That's Richmond Weaver. And there's acertain ball game today, the one hundred
and twentieth edition of this game. The kick off in a few hours.
But I'll tell you something. Itis cold here at Camperdown Plaza. Bring
your jackets, bring your gloves,y'all. All of a sudden and the

(01:08):
sun is out, But where weare it is the sun is hidden.
And there's a wind tunnel right here, but it doesn't matter. It's not
gonna keep us away from college footballhere on this wonderful Saturday and the opportunity,
as you mentioned, the Paul metowBall, the one hundred and twentieth
edition down in Colombia as the Tigersget ready to take on the game Cocks
at seven thirty tonight. Yeah,y'all, we got a packed show for

(01:30):
you tod A lot going on.In about ten minutes, Will Vandervoord joins
us live down there from Willie Bas he gives us an inside look from
the Clemson Insider. We also gotto really look back at what happened last
week. I mean, this wasan incredible win for Clemson, perhaps the
most complete win of the season againsta very good North Carolina team. Will
whip it around the ACC, seewhat's going on there for Bowl eligibility and

(01:52):
whatnot. Preview the ACC championship. Is Louisville's in a dogfight right now with
Kentucky. We'll see how that goes, and we'll take a look at what's
going going on not only around thetop twenty five. It's rivalry week,
so where the big game's going on. You got A and M and LSU
Tanglin. Right now, we'll takea look at the college football playoff picture.
What does this all mean? Ofcourse, our good friend Melissa Level
is schedule to stop buy from ingles, big Florida State fan, and we'll

(02:15):
get her perspective on a big gametonight between Florida State and Florida with their
quarterback. Unfortunately, Jordan Travis forjust a terrible injury. For this young
man, it looks like his collegecareer is over according to his own post.
Yeah, so sad for Jordan Travisand everything that he's put into college
football and his progression and evolution transferringfrom Louisville to Florida State and the success

(02:36):
that he has had obviously into thisseason and having the Seminoles in position for
the College Football Playoff. Yes,I know they were knocked out of the
top four by the latest College FootballPlayoff rankings by the Committee, But I
do believe Washington right now has abetter resume than Florida State. Has nothing
to do with Jordan Travis and hisinjury. It's actually what Washington has done

(02:57):
versus what Florida State has done interms of the strength of schedule and the
top quality wins that Washington has versusFlorida State. But that doesn't mean Florida
State can't get right back into it. Just continue to win, because I
don't think there's a scenario where youhave an undefeated ACC team, an undefeated
ACC champion, I should say,and knocked out of the College Football Playoff.

(03:22):
Now it can happen based on someother things that scenarios that would play
out obviously, so it'll be interestingto see. But I just think there
will be some more chaos as wealso know that we have the sign Stealing
Bowl going on right now in AnnArbor, as it was tied up seventeen
to seventeen as we were going onair, So a little bit of a
dogfight there with no Jim Harball onthe sideline. And I've been talking about

(03:45):
this, this is interesting based onwhat Michigan has been able to do the
past two seasons against Ohio State blowoutvictories, and now you have an Ohio
State Buckeye team coming into ann Arbor. There's no Jim Harball on the sideline.
They've been here humiliated by the Wolverinesthe past two times. I think
there's a lot of pressure on OhioState because there's no excuse anymore. No

(04:08):
Jim Harball, you know they're notsigned stealing right now because you would have
changed your signs at this point GioState activity. Yes, I think they
are all done with that. Sothere's a lot of pressure right now in
Ohio State because you have to gowin this game now. It's absolutely imperative.
And there's a lot of rumors circulatingabout Ryan Day, perhaps the Texas
A and M. So it isthat distraction. What's gonna happen with Jim

(04:29):
Harball. One of the few timesin recent memory, this big game is
happening with a couple of undefeated teamsright now. As Richmond said, seventeen
to all in the middle of thethird quarter, JJ McCarthy's had a nice
dan and he's had to because OhioState has shut down the run. You
shut down the run against Michigan. You got a chance. More on that
game later, And of course we'rebrought to you as always by Ingles Low
Prices. Love the savings. Thereyour tail gating headquarters. So hey,

(04:51):
we're getting late in the season, but it ain't over yet. We've got
tail getting Gore coming up with Bowlseason and this big game today between the
game Cocks and Tigers. Stop andit's your friend at Ingles Low Prices love
to say, and I imagine Ingleswas a source for a lot of people
for Thanksgiving. Also it was everythingthat you needed for Thanksgiving, and not
only the supplies that you needed inthe groceries. But what I loved is

(05:13):
the fact that you could just preorder everything you needed for Thanksgiving easy.
It's already made for you. It'slike having your own personal chef from Ingles.
I'm gonna bring you over like you'vebeen my personal chef next year.
But thanks you cook up a meanbird. Sign me up. Yes that's
right. Let's look back at whathappened last week. Rich thirty one to
twenty. Clinson gets win number seven. They maintain a five hundred or better

(05:34):
record in the ACC. That's beena big streak for this team as well.
So when Dablos Wheney talks about thebig goals, and we all know
what they are, you find yourselfin a season like this creating sub goals,
mini goals within the goals, andI think one of them was to
maintain that five hundred or larger winningpercentage in the AEC. They do that
with a win over Mac Brown Dabloswhen he remains perfect against coach Brown and

(05:56):
his coaching career. And I'm gonnatell you something, there were some moments
in this game on senior day.And how about will Shipley, What a
game he had. But it's thefreshman in this lineup, whether it's you
know, the guys on the offensiveline, whether it's guys like k Park,
whether it's the secondary. And thenyou've got some you know, more
experienced players that aren't seniors, likeNate Wiggins, who will be a top
twenty pick in the league. Youcould argue in that game that Nate Wiggins

(06:17):
was the MVP of that game withthe plays he made, particularly into the
first quarter, the play the playwith Hampton down the sidelines for North Carolina
and here comes Nate Wiggins streaking downDEBLOSWHENI calls it one of the best plays
he's ever seen, Richmond on thesidelines of a game. Could have been
fourteen nothing swings the whole momentum backholds North Carolina to thirteen points for the

(06:39):
rest of the game after that fumble, and they win thirty one to twenty,
just initial impressions on what was agreat day for fans down there at
Death Valley. It changes the complexionof that game on a dime when you're
talking about Nate Wiggins. And Italked to several of the Clemson players that
Monday after the game, and allof them unanimously he said, that's the

(07:00):
greatest play that they've seen in theiryoung history of watching football and being on
the sidelines and being a part ofthat. And that just epitomizes what Nate
Wiggins is though, that he's aguy who never gives up. Now,
there's been some ups and downs weknow with Nate Wiggins and him having some
scenarios of not playing because of disciplinaryissues things of that nature. But when

(07:25):
he's out on that field, Imean, it is amazing to watch him.
And it was great to catch upwith Khalil Barnes, who he told
me step by step from his vantagepoint as he's on the field and he
sees Hampton break open and take off, and so he starts jogging that way
because there's no way he's going tobe able to catch because he's on the

(07:46):
other side of the field. Andso but he's at least you know the
rest of the bodies of players areheading towards that direction. And next thing
he knows, he sees how theperipheral vision Nate Wiggins coming down the sideline,
coming down the sideline and catching Hamptonand then be able to strip the
ball. But initially everybody thought thatthe rest were going to give them the

(08:09):
touchdown because a signal touchdown. Butobviously review was able to show that the
ball did come out before he crossedthe goal line. But the ball crossed
the goal line and then out ofbounds, and we know that rule that
it crosses. And as much asthat benefited Clemson, I'm still not a
big fan of that rule. Theman of your principals to stand by,

(08:30):
No, we've talked about that followingthrough the end zone, and how many
teams in the NFL have that happento them. Coaches like mad rule if
talked about it before. When hewas in Carolina, he would make guys
run wind sprints and practice if theyheld the ball over and sometimes at least
it wasn't. What happened Washington acouple weeks ago. The guy drops the
ball, celebrating two yards almost fiveyards short. It seemed I'm telling you
the weekends between that play, theplay late in the game with the pick

(08:52):
on the sidelines, it was defense. It was pressure on of course,
this great quarterback from North Carolina,Drake May and Rich. We'll get will
Vandervoard in here for a minute afterthis break to talk about this game in
more detail. But he had atweet earlier this week about what Clemson's pass
defense has done the last three games. Sam Hartman, Paynes, King,
Drake May. I think we couldagree those are three of the best quarterbacks

(09:15):
in this conference. They held intoa combined four hundred and eighty four passing
yards forty two percent completion percentage. They've allowed just four point nine yards per
attempt, seven interceptions to three touchdowns. I'd say guys like Mike Reed deserve
a lot of credit on my coachingstaff to get this secondary up and going.
But the job Wes Goodwin has donewith this very young defense, that's
the key I keep looking at withthis team. A lot of turmoil early

(09:37):
in the season relative to expectations.Yes, but they're young, and you
mentioned Khalil Barnes, another young playerout there playing his heart out. I
thought it was a great moment forthis team. We'll come back in a
minute. We'll bring in Will Vandervoardfrom the Clemson Insider give us an inside
look at what happened last week. And he's down there in Columbia, so
he's gonna give us a behind enemylines preview. What to expect from a

(09:58):
game Cox team that got Clemson's numberlast year, but it's a new season
and revenge could be on Clemson's mind. I'm almost certain it is that and
much more. We got Melissa Levelhere from Ingles. She'll stop by and
a little bit to talk about notonly a little college football, her Florida
State symbols playing well, but what'sgoing on with Ingles in the community during
this holiday season, and much muchmore. We're live from Camperdown Plaza,

(10:18):
Greenville, South Carolina. It's theIngles Tailgate Show. I'm John Ellis,
that's Richmond Weaver. We're live onninety two point five WeSC This is the
Ingles Tailgate Show on ninety two pointfive w EESSE. Now Here are your
hosts, John Ellis and Richmond Weaver. We are coming down the home stretch

(10:50):
of November. Folks, Thanksgiving isin the rearview mirror, and it's time
for Clemson in South Carolina, theone hundred and twentieth edition of this rivalry,
getting you primed and ready for what'sgonna be undoubtedly an emotionally charged game
for South Carolina down there at WilliamsBrice Stadium, kickoff at seven thirty pm.
You can hear it right here onninety two point five WeSC with Don

(11:11):
Munson, Timbrey, Reggie Merriweather onthe call, and of course, right
after us here right on the ClemsonAthletic Network side of things, Dodger Davidson,
Mark Childers, Don Munson and awhole bunch of guests join us for
the Ingles Tiger Tailgate Show that's onthe Clemson Athletic Network. But you can
hear it live right here on ninetytwo point five WEESC joining us live.
I believe he's down there at Willieb He's covering this game for the Clemson

(11:33):
Insider. He's the co host ofthe Believe in Clemson Football podcast with Levon
Kirkland. It's Will Vandervord. It'sit's Inside Look with Will Vanderbord as my
teeth chattering here in the wind tunnel. We sit and will how you doing,
my friend? I'm doing good.I'm actually walking on over to killgate
out here, and will it bis right in my view because I'm going
over to a buddy of mine.Still get over by the state fairground.

(11:56):
Well there you go. He's behindin medall we are interrupted his festivity or
taked with care? My friend?Hey, look talking about taking care.
I'm right now, guys, okay, oh I never never a doubt,
never a doubt. Will Vanivort fromthe Clemson Insider joins us here on the
Ingles Tailgate Show, one hundred andtwentieth edition to this game. We'll get

(12:18):
to the matchups here in a minute, but I want to start with the
defensive work that this team has putin over the past few weeks. You
tweeted this out about Sam Hartman,Haines King, and Drake May under fifty
percent, the seven interceptions, thelimited touchdowns, one play in particular.
Will you were there watching this game, and I know you said you had
your binoculars on because you, likeme, you can't see a thing.

(12:39):
How about Nate Wiggins down the boundarysaving seven points into the first quarter,
one of the best players Dabosweeney sayshe's ever seen on a sideline. How
about you, You've covered a fewgames. What did you make of that
play in real time? Man?I tell you that was a teleb a
play. As he went down thesideline, I had, like I said,
I have my binoculars on it.And and as as the stripped the

(13:00):
ball, I was like, oh, that ball came out, and everybody
in the press box on it wasa touchdown and they were already kind of
righting touchdown and everything, and Isaid, no, that's not a touchdown.
I think that's coming back. Yeah, you know them The question was
was it did it touch? Youknow, where was the ball? They
were going to say the ball rolledout at was it being the zone or
did some one yard line? Soobviously they call a touchback. Huge play

(13:22):
changed the whole momentum of that game. From that point on. Fokson really
dominated that game. Will vandervoord aninside look with Will. He's from the
Clemson Insider and the Believe in ClemsonFootball podcast here on the Ingles Tailgate show,
Getting You Ready for Clemson in SouthCarolina. It goes without saying that
this is a team that went throughsome ups and downs relative to expectations early

(13:45):
in the season. But the freshmenthat have stepped up on this defense in
particular, will a word about thembecause you've covered them in close range.
It's been fairly remarkable to see thisyoung defense come together. It has when
you look at first of all,you know, Peter Woods and c.
J. Park, sure I've beendoing it all year. And now on
the outside on the secondary, gotAvion Terrell, who's really just stepping up

(14:05):
making plays. Khalil Barnes has beena beast all season. Uh, you
know, and then Shelton Lewis hehad to pick six against Georgia tex He's
had a head over year as well. I mean, those are three true
freshmen that we're talking about there, and uh and then Griffin also, he's
another guy. He's a retro freshman. Just they're so good on that back

(14:28):
end, and they're so young, and they're gonna be trouble for a lot
of teams some years to come.Here. This isn't just a you know,
one year wonder or what they've donein the last month. It's gonna
be a good secondary for years tocome. They're really really talented. These
guys are, and you know,Dabo won't say it, but I'll say
it is the best secondary he's probablyever had his career in Clinton. Yeah,

(14:50):
it's hard to argue that. Aswe're talking with Will Vandervoard of the
Clemson Insider and so Will, wecan talk about the defense, and obviously
you need to switch over to theother side with the offense in the performance
that both Phil Maffa and Will Shipleyhad last Saturday against North Carolina. But
what about the offensive line, howthey seem to have come together and where

(15:11):
this is a line where we've seenTristan Lee jump from spot to spot,
but the cornerstone seems to be WillPuttingham. Talk about how this offensive line
over the past teams has seemed tocome together. They have been really good.
And the thing that's big about themis they have not allowed any They're
really taking care of their quarterback. They're running the football well, so they're

(15:35):
doing They're doing all the things youwant them to do at this time of
the year. And I think itcomes back from that Notre Dame game,
from when they were just a lotof people didn't know what to expect.
You know, what were you goingto see out of this group, and
they really kind of just stepped upfrom that game and moving forward and they've
shown a lot of consistency. AndI think Puttnam he's having an all AEC
caliber season. I'll be surprised ifhe's not all a sc next week.

(15:58):
He's spent one of the best atthe Dafty, best center in the ACC.
And you know, I mean fromwhat they did in that Notre Dame
game, guys, to how theyfollowed that up East Georgia Tech, and
then last week where they just kindof owned a lot of scrimmage and didn't
let North Carolina do anything. Theycould run the ball, they didn't let
them get to their quarterback. Andthat's kind of performance they're gonna need today

(16:18):
against South Carolina. If they dothat today, then the Clinton fans should
be leaving Columbia happy. They shouldbe the dirt Raid, as they call
it down there. The running attackwill worked quite well last week when you
look at the net rushing yards justunder two hundred and fifty. MafA and
Shipley win together, and you know, we're not going to see this combo
for much longer. But this performancethey put on against North Carolina give the

(16:42):
credit to the offensive line for certain, but what a special duo. This
has been a duo that hopefully oneday twenty years from now, you can
tell your grandkids about. But theyjust compliment each other. So well,
yeah, like a nice little modernday thunder and lightning if you will,
Yeah, yeah, a thunder. And I think he saw last week or
the last couple of weeks, we'veseen now that Will Shiffley is that lightning

(17:04):
can give you that big playability. Now, before the Georgia Tech game,
he hadn't had a run longer thantwenty one yards and I think he's got
four now over thirty in the lasttwo weeks. So that's kind of like
Davo said, we finally got thismixt year. We figured it out now
on how to use these two guys, and the way they're using them is

(17:26):
perfect because I think Shipley gives youthat nice little change up guy who if
you come out of the backfield andcatch the ball, you know, he's
fresher now when he comes into thegame instead of carrying the load. I
think it's just a good mixture. And then MafA is that guy at the
goal line. He saw it onfourth and goal of three yard line last
week. You know, he goesand rumbles it in for a touchdown on

(17:47):
a direct snap when everybody in thestadium new the ball is coming to him.
And that's that's what you want tosee. And I think as this
year has gone on, we've seenthese guys get better, especially in the
last couple of weeks, and youknow see how us to day. So
I'm gonna tell you guys, SouthCarolina does not want will Shipley film AffA
beating them. Their game plan isto ugly this game up and to make

(18:11):
and to make take plug mcbeat them. Yeah, And uh, I think
a lot of Clemson fans were veryhappy to see film Offa there getting the
ball on those short yard carries likethat. And uh, I think maybe
the Clemson fans are saying, finally, Dabo, you listen to us,
Not that Davo Sweeney needs to listento the Clemson fans from that perspective,
And before we get your final thoughts, he just needed to listen to all

(18:34):
of them exactly. That's right. We've been yelling run the touchdown play for
every single game. And so beforewe get your final thoughts on the game
tonight at seven point thirty. We'llhave to talk basketball with you real quick.
Obviously, the Tigers get to winlast night against Alcorn State PJ Hall

(18:55):
and mister double double with twenty ninepoints, a career high. But on
Tuesday, how longer is it theACC Big Ten Challenge? It's the ACC
SEC Challenge? And how appropriate thatthey pair up Clemson and Alabama number seventeen
in the country. Alabama, yourthoughts on the Tigers this part of the
season sitting at five and Oh,it's gonna be a huge game for him.

(19:18):
Yeah, this next what the nextfive weeks? H Richmond? Who
they got coming up? I mean, this is gonna be ano. They've
got the ACC season coming up.First part of that obviously, the Alabama
Fifthsbursh South Carolina and then TCU andMemphis. Right, Memphis, that's their
next five games, right, Imean, that is a road right there.

(19:41):
Now, I'm gonna tell you what, So we're gonna learn something about
them. I think we kind ofknow with who they are already. But
when you get out there and you'replaying teams that are better composition, that
are gonna give you more difficult problems, and they're gonna match up with you,
Well, I think I think that'sgoing to gonna be the situation there
for Clinton. So we're gonna findout a lot about him here in this
next week. But I liked itup all last night in him. I

(20:03):
thought it was a good win, good solid win, double led, double
digits the whole way. We're neverreally in any serious jeopardy, and they
had different guys making plays last night. Of course PJ Hall just PJ Hall,
that's right, discontinuing his stellar playand has a chance to not only
finish the way he started pre seasonfirst team All ACC, he could definitely

(20:25):
be in contention for ACC Player ofthe Year. No doubt he'll keeps doing
it. Will Vaniver joins us,if you need a jump ball, maybe
bring him into the rotation there andnear the red zone, because PJ Hawk
could most just about anybody not hissports though, the football. I'll tell
you what though, Clemson big timeopportunity today. Will Vanderwartz our guest here

(20:48):
an inside look with Will Vanderboard fromThe Clemson Insider. And I heard you
this week on your podcast with LevonKirkland Believing Clemson Football, and you're highlighting
again some of what South Carolina hasbeen through the offensive line rotation, the
struggles in terms of pressure rate thatthey allow, the tackles for losses,
getting in the backfield again, youjust never know what this series. Pete
Limbo is kind of the X factorwith the special teams with South Carolina,

(21:11):
and it's Beamer Ball of course, but the matchups just seem to favor the
Clemson Tigers in so many ways herein terms of getting Spencer Radler off schedule,
but also just getting in the backfieldand taking second and ten into second
and fourteen range. Your thoughts onthis matchup in the trenches? Yeah,
right now, South Jawn's biggest weaponsof them is going to be special teams

(21:33):
night. They got a good gota great punn obviously, and they got
they got a dog on a goodkicker. Other than that, there really
is anywhere that concerns you, andI know some people have there like,
well all of times will what aboutsince Rattler and Leggett the receiver, well,
some of secondary matches up with themand that's not gonna be a problem
for somench of secondary this year. This isn't last year's function defense where they've

(21:55):
giving up all those big plays andranked what seventy second pass defense and you
know one hundred and something of passefficiency defense. Now this is a top
ten passing defense, and they feelokay with this matchup tonight, and so,
like you said, because of that, South Carolina is gonna want to
dink and dunk besides the Punkin's passrush and try to hope they can maybe
break some tackles and get some guysout in space. That's really gonna be

(22:18):
their biggest kind of thing they're goingto try to accomplish the night. So
I like this matchup for Clinston.I like this matchup all the way on
the offensive side when you look atthe fact South Carolina ranked thirteenth to the
SEC and pass defense, so theyclub met gonna have opportunities there. The
wide receivers are gonna have opportunities tomake plays, and they're gonna have to
because, like I said earlier,South Caroline's gonna do to Clempson to night

(22:40):
what they did at Kentucky last week, which is they're going to stack the
box and they're gonna dare Kate Cludnickand those receivers to beat them. A
couple of questions for Will van deror before get them out of here.
What's the bowl out look for Clintonright now? Assuming they win this game,
or even if they happen to lose, what are your opinions on where
they might be heading right now?If they win, then you're probably looking

(23:00):
at a Gator Bowl. You possiblymaybe the Holiday Bowl worst case scenarios with
a win tonight. With the loss, then the Holiday Bowl still in play,
probably not the Gator at that point, and you know you don't want
to fall back into the second tierbowl. So when to night. He's
Clinton in those first tear bowls withthe ACC and I know a lot of

(23:23):
Clinton fans are really aiming for thatGator Bowl. But they got a win
tonight in order to get that GatorBowl. Bit I think, all right,
we got about two minutes left here. So Will Vanderbort is our guest
here atn Inside Look with Will vanderborbbeen covering this team for a long time,
been following this program, probably sincehe was a toddler. What's your
first memory of this rivalry? Andthen the second question, what game in

(23:47):
this one and twentieth edition today standsout the most to you? Is high
drama just amazing. Finish a littlethought on that if you will. Yeah,
So I started off with music. My first memory. My first memory
was the seventy seven game to catchfor Jerry Butler, and I don't really
remember the play as much as thereaction of my family when I come from

(24:10):
a Cumpson family and they when Jerrymade that catch, my whole family went
crazy. By the that was thefirst Clinton South Carolina game ever on television,
and you know, Clemson went uptwenty four to nothing, and South
Carolina came back, made at twentyseven to twenty four, and then Clumpston
goes on a touchdown drive and withforty one seconds to go, Butler makes
what everybody knows, you can catcha Clumpson's leaping, twisting catch that was

(24:34):
really steep. Fuller was trying tothrow out of bounds. That's my first
memory. Probably the best game thatI saw, you know, man,
there's just so many good ones here, you know, between the two,
you know, for me, Iguess it would be probably the Buckhols game
where Simpson had I not remember ifI remember correctly, they had first in

(24:57):
thirty in that game and ended upgetting somehow finding a way to get a
first down Aaron Kelly with a coupleof plants, and then they then they
got then they got a field goalthat gotten field gold ranks there at the
end of Buckolts makes the field goals. Also, I cans probably put Charlie
Whitehurst's, you know, also thatone where he was first in twenty three

(25:18):
and on the last drive and theygo and get the game winning touchdown with
James Davis to win thirteen to nine. And whitehurshy of course was four and
zero against them, so you know, so yeah, those are some of
the ones that stick out for me. I guess awesome stuff. Will Vanderward
from Clemson Insider with an inside lookhere on the Ingles Tailgates show. He's
down there at Will he be makinghis way through the tailgating and we wish

(25:38):
you safety first and then all thebest coming up tonight. Follow him at
Steeler Will on Twitter X for allthe updates throughout the game. Will enjoy
yourself, my friend. The season'scoming to an end pretty soon, but
we always appreciate your contributions. Myman. Hey guys, I appreciate man,
and well, i's talk to you. I guess somewhere on the Boom
Trail next time I thought they We'llbe there for you, absolutely no doubt

(26:00):
out wherever they land, we'll bethere with you. Will Van Devord enjoyed
man. There he is. Youcan follow him at Steeler Will on Twitter.
So much to get to over thenext hour and a half or so.
Coming up next to our good friendMelissa Level from Ingles Markets is here
and she's gonna tell us about notonly her Florida State seminals. I know,
Clemson fans, you got a bearand granted for a couple of minutes,
but also everything Ingles is doing aroundyour fine community. That and much

(26:22):
more is Ingles Tailgate Show rolls onon ninety two point five. Weesc this
is the Ingles Tailgate Show on ninetytwo point five. W E. SSE

(26:49):
coming to you live from campinat Plaza. It's a little chilly, don't let
that stop you. It's a goodcrowd out here as the Ingles Tailgate Show
is in the full swing, gettingyou ready for the one hundred and twentieth
edition of Game Cocks and Tigers. We're gonna talk about that in much more
detail throughout the next hour or so. Quick update Richmond Michigan has opened up
a ten point lead on Ohio Stateearly fourth quarter, and they're struggling to

(27:11):
move the ball up there. OhioState is and the Jim Harball not Jim
Harble have a Donovan Edwards his onlythirty four yard pass in this game off
a half back passin Blake Corn runningwild. Twenty seven to seventeen is a
score right now. If they're fourthfourth quarter, they're playing in Michigan.
I think that's a better win forFlorida State, higher rated team to be

(27:33):
a bit knocked down a little bit, so case you're wondering, and you
shouldn't be wondering. That's the unmistakablevoice of our next guest, the director
of advertising from Ingles Markets, MelissaLevel, not only doing a great job
with Ingles and we're gonna get toall they're doing in the community right now
this holiday season, but a hugecollege football cat and such an instrumental part
of what this show has been forthe fourth season. Can belive it's fourth

(27:55):
seasons, It's and we're gonna Imay have a very wonderful announcement to make
that it will be five. Ohyou need the breaking us time there back
in the studio. We're all setto go rolled out with everybody with WC
and then the course with Clemson too. So we're so excited to be partnering
fantastic. So we are thrilled tosay, you know what, we got

(28:18):
a bowl game to go to.So but you know, I think I'm
going to be working it out becauseyou're going be back here next time.
Christmas early. Suddenly don't feel sochilly out here anymore. It's nice and
warm. So Melissa, let's talka little bit about college football. You're
a huge Florida State fan and theunfortunate injury to Jordan Travis of course,
who's just a remarkable young man,a great player, and now this Florida

(28:38):
State team before we get back tothe Clemson side, Look, it's it's
a big game tonight. Obviously withFlorida, the talk is, well,
they're out of the top five forthe top four because of the injury,
and how do they see this teamnow? But get your thoughts on what's
been a great turnaround for Mike Norvelleand now where do they go from here?
It's a trufic turnaround. But Ias much as I love Jordan Travis,
and I think that he's handled thissituation like a pro. I think

(29:00):
it should have been a team overall. Look, as far as I know,
Richmond has some opinions on that aswell. And you know, top
five is not bad to be andyou know, and I do agree that
some of the teams have a betterresume as far as difficulty and schedule.
But I think if we come backand play with a vengeance, we should
be fine. Yes. So no, so we're aligned because I do not

(29:22):
think that Florida State should be penalizedbased on Jordan Travis his injury, and
you can't project what the team somebodyweapens Yes, so definitely do So you
can't say that Florida State would notbe able to compete, because I know
they would. I'm just looking atit, and I think the committee looks
at it as a from a weekto week basis, and Florida State playing
Northern Alabama that past week, andwe saw that Washington play in Oregon State

(29:45):
and getting the victory, and that'sthe top twenty teams, So it was
more of the resume at that time, and so I do believe that we
do it can just flip, butdo you remember a time when your quarterback
got injured and you thought anything wasover and Clemson and the who who was
that Trevor guy that came in wantof transferred out? I watched it on

(30:07):
the Clemson's Greatest Games by the way, with the Emmy Award winning series,
but it was really good. ButI mean, you know, you kind
of look at it takes not thatkind of quarterback. But I do think
that he has the weapons. He'sgot Ke Coleman, He's got Johnny Wilson,
he's got as his running back.Yes, the defensive side, you
got Jared Verse there, Edge,You've got some talented players there. Mike

(30:29):
Norvel is building a culture there ina foundation that it's going to make Florida
State a powerhouse over the next severalyears. And I don't know if anybody
saw our freshman quarterback, five starrecruit store scored two touchdowns last week.
I mean, I know it wasbut I mean it was really winning the
ball through. I just think inthe fact that George's been there, he's
been at the practices, He's goingto be at the game. Yes,
I think he's becoming and staying theleader. I think that we have to

(30:52):
win out you do, Yes,there's no question about it. But beat
in Kentucky right now? And howmany times so have we seen when teams
have some type of adversity and theyseem to be galvanized based something like that,
Yes, exactly why would they notbe galvanized by Jordan Travis Because he's
a consummate leader, consummate leader andcontinuing, as you mentioned, to still

(31:18):
be involved there and that's a bigpart of why Florida States had success this
year, right And I think Ido think that I think, you know,
none of the people that are fallinginto place right now are him,
Okay, And I hate this forhim, but I do think that the
way he handled he said that hasa plan for me. I have a
smile on my face because I knowit'll be the best for me. I
love that about him. I lovethe fact that he hasn't stepped out of

(31:41):
his leadership role. He's doing itjust in a different way. But I
think we you know, you listen, you could be all day long,
okay, lose every single game, and when you're a state rivalry, okay,
so this is not an easy forus. But I think there's some
things going for us the fact thatthey don't have a quarterback either right now.

(32:02):
Because that well, and if youwant to hear more about Jordan Travis,
people should go out there and listento the Gramlic and maclae great podcast
and they have a couple of interviewswith Jordan Travis over the past season and
they're absolutely fantastic with that and Ithink those are absolutely wonderful. And yeah,
that's a good segue. It's great. That's a sponsor. Friends at

(32:23):
Engles Markets, and there's some fantasticthings going on with the graanl doing Care
actually matching their five thousand dollars donationthis year, and Ingles is putting in
five thousand dollars and we're going tobe doing gift cards and donating to the
some food back to different extensions inthe Clemson area. All of that money,
ten thousand dollars is going to goto feed families in the Clemson area.

(32:45):
As we're talking with Melissa Level, director of advertising for Ingles Markets,
why is Ingles still so involved froma sports uh standpoint and then within the
community and giving back like this,Well, I think from a sports standpoint,
there's a couple of reasons. Firstof all, I mean it's really
good business, okay. But also, I mean we watched some of these

(33:05):
kids go up. They were fromhigh school, junior high school, into
college. I mean they've worked inour stores, their families work in our
stores, their fans or are shopperswith us. You know, it's something
that brings everybody together, and we'reall about that. We're a big company
for me to say, a greatbig company, twenty seven thousand employees,
two hundred and four stores, sixstates. But each one of our stores
is a beacon in their community.Yeah, okay. And we're very very

(33:29):
localized when it comes to that, and it's very important to us when it
comes to local farmers with local interests, and so we're involved in what our
communities are involved in. And youknow that makes it fun for me because
I love sports. Oh yes, exactly, So it's easy. Second of
sports, I'd be remiss Richmond ifI didn't mention it. And this is
your neck of the woods, richmore than anybody's the hardwood. How about
the Ashville Championship that markets and withtwo come from behind wins in that,

(33:52):
What a great event you guys werepart of as well. Yeah, we
were the sponsors of that, andof course Richmond was great calling all this
thank you to give a lot ofmiles doing so well. I know,
I absolutely wonderful, and I haveto say, you know I needed my
defibulator for a couple of those days. But you know, we knew they
were going to be great matchups. You knew that was going to happen.
You know, we bring Davidson andyou ay be the both stories coming to

(34:14):
Maryland. A lot of people thatMaryland was going to be like the maybe
dark horse for the final four,so they were a little bit of a
disappointment, but Clemson showed out andit's really great. I do have to
say my seminals win. They're alittle championship. That's right, Yes about
that. Will always have them agelessone. He always looks like long guest,
somebody doesn't get tonsled. This isye. We're gonna be fine.

(34:34):
That's true. Everything the world thatcould happen last year happened, like you
have what well, this is greatwhat you mentioned here Ingles Clemson Tigers teaming
up to donate how many gift cards? Again? Okay, now this is
this is the Kellen grandmother, theMcLean and Glamors were doing the ten thousand
dollars worth, but Clemson and Ingles, if we can get a victory out
tonight, which I think really goodis going to happen. Okay, it'll

(34:55):
be the seventy second win against theGear. Okay, so we're going to
do seventy two twenty five dollars giftcards that Ingles is donating that will go
to directly to the club extension. So it'll be really wonderful. Is such
a good partner with us. Welove them, their their fans are great
fans, and you know, exceptfor one game a year, right,
just absolutely love them and root forthem every minute. Got to and then

(35:20):
you've got the five dollars food bagsgoing on at Inglish. Talk to us
about how we can get involved withthat during this holiday season, right,
and this is a non sports relatedone, so anybody could go unless,
of course, you just will gotake out high five and go into any
angles, any angles in our entirecompany. You'll see already pre prepared five
dollars bags. They're loaded with food. They will go directly to a food
pantry that is right near our store. Okay, they're not going to go

(35:42):
to some bigger food boundry and youcan. You can buy the five dollar
bag. Don't even have to worryabout what's in it. It's what the
food banks are needing. A lotof the ones in South Carolina going to
Miracle Hill. We have the onesthat are going to Clemson Extension. We
have several of that. So it'sit's absolutely a wonderful opportunity you're out shopping
anyway, it's simple of purchase fivedollars. Actually it's a family of four,
believe it or not. That's fantastic. Great cause. Melissa Level,

(36:02):
director of advertising from Ingles Markets,We're gonna leave you with this question here.
Who wins tonight? Come on,you have a prediction on Cox Tigers.
Oh? I think it's Tigers allthe way. I really do.
This is a revenge game for youguys, Okay. I think you want
to playing your best football of theseason. Okay, I mean you had
the little hiccup along the way,and you know Dabbo got them where he

(36:23):
wanted them to be. Quarterback iscoming of age. I think it's a
I think it's an easy victory.Okay. So the other question that I
have though, is are you goingto Charlotte for the a CEC champe A.
No. I was kind of hopingthat Louisville will get a little beat
up today, but it doesn't seemlike they're happening that that's happening. But
I will be there December second atBank of America Stadium, rooting on my

(36:45):
team. They need a good gameup there in Charlotte. It's been a
rough go for the NFL side.I can show another day. I can
tell you right now that is thirtyone, thirty one. Louisville and Kentucky
are tied with about a minute anda half to go in the fourth tes.
Yes, they're getting tested right now, tested by the wild Gay.
I think if we went out weshould be in. Though I think here

(37:05):
we are. But I mean it'snot gonna be an easy one for us
today either, you know tonight it'sgonna be fun. I think Clemson's on
its way back up the up themountain. I think it's really great up
the food chain, as we wouldsay, and Melissa level again, thank
you for all thanks, thanksgiving youand we're excited for another year of this.
That's rights yet couldn't be a betterteam. I'm just so excited to
be part of it and to seeyou guys do such great work every single

(37:28):
week. Thank you is mutual.Melissa Level, director of Advertising for Ingles
Markets. Here on the Ingles TailgateShow. Coming up next, Let's take
a look at the scoreboard around thetop twenty five and a little more on
the game Cocks and Tigers, whichkicks off tonight at seven thirty. I'm
John Ellison's Richmond Weaver back after this. This is the Ingles Tailgate Show on
ninety two point five w E sC. Now Here are your hosts,

(37:52):
John Ellis and Richmond Weaver. Songsong of the Sound. Well, trying

(38:12):
to get warmed up here with alittle song of the South. It's not
working, but Melissa Level always warmsus up with some football conversation and great
talk about what Ingles is doing inyour community. And it was great to
speak with Melissa Level, director ofAdvertising for Ingles Markets, for more information
on everything going on in the communitythat Ingles is doing. Ingles Dashmarkets dot
com and there your tailgating headquarters.Stop in today get everything you need for

(38:34):
the day ahead. Ingles low prices, love the savings Rich. It's getting
down to the wire with some ofthese games. You me and Mel we're
just looking at this. How aboutKentucky rich going up on Louisville by seven
with a minute left, a minuteto go in this game there in Louisville.
So Kentucky's up thirty eight to thirtyone. Ohio State has come back
to close the deficit twenty seven totwenty four. Marvin Harrison Junior with another

(38:58):
touchdown and he just got used toshowcase his talents there for Ohio State and
LSU with a thirty five to thirtylead there with about five minutes ago in
the fourth quarter. So those aresome of the big headlines right now as
the Tiger's getting ready for kickoff alittle after seven thirty pm down in willy
Be against the game Cocks. That'sright, we're here with you up until

(39:20):
about four thirty, getting you readyfor that game and getting you set with
all that it entails. Will VanDervoor gave us a really good breakdown I
thought rich of what to expect, and we'll talk more about that game in
particular. What's happening in the toptwenty five outside of this, you got
the iron ball coming up Alabama Auburn. That's at three point thirty on CBS.
And I was watching College Game Daythis morning, Ridge before we came
in and talking about the huge playthat happened ten years ago with the kicksex,

(39:45):
you know, the Kicksex, andhow it changed so many lives and
how people got engaged after that. The euphoria of winning a game like that
can affect so many people. AndAlabama over the last eight trips is four
and four in Auburn. So again, this could take some things up too,
not only in the SEC, butthey're eighth right now. It could
really put it then in their chancesif they go down there to Jordan Hare

(40:07):
Stadium come out with an L.Well that's why, I mean, you
look at it. I know there'stwo weeks left in college football. Obviously
this is the last regular season, but you have the conference championships, and
how chaos can still occur in thesenext two weeks in terms of teams that
can be spoilers or teams that canthrust themselves into the top four, or
there's going to be a team that'sgoing to fall out and not be in

(40:30):
a good position, going to besitting on the outside looking in and probably
not too happy, and one ofthose teams could be the loser of the
Ohio State Michigan game. Right,Yeah, some games that already went final
here as we had just a fullmenu of football between the NFL and College
Oregon with a convincing win over OregonState, Bo Knicks may have sealed the

(40:51):
Heisman, although let's wait on JaydenDaniels because he's having a hell of a
game today. But the bigger newsat Oregon State their coach, Jonathan Smith
is taking the job at Michigan State. So one of the emerging programs here
up there in Corvallis loses their headcoach in Michigan State. Sounds like they're
getting a good one. Well inMichigan State needs some help because they lost
forty two to zero to Penn Stateyesterday, so they need a reboot,
so to speak. And Jonathan Smithhas shown what he's been able to do

(41:14):
at Oregon State, a team that'sbeen very competitive this year, just not
able to get over the hump obviouslyagainst Washington or their arch rival, the
Oregon Ducks. There no doubt aboutit. Forty two nothing was the final
number seven Texas Big over Texas Techfifty seven to seven. We finally got
to see Arch Manning play a littlefootball. Oh what much? What the

(41:35):
air apparent Manning in there, thethird generation of such Mannings play a little
football. We'll see how long andif he stays there and how much he
plays down the stretch into next season. Missouri just absolutely boat racing Arkansas forty
eight to fourteen, and it putstheir chances of a big time bowl game
right in the just a front andcenter there, Twulane big win over Utsa.

(41:58):
You had Iowa and nebraskafully. Iwatched that game because I'm always curious
about well good defense in Matt Ruhleand Matt Rule. I could you know,
I've seen this before with the Panthers. Just the mismanagement of clock in
issues late and that field goal thatpoor kid that kicked for Nebraska. That
thing was all the way in themiddle of Kansas from the from Lincoln.
They lose a classic Iowa type ofgame thirteen to ten. I would look,

(42:19):
say what you will, They're defenseand even Nebraska's defense quite good,
but offensively that set football back abouttwenty years. This was a game that
you might have more excitement watching paintdry than that game, and the only
reason that I actually did tune into that game. Also granted that it
was college football, so yes,so there is that aspect. But on
our sister station one O four nineFox Sports Upstate, I actually picked that

(42:43):
game as one of my five gamesthat I pick, and I picked Iowa.
Iowa was an underdog on the roadto Nebraska there two and a half
point underdog, and so I feltthat, all right, yes, I'm
going to give me the points therewith Iowa, and I knew it would
be a low scoring game, butI looked at the over under it was
twenty five and a half and Nebraska'skicker helped a lot of people out there,

(43:06):
and the whole question, so twentythree points, How in the world
do you go under the twenty fiveand a half. But well we did
see that. But Iowa, now, obviously they struggle from an offensive standpoint,
But we'll see how they might playagainst Michigan o Ohio State in the
Big Ten Championship because they can obviouslygrind some things down, especially on that

(43:29):
defensive side, and slow you downand gets you in mud, so to
speak, and can run the clockand not give you many opportunities on the
offensive side, and that's typically whathappened. So Iowa might give somebody a
little bit of struggle for a while. I was checking the score out last
night between Oklahoma and TCU, andI thought a basketball game broke out.
I think it did. Sixty ninefive. Venables team hovering around the top

(43:51):
fifteen right now, thirteenth. That'sa big win for coach Venables against the
team last year that was in theCollege Football Playoff. I OTCU has taken
a tumble here, but again coachVnables, there's been some ups and downs.
Dylan Gabriel a name we don't mentionenough for Heisman possibilities. He deserves
at least to be on that stage. I think there's been two games this
season where the over under is fifthover, I think fifty seven and a

(44:14):
half and over for Oklahoma, andin both of those games, Oklahoma scored
over the over by themselves. That'scrazy. They're putting out some points and
that's a start contrast to where coachVnables team was in year one. And
then good for him. Brent's agood guy. We liked him from his
time down here and Clemson a lotof fans loved him, and there we
go with that. How about thisgame with Louisville and Kentucky, without violating

(44:37):
FCC policies and giving out play byplay, I can tell you that under
fifteen seconds remaining in this game, and Louisville has the ball down seven in
Kentucky territory around the forty yard line, and we'll see what happens from there.
LSU twelve point lead now at homeagainst Texas A and M. A
and M is backed up in theirown red zone. So that's tough for
A and M losing their coach, timbo Fisher. And obviously now the search

(44:59):
is on for a new coach downthere at College Station, and a lot
of people suggest that Brian Day,among others, could be prominent among that
search. Mike Elko's name mentioned aswell. I mean, if you're looking
at this from your perspective, Iknow how you feel about Texas A and
M. But if you're wishing thebest for that program, let's just play
a little role play here. Whatare some of the names you're looking at
and saying, Okay, we've gonea big name before, maybe it's time

(45:20):
to just go coach that can amplifythe program through recruiting and through teaching and
coaching, and maybe that's not JimboFisher esque type of names out there.
Yeah, that'll be interesting to seeif they follow a path very similar to
Florida State going after Mike Norvel whodid a fantastic job at Memphis and coming
down in somewhat regrouping. The basisthere for Florida State, But do you

(45:43):
go after a big name? Doyou take a big swing at a Ryan
Day? I don't think Ryan Dayis going to leave Ohio State for Texas
A and M. I don't knowwhere those reports are coming from. But
there's also another former Ohio State coachthat it would be so typical that Texas
A and M would try to takea swing at Urban vinl oh And I

(46:04):
know there's a lot of people shakingtheir heads when you mentioned that, and
I completely understand, and I don'tthink that it would be in Texas A
and M's best interest, But itwouldn't surprise me if Texas A and M
does something just like that. Whatwould surprise you? To stay in the
age. But but I had atip not only to dj Ueyunglia, but
Jonathan Smith up there at Oregon DJUhad a lot of fans down here in

(46:28):
these neck of the woods, andhe put together a nice season four that
quarterback, within that offense, andso I think that was a positive taken
away from their little update on MichiganOhio State. But the big House,
they're under two minutes now. OhioState has one time out left, They're
trailing by three. Michigan has theball in field goal range. At the
moment, they have all three timeoutsleft. Again, the clock continues to

(46:50):
tick. It's looking increasingly unlikely thatOhio State is gonna get out of here
with a win, which would putMichigan without their head coach, Jim Harball
at the helm the last few gamesat the undefeated mark going into this college
football playoffs. So again, younever know things gonna happen over the next
couple of minutes, but it lookslike Michigan is in a great position to
put this thing away. The winprobability for Michigan right now is seventy nine

(47:14):
point nine percent. It's not onehundred. It's so there is still a
chance that Ohio State could wreak somehavoc here. For Michigan and Jim Harball,
no doubt about it. It looksas though Kentucky right now is celebrating
and they're in a play by playreview play replay review. Looks like Kentucky's

(47:34):
gonna get out of there with thewin against Louisville. They're celebrating. Yes,
so Louisville has lost to their instate rival Kentucky, a bit of
a stunner their top ten team. There are a couple seconds left on the
clock. Apparently. We'll give youa full update when we come back from
break, at which point we willdive into the series history, and as
we do every single week, fireup the Dolorean and look back on this
day. I think we might havea few candidates for series history and on

(47:58):
this day today, as there's beena lot lot of games played in this
series over the years, we'll alsotake a deeper dive into the Heisman conversation
more on the top twenty five, and we'll size up Clemson's opportunity today to
get a win against South Carolina.Should be competitive. This is Ingles Tailgate
Show. I'm John Ois, that'sRichmond Weaver. We are live from Camperdown
Plaza and we'll be here for thenext hour. So right here on ninety

(48:19):

about thirty minutes ago with an insidelook. He's down there live at Willy
be getting ready for this big game. The Melissa level as well from Ingles
Markets, coming by to confirm notonly the fact that she believes in her
Florida state symbols, then she should. But we'll be back for a fifth
year of the Ingles tail gates. He believe us. That's great to know
breaking news on the show. Sowe are just beyond thrilled and beyond honored

(49:52):
to continue that partnership with our finefriends at Ingles. Before we hit up
a little on this day in Clemsonhistory, want to just give you a
quick update. Michigan right now upby three in this game against the Ohio
State has just added a field goal. They are up by six with a
minute left. So can Kyle McCordand Marvin Harrison Junior work a little magic

(50:13):
with no timeouts. They'll get thekickoff and we'll see what happens. Man,
it's always drama. Texas A andM looks like they're gonna fall short
there, down by twelve. TheLSU Jaden Daniels has about four hundred total
yards in this game. We'll seewhere he is in the Heisman Race in
Louisville. It's just gone final numberten. Louisville has lost at home to
Kentucky. So certainly some shakeups therein the top twenty five, and we'll
just kind of get our ducks arounand figure out where this all falls in

(50:36):
the playoff picture. Kyle McCord rightnow. He started this game Richmond against
Michigan four of ten with a pickin the first quarter. Since then,
twelve of sixteen, two touchdowns.Marvin Harrison has been amazing. So we're
gonna find out here shortly, probablyafter your segment here at a minute,
what happens in this game with thatsid Like we do every week, it's
time to fire it up. Let'slook back in time on this day in

(50:58):
Clemson history with Richard Sire up theGlorean of time to take a trip down
memory lane. Who going, wedon't need road? It's o TD on
this day and Clemson football history. Here's Richmond Weaver November the twenty fifth,

(51:20):
So let's go all the way backto nineteen thirty nine. Clemson would end
its season eight and one in theregular season with a fourteen to three victory
over the firm and Paladins and ShadBryant ran for ninety four yards and also
had another seventy five yards in puntreturns in that victory, which helped secure
Clemson's first ever bowl bid, thefirst bowl they ever went to, which

(51:45):
was a trip to the nineteen fortyCotton Bowl on Dallas Exit. One of
the Big Ones, the Big Boys. How about this? In nineteen sixty
seven, Clemson beat South Carolina twentythree to twelve to claim the ACC title.
Yes, this is when South Carolinawas part of the accist Buddy Gore

(52:05):
broke the ACC single season rushing recordwith one thousand, forty five yards and
finished the season eighth in the nationin rushing for the Tigers. And in
nineteen seventy eight, Clemson fans usedthe South Upper deck for the first time.
In Clemson's forty one to twenty threevictory over South Carolina, Clemson had

(52:25):
three running backs gain over one hundredyards rushing in the game for the first
time since nineteen fifty and the victoryalso clinched Clemson's first ten win season since
nineteen forty eight, Yes, thirtyyears. And in two thousand and seventeen,
Clemson would defeat rival South Carolina forthe fourth straight year behind the receiving

(52:49):
of none other than Hunter Renfro anda defense that allowed just two hundred and
seven yards and ten points. Renfrohad two receiving touchdowns, including a sixth
d catch and run in which heeluded the entire South Carolina defense. And
I remember watching little runner Infro justmake magic there against South Carolina. Then

(53:10):
we know what that would become. That's right, nobody could catch him.
And Clemson is eight seven and oneall time and games played on this date
November the twenty fifth, including winsin seven of its last eight November twenty
fifth games. So there you go, little OTD for Clemson football history.
November the twenty fifth. Good fivesloved Richmond, and we look into the

(53:31):
all time series here the most winsversus single opponent in Clemson's history, of
course at South Carolina seventy two fortythree. And those pesky four ties that
we always talk about. It's nota game of ties anymore here in college
football, of course. And youlook at what these programs have done over
the not just recent years, butover the course of this rivalry. It's

(53:53):
certain to know that Clemson has theirnumber. I look back at some of
the games I've attended to come tomind. One of the first ones I
ever was in attendance for for themedia was back in two thousand Richmond.
Of course, the game with RodGardner at the end. Yes, they
push off. Some would say greatbody control by Rod Gardner, but I
would say the temperature was about twentydegrees colder than it is now. Oh,

(54:15):
yes, it was great atmosph wasthere and it was one of those
games that was the magical season forWoodrow Danzler. We saw Willie Simmons in
the mix as well. That wasa special moment in this robbery. When
you look back upon your years ofgoing to these games and covering these games.
Obviously last year was a sour onefor Clemson, but just looking at
the great games that have been overthe years with this series, what sticks

(54:35):
out to you? Oh, Idefinitely remember that one, just remembering how
cold it was. And my oldestchild had just been born in June of
that year, yes, and sohe was there all bundled up. I
mean he was six months old.Basically obviously no memory whatsoever, but just
how life came full circle as hegraduated from Clemson a year ago, and

(54:57):
so there's obviously all types of specialmemory there, but one of my still
favorites is twenty and sixteen. Youknow, we can talk about the twenty
fifteen with Deshaun Watson on the tornacl all that goodness, but the following
season with Mike Williams as he iscarrying South Carolina defenders on his back into
the end zone, the spin andjust carrying that's still one of the memorable

(55:22):
moments that I have. And beingable to showcase just how good Mike Williams
was and obviously what Deshaun Watson wasable to do for the Tigers. But
that was again continuing that streak whereClemson was just so dominant not only against
their rival South Carolina, but inall of college football. I'd be remiss
if I didn't mention in the twothousand game, it was Richmond, We've

(55:43):
res oldest son who I almost brokemy hand last night. Yeah, last
week, I should say, shakingmy hand put some perspective how old we're
all getting here. The fifty yardreception by Rod Gardner was the catch too.
That's what it's known as Woody Danzler, Aaron Hunts game winning field goal,
and the holder, of course weknow it was Jeff Scott. Yeah,
he's been part of this coaching stats, part of the great that just
continues to tell the story, youknow, being able to. And I

(56:06):
had Jeff Scott on my podcast RicheTake on Sports, and we got to
talk about that and just his memoryof that and how special that was.
And then obviously full circle for himthat then he's coaching as Clemson wins a
national championship. So two magical momentsthat he remembers distinctly in his career at
Clemson. And it's great in thisrivalry when you can make the other team

(56:29):
pay in a situation where they're playingfor something at stick obviously Clemson is playing
for a more prominent bowl position, and then for a lot of pride obviously
in South Carolina needs this win fora lot of reasons in the bull picture.
But you look at what happened hereback in two thousand and five,
you mentioned Charlie Whitehurst. Sterling Showshowed it our good friend wolf Enervoard Clemson

(56:50):
back in that game. It gaveWhitehurst a four and zero record against South
Carolina as the starting quarterback, andit was the only time that Clemson had
beaten a top twenty South Carolina teamin Colombia. That's not the case this
year, but the wins they've haddown there in Columbia, they've had a
heck of a record on the roadagainst this team too, and some big

(57:12):
scoring margins along the way of lateOh, no question about it. And
it's obviously skewed more towards games inColombia because for the longest time, all
the games were played in Colombia,so it was a little bit different when
you look at the rivalry and howthat was played. And so now obviously
Clemson has been able to take advantageof both home and on the road and

(57:35):
have been dominant from that standpoint insome of those victories. But now obviously
losing this pass last year, Ishould say thirty one to thirty, and
now can they reclaim that magic goingon the road and looking at Davos Sweeney
against SEC opponents, he has neverlost three games in a row to SEC
opponents, and so obviously he lostto South Carolina and they lost to Tennessee

(58:00):
at the end of last year,so he needs to break that streak.
Here and get a victory down there. And just a bit of news in
the Ohio State Michigan game, OhioState was driving and Michigan intercepted calum Accord.
So it does look like Michigan isgoing to win that game. As
we have the number three Michigan Wolverineslooks like they're going to hold on against

(58:22):
the number two Ohio State Buckeyes. And this is what you're talking about,
how some of these rivalry games andhow they can mean something. And obviously
this means something Clemson in South Carolinaand this is where I feel like I'm
still in the minority because I wantSouth Carolina to be good except when they
play Clemson. I know, Iknow exactly he's making a little face at

(58:46):
you know, it's blasphemy to saythat, but I say it in the
context of when you look at likethe Michigan Ohio State game, just can
you imagine if this was Clemson numberthree, South care Line in number two
and the rivalry game, and justwhat that atmosphere would be like in the

(59:06):
energy level and everything associated rock.So that's what I want. I can
tell you that from a podcast asa journalist. Yeah, give me all
that all day long. But yeah, you're right. I mean this game
right here, Ohio State was driving. They were on the plus side of
the field, remarkably so, withno timeouts left, and they throw a
pick at the end. Coyle McCordhad a bit of a rough day up
and down. They're underway right now, by the way down there at Jordan

(59:28):
Hare for the Iron Bowl Alabama againstDalburne. We'll give you updates on that
as well as Tennessee Vandy. Tennessee'salready up on Vanny seven nothing one minute
into the game. Well, okay, singing Rocky talking. Sixty seconds into
this game, Liberty's up on UTEPright now, seven to nothing. Some
big time top twenty five games lieahead for us here. As we can
see here on our monitor, Michiganis storming the field of the Big House.

(59:51):
And what a job for their interimstaff, the entire staff without Jim
Harrball. Although there will be alots of mixed opinions, there are a
lot of mixed feelings about this program'svalidity with the wins, and I'm sure
a lot's going to come out overthe next few months on who knew what
and when and where and I'll justkeep saying this about Jim Harball. He's
been flirting with the NFL for afew years now. If something comes to

(01:00:13):
like, because there's more than oneinvestigation, let's face it about Michigan,
keep an eye on him for theNFL, just saying so we'll see what
happens there. And when you lookat what's going on with Clemson before we
hit a break here with this gameagainst South Carolina, you've had a chance
Rich to be down there on campustalking to a lot of the players that
were a part of that game lastyear. Obviously, there's a kind of
a new shift to the freshman focusright now in the secondary. Some guys

(01:00:34):
on the defensive line, even thoughon the offensive line, have they talked
to you a little bit about notjust the revenge factor, but just taking
the pride back from this rivalry islast year. That was a stunner seeing
that in that stadium against a teamyou know you're probably better than, but
turnovers and special teams that Troy Wolvescan just end everything for you. I
think it is more from the perspectiveof when you say revenge, and they

(01:00:57):
didn't want to use that word revengebecause it was more that they wanted to
make sure they were not focusing onrevenge, but they were focusing on the
little things that they needed to doto win. And where in that game
maybe they lost some of that focusas you're up by fourteen points and allow
South Carolina to come back into thatgame. And so I think that's something

(01:01:20):
to do with it. But asyou mentioned, pride, that is definitely
a topic of discussion that this isabout pride for these Clemson Tigers, regardless
of what the season looks like, where they might be in position for a
bowl game or each season if itwas college football playoff, had nothing to
do with that. It was allabout winning the game against South Carolina.

(01:01:43):
And we've obviously heard Dabo Sweeney talkabout, Hey, you play to the
Clemson standard, you don't play tothe uniform. So you've got to prepare
each and every game as you're preparingfor to play to your standard. And
the players buy into that. Nowthey will do some different things in terms
of they're playing sandstorm throughout the week, you know, to get them into

(01:02:06):
that type of mindset. But knowingthat that you also have to continue to
prepare and not almost psych yourself outthat oh, it's South Carolina. It's
South Carolina. No, you continueto prepare that you would for any other
opponent, just making sure you're doingthe things that you need to do for
the Clemson standard. But then theplayers did say, but when you get

(01:02:28):
out there on that field, that'swhen that switch gets flipped and then you
realize, Okay, this is bigtime, this is for the state,
this is for our fans, andwe want to go and show out for
the fans and that pride aspect,so they can walk around for three hundred
and sixty four days and beaming witha victory. That's it. It's all

(01:02:51):
about pride, and it's all aboutClemson South Carolina. Kickoff tonight seven thirty
pm. You can hear all theaction right here on ninety two point five
WBSC. Hit a break, comeback, talk a little more about the
college football playoff picture or maybe conundrum, as Michigan probably cost a few people
a little heartburned today with their bigwin. We'll size it up and talk
about the Heisman picture as well asJayden Daniels. I got some stats on

(01:03:15):
him from the day Richmond. That'llopen your eyes. We'll get to that
and the final matchups between South CarolinaClemson. Where can this Tigers team exploit
South Carolina on the other side?Where does South Carolina perhaps have a bit
of a chance to win this game? Break it all down with you right
here on the Ingles Tailgate Show Livefrom Camperdown Plaza ninety two point five WSC.

(01:03:37):
This is the Ingles Tailgate Show onninety two point five w e SC.
Now Here are your hosts, JohnEllis and Richmond Weaver. Get you

(01:04:04):
set for kickoff tonight seven thirty Inadvance of that, this is the Eagles
Tailgate Show live from Camperdown Plastic.Come on out and see us here.
We are here until four thirty pm. And it's so good to be with
you. I hope I've read hada great Thanksgiving rich you as well.
I know we've been talking. Ohyes, during our station hours there on
Fox Sports Upstate. Listen to us. There are I Heart Radio partners there

(01:04:26):
one of four point nine. Youhost the Richmond we were show at three.
I host game on at four pmweekdays and our producer Trey Fancote,
were talking during the week about ourTurkey Day draft, like what do we
eat, what do we don't eat, so I'll put you on the spot.
Oh what was your favorite side? What's your favorite side dish? My
friend on a Turkey day? Yeah, you know I am still just take
me all the way back to mychildhood. I love some just plain old

(01:04:49):
I mean, and I shouldn't sayplain ol. I just love the old
school macaroni and cheese. Nothing wrongwith it. There's nothing wrong with macaron
cheese as a stable. That iscomfort food. That is just three reality
of it. And actually went alittle different this year for Thanksgiving with my
kids coming back to Greenville from Clemsonand my daughter goes to South Carolina,

(01:05:11):
so we have a little bit ofa house divide it. Yeah, yes
exactly, but it is all goodso either way we win. But they
did not want turkey this year. They wanted steak, so we actually did
steak and then all of the sidesthat would go with Thanksgiving. So a
little bit different there, but itwas fantastic. That's awesome. I had
to try that one of these dayshere. It was turkey and it was

(01:05:32):
ham. It was everything for theYellis House. And I had to say,
my favorite side would probably be sweetpotato sou file. Just you gotta
have the marshmallows on top. It'snothing without those. Back to football.
I hope you all had a greatThanksgiving, by the way, and it's
going to be with you here onthe English Tailgate Show. Final scores here
that have been trickling in and Richmondgave you an update here moments ago on

(01:05:54):
Michigan's thirty to twenty four win. It's gonna get interesting, rich as we
see the rest of these games, that implications take shape, not only over
this weekend but the championship weekend thatfollows here. Oregon, of course number
six in the country, made agreat case for themselves this weekend with a
thirty one to seven win over OregonState Michigan thirty twenty four. As we
talked about Louisville, Ah boy, they had an opportunity there to really climb

(01:06:16):
up those rankings. They lose toKentucky LSU with a big win forty two
to thirty. I want to talkHeisman with you for a minute before we
get into that, because Jaden Daniels, I don't know if there's a quarterback
playing at a higher level right nowthan Bo Nicks. Jaden Daniels. I'm
starting to think it comes down tothose two, and it's unfortunate for some
guys out there that have been injured. But his stat line today was off

(01:06:40):
the chain. You look at whathe's doing there in terms of production for
that program, and it's a teamRichmond with LSU that has very little defense.
That's part the problem is they justhave to keep going back to Jaden
Daniels sixteen to twenty four against TexasA and M three hundred and fifty five
total yards, no mistakes, nointerceptions, four touchdowns, and then bon
Nicks had like an eighty percent completepercentage game against Oregon State. So I'm

(01:07:01):
starting to think they're separating themselves fromthe pack. But what say you,
my friend, You know, Idefinitely think so. I do think it's
going to come down to bow Knicksand Jayden Daniels, And I know Michael
Pennix has had a great season theIndiana transfer there at Washington. But I
just think from a perspective what you'vebeen seeing, especially from bow Knicks,
having the Oregon Ducks right there juston the outside trying to get in there

(01:07:25):
to the College Football Playoff. Butthis is an interesting stat that I saw
a few days ago. So thiswas before the game for Jade Daniels today
against Texas A and M, andit was looking at comparison with Kyler Murray
when Kyler Murray won the Heighstman. So Kyler Murray had in twenty eighteen four
three hundred and sixty one passing yards, one thousand and one rushing yards,

(01:07:48):
and fifty four total tds in fourteengames. Well, Jayden Daniels before today's
game had four thousand, two hundredand twenty seven passing yards, one thousand,
one hundred and ninety eight rushing yards, and fifty five total touchdowns in

(01:08:08):
only thirteen games. So he hasoutpaced him in every category except the passing
yards, just in thirteen games versusfourteen games. So you have to have
Jayden Daniels on your Heisman list asa guy just based on the numbers that
you're putting up. Now you canquestion, well, how are we judging

(01:08:30):
the Heisman right now? What isthe exact criteria? Is it that you
have to be on a winning program? You got to quarterback? Apparently,
well just pretty much understood that foryears. We do know that, Yes,
that's unfortunate way, Yes, obviously, DeVante Smith there, the wide
receiver for Alabama was able to sneakin there, but that's just because there
was no dominant quarterback that season.Yeah, and so now, I mean,
I think you have to have JadanDaniels, if not number one,

(01:08:54):
one A and one B with BoNix based on just what they've been able
to be for their team right now, because if you take Jane Daniels off
that LSU team, I can tellyou they're not even close to what we
see them from a win loss perspective. And the same with Bo Nicks.
Yeah, for Oregon, same story. Alabama is on top of Auburn early
at the Iron Bowl seven nothing, not a shock there, but Auburn does

(01:09:16):
play this team well in this gamedown there at Jordan Harris, So if
they can hold tight until halftime, could be one of those miraculous finishes we've
seen over the years in the IronBowl. Arizona State on top of Arizona
right now seven to three. Jetfish'steam has been tremendous this season at Arizona,
but Arizona State has been very peskygets some good teams including Southern cal

(01:09:36):
Oklahoma State number twenty in the country. Six nothing lead over BYU. That's
in the first quarter right now,Fandy has tied at richmondths they have seven
and Oklahoma State in Mike Gundy. Here we go. If Oklahoma State,
do you realize with a win today, they play Texas for the Big Twelve

(01:09:58):
Championship. Don't blow somewhere right,Well, they'll probably they'll probably win today
against BYU at home to make itto the Big Twelve Championship, and then
Texas will beat them by thirty pointsin the Big Twelve Championship. So it
wanted to be competitive where we'd loveto see a rematch with Texas and Oklahoma
how great that game was earlier inthe season, and obviously having the opportunity

(01:10:21):
for Brent Vinnables to see if hecould win a Big Twelve championship, the
head coach for the Oklahoma Sooners. So it's all set for the conference championships
next week. Let me give youthe details on the second of December.
Week from today, eight pm onABC, Florida State against Louisville. You've
got the Big Ten Championship, sametime, same day on Fox. You've
got number seventeen Iowa. At leastright now, this is where they're ranked

(01:10:44):
ten and two against number three atthe moment in Michigan, just completing a
regular season sweep of all of theirgames without their head coach. At the
end of the season. You've gotthe American Athletic Championship Game coming up next
weekend, number twenty through two laneat hosting SMU in that one, and
then Georgia Alabama that's coming up fourpm next weekend on CBS for the SEC
crown to be determined at Texas that'scoming up next weekend in the Big twelve

(01:11:09):
Championship presented by Doctor Pepper. Andthis game Oregon Washington. Don't sleep on
Washington State. Now, Washington stillhas to pass one more test here in
terms of staying in that relevance inthe top four. But Oregon Washington will
mean so much Richmond and all ofthis in terms of not only the Heisman
Race with bo Nicks, but makingsure that one of these two teams,
if they're going to be in thisthing. It's a must win situation,

(01:11:30):
clearly, and I'm all for arematch between Oregon and Washington. Yeah,
and seeing how that plays out.We saw how crazy that game was there
in Washington, so you can expectsome fireworks in that game. And this
is what we're talking about, thatthere's still a lot of football that's going
to effect the college football playoffs. And yes, and I know we can

(01:11:51):
sit here and look at oh complainingthat Florida State's on the outside right now
and where things might match up.I'm telling you there's still a lot that
can happen. And obviously Alabama hasto get through this game against Auburn and
the Iron Bowl. But could Alabamastill be that team that could they create
some chaos? They can so,Yes, in the SEC Championship in Atlanta

(01:12:15):
against Georgia, could see it.It's Alabama. It's one of the Georgia
watch. It's one of those storylinesthat I've been thinking about for weeks.
On my Fox Sports Upstate show,I talk about it almost every week there
they lark Alabama with Nick Saban.Whether you believe it or not, they
should be in the top ten. They are. They're firmly entranced, and
they have an opportunity. They havea path, at least they think,
with all the chaos around them,to win out, including next week against

(01:12:38):
Georgia, and to get to thatplayoff. Picture of their games coming up
today. That means something number fourWashington hosting Washington State. That's four pm
kicking off in a few minutes hereon Fox. You'd imagine Michael Pennock Junior,
who throws the ball as well asany quarterback I've seen in a long
time, especially the deep ball, will get that game. But they've been
sloppy of lates to look out FloridaFlorida State tonight seven. Florida's got some

(01:13:00):
injuries, so does Florida State.Look I want to believe Florida State is
gonna mop them, you know, right out of the stadium here, but
it's down in the swamp and younever know rich when you get in a
hostile environment. It's a big momentfor Florida State. They got to take
care of business, no matter who'splaying quarterback. Rivalry games are different,
and we know that, but alsojust think from the aspect of some of

(01:13:20):
these games that are not rivalry games. Sports is unpredictable. Games do not
always go planned as scripted, orat least they don't go as you think
they should be based on the script. And that's the reality of it.
So this is easily a game thatFlorida could beat Florida State that there's no
question from that standpoint, you wouldthink so Number one Georgia tonight seven thirty

(01:13:43):
hosting are actually traveling to Atlanta againstGeorgia Tech. And look, I'm not
gonna say this is the one they'regonna lose. That we thought Missouri was
gonna be the game. We thoughtSouth Carolina earlier could beat Georgia. Georgia
Tech is a game opponent. Wedidn't see the best of them in Clemson,
but I would expect early on atleast Georgia Tix does some things with
Haines Kane to make it interesting.Although I do think Georgia at the end
of the day will have a significantlycomfortable win against Georgia Tech. You just

(01:14:08):
never know. Number eighteen Notre Damethe rivalry game, although it's kind of
one side here this year taking onStanford. That's at seven pm. If
you can find the PAC twelve network, good luck to you. You can
find it there wherever it might be. Clempson South Carolina another rankedupontment back Clempson
finally getting back in the rankings. It's good to see the games tonight.
More on that matchup in a minuteKansas State taken on Iowa State later.

(01:14:29):
And then you got in c Stateversus North Carolina. North Carolina out of
the top twenty five and See Statetwenty second, both at eight and three.
So again they're playing for a lotof pride there and a lot of
positioning as we get into the bowlseason. The Egg Bowl, we talked
about Old Miss big winners over MississippiState, So you got so many opportunities
here to jockey for position. Yougot Texas sitting right there number seven with
a fifty point win over Texas Tech. I get a lot of chaos lies

(01:14:54):
ahead here. But when we comeback, let's dive into the game you
want to know about game Cos Tigers. The one hundred and twentieth edition of
this fine game will break down someof the key matchups. What's it gonna
take for Clemson to get a holdof this game early and often and win
it comfortably, or can South Carolina, much like they did last year,
just hang around and get you inthe end. Much more on that as

(01:15:14):
we continue The Ingles Tailgate Show livefrom Beautiful Camperdown Placid, ninety two point
five WSC. This is the InglesTailgate Show on ninety two point five w
E SSE So glad to be withyou for another Clemson football Saturday. Happy

(01:15:48):
Thanksgiving weekend to all as we arebrought to you by our friends at Ingles
Markets, low prices, love theSavings. I'm John Lists Richmond Weaver.
It's the Ingles Tailgate Show, andrich has got the coffee. It is
cold out here yet I didn't knowif that song was float on or freeze
on. I don't know. Itis cold, there's no question. But

(01:16:09):
we are excited that we have collegefootball here today. So it is a
good day when you are able tocelebrate Thanksgiving and then have this weekend because
it doesn't feel like a Saturday nowdoes extended vacation whatever it might be.
But a lot of college football. And obviously we had the NFL on Thursday
with the Cowboys. The Cowboys fantasticand then the Black Friday NFL game.

(01:16:35):
Yeah, Amazon Prime that was alittle different experience. Well, it was
interesting because al Michael's one of thebest to do it ever. Has become
a bit of a walking meme forhis half awake calls during Prime video,
and you could hear during the courseof that game, Tim Boyle, who's
the backup quarterback to Zach Wilson who'sin that game, did something I'd never

(01:16:56):
seen in my life of all theseyears covering football, even for the Jets.
By the way, they throw ahand Mary before halftime, it gets
returned for a pick six. Howdo you ever get a pick six return
for a hill Mary? And Al'sabout half awake. I think the trip
to fan was sick again for him. A little too much turkey. As
we know how, Michael's self proclaimis not a fan of vegetables, so
that's right, yes, and heis a big a Tomahawk steak fan.
O. They brought it out tolooking at it like, okay, let's

(01:17:19):
do this anyway. Yeah. Alot of great football and a lot of
great Clemson Tigers in the NFL.We'll start highlighting that coming up later on
the network side of things with theEngles Tiger Tailgate Show, as Mark Childress
will host that. We'll be apart of that show as well. So
this matchup Clemson South Carolina, we'vealready talked about all the stuff that's happening
in the top twenty five. Ofcourse, Michigan gets out with a big

(01:17:39):
win against Ohio State. But thismatchup is interesting Richmond. You've got a
couple of teams right now. They'remuch different than they were last season in
terms of the complexion. This isk Club Knicks entry portal, if you
will, into this rivalry. Djuno longer a part of it, and
it was a tough game last yearfor dj ou Junglila and not to underscore
or to undermine what he's done thisyear at Oregon State. It's been a
great turn. But I think weknew at that point a quarterback change was

(01:18:02):
certainly on the horizon. Defensively, give South Carolina a lot of credit last
year and special teams with of coursePete Limbo doing a great job down there,
but that felt like a game thatClemson just kind of handed to him,
kind of gave them an opportunity tostay in it this year. You
look at the trenches. We talkedabout it earlier. They're at the bottom
of the SEC or whereabouts right nowin terms of pressures allowed. South Carolina

(01:18:27):
is Their offensive line has been arotating mess. There are near the bottom
of the conference in terms of tacklesfor losses. Their running game is inconsistent.
They do however, have this gentlemannamed Xavier loget that reminds me a
lot of a guy that used toplay there al Seon Jeffrey. Great catch
radius, great speed down the field. So my concern for Clemson would be
the way South Carolina can win thisgame. If the scramble drill gets going

(01:18:49):
for Spencer Rattler, who can throwthe ball deep as anybody, you can
get a few chances for a deepshot. I love the secondary for Clemson.
I'm not saying South Carolina has achance to win this game, but
if it's gonna happen for the gameCocks, special teams and big plays from
Xavier Loguette are the key to whatI think. Yeah, and I think
you're pronouncing his last name incorrect. It's legit because that's how good he is.

(01:19:14):
Yes, but yes, Xavier Legetteis one of the best, as
he's been named a ten one ofthe ten semi finalists for the Blitnikov Award.
Has sixty five catches for almost twelvehundred yards and seven tds on the
season, moving into second place onthe school's all time list for receiving yards.
And as you mentioned, that guyahead of him, Al Sean Jeffery

(01:19:34):
and one of the best that obviouslySouth Carolina has seen, and what a
really good pro he was also,So you look at it from a perspective
though, what's interesting is that Clemsonobviously wants to be able to run the
ball and South Carolina does not wantto be able to run the ball because
they don't have an effective running game. They average eighty eight yards per game

(01:19:57):
on the ground, where Clemson averagesone hundred and seventy seven yards on the
ground per game. So obviously theduo with film Offa and Will Shipley,
as much as they've been able toexploit that for the Clemson Tigers to past
few games South Carolina. As welistened to Will Vandervoard at the Clemson Insider
talk about how the strategy, thegame plan so to speak, for South

(01:20:20):
Carolina would want to be able toshut down the run game from Clemson and
force kid Clubnick to beat South Carolina. And obviously Caid has experienced now he's
no longer a sophomore, he's playedenough games now that he's he's been tested,
he's been in the fire, buthas he been tested on the road

(01:20:42):
like this in an environment seven pointthirty at night. Will he be the
game Cocks having the opportunity to haveBowl eligibility on the line with the victory
here today, So it'll be adifferent environment for Kate Clubnick obviously from that
standpoint. And so where will Clemsonlook to be able to Can they match
what South Carolina is trying to takeaway and be able to utilize film offa

(01:21:06):
and will Shipley and continue to gainyards on the ground, And can Kid
Clubnick do just enough to keep thedefense in check and maybe take some shots
downfield. Now, the reports arethat Bo Collins is not going to be
playing in this game, so thatobviously limits some of the weapons there for
Kid Clubnick. But it's going tobe interesting just to see what South Carolina

(01:21:29):
wants to take away and can Clemsonbe able to force them where they can't
take that away? Yeah, Ithink field positioned is huge in this game.
With Kyle Kroger one of the bestpunters in football, Clemson special teams
has improved week after week. Wesee Jonathan Whites has been much more steady
since the beginning of the season, where Clemson didn't feel like they could make

(01:21:50):
anything even an extra point, andnow they're having more success in that department.
And I think you look back atthe matchup here that just stands out
to me so much. Is thiscorner for Clemson that has had ups and
downs, and the turning port mighthave been that Wake Forest overtime moment last
year. Nate Wiggins now matched upagainst Xavier Legette as you call him,
legit, it gives us an opportunity, really did, to see one of

(01:22:12):
the great matchups. If they manup and go, you know, let
them travel with Lagette throughout this game. They've got other weapons, but again
that's the guy you key on.He's got that six foot three catch radius.
A big body can box you out. But it's just the running game
for Clemson. Maximize your running opportunities. Here go fifty rushing attempts again against
this team, like he did lastweek against North Carolina. If the game

(01:22:33):
dictates it. One thing. SouthCarolina's defense has done a pretty good job
of deflecting balls at the line ofscrimmage fifty three of them this year.
So with Clubnik he's not a sixfoot five. Guys can occasionally get that
from him. But for Kaye, just settle in the pocket and if You're
obviously the dirt raid artist there.Garrett Riley run the ball. They can't
stop it if they can't stop it. And you look at some of the

(01:22:54):
stats. As much as South Carolinawants to slow down running games against South
Carolina have rushed four hundred and sixteentimes against the South Carolina game Cocks,
where Clemson three hundred and forty ninerushing attempts for opponents against Clemson. So
you can see that Clemson has beenable to stop that run. And so

(01:23:15):
you look at it from her perspectiveas far as what Clemson is able to
do. Not only will they beable to stop the run, because South
Carolina really doesn't have that capability. So can they get enough pressure on Spencer
Rattler? And as much as wetalk about the front four and obviously then
you can even talk about the frontseven there and you throw in Jeremiah Trotter

(01:23:36):
and also Barrett Carter there at thelinebacker spot. But as you know,
John, you give any quarterback throughfour seconds, and especially a guy like
Spencer Rattler who is completing seventy percentof his passes, he can pick you
apart. But what's different for Clemsonthis year is that secondary. So the

(01:23:57):
secondary is helping that front four outjust as much as the front four is
helping the secondary out because guys canstay connected in that secondary for those three
seconds, and that gives that frontfour just another second to get after Spencer
Ratler. So it's an instant interestingdynamic how both of them are really helping
each other out this football season.I think Clemson's catching South Carolina at a

(01:24:21):
better time for themselves this year.Last year, things are reeling a little
bit. The bad loss to NotreDame or special teams. Defense fell apart.
Clubnick was not great in that game, and DJU. Of course Clubnick
came back in the AEC Championship hada great game. But you talk about
DJU in that game, not Clubnick. I should say the team in general
was falling apart a bit. Thisseems relative to expectations and a lot of

(01:24:43):
things in the secondary were trying tobe figured out. It seems like what
serves them well here to me,and you never know in college football,
especially on the road and a rivalgame. The FACTUS defense over the past
three weeks has been as good asany in the country. I think it's
peaking at the right time. I'dbe shocked if they regress, but don't
give so beat a passing lanes andbe disciplined with the passer rush, you'll
be okay. But slowing Sam Hartmandown, slowing Haines Keen down, and

(01:25:06):
then slowing Drake Main Dow Drake Maydown, that's three quarterbacks that they've been
able to slow down. And soif you can do that, just continue
that same type of formula there.I think this is an opportunity where Clemson
can take away South Carolina's the biggeststrength. And unfortunately, we talk about
teams having balance, and it's notso much balancing that you have to run

(01:25:28):
fifty running plays versus you know, fifty percent rushing versus fifty percent passing.
It's can you be a balanced team. So if one team is able to
take away something of yours, thatyou have the ability to use the other.
And South Carolina just doesn't have.If you take away Spencer Rattler,
I just don't think South Carolina hasa true rushing attack that they can counterbalance

(01:25:49):
Clemson's defense. A lot of excitementfor this game, of course, I
know fans are excited. We're excitedkickoff coming up just after seven thirty PM,
and you can hear it on theClemson Athletic Network. Months in Tim
Burray and Reggie Meriweather. We're oneof the fine affiliates there ninety two point
five WSC, So lock into usall day long. We come back,
we wrap up with final thoughts, give you some scoreboard updates, and head

(01:26:11):
on out of here and get youready for network coverage right here on ninety
two point five WSC. This isthe Ingles Tailgate Show on ninety two point
five w e SC. Now Hereare your hosts, John Ellis and Richmond
Weaver, come down the home stretchLife from Kevin Dan Plaza. It is

(01:26:45):
the Ingles Tailgate Show, live ona chilly day, but it doesn't deter
this crowd from being here. We'vegot folks all throughout this beautiful plaza getting
ready for a big time day incollege football that's already underway. Scores upcoming
here for you and the big one, the mean event tonight, Clemson Carolina,
kicking off just after seven to thirtypm. You can hear it on
the Clemson Athletic Network in right hereon ninety two point five WSC. Richmond

(01:27:09):
we already talked about some of thefinal scores that we've already covered, Michigan
getting a big win over Ohio State, to say the least. In the
big Game, LSU holds off TexasA and M forty two to thirty.
Now Texas same attention. It turnsto their bank account and whom do they
throw the money to? Is itMike Elco, is it Brian Day.
We're gonna find out pretty soon ina bit of a stunner. Although coach

(01:27:31):
Stoops never count them out. I'msure John Col's a little upset today.
This is not a football school.It's a basketball school. Today's a football
school. Kentucky beats Louisville on theroad in state rovert number ten. Louisville
man look great season so far,but that's just a hiccup. You don't
want it, will yes, exactly, it's not. Now. Obviously you
can kind of somewhat get back ontrack if you can beat Florida State in

(01:27:54):
the ACC Championship game. And obviouslythat would be a big moment for Jeff
Brahm there for the lou Cardinals tohoist that ACC Championship trophy by beating Florida
State. But that is a toughloss to Kentucky again, just for whatever
reason right now, Kentucky just ownsLouisville that the Louisville just has not had

(01:28:15):
much success there against the Wildcats, and so obviously a tough one there.
And another score that I do haveto mention just because it's Mike Gundy and
Oklahoma State byu is up seven tosix in this game. Rich coming to
choices is a long time skeptic ofMike Gundy and his flowing mullet. The
madness continues in the scoring. Todaywe talked about the iron ball and all

(01:28:40):
it entails. Auburn has a wayin Jordan Hare Stadium staying close and interesting
in the first quarter of these games. Historically, they're four and four in
their last eight at home against Alabama. And here we are Richmond nearing the
end of the first quarter with Alabamadriving. Auburn has tied the game now
seven to seven. Although the quarterbackPeyton Thrown has yet to complete a pass
in this game, They've rushed eighttimes for seventy four yards against Bama's defense.

(01:29:03):
This is an Auburn team that lastweek they lost to New Mexico State,
thirty one to ten, and theywere a twenty six and a half
point favorite in that game. Soobviously an embarrassing loss for the Auburn Tigers,
but it doesn't matter. You goand win this game in the Iron
Bowl against Alabama, of all thatthey would forget about the rest of the
season because this is the one gamethat they care about. How many times

(01:29:26):
have we seen it with this rivalry, you think Auburn's you just got no
opportunity to even stay close, andthey're usually especially get home right there in
the mix. Tennessee back on topof Andy fourteen to seven. That game
is at Rocky Top, nearing theend of the first quarter, Liberties on
top of U Tip twenty one toseven, Arizona on top of Arizona State
by ten, that's nearing the middleof the second quarter. You mentioned your

(01:29:46):
good friend Mike Gundy losing to BYUright now. They've had an up and
down season. Washington Washington State justkicking off. It's scoreless right now,
they're already five minutes into this game, and Washington State does have the ball
right now. So we'll see ifthis Washington State team at five and six
looking to go bowling. They gota lot to play for too, against
an eleven to zero Washington team withone of the best quarterbacks on the planet

(01:30:10):
right now in Michael pennockx junior, and you know, in an interesting game
is also later tonight on the ACCNetwork, in C State hosting the North
Carolina Tar Hills. Obviously North Carolinalosing to Clemson last weekend, but it's
interesting you talk about John Calipari andMark Stoops and is Kentucky at basketball school
or not? Well, it seemsever since Steve Smith said something about in

(01:30:30):
C State that INC State was abasketball school and Dave Dorin took exception to
that, n C State has actuallybeen playing fairly well, and so this
is an opportunity where I think nC State's got a real shot at winning
this game against North Carolina. Alot to sort out here for the College
Football Playoff Committee. They've got acouple more weeks to do so. But

(01:30:50):
the more upsets you see, andI got a feeling you're going to see
a couple of these over the nextcouple of weeks, including the games that
remained to it's fun to shake thingsup. But the big win for Michigan
as they move on, and ofcourse we'll have to see how the rest
of it falls into line. Finalthoughts on this game, Rich, we
talked about some of the important factors. Of course, running the ball.

(01:31:12):
Stopping to run for South Carolina wouldbe nice. They're not really equipped to
do that. They haven't been allseason. It's gonna be interesting to watch.
Kate Klubnick, you mentioned earlier theemotional component in this game going down
to Willie b I look for himto settle in early, get some easy
pass concepts and just feed the ballto Shipley, MafA, Brent Steel should
have a nice day against that middleportion of the secondary. I think Clemson

(01:31:33):
wins the game. But again,in robery games, how you start it's
so important. Yeah. I thinkat the end of the day, Clemson
just has too much depth, especiallyon the defensive side, that they'll be
able to slow South Carolina down enoughand Cad and the Boys and I mean
the Boys, film offa and willShipley will do just enough for the Tigers
to get the victory. Well,it's been a fun time as always the

(01:31:54):
season finale. On the regular seasonside, we got, of course some
Bowl action coming up, and itwas great to hear from Melissa Level,
who stopped by announcing that we aregoing to do another year of this show
coming up next year. We can'twait for our guest Will Vandervoord from Melissa
Level from Ingles for our producer TreyFalco back in studio. I'm John Ellis.
This has been the Ingles Tailgate Show. Along with my friend Richard Weaver,

(01:32:14):
we got much more coming. Staytuned here in ninety two point five
WSC all day long for all yourClemson Tigers action. See you next week
