04:00):
about, and we know things thatare going on the other side of
the world in a heartbeat.
And when you bombard your mindwith all of that kind of
information, it will affect yourheart.
It makes you weary, it makesyou.
We just went through anelection.
We have half the country isjubilant, half the country is
(04:22):
depressed.
So when it gets right down toit, what side are you going to
choose?
All I know is I want joy, Iwant to be able to live my life,
regardless of who the presidentis, and I know for me, if I can
stay focused on him, I'm goingto have that peace, and so God
is always looking at the heart.
(04:42):
God wants the heart.
There's a verse in the OldTestament that says man looks on
the outward appearance, but Godlooks on the heart, so man is
always looking on the outside.
What are you doing?
What actions have you taken?
How you look, how you act, thethings you do, the things you
don't do, all those things Menis looking at that.
(05:03):
God is looking at your heart, though, and the heart is really
the most important part of whatwe're looking at and speaking to
my entrepreneur friends, one ofthe most important things when
it comes to being anentrepreneur is I see a question
here from Robin I want God totake control over my business.
(05:24):
How do I give it up, fullcontrol of it and still take
action?
Look, I'll tell you right nowfor me, one of the things that
is so important for me, and Iknow when I do this and when I
don't.
I know that if I don't spendevery day with some time with
God, I feel it.
(05:44):
I feel it Every day.
I've gotten in the habit of I'mhere in my basement, which is my
office Also, I have a couchover here, and every morning
I've been building the habit ofbefore I even hop on my computer
right here, I sit there and Igo through the Bible.
I listen to and I read theProverbs.
(06:07):
I like to read other sectionsof the Bible.
I've been going through a lotof the words of Jesus lately,
and there is a prayerspecifically that I've been
really going through everysingle day.
That has helped me, and it'shelped me to turn my heart more
toward God.
It's a daily battle, it's notlike a one-time thing.
So to answer that question, partof giving God over your
(06:30):
business isn't necessarily likeit's not surrendering your ideas
.
Let me rephrase that it's notsurrendering all the work that
you do, because your goal is touse the talents that God's given
you, because he's given us alltalents and things that we excel
(06:50):
at.
But it's using that and whenyou take actions, also start
asking God for the guidance inorder to do that, and you can do
that by praying.
Now I will tell you, I havenever been like a huge, strong
prayer or a prayer warrior.
I'm really working hard tochange that.
(07:10):
That has been something that Ihave not always been strong at.
But I will tell you, the moretime I spend asking God to help
me, to guide me, to help me seethe decisions that I need to
make in my business, the more Iget answers.
So how do you surrender it tohim?
Spend time with him every day.
Make sure that you don't letthat get stolen from you.
(07:34):
Now, a couple of days ago, Ihad a busy morning and I got up
a little later than I normallydo and I found myself getting
busy in the things of life and Idid not spend my time on the
couch doing my prayer, doing thethings that I know I needed to
do, and I felt it during the day.
I just felt it.
I didn't feel like I had filledmy cup yet and that affected me
(07:58):
that day.
And so, in order to surrenderto God, it means spending time
with him, reading the Bible, reading the scriptures, even if
you don't think you understandit or you don't get it.
Read a version of the Bible, that a newer version of the
Bible, and there's a lot ofdebate about what versions are
good and bad.
(08:19):
I got news for you.
They all got errors in them.
Just pick one and read it andlet God speak to you.
Okay, I'm not suggesting thatit's not important to understand
verses, it's not important, I'mnot suggesting that at all and
not to study it more in depth.
I like to have a reading Biblewhere it's just a reading
(08:40):
version.
I'm a big fan of the Englishstandard version, the ESV.
I like to just sit and read andgo through it.
I also am a big audio learner.
I love to listen to the audioBible.
I found a really cool applately called Dwell D-W-E-L-L.
I got that.
It's 40 bucks a year.
They have daily devotionals, they have audio readings of the
(09:03):
Bible.
So I'm doing a plan every day.
I've been listening to the audioof a book in Proverbs every
single day.
My goal is to listen toProverbs every single day.
It's the book of wisdom, andevery day we need wisdom.
Just cycle through that bookover and over and over and over
again and that has been a hugehelp for me.
So that is an important part ofsetting your heart toward God.
(09:29):
It's very important to do that, and for entrepreneurs it's even
more important, because I don'twant to be making the decisions
all the time.
I want God to be able to guideme and show me what it is that I
really need to be doing andwhich steps that I need to take.
And I'm just learning to dothat more and more.
I'm not perfect at it, but I'mtrying, and I do want to share
(09:51):
some verses with you here, justto make it official, but here's
some verses that I pulled upProverbs 4, 23,.
Keep your heart with allvigilance, for from it flows,
flow, the springs of life.
So the heart we're to keep ourheart with all diligence.
(10:12):
This is what the Bible saysvigilance, diligent diligence.
There's different translations, but our heart is so important
and we're to keep that heart.
We're to guard our heart Now,not guarded in the sense that we
want to keep people out.
We want to guard it from whatwe allow into our heart.
So part of that is also beingvery careful about what we let
(10:35):
into our mind, because what welet into our mind eventually
makes its way to the heart.
So we have to be very carefulabout what we're filling our
heads with, because we're.
We have to be careful becauseout of the heart flows
everything we do in life.
This is why it's so importantthat when you are in business,
(10:55):
it's very important tounderstand the purpose of the
heart, because what we fill theheart with eventually comes out
and it shows in pretty mucheverything we do.
It shows when you show up on avideo to create for your
business.
It shows when you write an on avideo to create for your
business.
It shows when you write anemail to your email list.
It shows when you post acuriosity post on Facebook to
(11:17):
try to drum up people orprospecting or whatever in your
bid drum up leads for yourbusiness.
It shows up in every single waythat you do it.
So it's very important that wefill our heads every single day.
Now, I am a big proponent ofpersonal development books.
Also, I love books, I love, Ilove personal development.
(11:41):
Okay, I believe personaldevelopment books can give you
insight and expand yourawareness on biblical principle,
but I always take those booksand filter it through the Bible
first.
That's just that's me.
That's how I do it.
If you're not a faith-basedperson and you want to do it
(12:01):
differently, go for it.
It's your life.
You can do it however you want.
For me, as a faith-based person,I always filter what I read in
a personal development bookthrough the scripture, and I've
seen plenty of things that Iknow don't line up with the
Bible, and I'm going to stickwith what God says because I
believe the creator of theuniverse, the heavens and the
(12:23):
earth has way more insight thanI do or any other person.
So, for me, I get greatinformation from personal
development books, but I use theBible to filter it so that
whatever goes into my heart, theheart, the believing seed of my
heart, like where the heart iswhen, the things that you're
(12:44):
passionate about, the thingsthat you absolutely love, if
you're super passionate abouthealth and wellness.
If you're super passionateabout that, it's because God
gave you that passion.
He gave you that ability to bepassionate about that, okay, and
he wants you to walk in that.
He wants you to be superfocused on the things that you
(13:08):
have a passionate about.
There's other people that theywant to be healthy, but they're
not super passionate about thattopic, and that's okay.
But maybe they're passionateabout something else.
So they step into that becauseGod is the one that gave that to
them and put that in theirheart and that's where their
abilities and the things thatthey do, that's where they live
(13:31):
from.
So nurture that heart andyou'll really be stepping into
what you're supposed to and whatGod has done for you.
Let me give you another coupleof these.
Psalm 5110, create in me aclean heart, o God, and renew a
right spirit within me.
So how do we get a clean heart?
Okay, same thing I just said aminute ago you have to spend
(13:56):
time with God and you have tofill your mind with the things
of God.
A lot of people they're likehow do I hear from God?
How do I hear from God?
I want to hear from God morethe best way for you to hear
from God, first and foremost, isto pick up a Bible and start
reading.
That's the best way to hear andguess what.
(14:18):
God will give you additionalinsights and bring things from
the scripture to mind when youneed it.
That's one of the greatest waysthat you can learn to hear from
God.
Just start reading.
It's the greatest personaldevelopment book ever created.
It's the number one sellingbook in all the world.
(14:39):
It's probably worth lookinginto.
I'm just saying All right,ezekiel 36, 26.
And I will give you a new heartand a new spirit.
I will put within you and Iwill remove the heart of stone
from your flesh and give you aheart of flesh.
Only God can truly soften aperson's heart.
(15:00):
Only God.
I've seen it.
A heart of stone, that's a hardheart.
That's somebody who's it's awhat's up, nicole, good to see
you.
What's up, guys?
But ultimately it's God thatcan soften the heart and he,
because he knows our innermostthoughts, he knows that he knows
the things we need in life morethan we need our, more than we
(15:22):
know ourselves, and that's soimportant to him and he wants to
be that for you.
But he will soften your heartand give you a heart of flesh so
that you can live from theheart.
That's really, ultimately whatwe want.
And I, this men's retreatweekend.
I was just at last weekend.
Man, I saw some big, burlydudes there, but man, I could
(15:45):
see they were living out oftheir heart.
They just wore their heart ontheir sleeve.
And there's this one dude.
He was a big boy, his name wasSolomon, big boy, but man, I'll
tell you what a great dude, whata great guy, just a big guy,
but man.
And one of those guys.
You look at him you're likewhoa, I don't want to cross him,
but he was great, he wasawesome.
(16:07):
And so you really get to seethat.
And never judge a book by itscover is the point of that one.
Let's see here Proverbs 3.5,trust in the Lord with all your
heart and do not lean on yourown understanding.
So when you trust in God withall your heart, that means that
(16:28):
is the ability to be able topush all fear, anxiety, doubt,
worry, all those things, to pushthem aside and say, god, look,
I don't have all the answers.
All I know is I'm going to keepdoing what I know to do best
and I'm going to let you bringthe results.
And I find that when I shift mybrain and shift my heart and
posture my heart in that waybrain and shift my heart and
(16:53):
posture my heart in that waywhat I find is that God always
comes through in a bigger waythan I could have imagined, and
so I believe that is one of theways that we can do that is, we
do our best.
Remember God gave you, he gaveyou all these abilities.
He put these talents within youand you all have, we all have
talents, every one of us.
God gave us talents in ourlives the ability to do certain
(17:17):
things that will bring him glory, and that's ultimately what it
comes down to.
God gives those to us.
So when we step into thosethings that we're passionate
about and that we love, justknow that you're doing those
things that please God.
Okay, and that's the importantthing, step into your talents.
If you're really good at healthand wellness, then man, dive
(17:41):
full into it.
Share the information you getwith people, let that passion
show and let it come from theheart and it'll have an impact.
Let's see Psalm 37, 4,.
Delight yourself in the Lordand he will give you the desires
of your heart.
So this is a huge one.
A lot of people ask a lot oftimes like how do I get an
(18:03):
answer to prayer?
And there is I don't know theverse right off the top of my
head, but there's a verse thatsays the Bible says when we pray
according to his will, if wepray according to his will, so
the first part is if we prayaccording to his will.
So the question is how do weknow his will?
(18:24):
Go back to the scripture.
Go back to the Bible.
The Bible is also the will ofGod.
Go back to the scripture.
Go back to the Bible.
The Bible is also the will ofGod.
If we pray according to hiswill, he hears us.
That is a really profound verse.
I don't know what I'm thinkingof, it off the top of my head,
but that's a very profound verse.
If we pray according to hiswill, he hears us, and so that's
(18:49):
a big.
That's a big one.
That's a big deal to thinkabout.
But in this verse it saysdelight yourself in the Lord and
he'll give you the desires ofyour heart.
So the desires of your heart,if they are in alignment with
God's, will guess what.
He hears you and he will answer.
And that's pretty awesome.
(19:09):
I love that.
Psalm 73, 26, the Psalms and theProverbs.
There's so much about the heartand Psalms and Proverbs so much
.
That's why those books are soimportant to read continually,
like never stop reading them.
They're that important.
But listen to this one Psalm 73, 26,.
My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my
(19:38):
heart and my portion forever.
So my flesh and my heart mayfail, and they will.
Our heart and our flesh, theywill fail, but God is the
strength of my heart and that myportion, forever.
So just remember, you don'thave to be perfect.
God is not asking you to beperfect.
He's asking you to try, but heknows you're never going to get
there.
He is asking you to try to doyour best.
(19:58):
But the important thing is thatwhen we recognize that we are
not perfect when we are, we'regoing to make mistakes All God
says is hey, just move forward, repent, ask for forgiveness and
just don't try not to do itagain.
Ultimately, that's really whatit comes down to.
I like when my daughter wasgrowing up as a dad um, growing
(20:21):
up my daughter there were timesshe did things that we didn't
like and we would say hey, honey, look, here's what, why you
shouldn't do that, and here'swhat you should do.
And it would be like she'd say, sorry daddy, and then maybe a
week or two later, she'd do itagain Sorry daddy, sorry daddy.
And it was like that's okay, Istill love you.
(20:42):
I never stopped loving her.
It's so important.
Our flesh and our heart willfail, but God is our strength.
All right, so let me look at acouple of verses here too.
Matthew 5, 8, just as Jesus, blessed are the pure in spirit,
for they shall see God.
And that's such a big one.
Let me read another one here.
(21:02):
The good person, out of thegood treasure of his heart,
produces good, and the evilperson, out of the evil treasure
, produces evil.
For out of the abundance of theheart, his mouth speaks.
This verse is so crucially keyto understanding the heart, I
believe.
So the good person, in otherwords, like none of us are good,
(21:26):
so to speak, without Jesus.
We need Jesus, that's for sure.
But here's the thing.
What it's getting at, if I takethis verse and I break it down,
is that the things we fill ourhead with okay, the things you
fill your head with make its waydown to the heart, which is.
It becomes the center of whoyou are and what you believe.
(21:49):
So it's very important thatwhat we listen to and what we
feed our brain with because themore we listen to it, the more
we take it in, the more itbecomes a part of the believing
part of our life.
So it proceeds out of our heartand what happens is what this
verse is saying is for out ofthe abundance of the heart, the
(22:12):
mouth speaks.
This is why what we put intoour heart, eventually it makes
it from the brain down to theheart and then out the mouth.
So if you want to know whereyour heart is, what are you
talking about every single day?
Are you totally enamored bypolitics?
All the time, all you'retalking about is politics, this
(22:35):
and this.
Maybe you should spend a littleless time in that and actually
go spend a little time with God.
So that I'm not suggesting nottalking about politics Okay,
that's fine, know the time, theplace, whatever but we also do
need to spend time with God sothat the idea of the things that
are going on in the world arenot consuming us to the point
(22:57):
where God can't get in there, because if all we're doing is
filling our head with all thenegativity that's going on in
the world.
Guess what's going to happen.
What, eventually, is going tocome out your mouth?
The negativity of the worldperiod.
And that's how it works.
It goes from here to here.
It's that simple.
(23:19):
James 4.8, and we'll get readyto finish up here.
And the peace of God.
No, excuse me, wrong one James4.8, draw near to God and he
will draw near to you.
Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts.
You double-minded.
So it's a little bit of alittle confrontation.
But when you recognize theheart of God, it's draw near to
(23:40):
God.
He's saying draw near to him.
When you recognize the heart ofGod, it's draw near to God.
He's saying draw near to himand you won't be so
double-minded.
Your life will have so muchmore stability.
Really cleanse your hands.
I'd love to study that a littlemore and see what hands means
in the Bible.
That'd be a great thing tounderstand.
That's really what it is.
Draw near to God and he willdraw near to you.
(24:01):
So if you really want tosurrender your business, if you
really want to know God, what hewants for your life, draw near
to him.
Open up your Bible, read it, getin there, check it out, really
work to spend time with him.
Let him speak to you.
One of the key things is in theBible Jesus oftentimes in the
(24:23):
morning, in the early part ofthe morning, he would go off and
be by himself and that's whathe would do.
He would spend time with thefather.
So that was that is a key thingthere.
If we're not doing that, get upan hour earlier.
Maybe, if it works better foryou at night in bed, do it at
night in bed, find I get I'mmore focused in the morning.
(24:43):
At night when I lay my headdown I'm pretty tired.
But anyway, the heart, thesignificance of the heart, is so
important.
If you really want to see someverses and really understand
that more, just go to the Bibleand search up some ways to
understand the heart.
But I'm telling you, thesignificance of the heart is so
important to everything we doand for us entrepreneurs,
(25:05):
everything we do, because theBible says that out of the heart
are the issues of life.
Everything flows out from theheart.
So if we don't fix the heart,we're not going to show up in
our business in a way.
That is the best, that willbring the greatest impact.
