join us here live from Little John's. Ingles Tailgate Show is live and ready.
Get you set for Georgia Tech andClub in noon kickoff today. I'm
John Ellis and my buddy Richmond Weaveris here. And you were back from
a great experience last night in Ashvilleat the Ashville Championship and sipping some coffee

(01:11):
and keeping those juices flowing. Myfriend, Oh, yes, need a
little bit of caffeine as I wasin Nashville late as the Tigers get a
nice victory there against UAB seventy sevento seventy six last second free throws there
by Chase Hunter with about three pointfour seconds to go, and just a
fantastic win and a fantastic event. Also the multi team event, the Ashville

(01:33):
Championship proudly sponsored by our friends atIngles Markets, and they do a fantastic
job up there. And I've usedthe word fantastic I think five times right
in thirty seconds was fantastic. It'sa great word to use for this great
event. Ingles is sponsoring it asalways, and it's gonna be fun to
see what happens coming up tomorrow. Is they're gonna score off with I believe

(01:53):
Davidson with Davidson, Yes. Andwhat is interesting that I did like about
this tournament, and ibviously with anyof the multi team events, that you
have a high caliber of opportunities withopponents, and what Clemson's been able to
do being in some of these typeof events where we know last year the
strength of schedule hurt Clemson, andobviously when you lose some of those games

(02:15):
where you should have won, likea South Carolina game, that is an
opportunity now this season, can youlook at scenarios to increase your non conference
schedule, And Clemson was able todo that this year. In one of
those areas is playing in a multiteam event like the Ashville Championship last night

(02:35):
and now having an opportunity to playDavidson in the championship game. But it's
also when you looked at the field, you had UAB there, you had
Maryland, Davidson, and obviously Clemson. And what I disliked because you know,
I'm the history guy. I loveall the history type stuff. And
so when you look at Maryland,Clemson, and Davidson, they all three

(02:57):
used to be part of the SouthernConference, right's othern conference roots. And
then obviously we know the Southern Conferenceplaying their tournament championship in Ashville, so
it all comes full circle. Andhad the opportunity of being up there last
night for both of those games andlooking forward to going back up there to
Ashville tomorrow. But we've got collegefootball today here in Clemson, and it's

(03:21):
a little bit of deja vus backto back noon games and knowing that,
yes, the rain might have dampenedsome of the spirits in terms of some
of the early tailgaters, but there'sstill some people out here already set up,
getting set up. Yes, sowe know in about thirty forty five
minutes it's going to be hopping overhere at Little John. Unfortunately, for

(03:44):
those listening to us on the iHeartRadioapp or ninety two point five WSC,
you can ever smell what we smellout here in terms of the home cooking,
the tailgating, but you can comeon out and see us. So
we're here until nine a m.Getting you ready for this big game.
And of course I want to remindyou Engles is your tailgating headquarters. Stop
it and see our friends at Inglesthis morning. Get anything you need for
the last minute tailgateting needs. Youmight have low prices, love the savings

(04:09):
at Ingles dash markets dot com.I'll tell you something, rarely do you
see a team Richmond as we lookback at what happened last week, sitting
there at four and four and thenall the narrative and conversation had been about
coach Swinney on Tiger calls, andI know we both had a chance to
talk with our good buddy Don Mounsonabout this, who hosts that show play
by play Voice of the Tigers. He called into my show this week game

(04:30):
on on one of four nine FoxSports Upstate, and he actually Don brought
a little levity to it. Hecalled in his Dondler from Clemson just came
in as a is a you know, impromptu Clemson fan, and we knew
right away it was Don, Icould tell. But good try Don,
what a steak one bias. Butwe talked about this and you, you
and I have had this conversation toowhen you come in and the expectations a

(04:54):
word that Davis Whinny is used alot in those press conferences, in these
Tiger call shows to the media, the expectations sometimes do outweigh the appreciation when
you build what they have built here, the consecutive double digit winning seasons,
two national championships in the last fiveor six years, a wealth of NFL
talent that now resides on that nextlevel. But really, do you get

(05:15):
to see this team with an opportunityto not only get a big win at
four and four lately because that seemsto be territory you don't want to be
swimming in and you don't. Butit's a monumental win to beat a number
twelve team in the country, NotreDame, with that physicality. And we'll
talk about Dabo's record setting clip thathe got a hold of. But man,
as Dabo said, if you gobuy some stock, do it now,
this is a great time to buyClemson stock. What a win that

(05:38):
was last week. Laying it allout on the line. Dabo Sweeney once
again is the master as far ascoming up with some type of talking point,
especially at the end of the game. Obviously, back in twenty fifteen,
I think one of the things thatreally put Dabbo on the map in
terms of Dabo isms, and that'sbyog bring your own guts, and then

(06:00):
now follow that up here in twentytwenty three against Notre Dame and have the
opportunity to let the nation know youbetter be buying some stocking Clemson because and
I do agree with him that weknow that there's trajectories that happen in all
aspects of life, businesses, sports, teams, whatever it might be,

(06:20):
and the trajectory for success is notalways linear. It's not always continuing to
go up each and every year. Now you might have some dips, but
overall, if you look at itfrom a perspective of a ten year span,
a fifteen year span, twenty yearspan, and as long as that
trajectory is continuing to climb, eventhough you might have some dips, that's

(06:44):
the definition of a healthy organization,a healthy team. However you want to
describe what Clemson is from an athleticstandpoint, but that's what Dabo has been
able to do. And I thinkthat's what he was trying to send that
message about the appreciation versus the expectation. You can still have expectations of success
and John, you know, DavosSweeney has expectations of wanting to win,

(07:11):
and I think even more so thanthese fans do, because that's his livelihood.
And he's investing so much into thisprogram because he's investing the one thing
that we can never get back, and that's time. And I understand,
yes, he's making a lot ofmoney, but in my mind that's almost
irrelevant as far as how much thesecoaches are making and how much these players

(07:32):
might have opportunity from nil. They'regoing out there and they're competing because they
don't want to let the fans down, they don't want to let their teammates
down. That's a big part ofit. And hopefully now with the opportunity
of getting somewhat back on track, getting the win against Notre Dame in the
Valley and then now can you followthat up with a win here against Georgia

(07:55):
Tech. But it does help obviouslyfor Clemson that week it was a home
game in the Valley, and weknow how difficult it is for teams to
come here in Death Valley. AsClemson was able to be another AP Top
twenty team, and so that's nineconsecutive years that they've been able to beat
a AP Top twenty team, andthat's the longest streak in the nation right

(08:18):
now. It is. It remindsyou and if you're a Clemson fan,
you know this well. We knowthis well. We've covered this team together
on this show. Fourth season now, we've been doing this show brought to
you by Ingles, of course, and we know as well as anyone throughout
some of the good times in termsof national championship runs and even now where
you're working hard to not only beBowl eligible, which they still have an

(08:41):
opportunity to be right now, butyou can find again Dabbo, who's talked
about the joy, that the funis in the winning, and I've often
said this. NFL coaches say thisall the time that winning is the ultimate
deodorant, and it's the ultimate disinfectant. It's the ultimate fix. You just
go out and win a game. You know, it's euphoria. As a

(09:01):
former coach yourself on the basketball circuit, just winning a game, even if
your record is not where you wantit to be, it fixes the whole
outlook moving forward. It's just nightand day right now, especially when you
do it against the top twelve team. And it's interesting you say that because
there's also, as you mentioned, just getting a win and how that changes
because you get to experience it andthe mind changes how your outlook. And

(09:26):
I even look at it on amicro level, like in college basketball and
Joe Girard, the transfer from Sarahcuse. Watching him play last night, it
seemed that he's pressing a little bit, wanting to live up to some of
the expectations as a guy coming intoClemson averaging sixteen points a game last season,

(09:46):
Sarahcuse and I felt that he wastrying to do too much and you
could tell he was getting frustrated becausehis shots weren't going in. But he
got to the free throw line. And how many times do we talk about
that, John saw the ball gothrough the net, confidence just seeing Okay,
now I remember, I know whatit looks like of going through that

(10:09):
net. And he had a bigthree pointer there in the second half that
helped propel the Tigers ultimately to avictory. And the same can be said
out on the football field, whichyou talked about. John Compson just needed
a taste of winning again and theywere able to get that and understanding,
Okay, this is what it's like, this is how we prepared, this
is what we did to get tothis point in beating a Notre Dame team.

(10:33):
And we know Notre Dame is avery physical team, and I just
think that Clemson was able to showcasetheir physicality, especially on the offensive line,
opening up some of those holes, allowing the physicality of Phil Maffa to
shine. Physicality was the word djore this time. A week ago.
We talked about it on this show. We talked about it, whether the

(10:54):
friends over there on the Eagles Tigertailgate show as well. Physicality was going
to be everything, and in agame where kay Klubnick, with this new
dirt raid offense that Garrett Riley hasbrought here, has maybe been put in
a situation where there's too much onhis play to times. Simplification is the
word I kept using all week.Simplify, Simplify, and they did that
even with their blocking schemes. Youheard a good friend, Lavin Kirkland,

(11:16):
talking with Will Vandervold on the Believein Clemson Football podcast this week, and
he brought up a good point asa former player, you go to more
of a zone blocking scheme, yousimplify, you take the RPO out of
it. Because we knew kay Klubnickwas going to have issues with that leg
injury that he was suffering from lastweek. Phil Maffa thirty six carries one
hundred and eighty six yards five yardsof pop forty one yarder for the touchdown,

(11:39):
of course, and he had twotouchdowns in this game, and that
was great to see. Richmond. And how about Dominique Thomas Steffan the spark
plug looks like Maurice Jones drew outthere, got five to eight about two
twenty. He's stout, he's quick, and that was good to see.
With Will Shipley on the sidelines,Dominique Thomas stepping in the team together ran
forty six times, forty three times. I just say for a buck seventy
six, that's the formula. Brindthe clock, keep the hands out of

(12:03):
the keep the ball in the handsof Sam Hartman, who will get to
him in a minute here. Butthat was a great win and they matched
the physicality Notre Dame. You knewwith Stime and company that were going to
run the ball. Great job bythis offensive line in this running back group
getting it done in that department.Dominique Thomas a didn't play a whole lot,
but the time he was out theremade some big plays. His nickname
is Quadzilla, and there's a reasonwhy because he is very hard to bring

(12:28):
down. And this is a guywho's deadlifting seven hundred pounds crazy, it's
insane based on his size and KD. Klubnick actually talked about there was a
run there that Dominique Thomas had wherehe breaks like three tackles and is able
to get a big ten yard gainand that wasn't necessarily a backbreaking moment against

(12:50):
Notre Dame, but it was justagain signifying confidence for the Tigers that they
could match the physicality of Notre Dame. And you talk about the running back
for Notre Dame estimate. I'm stillsurprised how Marcus Freeman went away from estimate
there because he was having a lotof success early on. Now, I

(13:11):
think Wes Goodwin was able to makesome adjustments there after that first quarter and
change things up a little bit defensivelyand allowed the Tigers obviously to get some
key stops and a big part ofthose key stops was Jeremiah Trotter Junior all
over the place. Oh my goodness, let's talk about Jeremiah Trotter Junior,
a second generation player, of course, one of four Clemson Tigers to win

(13:35):
acc Player of the Week at hisselected position group, along with Aidan Swanson,
who, by the way, hadan amazing game. You and I
have talked with Aiden before, notonly on your podcast but on our shows
on Fox Sports Upstate. He hada great game in terms of field position.
Will Putnam great job. He gota nomination this week as well,
and Phil MafA is what we talkedabout him, but Jeremy Trotter, Junior

(13:56):
Richmond, he is the heartbeat ofthis defense. There is no question about
it. We've talked about that timeand time again. And the game he
had not just the tackling. Hehad two and a half tackles for loss.
The two sacks were huge, eleventackle, seven solo. But to
get a pick six is everything fora linebacker. It is everything. What
a game this young man had, just the rock on this defense. I'm

(14:18):
going to give you another name too, and you interviewed this guy last week,
Demante kpe Park, Yes, whocame in and we talked about him
on this show and also the InglesTiger Tailgate show as well. He had
a tackle and a half for aloss last week Richmond at the nose tackle
position, and he was giving thema lot of fits there inside defensively.
The other thing you look at too, all the guys you want to be

(14:41):
stepping up, Barrett Carter, PeterWoods, Khalil Barnes having a great job
in that game in coverage, RukerRowerro making impacts at the line at Macouba
as well. Great job not onlytackling, at the line of scrimmage,
but in coverage, they had alot of guys that were refreshmen playing late
in the game in the secondary, and they he got the Sam Hartman and

(15:01):
Sam Hartman ends his college career presumablywithout any wins against Clemson. How about
that zero to five against the Tigers, And that's hard to believe based on
Sam Hartman. He has done right, Yes, we think so. He's
not going to bon route. Yeah, I don't think so. I think
this is his last year of eligibility. But as you mentioned, Jeremiah Trotter
junior there ACC Linebacker of the Week, Walter Camp National Player of the Week,

(15:26):
Chuck Banernik Award Player of the Week, Bronco Negirsky National Defensive Player of
the Week. So this guy isjust continuing to rack up accolades each and
every game and it's a big partof why the Tigers are having success.
But you talked about it also,John, just a perspective of Clemson's playing
a lot of these younger guys. When you see like a Khalil Barnes out

(15:50):
there, true freshman in the secondary, and then how about Kylon Griffin getting
a start as a red shirt freshmanout there getting an interception and the opportunity
of talking with Kylon earlier this week, and he gets the interception and he
has thoughts of Okay, I gottarun this back. I'm gonna run this

(16:11):
back. I want my own picksix. And as he's telling me,
as he's running, he sees BarrettCarter at his peripheral vision and then he
hears Barrett Carter saying, get down, get down, get down. Veteran
move, by the way, ButBarret Carter, yes, exactly, and
so yeah, Kylin, he does. He gets down, but he says,

(16:32):
man, I don't know, shouldI have tried to score? He
listened to one of his leaders outthere, Barrett Carter. He did the
right thing and got down. Therewas the veteran move, of course,
Barrett Carter directing traffic out there, because we've seen so many times where player
tries to take a pick six backwhen he doesn't need to fumble. And
for Clemson's luck this year, thatwould have been just their luck for that
happened. So I think that's agood veteran play. Hartman finished thirteen of

(16:53):
thirty Richmond one hundred and forty sixyards, two interceptions, that's a great
performance by this defensive secondary. Thepass rush was exceptional. The run game,
as you said, for Notre Dame, got running early, but they
were able to sort of stabilize thatand a lot of their run if you
look at the under one hundred andeighty three yards, they had, over
a third of that was Sam Hartmanon scrambles. So again, the running
backs themselves just had just around onehundred and five hundred ten yards rushing in

(17:18):
this game. So overall, areally good job by this defense last week
containing what they had to contain andestimate eighty seven yards and I'd have to
go look at the stats to breakit down, but as far as I
remember, he had about seventy inthe first quarters. Quarter Again, he
only had three carries for five yardsthere in the second half, so they
did not utilize him at all,And again I think that's a good job

(17:41):
by Wes Goodwin. They're making someadjustments there on the defensive side. And
we've seen it so many times thateven with Brent Vinnables, this was one
of the staples of Clemson defense.Bend but don't break mentality. Now,
we saw that there would be timeseven with Brent Vinnables. Clemson would give

(18:03):
up some big plays, but whenit mattered, when teams got into the
red zone, Clemson was going tostifle those defenses. And that's what happened
in this game, holding Notre Dameto field goals there in that first half
three field goals for nine points, and that changed the Obviously, if Notre
Dame is able to get in thered zone and get a touchdown on say

(18:25):
one or two of those possessions,it's obviously a different game Notre Dame in
the second half before we hit abrick is a good will vanaworth standing by
from the Clemson Insider. In thesecond half, they had a touchdown,
but it was a one play, two yard drive off the turnover that Notre
Dame. That is the rest oftheir drives after the second touchdown, they
had three and out, four andout, They had another three and out,
They had a fourth three and out, if you will, and then

(18:48):
the interception turnover on downs when itmattered the most. This defense, led
by coordinator Wes Goodwin and the entirestaff there did a great job of locking
down and coming up next, we'regoing to talk about what's ahead today on
a Veterans Day Military Appreciation day downhere Clemson against Georgia Tech. A team
that knows how to run the ball, but where are they soft work and
Clemson exploit this team? A verygood team coming to town today. Will

(19:11):
Vanderward from the Clemson Insider stops byto give us his perspective on that.
Come on out and see us.We're live outside of a little John Coliseum,
tailgating with you all the way upuntil nine am. The Ingles Tailgate
Show continues right here on ninety twopoint five w SC. This is the
Ingles Tailgate Show on ninety two pointfive w E SSE. Now Here are

(19:33):
your hosts, John Ellis and RichmondWeavers stumble of the cage and for myself
a cup of ambition and the worstnever stops here on the Ingles Tailgates Show,

(19:53):
giving you live coverage of what liesahead today for this Clemson Tigers team.
You got George Tech coming to town. It's a good team. They're
rolling high, they're looking good inthe ACC standings right now, and they've
got some firepower on offense, sittingthere at four and two in the conference.
Right now. They come calling. It's Clemson host Georgia Tech coming up
today. You can hear all theaction at noon Eastern on ninety two point

(20:15):
five w EESC or on the iHeartRadioapp. I'm John Elst That's Richmond.
We were We got Trey Falco backin studio producing as always, and as
always, it's time to take aninside look at this Clemson Tigers program.
Joined by our good friend Will Vandervoord. He is the host of the Believe
in Clemson Football podcast with our goodfriend l von Kirkland and also does a
great job covering this team for theClemson Insider dot Com. Will Vandervord,

(20:38):
Welcome to the show, my friend, Hey John Richmond, how's it going
out to eas Staying dry? Uh? So far? Staying dry, trying
to stay awake. Richmond had along night last night. He did color
commentary for ESPN last night for thisbig game with up the Ashfield Championship Championship.
Yes, that's what we got totalk about that first, mister,
Will Van Dervoord. The Tiger getthe victory seventy seven to seventy six last

(21:03):
night against a scrappy UA B teamled by Annie Andy Kennedy, who is
a really good coach, obviously alot of experience. But PJ Hall,
big game there for the Tigers, and then Chase hunter Will getting two free
throws with about three seconds left inthat game. Your thoughts on what you
were able to see with the Tigersgetting that victory. I'll tell you the

(21:27):
thing that I think about with thatgame, that's a game last year's Fuction
might have lost. The year beforedefinitely would have lost. I think you
know, Brad said it best atthe end of the game yesterday when he
said that as PJ and Chase, that's that's why you had those veteran guys
right there. That's veteran experience.PJ making that big rebound and one there

(21:49):
that that put once up there beforetheir three pointer that gave them the one
point lead. And then Chase justcoming down there first of all creating contact
drawing the foul, which is holdto do at the end of the game.
We all know that because the officialsdon't generally want us. They want
to swallow the whistle and let peopleplay if they have to if they can
at the end. And so forhim to get down there and draw fowls

(22:10):
huge and then to have the presenceof mind the step, and the team
hadn't sh shot well the foul linethe whole night. I remember there was
seventeen of twenty seven from the foulline last night, and so for him
to step up there and make thosetwo clutch free throws was huge and it
really does show how different this teamis. It didn't shoot the ball well
at all, yet they found away against a very scrappy UAB team who

(22:33):
pressures you the entire time and triesto wear you down. I think Clemson's
depth showed up last night, andthat's why they were able to win that
game because they just you know, they got They played what twelve guys last
night, and when you could playthat many guys, gives you a chance
to stay in a game like thatand give you a chance to win,
no question about it. UAB wasable to employ that one three one trap

(22:56):
there in the second half that wasreally given Clemson a lot of fits.
And it was the Tigers that werestruggling there in the first half, as
you mentioned, will from beyond thearc one of ten at one point in
that first half, but able tohit four of eight there in the second
half, and that obviously helped, but it was the veteran leadership by PJ
Hall just the And I know, will we talk about PJ Hall his skill

(23:21):
set and obviously being able to bein the low block, the post play,
but having him also be able tostep outside and knock down some three
pointers. But I don't know ifwe talk enough about still his blue collar
mentality and what he was able todo. Is you talked about the rebound
and put back getting fouled there,he just continued to stay after the ball,

(23:44):
stay after the ball, and thatjust showcased just again how of a
hard worker he is in combination withhis skill set. Yeah, I mean
finished twenty great stat line, twentyseven point nine rebounds he had to assist,
and then three block shots which allcame in the second half. He
was, like you said, itwas a scrappy performance by him, no

(24:07):
doubt, you know, playing aswell as he did it. But the
rebound, that rebound and put backat the end was huge in the sense
that Clemson hadn't rebounded offensive glass.Oh my, I mean they were killed
on the on the boards last night, and I think it was thirty nine
to twenty six or something like that. At the end of the game,
and I think they had a tento five advantage on offensive rebounds, and

(24:29):
so for Clemson to at that moment, when the game's on the line,
for PJ Tos to say, youknow what, I don't care how to
flow. The game's been going,I'm gonna go make it played. He
hits the glass, grabs that ballthere, and just puts it back in
an emphatic fashion, you know. And that's what I love about PJ is
his emotion, that rock emotion.Sometimes coaches don't like it because you want

(24:51):
a guy to stay, you know, keep that level lying. But there's
times in a game when you needthat emotion and PJ seems to bring it
when they need it the most everytime. We've seen that all last year,
and we're already seeing that earlier thisseason where he just makes that play
and then shows that emotion that says, I'm not going to lose this game.
That's right. I'm gonna do everythingI can not to And that's what

(25:12):
Clemson thees. And that's one ofthe pieces I love about this team is
a healthy PJ. Hall and whathe can do in crunch time. And
he showed that last night. Hedefinitely did. And well, I gotta
be careful here because this is theIngles Tailgate Show. We need to talk
about football. I could talk aboutbasketball all day long. I love it.

(25:34):
Look it's it's ironically enough. Anddo not pardon the pun. It's
crossover season. Yes, we knowhere in the world's very intended. We
had to spot Dribbler in the Clemsonmedia. Is Tod Summers of Channel seven
Oh mentioned around shooting at the gymdoing baseball regional a few years back,

(25:56):
and we're just you know, wewere in Jervy gym and we had a
basketball on hand, so we juststart messing around and Todd just made me.
I like to take pride in mydefense. Now I just cheat a
little bit, but I like totake pride. I was a strong defensive
player. They hold a little bit. That's what I mean. I need
Todd Summer's Richmond Weaver one on onebattle. We need for charity. We
need to set that up. Justgot a crossover that will get hit me.

(26:19):
He broke my ankles. Well, you know, he's really good.
We're all men of certain age, will you know those ankles go fast?
And uh, Fortunately for Clemson lastweek on the football side, the ankles
and the feet and the legs ofPhil Maffa really carried this team in a
large way. And I'm going togo back to something I heard you guys

(26:40):
talking about on your podcast Believe inClemson Football with a Von Kirkland. And
you know, we heard the commentsfrom Deaba Sweeney, this was a tough
week of practice. Now we knowthe comments that came out from DBA Sweeney
about and the appreciation expectations Tyler fromSpartanburg, all that narrative, But talk
about that from your reporting, yourperspective, How hard did coach Tweny work
this team this week and let themknow, hey, look, we're all

(27:03):
in this together, and and nobodygets a free pass here. Yeah,
it was one of the hardest practicesthey've had in quite some time on Tuesday
and Wednesday of the Notre Dame League. And you know, usually during the
season they try to hold back.I mean they'll go they'll go live one
day and and they'll try to,you know, maybe hold back a little

(27:25):
because you want to save it forthe game you want. During the season,
it's all about keeping guys healthy becauseif you hit all the time,
there's gonna be nobody available, rightand but they knew the physicality Notre Dame
was gonna bring. He also sawthat maybe they weren't playing up to the
potential physically at that point in theseason. And so Dad was like,
you know what, we're opening itup. This is every man for himself

(27:47):
in practice right now. We needto we need to go live, and
we need to hit. And andso they had some hard hitting practices and
uh, you know for a coupleof days there on Tuesday and Wednesday,
and Tuesday I think is usually they'rehard this hitting day, and it was
really physical from what I heard, and a lot of guys got banked up,
as we saw on the injury reportthat came out prior to the game.

(28:08):
And you know that's you know, that's the risk you take. But
at the same time, you senta message to your team the hey,
we're gonna go play physical, andyeah, we may lose some guys because
of it, but you know,we're gonna take the guys we do have
and we'll go out there. We'regonna show them what we're all about.
That's kind of what last week was. And and you saw that on the
field because I think Clempston, withouta doubt, was the more physical team.

(28:33):
And if you remember a year ago, it was Notre Dame that was
the more physical team, and NotreDame kind of came to a play a
fight and Clemson came to play afootball game. Well, last week it
reversed. Clemson came to fight andNotre Dame came to play a football game.
Is my good colleague Leavon always says, it's that team that wants to
fight that's always gonna win a gamelike that, and Clinton wanted to fight
last week and it showed and theyended up getting a big, big win

(28:57):
for what it means for this season. Will Van Dervoort is our guest from
the Clemson Insider dot com. Wedon't often talk about special teams. In
fact, we don't talk about itenough at all, not only on this
show, but the entire nation. The special teams last week, Jonathan Whites's
lot's been made of him. Perfecton extra points, perfect from field goal

(29:17):
perspective. Hamp Green did a nicejob. I thought almost ten yards per
punt return. The coverage units weregreat. They limited what was happening there
from a return perspective. Very muchin check and Notre Dame didn't getting a
lot of opportunities to return kicks.Zero point zero yard average on punt returns.
And how about you know, justagain how impactful it is to control

(29:38):
field position. And Kay Klubnick onthe ppo as Dablos when he called the
punt pass option doing a quick kick, how vital was field positioned in special
teams in this game Considering a yearago the special teams melted down up there
at South ben It was huge. And then that's another area. Debo challenged
those guys to step up and bethe difference this year or and not be

(30:00):
the reason right that that those words, those beings, they mean everything,
you know, and they were thedifference in the game the other day because
they made plays like you mentioned hampGreen. I thought that was the moment
that said, Okay, Clemson's hereto play. When hamp Green takes that
punt return and goes sixteen yards andsets up Phil Maffa's forty one yard touchdown

(30:22):
run on the next play, thatkind of set the temple, I thought
for what the day was gonna be. And you know, he had a
couple of other good returns you mentionedfield position, Kay Klebnick, you know
he's not gonna steal Adam Swanson's joblike that, but man, what a
what a Danny White Like I'm gonnabring out the old name that was.

(30:45):
You know, it was just itwas just it was a good punt,
I mean, and it really setthe stage for that whole fourth quarter because
you know, Clemson couldn't put thegame away, but yet they kept putting
Notre Dame for the last six possessions. I'm going to try to just top
top of my head. I believeit was the four yard line, the
fourteen, the seven, the six, I think I want to say the

(31:07):
seven again, and then the twentytwo yard line. Those were their last
six possessions of the game, andeither of those first five were all punts
that nailed inside the twenty yard line, five of them inside the ten yard
line at agents. Watson just dida tremendous job just keeping them backed up
the entire fourth quarter, and sothat was huge for Clemson and it turned

(31:30):
out to be the difference in thegame when in a fourth quarter that became
a defensive slug fest, like wethought the whole game was going to be.
The first half totally surprised us,I think all of us with the
way the offenses were moving the ball. But then the second half things settled
down and the two defenses took overand it was Clemson special teams that allow
Clemson to get the edge there atthe end of the game. Will Vandervoord

(31:52):
is our guest from The Clemson Insiderand also a co host of the Believe
in Clemson podcast that he co hostwith Levon Kirklands. We'll make sure you
check that out wherever you get yourpodcast, and you can actually do that
through the iHeartRadio apps, so makesure you download that through the app store
or on Google Play. And willyou talk about Kate Klubnick and his pooch

(32:14):
punt right there and inside the fouryard line. I did talk to Kate
and he told me that he hada few words to aiden in terms of,
Hey, you thought you were goodgetting five inside the twenty, how
about that one inside the four yardline? So I think they've got a
competition amongst the two of them there. But you also mentioned Phil MafA and

(32:36):
physicality. This was finally an opportunitythat I think a lot of Clemson fans
got to see what Phil MafA cando. And we've talked about just how
his physicality, especially after contact, how he continues to be a guy that's
very difficult to bring down and canstill gain yards once he's first hit.

(32:57):
Yeah, he was tremendous first ofall, and just what I always like
to say, getting skinny and andand just knowing where that crease is and
being patient and waiting for it.And that's the key to any kind of
running for a running back. Yougotta be patient and you got to wait
for that. Especially in the zoneblocking schemes that they were running last week,
you got to wait for something toopen up. You just can't go

(33:19):
hit what you think is there. You gotta wait on that offensive lineman to
open that up to get to thatsecond level for you. And he did
a very good job of doing thatlast week, using his blocks to get
upfield. And just you know,I told Levon in there, and you
know, Levon saw this guy runup close to personal a entire career at
Pittsburgh. But you know, remindedme of a small version of of Jerome

(33:40):
Vettis because he's got those nimble feetand he's able to cut back real fast.
And that's what gives him that abilityand then he's got the power to
run over you. And you sawthat last week and it really wore down
Notre Dame. And you know thenyou know, as I mentioned Jerome Vettics,
but it was Clinton's Laurie. Itwas more of a Ragin and Priester
like, yeah efforts. He hadthirty six carries to match Raymonds harry total

(34:04):
from nineteen ninety seven, the longestimagine that guy's just been since what's that
twenty six years ago when Raymond Priescherdid that about the same time of the
year against Maryland. I remember thatgame shows. Yeah, old I am
and you know just how you know, dominant he was at that time for
Clinton running the football. Well, that's what it reminded me of last week.
I was like, man, amI back in the mid nineties,
yere watching Clinton just line up andhand the ball off the number seven there

(34:29):
and just you know, just poundedstraight ahead and you know he's getting five,
six, seven, eight, nine, ten yards to carry. You
know. It was as a guywho loved physical football and defense and run
football, I loved last week, man, that was my kind of football
game. That was a Will VanderwardSpecial Awards. Way to dial it up,
Will, Yes, they looked likethe old Steelers without Matt. Canada

(34:52):
of course coordinated Austin as they're fiveand three, but they've been out gained
in each of those games. Hatsoff to the Hey, it's a big
game. In about a minute orless here just a key to victory here
for Clinton with a Georgia Tech teamwith Haines King that can run and pass.
They can run the ball as wellas any team in this conference,
but they have a weakness on defense. And I think you know where I'm

(35:12):
going with this. Yeah, Ithink Clemson can do what they want to
offensively, Guys. I think thisis a get right kind of game for
them on the offensive side of theball. With that said, though,
their defense is gonna need them toplay very well today because as good as
Pumpson's defense is, Georgia Tech's offenseis gonna match it. I mean,
they're that good offensively, and they'regonna they're two hundred and two hundred also,

(35:35):
right, I mean they're the mostbalanced but probably offense in the ACC.
Yep, you know, so Clinton'sgonna their defense is gonna be challenged
like they haven't been since the FloridaState game, and they're you know,
so the offense has got to cometo play. They can't and here's the
key, guys. They can't turnthe ball over. They can't give Georgia
Tech extra possessions. They can't giveGeorgia Tech the ball to the one yard

(35:57):
line like they've done it seems likealmost every week. You know, they
have to take care of the footballbecause they need to take care of their
defense. This is a time whenthe defense is going to need some help
on the offense and Clinton's offense hasgot to come to play today take care
of the football. If they dothat, they'll win this game. And
I think they'll win it comfortably becauseI do think Clinch's defense is going to
make enough stops and it's going tocome down to the offense execute and is

(36:21):
able to, you know, putthose extra points on the board that they
haven't been able to do last monthor so. Follow him at Steeler Will
on Twitter X. It's Will Vanderfordfrom The Clemson Insider, host of the
Believe in Clemson Football podcast with LevonKirkland. Will thanks for your time,
as always, enjoy the game. We'll catch up with you next week.
My friend. I guys have fun, man, stay would dry out there.
We're doing it man, We're tailgatingout here with our friends from Ingles

(36:45):
as well as all the fans thatare starting to cycle in here. Quick
break, we'll come back talk aboutwhat's going on around the ACC starts to
look ahead at what's going on inthe next hour. We got OTD on
this day with rich and Weaver andsome of the key matchups and storylines in
the top twenty five, including whatthe he thanks going on with Jim Harball
and Michigan will give you the lateston that is. The Ingles Tailgate Show
rolls on live from Little John Coliseumright here on ninety two point five WSC.

(37:09):
This is the Ingles Tailgate Show onninety two point five w E SSE.
I wanna give a shout out toall the veterans here across our land

(37:30):
on Veterans Day live from Clemson onMilitary Appreciation Day. A salute to each
and every one of y'all out there. Thank you for all you've done and
all you continue to do to protectour freedoms in this country. As we
come to you live outside of LittleJohn Coliseum. I'm John Ellis. That's
Richmond Weaver, Trey Founco producing. As always, it's the Ingles tail Gate

(37:52):
Show. I want to remind you, hey, it's basketball season as well.
And Richmond Weaver last night was atthe Ashville Championship up there, brought
to you by Ingles, and lookto tell you some tickets are still on
sale. Go to Ashville Championship dotcom because you've got some great basketball tomorrow,
Richmond up there live from the HarrisCherokee Center, Ashville Championship dot Com.
It's all brought to you by EnglesLow Prices, Love the Savings,

(38:14):
Yes, and a fantastic event. And I've used that word several times fantastic,
but it truly was, and agreat opportunity now with college basketball tipping
off, we saw the Tigers getthe win last Monday against Winthrop and then
also obviously last night the big victoryagainst UAB and now we'll be in the
championship bracket for first place there againstDavidson College, and this will be a

(38:38):
hard vault game. Davidson is areally young team, but they're skilled.
They have a lot of basketball IQand so that game will follow the first
game there for third and fourth place, with Maryland taking on UAB tipping off
at twelve thirty, and the Tigerswill follow that game in Ashville. And
so if you don't have your tickets, go to Ashville Championship dot com to

(39:01):
get your tickets and cheer on theTigers there in Ashville. So can the
Tigers get the victory here in Clemsontoday against Georgia Tech on the football side,
and then obviously then can you getup there and support the Tigers on
the men's basketball side. But ifyou're not able to get to Ashville tomorrow
and you want to stick closer tohere for some college basketball, check out

(39:22):
the women's team at two o'clock tomorrow. As Amanda Butler is on the path
to driving success here with the women'sbasketball team as they get the victory eighty
five to fifty five last night againstCharleston Southern and a Mario Robinson had a
big game there for the lady Tigersand so they'll be back in action in

(39:45):
Little John Coliseum tomorrow. Yeah, big time deal with this Clemson basketball team.
I think the expectations are high thisyear. You've seen how they're coming
together offensively, they got scorers onthis team this year with PJ Hall leaning
the way there, and I thinkthey had a twenty one to twenty t
cyst in that game we mentioned earlier, Yes, yeah, And I think
that was one of the things thatearly on in that game against UAB,

(40:07):
they had some success and then UABwent to a one to three one trap
and it slowed Clemson's off his offensiverhythm down for a period of time.
But it was just the depth ofClemson that was just too much. As
two key players there in the frontcourt for UAB foiuled out because they couldn't
defend PJ. Hall. It wasjust it was just too much to defend

(40:30):
PJ Hall. And then obviously ChaseHunter had a really good game also down
the stretch, making some big playsgetting to the basket, getting to the
rim, and was able to dothat after UAB hits a huge three pointer
in the corner that gives them thelead, and with just just over nine
seconds to go, Clemson has togo full length of the court and Chase

(40:52):
Hunter that is going downhill basically andgets to the rim and gets fouled on
his way there, and again toobig for he throws there for Chase Hunter
with three seconds to go. Well, we get back into the world of
football here, we're gonna hit abreak in just a second. I want
to remind you there's a lot goingon in the ACC in terms of football.
Florida State's got a big game today. We'll talk about that in the

(41:13):
next segment. But last night,in fact, a couple of nights ago,
Louisville gets the big win. They'renine to one now Richmond thirty one
twenty four over Virginia, and itwas a scare. Look Tony Elliott's team,
they are playing people tough every singleweek. They fall to two and
eight in Louisville right now in theconference. This is big. They stay
at six and one and a gameback at Florida State and keeping themselves in

(41:35):
good position here to meet up atFlorida State coming up here in a few
weeks in Charlotte. Yeah, andthis is a Louisville team that they control
their destiny now in terms of gettingto Charlotte and facing looks obviously it's going
to be Florida State, just howFlorida State's been playing. But Virginia with
Toniello, they just continue to bea team that competes, and this was
a Louisville team that it was adouble digit favor favor coming into that game

(42:00):
and it wasn't until a late touchdownthere by Louisville on a big run and
also prayers out to the running backthere Jones for Virginia carted off the field
and was still in the hospital asof last night. Hopefully things will progress
that he will be released soon.Yeah, no doubt about it. A

(42:22):
full slate of acc action coming up. We'll hit a break real quick come
back. We'll talk about all thegames in conference to day. Some of
the matchups including are good friend MelissaLiverpool mingles her Florida State Seminals taken on
a hated rival today, a teamthat's unpredictable in Miami. We'll get to
that. We'll start talking about what'sgoing on in the top twenty five later
in the next hour with Jim Harball. What's the latest. We'll give you

(42:43):
what we know and if anything breaksduring this show, of course, we'll
bring it to you and some ofthe big matchups coming up today around the
country. This is the Ingles TailgateShow on a Veterans Day. Beautiful day
here in terms of just fall weather. It's a little drizzly, but come
on out and see us until nineam. Right here on ninety two point
five WeSC. This is the InglesTailgate Show on ninety two point five w

(43:07):
e SC. Now here are yourhosts, John Ellis and Richmond Weaver.
The rain has let up. It'sa nice crisp fall day here in Clemson.

(43:30):
Little drizzle, it's okay, wecan We'll stand that considering the Byog
game was a monsoon, was ahurricane, literally a tropical depression, whatever
you want to call it. Thisis small pickings right here. We got
a good crowd coming out here outsideof Little John Colis. See, I'm
getting you ready for network coverage ofthe Clemson Tigers coming up against Georgia Tech.
The Ingles Tailgate Show rolls off righthere on WSC. I was here

(43:52):
for that game in twenty fifteen againstNotre Dame, so I can attest firsthand
just the rain was a lot differentthan what we have right now. And
it was also funny talking with MarkPacker, obviously great Mark Packer and catching
him on the ACC network these days, but he had talked about just from

(44:13):
the perspective of that's one of thosegames back in twenty fifteen that even if
you weren't there, you said youwere there. Yeah, I wasn't there,
but I was there. Yeah, exactly. There's a funny member as
a little documentary about the Buffalo Billscalled the Four Falls of Buffalo, and
they talked about that Frank Wright comebackgame, and Steve Tasker said, you
know, I've talked to people arethe country and one million people said there

(44:36):
at that game. Same thing withthe Byog game. Now it's the Stock
Rising game last week. Yes,the Wolf of Death Valley, I guess
Dabo Swinny, the Wolf of PerimeterRoad, speaking out last week saying if
you want some stock and Clemson, you better buy it now. Look,
there's a good team coming to townin Georgia Tech. We're going to break
that team down in a little moredetail coming up in the next hour around

(44:57):
the ACC. Of course, wetalked about Louisville's win the other night against
Virginia. Today you've got Virginia Techtangling with Boston College coming up at noon
on the ACC network. Castellanos hashad a nice season so far for BC.
A couple of teams here, yeah, here well, and Boston College
is Bowl eligible eligible? Yeah,John, who would have thought, based
on how they started the season losingto Northern Illinois Boston College bowl eligible.

(45:22):
So nice job there, Jeff Hafleykind of galvanizing that team here in the
second half of the season. Doubtabout it. Virginia Tech is a point
and a half favorite in that game, though both teams three and two in
the ACC is still jockeying for positionright now. Georgia Tech of course visits
Clemson. That's a noon kickoff onABC, but you can listen to it
right here on we s C ofcourse in C State and Wake Forests Dave

(45:45):
Dorn's team, of course, inthe big win over Clemson and now they're
bowl eligible at six and three, three and two in the conference. Wake
Forest struggling mightily right now in theACC with griffins and quarterbacks having it up
and down season. They're missing SamHartman. I know Hartman had a bad
game last week, but as atransition year obviously for coach Clawson right now.

(46:05):
Yeah, and that's somewhat of asurprise just based on how coach Clawson
has been able to for whatever reason, have enough talent there at wake Forest
to be very competitive. In whatI think I'm seeing from wake Forest,
what we talked about with Tony Elliottin Virginia, where they're giving effort,
there's some games here for wake Forest. You just don't see the same type

(46:27):
of effort that you've seen in thepast. No, you don't. It's
going to be a tough ride forthem moving forward in a very competitive conference
that will continue to grow and expandinto the future as we all know.
Three thirty pm ACC Network. Acouple of teams heading in the bad direction,
of course, Pitt two and seven, one and four in the conference
in Syracuse. Look, I loveDino Babers. We've talked about him on
this show. He's given Clemson fitsover the years. Yes, but they're

(46:50):
zero to five in the conference. They've lost to Believe five street now overall,
and it's just not a good lookright now at Syracuse. No.
And I don't suspect that Dino Babersis going to be back for next season
there Syracuse. No. I don'tthink so either. And it's tough.
He'll land on his feet, butright now not good at four and five
overall. Tonight, ACC Network eightpm. This is a great matchup.
You know, we talk about collegebasketball, historic matchup, but now on

(47:13):
the football field, Duke having asolid year six and three Bowl eligible.
They stumbled a little bit in themidway portion of the season. They're not
ranked right now, but they're takingon number twenty four North Carolina, one
of the most unpredictable teams in thecountry. North Carolina because they've got a
great quarterback in Drake May who willprobably be the second overall pick in next
year's draft, but defensively, there'salways something going on with North Carolina.

(47:34):
This should be an intriguing game. This should be an intriguing game. And
earlier in the season, after Dukewas able to get that victory against Clemson,
then obviously a tough loss against NotreDame, but competed there in that
game. And Duke without Riley Leonardis obviously a different type of team.
And now we know he's not goingto be one hundred percent, but it
does look like he is going toplay. But we had had this one

(47:55):
circle thinking that hey, this couldbe deciding another team that would be making
it to Charlotte. And obviously,I mean still some crazy things can happen,
but we were thinking that a dukeNorth Carolina matchup would not be on
the football side. We were obviouslygoing to talk about it on the basketball
prost but yes, this is abig game tonight there in North Carolina.

(48:17):
Should be up there in champel Hilleight pm kickoff. And finally shout out
to again to our friend Melissa Levelfrom Ingles, who is a big,
avid supporter of Florida State athletics formany reasons. They're nine to zero,
they're seven to zero conference, they'renumber four in the country, fourteen point
favorites at home against a dangerous Miamiteam. I'm just gonna tell you right
now, I don't often get theseupset alert things right Miami. We saw

(48:40):
it's Clemson fans what they can dofirst hand, Oh, no question about
it. And this is you know, a scenario with Florida State is that
you just got to have to keepgetting better each week and focus on who
you are rather than obviously focusing onyour opponent. And we talk about that
a lot. You got to playto your level, you expectations, not
just the uniform on the opposing team. And we know this is a huge

(49:04):
rivalry game. It is speaking ofPitt and Syracus. Just a footnote that's
being played at Yankee Stadium in theBronx today. So that's the little intrigue
there. Coming up in the nexthour of the show. Here we got
a lot to get to we haveon this day with Richmond. We were
one of my favorite segments of theshow. As we look back at the
history of what happened on the eleventhday of November and Clemson Football. Will

(49:24):
also take a look at the serieshistory and it is extensive, a lot
of history between Georgia Tech and Clemson, and will also give you our feeling
of what's going on in the toptwenty five, the latest on Jim Harboll
if we have it. It's theIngles Tailgate Show. We're live outside Little
John Coliseum tailgateting with you until nineam right here on ninety two point five
WSC, ninety two point five sE AM and FM Greenville, Spartanburg Anderson.

(49:50):
We're talking Clemson Tigers and getting youready for a college football Saturday.
And this side Ingles Tailgate Show isbrought to you by Ingles Markets Prices,
Love the Savings, Blue Ridge ElectricCooperative, Harley Davidson of Greenville Career Flooring
Center, the Surgery Center at Pelham, the Key Heating in Air and palam
Meadow State Armor. Ye Fredday. Now here are your hosts, John Ellis

(50:15):
at Richmond Weavers. All right, welcome back to the Ingles Tailgates Show live
outside a Little John Coliseum on adrizzly, chilly, forty nine degree rainy
morning. Some don't like that weather. I love it. It's football weather

(50:36):
and it's time to get ready fora big game for the Clemson Tigers.
Coming off a huge win last weekagainst Notre Dames, Georgia Tech comes to
town to take on your Clemson Tigers. Coming up at noon Eastern. You
can hear that play by play actionfrom Don Munson and company right here on
ninety two point five. Weesc comingup at noon. Until then, we've
got network coverage coming up with theEnglish Tiger Tailgate Show. After our program

(50:57):
comes to a conclusion in the nextsixty minutes or so, come on out
and see if it's Veterans Day.We salute all the veterans out there who
have served this country and continue todo so. It's an honor to be
doing radio on a day like thisto be able to bring not only some
contexts in terms of football, butalso spend a few minutes just thanking each
and every one of you for providingthe comfort we need to live our lives

(51:21):
the way we do. And wethank you so much for all the sacrifices
you have made and continue to makefor your service. Clemson hosting Georgia Tech
and Death Valley. Before we getinto some of the news and notes in
the connections and series history between thesetwo programs, and they go way back,
and there's a lot of drama betweenthese two programs, let's first fire
up the Delaureate and go back intime on this day in Clemson football with

(51:45):
Richmond Weaver sire up the delore Ihave time to take a tripped on memory
lane going we don't need load,it's odd on this day and Clemson football
history. Here's Richmond Weaver November theeleventh. And obviously we do have to

(52:07):
make sure we give a shout outto all of the veterans. As John
has mentioned previously, Yes, thankyou for all that you have done on
the military side, allowing us theopportunity to have these freedoms that we enjoy.
So going all the way back tonineteen thirty nine, mister ellis,
yes, way back. Banks McFaddencompleted just four passes against wake Forest back

(52:29):
in nineteen thirty nine, but threewere to Joe Blaylock for one hundred and
five yards. It was the firstone hundred yard receiving game in Tiger history.
How about that? Yes? Andit was also the final home game
for McFadden and the rest of theTiger seniors. And obviously Banks McFadden one
of the goats, legend Clemson footballand even basketball history. I just saw

(52:52):
his picture inside a little john Iwent inside and that I got warm from
it. And there's Banks McFadden. He's a legend. How about this?
In nineteen sixty one against South Carolina, Yes, the Tigers obviously, and
the game Cocks there and no loveloss between the two. But a team
resembling Clemson entered the field prior tothe game and they did a few serious

(53:15):
calisthenics and then started dancing to theband music. And the team was actually
members of the Sigma Nu fraternity ofSouth Carolina. Clemson students quickly understood what
was going on, entered the fieldand got into a little scuffle there and
tried to work over the impostors andfinally state police brought order to the field

(53:38):
in that game, the Shenanigans, that would go back on the foolery.
That's right. Kids have always beenkids, no matter what the year is,
it's always been that's right. Andthen in nineteen ninety five, two
all time Clemson records were set onthe same day in Clemson's thirty four to
seventeen victory over Duke Raymond Priester gametwo hundred and sixty three yards rushing to

(54:02):
break Cliff Austin's single game mark andall American Brian Dawkins have three interceptions in
the first quarter. About that toset a quarter record and tie the single
game mark for interceptions. Brian Dawkinsone of the best, obviously and had

(54:22):
a great career in the NFL,And shall we say Hall of Fame as
Brian gold jacket? Gold jacket?Yes. And Clemson is eleven and five
all time in games contested on thisdate, including four straight wins from nineteen
seventy eight, nineteen ninety five, two thousand and six, twenty and seventeen

(54:42):
and can they make it five goinghere? In twenty twenty three, we'll
see what happens. It's on thisday in Clemson football, the eleventh day
of November eleven eleven. Happy VeteransDay again to all the veterans out there.
And so we're coming to you liveoutside Little John Coliseum. The crowd
is funneling in. We're seeing tailGaton getting set up. Not that can
dampen the spirits of a Clemson fanon a day like this. Man,

(55:04):
it's fifty degrees, it's drizzly,your team's coming off a big win,
looking to get consecutive wins here athome, and it's a tough place to
play. We've talked about that andagain some of the series history between these
two programs. Look, I thinkone of the big stories that people remember
if you're really into the series orjust a connoisseur of college football, is

(55:25):
the John Heisman Angle. I mean, obviously, you know Clemson once had
John Heisman here in their backyard, and he ends up being with Georgia Tech
and one of the names that resonatesin college football forever. It all starts
there, and then there's just somuch history between these programs. One thing
I was thinking about on the waydown today to the show the series history.

(55:45):
You know, Georgia Tech has hadClemson's number of times Clemson has repaid
the favor. There was a stretchof time I remember distinctly when Paul Johnson
was here where they gave Clemson fitswith that option offense. Man, I'm
telling you those were some Those aresome tough games. Now when you mentioned
the word our words or the namePaul Johnson, that brings fear to a

(56:08):
lot of Clemson Yes, And itwas just one of those type of scenarios
that you knew that for whatever reason, it didn't matter wherever Georgia Tech was
on the field with Paul Johnson, even fourth down, they were going to
go for it. Of course therewere and that was Paul Johnson, and
it was just so hard to stopthat triple option. But one of the

(56:30):
games that I remember very vividly, and Timberray did a great job breaking this
game down, and it was Octobertwenty first, two thousand and six game
against Georgia Tech. And this wasTommy Bowden head coach. There the number
twelve Clemson Tigers versus Chan Gailey's numberthirteen Yellow Jackets, and it was the

(56:51):
first of Top fifteen teams in MemorialStadium since nineteen ninety two, and that
was against the opener with Florida State. And it was also the first time
since nineteen thirty nine that Clemson worethe combination of purple jerseys and purple pants.
And this game had attention nationally asit was also the first time that

(57:13):
ESPN brought College Game Day to thecampus. And Tim Bray was actually involved
in where the setup should be forthis game and suggested that it should be
on Bowman Field because Clemson played itsgames there when John Heisman was the head
coach, and so you have allof those connections that you just talked about
with John Heisman with Clemson and GeorgiaTech. And also just remember this as

(57:37):
you talked about the series with Clemsonand Georgia Tech. Coming into that game
in two thousand and six, theteams had played games decided by five points
or less than nine of the previousten seasons, including an incredible six straight
games decided by exactly three points betweennineteen ninety six and two thousand and one.

(58:00):
And obviously we're able to see thunderand lightning with CJ. Spiller and
James Davis, as they were justtwo work courses in that game, and
Davis and Spiller were the ground attackthat they had, averaging over two hundred
and fifty yards per game coming intothat season and a big reason why Clempson

(58:22):
was six and one coming into thatgame. Some contexts too, some of
the top performances all time individually againstGeorgia Tech over the years. The most
passing yards was that game back inthe pandemic ar twenty twenty where Trevor Lawrence
went down to Atlanta and just litthat secondary up, making passes all across
the field five touchdowns, Richmond fourhundred and four yards in that game,

(58:43):
but again two of the top threepassing totals ever Clemson. His head against
this Georgia Tech defense came in twentytwelve and twenty thirteen from a guy we
don't talk about NFL. This showToJ Boyd, who could throw the pillar
around with the best of them.He had three hundred ninety seven yards back
in twenty twelve in an October gameat home here, and then another home
game back in twenty thirteen three hundredand twenty yards passing with four touchdowns.

(59:06):
So yeah, between Lawrence and Boyd. They had Georgia Tech's number for that
time. One more note here youmentioned CJ. Spiller had a two hundred
thirty three yard game back there intwo thousand and nine. A name to
keep an eye on, not onlytoday, just thinking about reflecting on this
series, but in the NFL yourCowboys. By the way, about Martevas
Bryant coming back into the fold.He signs with the Cowboys and he is

(59:29):
the all time leading single game receiveragainst Georgia Tech from Clemson's side back in
twenty thirteen. Richmond five receptions onehundred and seventy six yards in that game.
And it's good to see Brian gettingback on the field after having some
rough times. There hopefully an opportunityfor him to make a name for himself
in the NFL again. Yeah, and this is a big part of Jerry
Jones loves giving guys second chances, and for Martevs Bryant, maybe this is

(59:52):
a third or fourth chance in allreality, And obviously hopefully it's more than
just getting back out on the footballfield. It's actually his life getting back
in order. And this is justa sign of hopefully of positive things for
him. In the future, nodoubt about it. We'll keep an eye
on mor Tavis Bryant and all theClemson alum that now reside in the ACC

(01:00:14):
reside in the NFL. I shouldsay, I will say this, it
was tough news for Grady Jarrett seeat the ACL injury. But we got
a big one coming up tomorrow.A lot of Clemson guys will be playing
tomorrow in this game Jacksonville and theforty nine ers, Trevor Lawrence, travis
Et on one side, you gotra Ray McLeod, Cleveland Ferrell on the
other side, We'll probably missing afew guys as well. In terms of
my top of the hitd memory there. But these Clemson guys continue to impress.

(01:00:37):
Hopkins is coming on. Sean Watsonhas had some good moments lately.
It's so much fun to watch theseplayers thrive at that next level. Of
course, the last meeting between thesetwo teams last year to open the season
twenty twenty two, in a gamewhere it shows you how much things have
changed here in terms of the appreciationexpectation, a forty one to ten wins.
But I remember Richmond after that game. Some people who called into our

(01:00:58):
show on one of four nine FoxSports Upstate as well as some fans in
general, we're like, oh,really, come on now, But they
got the win. DJU had anice date there, two unor nine total
yards and a touchdown air in theground, but they got the best of
them. But again, this GeorgiaTech team plays people tough and bring Keith.
Do not sleep on their ability torun the ball and also spread the
ball around with Haines Keen, noquestion about it. And that game last

(01:01:22):
year was our first look at KateClubnick and it looked like, oh wow,
okay, Kate Clubnick is a betterquarterback than dj Uyungeley. That was
some of the narrative based on himcoming in mop up duty against Georgia Tech
and obviously being able to score atouchdown and looked very impressive in his first
action as a Clemson Tiger. Butagain that's going back to the expectations,

(01:01:45):
and even in a big victory likethat, it seemed that some of the
Clemson fan base was not happy withhow the team looked. Even though you
had a nice victory to open theseason. Ye, it just didn't seem
that there was enough offensive firepower eventhough you're scoring forty plus points. Forty

(01:02:05):
plus points, So how can yoube disappointed with that? You know,
So that is a big part ofit. But as you talked about on
the other side, for Georgia Tech, Haines King, this is a guy
when you watch him play, heis a much more difficult matchup than people
give him credit for it because obviouslyhe can beat you with his legs,
but also he is a guy that'sunderrated from a passing perspective. Yeah,

(01:02:30):
he really is twenty one touchdowns, ten interceptions, but he's also one of
their leading rushers. This is aGeorgia Tech team that a couple weeks ago
against North Carolina ran for over twohundred and fifty yards in the fourth quarter
of a game. Now, Iknow that's you know, the North Carolina
defense that we all troll every weekand see how they can't stop anybody.
But look, they've improved somewhat.I will say this. We've yet to

(01:02:50):
touch on this on this show.Dabo Sweeney one hundred and sixty six is
the magic number now career win topass college Football Hall of Famer friend Think
Howard. He had one hundred andsixty five between nineteen forty and nineteen sixty
nine sole possession of the record, and it was emotional. You saw midfield
after the game, with the postgameinterviews with ABC and Kay Klubnick embracing his

(01:03:15):
coach and the reaction that that Sweenyhad. I think when they made that
key fourth down stop there at theend of the interception, you could tell
it was it's not about him,he doesn't make it about him, but
just such an appreciation that he hasfor the history of this program, for
the history of college football, andgetting this done in that short amount of

(01:03:35):
time. Again, it's just atestament to what they've built. And I
think it was a good reminder forClemson fans, even Tyler from Spartanburg,
how far they've come in a shortamount of time. Yeah, no question
about it. And I know Dabosweeneyhad talked about afterwards, just the adversity
that the team faced and obviously theculmination of being able to get the victory
against Notre Dame and then surpassing FrankCoward, and he joked or jokingly said,

(01:03:59):
oh, Frank, he didn't makeit easy for me to break that
record, right, He's got tolook at that rock every game too.
To remind him like, oh thatthing looms. No, it was just
an amazing moment, and you knowhis family was there. I thought one
of the touching moments too. We'llhead to break here in a minute to
get you ready for what's going on. In the top twenty five. Don
Munson, our good friend, hadposted something on Twitter today or the other

(01:04:20):
day, and the digital team hereClemson did a masterful job on this.
Yeah, and I know you knowwhat I'm talking about. The tribute video
they put together with some of thegreat Clemson names in the past. Bre
In Venables made an appearance for Lawrencemade an appearance. Of course, the
Sweeney boys were on there to havehis kids, and that's when I think
he got emotional. They showed aclip of Dabo's standing with Don watching this

(01:04:41):
video play out, and that's reallywhat it's all about, man, some
of these greats in the past.Is the one thing we've talked about with
the guys that you and I bothknow, Darien Rincher and Ben Bolwaer,
And the question I asked him allthe time when I see him and when
Dabo's name comes up, is hey, man, the appreciation for this coach
not only in the moment, howhard Dabbo can coach these guys. They
he's hard them and it's in aproductive way. But looking back, did

(01:05:02):
they make your life better? Andthat's a testament to that. How many
guys not only in the NFL now, but just successful in business, successful
in life paying tribute to Dabosweeney thatthat was a pretty touching moment. I
thought, no question about it.And I think a lot of these coaches,
and including Dabos Sweeney, and yousee it from other coaches too,
they feel that their part in lifeand what they're contributing as a coach.

(01:05:25):
Yes see, you focus on thewins and losses if you're looking at it
from a fan's lens, but thesecoaches at times they also looking at it
from a lens as a mentor andhelping young men grow and obviously even on
the women's side, helping young womengrow to be successful in life. However
that might be defined, and it'snot always about wins and losses on the

(01:05:47):
field or on the court. It'smuch more about some of the wins and
losses in life. And I thinkthat's one of the things that Dabos Sweeney
takes pride in I think that's anotherreason why he gets emotional when he reflects
back and just the impact that he'shaving on so many different players and as
you mentioned, like a Ben Bull, where Darien Rincher, the guys that

(01:06:08):
can talk so highly of Dabo Sweeney, and there's a laundry list of players
that will say the exact same thing, they helped him. He helped them
grow, not as just an athlete, but also as a man, no
doubt about it. You could putthat all in a business card and have
nothing about the wins of resume andthat would pass as a successful resume for

(01:06:31):
coach Sweeney. But you also putthis on the business card too. While
we're on the result side of things, Yes, you meet in Alabama twice
in the National Championship. You've alsoimproved a four and two all time against
Notre Dame and that's becoming As wetalked about earlier. Monthson mentioned this as
well, it's not really a rivalryin terms of history, but it's suddenly
being mentioned as a rivalry Notre DameClinton because they've had some really compelling games

(01:06:53):
of late, including the Cotton Bowla few years ago, and of course
some great matchups in each of thesites, the Byog game being the most
impressive of all those, I thinkfrom the Clemson end. But we'll see
what happens today as another team thatdons the Golden Blue comes to town.
Georgia Tech. The Ramblin Wreck willcome calling today at noon Eastern. I'm
John Ellis, that's Richmond Weaver. We're live here at Little John Coliseum,

point five w E SSE. NowHere are your hosts, John Ellis and
Richmond Weaver. Happy veterans, dateand the veterans who have served and continue

(01:08:04):

family out here Tailgate. We arehere for the next twenty five Well,

(01:08:47):
Weaver because the Ashville Championship is goingon up there in beautiful Ashville, the
Harris Cherokee Center, with Clemson gettinga big win last night. They come
from behind win and they'll be playingagain tomorrow. Stay tuned for more d
on the Eagles Countdown the tip Offshow as well, which is one of
our staples shows right here on ninetytwo point five WSC before each Clemson men's
basketball game. So we got thatto get to and Devo Swinney, Hey,

(01:09:11):
don't stop at one sixty six goingfor one sixty seven a day against
the Georgia Tech team that as wementioned, we'll break this down game down
in more detail here momentarily, butit's a team that they can move the
ball, they can run the ballon you, and you mentioned Haines King
has got a tremendous amount of moxiethere in terms of his play making ability.
More on that game shortly. Butthe big story this week, of

(01:09:32):
course, and we're going to getinto the top twenty five, is what's
going on down there in Michigan. As Pete Thamil had reported yesterday and so
many others as well, it looksas though at least did the moment and
we've got to let the judicial systemnow play out. This is how ridiculous
this story has become. Jim Harball, at least tentatively now has been banned

(01:09:55):
from the sideline amid the probe that'sgoing on right now with Signal Steel that
dated back to one of the mostabsurd things I've ever seen this guy Connor
Stallions who the story just gets weirderand weirder with this guy running a vacuum
cleaner repair business on his front porchand getting Blake Krum involved in an LLC
that apparently Blake Korm said, getmy attorneys involved. I wasn't a part

(01:10:15):
of this. It just seems likeand I like Jim Harball, I like
the Harball family, but wherever hegoes, there's always something, there's always
something underneath there. This from PeteThame, Will Real Quick and Adam Rittenberg.
The Big Ten on Friday suspended Michigancoach Jim Harball for the remainder of
the regular season as the conference disciplinesthe program under its sportsmanship policy amid the
ongoing NCAA investigation into the schools inperson signal stealing. Hours later, Harball

(01:10:41):
and the university requests a temporary restrainingorder in the County Trial Court. There
they filed it and if granted,it would give the judge an opportunity to
stop harball suspension before hearing arguments fromthe defendants, which are right now.
The Big Ten and Commissioner Tony Pettiti. I don't have any updated news on
that. But I know har Balltraveled with the team. They showed him
on the bus yesterday, but rightnow he's not allowed to be on the

(01:11:04):
sidelines at the current moment. Andthe news broke later in the day after
the team had already traveled or startedthe process of traveling, so they couldn't
just take him off, drop himoff at a truck stop, make you
way home, Jim, And thiswill be interesting to see obviously, Michigan
play in Penn State today at noon. Will any type of injunction be filed,

(01:11:27):
I mean not filed, but willit be ruled on in time for
Jim Harborough to potentially be back onthe sideline. So a lot of chaos
going on right now. But atthe end of the day, now,
John, this is the reality ofit, in what we know of the
story. This is no longer theBig Ten versus Michigan. This is Sidley
and Austin versus Williams and Conley, the two law firms on each side,

(01:11:54):
because this is all about lawyer upand this is the reality of it that
they're going to continue lawyering up rightnow and a lot of money is going
to be spent trying to keep Harballon the field coaching and a lot of
money spent to keep Harball off thefield better call Sault. A lot going

(01:12:15):
on there, But the game itself, number three Michigan taking on number ten
Penn State. Every time I seePenn State in a game like this,
and I love James Franklin, Ilove this program, I love their quarterback.
I like what the Michigan has donethis year in terms of Blake corm
running the ball sixteen touchdowns on theground, JJ McCarthy has been highly effective
and efficient. But I just evenwithout Harball in this game, I'm not

(01:12:35):
sure if I can pick Penn State, but it seems like in these moments
they just fall a little bit short. And I know they're eight and one,
five and one of the big tenants, a huge opportunity. I'm just
not sure if they're quite there yetagainst this physical Michigan team. Each and
every season we see this from JamesFranklin, and we even saw it to
earlier in the season against Ohio State. That was this going to be the
opportunity for James Franklin and the NitneyLions to break through and have an opportunity

(01:13:00):
to play for a Big Ten championship, and not only a Big Ten championship.
Could this be the year that PennState could be one of those teams
that busts through and makes it intothe top four in the College Football Playoff
ranking set? But I agree withyou, I just haven't seen enough historically
from Penn State and James Franklin thatwould tell me that they can win this

(01:13:21):
game against Michigan, even with thecontroversy going on with Michigan right now and
somewhat of the distraction. But Ialso believe that for Michigan, this seems
to be a rallying cry for Michiganright now. And I know there's all
this talk about how Jim Harball hisrecord has improved based on when Connor Stallions

(01:13:46):
became involved with the program, andcan it be contributed solely just to the
opportunity of maybe learning some signals fromsome of these teams, And I just
don't contend that that is where thescenario plays out, that that's why Michigan
is having success. I think partof it is the schedule that they've played.

(01:14:06):
The teams that they've been beating rightnow are not that good, so
that's part of it. But Johnand you can attest to this. The
other side of it is, lookat Michigan just from the aspect of the
dudes out on the field. Thisis a team who's had what eleven NFL
in the first or second round overthe past two years, and they're loaded

(01:14:30):
with NFL talent. So they've gota lot of guys playing on Saturdays right
now that are going to play onSunday. So there's got to be an
aspect of Michigan just has some talentthat is leading to some of the success.
And I'm not saying that what they'redoing is right, but also I
don't believe this is that big ofa deal based on what we have seen

(01:14:53):
in the past. And I knowthey have broken the rule and I get
that, but I can speak directto this because when I was assistant coach
at Fairley Dickinson University after I graduatedhere from Clemson nineteen ninety three, I
was that assistant coach going to gamesand doing advanced scalty. I was doing

(01:15:15):
that, and then the following year, that's in nineteen ninety four, that's
when NCAA decided to put in legislationthat you were not allowed to go on
the road, and it was allbased John on the aspect of they wanted
to hopefully increase parody in college athleticsbecause they felt that the smaller schools didn't

(01:15:39):
have the budget to go and spendto send coaches to these games, where
obviously the bigger schools had the budgetfor travel and going to watch some of
these games. But my point isthat we've always had a discrepancy disparity in
terms of budgets, and nobody's talkingof the facilities, races that's going on,

(01:16:01):
the money that's being spent on,you know, the facilities, and
it's always been that way, andso I just don't understand why all of
a sudden in nineteen ninety four itwasn't okay to go advance scout. Now,
I'm not saying go and use videorecording. So I understand legently dress
up as a Western Michigan coach orwherever he was with Jim mackawaite on the

(01:16:24):
stat by the way, coach withHarball. It's a lot of weird's going
on, and that's different, andyou know, I'll look at it just
from a perspective of the NFL.You can do advanced scouting absolutely. They
do it all the time. Sohow is it so different in college athletics
that you can't And also knowing thatin college athletics, there is an exception

(01:16:44):
that you can do advanced scouting ifyou're at the same venue, like the
multi team event in Ashville, theAshville Championship, those coaches can sit there
and watch the other team that theymight be potentially playing. And we know
it in the NCAA tournament and butthat's okay, but you can't do it
any other time of the year.I just don't get it. And you

(01:17:06):
know, I was there and wejokingly talk about with Miami when they came
through Greenville with coach Larnage. Youwere right behind himsel Hey, Jim two
three, so on, baby, let's go. Chris Capudo, the assistant
coach, I was sitting beside himand we were talking and he was asking
me a couple of times, Hey, was he was that A were they

(01:17:29):
yelling for right there? And Iwas like, yeah, that was a
Yes, that's that was the call. And so I just don't understand it.
That why we're making such a bigdeal. Now. I understand they
broke the rule, the rule theyhave, but I just think it's a
rule that we don't need. Andobviously, John, the other side of
it is just from the communication standpoint, go ahead and put direct communication within

(01:17:53):
the helmet and we eliminate this. And I don't know if you've seen some
of the commercials for AT and Tin terms of the for deaf players to
how they're able to put visualization therewithin the helmet so they can see the
play that is called through their helmet. And if they're able to do that,

(01:18:15):
come on, because we know it'salready happening in the NFL. But
then the money and they don't haveenough money. I could give me a
break. I don't buy it,John, I don't buy it. I
don't buy it either. The collegefootball playoff rankings looks a little bit like
this will go through the rest ofthese matchups here momentarily number one Ohio State,
number two Georgia. Number three isMichigan. We'll see how long that

(01:18:35):
lasts. And Florida State coming intonumber four. Washington Oregon at five and
six. That's all the undefeated teamsright now. Of course, Oregon is
a one lost team. Texas gettingQuinn Yewers back today is eight and one.
Their number seven, Alabama Rich andthey're lurking Jayleen Millrow and company.
They're just sitting there a number eightat eight and one. They got a
big game today. And Oh Missis at eight and one as well.

(01:18:56):
And then Penn State we mentioned themearlier at eight at number ten, lurking
at number eleven. Right now they'reeating one and we'll see where that goes.
They're nine and one now. Ishould say, well, and you
talk about old Miss lane Train laneKiffin heading into Athens. I'm anxious to
see how that plays out. AndI think lane Kiffin is definitely one of
those guys where in the past you'veseen him almost bring too much attention to

(01:19:17):
himself in some of these big games, and I think this is an opportunity,
and he actually talked about it thisweek that hey, you know,
this is about the football team. This is about going out there and Old
Miss. They don't have anything tolose. Pressure is on Georgia this game.
But I think too many times thatLane Kiffin puts pressure on his team

(01:19:38):
by making it more about him andthe antics going on and delivering a win.
And I think the big part ofit is that Ole Miss just go
out there and play football. Don'tworry about everything else. Play football.
Jackson Dark can do it all aswell. We'll see what happens in that
game coming up next, a closerlook around the Top twenty five, and
rich and I will give our finalthoughts on jo orre to Tech and Clemson

(01:20:00):
right here on the Ingles Tailgate Showninety two point five WSC. This is
the Ingles Tailgate Show on ninety twopoint five w e SC. It's a

(01:20:27):
tristly cold morning here in beautiful Clemson, South Carolina outside Little John Coliseum,
but it's not dampening the spirits ofyours truly. John Elis my co host,
Richmond Weaver, and the litany offans that are out here tailgateing right
now outside of Little John in theshadows of death Fallay, getting you ready
for another big home game for theTigers, dablish when you're looking to keep
that stock rising for Clemson so tospeak, as they're taken on Georgia Tech

(01:20:48):
coming to town, a team that'sgot a lot of strengths that we can
look at here in just a moment, want to get to the rest of
what's going on in the Top twentyfive. Here on the Ingles Tailgate Show,
we talked about Michigan and Penn Stateten angling at noon Eastern since we
took our last commercial break, breakingnews, no news, no new news,
say that ten times fast. OnJim Harball, we don't know.
He's a technically not supposed to beon the sideline's day, but they filed

(01:21:11):
an injunction. We'll see what happens. How about this noon game between Alabama
and Kentucky. I mean, DevinLeary's had a nice season. Milroe has
been great. They're eleven point favoriteson the road. Should be interesting.
Kentucky plays people tough in this conference. They're six and three right now.
And as I say about Alabama, every year there they lurk. They lose
guys every year, Bryce Young,a company, doesn't matter, doesn't matter,
they're still there. They lose WillAnderson, Bryce Young and a host

(01:21:33):
of others to the NFL, andthey are still getting it done right now.
Number six Kansas coming up at noonagainst Texas Tech. Kansas has had
a nice year. They're seven andtwo right now, getting it done offensively.
Number three twenty three to two Lane. They're eight and one, taking
on Tulsa at noon. How aboutthis game number twenty one Arizona. They're
Bowl eligible now with Jed Fish takingon coach Prime and after the offensive coordinator

(01:21:57):
change to Pat Shermer. Oh boy, that he did not look good last
week, as should are. Sandershad a tougher game than he usually does.
Yeah, and I think Arizona isa team that is underrated from the
national perspective right now, and theyare a very good defensive team. So
I would suspect this will be ascenario where Colorado is probably going to struggle
at home against Arizona. Well,if it doesn't work out in Nebraska for

(01:22:17):
Matt Rule, maybe Baylor will callthem back because it's been a tough sledding
type of a couple of years herefor Dave Randa. They're three and six.
They're traveling to Bill Snyder Family Stadiumup there in Manhattan against Kansas State,
who is six and three, alwayspesky, always tough. They're four
and two in the Big twelve. Will Howard having a good season eighteen touchdowns,
eight interceptions. Big matchup we talkedabout earlier in the ACC Number four

(01:22:39):
Florida State with Jordan Travis nineteen touchdowns, two interceptions taken on Miami in this
game at three point thirty on ABC. A good matchup here too, nine
to zero Washington at home up thereat Husky Stadium hosting Utah three thirty on
Fox. Utah is eighteenth in thecountry, seven and two, four and
two in the conference. Michael PennockJunior has been great Richmond, but the

(01:23:00):
last couple of weeks, this Washingtonteam is barely getting by here in some
of these games. Yeah, obviouslythey struggled offensively until this last game where
they got right against Southern Cal.Cause Southern Cal plays no defense, right
coordinator y, Yeah, we knowthat, as Washington was able to get
that to fifty two to forty twovictory against the Trojans. And so this

(01:23:20):
will be an interesting scenario for Washingtonas they are right now just on the
outside of the top four, tryingto break into the top four of the
college Football playoff rankings. And youknow there's going to be chaos somewhere down
the line these last three games.I don't know who it's going to be,
but it wouldn't be surprising to seelike a Utah team who's very physical,

(01:23:42):
I know it's on the road inWashington and it's a very tough place
to play. But I could seesome type of scenario where Utah is going
to give Michael Pennox and the Huskieschallenge today. Did you say chaos,
my chance, chaos or chaos?Well, how about this your favorite coach
of all time? Mike Dundy,Lahoma State after beating Bedlan last week in
bed Lean they beat Oklahoma print Vnables. I'm heartbroken for our good friend there.

(01:24:05):
They're seven to two and this isjust ripe once again for another upset
special. We talk about it everyweek, whichman, I'll love to turn
this one to you. Oklahoma statedyou see, if they're only a two
and a half point favored, myfriend Vegas is telling you something that it's
only a two and a half pointfavorite because Central Florida has not won a
Big twelve game yet this season, and so when you look at it from

(01:24:27):
that perspective, and I talked aboutit last week on our sister station one
o four nine Fox Sports, andknowing that it would not surprise me because
this is what Mike Gundy and theOklahoma State Cowboys do each in every year.
Once you write them off. Theyhave a big victory, and they
did that against Oklahoma and then onceyou say all right, okay, I'm

(01:24:49):
gonna believe in the Cowboys and MikeGundy, then what do they do?
Then they lose a game they shouldnever lose. And this is right on
script. This could be a gamethat they go and lose there against Central
Florida. Yeah, we'll see whathappens if they game coming at three thirty.
I've been listening to a lot ofthe pundits agree with you as well

(01:25:10):
that down there in Orlando, itcould be another trip up game for coach
Gundy. We'll see what happens there. Gordon, the running back for Oklahoma
State, has been grade twelve hundredand twenty five rushing yards twelve touchdowns,
should be a big factor in thisgame. Another sneaky good upset special with
an over under of twenty eight anda half. So it'll be a pillow
fight down there in Iowa City betweenRutgers and Iowa. Did you see what

(01:25:30):
Rutgers did? Speaking of signals stealing, they had four guys in four different
colors sweatshirts, two in signals. So Greg Giano give him credit. He's
on top of things. Yes,and it just showcases once again, go
ahead and put communication within the helmets. We don't need that on the sidelines
now. I guess that's sign TaylorSwift. The four block signs, and

(01:25:51):
you got like Sylvester stallone in oneblock, and then you've got a big
X in the other, and thenyou've got five guys in different sweatshirts.
You're exactly right. Let's get theguys of the communications like they have in
the NFL. Man, why notmake it efficient and it would eliminate all
of this shenanigans that allegedly are goingon throughout college athletics and obviously college football.

(01:26:15):
Yeah, no doubt about it.How about DJ you and company Number
twelve in the country, Oregon Stateand Corvallis today seven and two, four
and two in the Pac twelve. They're taking on Stanford. Stanford's had a
couple of upsets this year, butagain, Oregon State's rolling right now,
DJ You, good for him.We say it every week. Eighteen touchdowns
for interceptions. Say what you wantabout what happened here at Clemson, but
it's good to see the young mango out west, back in his comfort

(01:26:36):
zone. I think and really thrivingright now with Jonathan Smith coaching that team.
I want DJ to have success absolutelywhatever he does in life and whatever
team he plays for, I wanthim to have success. And that's what
I've always been amazed that there's individualswho view it a little bit differently,
that oh, hey, he didn'thelp us out here, so you know,

(01:26:59):
I don't want him to have anytype of success somewhere else. And
I just don't buy into that typeof mindset, except if it was South
Carolina, of course, then wewould say well, and again, I
know I'm the minority here as asgrad but I'm okay with South Carolina winning,
of course, except against Clemson becauseyou wanted to have some juice that

(01:27:20):
Robers. I want you. Iwant that rivalry to mean something for both
teams and to really emphasize that rivalry. We know, John that when both
teams are good, it does ampup that rivalry. Sure does. How
about this game, boy, youmentioned it earlier at seven pm on ESPN

(01:27:41):
Between the hedges, the lane traincomes calling against Georgia. They're nine and
oh six and zero the SEC.Georgia is right now number two in the
country, and this would be monumentally. We would talk about shaking things up.
This could be shake up Saturday ina lot of ways. If ole
Miss can go down there play upto their potential with Judkins at running back,
with darted quarterback against the Carson beckallthat. Still they're missing some guys,

(01:28:01):
we all know that, but he'splayed very well. Georgia's defense is
always up to the challenge their elevenpoint favorites. But I think ole Miss
is a real opportunity here because Georgialooked a little leaky last week against Missouri
and they've had some close calls.Well, I thought you were going to
go Taylor Swift with shake it offrather than shake it up Saturday. I
like it. Yes, instant ratings, where is she? Yes, she's

(01:28:21):
around here somewhere. But I dobelieve, yes, there could be scenario
here cause ole Miss played Alabama tough. It was just that second half that
ole Miss just couldn't do anything. And that's what we've seen from Alabama,
though they're a strong second half team. Not only were they able to do
that against ole Miss, also againstTennessee and last week against LSU. Nick

(01:28:43):
Saban is a master of being ableto get his team to perform there in
the second half, So can LaneKiffin? Can he create some chaos that
we talked about here in college footballand especially with Georgia, you know,
the target is obviously on their backand trying to connu you to win.
It's very difficult and we've seen itso many times that there can be a

(01:29:05):
trip up game, and could thisbe a trip up game for Georgia against
Ole Miss? Quickly wrapping up thetop twenty five, Number seventeeny Oklahoma hosting
West Virginia today. That's a goodgame coming up at seven pm on Fox.
Ohio State taken on Michigan State. They have an interim head coach,
but they're coming off a big winagainst Nebraska last week. Ohio State looking
to stay undefeated. The top ofthe college football playoff rankings. When yours

(01:29:26):
is back for Texas, Number seven, Texas travels to Dallas a day to
take on TCU. You've got numbernineteen LSU with Brian Kelly at six and
three taking on Billion Apier's Florida Gatorsat seven thirty. We talked about North
Carolina do coming up at eight andof course the night cap at ten thirty
I'll be awake for it. I'llbe trying bo Nix against Caleb Williams as
Oregon looks to stay on top ofthings in the PAC twelve at eight and

(01:29:47):
one five and one in the PACtwelve, USC struggling a bit, but
still very prolific offensively. Much moreon these games throughout the week, of
course, as we look at thingson our sister station one O four nine
Fox Sports Upstate. Coming up next, we'll get our final thoughts between Georgia
Tech and Clemson, some predictions perhaps, and a word about coach Swinney going

(01:30:08):
for another big win. It's theIngles Tailgates Show. Wrap it up here
from Little John Coliseum on ninety twopoint five weesc This is the Ingles Tailgate
Show on ninety two point five wE sse now Here are your hosts,
John Ellis and Richmond Weaver. Wrapit up from Little John Coliseum, getting

(01:30:40):
you ready for Clemson and Georgia Techon Veterans Day Military Appreciation Day, Live
on the Ingles Tailgates Show. I'mJohn Ellis, that's Richmond Weaver, Trey
Fouanco Beeck in studio. Wanna givea little shout out here to t J.
Parker. I just saw this onClemson's Twitter page. Here he is
carrying the American flag down the fieldtoday, down the hill for Clemson,
and his dad was an Army veteranfor eleven years. And it's just great

(01:31:02):
to see the freshman t J.Parker taking a leadership role on what's going
to be a big day, notonly in terms of football, but honoring
our veterans here. And we wantto salute you here, everybody, from
my Heart Radio, from Ingles, from the WeSC for all you do,
for all you continue to do togive us opportunities like this to gather with
our friends here outside Little john totailgate, to enjoy some football today.

(01:31:24):
A football game that will include acouple of offenses Richmond that can run the
ball. You got Phil Maffa inthe mix, You've got presumably Will Shipley
back in the mix. How muchof a role he'll play. I think
the key to this game again justlooking at what Clemson needs to do to
win. Establish the run. Earlyfield position is critical here. Clemson is
one of the top five teams inthe country right now in starting field position

(01:31:45):
because of aidans wantson, because ofwhat they're doing in the return game,
and I think guys like hamp Greenwill be critical to this performance. But
again, you might need to throwa ball a little bit in this game.
But I would say with the weather, the elements, what we're looking
at here, it's a run firsttype of game. Much like last week.
Just keep it simple and when youget in the red zone, don't
over complicate things. It worked outpretty well last week. Yeah, we've

(01:32:05):
talked about Georgia Tech being a sneakyteam, and just think about this.
They've scored forty plus points in backto back games and have totaled over three
hundred yards rushing in both of thosegames. And the Yellow Jackets are second
in the ACC in yards per game, fourth in the ACC and passing yards
per game, and second in theACC and rushing yards per game, and

(01:32:25):
also third in the ACC in pointsper game. So they actually do score
some numbers there. They have someexplosive plays that they've been able to capitalize
on. But Clemson comes into thegame ranked first in the ACC in yards
allowed per game, second in passingyards allowed per game, and third in
rushing yards allowed per game. Socan the strength of Georgia Tech versus the

(01:32:47):
strength of the Tigers prevail, andI think that's going to be a big
part of it. Obviously. Theone thing that we see say each and
every week turnovers. Turnovers. Turnoverstell you one more stat to look at
early down success. Clemson offensively isninetieth in the country, but Georgia Tech
defensively is one hundred and twenty eighthon early downs. So again, make
your hay early and get right. As Will Vandervold said early in the show,

(01:33:11):
big time game coming up at noon. Don Mounson, Timbrey, Reg
Miggie, Meriweather on the call hereon the Clemson Athletic Networks coverage here on
iHeartRadio. I'm John Ellis. That'sRichmond Weaver. This has been the Ingles
Tailgate Show for our guest, WillVandervoard, for Trey Falco back in studio
for Josh Hip Bravely here in theelements getting it done here in terms of
setting us up, I'm John Ellis. We'll see you next week on the

(01:33:32):
Ingles Tailgate Show right here on ninetytwo point five. Weesc enjoy You're Clemson
Tigers. Saturday
