Speaker 1 (00:01):
Welcome to the Hemp
Del Sol podcast.
All health, no high.
Here's your host, Mary LisaLawless.
Speaker 2 (00:14):
Hello, hello everyone
, friends, family, great
universe.
We are back for another episodeof the Hemp Del Sol podcast,
and we've spoken about thisbefore.
We've talked about crystals, because, marilisa, you also own
Crystals Del Sol as well as HempDel Sol.
Speaker 3 (00:31):
Yeah, it's actually
one business.
We just had to separate it outbecause of all the flack we were
getting about CBD.
Speaker 2 (00:38):
Ah yes, the CBD flack
.
We've spoken about smallcrystals, but today you're going
to enlighten everyone aboutspecimen pieces, the larger
pieces that you see so lovelydecorating your background there
.
So, with that being said, whydon't you talk a little bit
about those beautiful piecesbehind you and we will go from
(01:00):
there?
Speaker 3 (01:01):
Sure, so good morning
.
Well, guess it could.
It could be any time by thetime somebody listens to this
very true, very true, yes um, Iam.
I've been very interested incrystals for many years.
I've always had crystals in myhouse and things like that, and
we've had the little crystalshere for years and years, never
(01:24):
really made a big deal about it,and what I have found is that,
as we made the official storethe cbd store and back in 2018 I
added the crystals to be partof the store, because it's all
about natural healing.
We know that there is sciencethat shows that crystals put off
(01:45):
energy, like everything else.
Everything's got some level ofenergy attached to it.
Yup, and we do things like putcrystals in the full moon, and
there's so many different thingsthat we do, but it would be
really challenging to do withthese pieces.
So, these pieces behind me, I'vegot three, four, I got a few
(02:07):
behind me and they are calledspecimen pieces because they're
one of a kind, they're large, they're unique and they could
weigh anywhere from 10 to youname it thousands of pounds.
And then you need special carsand supports and things so your
(02:30):
floor doesn't collapse.
In florida, most of our floorsare concrete, so it's not too
big a deal.
One of the things that I havefound is that there are people
that like to have just a piecein their home or two.
They're not really into all thelittle ones, the little
tchotchkes that need to bedusted and cleaned all the time
(02:51):
and moved around, but they likethese just one-of-a-kind pieces.
And in reality all crystals areone-of-a-kind there's no two,
just like we humans there's notwo exactly the same.
So the piece that I have herebehind me I really, really liked
when I saw it, because thepoints, which is the crystal
(03:12):
itself and how it comes to anedge and makes that you know,
prism-y looking thing, arereally large and they make the
stands specifically for each ofthese crystals.
So there's no stand that'salready made that you can just
plop one of these into.
Speaker 2 (03:29):
So the stands are
specifically made, even Back up
a second, that big one behindyou.
That big kind of looks like thepurple amethyst that I have on
my neck.
Speaker 3 (03:37):
These are both
amethysts.
This one is amethyst and thisis amethyst.
This amethyst back here weighsabout 40 pounds and it is called
an amethyst cave, amethyst caveA cave because for those ones
that you see.
That's like half a geode.
Speaker 2 (03:55):
Okay.
Speaker 3 (03:55):
So it's that.
Speaker 2 (03:58):
So it's what's inside
you have to remind me again
about the amethyst, though, because you've told this to me
before, because I wear onearound my neck.
Tell for our listeners what aresome of the properties of the
amethyst.
What benefits do they have?
What does it bring?
Speaker 3 (04:12):
Amethyst, overall, is
a spiritual healer and when you
look at different culturesthey'll say it's attached to the
third eye how our intuition, the way that we see the world to
the third eye, how ourintuition, the way that we see
the world, how do we moveforward in the world.
So it's really connected tospirituality and it's actually
the most common crystal outsideof rose quartz.
(04:34):
I don't have a rose quartzspecimen piece.
I've got an order coming soI'll pop them in at some point
in the near future.
But amethyst is just consideredan overall healer.
It's the divine, it's connectedto our spiritual centers and
some will say it's connected tothis part of our head.
(04:55):
So this is what they call thethird eye and it is just about
how do we create a sense of calmin our life.
Most people that have specimenpieces, these one-of-a-kind
pieces, it is amethyst.
So that is what most people aredrawn to and I think that many
(05:17):
people are looking for spiritualconnections without going to a
religious side, withoutconnecting to, like you know,
creating some sense ofspirituality that has to do with
what it is that's going on intheir lives.
So we've had I had somebodycome in and buy.
I had a big tree, an amethysttree.
(05:38):
That was in an amethyst basewith a big tree and I had
someone come in um, a woman inYendi.
She came in and her and herdaughter purchased that for
their home and they wereactually looking for a cave but
when they saw the tree they werelike, oh, we really like that.
So everyone has a specificattraction and what they're
(06:00):
interested in.
So the amethyst is like themost common, most popular.
Speaker 2 (06:05):
That's the granddaddy
, the mother, the mother crystal
.
So what are?
What's the other one behind you?
There's an amber looking oneright in the middle.
Speaker 3 (06:13):
That one right there
is called citrine.
Speaker 2 (06:16):
What is it?
Speaker 3 (06:16):
I'm sorry Now citrine
C-I-T-R-I-N-E Okay, citrine
also.
It's actually my sisterMelinda's favorite crystal and
it is truly connected to healingthe inner child.
We use the citrine in therapyand how it's used is that most
(06:37):
of the time it's with thesmaller pieces, not the big ones
.
You hold it against this, thispart of you that's your solar
plexus, um to meditate on.
So citrine is is considered.
It's the same color as thatparticular chakra.
So the body in ayurvedic or invedic belief systems, we have
(06:58):
all these energy systems thatare around us spiraling all the
time, and the solar plexus isthat particular chakra and it is
for healing past trauma.
So it absorbs all of the sadnessand the grief that we're
dealing with from a lot ofchildhood stuff often yeah
(07:21):
sometimes it's just about theanxiety that people are
experiencing today, and socitrine is a favorite of people
that are in recovery from trauma, post-traumatic stress and
trying to find ways to heal, andit's the one that most people
are attracted to when they'redoing that kind of work, so it
is fascinating.
Again, that thing weighs about45 pounds.
Speaker 2 (07:44):
Wow, so it makes
sense that it's your sister's
favorite with the work you dowith the transformation project,
with healing trauma and goingthrough that process.
Speaker 3 (07:52):
Exactly, exactly.
So we'll have these in ourtherapy rooms.
We have small ones in ourtherapy rooms and we'll shift,
we'll switch them out because wehave different stones that we
use for different differentclients and I don't really say
anything to clients unless theyask.
But I don't say anything, Ijust have them sitting on the
table and they just lookdecorative, you know.
(08:13):
But if they ask, I'll explainwhy that particular crystal or
stone is there.
Most of the time what I have isforms of obsidian because it
absorbs grief.
So that's a whole other thing.
I don't have any specimenpieces of that.
Most of those big pieces I'vesold rather rapidly.
Speaker 2 (08:33):
Yeah, they're
beautiful.
And it's funny because theolder I get, the more open my
mind becomes to things like this.
I'm fascinated by these topics.
If you were to ask me and talkto me about crystals 10, 15
years ago, I would just roll myeyes back in my head and say
I've used the word before.
That's all woo-woo right.
But again, the more spiritual Iget, the older I get, the more
(08:54):
I realize what I don't knowabout this world the more
humbled I am the more open I amto receiving all sorts of
messages from all over the place.
So when we talk about thesetopics I just approach
everything with a complete openmind, and I really am fascinated
by Chris.
I don't know a lot about them, but every time we talk about
(09:14):
them it just gives me a littlebit more to marinate on, if you
will, I see some other.
Oh, go ahead Sorry.
Speaker 3 (09:24):
No, I was just going
to say before I started to talk
about these, I was at NovaUniversity yesterday for an
event, so all of the universitystudents were walking by and
they were all looking at thedifferent crystals and different
and they had questions aboutthings.
One of them said how do youknow so much about crystals?
And I said I research it.
I look at something I'mattracted to.
(09:45):
I get on Google.
There's a couple of apps that Iuse that are free apps and
it'll talk about the things andI go with what resonates with me
.
So with that and how peoplechoose crystals, I'll talk about
it in a moment.
But to go back to the specimenpieces, I've got quite a few of
(10:05):
these here.
Let me see if I can.
Even I've got some there.
Few of these here, let me seeif I can.
Even I've got some there, andthen they're elsewhere.
This is actually another formof amethyst.
This is called pink amethyst.
So pink amethyst has also gotmany of the same properties that
(10:26):
the traditional purple amethysthas, just a little, a little
bit lighter just a little bit.
Well, they're a little bitlighter, but they have like a
type of iron.
Speaker 2 (10:38):
Okay.
Speaker 3 (10:38):
That has created this
, this mix of color.
They were originally found inPatagonia and they've since been
found also in Brazil, but theseare also connected to, you know
, just spiritual healing, justcreating a healing space in your
heart and your mind.
I happen to like hearts, so Ieven the rose quartz that's
(10:59):
coming are all heart-shaped, um,and the hearts truly are at the
as strange as it sounds at theheart of all the healing that we
try to do here.
So the amethyst because of theiron that is infiltrated, it
made it pink, so they call itpink amethyst.
(11:20):
And I have a bunch of littlepieces, I've got all kinds of
stuff, so even let me see I canlift one.
This one's not too heavy, it'sonly a few pounds, it's like a
little dumbbell.
Speaker 1 (11:32):
Yes, crystal belt.
Speaker 3 (11:35):
And again, I'm always
fascinated with how they knew
to crack this open and say, hey, let's crack this rock open and
see what's in it.
But again, all the stands arecustom made for things.
When you see a crystal on astand, um, so it's.
It's always fascinating, youknow.
And then the citrine.
I mean there's pieces that arethis big and then there's pieces
(11:58):
that are 40 pounds, 45 pounds, and again you'll find in the
store that I've got a lot ofamethyst and citrine in heart
shapes you got all the goodiesover there.
I do I really like heart, soit's like it's.
It's fascinating to me what todo and what I bring in.
And even with the pink amethystwhen you look at it, one of my
(12:21):
favorite pieces is because ithas pieces of the geode that you
can see, the green and again,it's just different places that
they found it, different thingsthat crystals are mixed with.
Most crystals aren't pure toone gem.
The big ones are becausethey're breaking these open and
(12:42):
they're finding it in.
But even within the amethystyou'll find quartz.
Amethyst is a type of quartzbut you'll find the clear quartz
and sometimes you'll find smokyquartz in with the citrine.
Speaker 2 (12:54):
Now do they find?
I'm sorry to cut you off, I gotso excited.
I was like, ah, do they findthese types of?
Are there different types ofcrystals specific to different
parts of the world, or do theyappear?
Speaker 3 (13:06):
everywhere.
Speaker 2 (13:07):
Where Like?
Is there different types ofcrystals specific to different
parts of the world?
Or do they appear everywhere?
Or is it like, where are theygetting these?
Like the ones behind you?
Are these coming from specific?
Speaker 3 (13:12):
areas.
These all came from Brazil.
Speaker 2 (13:14):
Brazil.
Speaker 1 (13:15):
Brazil.
Speaker 3 (13:16):
Brazil has a lot of
mines.
I've only been to one town inBrazil, belo Horizonte, and I
just learned from a Brazilianthat that's in a specific state
where all the mines are.
I was like, oh, that's cool.
I wish I would have known thatwhen I was there.
But many of the crystals comefrom Brazil because there's so
(13:37):
many mines there and I thinkthat the land there is fertile
for all of these caves and theway that they find these
minerals.
When you think about the Amazon, the rainforest is there there.
I mean, that's like really likeground zero for earthy.
So yeah, I think that that'swhere a lot of them come from.
Some of them do come from theus.
(13:58):
We have tourmaline.
There's one that I just found.
See, I do have it, tourmaline, this one.
Speaker 2 (14:06):
You can see that
they're not apple-shaped.
Speaker 3 (14:09):
Yeah, these are
little apple shapes.
I liked them so I bought them.
This crystal is actually foundin Texas.
It's found in other parts ofthe world as well, but it's
found in Texas.
In Texas they call it yaniteL-L-A-N-I-T-E and it's found in
Mexico.
It's found in Texas and thenother parts of the world.
(14:31):
Where it's found it's calledQue Sera, que Sera, sera, so I
really like the name of it, andit's a crystal that has four
different crystals in it, soit's always different colors,
and's it.
And I have an orb.
I have a collection of orbs, um, and I have a yanite orb or a
(14:55):
case or orb, and it's mostlyblue.
So it's blue, black and pinkand it all grows together, so
it's really cool.
Speaker 2 (15:02):
Um, yeah, I like to
find pieces like that you have
some really cool stuff at yourshop and that's one of the
things I love about your spot isit's very homey.
It's just such a warm, invitingspace.
When you come into the store, you feel like you're walking
(15:25):
into a friend's house.
Come into the store, you feellike you're walking into a
friend's house, right, it's notlike a storefront that you walk
into and very cold.
You have a very invitingatmosphere and you're very
engaged with folks that come inthere.
You really care about thepeople that come into the shop
and you try to learn about themand you try to see what's going
on in their life and see how youcan really help them.
So it's a very personalizedapproach.
(15:46):
So you hear that everyone outthere.
If you haven't been in to hempDel Sol and David, you got to
check it out.
She's doing some great things.
Speaker 3 (15:54):
Thank you.
I agree, because there youcould walk into the rock store
down the street or the crystalstore across the highway.
And you're right, they're juststorefronts.
They may offer other services, like here.
We offer a lot of otherservices, yet every single
person that walks through thedoor I do want to know what
(16:17):
brings you here.
What is it you're looking for?
And most of the time, peoplethat walk in off the street are
like I don't know, and so I'lleducate them on how to choose a
crystal and what to look for andwhat you know, what is it
that's going on in their lifeemotionally.
Think about the person.
A lot of times, people want tocome in to get a gift for
(16:37):
someone.
Think about that person beforeyou start looking at stones.
And you're right, thepersonalized approach.
We could be just a regularstorefront, but it's not who we
are.
We've been here as familytherapists looking at ways to
make people more comfortablewhen they walk through the door,
simply because dealing withyour issues it's really
(16:58):
challenging.
Very few people really want tovolunteer to do this.
They usually start therapybecause there's a crisis yeah
and yet what I'm finding is thatmany people walk through the
door.
They're not looking for therapyAlthough some people have
actually engaged in therapyafter they've come through the
store, which is also very coolYet we're looking for just how
(17:19):
do we make your life a littlebit easier?
So the inviting atmosphere outin our lobby area is meditation,
the glow lights, a fish tanklittle things that are just
around.
Speaker 2 (17:35):
Yeah, the couches
Soothing, relaxing, friendly,
welcoming environment.
Speaker 3 (17:40):
Yeah, and that was my
mom's idea initially 15 years
ago, 20 years ago, I mean, she'sbeen gone for 12, 13 years, 13
years now, um, but we've beenphysically here since 1991 yeah
and so when she started and wewould redecorate or things like
that, she's like we need to makeit look like a living room,
(18:02):
something that somebody wouldwant to come in and just sit and
have a cup of tea.
And I'll do that.
When people walk in, I'll offerthem a cup of tea or a cup of
coffee, a drink from the cooler,a snack if they need it, cause
sometimes they come in with kidsand we have kids that are on
the spectrum that come throughhere sometimes.
So the parents get very nervousand what I tell them is that
(18:22):
there's carpet here, the wholearea is carpeted.
So if they drop something, it'sokay.
And I think that there's carpethere, the whole area is
carpeted.
So if they drop something, it'sokay.
And I think that that's whatmany parents worry about is
breaking something, because inmost stores you break it, you
buy it here.
Speaker 2 (18:34):
It's really hard to
break so tell everybody that
would like to come by and checkout what you got going on there.
How can they do that?
What's your address?
How can they reach you?
Speaker 3 (18:48):
The easiest way to
find me first is to text me.
The number that's at the bottomof this page is my cell phone.
Text me if you want to come by.
We do accept walk-ins, butsometimes people have come in
and they see, oh, your door'slocked.
What that means is that I don'thave a salesperson here yet
besides me and I'm in sessionwith someone doing therapy.
(19:10):
Those people often will comeback if I just explain to them
what's happened.
It happened on Tuesday when Iwas at the hospital with my
daughter.
She was like, oh okay, noworries.
So then I texted her and I saidmy salesperson is there now and
they actually went back and mysaleswoman was so excited
because she said these two niceladies came in and we were
(19:33):
talking and they actually boughta few crystals, you know.
So they were excited, nice um,but I'm right on davy road.
For anybody that knows browardcounty, I'm right on davy road,
4431 davy road.
That's not the mailing address.
The actual mailing address is4431 southwest 64th avenue.
(19:55):
We're in suite 109.
We actually are 107, 8 and 9,but we do our.
The crystal store itself, thecbd and the crystal store is
right here in 109 and that's theentrance.
That's where you come in.
You'll see a sign on the street.
I'm working on creating a newlogo and new signage and all
(20:16):
kinds of things, so the storewill stand out just a little bit
more from the street.
The we're right between therodeo ground entrance and orange
drive.
For anybody that knows thisarea, and yeah.
And we're in the peninsulabuilding.
Most people that I meet atevents they'll say, oh, I live
(20:37):
in.
Baby, I didn't know you werethere.
So that's why we're working onsignage.
Moving into the retail side ofthings was a little bit of a
challenge, trying to get thingsup and running and you know,
advertising is a store.
So anyway, but yeah, we're inthe Peninsula building Week 109.
(21:04):
Just, there's plenty of parking.
There's parking in frontparking and back.
Our parking lot does notgenerally get flooded too bad
with the heavy rains.
The mayor here has done a lotto uh, create better drainage,
storm drainage and um, yeah, soit's, it's, it's very cool.
I live close to here as well,so there's sometimes people will
call me and say you know, hey,I'm in the area and I'm like and
(21:26):
if I'm not busy I'll run overit's, it's not necessarily a
problem.
It's like, yeah, okay, it works.
And um, yeah, you know, when Istill do events out in the city,
out in the town, town, fortLauderdale.
Speaker 1 (21:39):
I've got new events
coming up.
I'll be at the craft fair.
Speaker 3 (21:42):
Fingers crossed that
I got my application in quick
enough to be at the craft fair, right behind us in the rodeo
grounds.
Yeah, you'll be there, beinvolved.
Speaker 2 (21:50):
Yeah, yeah, all right
