Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hello everyone, welcome back to our podcast. So

(00:03):
we have been doing a study onGalatians and we have been
looking at it verse by verse. Sowe are at Galatians chapter two
verse nineteen and twenty. Itsays, For through the law I died
to the law so that I might liveto God. I have been crucified
with Christ and it's no longer Iwho live but Christ who lives in

(00:23):
me.
And the life which I now live inthe flesh I live by the faith in
the Son of God who loved me andgave Himself up for me. I
remember when I read theseverses for the first time and I
used to get really confusedabout it because it talks about
being dead, it talks about wewere crucified with Christ.
Hello? I am still here. I am notcrucified.

(00:45):
So these were the certain thingswhich were a little bit
confusing for me. But I want tobreak it down so that it will be
understandable for everyone.First of all it says here, For
through the law I died to thelaw. So it has two parts here.
So it says that, Through the lawI died and its second part here
is, I die to the law.

(01:06):
So let's look at the first part,For through the law I died. We
died through the law. How didthat happen? So when Jesus came
to earth, He came into the oldcovenant. Galatians chapter four
talks about this, that He cameinto the old covenant.
He showed exactly how to livethe life of the old covenant and
He was blessed as a result andthrough Him we are blessed as

(01:28):
well. So that's the reason whyHe came into the old covenant.
But there's another side ofthings here. So when Jesus came
He lived life perfectly. No onecould live that perfect
following the law but Jesus did.
He kept the law perfectly andwhen Jesus carried the sins of
the world, what does the biblesay? That the wages of sin is

(01:50):
death and that is the law. Sowhen he carried the law carried
the sins of the world, in effecthe had to be punished. He had to
have the consequences or thewages of sin being death. He had
to go through that.
So that's why Jesus had to die. That's so that's why it says,
for through the law, I died tothe law. So through it was

(02:12):
through the law that Jesus died. Now let's go to the second part.
It says that I died to the law.
When did I die? That's thequestion here, right? So one of
the major things, of the centralthings when it comes to the
Gospel is that the Bible talksabout this, that we were
baptized into Christ Jesus. Iknow baptism is a term that is

(02:33):
commonly used when it comes towater baptism but baptism
generally means just inversion. So when it says we were baptized
into Christ Jesus it means thatwe were immersed in Him, we were
in Him.
Remember all the in Christverses that we see throughout
the scriptures that refers tothis that we were in Christ, we
are in Christ. The moment youbelieve in Christ, you have

(02:58):
faith in the Lordship of Christ, you are placed timelessly into
Christ. Ephesians chapter onesays that He who chose you
before the foundations of theearth and when you believe you
are placed timelessly intoChrist, inside Christ. Why is
this significant? Why is itsignificant that we are in
Christ?
Here's the thing, when you arein Christ it means that you

(03:21):
walked with Him, youparticipated in His death, in
His burial, in His resurrectionand you are seated with Him at
the right hand of God. That'swhat Colossians says that, you
are seated with Him at the righthand of God. So set your mind on
the things above. That's whatColossians three talks about,
right? So you were placed, you're seated with Him.

(03:42):
This is significant. Let's goback to the verses: For through
the law, because the lawdemanded death for sin, I died
to the law not just Christ, Iwas in Christ and because I was
in Christ I died to the law. What happened because of my
death? What was achieved becauseof my death? You see we were

(04:04):
married to the law according toRomans chapter seven.
We were married to the law. Sowhat happens is the law, Mr.
Law, let's call it Mr. Law. Mr.
Law is perfect and I'm the wife,Mr. Law is the husband. He's
perfect but he makes hugedemands right? He's absolutely
perfect. He's righteous.
There's no blemish. Nothingwrong with Mr. Law. But the

(04:27):
thing is that when I dosomething right he showers me
with gifts and everything but ifI do something wrong what
happens is that I have to gothrough a devastating time that
I've been punished severely. That's the law, right?
That if I do right, I'm blessed. If I do something wrong, if I
break the law, I'm punishedbecause of that. So that was Mr.

(04:50):
Law. So I am married to Mr.
Law. Mr. Law is making all thesedemands and I am not able to
keep my side off the law. I amfalling again and again and I'm
not able to keep the law thenI'm being punished severely over
and over again. So thiscontinues, so how do I get out
of this?
How do I get out of this miseryeven though Mr. Law is good? One

(05:12):
of us has to die, right? That'swhen the marriage breaks. But
the thing is that the Mr.
Law cannot die because what didJesus say? Jesus says that
heaven and earth may pass awaybut the law will never. Whatever
is written in the law will neverpass away. So the law, Mr. Law
will never pass away.
So I had to die. Connected withthe significance of our death

(05:35):
with Christ because we died inChrist we are no longer under
the law. We are under grace. Weare under the freedom that is in
Christ Jesus. That's whyGalatians chapter five talks
about living in the freedom andit says that live according to
the spirit, a recreated spirit, and you shall not gratify the

(05:56):
desires of the flesh.
So let's read it again. Forthrough the law, I died to the
law. You and me, everyone diedto the law so that I might live
to God. I have been crucifiedwith Christ and it is no longer
I who live, but Christ lives inme and the life which I now

(06:19):
live, I live in the flesh byfaith in the Son of God who
loved me and gave Himself up forme. These flesh and bones
contain the life of Jesus.
We have been crucified withChrist. We are seated in the
heavenlies. May God bless youall.
