(00:00):
Hey, welcome to the November edition of the How to Podcast
series. What are we doing this month?
We're doing an episode every single day for the month of
November. Yeah, that's a lot of podcast
episodes, Dave. And what I want to do is I want
to shine a light on amazing podcasters who are doing great,
(00:21):
great things in podcasting. I want you to meet some of my
friends now. These are friends that I've met
through this podcast. These are friends that I've met
by being on their show. These are friends that have been
at our meetups. These are friends who I cherish
and I think are people that you need to know.
The best way to grow podcasting is word of mouth, marketing,
(00:44):
telling people about people's shows.
That's what this is all about for the month of November.
It's all word of mouth. You're going to hear from them.
Come on and talk about there arepodcasts you're going to hear
clips from shows you'll have links to go follow these amazing
people. And I want to give you a variety
of different amazing podcasters for you to fall in love with.
(01:05):
And you found the right spot. This is November, it's all about
the listeners, it's all about you.
And I want to shine a light on some amazing people.
Are you ready? OK, let's jump into this because
I think you're going to love this and I'm glad you're here.
And what I can't wait for is theday when you and I get to
(01:27):
interact. I can't wait for us to meet each
other at our meetups online through the link in the in the
notes attached to this episode where you and I can meet each
other and I can be there in yourcorner to support you.
I would love to do that. So here's another example of one
(01:49):
of my friends at their show, andI want you to fall in love with
them just as much as I have. OK Welcome to the Outer podcast
series. It's November.
It's national podcast post month.
It's 30 episodes in 30 days. And I want you to meet some of
my favorite people in this world.
This world's called podcasting. It's all about them.
(02:13):
It's not about me. Welcome to the show.
Thanks for being here. Check out one of my friends.
You ready? You ready?
OK, here we go. OK, so I host the Living the
Next Chapter podcast and it's anauthor podcast, almost 500
episodes in three years. It's also participating in the
(02:33):
monthly November national podcast post month.
So there's 30 episodes over on Living the Next Chapter in
addition to the 30 episodes hereon How to podcast series and
also on Dad Space. They're also we're also doing 30
episodes over there. So 90 episodes are going out
(02:53):
this month. I'm exhausted, but I'm having a
great time in this space. I host living the next chapter
and yes, I'm promoting my own show because a, it's not about
me. This show is not about me at
all. So this is another example for
you about how you can podcast. This show is hosted by myself
(03:16):
and I'm not an author. I've never written anything in
my life and I interview authors, but I interview them from a non
author host perspective, which gives me this creative edge to
ask questions of my guest that they wouldn't be asked on a
typical author podcast. When the host is an author and
(03:38):
the guest is an author, they seem to slide into author talk
naturally because they understand each other.
Being a non author host of the show, I get to ask some of the
questions they don't normally get asked as guests when they
come onto a show to talk about their book.
So I love this for that reason. And it's kind of the superpower
of this podcast is I'm just likeyou, I've never done this.
(04:02):
I'm I've never been an author. I don't understand how writing a
book works. So I'm just naturally curious
like you are. And I want to introduce you to
great authors from around the world.
I've had authors on as young as six years of age and to date as
old as 86 years of age. So we're kind of crossing all
(04:22):
the age groups we have authors on that have written for
Netflix. We've had actors, we've had
musicians, we've had single parents, we've had children as
seniors, business people, cookbooks, cartoonists,
everything you can think of on the show, which makes a really
wide variety of episodes to pickfrom.
(04:45):
And I'd love for you to check out Living the next chapters.
So one of the episodes I did, which I'm really happy and
excited about is I had Adam Nimoy on my show.
And if you're like, wait a minute, did you say Adam Nimoy?
I said yes. Adam Nimoy, his father, Leonard
Nimoy, Spock from Star Trek. And I was the kid in school back
(05:06):
in the day when I would take my lunch box, it would have Star
Trek on it. And I have a thermos and the
plastic, you know, lunch box andall decked out with Star Trek.
And now here I am having time with Leonard's son Adam, as Adam
wrote a book about his relationship with his dad.
And like, what a great conversation and what a
(05:26):
privilege to take a microphone and headphones and sit down with
somebody you admire and a familythat you admire.
And Adam came on my show. He's a super amazing human
being. And the other thing is I also
watch Big Bang Theory. And on Big Bang Theory, Sheldon
(05:47):
Cooper, the main characters, is obsessed with Spock.
And this led to an opportunity for Adam's dad, Leonard, to come
on The Big Bang Theory in a unique way.
And it's hilarious. I'll make sure I leave a clip
for the YouTube version of this as well so you can watch it.
But basically, Spock is a actionfigure character on Sheldon's
(06:11):
desk. And Sheldon has a conversation
with Spock, Leonard, Nimoy on the desk.
And it's hilarious. So good.
So Adam gives a little bit of insight to how that'll happen.
And Adam himself was also on BigBang Theory, which is so cool.
So we got a little bit of nerddom there for anybody who
(06:31):
likes Big Bang Theory and Sheldon Cooper and the cast
there. But Adam shares his story in
this episode. I'm sure you have a little clip
of it. But in this episode, Adam talks
about a strained relationship with his father, dealing with
the press and paparazzi. The unnatural Hollywood lens put
(06:52):
on a family because of a superstar father and gives you
an update on where he is and where his kids are in this
world. It's outstanding.
It's a full circle moment on theshow and I'm so proud to have
him on my podcast. But here's a little clip from
Living the Next Chapter. If you know anybody interested
in reading anybody who's an author, who wants to be an
(07:13):
author, go check out Living the Next chapter.
I would love to check have you check it out.
Living the Next chapter.com is where you can find everything
for the show, but here is Adam Nimoy on Living the Next Chapter
talking about a book he wrote about his dad, Leonard Nimoy
from Star Trek. Really proud of this episode,
(07:33):
but here is Adam Nimoy on the show.
You ready? Here we go.
And now? On with the show.
But that is one of my favorite episodes of the series.
Yeah, it's, it's hilarious, I think.
Doctor Cooper. Is someone there?
(07:57):
Down here on your desk. Spock.
I need to speak with you. Fascinating.
The only logical explanation is that this is a.
Dream. It is not the only logical
explanation. For example, you could be
(08:19):
hallucinating after being hit onthe head by, say, a coconut.
Was I hit on the head by a coconut?
I'm not going to dignify that with a response.
You know, when they cut to him, they, they, they've moved his
figure around a little bit. It's just, it's hilarious.
(08:41):
The the whole premise of that show.
I think my dad said that he, he was willing to be involved, but
he he would not be on camera. And that's how they came up with
this idea of, you know, the talking doll.
Everyone, welcome back to Livingthe Next Chapter.
Today's privilege for me and an honor.
I have a guest on the show todaythat's going to take us to a
faraway Galaxy far away from here with a great history in his
(09:06):
family and his own personal pursuits.
He's on the podcast to talk about his new book that he's
written about his father, and I'm excited to have him here.
Adam Nimoy is on the podcast. Adam, welcome to the show.
I'm so glad to have you here. David, thank you for inviting
me. It's exciting to have you here.
I've been doing some background research and things.
You have a very famous family name which many people are going
(09:29):
to be sitting up straight going, wait a minute, did he just say
the name? Yes, you said the name.
Your father is an inspiration that continues on for many of us
and it's it's exciting to have you here.
I was watching some clips from your dad appearing on The Big
Bang Theory, and he's a little character on Sheldon's desk, and
(09:50):
that was so comedic and funny ofyour dad.
The one thing I love about your father is his voice.
The sound of his voice is so iconic.
That kind of deep baritone soundthat just goes right through
you. What a great voice, what a great
representation. I love having him on that
(10:10):
episode. That was so much fun.
But that is one of my favorite episodes of the series.
Yeah. And it's, it's hilarious, I
think. As he was posed in different
poses as he's talking to Sheldon, I'm like.
When they cut to him, they, theymoved his figure around a little
bit. It's just hilarious the the
(10:31):
whole premise of that show. I think my dad said that he
want, he was willing to be involved, but he he would not be
on camera. And that's how they came up with
this idea of, you know, the talking doll.
And you had your own chance to be on the show as well as a
cameraman doing a Spot Spock documentary.
That was so cool for you as well, Right?
Right. I was on camera, yeah.
(10:53):
Because, you know, I contacted them at the show and announced
them that they would be willing to if some of the principals,
cast members and the showrunner, the the creative behind the show
would be willing to sit for an interview about the documentary.
And I got a call back from Bill Prady, one of the producers who
said, we're going to go you one better.
(11:13):
We're going to have you on the show filming the documentary of
Sheldon in the show. If I was willing and I jumped at
the chance. It was such a great opportunity.
It was very generous of them to allow me to do that.
They, they wrote my, you know, the whole story arc of me making
the documentary into the show with Sheldon and it was a, it
(11:35):
was just a lovely experience, very lovely people.
They're, you know, a real family.
They knew what they were doing. They had been at it for many
years. And it was a very, it was a just
a wonderful orderly, you know, no snafu experience.
So I, I, I, I'm very grateful and I really enjoyed it.
Amazing. Awesome.
(11:56):
Again, Adam, thank you for sharing your father with us
through the book. Thank you for allowing us to
have a little piece of him with us and for his story to carry
on. It's amazing to to have this
time with you. Really appreciate it.
Thank you for making time for this.
I really appreciate you invitingme David.
Take care and as always, live long and prosper.
(12:16):
Everyone, all the information's in the show notes as always go
there and make sure you follow up with Adam.
He's a a great person to talk toand be in contact with.
Follow his Instagram page. Some beautiful things there to
share with you as well. Adam, thank you so much.
Take care. So there you go, Adam Nimoy on
(12:42):
Living the next chapter again. Create a podcast.
Just go start a podcast. You don't know where it's going
to lead you. When I started Living the Next
Chapter 3 plus years ago, 500 episodes ago, I didn't know that
I'd have time with Adam Nimoy. You couldn't I?
I would have laughed at you if you told me that would have
(13:03):
happened in the future. No, there's no way.
I've had amazing, amazing guestson and it's not about star power
for the show, but it's just to show you that it's possible that
you can meet somebody that you admire that has been a big part
of your life and you get to sit down and have a conversation
(13:24):
with them. There's no way Adam would have
taken my call if I did not have a podcast and if you didn't have
a book to talk about and that opportunity.
So podcasts create opportunity to build community, to build
growth, to build connections andto have time with people that
you super admire. So if that doesn't get you to
(13:45):
think about starting a podcast, I don't know what would.
Living the Next chapter.com makesure you go over there again,
share it with anybody that wantsto be an author that is an
author. If you love reading, if you want
to fall in love with another author, go check it out 'cause
every episode we start by speaking to the authors that
(14:06):
listen to the show, that tip something that you learned as an
author, how you can help an author listening and then we
move over to the readers. It is a reader focused podcast
because we want you to listen tothese authors, make a connection
and go fall in love with them and support them by buying their
books. And as we say at the end of most
of our episodes, when you buy a book from any author, make sure
(14:30):
you leave an amazing review telling them how much you love
their book 'cause it helps otherpeople make a decision if this
is the right book for them. So leave a detailed review of
every author you buy a book from.
And in that same vein, if you want to leave a, a review for
the the How to Podcast series, again, I would appreciate it
(14:54):
because it speaks to the people who are looking at the show
going so many podcasts about podcasting.
I don't know your review could help the show grow.
So thank you for that. Thanks for listening.
A lot of great more episodes coming up here on the podcast
for November, but go check out living in the next chapter.
And again, thanks for listening. So I love being a podcaster.
(15:17):
I love meeting these great people and I love the fact that
you press play on this episode and that you're still here.
That tells me that there's something here for you.
And if you're like Dave, I want to be, I want to be part of
this. I want to be part of this
community and I want to spend some time with you.
There's a link in the show notesjust for you.
(15:38):
You and I can get together and chat about your podcast, answer
any questions you have. And the most important thing is
we get to meet each other. So if you feel like you've been
podcasting alone, you should never podcast alone.
You should podcast in a group. We have a community just for you
and I, Dave, would love to be part of your community.
(15:59):
