Speaker 1 (00:00):
That's impossible.

Speaker 2 (00:01):
Let me tell you what I believe.

Speaker 3 (00:03):
It's your weakness, it's not your technique.

Speaker 1 (00:08):
Don't think you know.

Speaker 3 (00:12):
The Impossible Life Podcast and yes, sitting on a winning lottery. Second,
an idea that is fully formed, fully understood, that sticks.

Speaker 2 (00:22):
This is the Impossible Life Podcast because Nick and I
are attempting to live impossible lives. What we know is
that nothing is impossible. So instead of using impossible as
an excuse to not try, we'll use the pursuit of
impossible as an accelerant for greatness. If something's never been
done before, that just means it's unexplored. If they tell

(00:46):
you it's too hard, it's just waiting to be simplified.
Impossible as a default label used by uncourageous people unwilling
to take a risk.

Speaker 1 (00:56):
The real truth is this.

Speaker 2 (00:58):
The solution to any impossible task starts with this question,
if I had to, what would it take? Would it take?

Speaker 3 (01:08):
Welcome to another episode of the Impossible Life Podcast. I'm
your co host, Nick Surface, and I'm looking across as
a man who is only triggered by three things. Bad math,
unsided weapons, and weak minds. That's right, friends, Garret Uncle back,
a man who has the temperament of a well built
block of C four.

Speaker 2 (01:29):
I almost got triggered when you said three things, like
that's a lot of things, and then they were all right, yeah,
I know you.

Speaker 1 (01:37):
Now you know what else?

Speaker 3 (01:38):
I know? G. If you're listening to us and you're going, man,
these guys audio quality is crispy, you're right, uh G
and I it only took us four years. Yeah, four
years to upgrade. Nick came over to my house. He's like,
we got like, these are the best Mike three podcast
and I.

Speaker 1 (01:55):
Was pretty pompico.

Speaker 2 (01:57):
I was like, oh, man, like, how much were they
I was expect acting a big number, since we have
plenty of dollars, and you know, it's like four years in.
It must have we must have been waiting a long
time to buy these really great mics because they were so.

Speaker 1 (02:11):
We're faithful stewards.

Speaker 3 (02:12):
We put everything we get back into the podcast and
so we have not been wasteful. But I will say
that we probably could have had these podcasts mics maybe
two years ago, like to be putting it lightly, so, yeah,
that one's on me.

Speaker 1 (02:24):
But we're pretty better. We're even better. We waited. We
know what it is like now. But we're excited. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (02:28):
So anyways, that's one of those little things that's kind
of a nerdy enjoyment for us. And I'm listening to
my headphones and I gotta say, I am just smiling.
So today's episode GEE is on mindset selection.

Speaker 1 (02:41):
Well, wouldn't that.

Speaker 3 (02:41):
Be great if you could just go through like in
the video game do Elite mindset insert patch. You know,
we're all in the matrix, but you're not, but actually
you do have a choice.

Speaker 2 (02:51):
Yeah, that may Maybe the prerequisite for today is the
belief that you can choose a mindset.

Speaker 3 (02:58):
Well and g fortunately we do have that prerequisite belief
and lots of examples. So here's what we're gonna do.
We're gonna show you what this is. We're going to
show you how story and perspective forms, and then we're
gonna tell you some areas where you are suffering in
your perspective, very very common areas where a lot of
people suffer in their perspective. It's gonna be a doozy
for a shortcast. So I was Garrett, we were texting
super early this morning and we were this is when

(03:21):
you were talking to me about something, So we caught
up on all this and I was like, man, this
is great. So I mentioned recently that my twelve year
old is a ball of joy, and she is. She's amazing.
She's a great leader. I'm so proud of my daughter.
And she's been going through some things as a you know,
twelve year old almost thirteen, with hormones and you know,
learning that life is not just about fun anymore.

Speaker 2 (03:40):
Praise the Lord.

Speaker 1 (03:41):
Yeah, it's fun times. So she came home. I always
say like, hey, how is your day at school?

Speaker 3 (03:46):
And she was just like ugh, like immediately, and I
was like okay, Like I once I see that, I'm
like okay, Like I need to get into the right
mode for this.

Speaker 1 (03:54):
So she's telling me about her day. She's like, it
was not a good day. I was like, well, what happened?

Speaker 3 (03:59):
There was nothing that happened that like got me excited
to be there. My art teacher wasn't there, and like
that was the one class I loved doing the work for.
And then this got canceled and we had a substitute
teacher over here, and like and it's just and then
my friend was sick and she's going through.

Speaker 2 (04:13):
This and so they were out of my favorite syrup
right Starbucks.

Speaker 3 (04:17):
I mean it wasn't okay, Like, yeah, it's not that bad,
but it's I mean, still, she's twelve, and here's the
surest thing for her. That's a rough day. She's not
learned internal locus of control. And I've not put that
term on her just quite yet because she's twelve. But
we do talk about what you focus on all the time.
And so I immediately said back to our I said, hey, well,
how's your room, how's your house, how's your multiple pets,

(04:38):
the safe neighborhood we live in, you know, the food
you have to eat, the air conditioning, your sadin And
like I didn't do it in a smug punk way,
but like we both talked about the same different thing
because I said to us, like, isn't it great though,
that you have a school that you can walk to,
that you can sit with your friends in class, and
that they were all there, That you have air conditioning,
you don't have to worry about being unsafe in there,
there's no metal detect. Like I start pointing out the

(04:58):
exact same events you got to go to school. There's
lots of people around the world who don't even get
an education. Now you might think, oh, you're just being
that annoying guy. It's the exact same events. Literally we
talked about the same day. I put my focus and
I put what's important on way different things, and we
do this all the time. Like you may be going, oh,
that's great for your twelve year old Yeah, we get it. Well, Unfortunately,

(05:20):
there's a lot of mental twelve year old adults, and
we have some big kids who have grown up and
become adults, and we've never learned that we have to
take hold of those stories and perspectives. And why Because
I want to live a grateful life. Gee, I've found
that gratitude. When I was depressed, it was the only
thing that shifted me out automatically. As I've grown and
we've had people like doctor Robbie on and I've done

(05:40):
more reading, I realized how powerful that is for rewiring
your brain.

Speaker 1 (05:44):
Then Jesus comes in and saves my.

Speaker 3 (05:46):
Life and I start reading through scripture about how important
is to give Thanksgiving.

Speaker 2 (05:49):
I don't feel like there's any better evidence, at least
that I can think of right now for mindset selection
than the picture you sent me this morning. Oh man,
you know, I didn't even think you're going to bring
it up. Yeah, I got woken up at two thirty
in this morning by like literally I really believe it
was God because like I had just stuff on my
mind that was very not like I wasn't like, oh

(06:10):
I got work. I was just like I was like
worship song, which is pretty normal, but just very specific things.
I felt like God brought me into my phone and
I went back for whatever reason, Oh, I was looking
for pictures of me from the first camping trip.

Speaker 3 (06:22):
Yeah, why would I think that? Like I never think
about it. Yeah, as Garrett likes to affectionately call me.
And so I went back and I found old pictures
of me from twenty twenty and I sent g a
text of a picture of me when I with my
shirt off. It was not covered in any sort of glory.
And it was when I first decided, like, hey, I
need to start making some changes to myself. And I
text him, I said, this is the guy who started

(06:43):
the podcast with nothing else, but it is a man.
I was the whole point of that is I came.
I just started like overflowing in gratitude to God because
I look at my life and how much it is
transformed and there's literally there's no part of me like
am I proud of like my marriage and my kids. Yes,
but like I don't look at what's happened to me
and go like, well, thank God I decided to do this.
I go, oh, Lord, you pulled me out of the

(07:04):
pit because I know where my mindset was at, I
know what I was doing, and you broke into my life.
It is truly a story of grace, and it is
very I don't feel anything but humbled to do whatever
God has me to do.

Speaker 1 (07:13):
For the rest of my life.

Speaker 3 (07:14):
So when I look at those old pictures and I
look at things now, and I was saying to a neighbor, like,
I look at my life now, and everything that I
used to think I would want to make me so
happy is what I have in my life. But I'm
not attached to it at all. I look at it
and I just go, Man, God, thank you for blessing me.
I just look at it as like a picture of
his grace. So I was just overflowing in thanksgiving this
morning about it, and I just so happened to text

(07:35):
to my friend Garrett, so gee, talk us through mindset.

Speaker 2 (07:37):
Selection you You you know, I can't take I take
a piece of credit, right. I played my part, you did,
for sure. But the beginning is you made a choice. Yeah,
and the choice was like you know, just like you
with Project forty and you wanted to change your body.
You just saying like, hey, you know what I need.
I want to make some changes. I'm not happy with
where I'm at. And what coincided in that time was

(08:00):
you and I coming together and me changing the way
that you think, bringing you some different mindsets. Yeah, and
so like hopefully you're catching this part. You know you
sent me the review. Shout out to our friend Chris Pragovic.

Speaker 1 (08:12):
I saw your review.

Speaker 2 (08:13):
Thank you. I appreciate all of your kind words, and
I love getting to see you grow and transform and transform.
And this podcast just gets to play it's part. Yeah,
but what would happen to your life if you got
the right mindset? Right? All it takes is in the
right moment, you get the right mindset, and everything in
your life can change. That really is the power of

(08:36):
a mindset. It's what the Bible says, as a man
thinketh so is he?

Speaker 1 (08:40):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (08:40):
And it's not as a man thought right. As a
man thinketh right, and your thinketh is your mindset. It's
not a thought you had one time, it's not what
you heard one time. But the mindset. It's the foundation
of your thinking. And as a man thinketh so is he.
And when your mindset will change, your life will change.

Speaker 3 (08:57):
Right.

Speaker 2 (08:57):
It just doesn't happen all at once. It takes time,
takes four years, right, and there's been some great little
glimpses along the way. But I look at where nick
My life's changed too. We're just talking about Nick for
a second. I look at where life's Nick's life is
today versus where it was four years ago, and much
has changed because much of Nick's mindset has changed a
lot of people they get there, they select their mindsets

(09:19):
based upon their circumstances. Right, this is this is your
story of hope. Right, stuff happened and that that's that's
my thought pattern. Yeah, I'm thinking about what has happened
to me. A lot of people will select their mindset
based upon the way they want to feel. Yeah, big time, Right,
how do I deal with my situation? I'm gonna I'm
gonna select a mindset. I'm gonna have a thought pattern,

(09:41):
a belief pattern, the information, the knowledge. What I do
with it is going to be based upon I'd like
to feel better. I'd like to not be judged. I
don't want to go through pain. I don't want to
feel what I'm feeling right now. So I'm gonna think
in a way which when really like if if when
you're avoiding pain, you'll actually get into the worst type
of loop right when you you're seeking comfort, You'll never

(10:02):
be able to find it. It's the dichotomy of the
life that God has given us. He who seeks to
gain his life will lose it. If you want to
be comfortable, you'll become miserable right where where Truly when
you decide, you know, I'm willing to overcome whatever life
gets easy for you.

Speaker 3 (10:17):
Yeah, I mean, so you said that people select their
mindset based on security and peace at aka comfort and ease,
When what you need to do is you need to
select your mindset based on where do you want to
go and what do you want to accomplish?

Speaker 1 (10:29):
Very very different.

Speaker 2 (10:31):
People will give you their mindsets all the time. Yeah,
that's that's what That's kind of the the inception of
today's episode was someone tried to give me their mindset,
and there's there's one That's truly. The thing that triggers
me is people will give me a mindset and that's
it's the thing that I just makes my spirit vomit. Right,
I will reject a mindset so fast because I I

(10:53):
don't know. It's just the way that I am. I
think about a mindset and where it'll take me. Yeah,
And people are so quick to to give you the
foundation of their thinking, and you see where it goes.
And what pushes me to select the mindsets I have
in my life is not I don't know what's going
to happen, but I know where I want to go
in my life, right, and I know I want greatness.

(11:15):
I know I want everything that God has for me.
I know I want to die in here well done,
good and faithful servant. I know I want to die
with nothing left in the tank that I want to
spend my life Correctly, I can talk on and on
about where I want to go. Thus I have to
think in accordance with that. Right, I knew I wanted
to join seal training, and so I could have had
a mindset of man, this is the hardest military trade

(11:37):
in the world. Or I could have had a mindset
that said this is possible. It's the foundation of this podcast,
The Impossible Life. If I had to what would it take?
How would I And another way of saying that, a
longer way of saying is what would I have to
think about? What would my mindset have to be to
go where I want to go? And this is how
you should select a mindset because and we'll talk about

(11:58):
what a mindset is and what pieces you need for
But I just want to start off, and if you
catch nothing else from this episode, understand there should only
be one thing influencing your mindset. Who do you want
to be? Where do you want to go? Like proverb says,
as a man thinketh so is he well, who do
you want to be? Think?

Speaker 3 (12:15):
In accordance with that, Yeah, And I mean that alone
would change your life.

Speaker 1 (12:18):
And so I mean you talked about this.

Speaker 3 (12:20):
You said, what story you want to tell will determine
what facts get priority, because like the difference between facts
and stories, that facts are objective whereas story is subjective.

Speaker 2 (12:29):
Before we go on, I just want to hit one
more piece on mindset. And really, this assumption, right, this
is a big assumption. Right. What I'm what I'm asking
people to do is say think about where you want
to go and take the mindset that'll get you there, right, Okay,
get on the train that's gone where you want to go,
Get on the plane that's gone where you want to go.
There's a really big assumption that goes with that, and

(12:51):
that's that you're willing to pay the price that it
takes to get on that train, that it takes to
get on that flight. Right. Because the mindset that got
me through seal training of I can you know the
infinite potential unlock for my life. God is a plan
and I can do anything and I can accomplish anything
whatever is in front of me if I'm willing to

(13:12):
pay that price. That's the big assumption here, that you
would be willing to pay the price. And a lot
of people will back away from certain mindsets because of
the price and what I would caution you against. Right.
And there's a reason that God doesn't tell you the
whole plan of your life because if he told you
how hard it was going to be, you wouldn't do

(13:32):
yeah for sure, okay, And so don't select a mindset
that way. Either. A lot of people price shop their mindset. Well,
if I think that way, that means I have to
take ownership of my life. That means I have to
take ownership of my marriage. If I think that way,
that means like I got to get out and work out.
If I think that way, that means I need to
be a better steward of where I'm at. Because what

(13:53):
you're saying is I could make my situation better. And
so a lot of people will back away from that.
They choose a mind and set that it makes them
feel better about themselves, that makes them feel more comfortable,
instead of choosing the mindset that takes him where they
want to go. And so again we'll jump into this further,
but just understand what I'm challenging you to do is
a big challenge that you would select a mindset based

(14:14):
upon where you want to go and be willing to
pay whatever the price is that comes along with that mindset,
because because mindsets are not free.

Speaker 3 (14:22):
Yeah, and this is such a good follow up episode
following the one we released on Monday about how God
wants more for you. Yeah, because for a lot of people,
they won't pay the price because they don't they're like
why are you doing that?

Speaker 2 (14:33):
Right?

Speaker 3 (14:33):
Like why would I do that? Because they don't see anything.
When you see something, it sticks with you. And when
you have a true belief that God wants more for
your life and that He's got great plans for you,
there's a requirement to that. Now here's the thing that
people don't realize. There's also a price for just taking
the comfort knees route. The difference is that you don't
really know what that price is and you end up
paying it your entire life unknowingly. So you're basically you've

(14:55):
got a hole in your pocket and you're like, oh, well,
you know this is easy.

Speaker 1 (14:57):
How do you know? How do you know what the
other way was? Because, man, I'll tell you what.

Speaker 3 (15:01):
When you see that person the top of the mountain,
they look pretty good, but you skip the climb, so
you never got to see it. So there's a price
to both. But going back to a g So what
story I want to tell the terms what facts get priority?
And you kind of touched on this with Buds. You
said that, you know, we said, I'm gonna repeat it
again that facts are objective, meaning you know, if a
guy goes to bat and he hits three thirty three,
no one's going like, no, I think it was five hundred.

(15:23):
The numbers are there that data. Yeah, data is objective, right,
and facts are objective. Story is subjective.

Speaker 2 (15:30):
And the way the way that I like to talk
about story is story is a set of facts and
the order and priority that you give to facts. Yeah, okay.
The facts were about seal training. Was that about fifteen
percent of candidates make it. Right, that's a fact. I
don't know what the actual number is, but it's a fact.
That's a you know, it's an approximate fact. Right, Those
are facts I could have focused on, like, man, eighty

(15:54):
five percent of candidates don't or fifteen percent of candidates do.
I gave priority to that, like, oh, that many people
make it? What gave me perspective on that, which helped
influence the facts. So I thought about Sir Edmund Hillary
climbing Mount Everest. He did something when it was hundreds
of people have tried, zero have made it. Everyone who's

(16:16):
attempted this has died, and he said, you know what, well,
today's the days I'm gonna be the guy, right right?
That that's crazy, right, So when people were telling me
like you're crazy, like what makes you think that you
could be a Navy seal? I was like, I don't
know five thousand other dudes that have already become Navy seals,
right right, like he was. You know, it was crazy,
Edmund Hillary was right.

Speaker 3 (16:36):
Yeah, but you know what most people would have said,
they said, yeah, okay, five thousand, made about how many
tried like one hundred thousand or like you know, or
even more, dude, do you have any same facts, different
different priority and so you got a completely different story
and you have tried it.

Speaker 2 (16:50):
So well, so what story do you want to tell?
I had what facts that I need to focus on? Yeah,
And it's not ignoring I was not saying I wasn't
saying like, well I'll just you know, I'll be lucky.
That's delusion. I wasn't being delusional, but I was saying
it's possible, and then understanding that just like Edmund, Hillary
had to pay a price to climb Mount Everest and

(17:11):
the fifteen percent who do make it had to pay
a price, I'm willing to pay that price and I
know that I can, right.

Speaker 3 (17:17):
And I mean you said that delusion is whenever you
ignore facts to make you feel good, and like you know,
if you had just been like, hey, I'm just going
to show up and just you know, let the chips
fall where they can cause like you didn't want to
train or whatever it may be.

Speaker 2 (17:29):
I mean, and that's where I don't want this to
sound like delusion. It's like, well, just focus on whatever
fact she's the positive.

Speaker 1 (17:36):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (17:36):
Right, that's like saying, well, I'm a focus on the
fact that I got twenty inch arms and not focus
on the fact that I got you know, a thirty
four BMI I got you, I got big arms. They're
just not made out of muscle. Right, that's a level
of delusion. Delusion is ignoring certain facts. Right. What I
did was I can you have to consider and weigh

(17:57):
all the facts. Delusion will end you up dead. Delusion
will end you up broke. Delusion will put you in
a place where you end up on your back because
you know you're a boxer who can't hold his hands up.

Speaker 3 (18:09):
Right.

Speaker 2 (18:09):
You're saying, oh, nobody's going to swing back at me, right, right,
I'm not saying that's what this is. Selecting your mindset
is saying, look, I know I'm going to get hit,
but here's how I'm going to respond to it. I'm
willing to pay the price. I'm willing to get punched
in the mouth and push forward after that, not saying like,
oh no, no one's ever going to hit me. I'm
too hard to hit. Yeah, for sure.

Speaker 3 (18:31):
And so I want to give a quick example and
then we'll go into the practical examples for people in
their life that the twelve spies that went into Canaan
to the Promised Land are like the perfect example of
going in and seeing the exact same thing, but giving
a different priority based on where they had their trust
right and based on their beliefs. The ten that came back,

(18:52):
they came back and they said, they said, hey, we
can't attack those people.

Speaker 1 (18:55):
They're stronger than we are.

Speaker 3 (18:56):
This is number thirteen thirty one, and they spread among
these are all it's a bad report about the land
they explored. They said, the land we explore devours those
living in it. All the people we saw are of
great size. We saw the Nephelum. We seem like grasshoppers
in our own eyes, catcher that in our own eyes,
and we look the same to them. You know, history
does not a scripture does not record any time that

(19:17):
they actually spoke to the people there. But yet here
they are speaking for them. Interesting so this isn't even
just the facts. This is the facts and then getting
carried away with the story. Now, contrast that with this stuff.

Speaker 2 (19:29):
It's a fear mindset, right, a fear perspective of look,
look how big they.

Speaker 3 (19:34):
Are, right, because they I think they went in with
a wait and see approach. Let's just see, you know,
hopefully it's not too hard, like they were not doing it,
selecting a mindset to become who God created them to be,
because I you know, I got to think they've had slaves,
and they've been slaves for four hundred years, and I
want you to really think about that, because I think
it's easy to be like, oh, those stupid Israelites. Imagine
like you're like, my.

Speaker 2 (19:54):
Grandfather's slave of America is only two hundred fifty years a.

Speaker 3 (19:57):
Right, and imagine if everybody that ever lived in America
is a slave, and that will give you and.

Speaker 2 (20:01):
Then multah plus one hundred and fifty years.

Speaker 3 (20:03):
Yeah, now you're starting to get an idea of what
kind of stories and culture do you think they think about?

Speaker 2 (20:07):
How much the history of this nation is still alive today?
Oh yeah, right, Like, yeah, this country was started by
a bunch of patriots who said, no one's going to
tell us how to live our lives. Yeah, and look
who America still is today.

Speaker 1 (20:18):
I agree with you.

Speaker 3 (20:19):
And you know, it's even more interesting, well, very interesting.
You even see the reverberations of like, what did California
start as a gold rush? What is California still very
much a place where people go out to seek to
make it? Like people have their dreams right and like,
so you see these reverberations through history of mindsets in areas.

Speaker 1 (20:34):
It's very interesting.

Speaker 3 (20:35):
So going back to Joshua and Caleb, so they come
back and they say the land we passed there and
explored is exceedingly good, which is what the first guy
said as well. But the difference is right here. If
the Lord is pleased with us, he will lead us
into that land, a landflown with milk and honey, and
we'll give it to us. Only don't rebel against the Lord,
and don't be afraid of the people of the land,
because we will devour them. Their protection is gone, but

(20:57):
the Lord is with us. Do not be afraid of them.
The other guys put the emphasis in their story on
the problems. Caleb and Joshua put the emphasis on who
was with them. Yeah, and that was and so they
had a completely there's some big.

Speaker 2 (21:08):
Dudes there, but surely we can take it. Yeah, for
God is with us. Yeah, massive, same facts, different stories, right, right,
And and part of what's influenced in their story is
of course their faith in God and also what they
say it here they put emphasis on like, hey, man,
this place looks pretty nice. Yeah. Yeah, and Caleb Joshua like,
I'd like to live there, right, this seems a lot

(21:29):
better than where we're at. Yeah, how should I you know,
how should I stand? What should I think about? Where
should I put my trust in so that I can
move into this place? Right? Do you want a mindset
that'll keep you in the desert or do you want
a mindset that's going to move you into the promised land?

Speaker 1 (21:40):
Right?

Speaker 2 (21:41):
It's determined on where you put your trust, and it's
determined on what facts you focus on.

Speaker 3 (21:45):
Yeah, And no one ever says, hey, I'd like to
be one of the ten. That would be awesome. But
you know, what we're kind of we've touched on, but
I want to highlight it. What did Joshua do all
the time he sat in the tent of the Lord
and the presence of God. It says that Caleb was
of a different spirit, like these men knew God. So
like this is not like mindset selection. Don't need you today, God,
I've got awesome sauce on the brain. It's like when
you press into God's why I said that, Like Monday's

(22:06):
episode is such a good precursor this because you should
be awakened that the design for more in your life
is not your American dream. It's God's design for you
to grow and to go out and to be all
He made you to be. When you capture that, suddenly
you're gonna go oh man, like focusing on all my problems,
focusing on all the negative, Like, that's not the mindset
that God wants me to have. That's not a transformed
and renewed mind. A renewed mind sees his good, perfect

(22:27):
and pleasing will right, It lays my desires on the
alter and sees where God's working in my life. And
now I'm like, you know what it's like Elishah on
the hill. Lord opened his eyes so that he can
see that, you know, see what I see. And suddenly
he sees all those flaming chariots and realizes, oh, there's
far more of us than all of them.

Speaker 1 (22:42):
Such a great story.

Speaker 2 (22:43):
So again, as a man thinketh so is he?

Speaker 1 (22:46):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (22:46):
Seneca said, most people suffer more in their minds than
in reality. So good, okay, and so okay, So understand
what this means. That means there's a difference between what
you're thinking about and what reality is. Yes, and you
can do you can turn the dial on that you
can make your mind, what's happening in your mind worse

(23:07):
than in reality. And if that's possible, is it not
also possible that you could turn the dial the other way?
That reality could could feel so bad? Yet you could
James Chapter one, consider it joy. Yeah, when you're going
through terrible times, saying like this is an opportunity for
me to grow. It's a mindset of saying, God, I
want all that you have for me. God, I want maturities.

(23:29):
I want to run my race. So how do I
need to think about my current situation. I'm not going
to let circumstances determine my thinking. I'm going to let
thinking determine my future.

Speaker 1 (23:38):
Yeah, so good.

Speaker 3 (23:38):
So here's some areas common areas where people are suffering
in their minds more than reality. And ge I'll go
first because I had this this morning. I literally took
holdness tiredness. So when you wake up at two thirty
in the morning and truthfully, like my whoop says, I'm
a sixty seven percent, I actually feel pretty great. Thanks
to idy life. I still got three hours restorative sleep,
thank you sleep strips. But like I was, you know
when you first wake up and you realize, oh man

(24:00):
and be up, there's this natural kind of like right
like because you're like, oh man, I shouldn't. So I
literally got I don't ever get out of bed until
four am. That's like my So I was reading my
Bible in bed, get out, I go in and I
just sat down there. I remember something in my mind shifted.
I was like, you know what, I'm not going to
have this, Like I'm not going to have this like oh,
today's gonna be a tough day, like I'm probably gonna
be flagging in the afternoon because those I could feel

(24:21):
that coming on me. I was like, no way. I
was like, today is a day that has that's full
of purpose. And I thought to myself, I was like,
you know what, I've got one of my best friends
and business partners they just had a baby, they're going
through cluster feeding. Guess what he would do for I
got five hours and fifteen minutes to sleep. Guess what
he would do for five hours and fifty minutes to sleep.
What would you have done in hell week with five
hours and fifty minutes to sleep? This is what I
started saying to myself. And I was like, I'm going

(24:43):
to have a great day. I was like, I'm going
to fly through the day. I'm going to bring my
best to everything. I was like, cause I've got a
purpose in my life. I started reminding myself and I
started thinking how I wanted to show up. So suddenly
I'm like.

Speaker 2 (24:53):
What kind of day do I want to exactly that
It's not determined by how much I slept.

Speaker 3 (24:56):
Right.

Speaker 2 (24:57):
One of Pastor Keith's taught like I would I could
do a top ten leadershipologies, right because I know all
of his stuff. Yeah, And one of the top ten
leadership oologies for Pastor Keith is don't feel your way
into an action, act your way into a feeling. Yep,
don't let your feelings determine your actions. Act your way
into a feeling. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (25:17):
So you know what I did gee today it was
like they at the gym. I didn't have squats on
my workout plant recording mc broom, but I made sure
you do squats because I don't really love squats, and
I was like, you're gonna get your butt in there
and you're gonna do them. So I did, and it
was wonderful. Another place where people get this all the
time is.

Speaker 2 (25:30):
And again these are examples of where you could suffer
in your mind more than in reality, or you could
flip it around and instead let the There could be
suffering around you, but what's happening in your mind leads
to a better reality.

Speaker 1 (25:45):
Right.

Speaker 3 (25:45):
You know where people suffer all the time more in
their minds in reality. Speaking of this from experience is money, right,
because we have this story of like, oh man, I
can't stop thinking about this, and what it is is
you don't know what you would do if something happens
not the way you want it, and that bothers you.
You have not braced you've not been okay with the unknown,
and you've got your trust in the wrong place, so
you have anxiety. And if you start to sit there

(26:07):
and think, man, because like people go through this. I
remember you said to me like, hey, what would happen
if you ran out of money? You wouldn't die. It's
like your life goes bank account zero, you dropped dead
like that justin Timberlake movie from back in the day.
But a lot of people sure operate that way, right, Yeah,
and so I so what I've reminded myself of is
what's the mother of all invention? G? And it just
hang out with like some surfers who like their bank

(26:28):
account says minus seventeen and they're like, all right, waves
look pretty good. Yeah, might overdraft negative fifty. I can
still get a burrito. But the yeah, but what's the thought?
What's the mother of all invention? G? Necessity?

Speaker 1 (26:40):
That's right?

Speaker 3 (26:40):
And so like if you've ever so like, what would
you do? You know what you would do? You'd figure
it out because it's amazing. You know, what was gonna
happen whenever we had COVID everybody was gonna everyone was
gonna lose their job and like we were gonna be
in trouble.

Speaker 1 (26:52):
You know what happened.

Speaker 3 (26:53):
Everybody got a bunch of free money from the government
called PPP loans, and uh, you know, people start taking
out crazy loans at stupid interest. But but you know what,
we end up having an economic boom. Like if you
look at all the times and you look at some
of the greatest companies in the world, you're the one
that points out to me they've come from those tough times.
So why are you sitting there being afraid? Like prep
the best you can, trust in God and know that

(27:13):
if you get to a place where it is a
rock and a hard place and it's the toughest that
you're in and even if you're in there now, guess what,
there's something for you to learn. So what kind of
story do you need to tell?

Speaker 1 (27:22):
Man?

Speaker 3 (27:22):
I can't wait to figure this out, because you know
what happens when you get close to the edgeg you
never scared to go that close again, and you become
a fearless person because money loses its grip on you.

Speaker 1 (27:30):
As far as the fear.

Speaker 2 (27:31):
Goes, you know, as a man, thinketh so isy. But
also and the power and the tongue is the power
of life and death. And one of the things I
say all the time, I don't think a day goes
by like maybe I say this one time a day,
but there's plenty of times where I say it to
people four five times a day. I sign emails this way,
and I tell people the best is yet to come. Yeah,

(27:52):
this is yet to come. Yeah, that's what I believe
about my life, and it's what I speak over my
life all the time. Right, but so quickly like, oh, man,
I didn't get the didn't get the bonus, and I
had to buy a dishwasher this month, and blah blah blah.
Now I got I'm dipping into my savings and what
if this just keeps happening now? The best is yet
to come?

Speaker 1 (28:11):
Exactly right?

Speaker 2 (28:12):
What mindset do you need to have for your bank
account to grow? Not letting your bank account going down
this month turn into a negative mindset? Yeah, and people do.
Another great example is in your marriage. Right. One of
the things I've talked about on here before that I
took away from the Seal teams is this thought process
of dials not switches, right, learning as a man how

(28:35):
to not just be an honor off switch, but to
be a dial that you can crank the dial. And
a lot of men in their marriage you're like, man,
this is this ain't working. Not getting the results that
I want. My wife's not respecting me, my wife's not growing,
you know, whatever it is. And instead of focusing on
what's not happening, I just kind of redirect, man, I said,
you know, are you are you able to change yourself? Yeah?

(28:56):
You can change.

Speaker 1 (28:57):
Right.

Speaker 2 (28:58):
If you change, your marriage changes. Even if your wife
doesn't change, your marriage changes because you get better. And
are you able to influence your wife? Maybe just like
a little bit, can you turn the dial at all?
And so if you can do those two things, it
actually is possible for your marriage to get better. So
then you've got to just think, Okay, what's the mindset
that I need to have that I can continue to

(29:19):
grow my marriage. Maybe you just need to be a
little bit tougher. Maybe the reason the dial is stiff
for you is because you got soft hands. And it's
really not so much that your marriage is hard. It's
just you're maybe not as strong as you should be
as a man. And if you'll continue to grow and say,
you know what, this is possible, I can do it.
This is the mindset you need to have that your
marriage can grow and set again letting your situation determine

(29:41):
your mindset. Man, this is hard. And then you think
about all the ways that it's not good and you
actually make your marriage worse.

Speaker 3 (29:47):
Yeah, yeah, I mean there's some we could go into
that longer, and perhaps we should. Last area I wanted
to give examples of because this is a shortcast. After all,
is problems. So many people. For them, problems is like
their worst day and their best days when they have
zero problems. Here's a little something g you called the
service recovery paradox. Interesting enough, eighty three percent of customers
feel more loyal to brands that respond to and resolve

(30:09):
their complaints. Really think about that. So when you have
a problem, if you're in business, or if you're in
a problem that is not a that is an opportunity,
like disguised as a problem. That is a completely different mindset.
If you just want that to go away, if you're
just like, oh why is this happening?

Speaker 1 (30:23):
Oh look at this?

Speaker 3 (30:24):
Well hang on a minute, what would what mindset would
you have to go, Okay, there's a problem. It's highlighting
something here that I can take this and make it
a huge growth opportunity. What if these problems are actually
the work that God's given me for the rest of
my life. I'm made to do work, and this is
my work. We've said before, purpose means that these are
the problems you're going to solve for the rest of
your life. So if you start to have a different story,

(30:45):
it's like, well, man, I'm starting to step into some
purpose because if there was no problems, there would be
no work. Well there's some work. I'm gonna get after it.
And so like you may be thinking, oh, that sounds
really great, Well what's the alternative. Oh man, I can't
believe this happened. This broke and like, you know, then
this happened at my house, and then like I had
this thing happened with my truck, and then I got
this health I can't wait for this to be over, Okay, Like,

(31:08):
how's that working out for you? As far as what
you want in your life, you sound like you are
selecting comfort and ease for your story.

Speaker 2 (31:14):
It's a mindset of it is what it is right.
But instead I want you to have the mindset of
the best is yet to come. To decide to stop
letting fear and pain dictate your mindset, decide to stop
letting your circumstances tell you how to think, and instead
move yourself in a direction. You're saying you know, I
know what I want out of my life. I hope

(31:34):
if you're listening to this podcast for more than a
few episodes, you're starting to catch some energy, starting to
catch some rhythm in your life. You're starting to catch
some God and some Kingdom in your life and saying,
I know where I want my future to be. I

this is where I want to go with my life.
This is who I want to be, this is what
I want to become, and choose your thoughts in accordance
with that. Remember that as a man thinketh, so is he.
