The gap between what we say we want and what we actually do might be the single biggest obstacle to achieving our dreams. In this thought-provoking conversation, we tackle the paradox of desiring success while making choices that undermine it.

We begin by examining how many people (especially younger generations) express desires for greater success while simultaneously prioritizing activities that don't advance their goals. This contradiction reveals a fundamental truth: our actions, not our words, reveal our true priorities. The biblical principle "by their fruit, you'll know them" reminds us that results, not intentions, ultimately define our journey.

The conversation turns to a powerful reframing of Ecclesiastes' teaching that "time and chance happen to us all." Rather than being about luck, this wisdom reveals that time represents preparation, while chance represents opportunity. When preparation meets opportunity, breakthrough happens. Like David facing Goliath, those who appear "lucky" have actually prepared themselves to recognize and walk through doors when they open.

Risk-taking emerges as another crucial element of achievement. Whether opening a new business location or changing careers, stepping beyond comfort zones creates potential for greater rewards. We discuss how faith provides the foundation for risk-taking, allowing us to move forward despite uncertainty.

Perhaps most importantly, we challenge the common fear of failure that prevents action. Each failure provides essential lessons that prepare you for eventual success. Just as a baby falls countless times before walking confidently, embracing failure as growth transforms our approach to challenges.

The episode concludes with practical wisdom: have a plan. Goals without strategic roadmaps remain wishes. Like navigating without GPS, wandering without direction wastes precious time and energy. When you find yourself off course, sometimes the wisest move is simply to reset and return to fundamentals.

Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome back to the grind, everybody man, another
week.
How's your week been?

Speaker 2 (00:05):
martin, it's been good.
It's been a lot of fun.
It's been busy.
I had to get a little golf inyesterday, so it's fun now, you
played locally, right uh, aboutan hour and a half away, so okay
, yeah, that's awesome.

Speaker 1 (00:19):
Yeah, there was a lot of things, and I I got my handy
dandy tablet that I've beencarrying around with me and
you've seen me taking notes onUm, and there was just some
things throughout the week thatI just kind of come up and I was
like I'm going to jot that downso we can talk about it today.
And one of them was um, like alot of these younger kids, like

(00:42):
in their twenties, and howthey're talking about like
playing video games and likejust doing all this other stuff
besides seems like work.
And so I got to thinking aboutit of like a lot of these people
are talking about I want tomake more, I want more, I want
to be able to do more, but then,at the same time, they're

(01:05):
talking about oh, I'm going togo home and play video games,
I'm going to go home and, youknow, watch this show, whatever
the case may be.
And it got me thinking aboutlike how often does that happen
to us in our lives?
Right, like, oh, I want this, Ineed this, but then we make
excuses why we can't do it andwe make other things a priority.
I think sometimes it's soimportant to recognize what our

(01:27):
goals are and make things apriority that align with that
goal.
And so I kind of wanted to getyour take on this as well,
because I know how I feel aboutit and in the sense of like you
have to put in the work to getthe results that you're looking
for.
But I kind of wanted to getyour take on this as well as far
as like those scenarios.
Yeah, no, I.

Speaker 2 (01:49):
I mean, I think there's a lot to unpack right
there, um, and and I couldliterally go on for half a day
on it, which I won't.
It's deep, you know what I mean.
And I think that probably thefirst thing that comes to mind
is you know, there's a partwhere you know the lord says you
know, by, by their fruit, you'll know them.
So you judge a tree by itsfruit, right?
So if there's no, if there isno fruit on the tree, the lord,

(02:12):
you know, cursed it.
Or pull it up, right, yeah, burn it.
So when you think of it, youcan say whatever you want, but
ultimately your actions willdetermine.
That's why it's never.
It's never about what somebodysays, it's about what somebody
does.
You know what I mean.
I could tell my wife that, hey,I love you so much, but if I'm
out doing things or I'm messingaround, then my actions aren't

(02:34):
showing that I love her.
So it's all got to be based offactions which, unfortunately, I
think, especially with ouryounger generation, I think it's
harder.
You, our younger generation, you know, I think it's harder.
You know you got to rememberthat they've grown up in this
environment of there's a lowstandard.
You know, we don't want to hurtanyone's feelings, and I'm not

(02:55):
saying this is the case foreveryone.
There's always outliers, butit's a different time right.
There's no accountability.
You know, we're worried moreabout people's feelings than
truth.
You have all this stuff that'sin play where back in the day
you didn't have that.
You know what I mean.
So I think it's harder I don'twant to say it's harder I think
it's harder for them to be ableto like push past those bad lids

(03:21):
that have been placed on themNow.
Ultimately, I think that um formost people.
You know they're going to haveto get to a point where you know
they um go through life andthey experience pain to where
like, hey, I don't want thisanymore.
Um, and they'll grow.
And that's why I always thinkthat when somebody has a goal,
or if I'm talking to a businessowner, the first thing I ask him

(03:47):
is what's your why?
And a lot of times they're likewhy would you even ask me that
Cause?

Speaker 1 (03:49):
I need to know like if you don't have a big why,
once it go and gets tough, you're quitting.

Speaker 2 (03:51):
I need to know, like, if you have a big why, like
you'll, you'll do the thing youneed to do.
Like God forbid if, if thedoctor said, hey, you got cancer
and you got 30 days to live, you're going to do anything
possible to keep living Like, sothat's how I kind of look at it
.
Like you know a big why, youcan accomplish a lot.
If you have no why at all, you're probably not going to do

(04:13):
anything.
Right?
So everyone's on their ownjourney and everyone's going to
have to go through thatexperience.
But yeah, I mean, I, I don'tknow, I I don't have a lot of
and I know this can seem harsh, but like I personally don't have
a lot of like, if I meetsomeone that's young and they're
like, hey, can you talk, I'llpour India.
But like I'm one where I'm, youknow I have high standards and

(04:37):
I'm not going to lower mystandards for anyone.
So you know I'll help you.
But you know what I mean yougot to be willing to do the work
, you got to be willing to grind, you got to be willing to do
that.
And same with recruits.
We talk about athletes.
You know I could say hey, youwant to get recruited, but if
you get done with practice andyou go home on your own Xbox all
day, you don't want to getrecruited.
So are you willing to do thework?

Speaker 1 (04:57):
Yeah, no, totally, and I think that's been like a
common thing that's been I'veseen lately is like I want
change, I want somethingdifferent, but then you're like,
well, what are you willing todo?
Does that mean 18 hour days, maybe?
Are you willing to do that?

Speaker 2 (05:17):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (05:17):
I don't know.
You know and it's like well, maybe you do need to put in
those 18 hour days.
Maybe that does mean that, youknow, maybe you guys aren't, you
and your wife aren't spendingas much time together during the
season and maybe during thattime God's trying to work on
your wife to not rely on you butto rely on him.
You know, like I think we getso focused on these instances of

(05:39):
like gosh, why is God doingthis?
But there's always a reason andpurpose as to why God's doing
something.
So, rather than looking at thenegative, let's pull out the
positive.
Like what can we pull that'spositive from this?
Yeah, he's working a lot ofhours, but now I have all this
time to really get in my wordand grow in my relationship with
the Lord, where my truehappiness and everything comes

(06:01):
from in the first place.
So I think there's always apositive to everything, right?
So kind of brings me next tothe next thing of like people
always saying like man.
It just seems likeopportunities are always opening
up for certain people.

Speaker 2 (06:18):
Yeah, it's so good.
So here's the.
I want you to hold that realquick because I don't want to
lose it.
I want to go back real quick, but I do want to hear this part.
So here's the interesting thing, right, I think I think a lot
of times we get it wrong.
So we look at it like, oh God,I can't believe this is
happening to me, right?
Or we treat God like a genie ohGod, I'm in trouble or I need
money or whatever.
I need you to put it out thedoor.
That's how we treat God.
But the truth of the matter isright we reap what we sow.

(06:48):
So our bad decisions from thepast has probably placed you
where you are today.
So instead of blaming it on God, right, how about we figure out
hey, how can we make betterdecisions?
So in the future, we're in abetter place?
You know what I mean.
I'm just a believer.
The minute you fill in theblank, where, like if blank, you
know if this was better or ifthat person did or got it,

(07:10):
whatever the case is, the minutewe push blame on somebody else,
we've missed the point.
We haven't learned the lesson.
The lesson is we have to makebetter choices.
You make better choices, circumstances right you.
Whatever you plant in the seedin the ground today, in the, in
the future not tomorrow, notnext week, but in the future,
you're going to get a crop.

Speaker 1 (07:31):
So if you don't like the crop, plant different seeds
yeah, yeah, absolutely now theopportunity, because I get I
hear this all the time of like.
It just seems like things areconstantly opening up for people
and I know we've talked aboutthis before as well but it's
like at some point you have tomove your feet, like you have to

(07:51):
start doing something, and it'slike, okay, well, what are you
doing to improve yourcircumstance right now?
Oh, well, this.
And it's like the sob story andit's like, no, it's like time
to put on your big boy pants, get up and put in the work and
I'll just use this as an example, and it's not like to pat

(08:12):
myself on the shoulder oranything, but it's like right
now we're looking for a newlocation for a salon.
My, my goal was August of nextyear, but I'm like I'm going to
start putting in the work now, start aligning things now, start
planning for August, get incontact with a realtor, which
you guys have so graciouslyhelped us with, to get in

(08:33):
contact with a great realtor, and something might open up a
lot sooner than that, but ittook actions to get the ball
rolling, like it's not justgoing to fall into our lap
without actually putting in thework Right, and it's like, like
you've said, and you've saidthis, god created earth in six

(08:56):
days when he could have done itinstantly.
Right, there's a process thatwe always have to go through and
we have to move our feet.
So I just want to kind of getyour take on that as well,
because I know this has been abig conversation for us and I'm
I'm getting to the point whereI'm just like tired of like
hearing the sob story and I justwant people to understand, to

(09:16):
start moving their feet andputting in the work.

Speaker 2 (09:18):
Yeah, so it's interesting.
So this is actually this righthere.
It's one of my favorite pieces, right.
So I'm going to kind of put itthis way, which is funny,
because I think it was eitherlast week at church or a couple
weeks before the pastor broughtthis quote up and I wanted to
talk to him.
Afterwards.
I'm like, hey, let me, I wantto share with you how to go
deeper.
But then I'm like, how am Igoing to give advice to the

(09:41):
pastor?
But I struggled.
I was like, hey, I don't knowif you knew the back part.
So he brought up a verse whereit's in Ecclesiastes, where it
says it goes through the wholething.
I won't do it all, but theimportant piece is time and
chance happen to us all, and alot of times people will take

(10:03):
that and they'll try to fit itinto like luck.
But that's not what it'stalking about.
So when it talks about time andchance happen to us all, you
got to understand what time andchance represent.
So time represents preparationand chance represents
opportunity.
So what he's saying is rightprep when preparation meets
opportunity, that's when ithappens, right.

(10:26):
So we miss the preparation part.
So we have to be prepared.
So when the opportunity arises,we walk through and time will
no longer expose us.
Because if you're not prepared, two things will happen A,
you're never going to walkthrough the doors of opportunity
because you probably won't evensee them.
Or B, you'll see it, you'llwalk through it, but time's a

(10:49):
great exposure and you'll fanout right.
So, being prepared, then you'llbe able to walk through the
doors of opportunity, becauseopportunity happens to us all.
We all have opportunity everysingle day.
So that's what he's talkingabout and let me bring it back
to us all.
We all have opportunity everysingle day.
So that's what he's talkingabout and let me bring it back
to a verse, an actual story.

(11:10):
So, when everyone knows thestory of David, david and
Goliath, well, it's interesting.
There was thousands andthousands and thousands and
thousands of men at the battleOpportunity.
They all had opportunity toactually go and fight the giant.
They were there, they were inthe battle Opportunity.
They all had opportunity toactually go and fight the giant.
They were there, they were inthe battle.
I would say they were at thebattle, which shows me that you

(11:32):
could be at the battle but notbe in the battle.
But the interesting part aboutit is David shows up.
We know the story, sees what'sgoing on.
Here's the giant that find thearmies of God, of god, steps in
and the rest is history right.
Well, david, if you were to goback, david prepared himself
before, when he was, when he wasa shepherd.

(11:53):
There was two stories that talkhe talks about, when the, the,
the lion, grabbed the sheep andthe bear and the bible says he
chased both of them and foughtthem and got it back.
And the lion, not only did hefight, he grabbed it by the
beard, he got it back.
So he prepared during this time.
So when the opportunity arose,he walked through the doors.

(12:14):
So I think that's how it iswith life you have to prepare
yourself so you're ready to walkthrough those doors of
opportunity.
And it's funny because AbrahamLincoln has a quote which I love
a lot of his quotes.
This one I don't agree with.
But he says I will prepare andperhaps my time will come.
The bottom line is your timecomes, whether you're prepared

(12:37):
or not.
The question is, will you beprepared to see it and walk
through the door?

Speaker 1 (12:42):
Yeah, that is so true Because I can't tell you the
amount of times where I've heardstories of opportunities coming
up and somebody's like I can'tpull the trigger on that right
now.
It's like that was a missedopportunity.
And it's like how many of thosedo we go through life of all
these missed opportunities thatwe could have had?

(13:04):
I mean, I hear it all the timeoh, I could have done this and I
could have done that.
And it's like, yeah, you couldhave, but you didn't.
And at some point you have totake that leap and take on a
little bit of risk.
We were talking about that thismorning, about risk, and I
think that goes to the David andGoliath story as well.
As, like, david was willing totake the risk.

(13:26):
He knew what the consequencewas if it didn't go according to
plan, which was death, but hetook the risk.
And, um, I was talking to youthis morning about, you know,
possibly opening up this secondlocation.
It's like it puts us out of acomfort and it's definitely a
risk, because right now we cansustain the current location

(13:47):
with just crystal working if weneeded to, but opening up
another location puts us outsideof this comfort of like, hey,
it's comfortable, things aregood.
Sometimes you have to take thatstep and step outside of the
comfort, take that risk in orderto have the bigger reward.
And I think you know when youdo take that step, you have to

(14:09):
have faith, and faith that theLord's calling you to.
That Make sure you're in prayerduring this time and just
making sure that you're doingeverything unto him, because at
the end of the day it becomeshis bill if he's in it right.
So it's like now you're justwalking in faith, like Lord.
I don't know how this looks, Idon't know how we're here, how
we got here, but I just keeptaking step after step after

(14:32):
step and I'm just going to keepfollowing you and have faith
that you're going to provide thefinances to keep this thing
going and provide jobs forpeople and allow us to pour into
people through you and use youto pour into people and, you
know, speak your name into theselocations and let it be a place
of like your, your glory.

(14:52):
You know, and that's Crystal, and I's heart is to just keep
spreading his love through eachlocation and that's part of
what's in our mission statement, our vision statement, our core
values is like God's love.
And so, yeah, I guess all thatto say like sometimes you just
have to take risks.

Speaker 2 (15:11):
Yeah, I mean, you know, we talked about today the
quote no risk, no biscuit.

Speaker 1 (15:16):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (15:17):
I think you know, at the end of the day, you know,
you, you grow, this is where yougrow, so you grow, you step out
in faith.
You don't.
At the end of the day, you knowyou grow, this is where you
grow, so you grow, you step outin faith.
You don't see the whole pictureand you're not supposed to see
the whole picture.
Like, god's not going to showyou the whole picture I mean he
could, but I think the reason hedoesn't is because we'll
probably get afraid and we'llturn around.

(15:45):
And a story and I'm going togive you a story in the Bible to
validate this is when Goddelivered his people from Egypt.
There's a small section thatsays there's basically a
shortcut, but they would go bythe Philistines.
Well, the Philistines werepeople of war since they were
kids.
That's why in David he saysyou're a youth and he's been a
man of war since his youth, right, because they trained when
they were little.
So the shortcut would be towalk by there.

(16:08):
But God knew that if he didthat, they would run back.
So he took them a long way.
So sometimes it's the same waywith us, right?
God knows what he's doing.
So what we have to do is do wehave faith, do we believe it and
do we trust him?
And if we do, we'll move ourfeet.

(16:28):
And I think that, no matterwhat happens, even if we're
going in a direction that maybeis not the direction that we're
going to go, at the end of theday, all things work for the
good.
He'll redirect it and thelearning lessons that we learn
on the lesson will help us to beable to be prepared so we're
able to walk through the actualdoor of opportunity that we're
supposed to walk through.

Speaker 1 (16:41):
Yeah, I actually want to touch on this a little bit
even more, because people arelike well, what if I fail?
Great, you learned a lot duringthe failure, Like I've had tons
of businesses that weren'tsuccessful before the salon and
it's like at some point youstart learning things along the
way to where it's like okay, Iknow how to do X, Y and Z now,

(17:02):
and I know how to do A, B and C.
And you start learning allthese different tools through
each failure to be able tofinally put all the pieces
together and be like you knowwhat.
I know how to put all thepieces together now and I know
how to create something that canbe sustainable and be something
great.
And I think until you starttaking the steps, you're never
going to learn the tools thatyou need to be successful.

(17:23):
The only way to learn is to doit.
Yeah, yeah.

Speaker 2 (17:27):
I like it.
I always think of a baby.
You know we have a grandbaby, that's been.
He learned how to walk beforehe was eight months, which was
crazy, and he's just like crazy.
Now he's like climbs up oneverything and when he's here,
our job is just to keep him safe.
I just think to myself likewhen he learned how to walk he
probably fell down a thousandtimes.
I mean, can you imagine if wehad the same thought process

(17:48):
when we were kids as we do now?
We're like, oh, I don't want to, you know, I'm not going to do
it anymore, I'm going to gethurt.
And then you're like 20 yearsold and you're crawling around
everywhere.
It'd be foolish, and I knowit's funny, and like we're like
that would never happen.
Yeah, but at what moment in ourlife did we start listening to
the lies from the enemy?
Because it's a lie from theenemy.

(18:08):
Yeah, like you have to gothrough a preparation process on
everything and during thatprocess we fall and then we get
up and we fall.
That's how we learn.
That's how you learn how to dothe things you got to do.
It's by like repeated over andover and failure over and over
and over again.
So I look at failure as steps.

(18:30):
It's just a step, it's a step.
It's another step, it's a stepand it gets you closer.
It's the developmental processto get you ready.
It's the preparation to get youready for what it is that God
has for you.
But if you never do now, here'sthe deal God's purpose is going
to get done.
So it's going to get done withyou or with somebody else.

(18:51):
But the thing about it is, whynot with you?
So go through the preparation.
If you put it on your heart, who cares what you look like?
Do it, do it.
And if you talk to anyonesuccessful anyone successful
they're going to tell you.
You know how many times they've.
I mean, you know the story ofJK Rowling.
Come on, like how many peopletold her her stuff was no good?

(19:15):
She'll never make it.
Like how many.
And you know what's her networth now.
Like.
You know what I mean.
So persevere, persevere.

Speaker 1 (19:26):
And that's why I think when God said man,
precious possession ispersevering, persevere through
it all, and I think we alwayshave to be in a constant state
of learning.
I think the moment we stoplearning is the moment your
dreams and everything dies.
I think the moment you get to,I know it all you've already

(19:46):
lost, Because I think no oneknows everything.
I mean Elon, as much as heknows he's got people working
that are very smart for him.
He couldn't do it without them.

Speaker 2 (20:02):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (20:03):
So it's like just staying in that constant state
of like great I, I yeah I mayhave failed at this, this
attempt.
I mean again, how many rocketshas he sent up that failed
before they started beingsuccessful?

Speaker 2 (20:16):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (20:17):
It's like you have to keep at it and while you're at
it, keep learning and not againgo back to the sob story of like
oh poor me, it didn't work out, like no?
Get back up and go at it again.

Speaker 2 (20:29):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (20:30):
Another thing that I was kind of and I kind of talked
to Crystal about this a littlebit this week was do you think
God put it in some people tojust enjoy working and I'm kind
of speaking on myself as wellLike I find myself to just enjoy

(20:52):
working, Like it's not like Ilook forward to the weekend to
be off for the weekend.
It's like I honestly look moreforward to monday to just get
back to work and like to thegrind of things.
But it I know not everyone'swired that way and so sometimes
it can kind of feel like and isthere something wrong with me?
Like I, like I literally justenjoy doing what I'm getting or

(21:16):
able to do.
Yeah, so it was kind of aconversation that we had and I
kind of wanted to get your takeon this and kind of see what you
thought about this, Cause Iknow, you, know you, you enjoy
work too and, um, I don't know, just kind of bring that up and
see where you're at.

Speaker 2 (21:33):
Yeah.
So it's a good question, um,and I I mean I wish I could tell
you that this is for sure theanswer.
But I look at it like this Ibelieve work is a God thing.
I think you know it's in us andit's good.
Work is good and I think that'swhy you know, when God gave us
a seven day rest, even thoughit's a picture of Christ, it's

(21:54):
still, it's a day to rest.
Well, if it rests, from what?
Six days of work, right?
So I think it's a thing.
But I think what happens iswe're in a culture, especially
Western culture, where we work,we work, we work where most
people are employees.
You weren't like biblically, you go into the New Testament,

(22:14):
you don't really aren't going toread anything about employees.
Really, the two types ofemployees back then were
soldiers and slaves, likeeveryone was in the marketplace,
right, building something.
So I think, yes, if you're, ifyou're working, if you're an
employee, I think it's justnature, after time you're going
to get like kind of burnt out ofit.
So I don't, I don't say it'smore of a work thing, I think

(22:34):
it's more of a, you know, thethe avenue that they're in.
It's kind of snuffing what, what God put in them.
I'm going to just say thatthat's what I would think.
I think if they were, you know, one day, if they catch a vision
, god put something in theirheart.
They act on it.
I think the work would bedifferent and they would be okay
with working that hard to beable to accomplish it.

Speaker 1 (22:57):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (22:57):
So I think more it's less about.
I would guess that it would beless about the work thing and
it'd be more about what avenueor what arena are they doing the
work?
But I think that work is it,work is a.

Speaker 1 (23:10):
It's a god thing yeah and because it's a god thing,
it's a good thing yeah andthat's kind of something she had
brought up too is like he doescall us to rest and like even
jesus had a period of rest, butfor me it just feels like I'm
able to work until I'm tired andthen I'll take my rest and then
keep working.
Yeah, um, there's days wheremaybe I can work 18 hours and

(23:32):
maybe there's another day wheremy brain's fried after six hours
, like yeah I just to me andI've always struggled with the
employee side of of like, themindset of like going to work
nine to five, like I.
I've never truly understoodthat because I feel like maybe
one day you can work 18 hours, maybe another day you can only

(23:53):
work six, another day.
So it's like maybe you havethese employees that can only
work six hours that day and thentheir brains fried, what are
they doing the other two hours?
They're not even beingproductive.

Speaker 2 (24:05):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (24:06):
Whereas there's other days.
So I think and I think it wasin a podcast that I had listened
to um, where this whole fiveday work week was like only a
thing, like a hundred years ago.

Speaker 2 (24:17):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (24:17):
Up until then, and there there was no such thing as
, like the five day work week.

Speaker 2 (24:21):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (24:21):
It was seven days a week, and so, yeah, it's just
something that I've kind of beenlike thinking about, pondering
on, just like man.
Is there something that I'mmissing here?

Speaker 2 (24:32):
But, um, no, I think yeah, I don't think so and I
would even look at it.
You know even more than workwhere you know you're working to
build something.
You know what I mean and that's, you know, being made in the
image of God.
God's a builder, so ourfather's a builder, which means
his children are going to bebuilders.
Intentionally.

(24:53):
We're supposed to be buildersand I believe it's in everyone.
Some people might be a littlefurther down, but it's there and
I think it's a thing.
So, when you're in how you werecreated, I think it's not going
to bother you as much to worklong hours and do the things you
need to do, because it's partof your DNA, because it's part

(25:14):
of the father's DNA.
He's a builder and he made menin his image.

Speaker 1 (25:20):
And then another thing that I have written down
here is just talking aboutplanning.
I think so many times peopleare just winging life.
I'm just going to wing it andit's like, no, you've got to
have some type of goal.
You have to have some type ofplan that you're working towards
, because you need to put thingsin place to work towards that
goal.
Like, okay, you have this biggoal, what little steps can you

(25:43):
take to get to this big goal?
Right, and I the amount oftimes that I've talked to people
and they're like, oh, I want todo this.
I'm like, okay, great, what'swhat's your plan?
Oh, I don't know yet.
Okay, so this is really nothingat this point because it's just

(26:03):
an idea.
Like, ideas are diamond in adozen.
Everyone has them, but who'sactually going to?
You know, put in the work andplan to work towards those?
So, um, yeah, I just want tobring up planning too, cause I
think it's so important and it'sbeen a thing that I've had
multiple conversations withpeople and I just wish people

(26:28):
would eventually understand, like, in order to start working
towards those goals that youdream of, like you have to have
a plan in place.
And then, once the plan is inplace, it goes back to what we
talked about earlier is you haveto start taking the steps?

Speaker 2 (26:41):
Yeah, I mean, I agree 100%.
To me it's like driving to adestination and not having GPS.
Who would do that?
Nobody would do that Nobody.
I went golfing in La Quintayesterday.
I know where La Quinta is, butI've never been to the golf
course.
So what am I going to justdrive there and like stop at
every gas station?
Point me been to the golfcourse, so what am I going to

(27:01):
just drive there and like stopat every gas station?
Point me, I'm not going to dothat.
And even if I did, I would getthere way, way later than what I
would have if I just would havehad a plan.
So I think plans the same way.
Right, you have to have a plan, got to have a plan, you got to
have a good plan and you need totrack and measure the plan and
pivot and make adjustments.
So you got to be able to be goodat those things.
I'm not saying that you can'twing it and get there, but I'm

(27:24):
saying why would you wing it andget there?
And even if you got there, it'sgoing to be like so, so much
farther, you know it happens somuch later.
But have a plan.
If you're like, well, I don'tknow how to do it, I've never
had one Well, find somebodythat's good at it and have them
help you.
But have a plan, follow theplan, stick to it, make the

(27:46):
necessary adjustments.
But you know, you know what.
What do they say?
People, don't you know?
Plan to fail, they fail to plan.

Speaker 1 (27:55):
So yeah, for sure that that's kind of what's been
on my heart this week.
I wanted to see if there'sanything that kind of popped up
during your week.
Is there anything that kind ofpopped in your head?
What's been going on in yourworld?

Speaker 2 (28:06):
yeah, you know the the only thing I'll just share.
You know one piece which isinteresting, so you know it's
interesting.
Like I love the golf, I love toget out there and I wish I
would have learned when I wasyounger.
Obviously I wish I was betterand I love to play.
I'm very competitive, it was mynumber one trait, so I love
that and just being able to tryto do better.

(28:27):
Whatever I got in the last tour.
I want to do better, but it'sso interesting.
I never learned.
I never knew this when I wasyounger.
But man, golf is so much likelife it really is.
You have a course that somebodycreated, so they created this
course to be played by certainrules.
It's literally exactly likewhat the Lord did, like you have

(28:49):
a creator that created a courseand rules within the course
that were all to play and it'sfunny as you navigate it.
Some do better at it, some doworse.
But one thing I do want tobring up on this piece is it's
funny as you navigate it.
Some do better at it, some doworse.
But one thing I do want to bringup on this piece is it's funny
because sometimes what willhappen is, if you've ever golfed
, you know what I'm talkingabout.
So like you're driving yourball hook left and you know

(29:12):
you've got a 100-yard-widefairway and you full-on missed
it.
And you're like, left, you'rebehind, behind a tree, and then
there's another tree and thishappened to me once yesterday
where there's a tree here,there's a tree here, and I'm
like you know, I think there's agap.
You know, and we all do that,we're like, hey, I think I think
I see a window.

(29:32):
Wait, let me get this straight.
I just missed a hundred yardfairway, I missed a whole thing,
but I I think I can make it inthis gap, and we do that.
And then what happens is we hita branch, we hit another branch
, we hit a branch, and what I'velearned what I've learned is
with golf, as in life is whenyou find yourself in trouble,

(29:54):
just get back in the fairway.
Get back in the fairway right, eat the shot You've learned your
lesson and then go from there.
But what I think what happensis, instead of doing that, we
just keep hacking and keephacking and keep having, and
then we wonder why our score isso high.
Just get back in the fairwayand then start over.

Speaker 1 (30:15):
Yeah, I'm laughing because I know exactly what
you're talking about.
But yeah, I love it Again.
I just appreciate theseconversations.
I honestly look forward tothese every Thursday now.
So, I'm like coming with somenotes and things I've thought
about during the week and it'sjust a lot of fun.
So, I appreciate it.
I appreciate the time of justyou taking out of your day to

(30:37):
come on here and look forward tonext week.

Speaker 2 (30:41):
Yeah, that's fine to next week.

Speaker 1 (30:43):
Yeah, that's fine, until next week.
I'm Dylan, I'm Martin, andwe'll see you then.
