(00:11):
I don't know what the fuck is going on here, but something is
not right. Something is definitely up here.
Oh shit, there was a fucking submarine off the eastern coast.
I couldn't tell who it was, so Istayed back.
I just got a video of them from the jungle.
(00:34):
It looked like there were three of them, maybe more, though I I
think others stayed back on the coastline from what I could
tell. I only opened a hatch in the
ground man, but there's a hatch here in the jungle that goes
underground and. What is this place?
What does that go to? I don't know what is happening,
(00:58):
this place isn't on any maps andthis fucking sub shows up.
Dudes in uniforms and an underground hatch.
Seriously, what the fuck is thisplace?
My phone is about to die. Stupid solar charger's not
getting any juice from the sun. It's not working.
(01:20):
So I have about 7% battery left.OK, the Hatch is located
northeast. There's a rock formation just to
the southwest of it about 50-60 yards away, and there's a bunch
of lemon trees around it, aroundthe Hatch.
You can't miss it, but but it's deep in.
(01:41):
OK, You have to look. The best way to get there is
entering from the east point on the beach.
OK, there's a tree on the Cliff. That's a good indicator.
It looks like a pretzel. The trunk is all twisted up.
Look for that. It's it's big.
It's easy to see from the shoreline.
That's a good place to walk in from.
Travel then West into the jungleabout 200 yards and break
(02:05):
directly north about another 100yards or so.
That's where the lemon Grove is.And the Hatch.
I'm going there tomorrow. Previously on the island in the
(02:48):
Pacific, I'll. Be heading West back the same
way I started yesterday, passingthe statue site and continuing
clockwise around the outer perimeter of the island.
Jeremy, I'm. Seeing some colored items up in
the Bluffs there, like another camp maybe?
Yeah. I mean, that looks like, that
looks like something I'm making my way up there to see if that's
(03:10):
Jeremy's camp. Matthew.
Sadie, I think I found the campsite that Jeremy is using
and and some of his items I I just haven't found him yet.
That's good to write. Like what?
What did you find? I'm going to try and and charge
his phone with my charger and see if I can get into his phone
and just look for anything that might give me an idea of what's
(03:32):
going on please. Matthew, find him.
Doing everything I possibly. Can I've made my way?
Back over to. Jeremy's camp After grabbing all
of my gear from the original campsite, the sun has just set
and there's still no sign of Jeremy.
I can only hope that he comes back here to his camp and we can
go home together. It's such a relief when you
call. I'm still here, just kind of
(03:55):
really crazy, Kath. I'm assuming Jeremy didn't
return to camp. Unfortunately, no.
I got into Jeremy's phone. Really, is this?
Is there anything of relevance? You could say that there's a
video. It's kind of crazy, Kath.
What happened? Jeremy recorded people on the
island. What?
(04:16):
He was recording these guys likethree men, it looks like from a
distance. There are.
People. There it looks like it.
And he sounded afraid of these people.
Well, something spooked them. Traveled then W into the jungle
about 200 yards, then break directly north about another 100
yards or so. That's where the lemon Grove is.
(04:38):
And the Hatch. Jeremy's alive on this island.
He may be down in that hatch. Did you get those coordinates he
laid out for the Hatch? Yeah, write them down.
That's where I'm going. My name is Kathleen Goldstein.
(05:08):
I'm an investigative journalist, and this is The Island and the
Pacific Episode 8, the Hatch. That was Jeremy Wilson recording
video on his phone describing that he witnessed at least three
men entering an underground hatch just off in the distance
(05:29):
from where he was standing as hehid from them in the jungle and
out of sight from an apparent submarine off the eastern
coastline. His phone apparently ran out of
power shortly after that. That is the last thing we heard
from Jeremy. What we do know is that Jeremy
had to have made it back to his camp on the southern side of the
(05:52):
island. That's where Matthew found his
phone amongst some of his other belongings like his backpack,
solar charger, even some uneatenfood like protein bars and
dehydrated packets. I've had my own concerns about
Jeremy when Matthew told me thatparticular fact about the
uneaten food and Jeremy's backpack.
(06:14):
Matthew begins to analyze all ofthis in his next recording.
He prepares his next steps. August 22nd, 2024.
Just spoke with Kathleen via satellite phone regarding
(06:35):
Jeremy's video recordings that he had on his phone.
Just trying to process all this and what to do next.
As I'm scrolling through Jeremy's phone, there are a few
(06:56):
more photos of what looks like trees, just some dense jungle,
maybe the lemon Grove from a bitof a distance.
I don't know. The shots kind of blurry, just
can't really tell what he was trying to take a photo of, at
least from the perspective of the photo, it seems.
I don't know, just kind of dark in there.
(07:21):
But yeah, that's pretty much thelast thing Jeremy recorded was
that video when he got back hereto base camp, describing what he
saw out there. Those men, the submarine, the
Hatch. I don't know where this place
(07:47):
is, but it's definitely not justan island.
And now I have to truly questionmy own safety here.
Who are those men Jeremy saw? Where are they from?
And if Jeremy really saw a submarine off the coast, then
(08:08):
what the fuck is that all about? You'd think that would have some
affiliation with some countries military, but also it wouldn't
have to be. I know there's a history of
criminal organizations buying old decommissioned Subs, so
that's still a big question markfor me.
(08:30):
But if Jeremy said the men he saw were wearing uniforms, then
I'd have to lean toward militaryor at least government of some
kind. Who's is the question?
Matthew is right. Who would have a submarine?
My thoughts immediately go to a country's involvement, but I
(08:52):
wouldn't rule out the cartel or another criminal enterprise
altogether. And what would they be doing
here? Why would they have some hatch
that apparently goes undergroundon an unmapped island in the
middle of the Pacific Ocean? Matthew should be concerned
about his safety, in my opinion. And with only one more day left
(09:14):
before Birdman, the Mexican pilot, comes back to pick him
up, Matthew needs to be extra careful.
All of this doesn't sit right with me.
Jeremy's food, the sub, the uniformed people, the Hatch,
it's all shouting at me like badnews.
But I don't think Matthew will allow himself to have come this
(09:36):
far and not investigate what thehell is going on here on this
mysterious tropical island. I get another call from Matthew
ringing me from a satellite phone.
Hey. Hey, can you hear me OK?
Yeah. It's clean, it sounds good.
OK, listen, I'm just, I'm sitting here just stewing in all
(10:01):
of this. I I just don't think it hit me
at first how crazy all of it is and it's just finally setting
in. Matthew, this is nuts.
I'm concerned for you. I just, I just have to say that.
I know, I know. Thank you.
I'm. Just I'm just trying to figure
out what to do. I think you already know what
you're going to do. That's what I'm afraid of.
(10:22):
You think it's a bad idea? Yeah, I think it's dangerous and
you'll be putting yourself at risk, and I mean the most
extreme kind of risk. I don't say it, but I want to
tell Matthew that I don't want this to be our last
conversation. I'm extremely concerned and I
(10:43):
don't want to lose him. What the hell do you honestly
think all of this is? I mean there's an underground
hatch on a mystery island that people are coming to by
submarine. Like this is literally something
out of ATV show. OK, let's just go over the
possibilities. OK.
(11:04):
OK, on the surface, it seems like someone or some government
or some organization is hiding something, right?
Yeah. I mean, the whole thing with
this place not being on any mapsgives that away.
Mm. Hmm.
But to be able to do that makes me think this is big.
Like real big big. This has to have some
(11:26):
coordinated power structure to it.
I just don't think some small time criminal organization who
bought a decommissioned suffering off eBay makes sense
when you think about it. No, no.
Exactly right. It doesn't make sense and
question becomes what is down inthat hatch.
Right. And is Jeremy down there being
(11:46):
held against his will? I mean, those guys he saw, did
he get caught up with them beinghere in a place he wasn't
supposed to be, seeing somethinghe wasn't supposed to see?
If I don't go looking for him, Iwon't be able to live with
myself. I get it, Matthew is right, he's
(12:09):
come all this way, maybe stumbled upon one of the
greatest cover ups in human history.
Whatever this is, to not attemptto find Jeremy or investigate
what's going on here would be, well, gut wrenching.
For him, For me, for Sadie, for Jeremy.
(12:31):
I know Maddie wouldn't be able to live with himself if he just
left the island without doing anything else, even if that
means putting his life in danger.
What the hell can be done in that hatch?
I honestly have no idea. Maybe a massive drug operation
(12:54):
or something military because ofthe uniforms.
Yeah. Thinking of some of the worst
things you would want to hide from the public, I immediately
think of either experimentationsof some kind or a bio lab of
some sort. Maybe making, I don't know, some
sort of chemical weapon? Yeah.
(13:17):
That makes sense when you put something like that out here on
an island away from the public in case something goes horribly
wrong. Yeah, could be.
OK. I know you're getting picked up
tomorrow by the Mexican. Do not miss that rendezvous,
please, Matthew. I don't plan on it and I'll
hopefully have Jeremy in tow when the Mexican gets here.
(13:41):
And here's another thing. Yeah.
Do you remember that storm I told you about?
Uh huh. It's happening.
It's going to hit tomorrow night, so if you don't get on
that plane in time, you could get stuck there.
Shit, all right. Understood.
Thanks. Yeah.
Listen, I'm worried once I'm in the jungle I won't be able to
(14:02):
get a signal out for my satellite phone, so I may be
flying blind with calms. The jungle looks pretty dense in
that area too from looking to Jeremy's photos and videos.
Do you have anything to protect yourself with?
If you mean heavy artillery, then no, just a small knife and
intuition. Please be careful.
(14:26):
I will. Maddie, Maddie.
Hello, Kath, can you hear me? Hey.
Hey. You got this.
Good luck. I'll call you when I get back to
base camp tonight. Talk to you then.
(14:51):
The scenario of the island has been consuming me.
My time, my sleep, my marriage, even my own work.
All of it has been stressful, tosay the least.
My worry for Jeremy and for Matthew has only grown since the
beginning of this investigation.Whatever Jeremy Wilson stumbled
(15:12):
upon back in July of 2024 may have started a chain of events
that will change the world forever.
I truly believe something big ishappening out there in the
Pacific Ocean, I just don't knowwhat yet.
(15:33):
Matthew readies himself for his next steps, prepping for his
journey into the jungle to find the Hatch and whatever may be
inside of it, underground, underneath the surface of
everything. Currently heading north on the
(16:09):
eastern side of the island. I'm looking for this so-called
pretzel tree that Jeremy described, he said.
It's up on a Cliff and easy to see from the shoreline.
The only thing I want to be careful about is staying too far
out in the open just in case there are other people here.
(16:39):
I need to keep a low profile. For now, I'll try and hug the
jungle line as tight as I can while still being able to see up
some of these bluff ridges. The cliffsides aren't too tall
(17:01):
here, maybe 4050 feet high in some areas.
Most of the geography slants upwards so you can make your way
into the jungle without climbingmuch.
Once I find this pretzel tree, Ineed to walk about 200 yards in
(17:22):
directly W from that point. It's going to be tough to gauge
that distance in the jungle and could take some time.
Just couldn't count my steps I guess.
Then 100 yards north from that point I should find this lemon
(17:42):
Grove that Jeremy said you can'tmiss.
That's where the Hatch is located.
If there's any point where I should turn back if I wanted to
save myself from all the unknowns this mystery, I'd say
(18:05):
now is probably a pretty good time.
As Matthew was trekking his way to the Hatch location, I was
keeping an eye on that weather pattern, going straight for the
island. I told Matthew that the storm
was supposed to arrive tomorrow night, but after looking at the
(18:27):
updated time maps, it may get there sooner, closer to his
rendezvous time, currently set for 12:00 PM island time.
This storm is big and it could last a few days.
Matthew has got to make it back to his rendezvous point, or else
he may be facing a very bad situation if he gets stuck.
(18:49):
And of course, Birdman, the Mexican pilot, better show up or
we have a major problem on our hands.
All of this is becoming more andmore of a mystery from the
erasing of this island on all digital map platforms, seemingly
all geography books. The man made statue structures
(19:11):
on the western shores, a submarine, uniformed men, and
now what looks to be an underground hatch.
It's all out of some dystopian novel.
None of it makes any sense. And on top of all this, most
importantly, we still have a missing person on our hands.
With Jeremy Wilson, we can assume that Jeremy is somewhere
(19:36):
on that island. The question now becomes, can
Matthew find him, God willing, alive?
Or did Jeremy stumble into something, some nefarious
situation that he wasn't able toget himself out of?
(19:57):
Here is more audio of Matthew onhis way to find the Hatch.
All right. This way, all right, I think
this way it's it's thick in here.
(20:28):
I'm having to pretty much I'm having to pretty much carve my
own path. Occasionally it opens up a bit
and I can make my own trail, butI'm definitely coming up against
Mother Nature herself in here. I found the so-called pretzel
tree on the Eastern Shoreline Bluffs.
(20:52):
Jeremy was right, you couldn't miss the thing about 30 feet
high or so. It's trunks just all twisted up.
I've been heading into the jungle directly W from the point
of the pretzel tree, as Jeremy instructed.
(21:14):
I'd say I've gone about 100 yards or so about halfway to the
turn. It's taking longer than I had
hoped. Matthew trudges on making
another recording update shortlyafter the one you just heard
(21:35):
all. Right.
I'm currently standing near a rock formation just like Jeremy
described would be about 50 yards or so southwest of the
lemon Grove. After getting about 200 yards
into the jungle from the pretzeltree, I angled northwest for
(21:55):
about 50 yards to see if I couldlocate what he was talking
about. And it's here the rock
formations almost looks like a foundation of an ancient
structure or something. Not very high.
Stones stacked on top of one another.
(22:16):
Maybe 4 feet high at the most insome areas.
Definitely man made. This doesn't occur in nature.
No way. I'd say it covers about 1000
square feet or so, about the size of a moderate home.
Patterns aren't all straight, some of them curve in a circular
(22:37):
way. It's it's weird.
I haven't seen anything like this really, except maybe on
some TV show that finds ancient archaeological structures that
are thousands of years old. I'm going to document this site,
grab some photos and video. It's pretty quiet here, no sign
(23:02):
of other people, no noise, but Iwant to be extra careful as I
move closer to the lemon Grove where this hatch is apparently
located. It sounds crazy, but I need to
(23:24):
be aware of traps. Man made traps in the jungle.
I'm getting close to a top secret bunker of some kind, and
I can imagine it would be protected in some fashion.
I just need to go slow from hereand I I need to be looking out
for any more signs of Jeremy, anything that might lead me to
(23:48):
him. And I don't know if it's the
ocean air or the jungle or what, but ever since I got to these
stones, I don't know. I feel good refreshed.
It's almost like there's an energy in the air.
Woo woo. I know that sounds all hocus
pocus, but I've been hiking through thick jungle and uneven
(24:10):
terrain. Once I got here it's like my
exhaustion completely went away.It's weird.
Maybe I just needed that proteinbar.
I want to take a minute to talk about what Matthew has come
across this stone formation, what seems to possibly be some
(24:32):
ancient structure, maybe thousands of years old.
Many structures similar to what Matthew has described have been
discovered around many parts of the world over the last 40-50
years or so. One recent discovery led by the
use of LIDAR, a ground penetrating radar that can help
us locate buried civilizations, was able to help archaeologists
(24:56):
map out an ancient city located in the Amazon rainforest in the
lush region of Ecuador. Many scientists have dated this
structure to be about 2500 yearsold.
It was eventually consumed by the forest after its population
either left the area or perhaps died off from disease or a
(25:20):
cataclysmic event. Listening to Matthew describe
the stone formations he found inthe jungle makes me think that
it could be one of these places,an ancient temple or simply a
home used by our ancestors. And that would mean people once
inhabited this secret island faraway from almost all other
(25:42):
civilizations. Think about the statues located
on the western shoreline Bluffs of the island that Matthew also
discovered. Maybe the 2GO together.
Maybe those statues were a beacon, like a lighthouse for
its people traveling by sea. Maybe the history of this place
goes back way further than we realize.
(26:05):
Maybe there's so much more to the story of the island.
One thing we know for sure is that Matthew is going to try and
find out as much as he can whilehe still has time.
His next recording, well, opens up a whole new mystery.
(26:37):
All right, I'm bringing my audiorecorder to the strap in my
backpack so I don't need to holdit.
Hopefully it doesn't brush up against too much stuff and cause
distortion. I just, I just need to be able
to use both my hands. I also need to be more quiet as
I approach the lemon Grove in case there is anyone nearby.
I have to be discreet, so I'll be lowering my voice.
(27:03):
So far, I haven't seen any othersigns of Jeremy.
It's just straight up jungle through here.
Thick ass jungle. I have to be getting close to
this lemon Grove. I've moved about, I don't know,
40 yards northeast from the rockformations.
(27:29):
I actually think I see a bit of an opening ahead.
I think, OK, I think. Yeah.
(27:50):
Wow, there it is. I'm coming to a bit of an
opening. I can see lemon trees.
Jeremy was spot on with his directions.
Spot on. I'm going to get a little closer
and check if I'm safe to move forward into the Grove.
(28:34):
I'm currently standing at the edge of a tree and Bush line.
It's it's pretty quiet here. I see about maybe 10 or 12 lemon
trees. Everything is cleared out.
(28:55):
The lemon trees basically stand alone in the jungle.
The ground has cut down to dirt around them.
This is definitely weird. I'm seeing no signs of anyone.
I just tried my satellite phone to reach Cath and I cannot get
any service inside this canopy. So that's a thing.
(29:18):
All right, I'm going to move in.I can see something metal on the
(29:38):
ground in between all of the lemon trees.
I'm walking towards it. Now I'm standing inside the
(30:07):
lemon Grove. There is a metal hatch in the
ground right in front of me. I'm standing over it.
It's circular flat with the ground like it's buried in the
dirt and it has a wheel lock or release it looks like in a large
(30:29):
lever. What the hell is this?
OK, I'm going to try and open it.
(31:02):
Got it. OK, the Hatch opened.
I'm looking down a shaft with metal step rings.
I'm going to climb down. Music contributors are listed in
