Charlie shares a heartfelt and unfiltered Mother's Day episode after her son's brief attempt to take over leaves her scrambling to create content. She opens up about her 25 years of motherhood, the joys and challenges of raising children, and why she wouldn't trade the experience for anything in the world.

• Original plan for son to host the Mother's Day episode fell through when he only recorded a few minutes
• Being a mother for 25 years with a significant age gap between her children
• Balancing life as a single mother with no co-parenting support
• Days that start at 5am and end at 8pm with work, swim practice, and other responsibilities
• Teaching old-school values like ironing clothes and changing out of school clothes
• Importance of self-care and taking time to recharge as a mother
• Mother's Day isn't about gifts but giving moms time to rest and be themselves

(00:22):
So Mother's Day is around thecorner and that means that
plenty of lovely ladies aroundthe world will be getting gifts.
Some get flowers, others getgift cards, and my mom gets a
simple letter of my admiration.
I kid, I kid, but Mother's Dayis a very special time of year.
It's when we get to enjoy thosewho brought us into this world.

(00:48):
So, in honor of that day, I'mgoing to say some very
embarrassing things about my mom.
Like, she always likes to judgeme for spending my money on
video games, but yet every otherday she gets caught with the
hypocr, I know, or what else.
Oh, she also sleeps like a bear.

(01:08):
She's a light and heavy sleeperat the same time, and her
snores put me to shame.
It might seem like I don't likemy mom, but I do, and here's
the story on how I've shown thatI love her.
So on Sunday the club that Iswam for was having an award

(01:28):
ceremony and it was beingsponsored by this local cake
company and when I went up toget my food I grabbed one of
their little cakes Because Ithought it was vanilla, because
they ran out of chocolate.
And when I got back to my seatand I ate it, I was like, wow,
that that's lemon, and my mom isnot very good with lemon.

(01:53):
So I went out to where she wasto tell her and she was this
close to eating hers and I waslike, hey, can I try a piece?
I can see if it's lemon or not.
And it was women.
So I kind of saved her and got25 dollars in exchange.
So not bad, not bad.
Another thing she did reallynicely was back in october.

(02:16):
I had dropped my phone and itwas really messed up and I'd had
this phone for going on twoyears.
And since she already needed anew phone, we traded ours in and
I got a iPhone 16 and it'sawesome, fits my hand, it's
great.
What else?

(02:37):
Oh, another thing she did thatjust shows how much she truly
loves me is we went on a littlevacay for spring break.
As my birthday gift.
We got to ride a jet ski.
That was really cool.
We also just got to walk aroundthe Bahamas and brought back

(03:02):
some souvenirs.
To walk around the Bahamas andbrought back some souvenirs.
But those were just some thingsthat mom has done that shows
that she loves me.
And to mom, I love you too.
And shout out to all moms Y'allrock, it's your host, lj Out.

Speaker 2 (03:23):
Hey guys, welcome back to the Gag Is pie.
I am your girl, charlie Shantae.
Thank you for joining me onanother episode, and I know
you're probably wondering like, wait a minute, we just heard
another introduction, so why arewe hearing her?
Well, well, well, let me tellyou why you're hearing me.
You're hearing me because theperson that was supposed to be

(03:46):
filling in for me was notprepared.
And when I say not prepared, actually, before we get there,
make sure you are following meon IG, at the gag is pot and
YouTube as well, and whereveryou listening to this episode at
whatever streaming or podcastservice, make sure you are in

(04:08):
that right hand corner.
You're hitting thatnotification so that every time
a new episode is released, youget it.
Now that we got all of thatbusiness out of the way, you're
like ma'am, we just heardanother introduction, so why are
we hearing another one?
You know why?
Because the person that wassupposed to be doing it left me

(04:32):
hanging.
New face left me hanging.
So he's like no, mom, he waslike I got it, I'm gonna do the
episode for you and you know Iwant you to have this episode
this week off.
Y'all know I pre-record, so I'mlike, okay, cool, he only

(04:54):
recorded about a few minutes.
And he was like and I was like,oh, my episodes are like
between 20 and 30 minutes.
Like what do you mean?
You are done.
He's like, yeah, I'm done.
And I was like okay, there youhave it.
So here it is the week ofMother's Day and I'm recording

(05:16):
episode because it's Mother'sDay.
Why wouldn't I put out anepisode for Mother's Day?
Like, why would I not do that?
You know?
I'm like cause I asked him.
I was like I can write you ascript, I can write you
something to help you stay ontask.
You know all this kind of stuff.
And he's like no, I got it.
I got it.
And I was like okay, yeah, soy'all got me this Mother's Day

(05:42):
weekend, but it's okay, I don'thave no script today, because I
didn't have anything planned,because I didn't think that I
was going to be doing an episodethis week and I have a flight
that leaves in a few hours.
So, yeah, yeah and yeah.

(06:03):
So this one's going to be offthe top of the head, off the top
of the dome, but nonethelessit's still going to be a good
episode.
So, grab your drink, grab yoursnacks and whatever it is you do
when you listen to this.
If you're in a car, make surethe car is turned up so that you
know you can get this fullness, and I hope, the kids in the car
too, because I want to hear, Iwant them to hear, the

(06:23):
foolishness that occurs with mychild and my children.
You, I want them to hear thefoolishness that occurs with my
child and my children.
You know what I'm sayingBecause you know, without these
kids, there'd be no me.
I wouldn't have this amazingtitle, this thing we call mom.

(06:47):
You know, mother, mom made outof money Her she problem solver,
problem fixer, disciplinary, whatever title you put on it.
Now, I've had this gracioustitle for 25 years, right, 25

(07:15):
years, but I'm still young,right?
So sorry, I got to put thispillow on my back because you
know my back be hurting, youknow I'd be in pain.
I've had this title for 25years and I would not trade it
for the world.
And in addition to having thetitle of mom, I also get the
title of Mimi, um, which is likeso super amazing.

(07:36):
You know I wouldn't trade anyof that for the world.
Um, but yeah, this title of mom, I take it very, very, very,
very seriously.
You know there's a big age gapbetween my kids.
So here go y'all's episode.
I take it very, very seriouslyand you know, like the older

(08:02):
they get it's just like wow, like like my baby is 15, like
baby, like I.
When I say baby, people like oh, how does your baby?
Like six, seven.
I'm like no, he's 15 and he'ssix foot tall and they're like
man, that's not a baby.
Guess what?
He a baby to me, he a baby tome.

(08:23):
So I mean whatever.
But I think this thing calledmom like oh my god, and it is
stress out, it take you to theedge, right there to the edge,
to just just one little toenailhanging off the edge and you'd

(08:45):
be like I risk it all.
But then your child comes andtells you thank you, or you know
they show gratitude andappreciation and then you're
like oh, okay, and then you walkback off the ledge and you know
I just I ain't had a goodnight's sleep in 25 years, but

(09:15):
again I wouldn't, I wouldn'ttrade it for the world.
Um, I think I know my kids arespoiled and people like oh my
God, your kids are super spoiled.
So New Face has allergies, foodallergies.
So so he, I make his food, Imeal prep his food.

(09:41):
He get like real, real food, like real, real meals, and
everybody's like, oh my God,like, why can't he eat a
lunchable?
Why can't he eat a sandwich?
Well, who said he couldn't?
He can eat those things, butdoes it fill him up?
No, because my baby's acompetitive swimmer and he needs
like 5,000 calories.

(10:02):
Because boy can put down somefood.
I seen the boy put down a30-piece grilled nugget from
Chick-fil-A.
Okay, and one sitting Okay.
I think one thing is mothers, wehave our own style.
You know whether that be alearned style or whether that be

(10:23):
a style that you know we pickedup from being around other
people.
But one thing I know is peoplealways say I'm never like dang,
like you're such a good mom, andI'm like, really, you think so.
They're like yes, they're like.
You know, you're like dress, right, dress, you have it
together and I'm like who got ittogether?

(10:44):
They'd be like you and I'm likewho got it together?
They be like you and I'll belike I ain't got nothing
together.
Okay, because on any given dayI can wake up and go to work and
my ankles will be ashy.
Okay, I have woken.
I've woken up and gone to workand forgot to put deodorant on.
Okay, I do not have it together.

(11:07):
I just parent my kids in the waythat I see fit.
Whether you know, call it whatyou want, because I feel like in
today's world it is so cruelout here in the world and I

(11:28):
never.
I mean, I want my kids toexperience being in the world,
but I just, I just don't.
My kids are too good for theworld.

(11:50):
I'm just going to say thatthey're too kind-hearted.
I just want to protect my kidsat all times, shield whatever
may come their way.
You know, regardless of youknow, if they upset me or you
know we see an eye to eye orsomething.
I just always want to, um,protect them Like.

(12:10):
I just want to be their 1000%protector.
I want to be there, um, youknow, for guidance and, you know
, just a listening ear, you know.
But I also want them to beresponsible people as well.
But this mom thing whoo,whoo-wee, whoo-wee.

(12:34):
Like, had I known I was going tobe doing this episode, I could
have put a poll up about funnystories.
It's a lot more I could havedid.
So now y'all got to get like ashort freestyle episode and I'm
probably going to be ramblingand it's probably going to be a
lot going on, because what Like?

(12:55):
The boy left me hanging, heleft me hanging, he left me
hanging.
So I mean I should be boastingabout myself on this episode,
like how good of a mother I amand different stuff like that.
But here I am boasting aboutthese damn kids, you know, but
they, that's who what make me,me.
You know I'm saying, and thenyou know, my kids have an

(13:17):
amazing, awesome, awesomegrandma.
You know who's always there forthem, who's always making sure
that they good.
You know she don't give a damnabout their mama, but she makes
sure.
She makes sure they good.
But it's okay, it's okay.
You know, I tried to take thethings that you know I seen my
mom do in a structure that I hadwith her and I try to roll that

(13:38):
over into my kids.
So you know, I seen my mom doin a structure that I had with
her and I try to roll that overinto my kids.
So you know, shout out, mommy, even though I don't think she
listens to my episodes.
Um, but I just tried to takethe things that you know she
taught me and the things that mygrandmother taught me and
encompass them into my um, intomy parenting.

(13:59):
Today, like one of the thingslike I still have, make my kids
iron their clothes.
Like I know a lot of people, they just get up and they just
throw clothes on and itirritates, it burns me to my
soul, to my soul.
To see um, to see kids who arewrinkled.
That's just like the old ladyin me and I always hear like, oh

(14:23):
my God, like you still.
I still use starch.
I go to the store and I buystarch because you're not finna,
go nowhere outside with me andyour clothes is bunched up Like
you just got them out the bottomof the basket, like we're not
finna.
Do that Like when you gooutside, because you never know
who is outside or anything likethat.
You need to make sure that youlook decent, you look

(14:47):
presentable and stuff like that.
You don't want to go out therelooking sloppy.
Let me see what's somethingelse I do.
Before you go in my kitchen youneed to wash your face, you
need to brush your teeth, newface when you come home, you
need to change about them.
School clothes Don't be all upin the house with your school
clothes on, laying around onstuff.
Nope, you need to go changeclothes, put on something

(15:13):
Different, stuff like that.
Like, yeah, what else is amother?
Um, we make a lot of sacrifices, whether that be sleep, whether
that be time, different stuff, like my like, at least four days
a week.
My day starts at um, my daystarts at five and it doesn't

(15:38):
end until 8 at the latest.
So I'm at the house from 5am to8pm because I'm at work, and
then after work I go get newface.
He either got physical therapyor he got swim, and so by the
time I get home, ain't no timefor me.

(15:59):
It's time to take a shower, eatand lay down and get ready to
do it all over.
And so by the time Friday come,I'll be exhausted.
I ain't got time to go outside, like I used to go to my little
hole in the wall.
I don't even do that, no more.
I come home, I take me a shower, I eat me some food and I am on

(16:20):
the couch or in the bed becauseyour girl is tired, depending
on what Saturday is.
We might have swim.
I mean.
So as moms, we make there's alot of sacrifices that we make,
and you know I don't say this tocomplain, I just say it to say
that.
You know, sometimes we don'tget enough praise.

(16:41):
I'm a single mom, I, you know Idon't, I don't have help from,
from, you know, I don't haveco-parenting.
So you know, I'm just a singlemom doing it all on my own.
But I wouldn't trade it for theworld, I wouldn't trade it for

(17:02):
the world.
And I think, once new face uhstarts driving and stuff like
that, like I think, even thoughI'm going to have some time back
, I think it's going to botherme because I'm like, oh my God,
I feel like I should be doingsomething.
You know, um, but you know, butyou know I wouldn't, I wouldn't

(17:22):
trade it for the world.
And I'm one of those moms thatyou know.
I don't need breakfast in bed, Idon't need flowers, I don't
need the balloons.
Let me sleep.
I don't want to cook, I don'twant to clean up, I don't want
to do nothing.
That's the best gift you couldgive me Send me to the spa, fine
, well and cool, but let me beso.

(17:48):
This weekend I am treating, Iam, I am hopping me a quick
flight so that I can get acouple of days of myself and
then so I can come backrejuvenated and refreshed just
rejuvenated and refreshed,because if I don't recharge, I
can't be a good mother.
You know, I gotta, I gotta, stayfresh.

(18:10):
I gotta, you know, keep, Igotta keep myself together,
because if I'm not together, howcan I, how can I run the
household if I'm not together?
You know, I gotta stay together.
I gotta, I gotta, take a mentalhealth walk in the morning.
You know, mental health walkdown, down, down the run, what's

(18:34):
the thing called, the thing atthe airport.
I gotta, I gotta, I gotta takeme a mental health walk, you
know, just to make sure I'm good.
But but you know, moms, let'sremember, even though we are

(18:58):
there for our kids, we stillhave to take time for ourselves,
because if we do not take timefor ourselves, our body going to
shut down and it's going tomake us take time and it's going
to be.
It ain't going to be pretty, itain't going to be pretty at all
.
So, as moms, we got to makesure that we are taking time for
ourselves, we are appreciatingourselves, we are encouraging
ourselves and, you know, we'rejust keeping ourselves together

(19:19):
as a whole, even if somebodyelse doesn't tell you, even if
you know nobody else shows you,you know you're a good mom.
Keep doing what it is thatyou're doing, cause I know I'm

(19:42):
gonna keep doing what it is I'mdoing, you know, and taking time
for myself so that I cancontinue to be the best mom that
I can be for these people, youknow, making sure that they good
and um and different stuff likethat.
So, before we go, I know thatyou're like dang, this is like.
This is a short episode.
It'll be longer episode nextweek, don't worry, um.
Before we go, you know we gotour song lyric of the week and

(20:06):
since it is mother's day, I gotyou know there's a lot of songs.
So I'm going to give you notone, not two, but three song
lyrics of the week for this week.
So, of course, the OG song, first song lyric of the week is

(20:27):
going to be Tupac.
Dear Mama, you Are Appreciated.
That's going to be song one forsong lyric of the week.
My second choice is going to beBoyz II Men, mama.
And for my third one, it'sgoing to be I forgot the name is

(20:49):
Queen Naija, mama's Hands, Ithink that's what it's called.
I think that's what it's called.
But yeah, those are my threesong lyrics of the week.
