Christian entrepreneurorganization, which is at CEO
for women on all social media.
And I really just focus onencouraging women to pursue
their purpose. And so I've beendoing this for about three years
now. And it's been a funjourney. And there's so much

(01:43):
more to do. So yeah, I'm excitedabout where the brand is headed.

Taneshia says she is the founderof Christian Entrepreneur
Organization, when she's notbusy running when she's not busy

(02:12):
running the brand. She's a wife,a mama and a self proclaimed
chef, as she said, a shout outto Pinterest. After you may have
purchased some good recipes. Shefounded CEO for women in 2018.
With aspiring Christianentrepreneurs in mind, having
started multiple passionprojects of her own, and knowing
the struggles that women face, she created this brand to give
women the motivation, they needto keep going. The one thing for

(02:36):
overturning still does ispositive affirmation. That's
something special right there.
She is a firm believer that wecan create the life that we want
simply by doing the work andspeaking things into existence.
Put some gospel on Isaiah 5511.
Man, all right, when it comesdown to it, he's a regular girl
like you. That is like you wantto pursue God's purpose for her

(02:59):
life. All right, I didn't botchit too much, but Excellent,
excellent. well written, thatit's amazing to me like I'm
impressed by your bio, and Ican't wait to dive in. I know,
this question we sent you butyou know, don't trip because
we're probably going to. Tiara'sthe focus one. I'm all over the

(03:19):
place. So sorry. I'm back thoughsome questions that we didn't
see. But it won't catch too faroff guard. But thanks again for
joining us. They reallyappreciate it.

Taneshia Yerby (03:26):
No problem.

Tiara Jones (03:27):
Yeah, we have been big fans of you and your brand
for a while now. Like we'realways sharing your content. And
so we're excited to be able totalk to you today.

Taneshia Yerby (03:37):
Yay. That's exciting.

Ray Mayfield (03:39):
Yes indeed, yes indeed.
So Tee, I'll let you I'll letyou get started. I know you I
know. You've been a bigsupporter of Taneshia business,
you've introduced my family toher and I can't thank you enough
as well as some of our friendstoo. So you know, I'll bow out
and let you have the firstquestion. That might be the last
one. So go for it.

Tiara Jones (03:56):
Okay, so let's do it. Oh, Taneshia. Can you tell
us like, um, what we what wereyou doing before you kind of
jumped into entrepreneurship andstarted your business?

Taneshia Yerby (04:05):
Um, I actually, when I read this question, I
thought that that was, um, Ichuckled a little bit, because I
actually I still work full time.

Tiara Jones (04:14):
Wow, what is it very impressive,
because I see all the contentand everything that you're
putting out right now.

Taneshia Yerby (04:21):
So a lot of people don't know that. And I
kind of wanted to, like debunkthat whole thing, where if
you're going to be anentrepreneur, you have to focus
100% on that, I think thateveryone is kind of like looking
to build something so fast. Soyou know, we think that's the
only way but it's not like Istill work full time. I just do
this I make time for sosometimes it's you know, late

(04:43):
nights, and I don't plan to dothat forever. But that's kind of
the season that I'm in rightnow. And yeah, so before doing
this brand, I've always had theI like to call it the
entrepreneur bug. So I've alwayswanted to like build something
from scratch and You know, startmy own business. But the problem

(05:03):
was that I was starting allthese, I like to call them
passion projects, because they, they weren't really businesses.
I was starting all of theseprojects, and they weren't going
anywhere. And it was because Iwas just trying to like sell
random stuff. I just wanted tosell something, because I
thought that that's whatentrepreneurship was. I didn't
know anything about lifepurpose, or any of that. So

(05:26):
yeah, I decided back in 2018. Iwas like, You know what? I am,
I'm confused. I don't know whatmy purpose is. I don't know, you
know what to do. And so I justtalked to God. And his response
to me was, I just want yourvoice. And so I'm like, Well,
how I don't understand what youmean by my voice. I don't. I

(05:47):
have no idea what you mean bythat. So I honestly just started
the social media page. And I waslike, Alright, well, this is my
voice. So here it is. So yeah, Istarted this back in 2018. And
for two years, God really justwas like, He didn't give me any
other instruction. It was just Iwant your voice. And then

(06:07):
finally, the end of last year,He's like, okay, now that you're
in your purpose, now, I canrelease you to actually do a
product that you want. So, soyeah, it's a new journey for me.
But yeah, that's how it allstarted.

Tiara Jones (06:21):
That is awesome.
And, uh, thank you for being youknow, so transparent with that,
because a lot of people usuallywon't share. Yeah, I started a
business, but I didn't actuallystart selling anything, you
know, for a few years. But youcan do that. And when you're,
you know, when you're reallylistening to God, and walking in
His will, he will line things upso well. And like, much better.
He said that you were kind ofselling things before and just
really wasn't working out. Andhere, you're just, you know,

(06:44):
just just your voice, somethingas simple as just use your voice
and look at what your platformhas grown into.

Taneshia Yerby (06:52):
Yeah, it's actually pretty crazy. I started
the platform with zerofollowers, because I was a
little shy. Because I was like,Oh my god, this is like my 29th
venture. And these people aregonna think I'm crazy. So I
started this business, I startedthe page with zero followers. I
did not tell any family andfriends. And as it started to

(07:13):
grow, people were like, hold on,is it you? Because I saw you in
the story. This is this you.
I've been following this brand.
And I'm like, it's me. So yeah,I started off with just not
telling anybody cuz i was ihonestly was a little bit shy
and embarrassed. Like, theydon't think I'm crazy. But you
know, somewhere along the way, Iwas like, You know what, people
think you're crazy. Anyway. So.
So yeah, so now, it has grownbeyond what I could have

(07:34):
imagined.

Ray Mayfield (07:37):
That is awesome.
That's awesome. Yeah. Iappreciate the you know, the
honesty, would you say, youknow, you're still working,
like, you know, I think like, alot of people who get caught
with the entrepreneurial bug arelike, yeah, I gotta quit this
job and do this thing full time.
And, you know, I gotta work, Igotta be my own boss. And, you
know, you want to write your ownchecks. You know, I admired
that, that that takes adifferent type of hustle,

(07:58):
though, especially when you'relooking at, you know, you're
working a full time job, youknow, you're raising, you're
raising a family, you know, andthen, you know, like you said,
before, you know, late night, sometimes early mornings, you
know, you're taking time offGod, and then, you know, putting
down what God is telling you toshare for the world. That's,
that's pretty impressive.

Tiara Jones (08:15):
Yeah, it is, especially the fact that, you
know, we don't always see what'sgoing on behind the scenes. So
from you know, someone justseeing your brand and seeing the
products you're put out, itlooks like you're doing this
full time, because it looksgood, you are all in, but then
to know that you actually have afull time, you know, that shows
people that you can still looklike you're all in still why are
you know, doing other things, and your wife, you're, you're

(08:38):
mom like that, that's a lot. Butto still be able to, you know,
show up, you know, as yourselfand show up, you know, in a
spirit of excellence, I think issuch a great testimony, you
know, for other entrepreneursthat are thinking, I don't know,
I don't think I could really beall into it. Clearly, it's
doable.

Taneshia Yerby (08:55):
Yeah, it's doable. It's some work with it.
Um, and like you said, yeah, alot of people think you just
have to, like, quit your job anddive all in. But the thing I
want to say about that is thatif you quit your job, and you're
not, and you don't have a planin place, I don't know how far
your business can go anyway, because now you've added stress
on top of the already stress oftrying to build a business. So

(09:16):
if I were to quit my job, and Ihad to, you know, just focus on
this, and I think the contentmight change a little bit,
because now I'm, you know, I'mnot being authentic anymore,
because I'm relying on this, youknow, for so much. So, there's a
plan in place, and hopefully, you know, that's like a one year
plan, and it works out. Butyeah, I think people should kind
of just take their time and idon't i don't even know where

(09:37):
the stigma came from that youcan't do both because I think
you can.

Tiara Jones (09:40):
Absolutely, because there is quick to say just, you
know, quit your job. Do allthis. You got to be Yeah. Okay,
that works for some people, butit doesn't work for everybody,
because I've been running theirown business and who would you
have is your support team?

Ray Mayfield (09:54):
Yeah, that's right. That's a lot like, No,
no, like, you know, we'reentrepreneurs. We have full time
jobs well to and, so weunderstand the struggle, we
understand, I shouldn't saystruggle, we understand the
level of passion you have totake when you come to listening
and doing what God's telling youto do. And it's a struggle for
some, and I think you eventouched on a little bit, you

(10:14):
know, what your shyness andthings you had to overcome, you
know, as you step out on faith, you know, to do what God told
you to do. Um, but you know, onething I appreciate is that, you
know, I struggle with some ofthat as well, too. I was a bit
of an introvert, when

Tiara Jones (10:30):
You're not an introvert

Ray Mayfield (10:31):
I was I was, when I was younger, I was, I was
really an introvert. Butsomething happened, right. I
think it's like, you know, weall have a light, we all have a
gift inside of us. And it'simportant to not dim it, because
the impact that can have onother people. So I absolutely
applaud you, you know, forstepping out into what God told
you to do. I mean, you're,you're really speaking life into

(10:52):
people. And that's, that's a,that's an awesome way to use
your platform. Thank you.

Tiara Jones (10:56):
Absolutely. Because I know a lot of things that you
put out has helped me. We'vepurchased your affirmation
cards, I've gotten them for, youknow, my sister, and it just,
you wouldn't think like justsomething so simple is just, you
know, speaking something, youknow, an out loud, not just in
your head, but sometimes justspeaking it out loud to
yourself, how much that justsets the tone, you know, for

(11:16):
your day,

Taneshia Yerby (11:17):
right? Yep. So that was the goal of it. And
that was I created them, becausethat was one of you know, my
issues. I was like, Well, whatdid you struggle with before you
started, you know, pursuingpurpose? And following what's
what God wants for you? That wasone of the things I have, you
know, I think we all kind ofhave those negative thoughts
like, Oh, my God, this can'twork, or, oh, people are gonna
think I'm crazy, you know, wehave all these thoughts. So I

(11:39):
just wanted something where Icould, and I used to actually
keep sticky notes all over myhouse, they would be in my car,
I would put them out the nightbefore, like on my steering
wheel, because I didn't knowwhat kind of more knobs I have
the next morning. So I wouldhave a sticky note from the
night before that says, girl, you got this today's gonna be a
good day. So it would be kind oflike a little semi surprise when

(12:00):
I would get in the car in themorning. But I would have sticky
notes all over my bathroommirror all over the fridge. And
I was like, You know what, thesecould just be turned into cards.
And so that's kind of like wherethat came from.

Tiara Jones (12:11):
Nice, so you talk about the cards. What else have
you added? Since you startedwith the brand and the content?
And then was the first productyour affirmation cards?

Taneshia Yerby (12:20):
Yes, that was my first product. And I almost did
not release them. Because I, Iwas because again, I work full
time. I am a mom. And I'm awife. And so I it's hard to find
time sometimes. And originally, the deck was supposed to be 45

(12:41):
cards, and all of my quotes andeverything. Those just come
through my prayer time. I don'tfind inspiration anywhere or
like I'm not on, I used to be abig Pinterest or when I first
started, which also when I wasreposting content God was like
if you're reposting whateverybody else is saying they're
not getting what I'm tellingyou. So that was a big check for

(13:03):
me. So I had to stop looking onPinterest, and you know, all of
those things. But yeah, I justjust decided to you know, just
go for it. And, um, and just usemy voice. So yeah, so I started
with the affirmation cards. Andthen I have expanded into some
other items as well. And I don'tknow if you've seen but there

(13:27):
are the purpose necklaces. Sothe brand is really just about
everywhere you look, you shouldbe inspired to follow your
purpose. So that's the goal ofit. I wanted to make it kind of
like a hallmark for Christianwomen. So you can go in there
you can buy pretty much whateveryou need to get you kind of
excited about pursuing yourpurpose. So I have the

(13:49):
affirmation cards. I also havestickers, magnets. And those and
you place those common places.
You know, like I have my waterbottle right now, the sticker
that I'm looking at, it saysgoing after everything that God
promised me. So that's the goalto like, everywhere you look,
even when I go get a snackthroughout the day, I have
affirmation cards on myrefrigerator. I have the right
your own affirmation cards, Ihave the necklace on that says

(14:09):
purpose. So that's kind of thegoal behind it.

Ray Mayfield (14:13):
That is that's super dope. That's super dope.
That's cool. That's real cool. Ilike that. I like that just you
know, like your, youraffirmations help men too. So we
love you. We appreciate you.
Thank you, you know what I get?
I don't say that to befacetious, or, you know, sound
snarky, but yeah, I mean, like, you know, it's amazing. When you
when you put something outthere, um, for one for any for
for a person, it can alwaystouch another person. So I

(14:36):
definitely appreciate you. Thankyou.

Taneshia Yerby (14:37):
No problem.

Tiara Jones (14:38):
Yeah, um, one thing that you said about you know,
getting away from printPinterest and kind of doing your
own content and using your ownvoice. I mean, I think we say
that a lot within, you know, blocking out the noise of
everyone else and not trying tobe like anyone else trying to
fit it into, you know, the boxof what everyone's saying to do,
but just just say what exactlywhat God told you to say.

Taneshia Yerby (14:59):
Right? Yeah, I think He kind of I think a lot
of people use that wholereposting content because that
it's just easy. You know, itresonates with you. It's just,
and creating content is not likean easy task. It takes a lot of
like, discipline and like, youjust have to sit and like get in
your creative zone. But ifyou're always going, it's, it's
hard to get into that zone. Soit's definitely not something

(15:23):
that's easy. So I think that'swhy a lot of people do like the
whole reposting which is, Ithink, fine, but when you're
like, not saying anything thatGod has called you to say, like,
then the word that he's givingyou is not reaching the people
that it should be reaching, because you're hoarding it,
essentially,

Ray Mayfield (15:38):
that's, that's really, you know, not not not
that we can relate what you likeyou, we publish a weekly
newsletter, right? And it's thesame thing. It's like, you know,
we try we, and it's only once aweek.

Tiara Jones (15:50):
Yeah, is it every other week.

Ray Mayfield (15:51):
Yeah. It's like, you know, yet we have to, we
really have to focus on takingtime amongst all the clutter of
daily life of daily life to taketime to find what God is telling
us to put in a newsletter forpeople to get. And as I say, I
applaud you like, you reallyhave to have a special talent
from God to do that, on aconsistent basis. So yeah,

(16:13):
definitely, hats off. Definitelyhats off.

Tiara Jones (16:15):
Yeah, cuz sometimes with us, we like if we aren't
hearing God, we're not writingit was just like, we're not
going to try to fabricratesomething together or anything
like that. But, you know, wewant this, we don't want to just
be putting content out just forthe, you know, the sake of
putting content out to say thatwe're consistent with content,
but we actually want to be, youknow, helpful to other
entrepreneurs and be upliftingto other entrepreneurs, I just

(16:37):
want to make sure that, youknow, I'm hearing God to see,
you know, whoever's in ourcommunity he's ever, you know,
is, you know, engaging with us,that we like, we can speak to
them, and you know, what they'regoing through what they may be
dealing with.

Taneshia Yerby (16:49):
Yeah, and it's funny that you mentioned that
about the the weekly email, Ihave an email list, and I, I
don't email every week, or everyother week, or once a month, or
it just, it happens when ithappens. And I think I kind of
put so much stress on myself inthe beginning, like, Okay, you
got to do the emails weekly, andyou got to do stories every day.

(17:11):
And yeah, and that is when youare just stressed, that's when
you're not performing at yourbest because everything is
coming from a place of likeanxiety, versus like, naturally
flowing. So even on my website, like, before you sign up, it
says, hey, you're not gonna hearfrom us every week, you will
hear from us when we havesomething to say. And I think

(17:32):
people are okay with that.
Because, again, I don't want to,like you just said, I don't want
to just put out content, just toput it out. Like I want it to
have value to it. So So yeah. Sohopefully, one day, I can get to
a point where I do it weekly.
But right now with everythingelse, I'm just like, you know
what, I just want to make surethey find value whenever they do
get an email from me. So yeah,

Tiara Jones (17:53):
yeah, that's good.
And that, I mean, that's, that'sgreat. I think that's excellent
advice to other people outthere. That, you know, you just
go with what, you know, God'stelling you to go and what's
your feeling and your emotions, and you know, your capacity in
order to do to actually to putthat content out. So you know,
that it's good, because peopleyou can kind of read through
some stuff and know, okay, theykind of just do this together,
or something like that. But itdoesn't have to be like that you

(18:16):
can I think that will stillbring to you, whoever needs to
be, you know, there for you andyour business, whether it's
people supporting you, orwhether it's, you know, some
people that's directly you know, buying from you, and engaging
you and things like that, he'sgoing to bring them as long as
you you know, just keep walkingin what He said, what he said to
do,

Taneshia Yerby (18:35):
right,

Ray Mayfield (18:35):
and so, so like, you know, one thing I know, we
touched on a lot, and this is agreat conversation, you know, so
like, Can you touch a little bitlike on you know, your
interaction with otherentrepreneurs and kind of how
you know, if you have a networkof those who reach out to you
and how you touched them, or youknow, how your affirmation know,
kind of not just encourage youbut touches others, and, you
know, some of the feedbackyou've received from people.

Taneshia Yerby (18:57):
Yeah, so I am very active in my DM's. If you
and I think actually, we mighthave connected in the DM's? Yes,
I have not, you know, some ofthe brands that grow, you know,
in their bio was his no DM's andthey don't respond to DM's. I am
not that person. I can't believepeople say like, people want to

(19:18):
interact with you. What do youmean no dm, I am not that person
that also I respond pretty muchto all of my dm sometimes I
can't get to all of them. Ifit's just you know, someone,
like repost it in a story orsomething. But I try to respond
to all of my messages. And it'sbeen great feedback on how the
affirmation cards have helpedthem. It's been amazing

(19:41):
feedback, because again, I didsay I got thrown off a little
bit, but the cards almost didn'thappen because they were
supposed to be a deck of 45. Andbetween work and kids and also,
I have a baby. She's 10 monthsnow. But when these cards were
launching, God gave me this ideain October. She was one month
old. Also, we had just closed onour house two weeks before she

(20:03):
was born. So, so it was chaotic.
And I was like, Well, God,thanks for the idea, not
happening. And so I could notget to 45 like cards, I could
not get there. And then, youknow, my husband was like, well,
why don't you just do 25? Thenwhy don't you just do what you
have? and I was like, oh, okay, well, I'll just go with the 25

(20:26):
did. Um, so that's how it endedup being that amount. But yeah,
people have given me greatresponse and feedback that the
cards have helped them. That'show they start their day, I love
being tagged in the stories onInstagram. Because I can see
like, you know, what card theygot for the day and how it
resonated with them. So Iabsolutely love it. I love it.

(20:48):
And I tried to share all ofthem. But it's gotten a little
bit difficult for me to shareall the stories, because I'm
like, the people are going tosee all the affirmations. And
you know, what if all the peoplethat have purchased them haven't
gotten to that card yet, so Istill wanted to like leave an
element of surprise. So I thankthem via DM's. And I wish I
could like share all of them.

(21:10):
But I'm trying to like thepeople that have purchased them,
the people that are going to Ijust kind of wanted to leave
that surprised of what cardthey'll get.

Tiara Jones (21:16):
Oh, yeah, absolutely. Because I just
shuffle mines out and put oneout each day. Yeah, like that
element of surprise. Yeah.
Right. Yeah. Like she said, Ifyou know, everywhere you look,
there's something that's goingto be encouraging you and you
need that. Because when you'regoing out for the day, I mean,
anything things could change bythe second. And so sometimes you
just need that glance over thatputs you back into, you know
that right frame of mind.

Ray Mayfield (21:39):
Yeah. Yeah. Like you said, You shared it a while
ago about how you went out someplaces the day before? Yeah. Not
knowing what kind of day you'regonna have you wake up and you
see and it's like, oh, yeah, everything's gonna be alright.
And as this mad cool well, Ilike that. Yeah. So so so you
know, you you said, you know, you have a husband? Yeah. Yeah.
How many? How many kids? Do youmind me asking?

Taneshia Yerby (21:58):
Yeah, we have two together. And then I have a
bonus daughter, so.

Ray Mayfield (22:03):
Oh, cool. Cool.
What are their age ranges? Ihave two girls. So Oh, yeah.

Taneshia Yerby (22:06):
Well, we have three girls. So imagine that. So
you know, the feeling. Together,we have a six year old in our
youngest is 10 months old. Okay.
She will be one in September.
And then my bonus daughter isabout to be 14 and three, two
weeks.

Ray Mayfield (22:22):
Oh, cool, man.
Cool. Cool. Sweet. Sweet. Yeah,we're four in one. So we're
playing with the idea of a thirdone, but I can't like I'm
looking at like, like, becausemy wife is she's writing. She's
working on children, Christianbooks. Oh, nice. I have a full
time job. And then we're doingthis business together the
podcast, I think. So. It's a lotof business endeavors. So, you

(22:43):
know, so I'm curious, I alwayslike to understand people's
rhythm and how they approachthings, right. So, you know, you
wear you wear many hats? Youknow, how do you balance it all?
Like, you know, how do you howdo you? How do you take the
gifts and the things you hearfrom God and apply it? You know,
every day? And for the benefitof others?

Taneshia Yerby (23:05):
That's a good question. I know I do. I work
from home. So my, my job is veryflexible, which is why I'm able
to get most of this stuff done.
Um, because I don't actuallyhave to leave out of the house.
But with my family, I amlearning to find balance. So I
think I want that to be myanswer that I'm still learning
because I do I listened to otherpeople. And they seem like they

(23:25):
have it all together. And I'mlike, you ain't right for me.
Because I ain't got it together.
I need somebody that's like, inthe struggle with me, you know?
So I'm finding balance, likesome days. I'm like, man, I was
like, a crappy mom today. Youknow, I didn't have a business,
but I was probably mom today.
And then other days. I'm like, you know, I was a great mom
today. But I didn't get nothingdone with business today. So I

(23:46):
am still finding balance. Likeright now my six year old is
right here beside me. I'mcoughing. I hope you can't hear.
But

Tiara Jones (23:56):
that's okay. I mean, this is real life. So

Ray Mayfield (24:00):
I'm waiting for one of my girls have burst in
the door in a minute. So

Taneshia Yerby (24:03):
yeah, she would have burst in the door. So I was
like, you don't want to come on,come on in here. Just come on in
here before it starts. So thatwe don't have any surprises. So
yeah, I am finding balance. Andthat's within my home. And then
outside of that home I have,I've always been the person to,
I've always been the go toperson for people that have like
an idea that they want to bringto life. Because there are

(24:25):
people in your life that youknow, you tell them something
and they're like, I don't knowhow that's gonna work. I don't
you know, I'm the friend that ifyou tell them you want to sell
turtle food, I'm like, okay, sothat let's figure out how you
can sell this turtle food. Okay, let's find a vendor for you to
find the turtle food. Let that'sjust me because I can't stop
what is on your heart. And evenfor my brand, like when I was

(24:47):
just posting quotes, peoplewould tell me that, like, all
you're doing is posting quotes, but now it's a community of
almost 30,000 women, then theirlives have been changed. But two
years ago, people were like, what are you doing what you're
just posting quotes? So that'swhy that was a valuable lesson
for me. And I've never been thatperson, you know, to down
someone's dreams. So I thinkthat everybody just kind of kind

(25:08):
of need someone that is going topush them and motivate them no
matter what the dream is. So I'mconstantly talking to my
friends, even if I don't hearfrom them for a while, or if I
don't see them on, you know, social media. I'm like, hey,
making sure you any fall off.
Yeah, I haven't seen no contentfrom you what you're doing. So
yeah, I'm just a friend that isgoing to like, encourage and
motivate people. So that's whatI do outside of my home.

Tiara Jones (25:30):
Yes. I love that.
Okay.

Ray Mayfield (25:34):
That's amazing.
That's amazing. That's amazing.
We all I think we all need thatperson in our corner who's gonna
push us to be better? And not,you know, not random operate an
excitement behind us. Yeah.
Like, he's like, like he said,he can make turtle food. Let's
sit down and figure this out.
That's, that's pretty cool.

Tiara Jones (25:49):
Right? And when sometimes you'll be like, you'll
think that what you have tooffer is too simple. Like, all
the time, we're like, well, that's not enough, I need
something more. Like, we'realways trying to add extra stuff
to it, when you don't have toadd anything to it. Like just,
you know, do exactly like, thefirst idea you have is usually
less is more, and you can gowith that. And people will love
it. You know, it's like thesimplest things in life that if

(26:11):
we didn't have, we will be goingcrazy. So I mean, you really
cannot, you know, underestimatewhat you have to offer.

Taneshia Yerby (26:17):
Right? Yep, that is so true. You just have to go
with whatever it is. And, andagain, a story about me is that
I again, I told you guys, thiswas like my 97th passion
project. So I didn't tell anyoneabout it. But yeah, if that's
one of your weaknesses, like youknow, you get upset when you're
sharing your your ideas andthings with people and they're

(26:37):
not giving you the excitementthat you need. Find a group of
people who will like join aFacebook group, or or don't tell
anybody at all, like, justbecause when people I felt so
free to speak, when nobody knewwho I was, like, there, I knew
there was nobody judging mebecause no one knew me. There
was no one that knew me, no onewas going to save me. Now once

(26:59):
it started to grow and kind ofgot a little bit of buzz and
people did start to find out itwas me like, close people to me,
that's when the whole it's justquote, but by that time, I'm
solid already. Okay, I'vealready built the dream. So by
that time, I was, you know, unmovable. So I think that it's
something I kind of the analogyI like to use is that treat your

(27:21):
passion or your you know, yourbusiness like your baby, like a
pregnancy. You don't you know, once you find out you're
pregnant, you don't go tellingeverybody you tell you know, the
closest people to you, you know, you might tell your parents, you
know, friend, you don't go post, you know, two days pregnant, you
know, on the internet, I'm youknow, I'm pregnant, I'm

(27:41):
expecting you don't. The generalrule of thumb is that you wait
till you're in the clear, youwait till you're in the clear,
you're out of the firsttrimester. Now you can kind of
share with them some things. Andso that's how I look at it with
business. So even when I havelike all of these, like products
coming, I'm like, okay, whattrimester Are you in? What
trimester Are we here. And thenonce I get into clear, I've

(28:02):
gotten like vendor secured andstuff is ordered, and it's on
the way, that's when I can say, okay, this is what we got
coming. So that's how I kind oftreat every aspect of life in my
business.

Tiara Jones (28:12):
I love that. I love it. And it goes completely
against a lot of times what yousee on social media and the
oversharing. Like, you don'thave to share everything like,
right when you get an idea, right when something goes just
constantly sharing and sharing.
But sometimes you just got to,you know, sit with it and you
know, work with it yourselfbefore really putting it out
there. And you know, that tookI'm sure that took a lot for you

(28:32):
to when you first started yourbrand, not to say anything to
anyone, like your extendedfamily of people that I'm sure
your immediate family andextended family I'm sure that
would have, you know, supportedyou. You just, you know, just
kept it to yourself and had themlike really find you
organically.

Taneshia Yerby (28:47):
Yeah. And that was hard. It was very hard.
Because you know, you want toshare when you're excited, like
you want to tell someone andshare your excitement with
people. And so it was very hardfor me. But I think that that's
why the business grew to whereit is today. And I will share
this story. Um, I don't I thinksometimes we think like people
are hating on us. And they'renot. They're just curious. So

(29:10):
here's an example, I had thesebaby blankets that I made for my
oldest daughter, when she wasborn, I could not figure out how
to get her to transition fromthe bassinet to the crib. So I
made these baby blankets andthey It was called a crib
trainer. And it was amazingbecause I couldn't find anything
on the market. So I made itbecause i've you know, I've
always been a crafty person. Iput it on Facebook, everybody

(29:32):
loved it. People are likeordering. I'm like, I think I
got another business here. So,um, I started like looking at
like, vendors to like make themfor me. And my husband was like,
he asked he's he's a planner.
I'm a doer. So I'm like, I don'tknow how to get it done, but I'm
gonna get it done. My husband,he has 9000 questions. He wants
to know like, how are you goingto do this? We're gonna find the

(29:54):
testing that like he asked me amillion questions and a
essentially, he didn't talk meout of it. But his questions,
let me know I wasn't preparedfor it. And so I let that dream
die. I was it, I let it diebecause I was like, whoa, these
questions are real. And I don'thave the answers for him. So
maybe this is too big for me.

(30:15):
And I know that his attempt, hewas not hating on me. He just
had questions. And so that wasone of the things that I, again,
with this business, I took thatknowledge into this business,
and I said, okay, if people comeup and ask you all these
questions that you don't havethe answers to? How are you
going to move past that? Are yougoing to be discouraged? Because
now you don't you don't feelprepared? For what? So I took

(30:38):
that information. I was like,You know what, that we're not
telling anybody? Because I don'thave I don't have any of the
answers right now. So I can'tshare this stuff with people.
Because in the event that theyasked for something, I don't
want to be, you know, discouraged and back out of my
dream. So yeah.

Ray Mayfield (30:53):
Yes, that's, that's, that's smart or less
smart. I like I like that, youknow, to Tiara and I kind of had
the same business relationshipshere as a planner, I'm more
like, hey, let's just let's justexecute man.

Tiara Jones (31:03):
And I ask you a million questions and just look
at me and be like, I don't haveany answers.

Ray Mayfield (31:07):
But there's no, I just executed anyways. So it's
like, but I get it, though. It'slike you don't just like you
said, it's not haters, right.
But you kind of had to fortifyyour mind and protect your idea.
From because there are hatersout there, right. And everybody
who has something bad to say isnot a hater. Your husband is
your help mate right? Tiara is,my sister in law I'm married to
her sister, and I kind of lookat Tiara as my helpmate too. So

(31:28):
you're, it's great to havepeople to bounce ideas off of.
And you know, based on thefeedback you get, whether it is
hate, or whether it's someonetrying to make sure you're
sharp, you know iron sharpensiron, right? And that's, that's
very important to be able tohave the trait characteristic
and ability to discern adifference between hate is
someone trying to sharpen youand you can make sure you're
prepared for what's to come. Soyeah, hats off to your husband.

(31:50):
And it's always good to have, you know, a good person close to
you that can keep you strong inand help you. That's awesome

Tiara Jones (31:58):
Yeah, yeah. And also to be able to look back and
be like, okay, they're asking methese questions. I don't know
the answers. But you know, whatcan I do to mitigate this next
time? So like, you kind ofcourse corrected real quick and
be like, yeah, okay, this time,I'm just gonna go with it. So
that I mean, that's good. Youreally kind of got to do that
self evaluation. So okay, thatdidn't go so well. So what can I

(32:21):
do the next time to make surethat I don't get stuck in that,
you know, that same type ofmindset?

Taneshia Yerby (32:25):
Yeah, I think, yeah, he again, he's a
planner. So he just, you know,he wanted make sure I had all of
my, you know, T's crossed andI's dotted. And I was, you know,
so early into it, that I waslike, oh, this is overwhelming.
But now, you know, I know nowthat when I come to him with
something I, you know, I havemost of my ducks in a row. I'm
like, alright, this is whatwe're doing. Because he, he's

(32:46):
just, he, he's gotta know what'sgoing on. And you know, he's
just, he's a differentpersonality than I am. So

Tiara Jones (32:53):
yeah, that's very similar to Ray and I, like, he
will hold on to something, hewas, I'm not gonna tell you
anything, until I know, I haveall the information to the
questions that I know, you'regoing to ask me be like, Well, I
haven't heard anything from you,you know, what an X, Y and Z. He
was like, Yes, that's purposelyI do have some stuff, but I
don't have all the answers. I'mjust gonna hold it till I have
everything. And that took for usto figure that out. Because then

(33:14):
we were, you know, best businesspartners, like bumping heads,
like you didn't tell me this, you didn't tell me that. And he
was like, I got reason why Ididn't tell you. And then we
just weren't telling each othernothing. But I guess God had to
take us through that period tofigure out you know, how to
really, you know, communicatewith each other. But we got to
know,

Ray Mayfield (33:30):
that's a learning process.
learning process. Yeah.
Absolutely. But you know, as yougrow, you hope to grow together
and with a God in the middle. Soit all works out for the benefit
of not just you, but the peopleyou come in contact with so
that's awesome.

Tiara Jones (33:44):
Right. And so, I mean, that goes back to me to
communicating with the peoplethat are around, you know, how
to communicate, you know, withyour spouse, or, you know, with
your other friends, like certainfriends you can talk to about
things and some friends, youcan't some things you can go
early with. And some you can'tso just know, you know, that
communication and you know, howyour relationship is with that
person and act accordingly. So,avoid, you know, getting caught

(34:08):
up in your, your emotions oranything like that, right. Yeah.

Ray Mayfield (34:11):
when you look at, like, your gifts, like, I'm
So, soalways interested, like, you
know, how, you know, you're soyou're, you have a strong faith,
strong belief in God, you know, shout out to you we're both
Christians as well, too. Youknow, you say your prayer times
when God you know, gives youwhat you need for the benefit of
others, like so how do you howto how did that come about?
Right, you know, how did youtake, you know, your, your, you
speak confidence into yourselfand turn it into a kind of an

(34:35):
opportunity to speak confidenceinto others? Like, how did all
that come about?

Taneshia Yerby (34:40):
I think, um, so I created the social media
platform back in 2018. Andagain, I said, I was doing like
a lot of reposting content. Andthen God dealt with me on that
he's like, you know, if you'renot saying what I'm telling you
that people are not hearing itbecause you're keeping it for
yourself. So I I just took aleap one day, I was like, Well,

(35:03):
you know, I'm gonna try and postthis without using a Pinterest
post, and I'm gonna see how itgoes. And it, you know, it did
okay. And I was like, Alright, well, I'm gonna try it another
day. And then I just kept tryingit. And here we are, three years
later, where I don't do anycontent that's, you know, from

(35:25):
someone else. So yeah, I justkind of, you know, I just had, I
had to work my way up to it, forsure. I wasn't, you know, it was
something different for me. So Iwas a little nervous in the
beginning. But I think most ofthe things well, it's apparent
from the community growth, Ithink the things that God tells
me, while I'm dealing withfinding my purpose, and you
know, entrepreneurship, I thinkit's just relatable to so many

(35:47):
people. And so that's, you know, how I use my gifts on a daily
basis, just kind of repeatingwhat He has said to me. So a lot
of the messages are for me tothey're not just for the
community, they're for me, too.
I get, you know, gut checkedfirst by God, and then I give it
to the community. So yeah,a lot of this stuff is for me

Ray Mayfield (36:05):
Take take was for you to share with others, and
you touch someone who is in thesame circumstances and do the
same thing to them, when youfeed him the same way. You got
fed, that's great. Great, that'scool.

Tiara Jones (36:14):
Yeah, and that's the one thing about social media
that I can appreciate that youcan reach people that you can't
physically, you know, touch orsee or anything like that, and
you can still kind of workthrough a situation. So you may
not have someone, you know, inyour, you know, local area to
really reach out to, to help outwith something, but you can
connect with so many otherpeople and really kind of build,

(36:35):
like a friendship, virtually.
And I think we've learned thatover these past two years with
the pandemic, that you canreally, you know, get to know
someone virtually, and it can begenuine. And, you know, it can
be really authentic.

Taneshia Yerby (36:48):
Yeah, I've built some great relationships,
just from social media. Yeah,it's, it's a whole world out
there that's online. And thereare people that are like minded,
just like you, you know, theywant to connect with you, they
don't have any hidden agendas.
And so you just got to findthose people. And it's, it's fun

(37:08):
when you find those people, because, you know, they're on
the same page, as you, I think, sometimes we, myself included,
you know, you get, most of yourfriendships are kind of by
commonalities, you know, we wentto school together, or we work
together or, you know, we wentto church together, and you
don't really, as an adult, it'skind of hard to develop friends
who are, have the same mind asyou outside of those

(37:29):
commonalities, you know, yourfriends, because you both are
creative, your friends, becauseyou both are into business or
entrepreneurship. So yeah, it'sexciting. When you find your,
your tribe of people who are,you know, on the same path as
you,

Ray Mayfield (37:41):
that's great.
That's awesome. That's awesome.
We said, like, We were meetingwith one our customers earlier
this week, and that we're havinga conversation about somebody or
somebody else on another email,I'm like, you know, they just
say like, the six degrees ofseparation, right? Everybody's
connected in a world with sixpeople. I think it's like three
to three people now, especiallywith, you know, social media,
and the internet, like, youknow, you can touch anybody

(38:02):
across the across the bubble. Ithink that's, that's, that's
very cool. Very awesome. Andlike, you know, I'm, I'm happy
and excited for you, man. Like, thanks for sharing your gift
with the world. Absolutely.

Tiara Jones (38:12):
Yeah. Yeah. And that just goes back to, you
know, us knowing Jewel Yeah.
Like I had without looking at,you know, Taneshia's content and
things like that, and what shewas putting out, I had no idea
that, you know, she was relatedto Jewel or anything like that.
And so and then seeing Jewel, you know, post something about
her. And then I was like, Oh, Ilove her too. And they're like,
oh, my goodness, that's crazy.

(38:34):
You know, that we kind of, youknow, connected in that kind of
roundabout way. But it's justlike, I just found you from, you
know, the awesome, you know, content that you put out and it
just so happened that you are,you know, also family of, you
know, pretty much we're ourextended sister.

Taneshia Yerby (38:49):
Yeah, I know. I thought that was pretty cool,
too. So yeah, it's a smallworld. So

Tiara Jones (38:54):
it is very small world. So how does your family
interact with your business?
Yes, so

Taneshia Yerby (39:00):
my daughter has just started being able to
interact with um, she helps youpack and ship orders. So my
husband actually built out ashipping station for me in our
basement. So I have it all setup and everything is kind of
lined up. And so she helps mewith that. I had a photo shoot
yesterday. So she came alongwith that. I mean, she was it

(39:22):
was hot outside yesterday, butshe was a trooper, she came out
there with me for that. And thenmy husband, he is the he's the
numbers guy. And again, theplanner. So whenever I'm like
hitting a wall, I'm like,alright, this is what I'm
struggling with. He's alwayshe's gonna find a way to like,

(39:42):
come up with another plan. So alot of the stuff that like the
cards, even the cards were justalmost not a thing. But he's
like, you know what those butyou guys just do what you have.
So yeah, that's how theyinteract with it. My parents
like the the night of launch, myparents came up here, and they
helped me do everything, theyhelped me, you know, organize

(40:08):
everything and put theaffirmation cards in like the
little sleeves, and they justhelped me do a lot of stuff. So
yeah, so I have a team of peoplewho helped me out and my team of
people is my family. So yeah,

Tiara Jones (40:20):
yeah, and that's big. So I hope people are
listening, especially productbased businesses, you don't need
a distributor or Amazon oranything like that, you know,
like, in the beginning, especially, to get your
materials out and get yourdifferent products out, you can
do it, you know, just reach outto those folks that are in your
corner. If it's your, yourfamily, your friends, they will,

(40:41):
if they're, you know, really foryou, and support you, they will
come and help you out in, youknow, the latest hour to get the
job done. So you don't need, youknow, all the fancy stuff. Yes,
that's nice. And as you grow, and you get bigger, you know,
those other you know, bigdistributors and things like
that can help you out. But youcan be just as successful and
have, you know, a great brand, just with building your own, you

(41:05):
know, like you said, your ownkind of shipping stage station
right in your home.

Taneshia Yerby (41:09):
Yeah, and I was the shipping station actually,
that he got it from a companyand they delivered the, the
wrong tabletop. So listen, I wasfully prepared to my shipping
station was going to be mykitchen table, if it hadn't got
here before my launch day, butit did and everything worked
out. But I think we kind of justlook at other people and what

(41:31):
they have going on. And weautomatically think we should
have that. And I think what wedon't realize is that some of
these people have unlimitedfunds, some of these people have
unlimited teams, you know, likethey have a team of 20 people,
and we have to give ourselvesgrace, because most of the time,
it is a one man show in thebeginning, it's a one man show,
and you're gonna have to be youknow, you have to be the graphic
designer, the shippingcoordinator, you have to find

(41:55):
the vendors and do all of thisstuff. And I think that we just
have to kind of give ourselfgrace, and do what you can in
the beginning. So and then, youknow, unless you plan on
checking out sooner than lateryou
got time. You know, you don'tneed to rush, right, unless you
plan on going somewhere go slow.

Ray Mayfield (42:12):
You know, try not to spend all your money in the
beginning. I mean, that's justYes, that's right. I mean, you
want to do you want to do it themost least expensive and
efficient way.

Tiara Jones (42:20):
Right. And you know, speaking things as though
they were we talked about if youdidn't have that, you know,
special table come in, you weregoing to use, you know, your
kitchen table, and you stillcall that your shipping station.
Yep. Still what it is like, youknow, the studio that me and Ray
use, it's a bedroom, but to us,it's our studio, right? Our this
our first studio, and so we'regoing to call those things and

(42:41):
you know, not to despise thosesmall beginnings and where we
start, because it still has thesame result. It may not look
fancy, it may not look pretty, but as long as you're getting,
you know, your products out ofthe door, you're getting your
content out, people have no ideawhat you have behind the scenes,
right making that happen. Andnone of that matters as long as
you're able to do it with aminimum amount of stress. Go for

(43:04):
it.

Taneshia Yerby (43:04):
Right, yeah. And I like to say control what you
can control and the things thatyou can't control do not stress
over it. I cannot control that Idon't have a warehouse and I
don't even need a warehouseright now. But that's something
that I can't control. Do I havethe finances for a 10,000 foot
warehouse? No, I can't controlit. What I can control is that
my customers, their product getsshipped out in a timely matter,
and you know, manner and thatthey have their product for

(43:27):
quality. And you know that thecustomer service is there, if
they have an issue. Those arethe things that I can control
that they have a good experiencewhen they shop on the website.
So yeah, I just control what Ican. And then the things that I
can't I'm like, you know what, listen, we got to make do with
what we got right now. So right?
Yeah,

Tiara Jones (43:44):
that's right, because they can't see the
behind the scenes, what they cansee is that experience on the
front end. So like you said, ifyou want to be worried about
something, be worried aboutthat. And not about the things
that they don't even know what'sgoing on. Because sometimes we
just right in own way. And sincewe know it, because I think that
kind of happened with us, likewe were, we were working on, you
know, one of our e commercewebsite, and I was like, I don't

(44:07):
like the way that this looks. Hewas like, but you don't like it,
but it's you're not the one thatwe purchasing from it's going to
be other people. So how aboutyou just put it out in them and
get feedback and go from there?
I'm like, Okay, yeah, you'reright. It's not about what you
know how I think it looks, youknow, to a degree, but more
about what what's the experienceon the front end?

Taneshia Yerby (44:23):
Yeah, as long as the website is functioning, you
can take payments or whateveryou need to and it's clear, then
yeah, that's really all thatmatters. Your customer can find
what they're looking for easily.
That's it.

Ray Mayfield (44:34):
I'm a big believer in minimalism. So I'm a
minimalist, so But yeah, did youguys

Tiara Jones (44:40):
have one last question? Yeah, she talked about
you know, having limited fundsand things like that, but still
been able to go for it. Sowhat's one resource that has
been a free resource that hasbeen super helpful for you, you
know, kind of as you start tobecome an entrepreneur and as
your and how your business hasevolved into, you know, sending
out products and not justcreating branding,

Taneshia Yerby (45:00):
um, as far as you mean, for like content
creation or something specific,you

Tiara Jones (45:06):
mean? Oh, no. So like, if it's been certain
books, podcasts, anything that'skind of helped you out that you
were just kind of able to, youknow, grab at a you know, hands
link just to help you out thatyou didn't necessarily have to
go out and pay for, but it stillkind of helped you get to where
you are now?

Taneshia Yerby (45:23):
Yeah, I would say, I would love to make it
seem like I have it alltogether. And like, I get up at
six o'clock, and I listen topodcasts, I have coffee, and I
don't Okay, I just will behonest, I and I don't have one
specific podcast that I listenedto. But since I am on social
media, and I hear snippets ofother, you know, people that are
posting podcasts that have comeout, I listened to random

(45:44):
podcasts that offer really goodinformation. And then sometimes,
you know, I don't always listento like one type of podcast, if
I'm looking for you know how tocreate better content, I might
listen to a podcast that'stalking about content. If I am
looking for a podcast that, youknow, tells me how to create a
better conversion based website, then I might, you know, listen

(46:07):
to a podcast that talks aboutwebsites. So it's all kind of
random, but I piece it alltogether. It's, it's all just a
puzzle that I'm trying to build.
And yeah, so that's what I'vebeen doing lately. I will read
parts of books, blogs, andwhatever. And yeah, people that
I will say this, I don't followa lot of people who do the same

(46:28):
thing that I do, but I follow alot of people who offer
something different. So thereare people who offer, they talk
a lot about, like how to createbetter content as far as like
visuals and things like that. SoI might follow them and say, Oh,
that's, that's a nice idea forreel or for, you know, a post or
something. But yeah, so I justkind of just pull pieces from

(46:48):
everywhere and piece ittogether. And then I kind of
just jot it down for a laterdate. And, you know, pull what I
need.

Tiara Jones (46:58):
That's it, that's it. So you can't you cannot
downplay what you have to offer.
And you cannot let you know, you're limited access to things
that you think you need, youknow, get in your way of still
moving forward. There's a lot ofresources out there, podcasts,
different Facebook groups, youknow, clubhouse, you know,
different meetings and thingslike that books, like you said,

(47:18):
you know, your read some books, and sometimes you don't even
need to read the whole book, butsometimes just one chapter can
help you out on somethingspecific that you're working on.
So yes, we love that.

Taneshia Yerby (47:30):
Right? Yeah. So whatever you have my that will
be my advice to people what usewhatever you have, if you, you
know, don't have a team ofpeople, it is just you just
start off with that. Um, and ifyou are only able to release one
email a month, and update ablog, once every two months, do
what you can. Now that's not tobe mistaken with procrastinating

(47:53):
and dragging your feet, there isa fine line there. But do what
you can without getting yourselfto the point of burnout. There's
so much that I want to do withthis brand. But again, I don't
have the capacity for it rightnow. So it'll get done when it
gets done. But right now I'm,you know, I'm doing the most
that I can. I'm already doingthe late nights and stuff like

(48:14):
that. So yeah, I'm just doingwhat I can. And I encourage
everybody else to just do whatworks for you. Like don't
compare yourself to people thathave you know, a team of 15 they
have a graphic designer inhouse, they have somebody doing
the content, you know, don'tcompare yourself to those people
just kind of focus on what youhave going on, and then do what

(48:35):
you can. And eventually itgrows. As long as you're
consistent with it consistentwith your messaging it there's
no choice but it for it to grow.
Because you're putting in thework, you're building your voice
you're building, you know, yourbrand awareness, you're doing
everything that you should bedoing. I think it we just have
to get that in our mind. Like, there's literally nowhere for
you to go but up. That's it.

Tiara Jones (48:59):
I love it. Love it, you you don't encourage us, very
encouraging to us. Just I justhave transparent, that you've
been so honest, that you've beenwith not having it together, not
able to put out everything youwanted to put out. I'm not
reaching the initial goal thatyou had for your product, but
you still push through I mean, this was all so so so helpful.

(49:21):
And I know if we were blessed byI know others are going to as
well.

Taneshia Yerby (49:24):
Okay, I hope so.
