Individual vs. Organization
Tom Henry, Certified Barrett Values Consultant, DDI Success Profiles accredited, executive coach, and organizational development leader, speaks to conscious leadership and the empirical evidence that proves value in the shift to a human first culture. A former executive at Whole Foods, Tom shares the effect Jeff Bezos had on raising the company’s minimum wage to $15/hr. by simply stating it as the new normal. Overnight, the company figured out a way to change employee pay while continuing to make more money the following year: a brilliant example of the superfluous red tape that becomes a cornerstone to any real type of change.
Tom discusses the importance of a human first organization while sharing facts and examples. He discusses the connection from individual to organization and shares the building blocks to gain buy-in and commitment in culture change citing Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs. He defines collective consciousness and provides tools for conscious leadership, stating that, “(…) companies don’t change, leaders change (…).” Tom takes the conversation to a high level by sharing conceptual thoughts and ideas yet brings everything back together with examples of practical application and tools for individuals and organizations to refocus on a higher purpose.
