Speaker 1 (01:04):
Welcome back.
We are on podcast episode nine.
We've been digging in deep tothe book Power of the
Subconscious Mind by JosephMurphy.
We started with this bookbecause the key principle of our
subconscious mind, which isthat piece of God, divine,
(01:25):
higher power that sits within us, that operates our whole body,
our eyes can see, we can hearour heart beats, we breathe, our
eyes blink automatically, allthe systems in our body are
somehow doing their magical work.
(01:47):
Our kidneys are operating, ourheart is operating, our liver,
all these things are magicallyoccurring and there is that
power that exists right withinus and that's why they call it
the power of the subconsciousmind.
We left off last time talkingabout heterosuggestion, and what
heterosuggestion means is whensomeone from the outside meaning
(02:12):
someone outside of us, so maybea friend, a family member, a
teacher, a boss, anyone outsideof us offers up a suggestion.
If we allow it in withoutquestioning it, it has and can
have a whole lot of power.
So we really want to start tobecome aware of what are people
(02:33):
outside saying and, mostimportantly, who am I going to
to get advice and guidance andfeedback?
Because if I go and ask thewrong person for feedback,
advice and guidance, well, I'mgoing to get an answer, but it
might not be a very good answer.
The problem is, if I don'tblock that out, the subconscious
(02:54):
mind will accept that advice asbeing true.
What do I mean?
I go to someone forrelationship advice.
That person is struggling intheir own marriage and having
all kinds of issues, and theystart giving me advice and
telling me what I should do, andthat goes into my subconscious
mind if I don't block it out.
(03:15):
Well, that advice coming fromsomeone who's already struggling
in their own marriage probablywouldn't be the best advice to
listen to.
Therefore, again, what I wouldwant to do is I'd want to really
pay attention to whatsuggestions am I allowing in
from the outside?
In Now, the key is awareness.
We've used that word many timesand what I'm going to tell you
(03:36):
is that word is super powerful.
It's super important for us tobe focused on awareness.
I am aware of what's happeningoutside of me.
I am aware of what I'm tuninginto.
Remember, heterosuggestion notonly means a friend, a family
member, but it could mean thetelevision, it could mean radio,
it could mean a TV show that wewatch, because if we keep
(03:59):
hearing a message over and overfrom the outside world.
It is programming oursubconscious minds if we don't
block it out.
So if you're listening to thenews and they're constantly
talking about the Republicans orthe Democrats, it will cause
you to form an opinion which maynot necessarily be true,
(04:20):
because you're hearing the samemessage over and over and over
again.
Okay, so that's why we'restudying this book.
That's why our subconsciousmind is so powerful, because it
will accept from us or fromothers, suggestions and it will
act on those suggestions andgive us more of the same and
(04:49):
over again that I'm not goodenough, or I'm not smart enough,
or I can't do that.
Then, no matter what I go to doin life, that same suggestion
will be repeated by thesubconscious mind.
In other words, I go to startthat business and then the
thought comes up I can't do this.
The reason it's coming up isbecause that's what we've been
programmed to believe, but thebelief is false.
The problem is, we've neverquestioned that belief.
(05:09):
Now, I know that we've beenprogrammed to believe, but the
belief is false.
The problem is, we've neverquestioned that belief.
Now, I know that we've repeatedthis information and we will
repeat it over and over, but whydo you think we're repeating
this information over and overBecause it's the repetition that
gets into our subconscious mindand we want this message to get
in over and over so that whenyou're out there and you're
(05:31):
dealing with people and you'redealing with your own thoughts
that are coming up, thosebeliefs that are negative,
you'll have heard this messageso many times that instantly
you'll say wait a second, I'maware that this is a negative
belief coming up.
Is this belief true?
Let me question this Is thatreally true?
Am I really not good enough?
(05:52):
Where are times in my lifewhere I've proven that I'm more
than good enough and we questionit and ultimately we show that
it has no credibility and weflip the script and instead we
say you know what?
I am smart and here's proof.
Or I am good enough and here'sproof.
Or I am good enough and here'sproof.
I did this that time and thatreally led me to having success.
(06:14):
And we prove to ourselves thatthese limiting beliefs aren't
true.
And when we do that enough andwe become aware enough and we
act on the awareness byquestioning those beliefs, guess
what ends up happening?
Those beliefs lose their power.
They lose power in thesubconscious mind and we replant
in our subconscious mind whatwe want, and that is the thing
(06:35):
that ends up having so muchpower, and it takes us to a
completely different place, because now we're focused on
completely different suggestions.
Wow, I feel like that was awhole lot that in and of itself.
Wow, I feel like that was awhole lot that in and of itself.
You could just repeat what Ijust said over the last six
minutes.
You could play that over andover and over again for maybe 10
(06:56):
, 15, 20 times until you reallyget it, and that would be really
powerful to listen to over andover again.
So, that said, we're coming tokind of the close of chapter two
and we're going to continue onwith heterosuggestion and
suggestion.
Again, heterosuggestion comingfrom someone else outside of us
(07:18):
or something outside of us, andregular suggestion coming from
within my own thoughts, my ownbeliefs Great.
So we're going to go back tothe book now we're on page 32,
and we're going to be talkingabout suggestion and it says
suggestion may be used todiscipline and control ourselves
(07:39):
.
So what do you think that itmeans when it says suggestion
may be used to discipline andcontrol ourselves?
I've worked with a lot ofclients and a lot of them will
say to me I just don't have thediscipline to do the calls.
I just don't have thediscipline to follow up as much
(08:02):
as I should be following up.
Now, isn't what they just saidto me a suggestion?
A suggestion.
I just don't have thediscipline.
They say that it goes intotheir subconscious mind over and
over.
And what do they believe movingforward?
(08:22):
They don't have the disciplineto do the thing they need to do.
They don't have the disciplineto make the calls.
They don't have the disciplineto do the thing they need to do.
They don't have the disciplineto make the calls.
They don't have the disciplineto follow up.
Now, if they keep saying thatto themselves, what do you think
the chances are that they willactually make the calls and
follow up?
Well, I can tell you none.
And that's the proof in thissentence right here, which says
(08:45):
suggestion may be used todiscipline and control ourselves
.
So if we know that thatstatement isn't going to work
example that same client istalking to me.
I hear them say I just don'thave the discipline.
And I say to them I hear whatyou're saying.
Now what you're doing is you'replanting a seed in your
(09:06):
subconscious mind.
So now you have a choice youcan continue to plant that seed
or you can plant something elseinstead.
I said what would you choose toplant instead, if you know that
the seed that you're plantingwill grow, what do you want to
plant?
And then they'll say somethinglike I become more disciplined
every moment of the day.
(09:27):
I become more disciplined withmaking the calls.
I become more disciplined doingthe follow-up.
I am a disciplined person.
Now I've heard my clients tellme this many, many times, which
is but Mike, that's not true.
(09:48):
I am not disciplined right now.
And I always say to them thiswell, you must become
disciplined in your mind firstbefore it's going to show up on
the outside.
So I have to be telling myselfon the inside that I am this
type of person.
For it to show up, I must say Iam disciplined.
(10:11):
In order for me to ultimatelybecome disciplined, because I
know, if I do what the clientwas originally doing by saying I
am not disciplined in myapproach, I am not disciplined
in making the calls, well, that's going to be continued to
be a reality in their life.
How do I know it?
Because they've been doing itfor months, years and it's
(10:31):
literally taken over their lifeand, ultimately, their results.
So we can't continue to do whatwe've always done or we'll
continue to get the results thatwe've always gotten.
So we must shift and we mustbecome aware of the words that
are coming out of our mouth andask ourselves if I was talking
(10:51):
to a genie and I was telling thegenie what I want in my life,
would I be saying I am not adisciplined person?
No, we would say to the genie Iam disciplined.
And the genie says your wish ismy command, I will give you
more of being disciplined.
(11:12):
It sounds simplistic in theory, but it works.
And again, you've been using itthis way, in the negative, all
this time.
So we're just flipping thescript and we're using it as a
tool to help us get what we want.
Let's go back to the book.
But it can also be used to takecontrol and command over others
(11:36):
who do not know the laws of themind.
In its constructive form, it'sa wonderful and magnificent.
In its negative aspects, it'sone of the most destructive of
(12:24):
all response patterns of themind, resulting in patterns of
misery, failure, suffering,sickness and disaster.
Let's continue on here Now, asI go through what I'm about to
read here.
Ask yourselves have you heardthis and how have you responded
to it in the past?
Back to the book.
From infancy, the majority of ushave been given many negative
(12:49):
suggestions.
Again, we're going to askourselves have we been given
these suggestions before?
Not knowing how to deal withthem, we unconsciously accept
them.
Let me pause here.
This is awareness, and this iswhere awareness comes in.
Up until this point, unconsciously, we were accepting
(13:13):
things that were being said.
We were accepting the socialmedia scroll and what we were
reading.
We were accepting thetelevision news report that they
were telling us.
However, what we're going to dois we're going to start getting
conscious of what we're doing.
We're going to start becomingaware of what we're going to do,
(13:34):
and then that will give us morecontrol and more power in our
own lives.
Okay, so let's go back to thebook.
Here are some of the negativesuggestions that you might have
heard.
Ready, ask yourself if you'veheard this from other people or
the news or any source outsideof us.
You can't.
You'll never amount to anything.
(13:55):
You must not do that.
You'll fail.
You haven't got a chance.
You're all wrong.
It's no use.
It's not what you know, but whoyou know the world is going to
the dogs.
What's the use?
Nobody cares.
It's no use trying so hard.
You're too old to do that.
(14:15):
Things are getting worse andworse.
Life is an endless grind.
Love is for the birds.
You can't win.
Pretty soon you'll be bankrupt.
Watch out, you'll get thatvirus.
Now I want you to ask yourselfhave you heard suggestions like
this before?
The next question is when youheard them, did you accept it?
(14:39):
Did you reject it?
Did you accept it and allow itto come into your subconscious
mind?
If you did accept it and if itdid come into your subconscious
mind, if you did accept it andif it did come into your
subconscious mind, what's theproblem with that?
What's the cause that couldpotentially happen by allowing
those seeds to come in?
(15:01):
These are all statements thatwe've heard many times in our
life, and we have a choice now,and the choice is when someone
says something like things aregetting worse and worse, we say
to ourselves no, I'm calling BSon that.
That is not true.
It is not getting worse andworse.
(15:21):
Things are going to get betterand better, because I'm going to
take control and I'm going totake a step in a direction of
improving this situation.
But if I don't do that and if Iaccept what that person said,
which is things are gettingworse and worse, and I say you
know, it's so true, things arereally getting worse.
Every time I go to something,it just seems to not work out.
(15:44):
If I follow that path, I'mguaranteed to get more of the
same.
So if that's true, and we knowit to be true and we become
aware of it, then we want toswitch it and say no, things are
getting better and better.
Things become easily andeffortless for me.
The perfect people come into mylife and guide me and support
(16:06):
me.
I tap into the power inside ofmyself and I use that power to
help me get everything that Iwant in life.
If we do that, if we focus onwhat the power is inside of us
and reject that outsidenegativity that's coming in,
what does your life look like?
How much better is it for doingthat?
(16:26):
It's powerful stuff and thebeauty is we have complete
control over it.
Let's continue back to the book.
Unless, as an adult, you useconstructive auto-suggestion,
which is a reconditioningtherapy, the impressions made on
(16:47):
you in the past can causebehavior patterns that cause
failure in your personal andsocial life.
So unless we start torecondition all these things
that came in from the outside, then what's going to happen is
and what has happened is.
It caused behavior patterns, itcaused beliefs in us and those
(17:10):
beliefs are in control of ourbehavior.
If we don't start working onthis process of reconditioning
and we'll get into how thisworks in a bit but if we don't
start reconditioning and beingaware and paying attention, what
do you think the chances of ourlife changing will be?
You think we'll continue to dothe same behavior patterns over
(17:36):
and over?
How many of you out there knowwhat you should be doing but
aren't necessarily doing whatyou know you should be doing?
There's only one reason whyyou're not doing what you know
you should be doing, and it'sbecause we've gotten conditioned
from the outside world, alimiting belief which sits in
our subconscious mind, which isnow dictating everything as we
(17:58):
move forward.
No problem, we're aware ofwhat's going on.
So now what we do is we figureout what that limiting belief is
and we start reconditioning itand again, we're going to get
into that as we move forward.
Okay, so let's go back to thebook.
Auto-suggestion is a means forreleasing from the mass of
negative verbal conditioningthat might otherwise distort
(18:20):
your life pattern, making thedevelopment of good habits
difficult.
You can counteract negativesuggestions.
Counteract negative suggestions.
So again, someone's going tocome to us and say to us a
negative thing.
If we go back a coupleparagraphs for that list of all
those negative statements thatwere being made, someone comes
(18:40):
to us and says those things.
So then what do we do?
So it says we can counteract it.
Let's go back to the book, pickup the paper any day and you'll
read dozens of items that couldsow the seeds of futility, fear
, worry, anxiety and impendingdoom.
If accepted by you, thesethoughts of fear could cause you
(19:02):
to lose the will for life.
Knowing that you can reject allof these negative suggestions
by giving your subconscious mindconstructive auto suggestions,
you counteract all of thesedestructive ideas.
Awareness let's take a pause anddiscuss this for a second.
Awareness we're just becomingmore and more aware of what are
(19:25):
people saying to us and what amI saying to myself.
What are people saying to usand what am I saying to myself?
What are people saying to usand what am I saying to myself?
Aware of it?
We don't necessarily have tochange it yet we're becoming
aware of what's happening to uson a consistent basis, and that
awareness is going to help ussee first what we're actually
doing and then make changes.
(19:47):
Okay, let's go back to the bookhere doing and then make
changes.
Okay, let's go back to the bookhere.
Check regularly on the negativesuggestions that people make to
you.
You do not have to beinfluenced by destructive hetero
suggestion.
All of us have suffered from itin childhood and our teens.
If you look back, you caneasily recall how parents,
(20:08):
friends, relatives, teachers andassociates contributed in a
campaign of negative suggestions.
Study the things said to youand you will discover much of it
was in the form of propaganda.
The purpose of much of what wassaid was to control you or
instill fear into you.
Let's discuss the propagandathat we're talking about here.
(20:32):
How about going back in the dayand looking at the
advertisements for cigarettes?
Now, they were very well awareof the fact that cigarettes
would cause damage and that theywere not good for us, that they
could cause all kinds of issueswith our health.
However, what did they do?
They had television commercialswhere someone was pulling up
(20:55):
and they're smoking cigarettesand they look really cool and
it's a really popular in thingto do.
Well again, if we accept thatto be the truth and we don't
question is that really good tobe smoking?
Is that something that I shoulddo?
Am I going to just take andlisten to the propaganda that's
(21:16):
coming from the television, oram I going to go out and
question is this reallysomething good?
Maybe I should go and talk to adoctor, someone that
specializes in lungs, and askthem would it be a good idea for
me to smoke?
Would that be a good thing forme to do?
And then listen to that personwho has specialized knowledge,
tell you the reasons why itwouldn't be a good idea.
(21:38):
And then potentially not listento the propaganda from
television.
But remember, when we'rewatching television, there's
marketing professionals, andthese marketing professionals
are paid millions of dollars tosell product.
Therefore, when you watch andI'm sure you're all well aware
of this one how many times doyou turn on the television?
(22:01):
And there's a pharmaceutical adon TV?
On TV, they're talking aboutsome kind of pill that is kind
of magically make you feelbetter.
The amazing thing is we stilllisten to some of that right, we
still listen to it and allow itin.
However, if you listen to thevery end of those commercials.
They list 50 to a hundred waysthat that same medication that
(22:25):
you're going to be taking cancause damage to your body.
But they speed it up reallyfast and they put in a lower
volume so you can barely hear it, so that, ultimately, what
you're really hearing is thesuggestions that you're making
that if you take this pill, youare going to feel better.
So go ask your doctor about itso that he can give it to you.
(22:46):
And that's again propaganda.
That's what we're talking abouthere.
Do we listen to what others areselling us or do we question it
?
And again, unless they havespecialized knowledge they're an
expert in that specific areathen we shouldn't be taking
their word.
We should be questioningeverything.
In fact, then we should go findsomeone who has specialized
(23:09):
knowledge and ask that personbefore we allow that suggestion
to take over and control ourbehavior as we move forward.
Is that making sense to you?
Are you seeing how, in your ownlife, you've done this?
And this isn't good or bad.
This isn't making a good or badperson.
It's about becoming aware ofinformation and becoming aware
(23:30):
of how this information can helpus become a better person, to
become a stronger person, tobecome a more grateful person,
to become a person that becomesstronger and in more control of
our own life and our own process.
So let's go back to the book.
This heterosuggestion processgoes on in every home, office,
(23:51):
factory and club.
You will find that many ofthese suggestions are for the
purpose of making you think, feel and act as others want you
to and in ways that are to theiradvantage.
Let's pause for a second.
Let's talk about school.
When we were younger, how manyof you heard this from one of
(24:14):
your teachers Pay attention,stop daydreaming.
Now, what if, in becoming anentrepreneur, daydreaming from
time to time would be a greatthing, but the teacher didn't
tell us that.
The teacher told us stopdaydreaming from time to time
would be a great thing, but theteacher didn't tell us that.
The teacher told us stopdaydreaming and pay attention,
otherwise you're going to getpunished.
(24:34):
I'll give you a detention.
I'm going to talk to yourparents.
And so we got afraid to daydream.
Why?
Because, again, this was asuggestion that was given to us,
because the teacher wanted tocontrol us.
They wanted us to behave acertain way.
It wasn't necessarily in ourown best interest.
What if the teacher would havesaid instead Michael listen, I
(24:58):
know that you might be thinkingabout something else right now,
and there is a real power indoing that.
To be able to sit and think anddaydream and come up with ideas
and dream about differentthings that you can create in
your life.
That's a beautiful thing.
However, when we're in classright now, I just want you to
stay focused, because beingfocused, that will allow you to
(25:19):
understand some of the thingsthat I'm telling you for class.
Now, if they suggested it to uslike that, wouldn't we have
learned a very different messagethere?
We would have learned thatdaydreaming is a good thing.
It's just there's time andplace to do that daydreaming, as
opposed to being terrified todaydream because if I'm not
paying attention, then she'sgoing to fail me, I'm going to
(25:41):
get a detention or my parentsare going to be contacted.
So do you see how this works?
All right, let's go back to thebook how suggestion killed a
man.
So now they're going to give usan illustration of
heterosuggestion.
Here is an illustration ofheterosuggestion.
A relative of mine went to acrystal gazer in India who told
(26:06):
him that he had a bad heart andpredicted that he would die at
the next new moon.
He began to tell all themembers of his family about the
prediction and he arranged hiswill.
This powerful suggestionentered into his subconscious
mind because he accepted itcompletely.
Pause for a second.
(26:27):
Because he accepted itcompletely, he didn't have to
listen to this suggestion at all.
This wasn't a doctor, it was apalm reader that he went to.
Let's go back to the book.
But because he accepted itcompletely, my relative also
told me.
My relative also told me thatthis crystal gazer was believed
(26:54):
to have some strange occultpowers and he could do harm or
good to a person.
He died as predicted, notknowing that he was the cause of
his own death.
I suppose many of us have heardsimilar stupid, ridiculous,
superstitious stories.
Stupid, ridiculous, supersuperstitious stories.
Let us look at one thathappened in light of our
knowledge of the way of thesubconscious mind works.
(27:14):
Whatever the consciousreasoning mind of man believes,
the subconscious mind willaccept and act on.
My relative was happy, healthy, vigorous and robust when he
went to see the fortune teller.
She gave him a very negativesuggestion which he accepted.
He became terrified andconstantly dwelt upon the fact
(27:38):
that he was going to die at thenext new moon.
He proceeded to tell everyoneabout it and he prepared for the
end.
The activity took place in hisown mind, and his own thought
was the cause.
He brought about his ownso-called death, or rather
destruction of his physical body, by his fear and expectation of
the end.
(27:59):
I'm just wondering what yourthoughts are on this.
Do you think it's possible thatif someone tells you something
like that, you go see a palmreader or fortune teller and
they tell you that you're goingto die?
There's something wrong withyou?
If you truly believe that inyour heart of hearts and you
start telling people and youstart preparing your will and
(28:20):
you start really believing thatit's going to happen, do you
think it could potentiallyhappen?
And I believe from the bottomof my heart the answer is yes,
that it can.
That's the power of oursubconscious mind.
So we want to be very aware ofwhat we're going to allow in and
what we're not going to allowin.
The best thing that could havehappened as soon as that fortune
(28:41):
teller would have saidsomething negative just get up
and leave and then go see adoctor if you need to and ask
the doctor.
Hey, doc, I went to a fortuneteller.
They told me this.
I'm rejecting it, but I justwant to make sure all is well,
and then the doctor will tellyou yeah, everything looks great
.
And then that's the end of that.
That's the person that hasspecialized knowledge.
(29:01):
I'm not saying that therearen't fortune tellers out there
.
That may be right, but we havethe choice of whether we're
going to believe and allowwhatever they say in to affect
us.
So I want to pause here and Iwant to just end with this.
(29:23):
From today until the next timeyou hear this, which will be
next week, what I would love youto do is practice being aware
of two things Be aware of whatother people are saying to you
and be aware of what you'resaying to yourself.
And when you realize you'resaying something negative, or
when you realize someone else issaying something negative, ask
yourself is that something thatI really want to allow in to my
(29:44):
subconscious mind?
And if it's not, block it.
And if you need to see someonethat has specialized knowledge
to get some feedback from them, then ask them and get that
feedback that you need.
We have the power to accept andreject.
Unfortunately, most people inlife don't use this power, but
we're learning that we have thispower and that we can use it,
(30:07):
and it can help us control thepower of the subconscious mind.
That said, I want you to havean amazing week this week and I
wish you nothing but success.
Make sure to reach out to us ifyou have any questions,
comments or feedback.
We'd love to hear it.
We'd love to put it into place.
We want to make this better andbetter for you.
We want to make sure thatyou're happy with the content.
(30:27):
Have a wonderful day and
