Speaker 1 (00:00):
A few years ago I went to a church service back in

(00:03):
India, and while I was listeningto the sermon, it was very
fascinating that the preacherwas talking about the perfection
in which he had kept the law andthe people in that church had
kept the law. The church hadgone through a lot of blessings.
They were saying that we havelived a life of purity. This is

(00:24):
not just about that singlechurch, but you see this
throughout the world. You say itis by the grace of God that we
are able to keep the law.
So let me ask this question toyou. We know that there are six
thirteen laws, right? How manyof them are you keeping? When

(00:46):
someone says that they'rekeeping the law, how many of
them exactly are they keeping? They're definitely not keeping
the six thirteen laws because Idon't see them, you know, taking
a lamb and sacrificing the lambor doing anything like that.
But one thing very fascinatingis that when people say they're

(01:07):
keeping the law, they kind ofdivide it into moral and
ceremonial laws, which isnowhere in the Bible. It doesn't
say moral laws or ceremoniallaws, it says the law. So when
you see Paul bashing all thelaw, he means all of the law,
not just the ceremonial law,it's all of the law. Alright
let's get back into this. Sowhen you say that you're keeping

(01:30):
the law, how many of those lawsare you actually keeping?
I've noticed when I've talked topeople that people like to
cherry pick laws according towhat suits their needs. If
someone has a tattoo they saylook at that the Bible says that
you're not supposed to have atattoo, you're not supposed to
defy your body. But then a fewchapters later the Bible also

(01:54):
talks about having wearinggarments with two different
types of fabric and why is itthat we neglect that and we kind
of focus on the tattoo. Do wekeep all those 613 laws? The
Bible says that in Galatianschapter five it says that if you
are practicing the law you areobliged to keep the whole law,

(02:17):
whole law, and even James talksabout this.
He says that if you fail in one,you failed it all. I don't want
to belittle the people who arefollowing the law or trying to
follow the law because they havegood intentions, but you don't
realize that eventually you areentering into hypocrisy. Just

(02:39):
think about this, you'resupposed to follow the six
thirteen laws but we divide itand we say no we're gonna keep
this this moral laws. Even inthose moral laws, okay what
exactly are those moral laws?Nothing's written right?
So you've come up withsomething. What are those? Okay.
Some people actually say it'sthose 10 commandments. Alright.
10 commandments. So we shouldkeep the 10 commandments. Right?

(03:01):
What about the Sabbath law?Should we keep the Sabbath law?
You do your work on a Sabbath, you go and do your grocery
shopping on a Sabbath, so that'sa sin you're not keeping that
law. You're not supposed to doanything if you're following the
Sabbath law. Alright so thatmeans nine. You see where I'm
going with this right, you seethat I am cherry picking my own

(03:23):
laws here, I'm taking things atmy convenience. So if person A
has nine laws, person B has nineplus the tattoo law, and person
C has the nine plus okayornaments, they add traditions
to it, that they say that you'renot supposed to wear jewelry
because if you wear jewelrythat's a sin.

(03:45):
And I know of churches that theywon't allow you to take part in
communion if you wear jewelrysaying that it was forbidden in
the time of the Old Testament. Idon't know. That's not what the
Bible says but people add theirown traditions. So who comes up
with these things? Who gets todecide what laws to follow and

(04:06):
what laws not to follow?
That's the part where I'mconfused about. So if you're
saying that you keep nine, okay, should be consistent, but you're
saying nine plus some of theirtraditions, but some people say
that you're not supposed to dothis, you're not supposed to do
that. They pick and add laws asthey please. This is where the

(04:29):
problem is that we try to add upour own traditions and we put
that as a law. Another law isabout tithing.
People actually say that youneed to every month, and if you
don't tithe, you're violatingGod, you're robbing God. And
they use Malachi chapter threein order to say that, and here's

(04:51):
another one law. So that is nineplus, you know, the the tithing
law plus the tattoo law. This isabsolutely comical because the
Bible doesn't say that. If youare a Gentile, which is more
likely that you are, did youknow that you don't have to keep
those laws because the laws werenot given to you in the first

(05:14):
place?
But yeah, if you're planning tokeep the law, make sure you keep
the six thirteen of those, nopicking and choosing because if
you do one of the laws, if youkeep, if you start with the law,
you're obliged to keep all ofthe law and the Bible says that
you are under the curse of thelaw. Instead of keeping those

(05:34):
laws, we are supposed to live bythe spirit. The Bible says that
we are saved by grace throughfaith and not by a checklist of
do's and don'ts. The Biblesalvation is about what Christ
has already done, and it's notabout what you have to do over
and over again in order to besaved. It's not about you keep

(05:55):
your salvation or you show yoursalvation by doing a set of
things.
You're either saved or youaren't saved, And salvation is
by faith, and salvation is byfaith, and God provided to us
everything by grace. And yousee, it's not about about what
laws to keep, it's not aboutcircumcision, it's not about
what tattoos you had, it's notabout what you wear during

(06:18):
communion and all of those kindof things. Instead, we're asked
to live in the freedom that isin Christ Jesus, the freedom of
living in the spirit, that'swhat God wants from us and
that's what we're supposed todo. And I hope that you aren't
cherry picking laws and sayingthat you're keeping them. Either
keep those six thirteen laws, otherwise have faith in God and

(06:41):
trust for His righteousness.
And I hope you understand thatI'm saying it sarcastically
because by keeping the law noman will be justified.
