What's going on everyone? Happy New Year's. Thank you for tuning in. This is the Healing

(00:19):
Club podcast episode 10. New Year's type shit. I'm glad everyone can tune in. We had a decent
Christmas. Hopefully everyone else did too. And we also got a special guest for you this
New Year's. Another Detroit native from the same neck of the woods as Luke the Greatest

(00:39):
I believe. I'm going to go ahead and turn it over to him. Go ahead and introduce our
fella. What up y'all? This is Luke the Greatest as you know. The only one. Introduce him,
my boy from the same city as me. Detroit. You feel me? My boy T. Say what up, cuz. What
up, dude? It's a boy T from Detroit, you know, as you just said. I'm happy to be here, man.

(01:03):
Appreciate y'all. Appreciate you coming. Yes, sir. Appreciate you being here too, man. Hopefully
you got some good things to talk to us about because we are going to head deep into resolution
and reflection. It's only right. It is New Year's. So he's actively in the service right
now too. So, you know. Yeah, my boy about to deploy. Definitely. That's what I'm hoping

(01:24):
our prayers and all of that. Make sure you get home safe. So, definitely, you know, if
you watching this, put my boy T in your prayers. We want to get home safe. Yes, sir. Show love.
We all here to show love anyway, you know what I'm saying? So, we're going to go ahead
and get into resolution and reflection. But before we do that, I want to reach out to
the ones that are out there going through some deep pain, going through some hurt, don't

(01:48):
know who to talk to, you know. There is a hotline out there. The suicide awareness hotline
is not wrong to reach out to them. It never is, you know. If you're going through that
kind of pain, it's unbearable. You got to talk about it. And I know it's hard to talk
about it with some people. So, there is a hotline out there. It's professional help,

(02:10):
988. That's the hotline. You can call or text that number. So, reach out to them, you know.
That professional help, everyone needs it. Yes, sir. Like I always say, it's all confidential.
You don't have to worry about nobody being in your business, you know, knowing your secrets
or whatever. So, reach out to some professionals to get you right mentally, you know. We're

(02:32):
going to get you back together and put you back on the road.
Yes, sir. Yes, sir. Or if you don't want to reach out to them, you know, we are the Healing
Club podcast. You can reach out to us. We are more than happy to talk to you all, honestly,
but we went through our fair share hurt, too. So, you know. Sometimes I wish I could have

(02:56):
talked to somebody about it, but here we are now. You know, we're strong. We persevere.
We're humans. We learn from things. So, if you just need that little help, we are right
here for you. So, with that being said, we're going to go ahead into resolution and reflection.
So, with New Year's resolutions, it often involves personal growth and focusing on mental

(03:20):
health. You know, it's an essential aspect of self-improvement.
Key point is to think about, you know, when you're making your New Year's resolution.
First one I'd say is, I know it's kind of odd, you know, but I feel like we don't see
much of it in today's society. Practicing a little bit of gratitude, you know. Like,

(03:42):
regularly reflecting on things that you're thankful for. You know, it can improve your
mood and overall outlook on life. You know, just be thankful for what you got, you know.
Absolutely, bro. Just being grateful, bro. It makes a difference in your life, man. You're
thankful for what you got. You know what I'm saying?
It really does. Sometimes you just got to appreciate them. Everything's got to be a

(04:05):
big win. Take it with a little win by a little win at a time. And it ain't no long way for
real. For sure, man. Like, especially when we was
on the boat, man. I'd take any little win I could get, bro.
Oh, God, bro. It makes you mentally stronger. So when you go to that stuff, you'll be like,

(04:26):
man, so a little bit, come on, like, I appreciate this, you know what I mean? Like, this is
what I needed. It boosts my spirit up, you know what I mean? So, when you go a long way,
they go a long way. Definitely, bro. And, you know, stay humble,
bro. You know, a lot of things I see with the generation is, you know, let's say I got

(04:51):
something small, but this other dude got something big, you know what I'm saying? Just keep doing
what you're doing, bro. Stay humble. You're going to get there, bro. You know what I'm
saying? Don't try to rush nothing, jump into nothing. Stay humble. Progress is progress.
Remember that. Yeah.
Be humble. Have a goal, you know? So back then, bro, like when I first came to San Diego,

(05:14):
I don't know if you remember, I was kind of big back then, bro. I was 230, 40 pounds.
I was a big old, I was husky. I was a husky ass nigga for sure, bro. And I ain't want
that, you know, I ain't trying to be like that. So I was actually kind of grateful that we

(05:36):
was on the boat. I could focus on me like in a month, bro. I lost 30 pounds. Like I've
slimmed the fuck down, dog.
Oh God. That boy Sean went from being chunky to being like a troll in the hallway, boy.
He was different. He was different after that book for sure.
Dog. And if I had a great workout, bro, I was grateful for that, bro, because that shit

(06:00):
literally is a win for me, bro. Like you said, I was grateful for that. It was a win for
me. I had a good workout, gained some muscle, looked better type shit, you know. That was
a win for me. You know, I appreciate the little things in life like that, you know, having
a great workout. If we had a great meal and that shit was cooked, like no mushy ass rice
and no hard ass rice. If it was perfect, I appreciate when they cook the rice perfectly,

(06:25):
man, cause they don't often do that.
Oh God. You might go eat, get some rice and then my tip was poof, bro.
Hey yo.
Like they serve it out the back.
Nah, it was really like that. So I appreciated perfectly cooked rice and chicken.
What's up, man? My boy T about to go on deployment. You know what I'm saying? He gonna come back

(06:49):
different. Cause he gonna be on the boat. It's his fleet. It's gonna be other people,
but it's gonna be him by himself. You know what I'm saying? I'm expecting you to come
back different.
I'm already going to go in there and get into my routine. You get in that routine and get
to going, workout, gym, eat a little better, get my mental right before I come back. You

(07:15):
know I've been going through stuff before I'm about to take off. So from there, just perfect
that. You know, I ain't trying to go from here to here. I'm trying to go from here,
here, here, here, here and make a big difference. That's what be wrong with people nowadays.
They trying to go from here to here. Nah, you can't. You don't have to like that. That's

(07:40):
like the lottery. Like people that won't be playing like you start broke. People looking
for that instant jump and now you in a different club. Nah, I'm taking step by step by step.
Maybe I've been telling people that all the time. I'm even going down to this car store,
bro. Like start at the SST. RT. Then get to that. Okay. You're trying to jump from here

(08:02):
to here and then you do that. People looking to start at SST get to that hill and crash
you. Not a bad nightmare. You know what I mean? Bro, you gotta, you gotta, you gotta
get to that. But with that being said, going into our another key pointer, I'm glad you

(08:28):
brought that up. I want people to create realistic goals. I know we said that last episode, but
that's, you know, that is kind of important when you're, when you're creating a resolution.
If you keep saying it, bro, it's the truth. You know what I'm saying? Like I know you
mentioned that a couple of times or whatever. It's true. You know, make your goals realistic,

(08:48):
bro. You know what I'm saying? And that, that goal that you really want to hit, you know,
it's goals in between to get to that. You feel me? Get step by step, bro. You know what
I'm saying? You don't just climb a ladder, start on the first one and jump to the motherfucking
top. That's all it takes, man. I mean, you got to put into hard work too, but it literally

(09:11):
is step by step by step. Huh? I said a bad word. It's okay though. We working on our
own. I know I'd be disappointed in my pops because whenever he called me, he'd be asking

(09:42):
me, son, you out there smoking, drinking and custom. I'm doing all of that. Every single
one. But all right. Going back, going back to, you know, improving people's, uh, you
know, new year's resolution, but yeah, it's just a realistic, realistic goals. Know your
capabilities, you know, know yourself. Um, it's kind of, it's kind of tough saying that,

(10:08):
but yeah, you got to know yourself, you know, you got to know, you got to know what you're
capable of, what you know. And shoot, if you don't know enough, you can't do enough, you
know, improve, put, put that in your resolution. So, man, look on the goals, man. People, people
tend to let other people, deem eight them away from their goals. It's cool to do it

(10:31):
for a minute, but don't write it down and come back to it, man. Every goal and reach
instantly. Like I'm telling y'all, like take progression, progression, progression,
if real as the goal. So I got a couple of goals. My main goal is to own a building,
but I never, I can't go from just being broke to open the building. It don't work that way.

(10:54):
So I want to get in the real estate body, titles across the country, do this, do that.
And it makes me, when I look up, I can flip all that or I can keep it. And I got enough money
to get that building. It's a process, man. I didn't expect to jump from nothing to building
within a year or two. You know what I mean? Like I had to take that point and that's just how I go.

(11:17):
Man, you gotta make sense. Man, people be so non-disciplined. They think everything
come easy and come instantly. Man, man, step by step. Yeah. And that process of you doing all of
that, you going to know what it takes to have that building. You know what I'm saying? You're
jumping into something. You don't even know, you know, what it takes to do it. You know,

(11:40):
then it becomes a, what's the word for it? The opposite of progression. Regression.
Definitely listening to my boy T. I like that word. Step by step. So you can be ready for that main
goal. You feel me? I don't know a lot of people parents be saying this, but parents be knowing,

(12:07):
bro, when you work hard for something, you tend to appreciate it more and take care of it more,
man. Quit trying to make everything so instant. That fast money, that fad, whatever. It's cool,
but it ain't like we're working and getting it from the moment, man. Especially like if you,
if you're starting from the bottom, you'd be like, man, it wasn't easy, but when she get it, you'd be

(12:30):
like, we're from the church. You got to grind the shine, bro. So I like that one word T said
earlier, discipline. So the, so the people that do get it fast, I mean, like they don't, they don't
have the discipline, you know, they, they didn't, they didn't build the character to support

(12:55):
themselves, you know, and that, and that success, like you see it all the time. These motherfuckers, excuse me, Lord.
Oh, sorry. These, these young, these young savages out here.

(13:18):
Yeah. You see, you see how fast they climb to the top, but they crash and burn just as fast though, man.
It's all about discipline. I like that word.
Keeping your emotions intact. Cause a lot of people run off emotions. Sometimes you got to switch over to that logic side.
Actually think about what you're doing, not just beating off or the adrenaline or emotion or whatever.

(13:42):
When you get more deeper than just emotions, man, emotions, emotions is cool, but they don't really
lead you in the wrong direction. If you ain't disciplined enough to have control of your emotions.
Nah, for sure. They're emotional. They probably give you a short term happiness, cause you jumped the gun on some shit.

(14:02):
Man, them emotions different, man. Running off emotion is dangerous though.
Oh, nah, nah, for sure.
I don't know, bro. You coming from the city, bro. I just seen the motherfucking man. I got you, man.
I just want to make a 20 year deficit distinction in five minutes, bro.

(14:26):
No, they want it like this.
I mean, they can do something, and they can, you know, you know how it goes.
It ain't, you got to, sometimes you got to think, bro, like, is this really worth what I'm getting into?
Is this really worth it?
We haven't missed 20 years, 15 years, whatever, whatever it may be.

(14:50):
Like, you got to think, man.
And everybody know, oh,
coming from the play, a lot of people not so, man, it's, they think they're on a band, but at the same time,
you got to realize, man, is this worth it? You know what I mean? Like, I'm about to jump on the net, bro.
Do I really need to do this? Do I really need to do it?

(15:12):
You know what I mean?
So, like, yeah, for real, like, but with risk taking, you know, I think I, so I try to see people, like,
I try to think, like, you know, they're probably desperate, man. So, like, what would you say to people that are desperate, that got no other way?
Think. Think.

(15:33):
Think. Think.
Yeah.
You could, you could put a lot together and listen. You could run that line and listen, bro.
For real.
People will see a whole bunch of stuff, but if you could sit here and you could, you can, like, think out what's the good thing, what's the bad thing, what's the bad thing, you gotta take you a long way, bro.

(15:57):
I'm 26, man.
I'm 26, man.
You got the mind of a four-year-old because I listen to people, I listen to them four-year-olds, you know what I mean?
Because they don't listen to us, so they just tell me your secrets.
And I'm like, all right, so I see you, I'm going to take the beat over here and we're going to go this way.
You know what I mean?
Yeah, it's like weighing the risk and the cost.

(16:18):
I listen to anybody, bro.
From eight-year-olds to 20-year-olds, I'm going down to two-year-olds.
No cap.
I listen to a lot of them because I'm a Syrian.
Not for real.
For real.
Everybody.
Yeah.
I try to listen to you.
If people are talking to me, yeah, I'll try to listen because you never know what you're going to get.
I hate missing out.
That's my thing.

(16:39):
I hate missing out.
I think my shorty said there's a syndrome for that, but I hate to miss out.
So I try to listen to everybody and I try to listen to what they say, no matter what they age and gender and none of that, you know?
They could say some good shit, honestly.
Excuse me, Lord, say that again.
I've heard a lot.
I had a what?
A five-year-old teaching me something.
They learned that.

(17:00):
I'm like, what are they saying?
I'm like, fuck the cap.
I got on the Google and it was, I'm like, okay.
Yeah, nah.
They be doing some shit.
They be doing, they be doing, but it just comes down to that stuff.
It's a point you got to know that somebody telling you some feeling versus what somebody telling you some real, you know what I mean?
Yeah.
And you go from there.
I feel like we ought to have heard the saying, listen before you speak.

(17:22):
I feel like all of that ties in there.
Add that to your resolution.
Become a better listener, bro.
No.
Also, you don't have to talk about anything.
You can keep your mouth closed.
It's because you got something to say to a man who's had to say it.
You know what I mean?
Sometimes, just listening, you don't have to always voice what you think or what you feel or something like that.

(17:46):
Sometimes you be like, I'm going to just listen to everybody else.
And then when you listen to everybody else, you got new ideas, new energy, new spaces of energy coming to your mind.
You know what I mean?
You're like, dang, I didn't think about it that way.
You know what?
I'm going to keep my mouth closed and just listen out.
Have the insight to listen, though.
Yeah.
I agree, bro.
Well said.

(18:08):
So another key point, or you can think about when going into the New Year's, making your resolutions.
Let's think about our connections.
So when I talk about our connections, like our relationships, making an effort to nurture those positive relationships and build a support system around it.
Family, family values.

(18:29):
We value that.
That's one of our topics.
I think we talk about every episode.
Family is important.
Yeah.
We done said it a lot of times.
You can't go alone in this world.
You need to be connected.
You need positive people.
You need relationships to nurture in life, to progress.
That's the only way we get better as human beings, honestly, too.

(18:56):
Like, with relationships, you can use people's knowledge.
Stay connected.
Like I said, we really cannot go through this world alone.
Like, introverted people, I cannot see how they stay alone.
Yeah, I definitely agree, bro.

(19:18):
Like, I think with me having connections with friends or whatever.
These are my friends.
Let me clear this up.
We say family.
We get it.
Everybody had their family issues or whatever.
But as an adult, you go off into the world, you go meet people.
That doesn't become close or whatever.

(19:40):
Just because you blood don't mean somebody can't be your relative.
These are my blood.
These are my friends.
I consider them brothers.
You feel me?
So definitely having people around me that I consider family or whatever has always been a positive on my life.
And it motivates you, you know, to motivate you to do better.

(20:03):
You know what I'm saying?
You got people that love you and support you.
You support them.
It's a balance.
You know what I'm saying?
So definitely family is important.
Yeah, no, for sure.
Like, trying to go through a bad situation or a rough situation alone is kind of tough.
For instance, like deployment, you're going to need to have good people around you.
Or if you say, for instance, I have a bad job, you know, your coworkers aren't shit.

(20:31):
But, you know, find somebody to talk to, like, you know, not not at work, you know, have to have the number text them.
You got to have people that you're close to because it is tough to go through this world alone.
I can only imagine the ones that are going through it alone.
But yeah, yeah, so definitely this year, try to make try to stay connected.

(20:54):
I'm definitely going to make some more connections, you know, try to try to make some positive connections to not trying to put myself in a bad situation to have a negative connections to put you in a bad situation.
I was about to say that because I feel like a lot of like maybe introverts or whatever people consider they so introverted.
Like maybe at one point in time, they was trying to put theirself out there and they got pooped on or whatever. Right.

(21:19):
That happens. The thing what life is like life can always put you down.
No matter what you just put you down, you got to get back up.
You got to keep doing right. No matter what it is, you know, I'm saying, rather relationship didn't work.
Friendship didn't work. You know, I'm saying you got to keep putting yourself out there.
Always people hear that for you.

(21:42):
Now, like life does come with a lot of speed bumps and adversities.
Going back to the word discipline, we just got to have the discipline to see through it, solve it.
As grown men, you know, we definitely have the responsibility to have the discipline to see through things and resolve those issues as well.
It is what it is. We're grown men, you know, we got to we got to do what grown men do.

(22:07):
Speaking of family, man, go back to that family where I don't want to do some earlier this year.
You know, me, me, me, me, me, my family never seen me be emotional.
Not like that. But I was going through something.
I finally reached out to my family, you know what I mean?
And I'm far from my family back in Detroit. We are out here in Cali.

(22:28):
So I finally realized I can talk to my family.
Like I was so in what you call a stigma or something like that where I'm a man, I take care of anything by myself.
And I was like that for a long time.
I took everything.

(22:50):
I was like, I'm not a fool.
I'm not a fool.

(23:20):
I had this. Yeah.
And our heartbreak heartbreak, heartbreak is tough.

(23:43):
And even as a man, it's not like you can just, you know, sit up and cry about it.
You know what I'm saying? As a man, like you want to take it to the chair, you know, stand up.
You know, I got to make it through this. But really, it's eating you straight up.
I was trying to do everything.

(24:04):
And it was just like, you know what I mean?

(24:28):
After going through all of that, right? You know, you realize you had that support system was able to think about and talk about it with your family.
Do you feel like that was able to help you heal, learn?
How did it make you feel being able to talk to your family?
It made me feel confident and appreciated.

(24:59):
I mean, I never seen that when I talk to her, she's like, oh, I got you.
You felt valued.

(25:30):
You know, I remember.

(25:55):
I remember.

(26:18):
You definitely feel more confident, bro. Looking forward when you know who the fuck is behind you.
That makes sense.

(26:45):
Every time I had I was going to do some I'll call it because I already knew he was going to sound like, bro, come on, come hang out with me.
Yeah.

(27:16):
I'm going to bring you two cranberries.
Don't get the grapefruit.
I'm going to bring you two cranberries.

(27:47):
