Welcome back to the From ScratchBody. We are looking at an
ingredient again today.

(00:49):
We are looking at limes. Theyare not just for margaritas or
Mexican food. They pack such apunch when it comes to health
and home benefits. So let'sexplore today why it's worth
having a few in the fridge wherethey last a long time, may I
add. We've looked at lemons awhile ago, you may remember.
Now, let's talk about theirzesty cousin, the lime. They are

(01:13):
great for flavouring so manythings. They've got some serious
health and home perks too. Ifyou need a bit of help with your
immune system and who doesn't, Ilove that kind of sound a bit
coldy as I'm talking about this, but limes are packed with
vitamin c, and we have spokenabout vitamin c many times. It's
like a superhero for your immunesystem. Absolutely crucial.

(01:35):
A squeeze a day might just keepthose sniffles away a bit
longer. Don't forget thatvitamin c also helps your body
absorb iron. So a meal that'shigh in both, think a tofu stir
fry, for example, with agenerous squeeze of lime juice
is a super, super combo. Foryour digestion, it's great as
well.
Squeeze a bit of lime juice ontop of your food to help your

(01:58):
stomach out because theyactually help your saliva break
down the food better. So it'slike giving your digestion a
little boost. And it also lookslike limes and other citrus
fruits as well can help lowerthe risk of kidney stones. Great
for hydration, add some limeslices for a flavor upgrade in
your water. It's like fancy spawater, but a lot cheaper.

(02:21):
And it helps flush out toxinsand keeps you feeling fresh. And
it might be motivating you todrink a little bit more water as
well because it's gonna tastenicer. So that's a great way to
use them. It's great for yourskin too. You can whip up a DIY
face mask with some lime juiceand honey, and your skin will
thank you later.

(02:52):
How do you use it in thekitchen? So like I mentioned, a
stir fry is the perfect placefor a big squeeze of lime juice.
You can try some in my egg friedrice, which you can find in, on
my website. It's perfect inmarinades, salad dressings, and
also squeezed over seafood, pork, or chicken. Just a little
bit mixed in with your coleslawor your potato salad, both of

(03:15):
these are recipes on my website,to brighten things up, that
works brilliantly too.
Basically, anywhere that youneed something acidic, you can
try lime instead of lemon orinstead of vinegar to see if you
like it as an alternative. Andthe more you cook, the more
you'll trust your instincts andyour taste buds, and you'll know
exactly when to go for a littleaddition of lime juice and zest.

(03:37):
Don't forget that it worksperfectly in desserts too. It's
a great companion to sweet dairyor coconut based treats. In your
home as well, I love somethingthat can be used both for
cooking and for for housework.
For cleaning, you can avoidharsh chemicals completely by
mixing up some lime juice withwater and vinegar for a natural

(03:59):
cleaner that actually works. Ifyou have some funky odors
lingering around, stick somelime halves in the fridge or at
your waste disposal to freshenthings up. You can give your
laundry a tropical holiday andsay goodbye to musty smelling
clothes with a splash of limejuice in the wash. How cool is
that? And also, if your kitchenhas a waste disposal, chuck your

(04:23):
used citrus fruit in last.
It will freshen up the disposaland leave a much more pleasant
smell. In a nutshell, limes arefantastic both when it comes to
your health and your home. They're versatile, affordable,
and they smell amazing too. Sodon't forget to stock up on
limes. As I say, they last along time in the fridge so you

(04:43):
don't need to worry.
You can get a good half a dozenof these. Your taste buds and
your cleaning supplies willthank you. Have you got other
great uses for limes that I'veforgotten to mention here in
cooking, for your body, or foryour house? Message me on
Instagram or email me at liv atthe from scratch body, and I
will be here next week. Thankyou for listening to this week's

(05:17):
episode.
There are tons of recipes foryou to try on my website, my
YouTube channel, and also onsocial media channels. Just

useful for topics andinspiration for the future, and
try to have fun and experimentwhen you cook at home. And
