Pastor Brandon Holm (00:47):
Welcome,
guild guildmates, as we continue
our quest in our series, Stand. We delve into part four of this
epic saga through the book ofDaniel. Let us reflect on the
lessons of faith, resilience, and divine encounters we've
explored together. In our firstmessage, stand out, we journeyed
with Daniel as he distinguishedhimself by his unwavering
(01:11):
commitment to God, admitsBabylonian pressures. Second,
message, we talked about beingable to stand up where we saw
our hero courageouslyinterpreting dreams for a king
undeterred by the potentialfatal consequences.
And last week, stand strong wastruly a testament to Daniel's
(01:34):
resilience in the lion's den, aninspiration for all who face
their darkest hours. So today,we're we're turning our text to
Daniel chapter 10 where our heronow advanced in years and and
has gained all this wisdomcontinues his unyielding
spiritual battle. Now, he haswitnessed decades of oscillation
(01:57):
between despair and hope, yethis spirit remains steadfast. At
this point in our story, Danielis immersed in a personal trial,
The even longer twelve or twentyone day fast, seeking divine
guidance without worldlydistractions, praying for the
liberation of his people, andthe restoration of the temple. I
(02:18):
want you to remember, Daniel isold testament, but these lessons
are what Jesus fortified laterin his ministry.
And this highly narrativenarrative chapter finds him
receiving a vision, a divinerevelation meant for his eyes
alone, not for kings, not forhis companions, just for him.
(02:38):
Preparing us to grasp the unseenbattles fought in the spiritual
realm and encouraging us tostand in faith. Let us again
return to the book of Daniel, specifically chapter 10 where
Daniel stands isolated from allbut the divine. Amidst his fast,
a vision breaks out, breaks themonotony of his spiritual
(03:00):
solitude. So let's hear thewords of that are recorded in
scripture, and this comes fromDaniel chapter 10 verses five
through nine.
I lifted up my eyes and lookedand behold, a man clothed in
linen with a belt of fine goldfrom upthas around his waist.
(03:23):
His body was like barrel, hisface like the appearance of
lightning, his eyes like flamingtorches, his arms and legs like
the gleam of burnished bronze, and the sound of his words like
the sound of a multitude. And I,Daniel, alone saw the vision,
for the men who were with me didnot see the vision, but a great
(03:44):
trembling felt upon them. Andthey fled to hide themselves. So
I was left alone and saw thisgreat vision, and no strength
was left in me.
My radiant appearance wasfearfully changed, and I
retained no strength. Then Iheard the sound of his words.
And as I heard the sound of hiswords, I fell on my face in deep
(04:06):
sleep with my face to theground. In this revelation,
Daniel encounters a celestialbeing of awe inspiring presence.
Dressed in linens with a belt ofpurest cold, his vision is
bright and, you know, aslightning and his eyes like
flaming torches.
This figure's voice powerful asgathered multitude underscores
(04:28):
the gravity of the message hebears. Unlike previous
encounters where Daniel hadcompanions, this vision is for
him alone. His companionsoverwhelmed by fear, unseen yet
deeply felt forces driving themaway. Daniel though alone faces
this divine messenger. Drunkwith weakness yet compelled by
(04:50):
the need to understand.
This vision sets the stage for amessage of profound importance
delivered from the divine toDaniel, a faithful servant
standing in faith against thetrials of time. From the depths
of weakness and solitary vision,Daniel finds himself touched by
a comforting presence. And herelet's continue in scripture with
(05:14):
us with, I can't speak today. With, 10 through eleven. And
behold, a hand touched me andset me trembling on my hands and
knees.
And he said to me, oh, Daniel, man greatly loved. Understand
the words that I speak to youand stand upright. For now, I
(05:37):
have been sent to you. When hehas spoken this word to me, I
stood up trembling. So reelingfrom this overpowering vision,
Daniel is revitalized bycelestial touch that lifts him
up, setting him upon his needs.
A position of both supplicationand readiness. The divine
messenger recognizing Daniel'sdevotion turmoil addressing him
(05:59):
with an admiration of love andimportance. Oh, Daniel, a man
greatly loved. Thisacknowledgment is not just a
reassurance of Daniel's valuebut a call to of, you know, call
to courage and attention. Theangel commands Daniel to
understand and to stand upright,Signifying that despite his
physical weakness, his role inthis divine drama requires
(06:22):
strength and comprehension.
Trembling and yet obedient,Daniel stands ready to receive
the deepest the deeper truthswaiting to unfold. This act of
lifting and empowering serves asa pivotal pivotal moment
symbolizing the spiritualsupport that bolsters us when
our own strength fails. AsDaniel steadies himself, the
(06:47):
messenger reveals the celestialdynamics at play behind the
scenes of human affairs.Continuing in this chapter, we
are going to read through 12verses 12 through 14, the whole
details of this full disclosure. And then he said to me, fear not
Daniel, for from the day firstday that you set your heart to
(07:11):
understand and humbled yourselfbefore your God, your words have
been heard, and I have comebecause of your words.
The prince of the kingdom ofPersia withstood me twenty one
days, but Michael, one of thechief princes came to help me.
For I was left there with thekings of Persia and came to make
you understand that what is tohappen to your people in the
(07:33):
latter days. For the vision isfor days yet to come. This
revelation unveils a strugglefar beyond human comprehension.
From the very moment Danielbegan his fast and prayers, his
words ascended to the heavens, triggering divine actions.
He had a formidable spiritualentity. The prince of the
(07:55):
kingdom of Persia opposed theangel resulting in a celestial
standoffs lasting,coincidentally, twenty one days.
It was only what the arrival ofMichael identified as one of the
chief archangels that themessenger was able to continue
his journey to Daniel. Thisnarrative highlights a profound
truth. Our spiritual endeavorson earth are deeply intertwined
(08:20):
with the heavenly realms.
The conflicts and challenges weface are not merely our own, but
are connected to a larger cosmicbattle between divine forces and
spiritual adversaries. Daniel'ssteadfastness in prayer, coupled
with the unseen yet intensespiritual warfare, underscores
the significant impact of ourfaithfulness in the ongoing
(08:42):
battle between light anddarkness. Think about that. You
have days where they're just baddays and you go, oh, it's just a
bad day, and yet you powerthrough it. And when you pray
and daily and when you say, youknow, get me through this.
Help me get the strength, whichI don't tell God to give me
strength because it with my sinof wrath, I could really lash
(09:04):
out at somebody. But I want youto understand, in Daniel, what
we're seeing is a full prophecycoming up to where we're not
gonna even say that here becausewe're gonna wait that to the
next message. But things aregoing on behind the scenes that
(09:24):
you're probably not aware of.Seriously, think about that. Bad
days happen.
Good days are great. Bad dayssuck. But we continue to
persevere. And when we findthat, you know, maybe something
happened to us that was just sobad, we'll ask ourselves, you
know, what's the point? Whyshould I go on?
But in the background, whatyou're not seeing is the battles
(09:46):
that are getting you to thatnext great day. It just means
that you've got to be around forit. Taking point that we've had
a couple of incidents withpeople, through social media who
have wanted to, self deletethemselves. That's the spirit
what they're not seeing is thespiritual battle before behind
(10:07):
the scenes that the angels, thatGod, that Jesus are putting in
place to make sure that they goto the next day, and the enemy
will win if those people selfdeleted. Thank god those people
did not.
In fact, we've got from one ofthem knowing full well that they
didn't do it, got back withtheir friends, and let out a
(10:28):
message, and it was great tohear that. Trust me. I have
provided a funeral service for afriend who did self delete. I'll
tell you this. It is not cool.
Not just for, you know, thepeople in the family and the
friends and all that, but for meas a friend as well. Performing
(10:49):
a service for someone who'syounger than me, I mean, let's
be honest. That hurts even morebecause I'm supposed to they're
supposed to outlive me in my,you know, traditional ideology
but it it is so much heart moreheartbreaking because you've
known this person, you've triedto work with this person, you
(11:12):
have done everything in yourpower, you've prayed for them,
you've prayed over them, You'veprayed with them, and they
decided that self deletion isthe only way to go. That's not.
I've tried it twice myself, seriously, until I realized one
thing.
First of all, God does not makegarbage. So you're if you're
(11:32):
thinking of it, no, don'tbecause God doesn't make
garbage. He made you in hisimage. It doesn't matter what
other people think and that'sthe other thing is in Daniel, in
this chapter, we're talkingabout a full score battle. And
Daniel wasn't even around forthe one battle between the
(11:53):
Persian king and and themessenger.
We're talking about the battlesthat are going on behind the
scenes for us. God and everybodyelse wants you to succeed. It
may not be the way you wannasucceed. It may not be wealth.
It, you know, it may not be, youknow, power.
You know? You may not be thepresident of The United States.
(12:13):
You may not be the mayor of yourcity, but there's always someone
in the background rooting foryou. There's always somebody in
the background fighting for you.You won't see it.
You probably won't feel it, butknow that you're important to
God and he's doing everything inhis power to make sure that
first of all you stay around tosee the biggest and bestest life
(12:37):
that you can have. And for thoseof you that don't believe and
are listening to this messageseriously and I do mean
seriously, don't consider selfdeletion as a as a resort.
Again, you can fight throughthis. Find people that are like
minded in God and Jesus to prayover you, to pray with you, tell
(12:59):
them what's happening. BecauseI'll tell you this, friends who
are so plugged in to God andJesus are gonna find ways to
help you get to that next level,to help you get through your
battle.
I am so glad that I had peoplein my life that were so plugged
into God, even though I didn'trealize it, really didn't carry
(13:23):
also at the time. But thosepeople so plugged into God. And
when they told me, God does notcreate garbage. And this is
after my second attempt. There'sjust a whole world out there
that, you know, I wouldn't behere today talking to you about
(13:44):
how great God is, how greatJesus is, why I believe Jesus is
the savior, and he's your saviortoo.
Just have faith. That's allwe're asking for. It's all God
has asked for. That's all Jesusreally asked for is have faith
in him and in god in god. So inthis whole thing of Daniel,
(14:06):
seriously, stand up in yourfaith.
You may be weak. You may bebeaten. Stand up and pray. Stand
up and have faith. Stand up andsay to yourself, god today
sucks.
I want to do tomorrow to bebetter. And even if that doesn't
happen, ask yourself, okay, godwhat do I need to do? Because
(14:31):
even with prayer, even witheverything, we have to do
something to help it along. Anddon't go on your own thing and
say, well, I don't need prayer.Go with prayer and say, God, I
don't know what to do.
I have no idea what I need todo. Trust me. Once you get to
that level, everything will justfall into place. And I'm not
(14:52):
saying it's miraculous. I'm notgonna say it's gonna be
instantaneous.
But as you pray daily and whenyou get through the tough times,
say, okay, God, help me out onthis. And and with Daniel,
remember, he prayed daily. Hehad a routine. He prayed daily.
So get a routine of prayingdaily.
I do. And I'll tell you this, there are times I don't get what
(15:15):
I want. K? So okay. I don't getwhat I want, but I pray and say,
god, okay.
I didn't get what I want. Am Imissing something that I need to
do to plug myself in to getmyself going? Or am I missing a
core component in, say, mysermon or in my message to
(15:35):
people or when I talk to people?Sometimes that just helps and I
love it. So with this celestialcurtain partially drawn back,
yes we're going back to Daniel, the divine messenger's words to
Daniel resonate deeply for ustoday.
(15:57):
And this spiritual revelation iscaptured in in verse 19 where
the angel imparts the finalwords of encouragement. And he
said, oh man, greatly loved.Fear not. Peace be with you. Be
strong and of good courage.
And as he spoke to me, I wasstrengthened and said, let my
(16:17):
Lord speak for you havestrengthened me. In this divine
interaction, we are remindedthat even in the midst of unseen
battles, our call remains tostand firm in faith. The angels
commands to be strong, ye bestrong, emphasizes the need for
(16:40):
resilience and courage in ourspiritual journeys. Yeah. I know
I went back to King James for alittle bit, but, you know, I'm
not gonna fully repeat myselfsometimes.
But this charge not onlyreaffirms Daniel's role but
extends it to each of us, urgingus to persevere through our own
trials and tribulations with theassurance that our prayers,
(17:04):
remember daily prayer, and theactions that we get from that
divine wisdom through ourcommunication with God, through
interactions with people thatGod puts in place to help us.
They are significant in thegrand cosmic scheme. So let's
(17:24):
wrap up this narrative. Let ustake to heart this call to stand
in faith. It is a reminder thatwhile we might not always
perceive the effects of ourfaith, the impact is profound
extending into realms unseen.
In the spirit of Daniel, let'scontinue to encourage in our you
(17:45):
know, let us continue to inexcuse me, engage in our
spiritual disciplines. Fortifiedby the knowledge that we are
supported by divine forcesbeyond our understanding.
Finding battles that haveeternal consequences. They're
not localized battles. They'renot worldly battles.
(18:06):
They're eternal battles. So letus stand not just in hope. Hope
is great. Let's not just go onhope. But in the steadfast faith
that our God hears every prayerand acts on our behalf in ways
we might never even comprehend.
