Pornography is pervasive, addictive, and has become a normal part of our society and our lives. It is everywhere in its various forms. Pornography has become a global pandemic in its own right and has devastating effects on families, marriages, and our personal lives.
Shame is the foundation for any addiction, including pornography. When we are shamed, we are made to feel that we are "the mistake" instead of "I've made a mistake". Pornography creates a shortcut in our relationships to not have to work at the connection we have with our partner. Pornography is elusive and attractive in a way that we don't have to take it on a date, spend money or energy on it, and it never turns you down. It has become a substitute for connection in our relationships.
