(00:18):
Now I'm standing inside the lemon Grove.
There is a metal hatch in the ground right in front of me.
I'm standing over it. It's circular flat with the
ground like it's buried in the dirt and it has a wheel lock or
(00:38):
release it looks like in a largelever.
The hell is this? OK, I'm going to try and open
it. God.
(01:24):
OK, the Hatch opened. I'm looking down a shaft with
metal step rings. I'm going to climb down.
(01:49):
Previously on the island in the Pacific.
August 22nd, 2024. Just trying to process all this
and what to do next. That's pretty much the last
thing Jeremy recorded was that video describing what he saw up
there. There's men, submarine, the
Hatch. I don't know where this place
is, but it's definitely not justan island.
(02:12):
And now I have to truly questionmy own safety here.
You think it's a bad idea? Yeah, I think it's dangerous and
you'll be putting yourself at risk.
What is down in that hatch? And is Jeremy down there?
This has to have some coordinated power structure to
it. And here's another thing.
Do you remember that storm I told you about?
Uh huh. It's happening.
(02:33):
It's going to hit tomorrow night.
So if you don't get on that plane in time, you could get
stuck there. If I don't go looking for him, I
won't be able to live with myself.
I'm currently standing near a rock formation just like Jeremy
described after getting about 200 yards into the jungle from
the pretzel tree and it's here. The rock formations almost looks
like a foundation of an ancient structure or something.
(02:56):
Definitely man made. I have to be getting close to
this lemon Grove. I've moved about 40 yards
northeast from the rock formations.
Think I see a bit of an opening ahead.
Wow, there it is. I'm going to get a little closer
and check if I'm safe to move forward into the Grove.
There is a metal hatch in the ground right in front of me.
(03:24):
OK, the Hatch opened. I'm looking down a shaft with
metal step rings. I'm going to climb down.
(03:46):
My name is Kathleen Goldstein. I'm an investigative journalist,
and this is the Island in the Pacific Episode 9.
Strange things are happening here.
In his search for the missing Jeremy Wilson, a Navy pilot who
has been missing for 40 days, independent journalist Matthew
(04:09):
Hinges has discovered one of themost unusual and mysterious
places on Earth. An island on no maps.
A hatch in the middle of its jungle.
A ladder leading underground. This has been one of the most
perplexing missing persons casesthat I have ever witnessed.
(04:31):
No, it is the most perplexing, and my friend Matthew is right
in the middle of it. Matthew has come to a fork in
the road by finding the Hatch that Jeremy described.
He now has to make the decision whether to climb down it and
search not only for Jeremy, but blindly discover what lies
(04:55):
beneath his feet, underneath thesurface of the island.
It may sound like an easy decision.
Go down, rescue Jeremy, get him back to base camp, take off on
the rescue plane tomorrow, save the day.
But Matthew has to also be extremely careful here.
His own life could be on the line.
(05:17):
Jeremy spoke of men in uniform and an actual submarine that he
had witnessed off the coastline during his last recording on his
phone. Who are those people and what
are they doing here? What if Matthew becomes the next
missing person? But knowing Matthew, knowing his
(05:38):
commitment to everything that hedoes in his life, I doubt there
is much of A choice in the matter.
(06:06):
Remember that storm that is going to hit the island
tomorrow? It was just upgraded to a
tropical cyclone. With the first wave of the storm
due to hit the island close to 12:30 or 1:00 PM island time,
that only gives Matthew 30 minutes to maybe an hour to get
to the seaplane and get out of the area.
(06:27):
The storm will be traveling fromWest to east, so the plane
should have a clear path after takeoff to get back to Mexico.
This is just another reason Matthew cannot afford to run
into any trouble down in that hatch.
As he mentioned in the last episode, Matthew has fixed his
(06:48):
recording device to his backpackshoulder strap, which will allow
him to record everything he's doing as he moves along.
He has been recording since his arrival at the lemon Grove in
the jungle where the Hatch is located, which is what will
allow us to hear everything thathappens next.
What you are about to hear is continuous audio from Matthew's
(07:11):
recording device. I am going to play that audio
recording in full, uninterrupted, allowing you to
hear what Matthew is about to discover in real time.
There may be some pauses in his speech throughout as he
documents what he sees, but I didn't want to cut the recording
into segments. I think it's important to hear
(07:36):
everything that is about to happen.
There may be some moments that the audio is unclear or hard to
hear. In that case, I will review it
with you later for clarity. I can't tell how far down the
(08:04):
step rings go, it's pretty dark.Uh, I'm going to shine my
flashlight down the Hatch to seeif I can get a better
understanding of what the hell I'm dropping down into.
Alright, looks like there's a floor about 20-25, maybe 30 feet
(08:25):
down. All right, I'm going to head
down now. None.
(09:15):
I'm just taking this slow since it's kind of dark.
Oh, the lights just kicked on down here.
It's an electronic system that probably senses movement.
Yeah, the whole vertical entrance tube is lit all the way
down to the bottom. I can see all the way down now.
(09:35):
It's a series of lights from topto bottom are installed into the
walls. It looks looks actually somewhat
modern in here. I'm going to keep climbing down.
(10:32):
OK. All right, I've reached the
bottom floor is made out of concrete.
I'd say I'm about, Yeah, 30 feet, 30 feet down.
(11:00):
I'm staring at a short hallway and there's a door.
There's a door in front of me. It's closed, all right.
I'm going to walk towards it. There's a camera above the door.
(11:33):
I can only assume I've been seen.
The door just opened in front ofme automatically, like a
supermarket door sliding into the wall.
I'm staring down a dimly lit hallway.
(11:54):
It looks somewhat long. I'll continue forward through
the open door here. OK, more lights just kicked on
(12:42):
all the way down the hall. Automatic sensors.
OK, there are small offices to my left and right, and no one's
in them. Looks like they're set up just
(13:07):
like any office building. A desk and a chair, computer,
some filing cabinets, three offices on each side of the
hall. The hallway goes straight down
to another door about 30-40 feetaway.
(13:30):
Before that, though, it looks like there's another hallway
that goes to the left before youget to that door.
All right, I'm going to check out a couple of these offices
and see what's in here. All right, the computer seems to
(14:17):
be password protected. There's a login screen like
username and password setup. Yeah, there are several folders
on the desk. Bunch of papers inside each one.
(15:01):
Whoa. What the hell?
What the fuck? What the hell is this?
(15:36):
I'm just grabbing some photos and video of not only this
space, but papers in these folders.
(15:57):
Wow. OK, there are names on here and
what? Wow, very recognizable names.
What the fuck is this? OK.
(16:52):
I think someone's in the whole way.
Shit, you're not supposed to be.Fuck come.
Out. We know you are in here.
Come out. Fuck.
Come. Out there.
(17:28):
Who are you? What is this place?
I'm the one asking the questions.
Who are you? How did you find this place?
What are you doing here? Are you alone?
(17:55):
What the fuck is this place? Who are you?
It doesn't seem like we will be answering each other's
questions. You see those cameras above you,
behind you? They are coming now.
(18:20):
They will find you. They will comb every inch of
this island until they have you.Do you understand that?
Where's Jeremy? Boom.
Jeremy Wilson, do you have them?Oh, was that his real name?
You know him. You know who I'm talking about
(18:41):
then. Maybe.
What did you do with him? Is he down here?
Is he let him go? That man you came looking for is
no longer here. What do you mean?
(19:05):
What do? You mean?
Let's just say he has become onewith the island.
No, no, no, no, no he shouldn't.Have been snooping around like
you are. No, you have.
No idea what you have gotten yourself involved with.
(19:29):
I'm sorry. Stay right there.
Where are you? Going to run to You're on an
(19:53):
island. Oh my.
God, what's that?
(20:25):
Oh my God. Join us next time for the season
(21:16):
finale of The Island in the Pacific.
