And this un Ingles Tailgate Show isbrought to you by Ingles Markets, Low
Prices, Love the Savings, BlueRidge Electric Cooperative, Harley Davidson of Greenville,

(00:20):
Career Flooring Center, the Surgery Centerat Pelham, the Key Heating in
Air and Palm Meadow State Armory. Now Here are your hosts, John Ellis
and Richmond Weavers. Well, youknow, if you're going to have a
week off, Richmond Weaver, ifyou're going to take that by week and

(00:41):
get your team right, it's goodto get it after a big win.
The Clemson Tigers were able to dothat and Richmond we for journalists here on
the Ingles Tailgate Show, brought toyou by Ingles Market, Slow Prices,
Love the Savings, Life from CamperdownPlaza, having a great time. We
are back. We are ready totalk college football. Richmond Weaver, how
are you, my friend? Welcomeback into the show. It is absolutely

(01:03):
fantastic to be here and knowing thatwe are in a beautiful downtown setting here
Camperdown Plaza downtown Greenville. Absolutely pictureperfect day and what a great opportunity to
talk college football. Yeah, we'sgot a lot to talk about. And
it seems like it was six weeksago that we had our last broadcast on

(01:26):
week like it. Bye week seemslike forever it does the world of college
football, especially now we're looking atweek eight into college football, and I
know we're looking into a record offour and two for the Clemson Tigers,
and I know from a standpoint, this whole Week zero that throws everybody off.
I hate Week zero. Yes,I like it. I like early
games. I just wish you wouldcall it like a called week half one

(01:46):
half, just put a half besideit. Hey, we're back, full
steam ahead, no half effort hereand we are live from Camperdown Plaza right
there beside group therapy. We've gotthe tense set up. We've got a
lot of people out here walking around. I see some Tennessee volunteers, fans
out here versus Alabama coming up thirtyminutes. I mean, this is a
great time also to be doing thebroadcast. I love these three pm broadcast

(02:09):
shows we do in the eight pmkickoffs, of course, tonight hard Rock
Stadium, Clemson in Miami. That'sthe main course. But it's so much
fun when we do these since twentytwenty now to be able to sort of
weave back and forth and through thescoreboard and you see games like Oklahoma right
now that will update later get alittle interesting there. Of course, the
main course, as I said today, it's all about the Clemson Tigers.

(02:30):
Coming up at three fifteen. WillVan Dervoard joins us as he does every
week, and inside look, andhe's got some definite thoughts. I heard
his podcast Rich this week with LebronKirkland. Oh yeah, as they're given
out mid season grades, and wemight take a stab at that today if
we've got a little bit of time. But they were really hard on the
offense, and these guys I thinkknow the game well and I want to

(02:51):
get to that with you as wellas Don Munson, who's gonna go behind
the mic with us here coming upat four point thirty in advance of his
play by play call with Tim Bereyand Reggie Merriweather. But let's start with
the offense. Look, the gamewas a you know, slug fest.
Let's just face it, Dabo Sweeney, we'll get to his comments also during
the week about the one point fivepercent, and you know, I've got

(03:12):
some thoughts on that. But gettinga win is so important to this team.
If they had lost that game andhad a bad offensive game, then
the message boards would have blown upinto the atmosphere. At least you get
the win, you go into thebye week. But they do have some
things to clean up, more turnovers, one on special teams, one on
offense, and once again club nickup and down, offensive line up and
down. Just some growing pains forthis team right now. Well, I

(03:36):
think it's one of those things. When you look at the Clemson offense.
What we're used to is big explosiveplays from the Tigers, and more so
now we're seeing still consistency from theoffense in terms of production getting down the
field, but it's much more methodicaland it's utilizing the run game. And
not that Clemson wasn't able to usea run game back in the day or

(03:57):
several years ago when you had TravisEtn, you had Wayne Gomman, when
you had those type of running backs. But you have will Shipley in film
offer right now, and even kidKlebnik, he can utilize his legs in
opportune times. And I think we'restarting to see the maturation process of Kate
being able to understand when he canuse his legs and when he shouldn't.
But I think the big part whatClemson fans are not seeing and what we're

(04:21):
used to seeing are the big explosiveplay and that's been the big downside to
the Clemson offense. And one ofthe things that it's the easiest thing for
fans to pinpoint and to focus onand to emphasize because you don't see those
and we used to see that. And it's one thing to have a ten

(04:41):
yard I mean a ten play seventyyard drive, and then it's frustrating if
you don't get points out of itor you only settle for three points.
And that's the big difference for Clemsony if you, in Duke's case,
you fumble in the side the fiveand turnovers, and we know that not
all turnovers are created egoing around. It's those turnovers that le directly to a
scoop and score alla Florida State game, all a Duke game where they were

(05:04):
able to run it back and youknow, just from a perspective of almost
being able to score a touchdown there. And the big thing that I think
just from the perspective of the offenseis that you also have to remember Kate
Klubnick is coming into his own he'sprogressing. This is his first year as

(05:24):
a true starter. And also yougot pardon the mess, a minor technical
glitch, but hey, it's afootball Saturday. These things happen. You

(05:44):
work through it. The Ingles TailgateShow is live from Camperdown Plaza. It's
brought to you by Ingles Low Prices, Love the Savings. Richard Weaver is
with me here. I'm John Ellis. We've got a lot coming up.
In about eight minutes or so.Will Vandervort's going to jump on the line
from the Clemson Insider as rich wastalking about, the defense has been front
and center carrying this team. Andlook, it's no slight on the offense.
They still ran for forty two carries. I think it was two hundred

(06:06):
and seven yards in this game.I think one hundred and sixty of that
was in the second half or so. Bo Collins had some nice plays,
but again, you're not seeing theexplosion in this game from Tyler Brown as
you saw maybe against Syracuse. Ithought Coach Swiney again will go into the
comments in more detail because they wereto me entertaining and kind of enlightening.
But he was right about one thing. It's hard to win in this league.

(06:28):
So when you're a team that's usedto winning, Okay, DeShawn Watson
and then you've got Trevor Lawrence andthen oh, Kelly Bryant, that's a
down year, and you still getyourself in a position where you can compete
for a championship and then dju,you still have a shot there. It's
just part of the process. Yougo through these evan flows in a program.
But defensively, you're exactly right.Jeremiah Trotter Junior had seven tackles.

(06:49):
R. J. Mickens nine tackles, and the team as a whole.
You talk about whenever get Playwake Forest, it's the slow mesh. And it's
whether it's Rent Vnables, whether it'syou know, coach Goodwin. They always
have an answer. They just getright to it. They don't waste time.
They crash on in on it well. And one of the things that
we saw from that game is itdid turn into a slug fest and at

(07:10):
the end of the day. Iknow we're wanting to see Clemson dominate in
all facets of the game and beable to put up forty seven points against
an inferior opponent. But Wake Forestis still a decent team now record wise,
you're looking at them saying, well, wait a second, no,
wake Forest is not as good asthey have been in the past. Yes,
and that's probably accurate, but youcould say the same thing with Clemson,

(07:32):
and it goes back to what we'vetalked about from an offensive standpoint,
just not as explosive and those turnoversand just sloppy play. And I think
that's leading to the frustration right now. But you've had now the bye week
to put all of that aside, right to keep forgetting where they just set
that, you know, back tothe back burner. And then now the
windshield mentality as Dabosweeney always talks about, and being able to focus on best

(07:58):
as the standard. And I knowthat's what's question right now. What is
the best is standard? What's thatdefinition? And I think a lot of
Clemson fans are getting frustrated that ata position right now, you're sitting at
four and two, we still havethe season ahead of you really do now.
Obviously it's not what Clemson fans hadtalked about in terms of what the

(08:22):
expectations were, what they were thinkingwas possible this year heading into the season.
And I do believe that we putway too much emphasis on the first
game. And I'm not just talkingabout Clemson fans. I'm talking about sports
fans, college football fans, NFLfans, college basketball on any level,

(08:43):
but especially when you have a smallnumber of games in a season like college
football, that it's easy to manufacturenarratives based off the first game. And
we do it every single season, and we have to be careful, even
though we tell ourselves, okay,do not make conclusions off the first game.

(09:03):
We do whole segments about those whomake conclusions, and we make conclusions
about those who make conclusions. Wedo it all the time. You can
make some observations off the first game, just don't make a conclusion off the
first game. And the narrative waswritten for Clemson after that Duke game.
And I think it's interesting when youlook at this Miami team. The narrative

(09:24):
has been written now for Miami basedon the Georgia Tech game knee and the
collapse, the debacle that they hadinexplicable. Yes, it is inexplicable,
But the narrative has been set nowfor Miami that Mario Cristobal he's not a
good coach. He can't lead theHurricanes to victories. And I think that's

(09:46):
where we stand right now. Soit's interesting that both teams based off of
one game, because if Clemson winsthat Duke game, it's a different narrative
right now, because that's a toughloss to against Laida State, Florida State,
like you mentioned it in overtime,a slugfest against one of the best
teams in the country, a gamethat you look at and I think this
is where coach when he's coming fromyou know him as well as I do,
talking about building this program up.But again, I'm not gonna get

(10:07):
in the weeds with some of thefolks out there that just it's toxic.
It's that way in the NFL,it's that way in college's that way in
sports. You're gonna have your toxicpeople who aren't really fans. And if
you're a fan and you have aproblem with the way your team is playing,
I get it. Be critical.I think coach Swiney's all about that.
But what he said that interested memore than anything else is winning is
hard. And I think just paraphrasinghere, going through some of what they've

(10:31):
gone through, now there's value init. There's value in knowing that.
Okay, the Duke game, whenyou put on the tape and see what
happened, it's pretty clear what happenedinside the ten yard line. They fumble
the game away. Give Duke alot of credit, and Riley Leonard had
that great run at the end FloridaState. What are you gonna do?
Rich It's a great team against youin your house. You're historically very good
at home, So you're exactly rightabout narratives. The good thing about our

(10:54):
show is we're able to kind ofleap past the narratives and develop our own
inferences in what's going on with thisteam right now at four and two,
an opportunity to go down to mindyou play a very good team with Tyler
van Dyke a little banged up,but it looks like he's gonna play and
a chance to get back to fivewins. And Richmond, if I'm looking
at like my MVP from the gamethat we just saw, I mean,
you can go with a number ofguys here, but I think if you

(11:16):
get down in this game and thenyou start running the ball late, give
it to Shipley and MafA And that'smy one two punch there in the second
half. But we'll look and seeif the running game can be effective here.
Man, you're exactly right though,if for some reason, and I
don't know what happened with coach Christaballdown there. He's a very good football
coach. But that's sort of likea late night Madden with your buddy's gaff

(11:39):
seven thirty eight seconds. Those arethe plays that happen. You invite the
critiques in, and then it becomesa landslide of a problem. And Clemson
has not really done that. They'vejust lost a couple of tough games.
Well, and you have to lookat it from a perspective that these probabilities
that happen. And that's why, even from a Clemson perspective, the Duke
game with the turnovers, the probabilitiesthat those turnovers would lead to what they

(12:03):
led to ex and knowing that rightnow Clemson has ten turnovers this season that
have led to forty three points forthe opposition, But then you look at
it again, from the probability ofthe Florida State game, what's the probability
that Cape Club Nick's going to getsacked and fumble and the ball is going
to bounce right into a Florida Statedefender that they can scoop and score.

(12:28):
It's a low probability. What's theprobability in Miami that Mario Christobaul decides,
Hey, you know what, We'rejust going to run it and we'll win
the game. It'll be fine,it will be fine, and a call
that it's a turnover, which Istill think the Miami running back was down.
Well, that's the whole I dobelieve that. But then the probability

(12:48):
that Georgia Tech is able to goseventy plus yards and that amount of time
Haines King just it's such low probabilities, but it just magnifies Again. Once
we talk about so many times,is that anything is possible, it can
happen, it can't happen. Andwhile there's certain things we want to say
that are unbelievable, they turn intobelievable because we see them, we see

(13:11):
them happen. So it becomes amazingthat those type of things happen. And
I think it's just a perspective forboth Miami and Clemson right now, and
obviously we're focusing here on the ClemsonTigers, is that Clemson, unfortunately has
been on the bad side of thoseprobabilities and that has hurt him to hurt
them. And then over the years, Clemson has been on the positive side

(13:33):
of those probabilities and because they've hadplaymakers that have been able to come overcome
those probabilities and those statistics. Winning, as John Fox once said from the
Panthers is the ultimate deodorant. Itreally will cure a lot of things that
are bothering you in the short term. And when you win a lot,
and hey, congratulations deblishing any TYGFrank Howard one hundred and sixty five,

(13:54):
you can pass them today. Whenyou win a lot and you win fast
and you build it up, areready to tear you down. All across
the landscaping, That's always going tobe the case with the Tigers. You
just got to keep plowing. Andthat's what I love about this program.
To my question, and I thinkDabo had almost even asked this type of
question, and I know other peoplehave started asking this question and I actually

(14:18):
said it last year when Clemson wasstruggling, just in terms of now you
can look at it this year fourand two. So, Clemson fans,
would you trade this four and twoseason for two national championships in twenty sixteen,
in twenty and eighteen and that runof dominance for the Clemson Tigers?
Say? Or you could be sixand oho this season right now, but

(14:41):
you don't have those two national championships, and you're just mediocre for those eight
plus years that you're finishing, youknow, nine to three each season.
I know, without a shadow ofa doubt, We'll take this four and
two season right now for those twonational championships in twenty sixteen and twenty eighteen,
and just think about it next year. John, how many times we've

(15:03):
talked about it. Thank you.The college football playoffs stanch and so having
two losses is not eliminating your teamautomatically thanks to the opportunity of making the
playoffs because there's more games now youstart earlier. You just mentioned the fact
that these early season losses can changethe narrative of a season. On the
other token, though, to thesign of that token, if you lose

(15:24):
early, which Clemson has done.Look, it's probably not going to happen
for a National champions the year.We know that's not gonna happen, but
we do know that they can stillget up in the rankings and make some
hay here down the stretch. Itstarts with the Miami Hurricanes coming up tonight
at hard Rock Stadium. I lookedat this earlier. Maybe we'll bringing up
later. Dabos Ween's got an incrediblerecord in NFL stadiums, and I heard

(15:46):
somebody this week crow maybe he'll jumpto the NFL. That ain't happening.
I can tell you that right now. I think Matt Rule said the best
I belong in college. Dabo isright here and they're gonna be taken on.
Mario Cristo balls the Hurricanes tonight. We are brought to you Ingles low
Prices, Love the Savings Ingles dashmarkets dot Com. Will Van Dervorten is
standing by with the Clemson Insider. He'll join us next right here on ninety

(16:07):
two point five WSC. This isthe Ingles Tailgate Show on ninety two point
five w e SC. Now Hereare your hosts, John Ellis, I'm
Richmond Weaver. We are in abeautiful shady spot and you can be in

(16:33):
the sunshine or the shade right hereat Camperdown Plaza downtown Greenville. It's a
little breezy out there, so packa coke. It's feeling good though.
We're in the seventies right now. It's October twenty first. You know what
that means, Richard Weaver. We'reten days away from Halloween and is it
going to be a trick or treatfor Clemson today as they're looking to move
to five wins against the Canes downthere and Coral Gables. We're looking forward

(16:56):
to the kickoff which will commence justa few minutes after eight pm. Don
Muns and Tim Bray and company onthe call on the Clemson Athletic Network.
As always, we can't do anIngles tailgate show without the great Will vander
Volde. He is from the ClemsonInsider and he joins us as he does
every week, with an inside look. Welcome back to the show, my
friend. How are you doing well? Hey John, how you guys doing

(17:18):
you? Richmond doing fantastic, Sirdoing well, and you know again full
disclosure, you were a Steelers fan. Congratulations on getting the win against the
Ravens, and I was glad tosee that Matt Canada took great joy in
that play that he didn't call.Yeah, he's as excited as everybody in
Pittsburgh was. He kept a stopfor another week. Oh man, Well,

(17:41):
speaking of offenses that that are sputtering, I heard your podcast this week
with Levon Kirkland, the Believe inClemson Football Podcast. I told Rich it's
part of my homework assignment before gameshere. It gives you some great insight.
And honestly, Levin's perspective is sointeresting, and you guys have talked
about, you know, him beinga former Steeler, you being a Steelers
fan. The Clemson situation remind youa little bit of what Pittsburgh's going through

(18:02):
too, that the defense is sortof carrying the load. Right now,
let's start with that defensive unit. We'll dive into the offensive minute. Uh.
Your impressions of some of the standoutsso far, and again, look
at last week holding the wake Forestto their lowest yardage total in four years.
Pretty impressive. Yeah, it's trulyimpressive to consider what Wake Force did
to them last year. Right. You know that Dad said they had nightmares

(18:23):
after that game last year. Youknow, I thought it was like one
of their better performances. I thoughtGoodwin called a great game. They you
know, didn't didn't really force anyturnovers as much, but they they they
they caught sacks, they got pressureon the quarterback. Uh, they shut
down the run. You know,it was I thought an overall very balanced

(18:45):
and they did it, guys, especially with three of their starting guys in
the secondary going down, which wasimpressive. Uh. They started the game
without Sharon Jones, without Nate Wiggins, and then in the middle of the
first quarter they lose Jayden Phillips theshoulder injury, and they're down three starters
just like that, and wait forcedto do anything on them. I mean,
they held him down all day.I thought Torreanna Prize played a great

(19:08):
game. I thought Jason vad andLucas did the same. And then I
thought when he dropped back into thesafety position, Andrew mccoobaugh played lights out
playing that position for James Phillips andso didn't miss a beat. And now
this week the good news is,guys, they get them all back,
and so I'm looking for Clemson defenseto continue what has been doing pretty much

(19:30):
for most of the season. WillVandervoord joined us from the Clemson Insider an
inside look, and he just gaveyou the scoop on some of the key
players coming back for Clemson. Look, it's always great you go into a
bye week and you get a winagainst a pretty good Demon Deacon's team that
was three and one at the time, and you can then get your guys
right. And I think you talkedabout a number of players who will be

(19:52):
coming back into the lineup here offensively, you look at again, I think
Rich brought up a great point, and I've talked about this with what's going
on in the NFL with guys likeSean Payton and Frank Reich. You know,
these guys are bona fide coaches.Gary Riley is one of them as
well, and they've got good players. But sometimes it takes a little bit
of time, Will, as youand I've talked about, to get all
these pieces aligned and to get everybodyin alignment with the scheme, the structure,

(20:17):
the flow. This looks like anoffense that doesn't lack a lot of
talent. I know they would probablylike something dynamic at the boundary X and
maybe the offensive line could do alittle more at times, but club Nick
can throw the ball. They've gota great running game. It's a playflow
kind of just situation right now thatgets them behind schedule. Your assessments so

(20:37):
far on this Clemson offense and arethey going to trend in a better direction
in your opinion, it's to see, you know, I think it starts
to get right. I said itstarts up front, right, and yep,
they have a big assistant up front. You know, they just haven't
had. You know, Sewell's gonnayou know, I'm miss to see if
the freshman Sewell hair Sewell starts atright are today. That will be interesting

(21:03):
to see. I thought when himand Colin Sadler were in the game the
Clipson the odd running game looked muchbetter in that Wake Forest game. I
thought it showed more consistency. Wesaw a lot of that in the second
half, so I missed to seeif we'll see more of that in this
game today. I think it startsthere and then you know, when you
get you know, they're gonna getAntonio Williams back. That's gonna be a
big list of this offense, Ithink, because now you're gonna be able

(21:25):
to put your three fastest receivers onthe field at the same time in Williams,
Tyler Brown, and of course TroyStilado. So I think that's gonna
add something to the offense too.So I don't think we've seen everything this
offense has to offer, because justto be honest, guys have been banked
up and then they haven't had anycontinuity on the o offensive line because of
injuries Walker Parks. People forget hewent down early in the season and the

(21:48):
one game he did play and hewasn't healthy, he was he was hurting
in that game. He tried toplay through it, really couldn't do it.
So they've been very inconsistent at thatright guard position, and that affects
everything. It only take one positionnot to be right to mess up everything.
And they've kind of played through somethis year. And look, we
saw some improvement in the Florida Stategames, in Syracuse game obviously, but

(22:11):
then we saw him digress last weekagainst wake Forest and so you want to
see Clemson run of football the waythey did in that second half against wake
Fores, but they ran for onehundred and sixty yards. They did it
like I said with Colin Sadler andHarris Sewell in the lineup, and I
think that's the lineup you might seestart the game. I don't know for
sure, but I won't be surprisedif we see that lineup start today for

(22:33):
Clemson at offensive line. Will Vandervoordis our guest from the Clemson Insider,
and Will so a question again backto the offense and now specifically to caid
Club Nick, And I think alot of the Clemson fan base, a
lot of the narratives right now arequestioning, you know, why isn't Caid

(22:53):
Club Nick Deshaun Watson or Trevor Lawrence. And we know the good why because
that Deshaun Watson and Trevor Lawrence areunicorns from being able to walk right in
and almost played immediately, although againDeshaun Watson had to go through a little
bit of lumps there and bumps soto speak. But I look at injury,

(23:17):
yes, that's right, and soI look at cad club Nick Will
and remember he's just a sophomore. It's just nineteen years old, and let's
allow him the opportunity to get better, because I think if you look at
it, another quarterback in the ACCnamed Jordan Travis. I don't think too
many people were high on Jordan Traviswhen he was a sophomore. Hey,

(23:38):
you want me to give you alittle breakdown here. If you look at
Flake Kelvin aid clubs overall statistics,he's they're better than Sir Travis. They're
better than Jorge Travis. They are, and I know from the top roll
because they see the they see thepick six, and they see the scoop
and scores and those things. Butoverall he's not as far as just the

(24:03):
quarterback position and him throwing the football, He's completing sixty five percent of his
passes. He's thrown for over fourteenhundred yards. He's he's got twelve touch
and excuse me, eleven touchdowns totwo interceptions. He's not bad. Now.
It doesn't mean he had made mistakes, because he has. But he's
as you mentioned, Richmond, he'scoming along. He's not gonna beat Deshaun
Watson or Trevor Lawrence. But guesswhat Cleinson fans nobody the next twenty five

(24:26):
years is So you need to getover that. Those are those are generational
quarterbacks that we never saw before. Then here will Yes, I'm just letting
everybody know that. Yeah, thatone point five percent. If you're looking
for Deshaun Watson Trevor Lawrence, you'reprobably not going to ever see it again.
Okay. It's just it's just that'shard to find a guy who could

(24:47):
come in as a true freshman andtake you and win a national championship.
It's hard to find a guy whocan come in with less talent on the
team and leads you to a nationalchampionship. Now I'm talking about the first
being Trevor Lawrence, s being toShaun Watson. Those guys are rare.
They're unicorns that you just don't seethose guys as much. So you need
to get past that and stop comparingevery quarterback to those two guys, because

(25:10):
that's not fair to every quarterback. Most quarterbacks have to develop. They don't
come in automative at mindset and thatway that those two players have. I
mean, Florida State, they've onlyhad one charge award their whole time.
You've never had another Charlotte Ward.Ye, Jordan Travis is good, but
he doesn't even shake a stick atCharlie Ward. Okay, I mean,
that's my point those guys they comealong once every thirty forty years, and

(25:33):
so the odds of you seeing anotherone for once of that back to back
guys, you've already saw something thatwas crazy. You're not going to see
that again, I know. Andagain what we might thought of the unbelievable
turned into believable because we saw ithappen and it was amazing. All right,
So we'll I'm going to switch gearswith you a little bit here and
knowing that I know you're still abasketball guy down there, and don't don't

(25:55):
deny it. Don't deny it.Yes exactly, I get worked out that
I like that brown elmos. Yes. We are less than twenty days from
college basketball, and one of thethings that I'm excited about is college basketball
is tipping off in Ashville with theAshfield Championship at the Harris Cherokee Center,
Ashville on November the tenth and thetwelfth, featuring the men's basketball teams from

(26:18):
Clemson, Maryland, Davidson and UABand everybody out there listening, go get
your tickets right now. Tickets areon sale at Ashfield Championship dot Com.
Again, that's Ashfield Championship dot Com. And it's proudly sponsored by Engles Markets.
So will I have to ask you, how do you balance when it's
football season and then basketball season iscoming upon us, and especially when you

(26:40):
have a great event like this inAshville? How do you do it?
Man? Ah, that's a greatquestion. It's always tough. It's really
tough. But you know, yougot a job to do, so you
got to try to figure out whatyou got to try to figure out a
when to go where and how togo where and what to do. But
the good news is you got avery good basketball team coming back in Clemson,
so it makes it easier for ourstorylines and things of that nature go.

(27:04):
And then of course always does agood job just providing those players for
us and coaches for us and givingus the opportunity to have those stories and
write those stories. So yeah,it's always tough this time of year,
Richmond, to balance the two.But I love doing it because a I
love football obviously, but I obviously, like you, buddy, I have
a love a favorite of basketball aswell, and so I love to just,

(27:27):
you know, you know, getthe basketball season going. And like
I said, Coach Brown, nowI poke him enough so he knows that.
And you know, I love thatstaff down there because I'm always poking
my head in and aggravating them.So it's a fun time of year.
It's a fun time of year. And just I can't wait to see this
basketball team because I think they're goingto be really, really good and I

(27:48):
think they got a chance to bespecial. I really do, and so
kind of makes it even more fun. Yeah, no question about it.
And it's a good problem to have, Will, that you're going and back
and forth between football and basketball. That's not a bad scenario, don't forget.
You know. Will's also got tojust continue to discover what Kate club
That can do to measure up toTrevor Lawrence. And then he's got to

(28:10):
keep one eye on Kenny Pickett andif he can take his Steelers to more
than ten wins this year, Buddy, I picked the Steelers to go far
in the playoffs. I'm counting onthem. So so give Micah pep talking.
Let's get Matt Canada bank rebelongs ona high school sideline. Let's make
it happen for your team, rightWell, man, I would love that,
but we that's gonna happen. Soyou in here. I want my

(28:36):
Steelers to win, but they needto have a change too. So yeah,
I don't know you like I'm atrue fan. I know coach Sweeney
Sweene's gotten out there to that onepoint five percent when it comes to the
Steelers, I am not that onepoint and I am the ninety eight point
five And so I'm ready. I'vealready convinced myself of a victory this week.

(28:56):
And I don't know how it happened. Maybe TJ Watscors three down.
Maybe that's how it happens. ButI'm excited about it, and we'll see
if the Steelers can get a W. So I live for the black and
goal, as you guys know, all right, Will Vanivre before we let
you go here, Will Vanderward isfrom the Clemson Insider. It's an inside
look. Give me one thing Clemsonhas to do to win this game,
most importantly, and one thing Miamican do to trip Clemson up here.

(29:21):
Yeah, for Clemson to win thisgame, excuse me, they have to
throw the football today. I thinkMiami's going to come in do everything they
can to stop the run game, and so I think it's going to be
imperative for Cade and those wide receiversto play the way they's against Florida State,
They're gonna get opportunities. Miami's secondaryis suspect, so there's going to
be opportunities there for them to makeplays. But they have to make those

(29:44):
plays. Something they didn't do againstwait Cours. They got to start continue
to show consistency in the passing gameto help the run game. We talked
about that a few weeks ago,and they ended up running for two hundred
and seven yards. Guys, theywould have went over two fifty if they
would have cost the football a littlebit better pitch and catch there in the
first half, and I would havegot my two fifty. So so I'm
gonna go ahead and say that that'sPrinces's got to run the football with excuse

(30:07):
me, throw the football with consistencyto set up the run game, and
then I think for Miami to win, I think, guys, this really
comes down to this. For Miami, it can't turn the ball over.
They're just not good at all whenthey turn the ball over. Nine turnovers
the last two weeks. That's whythey've lost both those games. And you
just can't do that and win atany level, but specifically at this level.

(30:29):
We talked about Clinston's turnovers and theirissues this year, Miami's are even
as profound. So that's gonna beI think tonight if Miami, if Crimson
can't turn them over, Miami's gonnahave a chance to win this game.
So I think it's going to bea tight, defensive kind of game.
You've got two desperate teams, guys, neither one of them can afford the
loss. This is a is aplayoff game for the ACC championship. If
you will, Yeah, just lookat what's in front of you. Like

(30:52):
Richmond said, wins your mentality.Every game is a playoff right now for
what you're building towards. And there'salways goals down there for coaching any of
that entire staff. Will Van Dervoardfrom The Clemson Insider joins us every week
here with an inside look. Youcan find his work at Steeler Will on
Twitter X whatever you call it now, I don't care. And of course
the Believe in Clemson Football Podcast.I must listen with Levon Kirklin and our

(31:14):
good friend Will Vannivard. Good totalk to you, man, Enjoy the
game and let's see how it comesout tonight for Clemson. Gonna be a
big moment for them. All right, guys, I appreciate anybody I'm down
here in Miami so they can findour work. Put on your son,
Dan Loci, my friend stay well. Will Van Devard joins the Man of
the Hour there, Will Vandervoard joiningus there from Miami is going to be

(31:37):
down there covering this game that kicksoff and just under five hours from now
in Richmond. Man, you mentionedsomething I was thinking about college hoops.
I've been talking about it a loton our sister station, one of four
nine Fox Sports Upstate. It's gonnabe a great deal of fun to see.
Just some these aren't blue blood programs, but these are programs that have
heritage in history. Gary Williams inthe Maryland Days, and then of course

(31:59):
Davidson. You know the story aboutSteph Curry and others, Clemson and no
UAB as well. Clemson a coupleof years ago, you and I do
in the Ingles Countdown to tip Offshow. They were on the precipice a
couple of times. They got knockedoff by Rutgers in the You know,
of course, the first round andthen what happened last year. This is
a good program and I'm I'm cheeringfor Brunelle, I really am, because

(32:19):
you talk about the one point fivepercent feels more like twenty point five percent
and it's unfair. Well, andClemson was fourteen and six in the ACC
last year. Is the first timethat a team that has ever reached fourteen
wins in the ACC and not madeit into the NC DOUBLEA Tournament. And
a lot of factors that go intoit. Now it's not the same.
I get it, I understand, but it seems, you know, there

(32:40):
has been historical evidence that shows youget to fourteen wins in the ACC,
you're going to make it into theNC DOUAA tournament. And I think Clemson
had an opportunity where it's the nonconference games that they lost, it's losing
to South Carolina. You were Joein the basement, you tell Yah,
can tell it was coming. Andso it was unfortunate for Clemson from that

(33:00):
standpoint, But they have a coregroup coming back with PJ. Hall and
Chase Hunter, and then you're addingthe addition of transfer Joe Girard from Syracuse,
and this is a guy who canlight it up, and he's going
to be a pivotal part of BradBurnell's offense, especially from the outside.

(33:22):
And I know he's used to twothree zone defense playing there under Jim bahe
Syracuse, but he also he knowscoming here to Clemson with Brad Bronell,
you're gonna have to play some Maandaband defense. And I had the opportunity
to sit down and talk to himabout that, and he's all ready for
that. So this is going tobe a great opportunity and you'll be able
to see some of that great actionin Ashville at the Ashville Championship. And

(33:43):
again, Clemson fans, go getyour tickets at Ashville Championship dot Com November
the tenth, so you can goup there on a Friday, watch the
game Friday night as Clemson. It'staken on you. It's the way to
Then you've got the home game againstGeorgia Tech on Saturday on the eleventh,
and then go back up on Sundayto watch Clemson play either Maryland or Davidson

(34:04):
and you have a jam packed weekendsandwiched with college basketball on Friday and Sunday.
The chaos of November is one ofthe best times of the year.
You've got everything coming together. It'sprobably sponsored by Ingles Low Prices Love the
Savings. Check it out at AshvilleChampionship dot Com. Much more on that
throughout the show, But we're talkingfootball as well. Clemson taking on Miami
tonight eight pm. It's the Tigers. It's the Hurricanes. Is there a

(34:25):
little history between these two? Oh? Yes, there is, rich and
I will talk about that with alittle on This Day OTD and some series
history later in the program. Comingup later as well. Don Munson behind
the mic. He is live fromcral Gables right now and he's gonna give
us a little preview live from thebeautiful city of Miami. I wonder if
he's been to South Beach yet,knowing don n, I don't think so.

(34:46):
We were brought to you by InglesLow Prices, Love the Savings.
We are live at Camperdown plazat Greenville, South Carolina, right in the heart
of downtown. Come on out andsee us. We're here till five pm.
Much more of the Ingles Tailgate Showrolls on right after this. This
is the Ingles Tailgate Show on ninetytwo point five. W E s been

(35:19):
half the Live on Ben Dazzy mean, Oh, we're well rested, We're
feeling good after a bye week.Richmond Weaver and I look at we're doing.
Radio is hard too. It's hardon the brain, it's it's hard
on the preparation. It's nothing likethese young men out there who are cracking
heads every single week, and it'sgood for them to get a little bit
of time off. Clemson did thatand now they go into Look, I

(35:39):
don't want to say hard Rock Stadiumas a hostile environment. Even before the
Dolphins got good this year, itnever really was known as such, but
it's certainly gonna be. As willVandervoord said, a hungry team, a
team that has two wins early inthe season and they get these two losses.
Mind you, that is inexplicable toGeorgia Tech. And then you know

(36:00):
May and Ted Walker show up andthat happens, and Clemson they're studying the
ship. But offensively, there's justsomething there in the form of turnovers and
unsteady playflow. A lot of questionsfor both teams, but they're still in
good shape. Just think about thisfrom the Miami Hurricanes, team four and
two should have never lost to GeorgiaTech. That was just crazy how that

(36:23):
game and it just upsets me.We can say should have never lost,
but they did, and so that'sthe reality they did. But then also
they were winning at halftime on theroad against North Carolina and it was an
offensive explosion there from North Carolina thathelped catapult the Tar Hills to that victory.
So you have one play and onehalf that has changed the narrative for

(36:46):
the Miami Hurricane season because nobody istalking about what Miami did to Texas A
and M and how they were ableto throttle Texas A and I from the
big badge. I've completely forgotten aboutit. And again, I know it's
Texas A and M, and I'mthe first one jumping up in the front
of that line saying Jimbo Fisher isnot going to get it done shotgun.

(37:07):
Now it's even more fun. SoI understand that it's not Texas A and
M. That again that people thoughtwere going to be this powerhouse because of
the transfer portal that they use andalso all the nil money apparently that they
were able to use from the collectiveto sign the greatest Jim to sign the
greatest recruiting class that we have everseen in college football. Yes, and

(37:30):
so now you're looking at that TexasA and M team, We're still struggling
from that perspective, but it's stilla quality win for Miami. Course,
you just you take away one playand take away one half from Miami and
this team could be sitting there atsix and oho and the same way you
look at Clemson. That's what I'mtalking about, just from the perspective of

(37:52):
you take away some a couple ofturnovers are one quarter for Clemson absolute that
Duke game, and you take awayone play in that Florida State game,
and that's the Cade club Nick Sackand scoop and score play, and this
Clemson team could be a six andzero team heading down to Miami. And
now this would have been a primetime matchup in a nationally ranked game.

(38:15):
And we're now at a point whereboth of these teams are unranked. And
it's crazy to think about I gotchange just on a few plays. Yeah,
and it really the rankings don't matter, but it's still pretty ridiculous that
these teams doing what they've done, especially Clemson, still stabilizing things defensively,
especially on the side of the ballthat they take so much pride in putting

(38:37):
pressure on the quarterback. They've gotso many good pass rushers that's going to
make life hard on Van Dyke downthere. And they've got some you know,
guys that can catch the ball inthe boundary. It's a dangerous team.
And you look at what's been goingon here quickly in the ACC.
We missed you last week because wewere on our bye week too. But
I on my show on Fox SportsUpstate rich Game on one of four nine
Fox Sports Substate weekdays four pm,by the way, and you're on three

(38:59):
pm with The Richmond Show, Ikept banging this drum about Syracuse. Two
weeks ago. I said, oneguy's like in Thelova, Syracuse has a
tendency to make lay hard on teamslike North Carolina. Nope, they laid
waste to him. And then Isaid the same thing for a minute.
And then Falco called me, TreyFalco, and he's no, no,
no, And I said, yeah, this is not going to be close.
And look, Jordan Travis played well. Kean Coleman's out there looking like

(39:19):
Odell Beckham forty one to three, and they're getting the job done. Yeah,
and Florida State is a team thatcontinues to improve, and I'm not
certain we've seen the best Florida Stateat this point. And that's what could
be a scary thing. And Ido believe again this game tonight at seven
thirty against Duke. I know peopleare talking about how good Duke is,
and I'm the first one also tosay, yes, I underestimated Duke as

(39:45):
a totality from a perspective of howgood they are, especially on the defensive
side. But you also are ina scenario where Roddy Leonard, if he
is able to go, and it'squestionable, is he going to be one
hundred percent? We know that's notgoing to be the case. I don't
think Duke has enough firepower to staywith Florida State. Even though Duke is

(40:05):
good defensively, this Florida State teamis explosive and it'll be the most explosive
team that Duke has faced from thatperspective, and that's why I think this
is going to be a game whereI know people are talking about, oh,
how can you have Florida State atfourteen fourteen and a half point favorite
against Duke Because Duke is such asolid team, and I understand that,

(40:25):
but I think down in Tallahassee,I think this is going to be a
game where Florida State wins by seventeenor twenty points. Look, the folks
down there in Tallahassee, you havehad since five this morning to get ready
and if you know what I mean, you know what I mean for what's
going to happen out there tailgate andthey're going to be loud. This is
a huge game all of a sudden, and it's interesting to see in the
ACC the shift. How about Louisville. They had an opportunity last week to

(40:50):
keep their fortunes going undefeated and theyget beat by pick of all teams.
Hello, ACC craziness. Here.We are heading into November soon and this
is where you're going to start tosee some of these storylines that felt good
at one point crashed down and thensome emerging teams and Clemson fans are hoping
they can be one of those.By the way, Duke in Florida State
kicks off at seven thirty and VirginiaNorth Carolina tangle at six thirty pm.

(41:13):
Just a little look at what's goingon right now in the ACC. Richmond
Pittsburgh going for another win here, maybe over Wake Forest. They're up seven
to nothing early on in this game, seven minutes in. Right now,
that game is in Winston Salem.Of course, you got Clemson Miami kicking
off at eight pm and Boston Collegeearlier in the week again crazy league,
crazy game, Georgia Tech. Allthey had done there to get themselves a
role in and Boston College wins thisgame thirty eight twenty three. They have

(41:36):
a winning record. Now, they'retwo and two in the ACC. So
it's an interesting conference and much likeit is in the totality of the top
twenty five. We could talk aboutthis later. Who is the best team
in the country? Who is thebest team in the ACC? Hard to
really put your finger on that rightnow, I'll say this about what we're
talking about with Duke man. IfElco can get that win, if he
does it with defense, you talkabout what you said earlier about the narratives.

(41:59):
That changes the narrative not only forDuke, but it starts to get
the defensive guys out there excited, like your defense is back. Let's see
this work for coach Yilko. They'rereally well oiled. But you know,
what that dot you're looking at,Trade Benson. That whole team can just
do everything. And it is soappropriate that the ACC has a scenario where
you have a Boston College team thatloses to Northern Illinois in overtime earlier in

(42:22):
the season, goes up against theGeorgia Tech team beats Georgia Tech who just
beat Miami. And then now wealso have Louisville. They just laid the
big doughnut, the egg against Pittsburgh. So appropriate for the ACC. Just
when you thought they were going tohave multiple teams that would be contending there
in the top fifteen in Louisville laysthat egg. We've got much more to
come here on the Ingles Tailgate Showlive from Camperdown Plaza. We got Clemson

(42:45):
Miami coming up at eight pm.Much more coming up right after this.

game, seven nothing. Yes,you see a squirrel white for a thirty

(43:32):
nine yard touchdown. That's all right, It's gonna be tough, Nick Saban.
We'll see if they can withstand thatthey've been there before. And they've
got the T shirt for that one. We've got much more coming up in
the second hour here. We're gonnabe joined by Don Munson behind the mic.
Don Munson's been calling games for thisparticular program for a long time,
and he's gonna give us some goodperspectives not only on what's going on this

(43:52):
season for the team, but maybeshed a little bit of perspective on what
Clemson fans. Maybe they feel likethey're teams that are performing a little bit
of perspective on where they've been andwhere they are now much much more ahead.

Rich and we get here and againyou can't help where the shade goes.

(45:43):
It's right on us here. Ilove it. I've talked about this often

thing where you turned the studio tempsdown to like fifty eight. I used
to freeze you to death. Andwe did game all together. And it's
a little bit be out here. It's feeling a little bit like more football
action. It felt a little morelike the Masters earlier today. But the
shade is here, the sun ishere. The kids to everybody said the

(46:04):

many great games going on. Wheredo you look? What do you follow?

It's a fast show today. Wegot Don Munsey coming up here in
about twenty minutes or so. Butas we always do, and it's a
great time to do it. Youknow, we're reflecting. It's it's a

(46:46):
great time to look back. Wegot to fire up the Dolorean. We
got to go back in time andlet's see what happened with Richmond Weaver on
this day. Y'all fire up thedeloreaty time to take a trip down memory
lane. Blow it's OTD on thisday and Clemson football history. Here's Richmond

(47:09):
Weaver. As you mentioned, itis a beautiful day, and that's a
beautiful day here in the Upstate aswe are celebrating college football here on October
twenty first, And so let's walkback in that history. How about nineteen
forty eight for the Clemson Tigers,as they were number fourteen in the country

(47:31):
and they would beat South Carolina thirteento seven in Columbia, and captain of
the team, Phil Prince was thehero for the Tigers as he blocked a
punt with just four minutes and fifteenseconds left in the game and Oscar Thompson
recovered it at the eleven yard lineand rend it in for a touchdown,
giving Clemson the thirteen to seven leadand the win nineteen forty eight. You

(47:54):
think Phil Prince told that story afew times the family get together said you
know, look, that's a bigmoment for him back in the day.
Wow, I would imagine so,and he would go on to do great
things there at Clemson as well. And how about this one October twenty first,
in two thousand in North Carolina inChapel Hill. And I was there.

(48:15):
I witnessed this in person, asClemson would improve to eight and oh
with a thirty eight to twenty fourvictory against the tar Hills. But at
one point Clemson was losing seventeen tonothing. In that game, and Woody
Danzler left that game with an injuredankle there and Willie Simmons came in to

(48:36):
throw four touchdown passes, three ofthem to Rod Gardner to win that game
and Clemson again overcoming a seventeen pointdeficit, and at the time it was
the third largest deficit that the Tigerswere able to overcome and gain a victory.
So fantastic job. And I wasright there and I was in the
end zone when Rod Gardener called oneof those touchdown passes. Rod was amazing,

(48:59):
amazing, absolutely amazing. Willie Simmonswas the hero also. And how
about this in two thousand and sixon October twenty first, I know a
lot of Clemson fans remember this oneas Clemson would beat number thirteen Georgia Tech
thirty one to seven in Death Valley. Clemson was ranked number twelve in the
country entering into that game and itwas the first battle of top twenty five

(49:22):
teams in Death Valley in fourteen years. Wow. And this was the emergence
of thunder and lightning, as JamesDavis would rush for two hundred and sixteen
yards and C. J. Spillerwould add one hundred and sixteen yards on
the ground to lead Clemson to threehundred and twenty one yards rushing in that

(49:42):
game. And it was the firsttime in history that Clemson had a two
hundred yard rusher and a one hundredyard rusher in the same game. And
also c J. Spiller he scoredon a fifty yard run down the sidelines
that people are still talking about andgo YouTube and watch that because he was
shot out of a cannon dell.He snuff absolutely just juked Georgia Tech defenders

(50:07):
out of their shoes in that game. And I know people will remember that
because also Clemson wore purple jerseys inthat game. And what was great is
that James Davis and c. J. Spiller were on the set of Game
Day after the game getting interviewed andthey still had their pads on. They
still have their shoulder pads on.That's the side of a ball. It

(50:27):
was no showers, yet we're goingstraight to the sid It was fantastic.
And again Spiller scoring on that fiftyyard run, and also he had a
fifty yard reception and was the firstplayer in Tiger history to have one of
each in a game. So Clemsonoverall is twelve four and one in games
played on October twenty first, includingtheir last eight contest, a streak that

(50:51):
dates all the way back to FrankHoward's seventeen to seven win against Duke in
nineteen sixty one. Yes, soClemson does very well on October twenty first,
They certainly do. I want tojust take a moment, if you
don't mind, I do well onOctober twenty second. I did well because
I met my wife in Clemson onOctober twenty second, and the very next

(51:12):
day I came back down. Ihad never really talked to her much.
We started dating. It was aboutin Bowl one in nineteen ninety nine,
So it's not really on this day. I thought I'd still admitted to your
thunder and just wish my wife Oliviaa happy anniversary tomorrow. We've been together
for twenty four years. Richard fantasticariedfor now. Oh yeah, thank you
man. We're gonna she's working,I'm working, but hey, we're glad
to be with you and sharing somememories here. This is what I love

(51:34):
this little piece of information too.The Clinton staffers always put this out during
the week. Sweeney and NFL stadiumsI always looking at because they playing so
many of these throughout these bowl games, and you see the early season games.
Saturday's game at hard Rock Stadium, home of the Miami Dolphins. By
the way, man, who's gonnastop this team? Dolphins? I just
don't know, Carolina did. Thiswill be Clinton's twenty second game in an

(51:55):
NFL stadium since twenty fifteen. Thatmeans you're doing some primetime work right there.
Clemson has won seventeen of its lasttwenty four in NFL stadiums. Clemson
has a twenty and eleven record inthose NFL stadiums underhead coach Dambo Swinging,
including three and two at hard RockStadium under all of its monikers. Of
course, there's been a number ofstadiums out there, so it's always interesting.

(52:15):
And again, look you look atthe series history here, Rich you
know as well as I do.I'll never forget. Before Don Munson,
our good friend who will join uspee Yanity, was on the call for
a big game against Miami where lookhere and our old friend Will Merritt and
Yanity were about to break something inthe booth. After that, there had
been some really cool moments over theyears with this, I would say little

(52:36):
mini rivalry between these two teams well, and I think it's one of those
things where especially when you think aboutwhere Clemson was in the eighties and the
nineties, but also where Miami wasand obviously the just from the college football
landscape, when you thought college football, you thought of Miami Hurricanes. Oh,
I'm suposed they were one of thepowerhouses for a long period of time

(53:00):
and to see just where they havefallen. But now can Mario christ of
ball get them back? But youhad some memorable games, obviously we've talked
about when you look at the serieshistory over the past several games, Clemson
has dominated this history of games. Now they haven't played a whole lot,
but they've had some memorable games fromClemson standpoint, Obviously the fifty eight to

(53:22):
zero down in Miami the last timethey played in Miami. That was a
beatdown. But also the triple overtimegame in Death Valley, and a lot
of people are still talking about thatas the loudest game in Death Valley.
And there's no question that that wasa crazy atmosphere from a crowd perspective.

(53:44):
And again, this was a scenariothat you just didn't think that would happened,
that you'd have Miami come in too, Death Valley because it just didn't
see that. Yeah, it wasversus acc and now you've got I mean,
think of what it used to bethen and then what it was mentioned.
You just saw those two teams faceoff and you're like, what's going
on? Think of what's gonna happennext year when the whole pack twelve starts

(54:06):
to look to where they're gonna go. It's open season in college football.
And of course in two thousand andnine, I mean you mentioned this earlier,
Kyle Parker Jacoby Ford twenty six yardtouchdown and that was the first rank
win for Dabo Swinney as the guythere, the hit man in the CJ.
Spiller. Of course you mentioned himearlier. How did he not have
a heisman in his hands at somepoint? He was so good? And

(54:28):
the numbers don't lie, my friend, No, they do not. And
obviously Jacoby Ford caught that pass fromKyle Parker and had the opportunity of sitting
down with Kyle Parker. This wasa few years ago, and we talked
about that play and talked about hismemories, you know, how that transpired.
And if you go back and watch, I mean, obviously we know
Kyle Parker was a baseball player.Oh yeah, right, and he had

(54:51):
a cannon of an arms. AndI don't know how Jacoby Ford caught this
pass. I don't break his finger. Probably have one, because Kyle Parker
talked about when he saw Jacoby justas he's dropping back, he knew where
he wanted to go, but hesaw just a split second that he knew
how quick Jacoby Ford was and knewthat based on the hips of the defender

(55:17):
that if he saw the hips goa certain way, he knew Jacoby was
going to be able to get open. And so he was throwing to a
spot and he said, I threwit as hard as I could and made
sure he's a baseball player for sure, and he gunned it in there and
Clemson gets the victory. So hadsome they've had Clemson and Miami have had

(55:37):
some great games but moment, butover the past a few games in this
series, it's been all Clemson.I'm looking back again for our friends on
radio. Sorry, but just toindulge me form it and I'm looking back
at the highlights and everything was sodifferent. Dabo looks like a kid right
out of high school in this game, and again he wasn't far out of
it, but man, the throw, as you mentioned, he he anticipated

(55:58):
through it with great precision. Whata great moment that was. And you
know, every week is a newopportunity for moments like that. That's the
beautiful thing about football, especially collegefootball. Where you've seen, and we'll
cover this in the next segment,so many great moments this year in college
football. Already we're kind of atthe halfway point. That whole week zero
thing throws us off, but we'regonna call it the halfway point and take

(56:20):
a look at the total landscape. If we keep saying top twenty five,
does it really matter. Let's getthese college football rankings out and let's see
where we are in the last year. Hopefully presumably I think we're here of
fourteen playoffs. It's time to expandthis thing. Let's go not until October
thirty, first Halloween, that's whenthe first college football playoff rankings will be
NFL Trade Dead on the same day. That's a busy day, So that's

(56:42):
a busy day. Trick or treatwill happen for a lot of teams in
terms of the first rankings, butwe know that just because wherever you are
in those first rankings obviously doesn't meanwhere you will end up, and you
have the opportunity to move up.We have seen it happen Ohio State being
ranked number sixteen right and making itinto the top four yep, and going
on to win a national championship. So it can happen. But obviously the

(57:05):
ap pole right now, I dobelieve they almost do a mockery of college
football and where things stand, becauseI just don't understand, you know,
how teams will move up and downbased on just not week to weak,
but just even how the narrative changes, and how there's just not an examination

(57:25):
of play on the field, andthat's a big part of it. That's
why hopefully College Football Playoff Committee isable to do that, and I think
we have seen that they have beenable to do that over the years.
But that's why I'm excited though thatmoving to a twelve team playoff next year
will be completely different, and soClemson sitting at four and two is not

(57:47):
out of the realm of making itto the college football playoffs, and with
the loss of twelve teams, yes, and incurring the losses they have.
You do assign value to wins andyou do assign them to losses. In
college football, you have to becauseit's not a strict black or white NFL
issue where you have the seventh seedand eight seed, eight seed you're out,
seven seed, you get the wildcard, you're in. They're tiebreakers,

(58:07):
but it is a bit of acosmetic competition, if you will.
If you're losing to good teams likeClemson has early, you presumably get some
credit for that. And you're doingit early and you're losing before October.
What I don't like, and I'venever liked this, is any team out
there that's just flying high and theyget just stung by an upset, maybe

(58:28):
in late October, early November, and it's just over. There's no chance
they can recover from that. That'swhy expansion, to me, is important,
because you get two three years intothis new expanded format. I just
highly doubt it's gonna be any worse, if not tremendously better than we've seen
so far, so much better thanwe've seen before. And I think what
we're also starting to see in collegefootball, if people can talk about the

(58:51):
transfer portal and how that was goingto change college football for the worse and
people were going to stop watching collegefootball. And I promise you that has
not happening. Ain't hard to findRichard Sanders is not prime time. It's
hard to find after the twenty ninepoint hockeyop. But they've done a good
jump story. But that's just that'swhat's great about college it's great about sports
is that never are you in asituation where it's a given that it's going

(59:15):
to happen a certain way. Andthat's what we love. It's the ultimate
reality TV uh sport or reality TVshow, I should say. But my
point is is that based on theTransfer Portal right now, I feel that
we're in a scenario where we're havingmore parody than we've ever had in college
football degree and that is a goodthing. And I think we're seeing better

(59:37):
matchups, better games because it's notthe usual suspects, it's not the blowouts,
and you're having some of these teamsthat might not have had the opportunity
of having certain players on their teambecause in Alabama and Ohio State, a
Georgia or a Clemson or Southern calcould stockpile these players. But now these
players are able to move and goon to a different program. And now

(01:00:00):
the DJU for example, I meanthree years so far at Oregon State.
It's diversifying talent throughout the landscape ofcollege football and allowing for better parody.
And what do we love about theNFL the parody? Look last week,
you never know the Niners. Lookat you know your Cowboys lost the Cardinals.
They come back and they're they're gettingit done now. But every week

(01:00:22):
is an adventure. And I agreewith you. Look at the current status
of the top twenty five. Youknow where they are, Georgia, Michigan,
Ohio State, Florida State. AndI the one thing I think I
might have gotten right preseason, andI'm not alone, is boy that Washington
team. I want to get tothem in a minute. Among others,
they went toe to toe with DanLannings Orgon Ducks. They were wearing some
Torporo tenfoil outfit as they do everyso often, but they were just amazing.

(01:00:45):
Michael Pennix is really good, Richhe is really good breaking news,
He's really good. And then yougot to Oklahoma. Oh man, I'm
cheering for Brent Vnables on a personalnote, I know you like him.
I do too. That was agood win they had against Texas. We're
gonna touch on some of what's goingon in I'm the top twenty five.
Give you some current scores today. There's some games in action right now.
We'll get you caught up on that, and we'll give you sort of our

(01:01:07):
thesis on what's happening here mid seasonand just looking ahead to maybe who will
be in these college football playoffs comethe end of the year. We are

(01:03:12):
tailgating weekends. Ingles low Prices lovethe Savings. Let me just quickly touch
on what's going on in the toptwenty five right now, Rich and then
we'll dive into our thoughts on what'sgoing on this season. Oregon right now
in a tide ballgame, bit ofa pillow fight for Oregon. It's three
to three right now against Washington State, a very good team in their own
right. That's late first quarter,Tennessee. How about this thirteen to nothing
against Nick Sabans Alabama Crimson Tide. Not too shocked about this. I'm just

(01:03:37):
not because I see just symptoms andsigns of Sabans team being just a little
bit off this year. They're stillsix and one and lurking they can come
back from this game. But Miltonwon twenty six and touchdowns so far well,
And I think it's one of thethings where we've talked about just for
perspective of teams, it's so hardto continue to win and keep at a

(01:03:58):
certain level and living up to theexpectations. And obviously Nick Saban is the
goat in terms of college football coachand what he's been able to do over
the years. You're talking about amodel of consistency and sustained excellence and through
different phases of the program, losingcoordinators on both the offensive and defensive sides,
and just seems to reload each andevery year. But at some point,

(01:04:20):
now that we're seeing this what wetalked about, this dispersion of talent
throughout college football, it's harder andharder to continue to win at this type
of high level. And again that'swhy I'm excited about this college football playoff
expansion, and I know I keeptalking about it, but it's also so
we can have the opportunity of havingmore games that fans are going to be

(01:04:45):
engaged about. And I know, just from a perspective of it's great to
see your team win, but isit fun to see your team when they're
winning like sixty three to zero againstan FCS opponent. It's just not what
do you gain the motion to thatpoint, It's expected, and you know
this as a Clemson guy for along time when you're riding high and you're
expected to do this. I rememberthere's a game a couple of years ago

(01:05:08):
when I think it was maybe theyear they won the national championship, one
of the two years where Troy camethe town. Remember the early season,
Yes, and it was tough doingsand that became a negative lightning rod for
a lot of fans, and itdoes for every program when the expectations are
championship or bust. Alabama's kind ofthe king of that early in the season
with the scheduling, it's fascinating.Clemson recently has been like, hey,

(01:05:29):
early season, we want Georgia,we want to go to do and see
what Mike Yelko is all about. And they're learning that, Hey, teams
are catching up in that conference. They're catching up all across the country.
To mean the team is gonna needto catch up. In this game,
South Carolina's a game Cocks led byour friend Shane Beemer. They are not
looking good right now. It's thesecond quarter is underway. They're losing fourteen
to nothing to Missouri, a goodteam that had a chance against LSU here,

(01:05:51):
but Brian Kelly got up out ofthere with a win against Missouri last
week. Missouri's up fourteen to nothingin this game. North Texas is up
on two lane right now, andin fact two lanes up on that game
seven to nothing. Minnesota Iowa tiedright now. Texas up on Houston early
in the first quarter, seven nothingFinals today Penn State. Rich and I

(01:06:11):
were talking about this during the break, and I still get the sense that
Marvin Harrison, who had one hundredand sixty two yards receiving today, hu
hum. There's always something about OhioState that seems maybe a little bit off.
But you've made a good point.Penn State is very good. James
Franklin has been coaching these guys up. He's been a little salty with the
reporters lately, and rightfully so.It t but they lose twenty to twelve,
and that sort of defines where theseteams are heading out. There's a

(01:06:35):
fork in the road. Penn Statehad an opportunity to take that leap,
and they still can, but itmakes it extra hard now. It definitely
does. And Penn State's in atough position just based on the schedule that
they play, and you're thinking thatcould this be the year that Penn State
finally gets over the hump. They'vegot a quarterback, they've got a defense,
and you could see that they gaveOhio State a run for the money

(01:06:56):
there. Now they scored late tomake it a little bit closer than it
was, but early on it wasa slugfest between the two schools, a
defensive oriented type of game, andKyle McCord, the State quarterback, didn't
seem to be at any type ofrhythm. But there in the second half
started really getting things going and finishedthe day twenty two of thirty five for
two hundred and eighty six yards anda touchdown. And that's why it is

(01:07:19):
so important to have quarterback play. And sometimes quarterbacks are going to struggle for
a part of the season, apart of the game. But can they
get better each in every game? And I think that's what we're starting to
see from various quarterbacks across the country, including Kate Klubnik with the Clemson Tigers.
I mean, look no further thanwhat Trevor Lawrence did in the playoffs
last year. Four interceptions in thefirst half. How do you maintain that

(01:07:41):
poise? Well, you've been there, you've done that. You both raced
Alabama in the title game in anNFL stadium. You rely on that.
So you're exactly right. When youget those experiences, you cherish them and
you build upon it. And wego back to the game. Cocks here
again, fourteen to nothing. ShaneBeemer, We've talked with him a number
of times. They're building something there, but it's going to take some time.
There's a lot of holes in theirtrenches. And say if you're like,
yeah, I'll say this. TheNFL guys I talked to, they're

(01:08:04):
looking at him as like an AlJeffery type, good player, man,
outstanding. We're gonna hit a breakin a minute. But I just wanted
to just get your take on this. What's the best team in college football
right now? Do you have aclear cut Is it Georgia when Brock Bauers
is half healthy half not healthy.Do you have a favorite team right now?

(01:08:25):
Because I look at Michigan and they'rejust plowing through everybody. But again,
Jim Harbaugh's under fire right now forwhat I thought was a baseball story
at first, stealing signals. Butwe're gonna see what happens. They're more
investigations. I tend to think itmight be Michigan, but Georgia has just
maintained. Yeah. Initially I waslooking at a few weeks ago that it
was the Texas Longhorns, the teamthat I felt that had the best compelling

(01:08:48):
schedule in terms of results and howthey looked. But now, obviously losing
to Oklahoma, I can see wherepeople are saying, Okay, what about
Texas? Are they for or arethey not? Georgia continues to win,
so they're they're for real. Michigancontinues to win, so they're for real.
But my point is that with bothof those, is that what schedule?

(01:09:10):
Why? Though they haven't really beentested, And I think that's the
big issue right now for a lotof the teams. We're gonna see what
happens. We need five hours forthis conversation. Maybe one day will get
that. But coming up next we'llyield to Don Munson behind the mic.
He's live from cral Gables. He'sgonna give you the latest down there in
advance of Clemson Miami. That's nexton the Ingles Tailgate Show, ninety two
point five WSC Tigers fans, It'stime to get to floor one one on

(01:09:35):
all things Clemson football. Heading intoanother game day in the South. The
Math, the Math, the Legend, the Don. It's time to go
by behind the mic with Don Munson, director of broadcasting for Clemson Athletics.
The Angles Tailgate Show rolls on.Here's your host, John Pallas, coming

(01:10:02):
to you live from beautiful Camperdown Plaza, downtown Greenville. It's a gorgeous day
for football and we got you lockedand loaded and ready for Clemson Tigers against
the Miami Hurricanes tonight eight pm.Right here on ninety two point five w
e SC. It's the Ingles TailgateShow and it's time to go behind the
mic with our good friend, thedirector of broadcasting for Clemson Athletics, none

(01:10:25):
other than our good friend Don Munson. Welcome back to the show, my
friend. This is great. Howwas the bye week? Did you have
a little time off to use?The bye week was great? The bye
week was you know, I takea chance for a lot of us that
are involved in this pretty heavily tokind of catch your breath a little bit,
enjoy a little bit of time withwith some family, get some honey
dew list things done. Yes,and you know right now you can't beat

(01:10:48):
life in South Beach no, Jim, you kick up your feet and you
soak up the sun a little bit. Yeah, definitely, it's gonna be
a beautiful weekend. It looks likeeighty five on Saturday, and of course
it gets hot in that stadium. So we'll see what happens. Miami was
hot to start the season, butyou know they've cooled off a little bit
through some unfortunate errors. Let's justsay that. We'll get to that team

(01:11:12):
in a minute. Let's look backat what happened against wake Forest, a
game in which, and I knowyou know this, but it struck me
today when I was looking at someof the stats. This was the lowest
offensive output for a wake Forest teamsince twenty nineteen when Clemson held them to
about one hundred and twenty yards ofoffense. And I thought, defensively,
you know, Wes Goodwin's unit justplayed with a lot of intensity. Good

(01:11:33):
to simon football starting with that sideof the ball. What was your overall
impression looking back at the tape andjust watching it live of how intense that
game was defensively? Yeah, Ithink that that, probably, John is
the most un you know, isthe most thing that has overlooked about this
Clemson football team is what they're doingon the defensive side of the football.

(01:11:55):
You know, it really started againstDuke, to be perfectly honestly, I
know they gave up twenty eight pointsin that game, but if you go
back, I think you look atjust the defensive numbers that they were able
to do to do. You know, they played extraordinarily well, I thought
in that opener, and they kindof continued that theme. What the number
five total defense right now in America? Yes, as we come into this
one here today. So you know, from from that standpoint, I think

(01:12:18):
that they got I think they gotto love, love what they're doing on
the defensive side of the ball,no question about it. You forced a
pair of turnovers obviously over the pastcouple of weeks. Clemson did give away
a couple of balls in the game. Offensively. We'll talk about some of
the things they need to clean up. I want to get to this momentarily.
Don Coach Sweeney had some comments thisweek, and you know, coach

(01:12:41):
as well as anyone, I reallydon't know Debo that well. I hope
to get to know him a littlemore down the road, but I've known
his commentary for years. I knowplayers who have played for him. We
had in our studio there at wSC a while back the great Ben bul
Wahre and obviously some other great Clemsonplayers as well. Darien Rincher comes to
mine and ask him a question,Hey, coach Twiney, has there ever

(01:13:02):
been a player that comes out ofthat program? And honestly, we'll just
look back and say, I couldn'tstand the guy. I just couldn't And
to a man, they say no. Now, Dabo did come out this
week and called out what he callsin the past the thumb gangsters. He
did say that, you know, there's that one point five percent that sort
of needs to find their way offthe bandwagon paraphrasing here. He clarified those

(01:13:23):
comments. But as you know, with Coach Sweeney, again I don't put
words in his mouth, but Iwould say this, he has a lot
of conviction about what he believes in. What's your takeaway on what the coach
had to say there and would youlike to add any commentary to that?
Oh? I you know, Ithink that every head coach will always be
a excuse me. One of thethings I can tell you that Coach Sweeney

(01:13:45):
told me, and this is wayway way back when, probably like two
thousand and ten, two thousand andnine, something like that. And basically
he looked at me one time andhe said, you know what, he
said, I'm just coming to theconclusion that basic thirty three percent of the
people are gonna love you, can'tdo can't do any wrong, no wrong,
no matter what you do. Thirtythree percent of the people are gonna

(01:14:06):
love you. Thirty three percent ofthe people are gonna hate you, never
can do anything right, you know, they're just gonna hate you for whatever
reason. And then the other thirtythree percent they're always going to be riding
that fence, he said, Soyou really can't worry about that now.
The fact that he said, insteadof thirty three percent maybe need to get
off the bandwagon, only one pointfive percent you need to get off the

(01:14:27):
band right, you know, diplomaticto me, I think that that's probably
a pretty good deal. And youknow, that's that's just what we are
in today's today's world, today's societyis that the complainers seem to be the
ones that get all the run andyou know, the sunshine plump pers that
they are called get called down byby the complainers, and but you know,

(01:14:48):
I don't have any problem with withwhat he said, because basically,
I think it's probably a little Ithink there's truth, and sometimes facing the
truth is the hardest thing that anyof us can face down your football purist.
You've been around this game for solong. I like to fancy myself
in the same ilk. I thinkwhat coach said, and I don't always
agree with what every coach says, but I thought he nailed it here in

(01:15:09):
terms of being foreign too. AndI'm paraphrasing here, but again, so
many coaches try to emphasize this totheir teams NFL, college, even high
school. Look, we had itlike a little bit of a mini dynasty
here. It's a little bit goodfor you to go through these growing pains
because you know you cannot have itto Shaun Watson, DeAndre Hopkins, Christian
Wilkins. Every single season. They'retrying to get back to a point where

(01:15:30):
they're a championship caliber. But look, what can you do? You're foreign
two, You've had a couple oftough losses. And I liked the messaging
I did. I understand some fanswere a little bit taken aback, but
I think don As you know,in the sports talk culture, especially some
shows like to amp it up andgass it up a little more than it
should be. I thought the messagefell on open ears for the most part.
Obviously, it comes down to winsand losses. It really does.

(01:15:55):
No, yeah, it absolutely does. It does come down to wins and
losses. And the fact that youknow, and this has been talked about
ad nauseum, but the fact thatClemson has won ten games for twelve years
in a row, it creates this. I mean, it just it does.
It just it just creates this. And you know, I actually sent
on a show a month or soback, I said, you know,

(01:16:15):
ten wins isn't what ten wins usedto be. And I got criticized for
saying that, But it's a truth, you know, because you know,
you gotta win fifteen games? Areyou're going to play fifteen games now if
you make it all the way tothe national championship. And believe, none
of those teams that are playing inthe National Championship are going to go into
that national championship twelve and two, none of them are. You know,

(01:16:38):
You're either going to be thirteen andone or fourteen and zero going into that
national championship. So you know,it's ten wins, it's still something,
and it's it's not easy because ifit was easy, everybody would be doing
it. So there's Alabama at fifteen, Clemson at twelve, and then the
next nearest competitor, eight teams thathave done it twice, that have done

(01:16:59):
it two years in a row, that there are on a current ten game
win streak. So just going toshow you it's not easy to do.
Just the last point here Clemson tome, and again it's the Ingles Tailgate
Show. We do cover the ClemsonTigers here and a full disclosure. I
try to be as objective as Ican be, and I think this is
an objective statement. Clemson still hasplenty of talent and plenty of acumen in

(01:17:23):
their coaching staff to go just aboutanywhere in this country and win a game
where it could be Alabama any givenweek, it could be even Washington.
They went to Duke obviously early inthe season. Tough turnovers in the red
zone untied like just once in alifetime type of turnovers. It happens.
You don't burn the tape, butyou move on from it. You move
through the season Florida State. Thatwas a dramatic, thrilling game that if

(01:17:45):
you look for the silver linings ascoaches, do you see growth within those
type of opportunities an overtime game andagain since then you've seen the defensive growth.
Now we shift the Miami Tyler vanDyke will play in this game.
It looks like the mindset of thisteam. Have you had a chance to
sort of dive into where Miami hasI guess plummeted a little bit in terms

(01:18:05):
of the last two weeks tough opponents, but again you give a game away
to Georgia Tech and then you know, Drake May happens last week and Tess
Walker happens last week. What isthe state of the Miami Hurricanes at the
moment from the eyes of Don Munson, Oh, I think there's probably a
little bit of desperation that's there ontheir part, uh, you know,
because you don't want to be thefirst team in Miami history that has lost

(01:18:29):
three conference games, you know,to open up the season. You don't
want to be that that team. You know, this is also under mara
of Christo Baulm a team that hasnot won a home conference game. Yet
Oh wow. I mean, Imean that's what I heard that set this
week and I was like, Dad, no, And you know, obviously
this is only his second year, but he didn't win a home conference game

(01:18:51):
last year and has it and helost his his lone conference game so far
this year that was that was theGeorgia Tech contest. So, you know,
I think that there's a little bitof that that that always creates a
little bit of self doubt. Andnothing is worse than doubt. You don't
want to have. You don't wantto have any doubt. So I think
that there is there a little bitof of you know, as as I

(01:19:15):
said, is there you know,is that that feeling of man, we
got to get this done, andwe got to get this done now.
Yeah, I think that is.It's certainly there with Miami. But I
think you also on the other side, you better have a little bit of
confidence coming into this into this thing. And for I think for Miami,
for them, if they can keepit close and they can keep it close,
you know, late into the game, I think that that plays under

(01:19:38):
the hand. Clemson, on theother side, I think they need to
get off to it. If theyget out to a little bit of a
lead and establish that lead and youknow, carry that then I think that
that really bodes well for them, you know, going into say the last
ten five minutes of the game.Kickoff is at eight pm. You'll hear
the call with Don Munson, TimbaRay, and Reggie Merriweather. They're on

(01:19:59):
the Clemson Athletic Network right here onWSC ninety two point five as well.
Hey, just I want to spotlike one player each week if we can,
and this week it's the great defensiveplayer that we talk about so many
times, Justin Maskal, who,by the way, had that COVID nineteen
year and he has been tremendous. You look at what he's done in terms
of production. He's going to playhis sixtieth career game at Miami. You've

(01:20:25):
been around this young man a longtime. A word if you will on
Justin Maskal. Yeah, Mascal's beenone of those guys that just each year
has gotten a little bit better anda little bit better and a little bit
better. And you know, Ithink that you know, all this COVID
stuff, he's been here now sixyears, so he's playing with this COVID
year. Yeah. By the way, Miami has. I think it's three

(01:20:47):
or four guys on their roster. This is their seventh year at they're playing.
I mean, I think that,and I think that has a little
bit to do also with what we'reseeing in college football. By the way,
a rabbit trail. There as allthese older guys that are that are
still playing in the game. Butmaskw is a guy that you mean,
his teammates love him. He is. He is just the most personable guy

(01:21:11):
that you'll over beer around, veryvery polite young man, knows exactly what
he wants to do when football isall set and done. He is he
has taken advantage of what Clemson hassurrounded him with, and he's really taken
advantage of that. Well. Hewill be a He will be a success.
If it may not be on afootball field after this, he may
not be a professional guy. Ithink he'll have a shot to play for

(01:21:34):
some professional ball. But I guaranteeit, he's going to be a great
alum for Clemson. There's no doubtabout that now question. Great young man,
great player, and going to playhis sixtieth career game for Clemson coming
up as the Tigers tangle with theHurricanes eight pm. Kickoff and daboswiney.
We talked about it all week.Don't bury the lead here, attempting to
earn his one hundred and sixty sixthcareer win to pass college Football Hall of

(01:21:57):
Famer Frank Howard, he had ahundred sixty five from forty to sixty nine.
He'll have sole possession of the Clemsonrecord for head coaching wins. Don
look, I remember as a kid, you know, Robin Howard's rock the
first time I visited the stadium, and again the same has grown by leaps
and bounds since I think nineteen eightyeight. It was against Long Beach State.
I think you might remember that game. That was my first game ever

(01:22:18):
at Death Valley. And now you'vegot an opportunity if your coach twinty against
all odds tall odds, the wayhe came into this program, much maligned.
Again, I know there's been championshipssince then, ten wins seasons,
as you mentioned, but what astory. It really does get buried here,
but a chance to really become theif he hasn't already at least in

(01:22:39):
numbers, the all time greatest coachhere in this program. Yeah, it
is a little bit stunning to thinkabout what we have, what we have
witnessed, by the way that gameLong Beach State that you attended, George
Allen, George Allen, Bob BartholobBob Bartholin and my neighbor and his kids,

(01:23:00):
Rob and Brandon taught me, broughtme to my first Clemson game,
and I was mesmerized. It waspouring down rain and Clemson won and it
was a great day. Don goahead, I'm sorry, that's okay,
that's all right, So but itis it's amazing what we have witnessed with
you know, a guy from Pellam, Alabama that you know, comes to
Clemson in two thousand and three asa as a wide receivers coach. You

(01:23:25):
know, it looked like that maybehis career was not going to play out
at Clemson. When coach Bowden resignedmidway through the eight season, they give
him the They give him the interimjob. He goes four and two,
becomes the first coach since nineteen seventyto take over in an introm role and
post a winning record. Obviously,he gets the job full time and the
rest, as they say, ishis story history indeed, and he's made

(01:23:47):
history generating so many players to theNational Football League. On that notice we
leave you. He's attempting Debos Sweeneyto improve to eighteen and seven all time
in NFL stadiums. Rock Stadium isthe venue. Tonight. Don Munson will
be on the call for the ClemsonAthletic Network along with Tim Murray Reggie Merriweather.
You can listen to it right hereon ninety two point five weesc it's

(01:24:09):
behind the mic with Donny Munson.Be safe and have a great call tonight,
My friend, thanks for doing this, Ali brother appreciates you. All
right, Go Tigers, Go Tigers. There is Don Munson, the director
of broadcasting for Clemson Athletics, joiningus live from Coral Gables getting set for
the eight pm kickoff Clemson Miami.Gonna be a huge opportunity for both teams

(01:24:32):
to write the ship, at leastfrom Miami's perspective. They have obviously stumbled
here the last two weeks, oneagainst a very good team in North Carolina,
the other inexplicably not taking the knee. And Georgia Tech has life and
that's all it takes in college footballfrom time to time. Clemson, on
the other hand, coming off abit of a disappointing offensive performance, but
as we talked about with Don,the defense looks healthy, the secondary is

(01:24:56):
coming together, and it's one ofthe teams I think around college football that
you don't view them in the toptwenty five realm. But like I said,
they can go just about anywhere withthat crew and compete. And this
is a tough one tonight, notnecessarily the venue, as Don pointed out,
We'll see what happens is Mario Christoballooks to erase some of the demons

(01:25:17):
from the past couple of weeks andget a win, and Dabos Winny looks
to become the all time winning ascoach for Clemson University. One sixty six
is the number he's chasing tonight. This is the Ingles Tailgate Show. We're
brought to you by Ingles low Prices. Love the savings at Ingles dashmarkets dot
com much more as we roll onright here on ninety two point five w

(01:25:40):
SC. This is the Ingles TailgateShow on ninety two point five w e
SC. Well, there's no betterway to get ready for a Clemson Tigers

(01:26:06):
game than spending twenty good minutes withDon Munson, just a few hours in
advance of him calling another game forthis network, the clemtson Athletic Network Zone,
Don Munson joins us behind the mic, and he gave some good perspectives
on what's gonna be a game witha lot of offense. I think tonight,
Richmond, you've got some players onthe defensive side of the ball for
Clemson that might raise their hand andsay, not so fast, my friend.

(01:26:27):
We're coming off a big win againstWake Forest. I'm John alis At
to Richmond Weaver. We got somefinal thoughts here as we get just set
for kickoff the night eight pm athard Rock Stadium between the Tigers and the
Hurricanes. I'll go first, howabout that? So here's what I'm thinking.
I'm thinking Miami, obviously, they'veblown a couple of games they probably
should have won. This is thenature of the world of college football.

(01:26:48):
They should be undefeated right now, maybe with one loss. I think it's
gonna be tough for Clemson to comein there and establish themselves early like they
might could have against the Mario Cristoballteam last year. I do think Clemson
wins the game, but I thinkClubnick's going to have to be cleaning the
operation and no more silly turnovers. The return game needs to be solid again.

(01:27:08):
Just play good defense, keeps shuttingdown the run. And Tyler van
Dyke, is he really one hundredpercent? We're going to find out.
I'm gonna go Clemson thirty one,Miami twenty seven. Okay, that's a
lot of points there both of theseteams. Hey, look, I'm feeling
I don't know if we've seen thatfrom the Clemson side. Now, the
ACC's top offensive team when you're lookingat it from a yards per game perspective,

(01:27:28):
that is the Miami Hurricanes, numberseven nationally, But the number one
defensive team in the a CEC that'sthe Clemson Tigers when you're looking at it
from a yards per game perspective. So I think this could be a much
closer slug fest than we're thinking.I'm going to say, though, that
Clemson's going to be able to pullit out because I've seen some progression from
Kate Klubnick, and you're going tohave Antonio Williams back. Yes, Tyler

(01:27:49):
Brown's going to have a big game, and Bo Collins is going to make
a few receptions here that's going tokeep some Drives Alive and then it's going
to be the Will Shipley and Fieldoffa show as the Tigers will win twenty
three to seventeen, twenty three seventeenon the record, we both got the
Tigers. Hey, you've got theTigers coming up here live on WSC.
You can catch the game eight pmhard Rock Stadium. You're gonna hear Don

(01:28:09):
Munson on the call. Want toremind you as well. It all starts
in Nashville with the Harris Cherokee Centerz Own Ashville Championship. It's brought to
you by Ingles Markets. Go getthe tickets now at Asheville Championship dot com.
Clemson, Maryland. Davidson and UABwill be showcased in that fine event
up there, and it's a greatevent. Looking forward to seeing it myself.
For Richmond Weaver, for Will Vandervoard, for Don Munson, and for

(01:28:29):
our buddy Trey Falco Beck in studioproducing this fine show. I'm John LC
next week on the Ingles Tailgate Show. Enjoy the Clemson game tonight
